Why Tom Cruise 'Chooses Not To See' His Daughter 11 Years After Their Last Sighting Together

Tom Cruise’s relationship with his daughter, Suri Cruise, is a topic that has long-bewildered fans of the actor.

In the 2000s, Cruise and Katie Holmes were regularly blasted across tabloids with their daughter. But, following their divorce in 2012, Cruise’s public appearances with Suri were rare.

Here are all the details on Tom Cruise and Suri Cruise's relationship now.

Does Tom Cruise see Suri?

Rumors have circulated that Cruise's role in the Church of Scientology has complicated his relationship with his youngest child.

Tom Cruise has not been seen publicly with Suri since 2012 and is reportedly estranged from his daughter.

According to Us Weekly, it has been 11 years since the "Top Gun" star was seen publicly with Suri, who is now 16 — almost 17 — years old.

It is unclear whether he has seen or spoken to her behind closed doors but Page Six claims the star has not seen Suri since she was 7.

“If he wanted to see her, he could see her,” one source told Page Six . “Even people in prison have a right to see their children.”

Katie Holmes has custody of Suri but Cruise was given visitation rights.

The “Mission Impossible” actor and the “Dawson’s Creek” alum settled proceedings just 11 days after Holmes filed for divorce. Holmes was granted custody of their daughter.

Cruise was given visitation rights of 10 days per month but sources claim he opts not to see her.

“He chooses not to because she is not a Scientologist,” claimed an Us Weekly source in 2018.   Cruise reportedly pays over $33,000 per month in child support for Suri.

“He still loves her,” a source told Hollywood Life in 2019.

“Tom never intended to be estranged from his daughter when he decided to have a family with Katie and looks forward to repairing the relationship one day.”

Katie Holmes allegedly took Suri away from Tom Cruise to save her from Scientology.

Cruise is a member of the controversial Church of Scientology, a religious group often accused of being both a dangerous cult and a manipulative profit-making business.

Holmes also studied Scientology during their marriage but reportedly left Cruise to avoid becoming further entrenched in the group.

The actress now lives primarily in New York City with Suri, a relocation that may have helped her get her daughter out of the church.

In a 2013 libel suit against Bauer Media, whose magazines claimed he abandoned his daughter Suri Cruise, Cruise labeled the suggestion that Holmes divorced him "in part to protect Suri from Scientology" as “offensive.”

However, when asked if his ex-wife ever indicated that she left because of the religion or because she wanted to protect their daughter from Scientology, Cruise responded:

"Did she say that? That was one of the assertions, yes."

This likely means that Suri and Holmes have both been deemed a “Suppressive Person” by the church — a term Scientologists use to describe people who impede the progress of individual Scientologists or the Scientology movement.

Sources say that anyone who leaves the church is cut off from all members of the church, including their immediate family.

It is suspected that Holmes has been banned from speaking about Scientology.

The actress has never publicly spoken about her ex-husband’s religion nor why she left the church and critics of the group have suggested that she might be legally restricted from doing so.

Tony Ortega, former editor-in-chief of The Village Voice and a critic of Scientology, told Us Weekly that Holmes probably signed “some nondisclosure agreement saying she wouldn’t say anything bad about Scientology.”

“She wanted to get away and she wanted to get Suri,” Ortega explains.

He also suggested that she has been advised not to associate with Leah Remini, a fellow actress who has been outspoken about leaving the church.

“I’m sure her father, who’s a smart attorney, has probably told her that hanging out with Leah would be considered disparaging the church in the eyes of Tom and the church,” Ortega says.

Tom Cruise appears to have a relationship with the children he shares with Nicole Kidman.

Cruise also shares two adult children, Connor and Isabella, with ex-wife Nicole Kidman and, by all accounts, seems close with them. 

Both children, who were adopted by the former couple, recently promoted their father’s new movie, “Top Gun: Maverick” on their social media platforms.

Connor and Isabella are active members of the Church Of Scientology.

“They are adults," Kidman said about their faith in 2018. "They are able to make their own decisions. They have made choices to be Scientologists and as a mother, it’s my job to love them."

The reported rift between Tom Cruise and his daughter, Suri Cruise, began soon after his divorce from her mother, Katie Holmes, in 2012. Although Tom and Suri communicated over the short period that followed, the pair allegedly became more and more estranged.

Suri Cruise took her first breath on April 19, 2006, several months before her parents, actors Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, tied the knot. She was a healthy baby who weighed seven pounds and seven ounces and measured 20 inches in height.

During an interview, her dad gushed about her birth, saying it was everything he and Katie wanted it to be. The experience was etched in Tom's mind as he said he kept "reliving" it; the Scientologist felt it was "spiritual" and "powerful."

While Katie still carried the youngster, Tom had even acquired an ultrasound machine to use until after Suri's birth , though many medical experts advised against the purchase. He was committed to being part of Suri's life in her early years, but that changed after he lost her custody to Katie.

Suri Cruise Is a Budding New York Fashionista

The 16-year-old currently lives with her mom in New York City. The pair are often seen traveling together in the city, and it's clear Suri has adopted the actress's sense of style . In September of last year, they were spotted wearing coordinated outfits as they prepared to go out of town.

Suri wore distressed denim shorts, a white top, and white sneakers, while Katie donned a red-and-white striped shirt with a denim button-up chambray skirt and matching red ballet flats. In December 2022, the two enjoyed dinner at Los Tacos No.1.

They donned coordinated outfits once more. Suri's mom sported an oversized fleece coat with black trousers and trainers, while she wore a similar-colored padded jacket with a fluffy black scarf wrapped around her neck, black joggers, and white sneakers.

Suri wore the padded jacket again, paired with brown trousers with large white stripes at the sides, a few days after last Christmas, as she and her mother were photographed at Newark Airport . The pair also exercises together now and then, with occasionally overlapping routines.

Tom Cruise and Suri Are Reportedly Not in Touch with Each Other​ ​​​​​​

Suri was six years old when her mom filed for divorce from her dad. Although her parents didn't immediately divulge the reasons for their separation, many media outlets suggested Katie was trying to protect Suri from Scientology, despite having previously adopted the religion herself.

Tom – also previously married to Nicole Kidman with two children – eventually admitted that that was the case. Suri never joined Scientology, and many believed it was the main reason Tom stayed out of her life. However, sources close to the action star said he never wished for his family to fall apart.

He only received visitation rights – with sources claiming Katie only gained full custody after agreeing to be contractually bound from speaking ill of the Scientology church – which allowed him to see his daughter for up to 10 days a month.

Tom reportedly remained in touch with Suri through text messages and video calls but never visited her; he last saw her when she was seven. According to a source close to the predicament, his excuses for his absence were tight film schedules.

However, those excuses started carrying less weight with Suri, which affected their relationship. It's unknown if they're still in contact with each other at this point. They live far apart, too, with Suri in New York and Tom living in London, England, as of April 2021.

Tom Cruise  filmed "Misson: Impossible 7" and "Mission: Impossible 8" back to back, which kept him pretty busy. Still, the actor had time to take a break and take his rumored girlfriend Hayley Atwell to Wimbledon over the weekend of July 9, per Page Six . Atwell was Cruise's co-star in "Mission: Impossible 7," and the two reportedly grew close during the production of the film.

Speaking of the actor's long-public personal life, let's remind you that he has two adult children with ex-wife Nicole Kidman: Connor and Isabella. Cruise and Kidman adopted Connor and Isabella in the 1990s, per Hollywood Life . Cruise's other child, Suri, is his daughter with ex-wife Katie Holmes, and is his only biological child.

Over the years, there's been a lot of speculation about Cruise's relationship with Suri. Keep reading to find out the state of his relationship with his youngest child.

Does Tom Cruise ever see Suri Cruise?

In late October 2012, Life & Style reported that Tom Cruise had "abandoned" his daughter Suri. Cruise filed a $50 million lawsuit against the magazine's parent company, Bauer Media Group, per The Hollywood Reporter . At the time of the filing, his attorney said, "Tom is a caring father who dearly loves Suri. She's a vital part of his life and always will be." Cruise and Bauer settled the lawsuit for undisclosed terms in February 2013, according to  The Hollywood Reporter .

During the lawsuit, Tom Cruise admitted in court, per  People , that he hadn't seen his youngest daughter Suri Cruise in 100 days because of work commitments (though he noted they frequently spoke on the phone). In 2016, that number had grown to 1,000 days, per InTouch . At the time, a source said , "He's disconnected from [ex-wife] Katie [Holmes], and then de facto from Suri, because of her connection to Katie. He hasn't seen her since she was 7."

Today, Suri lives in Manhattan with her mother. Per The Sun , Suri's older half-siblings Isabella and Connor are Scientologists, but she is reportedly not. In 2019, Us Weekly reported that it had been several years since Cruise had seen Suri. Even more shocking is the idea that the Church of Scientology allegedly doesn't allow relationships with parents and their children who aren't Scientologists, as one former member claimed to Us Weekly (the church disputes this, however).

Did Tom Cruise give Suri a gift for her 13th birthday party?

Tom Cruise hadn't reportedly wanted to reach out to Suri Cruise for her 13th birthday, according to Hollywood Life  in 2019. "Tom does plan to send Suri a gift and call her on her birthday," revealed an anonymous source. The source also implied that Tom has struggled with his estrangement from Suri. "As challenging as things have become for him and his daughter, he still loves her," added the source. "[He] thinks about her all the time and will recognize that she is becoming a teenager and a young woman on her big day." Furthermore, the source claimed that Tom wanted to reconcile with Suri in the future. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem as if this reconciliation has happened over the past few years.

Fortunately, Suri has a village with her mother, Katie Holmes, who has a great support system of her own. Holmes previously revealed to People that she not only has her mother, but her friends to help her raise Suri. "I lean on them," shared Holmes. "For advice, for recipes, for all of that stuff: 'What am I supposed to do? Can you come over and watch? Can you be a helping hand?'" added Holmes. "And I do have help, yes, but ... it's your baby, you know? You want to be the one who is there."

Tom Cruise will probably pay for Suri's tuition

Even though Tom Cruise and Suri Cruise don't appear to have much of a relationship, he's still going to fund her college education, according to the Daily Mail . In March 2023, the outlet reported that 16-year-old Suri — who reportedly has her heart set on studying fashion — has been scouting around with her mom to find the perfect school. Tom will pick up the tab. The outlet cited Tom and Katie Holmes' hefty divorce settlement, which included language about Suri's college expenses. "Tom has always maintained his responsibilities when it comes to financial obligations to Katie and Suri," shared a source.

Unfortunately, Brooke Shields revealed another indicator that Tom and Suri may not be on the best terms. In March, Shields spoke with People and lamented about no longer receiving one of Tom's famous Christmas cakes that he gifts to his inner circle. However, she also accidentally revealed that Tom, Suri, and Katie Holmes used to give the cakes as a family. But he eventually removed them from the process. "It was from them and Suri, so it was the three of them, and then soon it was no Suri and no Katie and just Tom," Shields shared. "Then it went from just Tom for a while, but not every holiday. And then the cake stopped."

Tom also has two adopted children from his previous marriage to  Nicole Kidman — a son named Connor , 26, and daughter named Isabella , 28. Although Tom shared in 2006 that he looked forward to Connor, Isabella, and Suri growing close, his divorce from Katie led to those relationships seemingly fraying.

“I always said to myself that my children would be able to depend on me and I would always be there for them and love them—that I’d never make a promise to my kids that I couldn’t keep. I’m not one of those people who believe you can spoil a child with too much love. You can never give a child too much love. There’s just no way.” The actor also recounted celebrating all of the “joy” in his life at the time, which he attributed to his newborn daughter. “We’ll never forget the bad times, you know, but you have to celebrate the joy. And that’s what Suri is: the joy.”

A collection of snapshots from Suri’s life as a little girl even showcased just how affectionate the two were. “It’s been nice that our ages fit. How do I put this? Every age that my child has been and my age at that time has been a good match. We kind of grew up together.” Of course, like any mother, Katie does worry about her only daughter as she becomes a young adult in the public eye. “There is so much bad news and hate and things that don’t make sense. The atmosphere around the world is…terrifying,” she expressed. “Doesn’t every parent [worry about that]?”

Fortunately, the two are incredibly close. They’ve been spotted getting frozen yogurt, shopping, and going for walks around the city from time to time. Katie’s love life is also heating up, as she explores a newfound romance with restauranteur  Emilio Vitolo .

In November 2020, Katie gushed about how her daughter has matured and become her own person. “My biggest goal has always been to nurture her into her individuality. To make sure she is 100 percent herself and strong, confident, and able. And to know it,” Katie told Elle UK . “She came out very strong — she’s always been a strong personality. She’ll pick an activity and work her butt off until she’s really good at it. Then she’s like, ‘OK, I’m going to try the next thing.’ She’s very focused and a hard worker.”

But these women have mostly kept Cruise’s secrets, with experts in the inner workings of Scientology saying that Kidman and Holmes, in particular, probably signed non-disclosure agreements when their marriages to the “Top Gun” actor ended.

But no such agreement probably applies to Cruise’s youngest child, Suri Cruise, from whom he’s long been estranged, Page Six reported . With Suri turning 18 on Thursday, she and her mother Katie Holmes should no longer receive the reported $400,000 a year Cruise paid as part of a divorce settlement. Cruise also agreed to pay Suri’s college and health care costs, Page Six added.

As an adult, Suri Cruise should be free to speak out about her father, his beliefs and their rift, journalist and Scientology expert Tony Ortega told Page Six.

“Suri would have been too young to sign any agreement (when her parents divorced in 2012), but she will now be free to talk if she wants to and it’s going to be really interesting if she has something to say,” Ortega said.

Page Six said that representatives for Cruise, Holmes and the Church of Scientology did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

It’s possible that Suri may choose to stay silent about her famous father. For one thing, if she gave an interview or published a tell-all about him, she’d probably have to give up the mostly private life she’s been able to enjoy thus far. People credit a protective Holmes with trying to give Suri as normal life as is possible under the circumstances, while raising her in New York City.

“Katie has safeguarded Suri and she’s a devoted mom,” a source told Page Six. “This is a girl who is a private citizen. She hasn’t lived her life in public.”

Suri’s life, though, started out in a very public way. As Page Six pointed out, she was once “the most famous baby in America” because of the very high-profile way that Cruise conducted his courtship of the “Dawson’s Creek” star, who was 16 years younger that Cruise when they began dating. When news came that Cruise and Holmes had become parents to a baby daughter in April 2006, a global frenzy erupted, with media outlets competing to be the first to publish the little girl’s photos.

At the age of five months, Suri Cruise made her debut on the cover of Vanity Fair, in a glossy photo taken by celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz.

For the first six years of Suri’s life, Cruise seemed to dote on his youngest daughter and enjoy being seen with her in public. He also is the father of two older children, Isabella, now 31, and Connor Cruise, now 29, whom he adopted with Kidman.

But Suri’s relationship with her father changed after Holmes reportedly “blindsided” him by filing for divorce in 2012. The following year, Cruise gave a deposition in his $50 million court fight against a pair of tabloid magazines and admitted that Holmes filed for divorce “to protect Suri from Scientology,” court documents revealed, Page Six reported.

There have been questions about whether Holmes and her daughter were declared Scientology “suppressive persons,” or SPs, after the divorce. According to Scientology , SPs are people who have “anti-social” personalities who seek to “upset, continuously undermine, spread bad news about and denigrate betterment activities and groups.” Scientology recommends that members stay away from SPs for their own well-being, but the church’s own website said it is “extremely rare” to label someone an SP.

“We don’t know for sure if Katie was ever declared an SP,” Ortega told Page Six. A regular church member, whose wife and daughter left Scientology, would be encouraged to disconnect from them, but Cruise might have been spared that option because of his “top celebrity” status. “He gets to ignore all this stuff,” Ortega said.

In any case, Holmes secured sole custody of their daughter, while Cruise retained “meaningful” visitation rights, according to The Blast . Yet, public sightings of Cruise with his daughter soon dwindled, with Page Six saying they were last seen together at Disney World in the summer of 2012.

Even if Suri has lived a mostly private life, paparazzi are known to follow her and her mother Katie Holmes around the streets of Manhattan. Still, as Suri reportedly prepares to head off to college, Holmes revealed in a 2023 interview with Glamour that she has grown up to be “an incredible person.”

After a heady reign as one of Hollywood's most talked-about "It" couples, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' relationship quickly unraveled after five years of marriage. 

They announced their divorce in June of 2012, which is widely thought to have been a shock to the actor , whose then-wife, with the help of her lawyer dad, privately orchestrated a plan to leave Tom behind.

The couple first started dating in 2005 – Katie was 27 and Tom 43 – the same year the actress called off her engagement from Sweet Magnolias actor Chris Klein . Seven weeks after they first met, the couple were engaged.

Katie and Tom tied the knot in November of the same year with a ceremony at Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, Italy. They had welcomed their first and only daughter, Suri, earlier that year, on the anniversary of their first date, April 18, 2006.

It's been over a decade Suri, now 16 and attending private school in Manhattan , was last seen publicly with her famous dad – leading many to assume that they are estranged.

Katie, who is currently living with Suri in New York and is performing in an off-Broadway production titled The Wanderers , was given sole custody of her daughter at the time of her divorce.

Though it has been widely reported that Tom has little to no part in his daughter's life, according to divorce documents, he agreed to pay his ex-wife $400,000 a year in child support until Suri turns 18.

At the time of their split, Katie's lawyer, Johnathan Wolfe, told People : "Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest." In the filing, the Dawson's Creek alum cited irreoncilable differences as the reason for the split.

In his own statement, the Top Gun actor – who was in Iceland filming Oblivion – did hint that her decision came as a surprise . His spokespersonsaid at the time: "Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children."

Tom also shares kids Bella, 30, and Connor, 28 , with his ex-wife Nicole Kidman . The actors were married from 1990 to 2001, and photos of Nicole, jumping with joy, taken right after the divorce was finalized, are a fixture of pop-culture history.

To make matters worse, it was even claimed that several Scientologists started living with the family in L.A., which seemed to have been fine with the Top Gun: Maverick star, but Holmes was not having any of it.

After cutting ties with Cruise, reports claimed that Holmes was convinced she was being stalked by members of the Church and feared for her safety. Clearly, this was much deeper than simply a woman who was ending her marriage and moving cities because of it. Holmes allegedly felt as if Scientology had taken over her life and her relationship, and when she was ready to leave, they wouldn’t let her go in peace.

While Cruise has provided financial support, it is unclear the last time he physically spent any time with Suri. It is rumored that it is the Church of Scientology that had kept Cruise from spending any time with his daughter and that Cruise is working on leaving the Church so that he can rebuild his relationship with Suri. Given that Holmes has defended Cruise recently when it comes to "inaccuracies" with the media and their relationship , it may just be that the decade that Cruise has spent away from Suri is about to come to an end.

According to Us Weekly ’s report in July 2019, Cruise hadn’t seen his daughter in well over six years, adding that their last encounter when the actor was in New York was very brief and didn’t feel like a daddy-daughter moment but more of a PR opportunity. Clearly, Cruise was bothered by all the press he received with publications calling him a bad parent for neglecting his child because of her mother’s decision to no longer share ties with Scientology, giving the impression that the now 61-year-old ultimately chose his religion over his family.

It was further claimed that because Cruise shares a deep-rooted association with the Church, he was ultimately kept away from Suri because of Holmes’ decision to separate herself from the religion and “blindsiding” her ex-husband with the divorce filing back in 2012. When Holmes and Cruise divorced, the latter made a handful of visits to New York — again, very brief trips. But as time went by, the action star allegedly stopped returning phone calls and hasn’t seen his teen daughter ever since.

Samantha Domingo, who was a Scientologist up until 2004 when she left the religion, said that Cruise’s public outings with Suri after his divorce with Holmes was more than likely a publicity stunt to avoid any further bad press on the Hollywood star, particularly since it had been months after the divorce before he would agree to spend time with his little girl.

"Maybe he did it for a photo op to make it seem like he was connected so he wouldn’t be criticized," Domingo explained, per Us Weekly . "While the Church of Scientology has insisted that members of their organization are allowed to see their children and other family members whenever they like, others tend to believe that if someone leaves Scientology, they are immediately cut off and never spoken to again."

This was eerily similar to Leah Remini , who came out and said that when she ditched the religion in 2013, she lost dozens of Scientology-associated friends, including those who work in the entertainment industry. In response to Cruise not making time to see his daughter, Domingo added, "Suri’s not his daughter — she’s just a spiritual being in his daughter’s body."

A spokesperson for the organization quickly went on to dispel the supposed “rumors” by Domingo, saying, "Everything about your inquiry misrepresents the Church of Scientology, its practices, and the lifestyle of its ministry."

What Katie Holmes Dealt With As A Member Of The Church Of Scientology

To get an understanding of how the Church of Scientology operates, former Scientologist Marc Headley, who at one point worked as the executive producer of Golden Era Production, the organization’s in-house studio, explained what was expected of those in the Church.

"It’s not like you only have to please your husband—you have to toe the line for all Scientology," Headley said. "You can’t do anything to displease Scientology, because Tom Cruise will freak out."

Even Jenna Miscavige Hill, David Miscavige's niece, who abruptly left the church in 2005, threw in her support for Holmes.

She went on to say, "We got a lousy education from unqualified teachers, forced labor, long hours, forced confessions, being held in rooms, not to mention the mental anguish of trying to figure out all of the conflicting information they force upon you as a young child. As a mother myself, I offer my support to Katie and wish for her all the strength she will need to do what is best for her and her daughter."

What Tom Cruise's Relationship Is Like With Suri Today

Some of the most recent reports claim that Cruise has not seen or spent any time with Suri in over a decade. While he pays $400,000 per year for Suri until she turns 18 years old, money does not a relationship make. But, as a result of the "religious crisis" Cruise has been dealing with over the last couple of years, he may have finally made the decision to cut ties with the Church of Scientology , opening the doors to rebuilding a relationship with Suri in the years to come.

Given that Cruise has not been spotted at any of the Church's headquarters in the UK while spending much of his time filming there since the pandemic, it has left many to wonder if ties have been severed. Further still, for the first time since their divorce, Holmes has publicly come out to condemn the media for making false claims about Cruise and his relationship with Suri. As such, there may be some reconciliation happening between father and daughter under the radar, with the media not being privy to allow Suri her privacy.

Suri Cruise reportedly celebrated her eighteenth birthday today, while she remains estranged from her father, Hollywood star Tom Cruise , due to his Scientology ties.

However, Suri's bond with her mother, actress Katie Holmes , remains strong as they navigate life in New York. According to reports, Cruise, who is currently filming "Mission Impossible 8," no longer "exists" to his daughter, who "does not want to rely on him" for anything.

Suri Cruise Turns 18 As She Remains Estranged From Her Father, Tom Cruise

The relationship strain between the father-daughter duo was reportedly caused by his devotion to the Church of Scientology, and now sources close to Suri have revealed that as she navigates her path into adulthood and considers her future career, one thing remains clear: her father, Cruise, "does not exist to her."

Although Suri has been estranged from her father for 12 years, her 18th birthday symbolizes the formal termination of legal ties with the actor, including his obligation to pay child support, reportedly totaling $400,000 annually.

However, financial incentives won't sway Suri to reconnect with her father, and sources who spoke to DailyMail affirmed that she remains steadfast in her decision.

A source noted, "Suri will not have any contact with her father, despite being 18, and even if he called, she would not answer. He does not exist to Katie or Suri, and his daughter does not want to rely on him for anything."

"She feels that she has one parent, and that is her mother," they added.

Suri Cruise Plans To Remain A 'Private Citizen'

Suri's strong bond with her mother is evident; they are inseparable. Holmes and her daughter are frequently seen together in New York, radiating joy as a mother-daughter duo.

While Suri shares many traits with her mother, such as a love for fashion, creativity, and striking looks, she reportedly has no intention of pursuing an acting career like Holmes or Cruise.

Insiders also suggested that although the 18-year-old hasn't finalized her plans, she seems committed to avoiding the traditional Hollywood path and prioritizes maintaining privacy, given her celebrity background.

A source revealed, "Suri's currently weighing up her options for the future. But she plans on remaining a private citizen."

Additionally, while fashion piques her interest, insiders shared that Suri leans toward studying it at college, particularly in New York City, to stay close to her mother.

Suri, then a mere six years old, found herself thrust into the spotlight amid speculation surrounding her parents' split and Tom's affiliation with Scientology.

Following Cruise and Holmes' divorce, the actress was granted sole custody of their daughter, shielding her from the controversies of Scientology, while Cruise retained visitation rights.

However, despite his visitation rights, Cruise's sightings with Suri dwindled over the years, with reports of prolonged absences of more than 100 days throughout the year.

During a legal deposition against tabloid magazines in November 2013, Cruise reportedly admitted that Holmes had filed for divorce "to protect Suri from Scientology."

Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise shockingly split from actress Katie Holmes after five years of marriage leading to a bitter custody battle for their daughter Suri in 2012.

At the time of the high profile breakup, their daughter was just five years old and Tom is said to have been estranged from her since 2013.

Now aged 16, Suri is thought to have already been applying to colleges without the help of her dad due to their lack of relationship.

It is understood Dawson's Creek actress Katie, 44, is heavily involved in the application process as she helps her daughter to take the next step in her life.

Katie was given 'sole custody' of Suri and according to the couple's divorce documents, Tom agreed to pay Katie $400,000 a month until Suri turned 18 years old, reports the Daily Mail .

Now, Tom, 60, hasn't seen his youngest daughter in a decade after Katie refused to join The Church of Scientology.

Tom also reportedly agreed to pay all of Suri's expenses, including "medical, dental, insurance, education, college and other extracurricular costs".

A source told the Daily Mail : "Suri does not know her father anymore and she has not spent time with him in a decade. She does not go to see his movies and he has no part in her life."

The teenager is said to be eyeing up studying fashion at Fordham University in The Bronx, New York.

Katie filed the divorce documents citing 'irreconcilable differences', something Cruise is reported to not have seen coming.

At the time it was understood Katie filed for divorce in New York because it could have given her a better chance at gaining sole custody of Suri.

New York family law judges tend to not like giving fighting parents joint custody because they believe that causes endless conflicts for the children.

The actress seeked full custody so she could remove her daughter from the Church of Scientology, who was reportedly attending a Scientology-influenced school in California at the time.

Katie is alleged to dislike and distrust the church, despite Tom's enthusiasm.

On July 9 2012, Katie's lawyer confirmed the divorce had been settled, with Katie having been granted 'sole custody' of Suri.

The former couple reached an agreement out of court.

A statement from the pair said: "We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri's best interests.

"We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other's roles as parents."

According to TMZ, the agreement included details on what the parents were allowed to tell Suri regarding religion, including Scientology.

The restrictions were reportedly set to be eased as Suri got older.

Following the settlement, Suri was not expected to attend a Scientology school.

In 2019, author Samantha Domingo told Us Weekly that Tom was not allowed to have a relationship with Suri because she is not a Scientologist and due to the Church's belief in reincarnation, they would not view Suri as Tom's daughter.

Tom Cruise has two other children from his marriage with actress Nicole Kidman, who filed for divorce after 11 years in 2001 due to his Scientology ties.

The couple adopted Isabella and Connor , who stuck with Scientology after the split.

Bella lives in London with her IT consultant husband Max Parker, who married in a ceremony which incorporated Scientology and Christianity.

Connor, 28, opts to remain out of the spotlight having attempted to carve out an acting career. It is not clear whether he remained a Scientologist after growing up.

Tom has disagreed his Scientology belief has caused him to be estranged from Suri.

As for Cruise, he moved on with Katie Holmes in 2005. The duo welcomed their daughter, Suri, in April 2006, seven months before tying the knot in Italy.

Although Kidman keeps quiet about her relationship with Isabella, she did speak about her adult children in a November 2018 Who interview .

“They are adults,” the Emmy winner said of Isabella and Connor at the time. “They are able to make their own decisions.

“ They have made choices to be Scientologists and as a mother, it’s my job to love them,” she continued.

“I know 150 percent that I would give up my life for my children because it’s what my purpose is.”

Connor was also raised in the Church of Scientology after being adopted in 1995.

The duo watched basketball games together in Connor’s younger years, and have more recently been spotted boarding a helicopter and hanging out on the “Jack Reacher” set.

Holmes gave birth to Suri in 2006 and has maintained a close bond with her daughter.

The “Dawson’s Creek” alum told Town & Country in 2017 that she provides the little one with a “stable and innocent” childhood .

Cruise, however, still has “no part” of his youngest child’s life , a source exclusively told Page Six in March 2022.

In a 2012 defamation lawsuit against Bauer Media, the “Jerry Maguire” star said he didn’t see Suri for three months after his and Holmes’ breakup.

“Listen, when there is a divorce … things change,” Cruise said. “It’s not an ideal situation.”

Ex-Scientologist Leah Remini has asserted that Cruise “can’t be connected” to Suri because Holmes is considered a “suppressive person” or “enemy” in the religion.

"I hope she always does something on my films," Holmes said. "I always ask her. But both of those experiences came out of the same sense of what I love about our industry, which is, you have these projects and you become a family with people."

It was only two months ago when reports came in that Suri and Tom Cruise had become distant . At the same time, another report talked about how busy Tom Cruise had been these past few months, with a barrage of films and franchises on his back!

From reports of filming a third movie for the  Top Gun  franchise to wanting to develop  Edge of Tomorrow 2, Cruise has been reported to be extremely busy. In an interview with ScreenRant , producer Jerry Bruckheimer talked about his plans for  Top Gun 3.  The producer accidentally spilled that Cruise was indeed very busy with the work.

It will be Tom Cruise [leading the cast], Tom is amazing. We spent time with him. We have a story. Joe Kosinski had a wonderful story idea for it, and [Tom] said, ‘I really like that,’ so we’re developing it.

He further continued,

But you never know when it’s going to get made because Tom is so busy. He’s doing ‘Mission: Impossible’ right now, he’s got a picture after it. Hopefully, we’ll get a screenplay that he loves, and we’ll be back in the air again.

With Christopher McQuarrie helming the project as its director, Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementiff, and, several other actors are attached to prominent roles in the upcoming film.

Tom Cruise's relationship with his children has mostly been kept private, though it appears he does keep in touch with daughter Bella, whom he shares with actor Nicole Kidman . (They also share a son, Connor.) Bella keeps a relatively low profile, usually away from the spotlight. Therefore, when she was approached to live in one of his lavish homes, the artist quickly declined the opportunity, opting to continue living in her modest three-bedroom home in London's Croydon neighborhood.

The offer was unearthed in December 2020 while Cruise was filming a movie in London. During his shoot, he reportedly remained at Corinthia Residences inside a four-bedroom penthouse adorned with marble with views of the River Thames and the London Eye. According to the story, published in The Mirror , Cruise invited Bella to live in this $455,000-a-month penthouse shortly after she relocated to the area. The offer was seemingly an attempt for Cruise to be closer to his daughter. However, she chose to remain in her South London home with husband Max Parker. However, this wasn't the first time that Bella has tried to distance herself from her parents' superstardom.

When Bella Cruise and Max Parker tied the knot on September 18, 2015, mother Nicole Kidman was not present. Allegedly, the wedding was a surprise to her, with one insider telling Page Six a month after the ceremony, "The wedding was a Scientology ceremony. Nicole wasn't there — she didn't even know about it at all." Conflicting reports initially claimed Cruise was present. However, in October 2015, an insider told TMZ that the "Mission Impossible" star was not in attendance as his daughter walked down the aisle  out of respect for Bella. "He knows that if he went, it would be all about him. Paps and guests would have made it a less special day had they been focusing on Tom," a source told Hollywood Life (via TheThings ).

Despite not attending, Cruise reportedly footed the bill for the small ceremony, which included only a small circle of friends. Bella and Parker are said to have only wanted their close friends present. The groom's parents were also allegedly absent during the nuptials. In the years that have followed the wedding, Bella has continued to successfully dodge the media, though she did make a surprise appearance with her father and brother, Connor, during a rare sports outing.

Bella Cruise seemingly broke her no publicity standards when she attended a hockey game with the Academy Award nominee and brother Connor Cruise. The trio were spotted in Florida at the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers match in December 2023. Before the game, Tom Cruise granted a photograph to retired NFL player Derrick Brooks, who is also part owner of the Lightning, along with a group of others in the head office.

In the picture, Cruise's only son smiles next to Brooks, while Bella is tucked in the back, peeking her head out. The image appears to be the first time that Cruise and his children were not seen together publicly since they went to a Los Angeles soccer game together in 2009. Though some have debated whether or not Cruise has a good relationship with his children, there is no indicator of a beef between Bella and Cruise. In fact, she put the rumors to rest during a March 2016 interview with the Daily Mail , stating, "Of course [we talk], they're my parents. Anyone who says otherwise is full of s**t." Much like her rejection of the pricy home her dad offered her, it seems that she wishes to mostly keep her distance for the sake of privacy.

Katie Holmes on Wednesday posted a picture of her daughter Suri Cruise’s 12th birthday party, even as her father Tom Cruise’s presence in her life is open to speculation. It was previously reported that Cruise hasn’t met his daughter in over three years, but he did send her gifts now and then, including for her birthdays.

Katie Holmes shared the black & white photo with 12 tiny pink hearts as a caption. In the picture, Suri can be seen wearing a ‘happy birthday’ tiara.

A source told Hollywood Life that Cruise’s relationship with his daughter isn’t something Holmes talks about. “Suri gets a gift from Tom on her birthday every year and this year was no exception,” the source says. “It’s not something Katie talks about though, beyond saying that Tom does always come through with gifts for things like birthdays and Christmas. She’s very tight-lipped.”

According to a 2016 report on Fox News, Cruise lost touch with Suri when she was seven. “If he wanted to see her, he could see her,” one source told New York Post in June, 2016. “Even people in prison have a right to see their children.”

But Fox News suggested that Suri isn’t too affected by this. “She’s thriving. She’s got lots of friends and a nice, normal life. This is his loss, his issue, his problem,” said a source in the Fox report. “He must be really brainwashed.”

According to a different report, the actor has not been photographed with Suri since 2013. In 2017, a long-time friend of Cruise who operates a fanpage in his honour on Facebook, wrote that Cruise had told her to avoid posting pictures of Suri because, ‘She is no longer part of my life.’

In June, 2017, a source told In Touch that Cruise refused to meet Suri on Father’s Day even though he was just 23 miles away. “Tom could have easily made the trip to see Suri. It only takes about 30 minutes without traffic,” the source said. “It would’ve only added a few hours to his busy schedule.”

Meanwhile, Katie Holmes refuses to mention Cruise at home. According to a Life & Style report, “Katie is more adamant than ever about not talking about him, publicly or privately. With Tom missing from Suri’s life for so long, Katie believes her daughter only has distant memories of him. At this point, Katie doesn’t want to bring up his name and have Suri start longing to see Tom all over again. It would be too painful for both of them.”

Katie is rumoured to be dating actor Jamie Foxx. She divorced Cruise in 2012.

Brad Pitt ’s relationship with his children appears to have grown increasingly fractured since his and Angelina Jolie ’s 2016 split.

The Babylon actor 60, and the Maleficent actress, 48, share six children : Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 15, having adopted the eldest three.

But slowly his children – who all began with Pitt as their surname – are changing their names to Jolie instead .

Days ago – and on her 18th birthday – Shiloh filed paperwork to change her name to Shiloh Jolie, dropping Pitt from her last name, according to TMZ .

A source told People he is ‘aware and upset’ of the change.

‘He’s aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name. He’s never felt more joy than when she was born. He always wanted a daughter,’ the source said.

Zahara is Pitt and Jolie’s eldest daughter, who they adopted before welcoming Shiloh.

‘The reminders that he’s lost his children, is of course not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them. It’s very sad,’ they added.

While Shiloh – the pair’s first biological child together, having adopted Maddox, Pax and Zahara – is the first to legally seek a name change, some of their other children have also taken steps away from their father in recent years.

Vivienne dropped her dad’s last name on the playbill for her musical The Outsiders , appearing just as Vivienne Jolie.

Meanwhile, Zahara joined the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority as Zahara Markey Jolie at Spelman College in November while introducing herself.

Why are Brad Pitt’s children changing their names to Jolie?

In 2022, a source told People Brad was hoping to improve his relationship with his children, which has been in ‘a bad situation for years.’

‘Since Angelina filed for divorce, Brad has been focused on having the best relationship possible with his kids. It’s been very difficult for him. Many times, there have been long gaps where he didn’t see the kids at all,’ the insider said.

Once Hollywood’s most famous couple, everything crumbled following a private plane journey from France to California , in which Jolie accused her husband of being drunk and aggressive .

She claims he grabbed her by the head, injured her back  and elbow, choked one of their children, and struck another. 

The altercation was said to have started between him and one of his children, which escalated into a physical fight, in which he poured beer and wine over his family, Jolie claimed.

Five days later Jolie filed for divorce.

Authorities received an anonymous tip off about the incident, sparking an FBI investigation, which was ultimately closed with no charges made.

Pitt has always denied all the claims made against him, and previously responded to them via a statement from his lawyer, which read: ‘Brad has owned everything he’s responsible for from day one – unlike the other side – but he’s not going to own anything he didn’t do.’  

‘He has been on the receiving end of every type of personal attack and misrepresentation.’ 

In 2020, Brad’s friends flocked to support him after a then 16-year-old Pax shared a scathing Father’s Day message , written on top of a picture of the actor collecting his Oscar for Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood.

‘Happy Father’s Day to this world-class a**hole,’ he said.

‘You time and time again prove yourself to be a terrible and despicable person.’

In the post, unearthed  by MailOnline , Pax went on: ‘You have no consideration or empathy towards your four youngest children who tremble in fear when in your presence.

‘You will never understand the damage you have done to my family because you are incapable of doing so.’

Pax concluded: ‘You have made the lives of those closest to me a constant hell. You may tell yourself and the world whatever you want but the truth will come to light someday.

‘So Happy Father’s Day, you f*****g awful human being.’

Jolie adopted him from a Vietnamese orphanage in 2007 with Brad formally adopting him a year later.

Angelina Jolie has claimed Brad Pitt’s alleged abuse predated the 2016 plane journey

During a current legal dispute over their Miraval winery , the Tomb Raider actress recently claimed Pitt’s alleged abuse predated the infamous plane journey .

‘Pitt’s history of physical abuse of Jolie started well before the family’s plane trip from France to Los Angeles… this flight marked the first time he turned his physical abuse on the children as well,’ her attorneys claim in court papers released in April, as reported by the Daily Mail .

The papers went on to claim Jolie has evidence of ‘Pitt’s history of physical abuse of the family and control abuse of Jolie’ and it also alleged the children continue to experience ‘significant and ongoing post-traumatic stress’.

Attorneys for Jolie referred to the ‘history of abuse, control and cover-ups’ and claimed the actress has ‘testimony, emails, photographs, and other evidence’ which they claim will show how Pitt tried to conceal his behaviour if they come to trial.

Pitt has always denied all claims against him.

Angelina Jolie claims Pitt attempted to make her sign an NDA

In the recent motion filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court, Jolie claimed she tried to sell Pitt her stake in the wine business, but negotiations ultimately broke down after he conditioned the sale on his ex-wife signing a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).

They claim the NDA ‘prohibited Jolie from speaking (other than in court) about Pitt’s abuse of Jolie and their children by attempting to tie Pitt’s personal reputation to Miraval’s business.’

The Hollywood actress claimed she agreed to sign an NDA that was ‘limited to not disparaging Miraval’s wine business’ as part of her agreement to sell Pitt her stake in the company.

The filing added: ‘At trial, Jolie will prove through testimony, emails, photographs, and other evidence why Pitt was so concerned about his own misconduct that he blew up his own deal to purchase Jolie’s interest in Miraval because she refused to agree to his new, expansive NDA.’

The documents went on to state the Eternals actress didn’t press charges in relation to the alleged altercation on the plane because she believed ‘the best course was for Pitt to accept responsibility and help the family recover from the post-traumatic stress he caused.’

The winery dispute was sparked when Jolie  sold her half  to Tenute del Mondo, a subsidiary of Stoli Group.

Pitt then  sued her in 2022  for allegedly  going against an agreement  he said they had made not to sell up without getting approval from the other.
