On Sunday, April 2, the 107 th edition of the Tour of Flanders, also known as Ronde van Vlaanderen in Dutch, will get under way in Brugge, Flanders. Some of the sport’s top stars will take the starting line in what should be an epic showdown on the hills and cobblestones of Belgium.

Matthew van der Poel, Wout van Aert and Tadej Pogacar are all aiming to win the Tour of Flanders, and the best cycling betting sites have them as the three odds on favorites to pick up the victory.

With the amount of firepower in the peloton, this one-day race is shaping up to be an instant classic. Let’s take a look at the latest Tour of Flanders odds and make our predictions on who will win Belgium’s biggest race.

Tour of Flanders Betting Favorites

The following cyclists are listed as the betting favorites at the best Tour of Flanders betting sites:

Mathieu van der Poel +250

Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) comes into the Tour of Flanders as the slight betting favorite over his longtime rival Wout van Aert. And, after the way van der Poel has raced over the last month, it’s easy to see why online betting sites are picking the Dutch rider to win.

MVDP has rounded into form with a dominating win at Milano-Sanremo and a second-place finish at the E3 Saxo Classic. Both of these races took place within the last few weeks.

Not only is van der Poel on form for the 2023 season, but he’s also been stellar at Flanders in his career. For MVDP, this will be his 5 th appearance in the Tour of Flanders. Van der Poel has finished 4 th or better in all four appearances including a runner-up and two victories.

Van der Poel won in 2020 and last year. He’s looking to pull off the Flanders hat trick with a victory this weekend.

Wout van Aert +300

Wout van Aert (Team Jumbo-Visma) has finished in the Top 3 over his last three races. He was third in Milano-Sanremo, 1 st in E3 Saxo Classic and 2 nd at Gent-Wevelgem.

WVA will have a lot of confidence heading into this race especially because he beat van der Poel and Pogacar at the E3 on March 24. Additionally, van Aert dominated at Gent-Wevelgem on March 26 but allowed his teammate Laporte to win.

Also motivating van Aert is the fact that he’s never won the Tour of Flanders. His best finish came in 2020 where he was runner-up to van der Poel. Wout didn’t compete in this race last year.

One area where WVA has an advantage over his rivals is the strength of Team Jumbo-Visma. Christophe Laporte and Tiesj Benoot will both be there to help van Aert compete for the victory.

Tadej Pogacar +350

Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) also has extra motivation to defat van der Poel and van Aert. Tadej was outclassed by MVDP last year in Flanders as Pogacar finished 4 th . Additionally, he’s finished behind both men at Milano-Sanremo and E3 Saxo Classic.

Pogacar always appears to be in good form and that was made evident when he dominated at Paris-Nice earlier this month. Tadej won three of the eight stages and easily rode off with the yellow jersey.

Pogacar is the best climber of the favorites, but will he have enough firepower in his legs to beat out van Aert and van der Poel in a sprint?

Tadej Pogačar missed out on the podium at the 2022 Tour of Flanders after this incredible finish 🏁 Can he go at least one better and take a podium on Sunday…or maybe even win? 🏆 Tune into GCN+ this weekend to watch #RVV23 live (some territory restrictions apply) 📺 pic.twitter.com/IJ2a4wlyGC — GCN Racing (@GcnRacing) March 28, 2023

The Best Tour of Flanders Betting Value

The following cyclists provide betting value based on their current Tour of Flanders odds, past performances in this race and current success this season:

Christophe Laporte +1600

Christophe Laporte (Team Jumbo-Visma) enters this weekend’s Belgium classic as Wout van Aert’s top lieutenant. He also enters having won his last two races.

As mentioned above, Laporte scored the victory at Gent-Wevelgem. However, he also pulled off another victory on March 29, when he outworked the field to win the 77 th Dwars door Vlaanderen.

Laporte is in good form and should be with the contenders near the end of the race. If anything happens to Wout, Laporte will become the leader and go for the win.

Tom Pidcock +2200

Tom Pidcock (INEOS Grenadiers) offers the best betting value out of all the riders lining up to compete in Flanders this weekend. He has the speed, power, and bike handling skills to compete with the overall favorites.

Furthermore, he’s already picked up a win this year (Strade Bianche) and could’ve contended for a second victory in Milan-Sanremo if it wasn’t for sustaining a concussion in the Tirreno-Adriatico.

Fortunately, Pidcock was able to recover from the injury and compete in the Dwars door Vlaanderen a few days ago. The British cyclist shows no signs of his concussion and will be a contender to win this weekend’s classic.

The Best Tour of Flanders Longshot

Tiesj Benoot (+3300) is our longshot pick for the 107 th Tour of Flanders. Yes, he’s a third member of Team Jumbo-Visma getting attention in this betting preview, but he’s worth it. And, it also reinforces how strong Jumbo is this weekend.

Benoot won the Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne in late-February and was a force to be reckoned with at the E3 Saxo Classic before a bike mechanical problem took him out of the race.

I expect Tiesj to be with Laporte and van Aert until the end. Furthermore, there are some pundits who feel that Benoot is the second-best Jumbo-Visma rider in this race and not Laporte. Either way, the 29-year-old Belgian rider will be a factor in this race one way or another.

Who Will Win the 2023 Tour of Flanders?

As a cycling fan, and avid sports bettor, I’m very excited for this Sunday’s race. When you have the firepower of Mathieu van der Poel, Wout van Aert and Tadej Pogacar all competing for the victory, you know that you are in for something special.

And, it’s going to take something special for one of these riders to separate themselves from the others. With that said, Wout van Aert has that something special – his teammates.

Van Aert and van der Poel can exchange wins on a weekly basis. But what separates Wout from van der Poel in this weekend’s race, is that van Aert has Laporte and Benoot alongside him.

Although van der Poel has proven in the past not to need any teammates to win a race like Flanders, he’s going to be under a lot of pressure this weekend with Team Jumbo-Visma doing everything they can to make him crack. The same goes for Pogacar.

You really can’t go wrong taking any of the three favorites since they’re all capable of winning Flanders on Sunday. But, being Belgium’s biggest cycling star, it’s time for van Aert to win Belgium’s biggest race.

Cycling Betting Odds

Tour of flandres betting odds.

The Tour of Flanders or the De Ronde is an annual cycling race that’s held in Belgium in April. The race is one of the five monuments of cycling and is one of the two cobbled classics – alongside the Paris-Roubaix. There is a men’s and women’s race at the Tour of Flanders, held on the same day – the women’s race being slightly shorter.

There have been 100 editions of the Tour of Flanders , only having two years where the race did not go on – World War I and World War II. The 2023 event is slated for April 2nd.

The Tour of Flanders route mostly takes place in West Flanders and East Flanders, located in the east of Belgium. The route typically starts in Antwerp, close to the North Sea, and heads south along the flatlands and ends in Oudenaarde. It isn’t until around the 70-kilometer mark where the riders encounter the first climbs, leading them into East Flanders , where they’ll find more cobbled roads. Overall, the route has many sharp turns and winding roads, and on cobbled roads, that can add extensive difficulty.

Single-day races are essentially tests of endurance for the riders, but the Tour of Flanders needs to be a strategic one where riders need to plan their attacks to gain a lead. Typically, cobbled specialists excel, as well as more explosive riders. Sprinters have a great opportunity to come out of the pack as well.

2025 Tour of Flanders Winners Odds

The odds were last updated on May 2, 2024:

It is common for the winner of the previous year’s Tour of Flanders to be at the top of the odds board or at least near the top, so naturally, we are seeing Peter Sagan sitting in the fourth spot at +1600 – which of course is great odds, if he does indeed win back to back championships.

How to Bet on the Tour of Flanders

The first step to starting your Tour of Flanders’ betting strategy includes learning the common and popular betting options for cycling and learning how they can be used during the 2020 Tour of Flanders race.

Popular Tour of Flanders Betting Options

If you visit your favorite online sportsbook, you will need to head to the cycling section, it doesn’t get the real estate that the North American professional sports would have, so you may have to hunt for it. Be aware that you may see some different betting types you may not particularly be familiar with if you’re used to the regular moneylines, totals, and spreads.

Tour of Flanders Futures

The main set of odds you will see are the Odds to Win the 2020 Tour of Flanders – these are called futures. Futures are essentially bets that you will place before the event even starts. The further away from the event, you place your wager, the riskier the wager is and higher the odds will be.

It’s possible to find some really great value if you pick an underdog and they end up winning the race. When looking at the futures for the Tour of Flanders , you’ll see a list of the riders participating, with those that are most likely to win at the top.

Wout Van Art is sitting at the top of the board, with Mathieu Van Der Poel not far behind, making them the most likely to win the race. Many of the other riders have much higher odds, and a bet on them would pay out greatly if they won the race.

Top 3 Finish

The top three finish wager allows for a small margin of error if you aren’t sure if your rider will win the race outright. This can be popular for new bettors who don’t have experience betting on cycling events, so choosing a rider to place in the top three with reduced odds (usually ¼ of what the outright win wager would be) is a safer bet.

Top 10 Finish

This Tour of Flanders betting type is the same as the top three finish above, with even more reduced odds and your rider will need to place in the top ten.

Moneyline (vs the Field)

Betting against the field is popular in single-player sports like golf as well, so you may have experience with this option. Some sportsbooks offer moneyline odds on each rider, and then their odds versus the field. You are betting on this rider to beat everyone else in the race. Essentially if you choose the field, and any other rider wins, you win – but the odds are so low, many times this bet isn’t even worth making.

Choosing the field is pretty risky as you will see odds like -1400 or more on the field to win. It can just be another betting option or just another way to double down on your futures wager.

BetOnline

There aren’t many opportunities to bet on cycling events as there are only so many options to wager on – as you can see above. It’s also likely that your local retail sportsbook won’t even offer cycling odds as all of the major monuments and Grand Tour events happen in Europe.

The best option for betting on cycling events and the Tour of Flanders is online offshore sportsbooks. There are some fantastic sportsbooks that offer a huge assortment of sports to wager on – especially cycling odds.

Reading online sportsbook reviews can help prepare you for betting on the Tour of Flanders and the other single-day Monument cycling races. We at OnlineSportsBetting have a great selection of sportsbook reviews and only recommend the best online sportsbooks in the industry.

Betting on the Tour of Flanders online is fun and can be exciting, especially if you’re betting responsibly.

Tour of Flanders: Mathieu van der Poel smashes Monument with massive solo victory

As it happened: Mathieu van der Poel makes history with record-equalling Flanders win

Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) took an astounding solo victory at the Tour of Flanders 2024 when he rode away from the field with 45km remaining to stretch out to a winning margin of 1:02.

Behind him, a two-man breakaway of Alberto Bettiol (EF Education–EasyPost) and Dylan Teuns (Israel-Premier Tech) was caught on the finish line by a chase group from which Luca Mozzato (Arkéa - B&B Hotels) sprinted to second place and Michael Matthews (Jayco-AlUla) took third.

Matthews was later relegated for dangerous sprinting, allegedly deviating from his line to not allow Nils Politt (UAE Team Emirates) to pass him, meaning that fourth-place finisher Pollit moved onto the podium.

Van der Poel was in a league of his own when he attacked on the Koppenberg ascent, with only Matteo Jorgenson (Visma-Lease a Bike) able to keep any semblance of pace with the World Champion. However, with 40km remaining, Van der Pel moved to a margin of over 30 seconds and was squeezing seconds out of Jorgenson every kilometre.

By the ascent of the Kwaremont, Van der Poel had extended his margin over Jorgenson, Pedersen, and the growing chase group, leaving the remaining 37km an informal victory procession.

How to Watch the Tour of Flanders

The fields for Sunday are absolutely stacked for one of the most exciting races on the spring calendar.

106th ronde van vlaanderen tour des flandres 2022 men's elite

This season’s second Monument just might be the best.

The warm-up races with names we can barely pronounce wrapped-up with Wednesday’s Dwars door Vlaanderen, which means it’s time for the biggest race in Belgium and one of the hardest races on the men’s and women’s calendars: the Tour of Flanders (known locally as the Ronde van Vlaanderen , or more simply as the Ronde ). Here’s everything you need to know about the season’s second Monument.

For the first time since 2016, the 273K men’s race begins in Bruges. The course then zig-zags its way southeast toward the hills of the Flemish Ardennes, a region packed with short, steep (often cobbled) climbs which the locals call bergs . Once the race passes through Oudenaarde (home to the Tour of Flanders Museum), the action centers around two big loops, each featuring two climbs—the Oude Kwaremont (long, steady, and cobbled) and the Paterberg (short, steep, and cobbled)—that often determine the outcome of the race.

19th ronde van vlaanderen tour des flandres 2022 women's elite

Filled with narrow farm roads (more like bike paths) that seem to wind endlessly around the Flemish countryside, it often takes years for riders to master the nuances of the course. And it’s early April, which means weather can be a factor as well (there’s nothing more slippery than cobblestones covered in wet manure). No wonder Belgians have won the race 69 times.

Of the 19 climbs in this year’s men’s race, the Koppenberg (44K from the finish line) is probably the most famous. Super-steep, cobbled, and narrow, this is where the race’s final phase begins. Riders who don’t hit the climb at the front of the peloton are often forced to get off their bikes and walk as the sudden deceleration caused by the abrupt change in terrain ripples backwards through the pack. The race is essentially over for anyone who doesn’t make it over the top in the top-25.

After the Koppenberg, five climbs remain, and recent editions of the Ronde have seen race-winning attacks launched on just about all of them. Lately it’s all come down to the final ascent of the Oude Kwaremont-Paterberg combo, with special attention often given to the rolling road in between as riders try and surprise their rivals while they recover from the Kwaremont and prepare for the Paterberg.

Leaving out the portion from Bruges, the 156K women’s race begins and ends in Oudenaarde, with 13 of the bergs featured in the men’s event including–for the first time last year–the Koppenberg. In fact, the women’s and men’s finales are identical, with the Kruisberg, the Oude Kwaremont, and the Paterberg coming in quick succession providing the final launchpad for riders hoping to escape.

From the top of the final ascent of the Paterberg it’s only 13K to the finish line in Oudenaarde, a distance that several riders have covered alone in recent years. Sprints are rare in the Ronde–the race is too hard to see large groups make it to the finish line still in contention for the win–so if they happen they only happen in groups of 3 or 4.

How to Watch

We’ll be up early on Sunday, April 2 to watch the men as they hit the Oude Kwaremont for the first time (about 7:30 a.m. EDT). If that’s too early for you, set an alarm for about 9:30 a.m. EDT, the second passage over the cobbled ascent on the first of the Ronde’s two final circuits.

The men’s race should finish around 10:45 a.m. EDT, at which point the women (depending on their average speed) should be nearing or just over the Koppenberg. Their race should finish around 11:45 a.m. EDT, which means you’re in for at least 2+ hours of fantastic racing.

What Happened Last Year

106th ronde van vlaanderen tour des flandres 2022 men's elite

With Belgium’s Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) out after testing positive for COVID-19, the Netherlands’ Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) entered the day as the top favorite. But van der Poel had a new foe: Slovenia’s Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates), who was making his Flanders debut 1) to get a taste of the cobblestones in preparation for July’s Tour de France, and 2) because he’s Tadej Pogačar and he can pretty much be a contender in any race he enters.

And that proved to be the case as the two-time Tour de France champion attacked on the second ascent of the Oude Kwaremont, then again on the Koppenberg, and finally on the last ascent of the Oude Kwaremont–with van der Poel the only rider able to follow him. The duo worked well together until the final kilometer, when van der Poel slowed, almost daring Pogačar to start the sprint. His deceleration allowed a small group of chasers to rejoin the duo, at which point the Dutchman accelerated, winning the race for the second time in three years. His compatriot Dylan van Baarle (INEOS Grenadiers) finished second, and France’s Valentin Madouas (Groupama-FDJ) took third. After botching the sprint, Pogačar was forced to settle for a disappointing fourth-place finish.

About an hour later, Belgium’s Lotte Kopecky (Team SD Worx) saved the day for the home fans, winning the women’s Tour of Flanders in the black-yellow-red jersey of the Belgian national champion.

19th ronde van vlaanderen tour des flandres 2022 women's elite

An elite group of six came together after the final ascent of the Paterberg, including Kopecky, her teammates Chantal van den Broek-Blaak (who won the Ronde in 2021) and Marlen Reusser, and Movistar’s Annemiek van Vleuten (the defending champion).

With strength in numbers, SD Worx played its cards well. Reusser was the first to attack, a move quickly countered by van Vleuten. Then van den Broek-Blaak went, initially catching van Vleuten off-guard. The two-time Ronde winner recovered though, chasing down van den Broek-Blaak–but bringing Kopecky along for the ride. Once caught, van den Broek-Blaak rode for her teammate, leading out the sprint for the Belgian champion. She’s only the second Belgian to win the women’s Ronde.

Riders to Watch

Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck)

Winner of two of the last three editions–and Milan-Sanremo two weeks ago–van der Poel is the top favorite heading into Sunday’s men’s event. Yes, he lost last Friday’s E3 Saxo Bank Classic (a mini-Tour of Flanders) to van Aert, but he was clearly the strongest rider in the race and would have won had van Aert not (wisely) opted for a long-distance sprint (the Dutchman prefers shorter, more sudden accelerations). A win Sunday would put van der Poel alongside some of the sport’s greatest Classics riders atop the Ronde’s record books with an incredible three wins in five starts.

Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma)

66th e3 saxo bank classic harelbeke 2023

Van Aert missed last year’s race after testing positive for COVID-19 a few days before the event, a big shame since the Belgian was in the form of his life and looked ready to avenge his narrow loss to van der Poel in 2020. Belgian seems to have timed his form just right again: he won Friday’s E3 Saxo Bank Classic and finished second after giving the win to his teammate, France’s Christophe Laporte , in Sunday’s Gent-Wevelgem.

Van Aert seems to have finally learned to play a bit more poker, saving his energy for well-timed attacks and forcing other riders to share the responsibility of chasing other moves and driving key breakaways. If all goes as planned, on Sunday he’ll win his first cobbled Monument, becoming the first Belgian to win the Ronde since 2017.

Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates)

Pogačar raced in two of last year’s cobbled Classics–Dwars door Vlaanderen and the Tour of Flanders–seemingly just as preparation for the cobbled stage of July’s Tour de France. But Pog doesn’t start races for training: he finished 10th in Dwars door Vlaanderen and 4th in Flanders. Well, after messing up last year, he’s back and committed to winning it. Forming the third piece of a star-studded breakaway in Friday’s E3 Saxo Bank Classic, the Slovenian joined van der Poel and van Aert in the winning move. But winning Flanders is a tall order for the Slovenian: the climbs in Flanders aren’t long enough for him to drop the other two–and he can’t outsprint them. Watching Pogačar try and figure out a way to win could be this year’s most exciting storyline.

Matej Mohorič (Bahrain-Victorious) and Stefan Küng (Groupama-FDJ)

We won’t be surprised if this plays out in a way similar to the E3 Saxo Bank Classic, with van der Poel, van Aert, and Pogačar breaking away to hog all the glory for themselves. But if there is an “upset,” we won’t be shocked if Mohorič or Küng is the rider to pull it off. Over the past two seasons they’ve put themselves firmly on a tier right below the “Big Three” in the cobbled Classics. Their teams are deep and experienced, and they both could profit should there be a stalemate among the top three contenders. Mohorič is an opportunist and will likely try and escape earlier than the others might expect; Küng is a time trialist and could prove hard to catch if he gets a gap late in the race.

Lotte Kopecky (Team SD Worx)

18th omloop het nieuwsblad elite 2023 women's elite

Team SD Worx is far and away the strongest in the race, and as they showed last year, they have several cards to play. Their captain will likely be Kopecky , the defending champion. Able to win alone or in a small group sprint, she should be the focal point of the team’s plans.

Marlen Reusser (Team SD Worx)

Kopecky’s toughest competition might come from within her own team, most likely in the form of a rider who played a big role in helping her win last year: Reusser. The Swiss time trialist scored an amazing solo victory in Sunday’s Gent-Wevelgem . A strong time trialist, if she gets away late in the race and other teams refuse to chase her (for fear of giving Kopecky a free ride to the finish line) they may never see her again.

Demi Vollering (Team SD Worx)

A stark contrast to Laporte and van Aert’s 1-2 finish in Ghent-Wevelgem (in which van Aert openly gifted the win to his teammate), Vollering outsprinted Kopecky to win Strade Bianche in March, a result that certainly made for some awkward post-race comments. Well, we could be in for a repeat: Vollering won Wednesday’s Dwars door Vlaanderen , and we’re wondering how she and Kopecky will coexist on Sunday. Will Vollering ride for her Belgian teammate? Will Kopecky chase her if she doesn’t? The race within this team will go a long way toward determining the Ronde’s final outcome.

Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar)

7th setmana ciclista volta comunitat valenciana femines 2023 stage 4

Racing her final season as a professional, van Vleuten has had a relatively quiet spring thus far: she hasn’t competed since Strade Bianche (in early March) and shockingly hasn’t won a race yet this year. That said, we’ve learned to never discount the current world champion, who had a quiet spring in 2021 but then won both Dwars door Vlaanderen and Flanders in the same week. Overlooking her could prove fatal for the opposition.

Marianne Vos (Jumbo-Visma)

Vos has only raced twice so far this season, but the Dutch rider finished third in Dwars door Vlaanderen, a result that shows she’s right where she needs to be to add another Tour of Flanders to her resume (she won the race way back in 2013). She could be using Flanders to put the finishing touches on her form for next weekend’s Paris-Roubaix (one of the only major races missing from her palmares), but if a large group hits the finish line in Oudenaarde, she’s a good bet to win the field sprint.

History of Samara Oblast

The territory of the present Samara region became part of the Russian state in the middle of the 16th century, after the Kazan and Astrakhan khanates were conquered by the Russian state. In the 17th-18th centuries, the territory around the middle Volga was colonized by migrants from other regions of Russia and foreigners (in particular, the Volga Germans).

The intensified colonization of the region began only in the second half of the 18th century. From the mid 19th century, this region experienced economic growth. Samara became an important center of the Russian domestic grain market, which led to the development of trade and industry in the city. In 1851, Samara became the center of Samara guberniya (province).

In 1935, Samara was renamed into Kuybyshev (the historical name was returned in 1990). In Soviet times, industrialization had a serious impact on the development of the region. Construction of plants producing explosives, poisonous substances and ammunition began in the town of Chapayevsk.

During the Second World War, the region became one of the centers of the defense industry of the USSR. In 1941, an oil processing plant was put into operation in Syzran providing the army with fuel. Several aviation plants were evacuated to Kuybyshev from Moscow and Voronezh. They started production of “Il-2” attack aircraft.

More Historical Facts…

In 1942, a railway passed through Syzran to supply Soviet troops during the Stalingrad Battle. In 1941-1943, diplomatic missions of foreign countries to the USSR were located in Kuybyshev (Samara). In 1941, there were plans for transferring the capital of the country to Kuybyshev in case the German troops capture Moscow.

In the 1950s-1960s, this region was one of the leading centers of oil extracting in the USSR. In 1945-1951, Kuybyshev and Novokuybyshev oil processing plants were built. At the same time, construction of Zhiguli hydroelectric power station was resumed. It was put into operation in 1955. Because of this construction, the town of Stavropol was flooded and was rebuilt in a new place and received a new name - Tolyatti.

Later, the construction base created during the construction of Zhiguli hydroelectric power station was used to create a series of other large industrial enterprises in Tolyatti - “KuybyshevAzot” mineral fertilizer plant, “Tolyattikauchuk” synthetic rubber plant (1964-1966), the Volga Automobile Plant (1970), and the largest in the country and the world manufacturer of ammonia “TolyattiAzot” (1979).

At the same time, aviation production was expanded. Kuibyshev Aviation Plant began production of the most mass Soviet passenger medium-haul aircraft Tu-154. The Soviet rocket space program orders were also fulfilled at this plant (“Progress” rockets).

In the post Soviet period, due to saved economic potential, Samara oblast has become one of the main economic centers of the country.
