Taking on the ultimate test of stamina, strength and endurance this week, Arielle pedalled 100 miles through wind, rain and freezing temperatures to complete her longest ever DJ set, all whilst cycling.

The Radio 1 DJ and teams of listeners worked together to keep the wheels turning and the decks spinning – and they couldn’t have crossed the finish line without your support.

Arielle took on this Red Nose Day challenge to raise life changing money for Comic Relief; and there’s still time to donate. The money raised will help support people struggling with the cost-of-living crisis and tackle issues such as homelessness, mental health problems, and food poverty here in the UK and around the world, so if you can support Arielle and the team, a donation of any amount will help to make a difference.

It doesn’t have to cost the earth to help change lives. Your donation can help people who are facing the toughest times of their lives, here in the UK and around the world. Please donate what you can, now.

Ahead of her big challenge, Arielle visited a Comic Relief funded project called ‘Mind Our Music’ in Luton.

Mind Our Music is a weekly music therapy support group for adults with mental health conditions and provides them with a unique opportunity to engage in making high quality live music. The music is led by the participants as much as possible, with the support of facilitators, including a Music Therapist and a Community Musician. The project is run by Music24 at the Bear Club (a Jazz club) in Luton.

Arielle took part in the session, having a go on the drums and various other instruments, and chatting to the participants about their experiences of the project; finding out how it supports their mental health. For over 35 years, Comic Relief has been supporting people facing the toughest times of their lives, both here in the UK and around the world. Please donate what you can, now.

Why More and More Dancers Are Getting Into Aerial

aerial tour de dance

These days, you don’t have to be in the circus to learn how to fly. Aerial dance has grown in popularity in recent years, blending modern dance and circus traditions and enlisting the help of trapeze, silks, hammocks, lyra and cube for shows that push both viewers and performers past their comfort zones.

More dancers are learning aerial than ever before. Besides adding new skills to your resumé, becoming an aerialist opens up a new realm of possibilities.

Why Take to the Skies?

Many dancers are drawn to aerial work for the diverse performance prospects—from night club acts to Broadway stages to concerts. “I do a fun burlesque number in Atlantic City every Thursday,” says Hannah Risner, a New York City–based aerialist. “But then I can also do corporate work at someone’s holiday party as the pretty dancer in the air.”

Having aerial skills can make you more hirable, says Joshua Dean, co-owner of Aerial Arts NYC. “For me, becoming a circus performer actually brought me back into the musical theater world because they wanted my specific skills.”

Aerial also provides the opportunity to be both choreographer and dancer. “So much of the time when I was a dancer, I was doing other people’s work,” says Dean. “But as a circus performer, you get to create your own work.”

Longevity is another draw. “One of the reasons I moved away from traditional dance was because my body was hurting,” says Dean. “Doing my own work, I can make changes if my body doesn’t feel good that day.”

How to Become an Aerial Dancer

Like concert dance, aerial is rooted in proper training and technique. But there is no single path towards a professional career. Many aerialists were concert dancers or theater performers, while others began as circus artists.

Dancers who want to make the leap to aerial should first find an experienced coach or training program that emphasizes safety. Training takes time, and attempting a skill that they are not qualified to perform could cost them their career.

As aerial dance becomes more prominent, university dance programs are taking note. Both University of Wyoming and University of New Hampshire implement aerial training into their curriculum, and University of Colorado at Boulder offers an MFA program with an emphasis on aerial and works closely with Frequent Flyers Aerial Dance.

What Dancers Should Know

While there are a handful of aerial companies (like Frequent Flyers, UpSwing Aerial Dance Company and A-WOL Dance Collective) that offer traditional company positions, most aerial dancers are “gig artists” who are hired to perform their acts at events. It may seem like competition would be steep for these jobs, but the fact that dancers create their own routines—which they generally perform at auditions rather than learning any set choreography—works to their advantage. “There may be 15 other short, strong brunettes, but no one does my act, and I don’t do anyone else’s act,” says Risner.

Today, there are enough opportunities to teach and perform that a full-time aerial career is possible. “People have danced hanging off hot air balloons,” says Nancy Smith, founder and artistic director of Frequent Flyers. “Our company has danced off the side of a 33-story building. Everyone is continuing to push the boundaries of what’s possible both physically and creatively, so the field of aerial dance will continue to develop.”

Aerial dance

aerial tour de dance

Traditional tango moves are stretched, expanded and turned upside down as a pair of dancers attached to bungees skim across the surface of the floor—without touching it. She walks up his legs and down his arms, and he holds her in lifts impossible without the aid of the apparatus. Aerial dance, which relies on equipment to lift dancers, is known for its ability to add dimensions to choreography  impossible to achieve in conventional dance.

Aerial dance originated in the 1960s when postmodern dancers like Alwin Nikolais and Trisha Brown started experimenting with taking dance from the horizontal to the vertical realm in order to extend the possibilities of the modern dance vocabulary. Nearly 50 years after those first explorations, there are aerial dance companies, international aerial dance festivals and schools devoted to teaching the genre.

“The aesthetic is like any other dance form,” says Nancy Smith, artistic director of Frequent Flyers Productions based in Boulder, CO, “but you can go much higher, cover space to a much greater degree and elongate and draw things out like you wouldn’t be able to do without the use of apparatus.” Here, DS takes a look at the highs and lows of aerial dance.

High Accessibility “As long as you have a moderate level of physical fitness, you’re ready to give it a try,” says Chloe Jensen, co-director of Ameba Acrobatic and Aerial Dance in Chicago. “Aerial takes a significant amount of upper body and core strength, but a dancer can develop those things through the study of aerial dance techniques,” she adds. While Jensen’s company teaches students as young as 5, Smith and Jayne Bernasconi, artistic director of Air Dance Bernasconi in Baltimore, co-authors of the book Aerial Dance , think 10 is an ideal age to start. Before then, kids can be too reckless with their bodies. “They don’t have a sense of fear yet,” explains Bernasconi.

A sense of fear is one thing, but what about a fear of heights? Professionals say that shouldn’t be a deterrent. Much of aerial dance has nothing to do with being up high. “It’s about using the equipment to discover new possibilities of movement,” Jensen says.

Each apparatus can be hung high or low. “You can stay low and do swings under the bar,” explains Bernasconi. “You can grab the bar and run underneath it, kick off and bring your feet off the floor. You can bring your toes up to the bar and stand up or climb up the ropes to the ceiling. It all depends on where you want to take it.”

What to Expect Expect to work progressively, working your way up in space. “A beginner starts with her feet on the ground touching the bar at the low-flying trapeze and then progresses to hanging, to sitting, to swinging and to going upside down,” says Smith.

Bernasconi’s warm-up begins with arm-strengthening, shoulder-rotation exercises and core stability work. “The stronger your core is, the less strain aerial work will have on your shoulders because the shoulders are really what takes the brunt of the stress,” she says. Then she introduces students to the single-point trapeze with an exercise she calls pulling taffy. “You’re still on the floor, but you fall into space holding the trapeze,” she says. “It warms up your hands as well your body and helps you to trust the equipment.”

It’s not uncommon for students to experience motion sickness. “You’re off the ground and upside down and the movement and spinning can create vertigo,” says Smith. Expect to get bruised and sore in ways that you don’t from traditional dance forms. You can also get calluses on your hands and the backs of your knees, and shoulder injuries are common.

While there’s obviously a certain amount of risk involved with aerial dance, a reputable instructor will work to minimize that risk with safe rigging. “We run about eight classes a week and 15 hours a week of company rehearsals,” says Jensen. “We have never seen a serious injury.” When looking for an instructor, insist that he or she take the time to explain the rigging system and teach you how to check it yourself. “It’s like packing a parachute when you’re jumping out of an airplane,” says Bernasconi. “You probably want to be the one to pack that parachute so you know exactly what’s going on.”

Prep Talk Since the equipment used in aerial dance is unpredictable, improvisation is an important part of the work. “You may go to grab the apparatus and it’s not where it was every other time in rehearsal,” explains Smith. You have to be prepared for sudden changes.

In preparation for your first class, hang off playground equipment to gain familiarity with being upside down. “In choreography, you have to know where your body is in space when you’re not touching the ground,” says Smith. Hang on the monkey bars. Practice pushups with your hands underneath your shoulders and your elbows close to your side. “This way you’re building your back muscles and abdominals,” says Bernasconi.

Once you’ve prepped yourself for using muscles you didn’t know you had, assumed the risk and psyched yourself up for being suspended in mid-air, Smith suggests freeing your mind in order to reap all the benefits of the genre. “Aerial is a very liberating art form, and it spurs people’s creativity,” she says.

Radio 1’s Arielle Free to DJ while cycling for 50 hours in aid of Red Nose Day

aerial tour de dance

Radio 1 host Arielle Free is to take on the longest set of her life as she will attempt to DJ live while cycling for 50 hours across five cities in five days to raise funds for Red Nose Day.

From Sunday, the early breakfast host will be taking to the streets of York , Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester and Liverpool , tackling a different city each day.

The Scottish broadcaster, 34, will undertake the challenge, dubbed Tour de Dance with Arielle Free, on a 10-person bike adapted with DJ decks and a giant Red Nose.

Along the way, she will be joined by Radio 1 listeners and some famous faces in each of the cities who will need to help her pedal to keep the music pumping.

On the first day, Free will join Radio 1 presenter Greg James for a special ‘Tour de Dance For Red Nose Day’ breakfast show to talk through the task she is about to embark on.

Free said: “I’m so nervous about the challenge, it’s something I’d never considered before, and that’s just the cycling shorts! It’s going to be a huge mental and physical challenge peddling whilst mixing live, across five cities in one week.

“I have definitely had some funny looks in the gym whilst practising DJing on the bikes!

“Looking forward to raving and pedalling across the nation, if you see us cycling past, please show some support by dancing along! And please donate if you can!”

James added: “These challenges only work when the whole station and all the listeners get behind them so I’ll be doing my very best to be the ringmaster back at base rallying everyone together to get Arielle over the finish line.

“She’s incredibly tough but this will be her biggest challenge yet.”

Money raised for Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day will help those affected by the cost-of-living crisis and tackle issues such as homelessness, mental health problems, and food poverty in the UK and across the world.

A portion of the money raised will also go towards the emergency response to the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

FLY-LINES: A Brief History of Aerial Dance

By Selby Schwartz

Off-the-ground dance comes loaded with its own peculiar history, beginning with the acrobatic and technological innovation of women dancing on pointe. At the end of the 18th century, Charles Didelot was rigging dancers up with wires so that they could “fly” very briefly during performances. In 1832, when Marie Taglioni debuted in La Sylphide , a vision of ethereal grace, she was the first ballerina known to have danced a full piece on pointe. Bournonville described Taglioni as “everything that can be imagined as pure, gracious and poetic, combined with a talent whose outstanding quality was an airy lightness.” The quality of lightness in Western concert dance thus came to be inextricably linked with 19th century moral values of femininity: grace, purity, and a denial of the body’s messy materiality.

When early 20th-century modern dance in America reclaimed the body’s relation to the ground, it was forcibly confronting ballet’s tradition of enforced lightness. Modern dance proclaimed the doctrine of the bare foot on the floor, the movement that emanated from the solar plexus or the pelvis, and the body moving deliberately off-balance, so that gravity would be an inherent part of the dance. Because the genealogy of early modern dance history was composed almost entirely of women, ideas of the feminine body in dance quickly accrued a new set of associations contrary to those in ballet: the female dancer’s body was now grounded, powerful, flexible, and dramatically independent. Elevation and aerial lightness were not central concerns of American modern dance until the 1960s and 70s, when Alwin Nikolais and Trisha Brown started staging dances on rooftops and rigging their dancers up in harnesses and ropes.

As it turned out, aerial and off-the-ground dance was going to be as much the province of women as early modern dance had been, especially in the Bay Area. Following Terry Sendgraff, who pioneered the motivity trapeze in San Francisco in the 1970s, the tradition of local aerial dance includes Joanna Haigood of Zaccho Dance (Kreiter’s first mentor), and Amelia Rudolph of Project Bandaloop. A little ironically, these female choreographers—with strong convictions, strong biceps, and a strong grounding in community politics—are foremost among the inheritors of Didelot’s experiments with rigging dancers to “fly” with airy lightness on wires more than two centuries ago; the hardest part of her job, Jo Kreiter says, is “actually finding a committed and steady relationship with a rigger.”

  • How To Teach The Perfect Aerial

by Laura Fleming | Jul 9, 2020 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

aerial tour de dance

Ask any student: what is the number one trick you want to learn? The answer is always the same – an Aerial!

The Aerial is one of the most challenging Acro tricks to learn, despite the fact that it is actually NOT one of the most difficult tricks to execute once mastered.

Most students require at least one to two years to learn it but once they get it, it feels very simple and is one of the more versatile tricks to use in choreography.

A Side Aerial should be taught from a step, retiré lunge preparation, with the chest up on the take-off, and a strong drive back with the arms (arms are reaching straight up and vertical in the upside-down position); it ends in a strong square lunge of the first leg (the absorbing leg), with a stretched and strong landing of the second leg (the braking leg), with the upper body finished open to the audience and the arms in Acro 4th Position. (More on this ending position later)!

I spent 20 years of my career analyzing Aerials, and studied several different methodologies and approaches during trying to figure out the best way to teach Aerials (I personally taught and was taught several INCORRECT and INEFFICIENT ways to do an Aerial – yikes!).

After teaching over 1000 different students, and having tried EVERY method to teach and execute an Aerial, I cracked the code and created the following ADTA 4-step system to teaching this highly sought-after trick – and it WORKS!

Check out the Aerial Preparation – 4-Step System here:

aerial tour de dance

As a bonus, this four-step method utilizes the same technique that is used to achieve a Front Aerial, making the transition from mastering a Side Aerial to learning a Front Aerial seamless – two tricks for the price of one!

If you take the one to two years necessary to perfect the technique in each step, your students will be able to perform stunning, high Aerials that “pop” off of the ground beautifully and SAFELY.

This four-step method also greatly reduces the amount of spotting required for each student, and students that take the time to learn this proper Aerial technique will have their Aerials for LIFE.

Check out the ADTA method for spotting here:

aerial tour de dance

Why You Should NOT Teach Aerials from a Running Preparation:

Students that learn Aerials from a running preparation come to depend on momentum to take off, instead of learning to push from the hip joint. When a student learns how to push out of his or her hip joint, he/she is able to “pop” off the floor easily, enabling him or her to dance into and out of the Aerial flawlessly, without the use of an obvious preparation.

Why Aerials Should Finish in a Strong Lunge:

At the ADTA, we emphasize the need for aerials to finish in strong square lunge of the first leg (the absorbing leg), with a stretched and strong landing of the second leg (the braking leg), with the upper body finished open to the audience and the arms in Acro 4th position. This is to get your students used to a one-footed landing. The second leg is merely a brake, and there should be a brief pause between the landing of the first and second foot on the floor.

When students are used to landing on one foot (instead of immediately shifting weight onto the second foot), their second foot is still “free” and available for creative transitions, such as a turn, leg extension, or even another aerial!

It’s Prince Siegfried’s 21 st birthday.  Young people have gathered to celebrate the occasion including the Prince’s friend Benno, and his old tutor Wolfgang.  The festivities are spirited and there is much dancing and games.  In the midst of the activity, the Prince’s aunt arrives to remind her nephew that his coming of age is a serious affair – it is time for him to marry.   A Ball has been arranged for the following evening and there, from a group of prospective fiancées, he is to choose a bride.

Siegfried is disconsolate at the thought of his carefree youth slipping away.  He has no desire to marry.   The day draws to a close and in an attempt to cheer his friend, Benno points to a flock of wild swans in flight and suggests a hunting expedition.  Deciding that life is still to be enjoyed Siegfried orders pursuit.

A C T  T W O

The hunting party follows the swans thought the woods, reaching a clearing where they settle on a nearby lake.  Siegfried’s attention is suddenly attracted by a beautiful white swan, which is transformed into a lovely young maiden.  She is Odette, Queen of the Swans.  The evil sorcerer Von Rothbart holds her under his spell – by day she and her friends are and must remain swans, but between midnight and dawn they may resume their human form.   Only the pure love of a young man can remove the curse.  Astonished by her beauty and full of love for Odette, Siegfried’s love will destroy evil powers.  Von Rothbart suddenly appears in the form of an owl, beckoning menacingly to Odette.  As dawn breaks, the lovers bid farewell.  Odette returns to the lake, resuming her guise as a swan and Rothbart plots to make the Prince break his vow.

A C T  T H R E E

The entire court is assembled for Siegfried’s betrothal Ball, where the invited Princesses and their families eagerly await the decision of the Prince.  The Prince’s aunt indicates he is to choose a bride from the maidens present, but none pleases him.  The young Prince’s mind is still filled with images of the beautiful Odette. Mindful of his vow of Fidelity, he pays little attention to the eligible young women with whom he is presented.  Suddenly, a fanfare announces the arrival of two new guests.  It is Von Rothbart disguised as a nobleman with his daughter Odile.

The Prince stands transfixed by her likeness to Odette and overwhelmed by the unexpected appearance of his true love, he asks her to dance.  Odile so bewitches the Prince that he asks for her hand in marriage.  Convinced he is with his beloved Odette, he declares his fidelity in front of all present.  Triumphantly, Von Rothbart and Odile reveal themselves.  The Prince realizes too late that he is a victim of their cruel treachery.  Odette has been betrayed and now can never be released from her enchantment.  In despair, the Prince runs to the lake to search for her.

Moscow City Center, Kremlin

The treasury of our Moscow panoramas is gradually increasing.

We have already been shooting aerial panoramas for 6 years. During this period of time we shot many interesting cities of the world: New York, Amsterdam, Kuala Lumpur, Sidney, Miami, Las Vegas, Rio de Janeiro, Dubai, Los Angeles and many others. However, we didn't succeed in shooting Moscow, the city we live in, though we did our best. The case is the flights over Moscow are forbidden except those of Russian Federation Ministry of Civil Defense and Emergency Response and Russian police. Taking in consideration these administrative restrictions we applied our creativity and resolved this problem by the following:

1) We made a virtual tour over Moscow Encircling Highway :  MEH and Interchanges

2) Yauza, Ramenki, Southern Port

3) In May 2010 near the Crocus-City the first in the world 1 gig pixel panorama was shot from the helicopter. It shows the Kremlin, the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, Novodevichiy Convent, the TV Tower of Ostankino and many other places of interest.

4) This sphere shot from the height of 1000 m which shows most part of Moscow and regions.

5) Last spring we have shot the panorama of Novodevichiy Convent

6) We have done a virtual tour over Moscow State University

7) Earlier this year we have done a fabulous panoramas of Moscow City business center

8) One of Moscow City panoramas has been converted into stereo format

9) We have created a  giga pixel panorama of the center of Moscow

Also it is worth to view one of the photos by Sergey Semenov devoted to the rehearsal of the Victory Parade of May 9.

It had success on the exhibition  World Seen by the Russians  held in Moscow, on Tverskoy Boulevard in May-June 2011.

And now we would like to introduce a virtual tour around Moscow Kremlin.

Moscow from Above

Moscow is without question one of the world's most important cities.  It's been the capital of  Russia since 1918 when it reclaimed the capital status from St. Petersburg following the Bolshevik Revolution.  This city on the Moscow River is now not only one of the great cities of Europe , it's the actually the center of the largest metropolitan area on the continent, and it's the only Alpha City in Eastern Europe .  Occupying a strategic position with respect to Russia's vast system of rivers , Moscow is a city which was destined for greatness by virtue of geography.  Its skyline is graced by the spires of the Kremlin, famous Eastern Orthodox churches and monasteries , gleaming skyscrapers of the Moscow City financial district (home to five of the seven tallest skyscrapers in Europe as of 2019), and the magnificent Moscow State University, the world's tallest college campus building.  Here are the best drone videos of magnificent Moscow, the host city for the 1980 Summer Olympics.  Aerial photo: " On the Moscow River " by AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Videosnebe .

Top contributor pushkinflyteam brings us this incredible albeit shocking drone video from Moscow as Europe's largest city was virtually shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic in the Spring of 2020. This DVOW nominated film opens with a shot looking toward the ultra-modern Moscow City skyscraper district.  Starting at about 1:20 there's a shot flying over the nearly-empty Krymsky Bridge, and at 3:35 you'll see the Church of Christ the Savior.  This video earned a nomination in the Lockdown category at the NYCDFF.

Check out this jaw-dropping drone video of holiday-festooned Moscow, Russia by new AirVuz contributor pushkinflyteam.  The video opens with an epic shot of the Kremlin and the adjacent St. Basil's Cathedral, the aesthetic heart of Europe's largest city.  The focus of much of the rest of the video is in and around Red Square, the city's largest public gathering place.  Located just north of the Kremlin, the square takes on an almost other-worldly look during the Christmas season, replete with a giant ice-skating rink.

Former DVOW Finalist nikybwd brings us this excellent "four season" drone video of the great city of Moscow, Russia.  The video opens with some shots looking towards the Kremlin and Red Square.  At the :11 mark, you'll soar past the massive Ostankino transmission tower.  At the :16 mark, there's a great shot looking over a gold-domed church towards the skyscrapers of the Moscow International Business Center.  Other featured locations include the Zhivopisniy Bridge (:21), the Lenin Statue at VDNKh (:39), VTB Arena (:42), and more.

Moscow in winter, moscow: the desperation of winter.

The title of this video, "Desperation of Moscow in Winter" is evocative of the evacuation of Napoleon's starved Grand Armee from the Russian city in the winter of 1812 and the stopping of Adolph Hitler's Wehrmacht just outside the gates of the city in the famously cold winter of 1941. Award-winning contributor Timelab.pro shot this amazing aerial tour of Moscow in the frigid winter of 2017-18. Shot with a DJI Inspire 2 drone carrying a Zenmuse X7 camera, it is nothing short of an aerial masterpiece.

"Moscow City" is the informal name for the Moscow International Business Center, a newer commercial district of the Russian capital city known for its towering skyscrapers.  Contributor MichaelMsk77 used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to create this beautiful video of the modern district.  At about the :17 mark, you'll ride along for a climb up to the top of these behemoths.  Here are five of Europe's seven tallest buildings as of 2018, the group's tallest  being the 95 story, 374 meter (a bit over 1.2k ft.) Contributor Valius Video used a drone to create this bird's eye view of the New Jerusalem Monastery, which is not located anywhere near Israel.  Rather, it is in metropolitan Moscow, the great Russian capital city.  It was built in the 17th century on a site which was (vaguely) reminiscent of the "real" Jerusalem.  The monastery was heavily damaged by invading German troops in late 1941, marking very nearly the furthest advance made by Germany during that campaign before being driven back.

Largest catholic church in russia, the cathedral of the immaculate conception of the holy virgin mary, contributor and pilot valius video created this beautiful drone video of the largest catholic church in russia.  the cathedral of the immaculate conception in this heavily eastern orthodox country was conceived and built during the last days of the tsarist empire.  it was closed in 1938 during the height of stalin's persecution of all forms of organized religion, and re-opened as a church a few years after the soviet union dissolved in 1991.  it's one of three roman catholic churches in the moscow area.  , diving moscow's skyscrapers, moscow city fpv dives #2.

Moscow International Business Center (sometimes called Moscow City) is the Russian capital's swank new business district which lies west of the core city.  In recent years, it has become the skyscraper capital of Europe: as of early 2019, it is home to six of the ten tallest buildings in Europe.  The allure of its gleaming towers has caught the eye of top FPV pilots like contributor craig_dt; in this video you will see him take on the tallest of them in an epic FPV skyscraper diving session.

Ruined manor outside moscow, ruins of "grebnevo" manor.

Prior to the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917, the city of Moscow was the home of many of Russia's greatest noble families.   Three of the best known families, the Galitzine, Trubetskoy, and Bibikov clans, also had country homes in the area of Grebnovo, within the Shchyolkovsky District just to the northwest of central Moscow.  In this drone video from Vizaero, you'll get a bird's eye view of one of these great manors, which was the site of several fires in recent decades and is currently in a ruined state.

Dynamo central stadium, lev yashin 90 years, moscow's vtb stadium is one of the city's main sporting venues.  it includes both a football stadium and a hockey arena.  opened in late 2018 at a cost of about us$1.5 billion, it's built on the site of the old dynamo stadium northwest of the center city, just outside the second ring road.  the stadium's "official" capacity is 27k, although it can be adjusted to accommodate as many as 45k fans; the ice arena can hold between 12-15k fans depending on configuration.  you can check out the modern marvel from above in this drone video by nikybwd., aerial tour of post-communist moscow, new moscow 2018 by dji mavic pro, over the last 25 years, no european city has changed as much as moscow.  despite the dislocation caused by the collapse of the soviet union and the financial crisis which engulfed russia in the late 1990's, the capital city has grown enormously and emerged as a leading international business center.  while much attention has been focused on the skyscrapers of its moscow city district, many of the city's districts have been nearly as transformed.  in this drone video by moscopterr, you'll get a bird's eye view of the "new moscow".  , ostankino tower, ice-bound ostankino tower by pushkin fly team moscow 2021.

Giant moscow residential project, moscow solntsevo residential complex, as moscow has emerged as a leading international business center, it has struggled to provide adequate housing for its population.  perennially short of housing in the soviet years, the problem has in many respects grown worse with the advent of capitalist russia: it's the main reason why moscow is now one of the world's most expensive cities.  in this video by moscopterr, you'll get a bird's eye view at a giant new housing complex called solntsevo on the outskirts of the great city, now europe's largest. , the chertanovo area of southern moscow.
