The expert advice hub makes a comeback in 2024!

The expert advice hub makes a comeback in 2024!

Please tell us more about the Advice Hub that will be featuring at this year’s show.

What does it offer for visitors and why should they attend?

The highly anticipated return of the Expert Advice Hub at this year's Travel Tech Show (TTS) promises to be one of the  cornerstones of the event. Supported by A Bright Approach and spearheaded by myself, senior industry advisors spanning diverse expertise areas including travel tech, investment, sales, marketing, and customer success will be on hand to share their insights and guidance with visitors.

With its stellar lineup of industry leaders, the Expert Advice Hub is set to once again captivate and enlighten attendees at Travel Tech Show, providing exceptional opportunities for learning, networking, and growth.

Who will be on the Advice Panel and are there any topics in particular they will be covering?

Advisors are very familiar with the visitors to the show. Many conversations could lead to valuable connections between buyers and suppliers from conversations with the advisors.

This year the panel will see the addition of new advisors, including those specialising in customer success and global venture capital, further enriching the Hub's offerings. This expansion enables companies to dive into topics such as funding strategies and more.

Moreover, the Expert Advice Hub serves as a platform for technology experts to share insights on the latest trends and innovations in travel technology. Visitors can expect engaging discussions on what's hot and what's not in the ever-evolving landscape of travel tech. In short, engage with your peers and stay ahead of the curve.

Alongside myself, this year’s line-up also includes John Ames, senior practitioner from Crosslake Technologies, Paul Richer, senior partner from Genesys Digital Transformation, Paul Stephen, co-founder of the Remarkable Group and Will Phillipson, co-founder of SilverRail Technologies and most recently CTO for Kyte and COO of Citymapper. New to the panel is independent PR and communications consultant Nikki Stimson of Stimson Consulting and Gabriel Giscard d’Estaing, M&A advisor and vice president of Cambon Partners. Between us we'll be covering a whole host of topics including winning and keeping customers, emerging technology, marketing and sales strategies and travel tech consultancy alongside the always popular booking systems and payment tools and recruitment and retention.

What is the format for this year’s show? How is it going to be different?

In past editions, the Expert Advice Hub garnered immense popularity among attendees seeking hands-on, practical advice from seasoned professionals across various sectors. Visitors enjoyed the opportunity to engage directly with experts, benefiting from their wealth of knowledge and experience.

Each advisor generously dedicates their time to participate in the Hub, offering visitors the chance to book 20-minute slots in advance — an option highly recommended due to the rapid booking pace.

For the 2024 edition of the show we have extended the topics to ensure we have the best qualified panel available to answer questions giving the best advice and insight on a broad range of topics that are really of interest to visitors.

How can buyers find out more? Where will it be held and what is the schedule?

It’s very straightforward to sign-up. Just choose the topic or expert you would like to meet with and you can book a meeting with them via the TravelTech Show app.

Commonly Asked Questions

What are the best travel forums in 2024.

In 2024, the best travel forums are those that bring together travel professionals from both inbound and outbound markets. Look out for leading trade fair events like the World Travel Market and the Travel and Adventure Show.

These forums are essential for tour operators, travel agents, and all involved in the travel industry. They offer great networking opportunities and insights into emerging trends in smart tourist destinations.

Conference vs. Convention: What's the Difference?

The main difference between a conference and a convention lies in their purpose and audience. Conferences, part of travel conferences 2024, focus on professional development and sharing knowledge.

They're targeted towards specialists like tourism professionals and travel content creators. Conventions are broader, often including trade shows and entertainment, attracting a wider audience from companies in various industries, including the general public.

What is Conference Travel?

Conference travel refers to attending professional events, such press conferences such as travel conferences or trade shows, in different cities or countries. This type of travel is popular among business travelers, including those attending industry events in cities like San Francisco or Las Vegas. It combines attending the conference with exploring new destinations, making it a unique experience for travel professionals.

What Do Travelers Want in 2024?

In 2024, travelers are looking for unique and personalized experiences. They want to explore new and smart tourist destinations responsibly and sustainably.

With advancements in big data, travelers expect personalized services and experiences that cater to their preferences. This shift is driving the travel industry to create more tailored and interesting events and packages.

Summit vs. Conference: What's the Difference?

A summit, like the Travel Summit, is usually a high-level meeting focusing on important decisions and discussions among thought leaders.

It's more exclusive and centered on key topics. A conference, such as ITB Berlin or TBEX Europe, is more about bringing professionals together to learn, network, and share knowledge on specific themes.

Is a Convention Bigger Than a Conference?

Typically, a convention is bigger than a conference. Conventions combine various aspects of an industry, including trade shows, networking events, and sometimes public exhibitions. They attract a larger, more diverse audience.

In contrast, conferences are more focused on business meetings, aimed at professionals for learning and networking, like those in the travel industry attending tourism conferences.

Which brands are attending?

Samsung at ces 2024.

Galaxy Fold 5

Samsung has a long history of mega-booths and massive product rollouts and CES 2024 will be no different. However, the major focus this year will be AI (actually a major theme across the whole of CES 2024).

In addition to its Center Hall booth, Samsung will hold a major press conference to announce all of its major updates.

In the TV realm, we're expecting brighter OLED models, since that's one of the specs that matters most to consumers.  They'll bring out the new 8K displays and, yes, more microLEDs at probably even bigger sizes.

Also expect updates on projectors (even short-throw 8K ones), appliances, laptops and tablets, and sustainability (a show theme). We should see some more smart home ideas (more Matter support updates) from the South Korean tech giant and maybe even a surprise or two.

Sony at CES 2024

Sony TV 2023

Last year, Sony revealed an exciting EV concept with a terrible name: Afeela . Will the company show yet another iteration of this car that it's been working on for at least four years? Maybe.

Honestly, the company doesn’t seem to show much else at CES anymore. We’re not expecting anything TV and audio (though there might be some other home theater tech), for example. Perhaps we’ll get a tease of future PlayStation hardware updates, though, with the PS5 Slim and PlayStation Portal only recently launched, that looks far from certain.

Also a longer than long shot is an AIBO robot dog update (though we can always hope). The truth is that, at least in recent years, Sony just hasn’t been that much of a CES draw!

LG at CES 2024

Woman using LG Display's new stretchable display

Expect LG to operate on the same two tracks it's traveled in previous CES events: appliances and displays. On the display side, LG will no doubt push OLED into new areas as it always does – we’re not sure whether to expect any more bending screens, but it’ll definitely put OLED in just about anything else with pixels. We hope it’ll bring its groundbreaking MLA OLED tech to more affordable models this year, but we’ll see.

The appliances side will also show new and ever-smart home tech, including robot vacuums, refrigerators, washing machines, and other surprising home stuff – we’ve seen the company show indoor vegetable gardens and perfectly spherical home ice machines before. There will also be talk about Matter support and sustainability.

Hisense at CES 2024

Hisense U8H TV showing Amazon's The Rings of Power

Hisense will be attending CES 2024, with an exhibit in LVCC's Central Hall.

It's another company that focuses on TVs and appliances mostly. We know the company has a new range of 2024 TVs to show off, but we also know that they’re going to be extremely similar to 2023’s TVs, with one big exception: and new flagship TV that will be the company’s brightest-ever, with over 5,000 nits of brightness, new anti-reflection tech, and more dimming zones than the company’s ever put in a mini-LED TV.

Intel at CES 2024

Man inside a server room

As far as Intel and CES 2024 goes, it is going to be all about Meteor Lake and the new Intel Core Ultra processors with built-in neural processing units (NPUs). Of course, Intel announced these chips months ago and they officially launched on December 14, but given that they’re exclusively mobile chips (for now), an Intel launch doesn’t mean that you can get a laptop with a Core Ultra chip in it ahead of CES.

Most manufacturers’ production cycles aren’t set up to launch new products in December, so the first laptops we’ll get our hands on with the new processors will be coming in the months ahead. However, the first chance we’ll get to see them in person will be in the second week of January.

So in a lot of ways, it’s not Intel we’re talking about here as much as it is everyone else putting Intel Core Ultras into their stuff, and those promise to run the gamut from straightforward refreshes of business laptops to exciting new designs that leverage the new hybrid+ architecture featuring performance cores, efficiency cores, and low-power efficiency cores coupled with a neural processor on the SoC that will make consumer AI applications like generative image creation or document drafting much simpler and practical.

Most importantly, these new AI apps won’t need a connection to a cloud data center to work in theory . How well they perform in reality remains to be seen, but finding out will be the most exciting thing from Intel at CES in as long as we can remember.

AMD at CES 2024

AMD EPYC Genoa

With Nvidia focused like your cat on a laser pointer, CES 2024 would be a great time for AMD to make some moves to pick up market share in the GPU market, but there hasn’t been any hint that a release is forthcoming on that front from Team Red.

For GPUs, we’ll likely have to wait a few months before we see any more Radeon cards coming out, like a potential RX 7950 XT or RX 7750 XT, but AMD isn’t just a graphics company.

With AMD’s recent announcement of its Ryzen 8000-series mobile CPU , the Ryzen 9 8945HS, we expect to see a lot of laptops with the new chip in them. What’s more, with the AMD Z1 and Z1 Extreme handheld chips powering devices like the Asus ROG Ally and the Lenovo Legion Go , there will be a ton of third-party products at CES 2024 around handheld gaming.

Plus, given the consumer electronics focus of CES, if we hear anything from AMD around CES, it’d likely be around handhelds rather than desktops, since a handheld portable gaming system is pretty much exactly the kind of product that CES was built to showcase.

Nvidia at CES 2024

Nvidia photo

After its explosive growth into a trillion-dollar company in 2023 on the generative AI wave of ChatGPT , Dall-E , Google Bard , and Midjourney , among others, Nvidia’s near total monopoly on the specialized chips that power large language models and other AI systems leaves the company at something of a crossroads as it heads into 2024.

While still the maker of the best graphics cards in the world for gamers and creative professionals, the license-to-print money that is generative AI right now puts many of Nvidia’s upcoming consumer products under a rather long shadow. We expect Nvidia to announce new “Super” branded GPUs at CES this year, but which ones or how many we don't know.

This current generation of consumer Nvidia GPUs has been a very mixed bag, both on the performance side (at least at the lower end of the product stack) as well as their “premium-plus” pricing. The company’s flagship card, the Nvidia RTX 4090 , starts at $1,699.99, while its “midrange” RTX 4070 card will run you $600, putting many of Nvidia’s latest graphics cards out of reach for many.

We don’t expect any GPU announcements at CES to be much better, as these will almost certainly be a Super version of the RTX 4080 (US MSRP $1,199.99) or the RTX 4070, so it’s likely that these cards will still be more than half a grand in the best case. These aren’t prices that the consumer market can easily afford, and given reports of Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s memo to Nvidia staff declaring that Nvidia “is no longer a graphics company” but an AI company, it seems poised to pivot strongly towards its enterprise customers in 2024. If Nvidia makes a splash at CES 2024, it’ll likely be with a parting gift to the consumer market on its way out the door to far more profitable horizons.

More than a decade after a stroke, Randy Travis sings again, courtesy of AI

By Lee Cowan

May 5, 2024 / 9:10 AM EDT / CBS News

Even if you're not into country, you can't help but bathe in the baritone that is Randy Travis. His voice goes down like whisky – always has, ever since his first album, "Storms of Life," in 1986.  "I thought if we sold 40,000 copies they might let us make a second record." said producer Kyle Lehning.

They ended up selling four million . "So, I'm a genius!" Lehning laughed.

Randy Travis and that voice helped build Warner Music Nashville into what it is today. "How do you describe the thing that just hits you in the center of your chest and unconsciously makes you feel full, and familiar, and known?" said Cris Lacy, the label's co-chair and co-president. "How do you describe something like that?"

His was a God-given talent … and then, fate took it all away.

In 2013 Travis suffered a massive stroke . He was given just a 2% chance of survival. "I thought we were going to lose him," said Lehning.

Lacy said, "It felt like it could be the end of an era."

Besides the paralysis, the area of his brain that controls speech and language was hit the hardest. Randy's wife, Mary, said, "Music is what he's made of. Music is his heart, it's his soul."

Mary does most of the talking these days. She said Randy know what he wants to say, but it just doesn't come out.

Asked if he'd made peace with that, Randy replied, "Yep. Yep."

Three years after his stroke, with Mary at his side, Travis was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, and gave "Amazing Grace" new meaning . There wasn't a dry eye in the house.

In his absence, though, he's heard a lot of AI-generated fakes of his voice. A simple Google search brings up sites that promise to covert anyone's vocal into a Randy Travis sound-alike. "It doesn't sound good, and it doesn't sound real, because it's not," said Lacy.

And that got his record label to thinking. Lacy said, "We started with this concept of, what would AI for good look like for us? And the first thing that came to mind was, we would give Randy Travis his voice back."

There were more than a few skeptics – Kyle Lehning, for one. "It sounded like a parlor trick or something," he said.

But Lehning (with Randy's blessing) decided to try. He and Warner Music started by pulling 42 Randy Travis tracks from the vault, like the original recording of his hit "1982." And then, they stripped away the music, leaving only the vocal.

That was half the recipe. The other half needed to be provided by a donated, or "surrogate," voice. In this case, that voice came from country music singer James DuPre.

james-dupre-mary-travis-kyle-lehning-randy-travis.jpg

The AI program – the "secret sauce" – takes Travis' voice and overlays it on top of DuPre's singing. It's hardly an exact science.  "It's not about how it sounds; it's about how it feels ," Lehning said.

And that is not something a computer can figure out. "Not yet!" Lehning laughed.

He knows Travis' voice almost better than Randy does; they've worked together for 40 years.  This time, though, the task was to take a computer-generated voice and give it Randy's country heart.  "Him being here and him being able to be a vital part of the decision-making process makes all the difference to me," said Lehning.

secret-sauce.jpg

In the end, they landed on something they felt worthy of a voice no one but those who knew him best could replicate.

According to Lacy, "It's Randy Travis. Randy's on the other side of the microphone. It's still his vocal. There's no reason he shouldn't be able to make music, and to deprive him of that, if he still wants to do that, that's unconscionable to me."

Two months ago, Warner Music gathered a small circle of fellow musicians into a recording studio. Randy sat with a Cheshire Cat's grin, and then they hit "play."

Listen to Randy Travis' "Where That Came From":

The reaction to his first new song in more than a decade was a mix of joy and wonder.

For his wife, tears. For Randy's country friends, like Grammy-winning superstar Carrie Underwood, there was confusion. ("How? How? How?!? ") For Cole Swindell, who just won three ACM Awards, it reminded him of why he became a country singer in the first place. ("For you all to let me hear it, that means a lot. Damn, I'm glad to hear you sing!") And veteran country star Clay Walker was simply over the moon.

carrie-underwood-randy-travis.jpg

Even Randy's own family hadn't heard it until two weeks ago.

It was perfection ... with a caveat.  "We don't exactly know how to get here again," said Cris Lacy.

The second song they're working on is proving a harder nut to crack. There's still work to be done, and a lot of questions to answer about what this all means going forward.

But revel in this: After a decade-long absence, Randy Travis is back on the radio. His post-stroke debut song, "Where That Came From," was released this past week.

kyle-lehning-randy-travis.jpg

For Randy, it's not just a single, it's a victory. And as Mary says, "It's a life inspiration. Speak kindly, love fully, live completely, and leave the rest to God."

Sounds like there's a song in there somewhere. We can only hope.

Global travel industry trends 2024: Travelers become master planners

travel tech show 2024

So far in 2024, the global travel industry is seeing a significant resurgence, accompanied by a noticeable trend: People are becoming more skilled at planning their trips and are mastering the art of travel.

Equipped with a wealth of online tools, these travelers are tailoring their itineraries to ensure enriching experiences at maximum value. Resources like AI assistants to one-stop-shop booking platforms empower travelers to curate highly personalized getaways.

To understand the state of global travel in 2024, we analyzed Criteo’s dataset from hundreds of travel players and results from a survey of 10,000+ travelers globally. These are the trends that will help advertisers adapt to this year’s evolving landscape.

1. People are surfing the travel surge.

Across all major regions, bookings for air travel soared by double digits year-over-year during the first quarter of 2024, signaling a robust boost in travel for the upcoming months. Air bookings rose +14% in EMEA, +13% in APAC, and +10% in the Americas YoY.

Anticipate a surge in personal getaways this spring and early summer. According to Criteo’s survey, more people around the world plan to travel for leisure or visit friends/family in the next 1-3 months.

2. AI and booking sites offer algorithmic adventures.

In the past 6 months, more travelers are finding AI tools useful for recommendations—especially for dining experiences, accommodations, and activities. This shift is the strongest among travelers in South Korea, with a 6-point growth when comparing Q3 2023 and Q1 2024.

The adoption of AI tools by travelers is also gaining momentum in Europe. More travelers in Germany (+4 points), France (+4 points), and the UK (+3 points) said they found AI tools useful over the same period.

Throughout the online booking journey, travelers are also open to suggestions from travel providers. Half of travelers around the world (48%) get inspiration from travel booking sites.

3. People value personal travel advice.

While assistance from AI and travel booking websites influence the planning journey, travelers still prefer word-of-mouth suggestions. A full 61% of travelers globally said that recommendations from family and friends is a strong decision-making factor. Over one-third of people globally also find inspiration from personal travel content sites like blogs.

Positive reviews are another highly influential factor and are gaining traction. When choosing a travel provider, two-thirds of travelers globally consider positive reviews. This was up 8 points in Q1 2024 compared to in Q3 2023.

4. Travelers are finding ways to adapt to rising costs.

In Q1 2024, 25% of travelers around the world said they spent more on travel within the last six months compared to the same period a year prior.

Rising costs were felt most by travelers in France (+13 points), Japan (+11 points), and South Korea (+8 points).

To secure better travel deals, 38% of people globally said they have or would consider changing the timing of their trips. This trend is even more pronounced among travelers in Japan, where 52% are open to adopting this strategy.

One in four travelers worldwide also plan to save money by engaging in fewer activities and opting for more affordable dining experiences. A third of US travelers will also leverage rewards from loyalty programs.

While many travelers aim to cut costs, a growing portion are embracing higher expenditures . A striking 75% of those who spent more on travel in the last six months also splurged on non-essential costs like luxury goods, dining out, health and beauty products, and apparel and accessories.

5. Booking everything from one source offers convenience.

Half of travelers compare multiple (3+) travel providers in search of the best deals.

However, many people prefer to book all travel services from a single source for added convenience and ease of coordination. Three in five travelers globally booked all aspects of their most recent trip—such as flights, hotels, rental cars, and activities—through a single platform, website, app, or provider.

6. Mobile helps travelers embrace their spontaneity.

Travelers enjoy having the freedom to make spur of the moment decisions. Nearly 1in 5 opt to leave some bookings for mid-trip. US travelers lead in flexibility, with 77% stating they booked most aspects of their trip right before departure.

Booking while on-the-go is also popular. In the Americas and EMEA, the share of air travel bookings completed on mobile devices increased by 8 points in March 2023 compared to March 2024. Similarly, there was a 6-point increase in APAC.

Embark on your advertising odyssey

Capturing the attention of travelers demands a highly personalized approach. By crafting ads that directly address their needs and interests—like discounts, loyalty rewards, destination ideas, and activity recommendations—advertisers can boost engagement and bookings.

Given that travelers explore multiple options before making a purchase, a retargeting strategy also helps keeps users engaged until they decide where to go and what they want to experience on their next trip. Meanwhile, retention campaigns can encourage stronger lifetime value as existing travel customers tend to have higher spend compared to first-time buyers.
