As personal vehicles begin to transition more and more to electric, so will commercial vehicles. Many big names in the commercial or business sectors have added electric vehicles to their fleet for last-mile delivery services, including Amazon, IKEA, PepsiCo, and even the United States Postal Service.

In order to help businesses make this green transition Ford introduced an electric version of its popular cargo van. The all-electric 2022 E-Transit is on sale now and is the third all-electric offering from the brand.

Models & Pricing

The 2022 Ford E-Transit is the first of two all-electric vehicles purpose-built for Ford Pro commercial customers in 2022. It features a steel unibody construction and is the only all-electric cargo van from a full-line automaker.

Buyers can choose from three roof heights and three body lengths on the cargo van model, just like the gas-powered version. There is also a cutaway version and a chassis cab version, for a total of three models with eight possible configurations.

The chassis cab and cutaway models can be further customized with the addition of vocational bodies. The cargo van model can be customized with equipment like ladder racks and interior bulkhead and storage solutions.

The E-Transit starts at $47,990 for the cutaway version, $48,520 for the chassis cab model and $51,880 for the cargo van version.

Driving Range & Battery

Ford leveraged more than 30 million miles of Ford Pro Telematics data to calculate the average daily driving range for commercial vans in the United States – 74 miles. Armed with that data, Ford designed an electric cargo van that boasts an anticipated range of 126 miles (Cargo Van low-roof models).

The fully electric powertrain features a single-speed transmission and a rear-wheel-drive electric motor that produces 266 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. The E-Transit’s 68-kWh liquid-cooled battery pack is located underneath the vehicle body to allow for the maximum amount of cargo space inside the van.

The heavy-duty independent rear-wheel drive suspension system was specifically created to help improve traction and provide a smoother ride when you have the maximum payload.

2022 Ford E-Transit charging at home

Charging at Home

The E-Transit offers a variety of charging solutions for charging at home. The Ford Mobile Charger, which is included with the purchase of the vehicle, can use either a standard home 120V outlet for three miles of range per charging hour, or a 240V outlet for 20 miles of range per charging hour. Using the 240V outlet will charge the E-Transit from 0-100% in about 11 hours.

To maximize your charge at home, customers can purchase the Ford Connected Charge Station with up to 48 amps of charging power. The Station offers the fastest Level 2 charge for the E-Transit with 15 miles per charging hour. Wi-Fi can be used for remote access control capabilities.

Charging on the Go

Ford connects its electric vehicle drivers to the BlueOval Charge Network, which has more than 19,500 charging stations with 63,000 plugs and growing.

Using 115 kW DC fast charging, the E-Transit can charge from approximately 15% to 80% in 34 minutes. Ford also offers central billing for public charging, providing customers with access to the network without needing to download multiple apps for different charging providers.

Using the "Power My Trip" feature on the FordPass app, you can see which charging stations are available and the cost to charge.

Interior Features

To make the transition from gasoline to electric easier, Ford ensured that the E-Transit has the same interior cargo dimensions and most of the same mounting points as the Transit. Buyers can also order the E-Transit directly from the factory with work-ready accessories such as bulkheads and shelving.

E-Transit owners are also able to work with the approximately 300 qualified upfitters in the U.S., including 13 that are located within 30 miles of the plant in Kansas City, Mo., where the E-Transit is assembled.

The E-Transit has a functional interior featuring a center console with an integrated rotary shifter. There is plenty of head- and legroom, and users have the ability to walk through the van.

Onboard Power

The Ford E-Transit isn't just a delivery van, it's a vehicle meant for all commercial purposes, including jobs that require power. The optional Pro Power Onboard2 provides up to 2.4 kilowatts of power, eliminating the need for a generator. It's enough to charge and power equipment needed on job sites, including power tools such as saws, drills and jackhammers, as well as laptops, scanners and tablets.

The Power Onboard2 works while the vehicle is being driven, making it easy to keep tools powered from job to job.

Ford offers its Ford Pro E-Telematics complimentary for three years on the E-Transit. To help maximize battery life, drivers are able to use this service to set climate control to a desired temperature within the cabin while the vehicle is still plugged in. Additionally, users can use this platform to pay for public charging centrally and to reimburse employees for home charging.

While available as a standalone feature, Ford Pro E-Telematics also integrates with Ford Pro Telematics, allowing a mixed fleet of electric vehicles with standard internal combustion vehicles. The entire fleet can be managed via the same dashboard. In a smart move by Ford, the program is also compatible with vehicles made by other manufacturers using a plug-in device. This allows companies to manage an entire fleet of mixed vehicles from the Ford Pro application.

The Ford E-Transit comes standard with safety features including lane keep assist and pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking. Available features that do not come standard include blind spot monitoring, reverse emergency braking and a 360-degree camera.

Additionally, the E-Transit works with Ford Pro Intelligence In-Vehicle Coaching for real-time driver coaching delivered through the SYNC 4 voice assistant. If a driver exceeds a speed limit, leaves the vehicle on while parked, doesn't fasten a seatbelt, rapidly accelerates or brakes harshly, they will receive an in-vehicle audio message that asks them to correct their behavior.

Fleet managers can receive a driver score for individual drivers to help identify drivers who may require additional training.

The E-Transit also comes with Ford Co-Pilot360 technology, which includes available adaptive cruise control with speed sign recognition and intelligent speed assist.

Additional Technology

The E-Transit comes with Ford's SYNC 4 communications and entertainment technology. This includes a standard 12-inch touch screen, enhanced voice recognition and available built-in navigation. SYNC features and E-Transit software are kept up-to-date with Ford Power-Up Software Updates without a trip to the dealership.

Subscription services such as Ford Pro E-Telematics can be accessed by activating the E-Transit van’s standard 4G LTE modem.

Additionally, to help improve energy usage, automatic engine idle shutdown services with Ford's Smart Acceleration Truncation are available on the E-Transit. This can help fleet managers improve driver behavior by limiting acceleration speeds based on auto calculations of the payload.

Ford's Electric Future

Ford's E-Transit is part of a more than $30 billion investment in electrification through 2025. Ford already offers the all-electric Mustang Mach-E , and the all-electric F-150 Lightning recently began production.

Ford's ultimate goal is to achieve carbon neutrality globally by 2050. It is working to reduce CO2 emissions in line with the Paris Climate Agreement and with the state of California for stronger vehicle greenhouse gas standards.

As cities and countries around the world pledge to reduce emissions, Ford is dedicated to making sure the commercial side of the automotive industry doesn't get left behind. The E-Transit helps move toward that future while working alongside existing gas and diesel fleets.

Ford just opened orders for its enhanced-range E-Transit

Avatar for Michelle Lewis

Ford Pro is now taking orders for the newest version of its commercial EV, the E-Transit, with up to 32% more range and faster charge times.

The 2024 E-transit ‘s larger 89 kWh battery (up from 67 kWh) provides an estimated range of up to 159 miles. Ford says that makes it capable of new use cases such as refrigerated delivery.

2 el ford transit journey

The enhanced E-Transit also features dual onboard chargers that deliver a 22% faster charge time using Ford Pro’s 80A Series 2 charger and Ford Pro charging software. So, charging at Level 2 brings it from zero to fully charged in just over six hours, making it ideal for overnight charging.

The E-Transit also has improved DC charging, with 176 kW charging capability, up from 115kW. As my colleague Jameson Dow explained in March , “When connected to a suitably quick charger, this means a 2024 E-Transit (low roof model) can get 67 miles of range in 15 minutes, an improvement of 49% over the previous model.” All new E-Transits will have access to Ford’s new NACS adapter in addition to its CCS port.

They went from 126 to 159 the trend is good, but we do need about 250 for AZ tradesmen. We are a rural state, with LOTS of travel for construction. Yes, there are some niche opportunities, and 150 will work for 33 miles more than 126 - but there is a reason these things sell in the low thousands (done right, this would be a top seller globally - when they hit 250+ mile range for $50k, they will be there. Maybe 2025's bump will be more notable? 26% sounds promising, but it is off a tiny base. The objective milestone for getting tradesmen to move is 250 or more, without insane pricing.

Ford offers the E-transit in two lengths, three roof heights, three body styles, and up to 487 cubic feet of cargo volume.

The latest iteration of the US’s best-selling commercial EV costs $1,100 more than 2023’s base price. So before destination fees, the 2024 enhanced E-Transit’s price starts at $51,095. But it qualifies for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit, which brings its price down to $43,595, excluding possible state and utility incentives. Ford E-Transit orders can be placed through a Ford dealer.

DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 12, 2020  – Ford, the world’s cargo van leader 1 , introduces the 2022 E-Transit van, a smart workhorse that will offer customers enhanced productivity enabled by its fully electric powertrain, software solutions, services and Pro Power Onboard options.

“Ford is North America and Europe’s commercial truck and van leader, so the transition of fleet vehicles to zero emissions, especially for the fast-growing last-mile delivery segment, is critical to achieve our carbon neutrality goal by 2050,” said Jim Farley, Ford president and CEO. “Ford is ready to lead the charge, starting with the all-electric Transit and all-electric F-150 on the way. This is good for the planet and a huge advantage for customers to help lower their operating costs and provide connected fleet management technologies that will help their businesses.”

The all-new E-Transit is backed by  Ford’s powerhouse network of 1,800-plus global commercial vehicle dealers, including 645 commercial vehicle centers across the U.S. – about 90 percent of which are electric vehicle-certified – for easy sales and service.

E-Transit offers the same interior cargo dimensions and standard mounting points for continued integration with hundreds of upfitters and vehicle modifiers worldwide who provide compatible racks, bins and accessories on gas-powered Transit. The majority of U.S. Transit vehicles sold last year were upfitted, and Ford continues to provide the same upfit financing support for van customers, including those who purchase or lease. With 13 upfitters located conveniently within 30 miles of the assembly plant, customers get fast delivery to the upfitter of their choice right when they order their van, removing the need for an upfit after delivery and helping them get on the road quickly.

While most newcomers in the van business are still building prototypes, developing testing protocols and addressing difficult usage conditions, Ford’s commercial vehicle ecosystem is expanding to include electric vehicle monitoring software and connected solutions for fleets to seamlessly integrate into day-to-day operations.

“We are doubling down on software and digital services to help our fleet customers grow and more efficiently run their businesses,” said Farley.

Ford – which is the leading commercial vehicle brand in North America and Europe – has been making Transit family vehicles for 55 years and commercial vehicles since 1905. The company will assemble E-Transit for North American customers at Kansas City Assembly Plant in Claycomo, Missouri.

Driving to go greener

Cities around the world – from  London  to  Los Angeles  – are pledging to create emissions-free zones to improve air quality, reduce greenhouse gas levels and improve noise pollution. California has also  mandated  that all new cars and passenger trucks sold in the state be zero-emission vehicles by 2035.

“More construction, emergency vehicles and utility services choose Ford commercial trucks and vans over any other manufacturer 2  – and we’re committed to helping customers make the transition to zero-emission technology,” said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford chief product platform operations officer. “E-Transit is a data-rich, connected platform that will help our fleet customers unlock greater productivity. The value for our commercial customers grows over time as more connected vehicles join the network.”

E-Transit is part of a Ford investment in electrification of more than $11.5 billion through 2022. The all-new, all-electric Mustang Mach-E begins arriving later this year, while the all-electric F-150 starts hitting dealers in mid-2022. In North America,  Ford is the first full-line automaker to announce plans to produce both an all-electric full-size pickup truck and a full-size van for customers – including fleet owners.

Ford intends to achieve carbon neutrality globally by 2050. It is the only full-line U.S. automaker committed to doing its part to reduce CO 2  emissions in line with the Paris Climate Agreement and working with California for stronger vehicle greenhouse gas standards.

E-Transit will not only help companies operate with the benefits of electrification, it offers clear business advantages. Scheduled maintenance costs for the all-electric Transit are estimated to be 40 percent less than the average scheduled maintenance costs for a gas-powered 2020 Transit over eight years/100,000 miles 3 . And with lower maintenance requirements and the opportunity to avoid fill-ups, companies can improve customer uptime and productivity.

Range, charging solutions tailored for business

E-Transit is a smart workhorse for North American cities, with targeted range designed to fulfill fleet needs based on insight from 30 million miles of customer telematics data – and at a price that makes it easy to switch to electric. With a usable battery capacity of 68 kilowatt-hours, E-Transit has an available targeted range of 126 miles 4 in the low-roof cargo van configuration. The E-Transit has a starting MSRP 5  under $45,000 for U.S. fleet customers – and comes backed with an eight-year, 100,000-mile electric vehicle component warranty 6 .

“This makes E-Transit ideal for commercial customers who know their drive routes and often work in urban environments,” said Ted Cannis, Ford North America general manager of commercial business. “Affordability is key, and our customers buy only what they need to get the job done. E-Transit provides ample range at a price that makes the transition to electric easy. And Ford is just getting started.”

Ford will offer a variety of charging solutions to fit fleet and driver needs, whether at home, at a place of business or on the road. E-Transit comes with access to North America’s largest public charging network – providing drivers with seamless public payment capability and providing fleet managers with central account and billing management.

E-Transit features both AC and DC fast charging, coming standard with a Ford Mobile Charger that can plug into a normal 120-volt outlet for slow and steady charging or into a 240-volt outlet for faster charging. Those seeking the fastest home charging solution can purchase the Ford Connected Charge Station, which can fully charge E-Transit in eight hours 7 .

On a 115-plus-kilowatt DC fast charger, E-Transit cargo van low-roof models can achieve approximately 30 miles of range in 10 minutes and approximately 45 miles of range in 15 minutes 8 . When plugged into a 240-volt outlet, E-Transit cargo van low-roof models achieve approximately 10 miles per charging hour using the Ford Mobile Charger. Employing a Ford Connected Charge Station brings the number up to approximately 15 miles per charging hour 7 .

More power, connectivity on the go

E-Transit features optional Pro Power Onboard, which provides up to 2.4 kilowatts of power for North American customers to transform the vehicle into a mobile generator that powers tools and equipment on job sites and on the go. That’s enough capability to power everything from belt sanders to circular saws.

When activated 9 , the standard 4G LTE modem unlocks available data subscriptions and delivers seamless connectivity to help commercial vehicle customers manage and optimize fleet efficiency. A range of dedicated electric vehicle services are available through Ford Commercial Solutions, including electric vehicle data enhancements from Ford Telematics and Ford Data Services 10 .

Remote services like vehicle pre-conditioning – which optimizes cabin temperatures while E-Transit is plugged in to optimize battery efficiency – are also available, as well as charging reports that enable fleet managers to reimburse drivers who bring their vans home in the evening.

E-Transit also brings SYNC ®  4 communications and entertainment technology 11  to commercial vehicles, featuring a standard 12-inch touch screen that’s easy to use, plus enhanced voice recognition and cloud-enhanced navigation. With SYNC over-the-air updates, E-Transit software and SYNC features will stay at the forefront of performance.

On the road with navigation enabled, fleet operators can benefit from new Ford Co-Pilot360 ™  technology such as available Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Speed Sign Recognition and Intelligent Speed Assist, which together identify speed limits and automatically change the vehicle speed accordingly.

E-Transit also features additional standard Ford Co-Pilot360 technologies designed to help fleet customers reduce driver-based insurance claims, including Lane-Keeping System and Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking. Available features include Blind Spot Information System with Blind Spot Assist, a 360-degree camera and Reverse Brake Assist. These features can help maintain fleet driving standards and help improve driver confidence.

Delivered with the capability Transit customers love

Designed for uncompromised cargo capacity, the E-Transit battery is located underneath the vehicle body, providing up to 487.3 cubic feet of cargo space inside the high-roof, extended-wheelbase configuration.

Ford engineers redesigned E-Transit’s rear-wheel drive and rear suspension to optimize cargo space, creating a heavy-duty semi-trailing arm suspension system enabling better steering precision and more confident handling, plus better traction both in laden and unladen conditions.

For E-Transit cargo vans in the U.S., Ford is offering a maximum payload of 3,880 pounds, and up to 4,428 pounds for cutaway versions – with a powerful electric motor targeting 266 horsepower/198 kilowatts of power and 317 lb.-ft. of torque across all configurations. Fleet owners will have the capability they need to get the job done.

In the U.S., E-Transit is available with a choice of three roof heights and three body lengths, as well as in cargo, cutaway and chassis cab versions.

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .
