• Hebra Tower

This page explains how to find and activate Hebra Tower in Hyrule in Breath of the Wild.

How to Find the Tower

How to climb the tower.

Bring a heat source with you, such as a flame weapon, or some wood and flint.

You will also need protection from the cold, so be sure to either buy the Snowquill armor from Rito Village , or bring food or elixirs that increase cold resistance.

From Akh Va'quot Shrine , go to the stable east of the village and take out a horse if you have one. Then go east on the road from the stable. The road goes past Hebra Tower.

The tower is surrounded by large chunks of ice that you can't climb. Use either a flame weapon or a campfire (hit flint with a metal weapon near a bundle of wood) to melt the ice. The tower has many platforms, so after you get rid of some of the ice, it is easy to climb.

Hebra Tower BOTW location & how to activate

  • last updated April 6, 2023

Josh Chambers

hebra tower botw

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is an expansive open-world adventure that invites players to explore the vast kingdom of Hyrule, solve puzzles, and uncover hidden secrets. One essential element of the game is climbing and activating Sheikah Towers, which reveal portions of the map and serve as fast travel points.

In this article, we’ll focus on the Hebra Tower, a challenging landmark in the frigid Hebra region of Hyrule, and provide a guide to help you reach and activate this crucial tower.

Table of Contents

Where to find Hebra Tower BOTW

Before embarking on your journey to the Hebra Tower, it’s crucial to prepare for the harsh, snowy environment of the Hebra region. Cold resistance is a must, as the freezing temperatures can quickly sap your health if you’re not properly equipped. Here are some tips to help you stay warm:

Wear cold-resistant gear

cold resistance clothes breath of the wild

Acquire the Warm Doublet, Snowquill Headdress, Snowquill Tunic, and Snowquill Trousers. These items provide essential protection from the cold and can be purchased or obtained through various quests.

Cook cold-resistant food

Prepare dishes that grant temporary cold resistance by combining ingredients like Spicy Peppers, Sunshrooms, or Sizzlefin Trout.

Use flame weapons

Equipping weapons with a fire attribute, such as the Flameblade or Fire Rod, can also help stave off the cold.

Hebra Tower is situated in the northwest region of Hyrule, surrounded by icy cliffs and treacherous terrain. To locate the tower, you can start your journey from the Rito Village in the Tabantha region. From there, head westward into the Hebra Mountains, keeping an eye out for the glowing orange tower in the distance. As you traverse the snowy landscape, be prepared to face enemies like Ice Chuchus and Frost Pebblits, as well as dangerous wildlife like Cold-Footed Wolves.

How to activate Hebra Tower BOTW

Once you’ve located Hebra Tower, you’ll need to navigate a series of obstacles to reach its base. The tower is surrounded by a plethora of ice blocks, making a direct approach impossible. To overcome this challenge, follow these steps:

Acquire a Fire Source

To melt the ice blocks, you’ll need a source of heat. Fire arrows, flame weapons such as the Flameblade, Fire Rod, or even a Torch can be used to generate heat. Fire arrows can be found in various locations around Hyrule, purchased from merchants, or crafted by combining regular arrows with fire-based materials like Red Chuchu Jelly.

Approach the Ice Blocks

Make your way to the base of Hebra Tower, taking care to avoid the freezing water surrounding it. The ice blocks will be clearly visible, obstructing the path to the tower.

Melt the Ice Blocks

melting ice hebra tower botw

Equip your fire source and aim at the ice blocks. If using fire arrows, take careful aim and shoot the arrow directly at the ice. If using a flame weapon or torch, approach the ice block and hold the weapon close to the ice. As the fire source makes contact with the ice, you’ll see it begin to melt. Keep the fire source close to the ice until it has melted entirely, clearing a path to the tower.

Create a Safe Path

Depending on the layout of the ice blocks, you may need to melt several of them to create a safe path to Hebra Tower. Be patient and methodical, ensuring that you have enough fire arrows or fuel for your flame weapon to clear the way.

Conserve Resources

If you’re running low on fire arrows or the durability of your flame weapon is dwindling, look for alternative heat sources in the environment. You can create a fire using flint and wood, or ignite nearby objects like grass or crates to generate heat. Position these improvised fires near the ice blocks to melt them.

Now you can climb the tower. Upon reaching the summit of Hebra Tower, you’ll find the Sheikah Slate pedestal. Activate the pedestal to reveal the map of the Hebra region, complete with topography, shrines, and landmarks. Additionally, the tower will now serve as a fast travel point, allowing you to return to the Hebra region with ease.

climbing hebra tower botw

All in all, conquering Hebra Tower in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a thrilling and rewarding experience. By preparing for the cold, navigating treacherous terrain, and overcoming the obstacles surrounding the tower, you’ll gain access to valuable map information and a crucial fast travel point

The Rito warriors use their wings to shoot arrows from the sky. Anyone can try out this unique fighting style at the Flight Range on the north side of the village. Fly through the air riding on the updraft, and shoot a series of targets. Try to shoot them all for the perfect score.

The Forgotten Temple

Reminisce about Hyrule's past

Since Hebra is covered in snow and difficult for people to visit, there are still a number of ancient ruins lying undisturbed. Visiting the ruins while thinking about ancient times is one of the best ways to enjoy Hebra.

Endless Guardians block your way in a mysterious  temple

In Tanagar Canyon, which separates Hebra from central Hyrule, there's a hidden Forgotten Temple. Even now there are countless Guardians roaming this temple. It is considered to be a facility related to the hero.

Ancient Columns

Ancient Columns

Ruins visited by Princess Zelda

In Tabantha Frontier, in the south of Hebra, you can find some ruins with a series of ancient stone columns reaching up to the sky. From the shape of the columns, it's thought to be remains from the same ancient civilization as the Forgotten Temple, but the details remain shrouded in mystery. It's said that even Princess Zelda came to investigate them.

North Lomei Labyrinth

North Lomei Labyrinth

A treasure hidden in a great labyrinth

Mysterious ruins of a huge castle found in the north of Hebra. The inside is designed like a labyrinth, and there are rumors of a hidden treasure.

What to do when you have no chance against a Guardian

Countless Guardians roam the Forgotten Temple even now. By holding your shield up at the right moment, you can reflect the rain of powerful lasers coming at you from all directions. If you're confident in your skills, maybe you can have some fun seeing how many you can reflect in a row?

What to do when you have no chance against a Guardian

Introducing some activities specific to the snowy Hebra Region. You'll want to give them a try, even if it means a little detour.

Shield Surfing - Ride your shield, and try to slide down the mountain as fast as you can. You can also get lessons from Selmie, a former pro shield surfer. Become one with the winds of Hebra, and experience a thrill like no other.

  • Location: Selmie's lodge, Mt. Hebra
  • Opening hours: 24/7
  • Price: 20 rupees per try (including coaching fee)

Glide down the snow-covered slopes

Snowball Bowling - Roll a snowball, and try to knock over pins. According to Pondo, the guide, the moment when all the pins fall at once is an amazing feeling.

  • Location: Pondo's cabin, near the Tabantha Village Ruins
  • Price: 20 rupees per try

Perhaps because of the harsh environment with blizzards and freezing temperatures, Hebra is home to many formidable enemies. So it's perfect to challenge your abilities.

In Coldsnap Hollow, near Hebra East Summit, lives an ice monster called Frost Talus. Its whole body is made of ice, so not only will you freeze if you touch it, but its tough body is resistant to attacks, making it a tough enemy. However, it does seem to have a weakness with heat.

KEY POINT

Build bonfires in advance, and each time Frost Talus touches one, it will get knocked down. This will give you more chances to aim for its weak spot, giving you an advantage.

VS Frost Talus

One of the appeals of Hebra is the cuisine that can only be tasted in this region, using plenty of ingredients you can only find in the cold. Among them, dishes using the valuable Hearty Salmon and desserts made with the Wildberries that grow in Hebra are exquisite.

Mystery of a Stalhorse

Mystery of a Stalhorse

Rumor has it that Stalhorse, a skeleton horse, appears in North Tabantha Snowfield or North Lomei Labyrinth. There have been no photographs, so the accounts are hard to believe—what is the true story?

Gigantic fossil from time immemorial

Gigantic fossil from time immemorial

In a cave in the north of Hebra Mountain, a gigantic whale fossil was found. Some are investigating the ground believing that there are two more whale fossils in Hyrule, and there are high hopes for further discoveries.

White Pigeon

Animals thriving in the severe environment of Hebra with extremely cold temperatures have undergone peculiar evolution. The White Pigeon, white as snow, the Snowcoat Fox, with beautiful blue hair, and the Cold-Footed Wolf, with a bluish tone—perhaps they have colors similar to snow or ice so that they can hide from their predators.

Tabantha Moose

The Tabantha Moose, originally from Tabantha, and the Great-Horned Rhinoceros, adapted to snowy mountains, among others, might attack you using their impressive horns as weapons, so you have to be careful when watching them. In Tabantha Tundra and Sturnida Secret Hot Spring, the fearsome predator, the Grizzlemaw Bear, has been sighted.

zelda botw tour de hebra

Hebra is a cold region with the lowest temperatures in all of Hyrule. There's no shortage of travelers who get into difficulties due to underestimating the cold. It's essential to take proper precautions, such as bringing warm clothing, as well as medicine and food that can warm you up.

Recommended warm outfit

If you dress too lightly…

If you dress too lightly…

Selmie, resident of Mt. Hebra:

Our recommended outfit is the Rito Feather Shirt, made by the Rito for Hyrulians visiting Hebra. It's excellent at keeping in warmth, packed with plenty of down feather shed by the Rito.

Recommended warm outfit

Warm yourself from the inside with food and medicine

The safest way to fight the cold is to wrap up warm. However, even if you are underequipped, you can withstand the cold for a while with medicine or food that warms you up when you eat it.

Hebra Trailhead Lodge

TotK Hebra Trailhead Lodge.jpg

Hebra Trailhead Lodge is a location in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom .

  • 1.1 Selmie's Notes
  • 2.1 Tulin of Rito Village
  • 2.2 Korok Seed

The Hebra Trailhead Lodge is located directly north of Rito Village , and it is the end of the pathway marked on the map. From the Lodge there are ladders leading up to the Rospro Pass , which has a steady incline as it leads up to the Hebra Mountains .

Inside of the lodge there are plenty of materials to prepare Link for the adventure into the Hebra mountains. There is some Wood as well as some Flint , which in combination, can create a Campfire . There are also some barrels that can be broken, where Link will find a Stamella Shroom , Spicy Pepper , and Icy Meat . Link can also sleep in the bed found at the lodge, free of charge. The treasure chest at the lodge has a Meteor Rod , which is very effective against ice-based enemies found on the mountain.

Just outside of the lodge there is a campfire with a traveler sitting down. The traveler is actually a Yiga Footsoldier , who will attack Link if he talks to him.

Selmie's Notes

In the cabin, there is a notebook on the desk, written by Selmie . She explains the dangers of the Hebra Mountain and that any visitor should take precaution. She mentions that throughout the mountain, there are some flags planted. At each of these flags, there are some goods that Selmie has left to help people survive in the harsh conditions.

Other adventurers have chimed in and added some of his own notes in the notebook. One adventurer is a Shield Surfer who has a romantic interest in Selmie. Another thanks Selmie for leaving the food as it saved his life.

Tears of the Kingdom

The Hebra Trailhead Lodge serves as a point for both Link and the Rito to prepare for ascending the Hebra Mountains . There are several Rito posted here while another group has gone ahead. Nekk stands guard near the entrance and Misa can be found in the storage with items can be picked up. Amali and Harth can be found inside the Lodge itself. Additionally, the lodge contains a Rito Records book which details history of the Rito and the Stormwind Ark.

Just south of the lodge, Addison can be found holding up a Hudson Sign . Link can user the nearby Hyrule Restoration Materials to hold up the sign. As a reward, Addison will give Link a Red Rupee , some Biting Meaty Rice Balls , and a Bomb Flower .

Tulin of Rito Village

As part of the Tulin of Rito Village main quest, Link will travel to the lodge to meet with Harth. Hart guides Link in the direction that Tulin has traveled. He encourages Link to climb the cliff just outside and head up the trail towards the bonfire in the distance. This marks the entrance of the Hebra South Summit Cave where Tulin was last spotted entering.

  • On top of the roof of the lodge, Link can examine the sparkling lights near the chimney to get the Korok Seed .

Features and Overview [ ]

Breath of the wild [ ].

Hebra is a vast Region covering the northwestern corner of Hyrule . The Region is very mountainous but also has vast expanses of flat terrain. Hebra is made up of three smaller areas: Hebra Mountains , Tabantha Frontier , and Tabantha Tundra . Both areas are roughly similar in size with Hebra Mountains covering most of the northern portion and Tabantha Frontier covering the southern portion of the Region.

The vast majority of northern Hebra is extremely cold, with Temperatures requiring 2 levels of Cold Resistance at all times. The Weather is often snowy and rarely sunny. Link can withstand the cold by consuming Spicy Elixirs or other spicy Food , or by equipping multiple pieces of Armor that grants Cold Resistance such as the Warm Doublet or the Snowquill Set .

Hebra Mountains [ ]

The Hebra Mountains are a very cold and mountainous area in the north of the Hebra Region with lots of peaks and summits to climb. It meets with the Eldin Mountains and the Great Hyrule Forest at its eastern corner. The area also has large snow-covered slopes, making it an ideal Shield Surfing location. Despite the extreme cold, the Hebra Mountains are littered with Hot Springs ; none of the remaining lakes have hazardously cold water, and the ones above ground are flanked with powerful updraft vents. A massive lake-filled subterranean chamber in the north is home to the Hebra Great Skeleton . Though the Hebra Mountains are mostly ruggedly mountainous, they are prominently broken in two by the low, flat Tabantha Tundra. The Tundra also connects with a relatively flat northeastern peninsula jutting out into the northern chasm where the North Lomei Labyrinth can be found.

Tabantha Frontier [ ]

The Tabantha Frontier forms the southern portion of the Hebra Region, and is home to most of its Hylian and Rito inhabitants including Rito Village . It is a geographically isolated region, surrounded by the deep rift-like Tanagar Canyon to the east and south, chasms bordering Hyrule to the west, and the Hebra Mountains to the north. The Tabantha Frontier's landscape is pockmarked by large craters as small as Gisa Crater to as massive as Lake Totori . The southern areas have a relatively mild alpine climate, while the parts adjacent to the Hebra Mountains have a climate just as bitterly cold as the mountains themselves. The Frontier also contains the Hebra Region's only hazardously cold bodies of water, flowing from the chilly Hebra Headspring through the Hebra Falls and upper Hebra Plunge into the warmer lower Hebra Plunge which, like all the lakes of the Hebra Mountains, manages to avoid being dangerously cold despite being mostly surrounded by bitterly cold shores.

Other Appearances [ ]

The Hebra Region shares its name with Mount Hebra , the Light World name for Death Mountain in the Japanese version of A Link to the Past .
