Jet Set Jams: The 13 Best Songs About Travel
by Gary Leff on December 26, 2023
That’s a very different exercise than the best songs for travel , this isn’t a ‘play list for the road’ it’s about borrowing someone else’s poetry to describe the travel experience. There’s no question that George Gershwin didn’t write Rhapsody in Blue to be about travel, but it’s equally clear that the 1924 composition has become inextricably linked with United Airlines.
What songs most evoke travel for you and are missing from my list? Which ones here are new to you?
The 13 best travel songs: Iggy Pop – The Passenger . This 1977 classic resulted from Iggy Pop travelling with David Bowie on tour in North America and Europe. Reportedly he didn’t have a license and the two drove around in Bowie’s car. Although it’s also said to be loosely based on a Jim Morrison poem.
The song features in the trailer for Up in the Air and in promos for Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown . There’s probably nothing more evocative of travel.
Paul Kelly – Sydney from a 727 . I first discovered Australian singer-songwriter Paul Kelly on a visit to my family Down Under over 25 years ago. I was instantly a fan. He’s been a member of the Australian Recording Industry Association Hall of Fame for nearly 20 years, though a virtual unknown in the States though he’s toured here.
Listening to Sydney from a 727 (which was also recorded as being from a 747), you can almost picture coming in for approach off the ocean (“I can see Bondi through my window way off to the right”) while capturing the spirit to take off in search of something (“And quit your job on the spot / Bought that ticket yeah spent the lot”). While no song quite captures the landing sequence quite like this one:
And the captain says belt up now we’ll be touching down in ten So I press my seat and I straighten up I fold my tray and I stash my cup As the red roofs are catching the first rays of the morning sun
The Animals – We Gotta Get Out of This Place . It’s an anthem that speaks to almost everyone, because everyone wants change. It was popular with soliders in Vietnam, with high school students who can’t wait to get out on their own, and with travelers who need to travel and feel cooped up when they’re at ‘home’.
The Proclaimers – I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) . As if taking a journey, taking a long arduous journey, to make your way to someone wasn’t enough someone once actually walked 1000 miles to convince his girlfriend to marry him . It turns out the journey wasn’t a real precondition of marriage and she was joking, but he did it anyway.
David Byrne – A Million Miles Away . No, this singer who once led the Talking Heads isn’t talking about what you have to go through to earn lifetime elite status .
But he is singing about the need to get away — travel far, far away — and become someone else, and be seen as someone else (“A toad is a prince in someone else’s eyes And you can’t tell a man by his clothes”).
Simon & Garfunkel – Homeward Bound . Is there any other song that’s truly the business traveler’s anthem? Waking up in the middle of the night, after being on the road for weeks at a time, and wondering what city you’re in you grab your phone because a weather app is on the home screen. And it tells you what city you’re in.
I’m sitting in the railway station. Got a ticket to my destination. On a tour of one-night stands my suitcase and guitar in hand. …Every day’s an endless stream Of cigarettes and magazines. And each town looks the same to me, the movies and the factories And every stranger’s face I see reminds me that I long to be, Homeward bound
Johnny Cash – I’ve Been Everywhere . Originally an Australian country song which named that country’s towns, it’s amazing the song has been made to work for Singapore, Belgium, Canada and any number of other places too.
With all the US cities Johnny Cash has been to — Waterloo, Kalamazoo, Kansas City, Sioux City, Cedar City, Dodge City, what a pity — I hope he’s saved up his miles and points because he could really use an international vacation.
George Gershwin – Rhapsody in Blue . Gershwin’s classic is more United Airlines now than anything else, at least to a traveler. The original composition from the tunnel connecting United’s B and C concourses at Chicago O’Hare is a riff on Rhapsody in Blue .
Phil Collins – Take Me Home . Maybe the song isn’t actually about going home. And maybe it’s a protest song against involuntary confinement in mental institutions. But for me it’s about longing for home, being on the road so long that you can hardly remember it but home is still your true North. (.. But, seriously.)
There’s a fire that’s been burning Right outside my door I can’t see but I feel it And it helps to keep me warm
…So take, take me home ‘Cause I don’t remember
Elvis Costello – Peace Love & Understanding . As I walk through this wicked world, searching for light in the darkness of insanity, I ask myself “Is all hope lost?”
It may not immediately seem like a travel song, but travel is about connecting with and engaging people and culture different from your own and yet building a common bond — of peace, love, and understanding. And it helps that the song was featured in Lost in Translation too.
Frank Sinatra – Come Fly With Me . Come fly with me let’s fly let’s fly away. It spent 5 weeks at number one, and just as I want to claim George Clooney as one of us for Up in the Air we’ve got to lay claim to Sinatra…
Ricky Nelson – Travelin’ Man . This 1961 classic shows its age, there’s no question it objectifies women, the song is about each city in the world in which he has a girl. But he clearly gets around .. to Mexico, Berlin, Hong Kong not to mention Hawaii and Alaska. But since its 1961, there’s no music video so it’s safe for work!
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Around The World (or maybe Aeroplane or Road Trippin’). When I first started thinking about this list it didn’t occur to me that The Red Hot Chili Peppers would be on it, but they have several songs about travel, from the plane to car but Around the World is the most meta and in some sense follows Elvis Costello with lines like “life is beautiful around the world” and indeed it is.
So what am I missing? What belongs on this list?

Hey Gary..,,,
How about Willy Nelson’s,
On The Road Again…. !!
No love for Lindsey Buckingham and “Holiday Road” 🙂 ????
john Denver’s “Leaving on a jet plane” and also Peter/Paul/Mary’s cover of same
Considering how many delays there are. Stealers Wheel, Stuck in the Middle With You, seems appropriate.
…’Two Tickets to Paradise’… …’Go Your Own Way’…
Paul simon-america Al stewart time passages
How could a travel blog named “A View From the Wing” leave Jet Airliner by the Steve Miller Band off this song list. I mean is there any more of a metaphor for modern air travel the the line “gotta go through hell before you get to heaven”.
I mean com’ on man!
Tip of the iceberg it seems. SO… many obvious songs are missed in this blog post it should have never been attempted with the headline used. More like “13 favorite songs I like”. John Denver, Steve Miller have many songs about traveling, not just Jet Airliner and Leaving on a Jetplane.
You missed a few. Chuck Berry’s promised Land, grateful dead staple as well as Truckin.’
I usually sing the John Denver penned, Peter, Paul and Mary sung version of ‘Leaving on a Jet Plane’ before long trips.
Joe Cocker The Letter
OMG, how could you leave off Gladys Knight and the Pips singing “Midnight Train to Georgia” or, maybe a little less about travel, Otis Redding singing “(Sittin’ on) the Dock of the Bay.”
The City of New Orleans by Arlo Guthrie
Flying Home by Chris DeBurgh – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tE5VdDse5jQ
Also agree with Promised Land, although I’m partial to Elvis’s version
Definitely the B-52s classic from 1989 Roam Great video
You Belong To Me – Duprees “See the pyramids along the Nile . . .”
I have always liked Ramblin’ Man by The Allman Brothers Band.
You missed the #1 song on this list- back in the USSR! 1) Actually uses jet engines in the song, 2) Features BOAC prominently in the lyrics, and 3) It’s the Beatles.
Kinda narrow use but I love “Katmandu” by Bob Seger.
Graham Nash wrote “Just a Song Before I Go” in an airport leaving Hawaii about flying the “Friendly Skies “
I have two additions: Deep Purple’s “Highway Star”, and Bob Seger’s “Turn the Page”: “On a long and lonesome highway East of Omaha You can listen to the engine Moaning out his one-note song You can think about the woman Or the girl you knew the night before…”
Sailing—of course
Take your pick of Jimmy Buffett’s songs. Maybe “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes” would be on top. “Reading departure signs in some big airport reminds me of the places I’ve been. Visions of good times that brought so much pleasure, makes me want to go back again.”
Agree with Leaving on a Jet Plane
Also Changes Latitudes and Longitudes Reading departure signs in some big airport reminds me of the places I’ve been Visions of good times that brought so much pleasure makes me want to go back again If it suddenly ended tomorrow I could somehow adjust to the fall Good times and riches and son-of-a-bitches I’ve seen more than I can recall These changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes Nothing remains quite the same
Crosby, Stills & Nash – Just A Song Before I Go.
Loudon Wainwright III song “Rode Ode”
https://www.google.com/search?q=loudon+wainwrightt+III+on+the+road&rlz=1C1VDKB_enUS1002US1002&oq=loudon+wainwrightt+III+on+the+road&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIJCAEQIRgKGKABMgkIAhAhGAoYoAEyCQgDECEYChirAjIJCAQQIRgKGKsCMgkIBRAhGAoYqwLSAQoxNjg5MmowajE1qAIAsAIA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:26519f61,vid:e1DAPxCw8Dw,st:0
Albert Hammond – It Never Rains In Southern California (“Get aboard a westbound 747…”)
The Beatles Ticket to Ride.
I’m flying with Arlo Guthrie:
Comin’ into Los Angeles, Bringin’ in a coupla keys. Don’t touch my bags if you please, mister customs man
Fly Away by Lenny Kravitz.
Caro Emerald: Stuck
Holidays in the Sun – Sex Pistols Safe European Home – The Clash Holiday in Cambodia – Dead Kennedys
Time Passages Al Stewart
First verse “ It was late in December, the sky turned to snow All round the day was going down slow Night like a river beginning to flow I felt the beat of my mind go Drifting into time passages Years go falling in the fading light Time passages Buy me a ticket on the last train home tonight”
Also agree “Rhapsody in Blue.” United killed it with that ad campaign.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LeZOqp2g1k Album Jefferson Airplane takes off Song: Blues from an Airplane
Holiday Road by Lindsey Buckingham
Vacation by the Gogos
Bob Seger’s “Turn the Page” is the quintessential travel related road warrior song. It was coping and commiseration medicine during the endless weeks, months, and years of business travel
Willie Nelson: Bloody Mary Mooring Stebe Miller Band: Jetr airliner:
Lynryd Skynyrd call me ghe breeze.
ABBA “Happy Hawaii”
Bob Seger… “Roll Me Away”.
“Arriving Somewhere, But Not Here”, Porcupine Tree
For Spanish speakers, ‘Vuela Vuela’ by Magneto (a cover of french singer Desireless ‘Voyage Voyage’).
Agree with “Leavin’ on a Jet Plane”. I also like “Free Bird” and “Roll Me Away”.
One I’m surprised you missed given your travel patterns: “Have You Ever Seen Dallas from a DC-9 at Night” by Jimmy Dale Gilmore.
Dierks Bentley ‘Drunk on a plane’ seems like another good option…
Yeah, I’m a jet-age baby, having started flying in the swingin’ 60’s….
Leaving on a Jet Plane
All my bags are packed, I’m ready to go I’m standing here outside your door I hate to wake you up to say goodbye But the dawn is breaking, it’s early morn The taxi’s waiting, he’s blowin’ his horn Already I’m so lonesome I could die
[Chorus] So kiss me and smile for me Tell me that you’ll wait for me Hold me like you’ll never let me go ‘Cause I’m leaving on a jet plane Don’t know when I’ll be back again Oh babe, I hate to go
[Verse 2] There’s so many times I’ve let you down So many times I’ve played around I tell you now, they don’t mean a thing Every place I go, I’ll think of you Every song I sing, I’ll sing for you When I come back, I’ll bring your wedding ring
“Jet Airliner”
Leavin’ home, out on the road I’ve been down before Ridin’ along in this big ol’ jet plane I’ve been thinkin’ about my home But my love light seems so far away And I feel like it’s all been done Somebody’s tryin’ to make me stay You know I’ve got to be movin’ on
Oh, Oh big ol’ jet airliner Don’t carry me too far away Oh, Oh big ol’ jet airliner Cause it’s here that I’ve got to stay
Goodbye to all my friends at home Goodbye to people I’ve trusted I’ve got to go out and make my way I might get rich you know I might get busted But my heart keeps calling me backwards As I get on the 707 Ridin’ high I got tears in my eyes You know you got to go through hell Before you get to heaven
Big ol’ jet airliner Don’t carry me too far away Oh, Oh big ol’ jet airliner Cause it’s here that I’ve got to stay
Touchin’ down in New England town Feel the heat comin’ down I’ve got to keep on keepin’ on You know the big wheel keeps on spinnin’ around And I’m goin’ with some hesitation You know that I can surely see That I don’t want to get caught up in any of that Funky shit goin’ down in the city
Oh, Oh big ol’ jet airliner Don’t carry me too far away Oh, Oh big ol’ jet airliner Cause it’s here that I’ve got to stay Yeah, yeah yeah, yeah
Oh, Oh big ol’ jet airliner Carry me to my home Oh, Oh big ol’ jet airliner Cause it’s there that I belong
For Amtrak people: (I suppose the quirky and adventuresoe Jet Set is not adverse to train travel, for a fully rounded travel experience. And, yes, I’ve traveled everything from Acela First Class and European Fast Train to African Coach and South Asian Coach. As Peter Sarstedt sang, And when the snow falls you’re found in St. Moritz With the others of the jet set)
“Last Train to London” is a single by Electric Light Orchestra
It was 9:29 9:29, back street, big city The sun was going down There was music all around It felt so right
[Verse 2] It was one of those nights One of those nights when you feel the world stop turning You were standing there There was music in the air I should’ve been away But I knew I had to stay
[Chorus] Last train to London, just heading out Last train to London, just leaving town But I really want tonight to last forever I really wanna be with you Let the music play on down the line tonight
[Verse 3] It was one of those nights One of those nights when you feel a fire is burning Everybody was there Everybody to share It was so right
Last Train to Clarksville The Monkees
Take the last train to Clarksville And I’ll meet you at the station You can be here by four thirty ‘Cause I’ve made your reservation Don’t be slow Oh, no, no, no Oh, no, no, no
[Verse 2] ‘Cause I’m leaving in the morning And I must see you again We’ll have one more night together (Train) ‘Til the morning brings my train and I must go Oh, no, no, no Oh, no, no, no And I don’t know if I’m ever coming home
[Verse 3] Take the last train to Clarksville (Train) I’ll be waiting at the station We’ll have time for coffee-flavored kisses (Train) And a bit of conversation, oh Oh, no, no, no Oh, no, no, no
White Room Cream
In the white room with black curtains near the station Black roof country, no gold pavements, tired starlings Silver horses ran down moonbeams in your dark eyes Dawnlight smiles on you leaving, my contentment
I’ll wait in this place where the sun never shines Wait in this place where the shadows run from themselves
You said no strings could secure you at the station Platform ticket, restless diesels, goodbye windows I walked into such a sad time at the station As I walked out, felt my own need just beginning
I’ll wait in the queue when the trains come back Lie with you where the shadows run from themselves
At the party, she was kindness in the hard crowd Consolation for the old wound now forgotten Yellow tigers crouched in jungles in her dark eyes She’s just dressing, goodbye windows, tired starlings
I’ll sleep in this place with the lonely crowd Lie in the dark where the shadows run from themselves

Home where my music’s playing
Home where my love lies waiting
Silently for me”

This is all so crazy
Everybody seems so famous
My tummy’s turnin’ and I’m feelin’ kinda homesick
Too much pressure and I’m nervous
That’s when the taxi man turned on the radio
And a JAY-Z song was on
So I put my hands up
They’re playin’ my song, the butterflies fly away
I’m noddin’ my head like, “Yeah”
Movin’ my hips like, “Yeah”

72 Best Songs about Travel and Adventure
Published by sarah vaughan on february 9, 2022 february 9, 2022.
In this article, we list our top 72 favorite songs about travel and adventure, with the option to listen to them on a Spotify playlist. As full-time nomads and constant road-trippers, we spend a lot of time in the car, which means hours upon hours of listening to music. In 2021 alone, we drove over 10,000 miles on our journey from Virginia to California and back. So needless to say, we spend an inordinate amount of time listening to music in the car.
Often, we find ourselves gravitating towards songs that align with our two favorite things – travel and adventure, but it can be hard to find songs that fit that mood. Songs that inspire wanderlust, that make you feel like a you just took a deep breath of mountain air, that remind you of a travel memory, or, in their own unique way, perfectly capture the essence of life on the road. It’s not one particular genre or type of music, just anything that makes you feel inspired to pack your bags and go on an adventure !

Our life as nomads
In March of 2021, we sold most our belongings, packed up what was left into our Jeep Cherokkee, left our apartment in Virginia and hit the road: California bound! We drove from Virginia to St. Louis before making our way to Denver.
After spending a week in Denver, we continued to Southern California, then to southern Utah, Arizona, northern California, Idaho, South Dakota, Minnesota… eventually we decided we loved life on the road too much to ever give it up and we made this nomadic lifestyle permanent.
We both secured jobs that would allow us to work remotely full-time during the week and are now full-time nomads. We typically settle into a new “home base” each month with space for us both to work, usually in small towns strategically located near beautiful places with abundant opportunities for outdoor adventuring.

If you’re planning a trip, setting off on a new adventure, or just dreaming of future travels, you are sure to find some lyrics you relate to from the songs below.
As we packed up our lives in Virginia and planned to become full-time nomads, we found ourselves relating to Rob Baird’s “Fade Away”. We were certainly packing our “ bags a little heavy this time” , with no immediate plans to return to the place that we had always called home, but we were so “ ready for the big ol’ world ” and the pain of leaving home was overshadowed by our urge to explore!

Perhaps my favorite song on this list, “Blue Above the Green” by Mike Edel perfectly captures that feeling you get when you’ve reached the summit after hiking up a mountain. When you look up, all you can see is green leaves and blue sky. If you’re a hiker, this may become your new favorite song!

Hollow Coves’ song “The Open Road” perfectly describes the urge to travel, when you’ve been feeling stuck in your hometown for too long and you just “ miss the way it feels to roam “, that feeling of freedom that the open road ahead of you brings, as every twist and turn brings the possibility for new adventure.

Wherever your travels take you, these songs are sure to add new places to your bucket list!
During our 2021 road trip , we absolutely fell in love with Idaho (so much so that we ended up buying a piece of land…), and we played Yonder Mountain String Band’s song Idaho on repeat as we road tripped from Idaho Falls to the Sawtooth Mountains. About the artists
We love all the artists and bands on this list, but we wanted to highlight a few of our favorites.
When I find a new artist that I love, I can listen to their songs on repeat for hours. This is Caamp for me! We started listening to their songs on our first cross country road trip and then went to a Caamp concert and we’ve been hooked ever since!
Evan Westfall, Taylor Meier and Matt Vinson make up the trio behind this American Folk band originally from Ohio. Caamp released their first album in 2016 and has been gaining popularity ever since. Many of their songs are about nature, being outdoors, and traveling, which is part of why we love them so much!
The National Parks
Songs from The National Parks take up several spots on our list of the best 72 songs about travel and adventure! This Indie folk/pop band formed in Provo, Utah consists of 4 members, Brady Parks, Sydney Macfarlane, Cam Brannelly and Megan Taylor Parks. They released their first single in 2013 and have since released four albums, “Wildflowers”, “Places”, “Until I Live”, and “Young”.
The National Parks songs have many songs about the beauty of the world around us, from the peaks of the Grand Tetons to the “painted sky” of the desert in the southwest. In fact, their single “As We Ran” was written for a short documentary by REI called “ Love in the Tetons” .
Hollow Coves
Another group that takes up a few spots on our list of songs about travel and adventure is Hollow Coves, an Australian Indie band led by sing-songwriters, Ryan Henderson and Matt Carins.
The band’s earthy folk songs are inspired by the singers’ own travels, and their passion for seeing the world shines through in their music. In fact, their first album released in 2017 was titled ‘Wanderlust”, and includes several of the songs on our list, such as “Coastline” and “The Woods.”

Playlist – Top 20 Travel Songs for Wanderlusters
If there’s one thing that I cannot live without on my travels, and life for that matter, is music. Throughout the years I went through the pop phase, then rock, metal, alternative, indie… Nowadays, with a bit more “wisdom” on these bones, I like a lit bit of everything. I like good music, basically. No labels, no prejudices. If it’s good, it goes into my playlist. And you know how a good soundtrack can make all the difference in a movie? The same thing happens to me with travels.
A long bus, train or plane trip wouldn’t be the same without the songs that usually make my mind travel when I’m back at home. I usually spend hours on end working on the music selection for my iPhone before leaving for the trip. That’s why I decided to share a playlist of 20 of the best travel songs here on Joland. Below you’ll find a description and video for each one and at the end of the post the complete playlist on Spotify.
1| “The Passenger” – Iggy Pop
A true classic and as such, number 1 in this playlist of travel songs . “ I am a passenger and I ride and I ride … “. There is no way to listen to this song and not feel overwhelmed by a desire to immediately leave with a one-way ticket.
2| “Riders on the Storm” – The Doors
Another timeless classic. What a song. Try listening to it on a train or bus trip while the rain hits your window, and get ready to enter another dimension right away.
3| “Hopeless Wanderer” – Mumford & Sons
This is one of those travel songs that immediately starts me thinking about my next destination. “ Don’t let your heart grow cold ,” they say. I couldn’t agree more.
4| “Ramble on” – Led Zepellin
With lyrics inspired by the book “The Lord of the Rings” by JRR Tolkien, this one is, without a doubt, one of the greatest classics of all time. The ring is replaced on the song by the search for a bigger-than-life love all around the world. It speaks of freedom and the eternal search for happiness. And what can you want more? 😉
5| “Mausam” – Nitin Sawhney
India is a country that has has been forever fascinating me. And Nitin Sawhney’s songs, especially those on the “Beyond Skin” album, take me straight there, whenever I hear them. “Mausam” talks about the changes that take place in our life over time. Of sadness, happiness, and the balance that must exist between one emotion and the other.
6| “Ticket to Ride” – The Beatles
This song has always been part of my playlists of travel songs. The obvious interpretation of the lyrics would be related to travel, with the departure of the girl he likes. But in reality, there are several theories behind the lyrics, including one that refers to the days spent by the band members in the Red Light District in Hamburg, Germany. Regardless of what the song really means, we can all agree that it is an excellent one, right?
7| “Roam” – B52’s
The lyrics of this song say it all: “ Fly the skies, see the seas, run around all the continents. Go ahead, roam without a care. ”
8| “Wonderlust King” – Gogol Bordello
Few songs have lyrics as related to travelling the world, new experiences and living life to the fullest as “Wonderlust King” by Gogol Bordello. “ But I’m a wonderlust king. I stay on the run, let me out, let me be gone .“
9| “Fast Car” – Tracy Chapman
The feeling of freedom that you get when you get into your car and hit the road with no destination. Although the song is not directly related to travel, is it or is it not a perfect road trip song?
10| “The Golden Age” – Beck
“ Put your hands on the wheel. Let the golden age begin, let the window down, feel the moonlight on your skin. Let the desert wind cool your aching head. Let the weight of the world drift away instead. ” And what about that guitar riff right at the beginning …? This is it, isn’t it?
11| “The Sea” – Morcheeba
Travel to a beach destination far away and while looking at the horizon, listen to this song. Then tell me if it doesn’t make sense to include it in a playlist of travel songs . “ I left my soul there, down by the sea. I lost control here, living free. “
12| “I drove all night” – Cindy Lauper
A classic from the 80s, by the great Cindy Lauper. One of the most romantic songs ever, but also one of the most perfect ones for road trips.
13| “Here I go again” – White Snake
This song by White Snake has everyone singing its chorus passionately, don’t even bother denying it! The ultimate lone traveller song.
14| “Hard Sun” – Eddie Vedder
Who hasn’t dreamed of being Cristopher McCandless at least once when while watching the movie “ Into the Wild “? The idea of leaving everything behind and exploring the world with utter freedom is something that inevitably touches us. We always begin our search by checking out honest reviews on TripAdvisor hotels. This allows us to narrow our search for specific properties once we are ready to book. Of course, you can also book directly on the TripAdvisor site!
There are several accommodation sites that we like to use. One of our favorites is Booking.com because it offers a wide variety of hotels and guesthouses at a good price.
Another “go-to” hotel booking site for us is Hotels.com . We love their loyalty program that allows you to earn free nights, and their “secret prices” for members are fabulous deals!
HotelsCombined is another cool site. They allow you to compare all the top travel sites with one search to ensure you find the best deal out there. Kayak works in this way as well.

This list is already fuelling my wanderlust! I am on the same boat as you, that I love specific songs, not necessarily belonging to the same genre. By the way, while reading this, I just started playing some of these songs, my favorites from the list :-)
This is so fun to know! Thank you, Pubali. I hope you enjoyed it!

What a comprehensive and varied list - includes some of my favorite artists like Coldplay...totally unexpected. Nevertheless, you're actually starting with the cheesiest song ever - it really made me love - and then I had this tune for hours in my head.

Haha. I didn't think of that, Renata but I see it and agree with you :)

75 Travel Songs to add to your Playlist in 2024 – Mixtape #2
We curated the second mixtape of the best travel songs.
This list features classic songs about traveling to brand new tracks.
You can find more travel songs here:
- Summer Mixtape #1 for the perfect travelers playlist
- 17 best Backpacker Songs you’ve to know
- 10 songs for exploring the world
This list features a lot of cool songs you’ve to put on your phone. However, and always remember this, go out there and create your own travel songs.
What do we mean by that?
During your travels you will end up in a lot of fun situations.
You will collect memories, and a few songs will take part in it. Then, when you are back home or wherever, you will hear this special song in the radio – and it takes you right back to those fun situations you will cherish forever.
For us, this is for instance “We don’t talk anymore” – we traveled Vietnam for 3 months and some local in every single village, town and city played it at least once. We turned crazy, yet it’s today a part of the experience. Then in Labuan Bajo, while taking the boat cruise around the Komodo National Park, the boat crew only had only one song to play, HIOKO TOBELO 2 – Yopie Latul .

I included my personal favorite travel song as #75.

Please be patient and wait for the YouTube video to load.
1. Ricky Nelson – Travelin’ Man
I’m a travelin’ man I’ve made a lot of stops all over the world And in every part I own the heart Of at least one lovely girl
I’ve a pretty Señorita waiting for me Down in old Mexico If you’re ever in Alaska stop and see My cute little Eskimo
Oh, my sweet Fraulein down in Berlin town Makes my heart start to yearn And my China doll down in old Hong Kong Waits for my return
Pretty Polynesian baby over the sea I remember the night When we walked in the sands of the Waikiki And I held you, oh so tight
2. The Melodic – “On My Way”
I found an open door (I’m on my way) I think of love once more (I’m on my way)
Precious time on your own Seeing more than you care to say And the mist falls away (I’m on my way)
At times I’ve tried to feel (I’m on my way) With the thoughts I tried to steal (I’m on my way)
Left forgotten like young love All the choices I am made of When the push comes to shove
3. Passenger – Traveling Alone
Australian man, Scandinavian tan, Kicking stones round a square. Sat for a while and carved out a smile, As if someone would care.
Said I’m a long way from the Gold Coast. Furthest I’ve ever known, Oh and this just ain’t my home. It was my wife’s idea, but she’s no longer here. She left me travelling alone.
I never heard silence ring out like a bell. I never heard silence like last night in my expensive hotel. Well, I’m loving a shadow, I’m trying to catch the rain. But I never heard silence ’til I heard it today.
She walked out of the hotel, I could still smell the smoke of the burning heart left inside. She said men are all assholes And life’s a bad joke. She laughed and started to cry.
See, ten years with this man, And a life time of plans, Oh, and I loved him to his bones. Now I’ve lines on my skin And he’s traded me in. He left me travelling alone.
Well, I never felt silence hit me like a train. I never felt silence like blood coursed through my veins. Well, I’m loving a shadow, and I’m trying to catch the rain. I never heard silence ’til I heard it today. I never felt silence ’til I felt it today.
4. Band of Horses – The Funeral
I’m coming up only to hold you under I’m coming up only to show you wrong And to know you is hard, we wonder To know you, all wrong we were
Ooh-ooh Ooh-ooh
Really too late to call, so We wait for Morning to wake you, that’s all we got To know me as hardly golden Is to know me all wrong, they were
At every occasion, I’ll be ready for the funeral Every occasion, once more, it’s called the funeral Every occasion, know I’m ready for the funeral Every occasion, oh, one billion-day funeral
5. X Ambassadors – Renegades
Run away with me Lost souls and reverie Running wild and running free Two kids, you and me
6. Noah And The Whale – Blue Skies
This is a song for anyone with a broken heart This is a song for anyone who can’t get out of bed
I’ll do anything to be happy
Oh, ’cause blue skies are coming
But I know that it’s hard
This is the last song that I write while still in love with you This is the last song that I write while you’re even on my mind
’cause it’s time to leave those feelings behind Oh, ’cause blue skies are coming But I know that it’s hard
7. Coldplay – Adventure Of A Lifetime
Turn your magic on, to me she’d say Everything you want’s a dream away We are legends, every day That’s what she told him
I feel my heart beating I feel my heart beneath my skin I feel my heart beating Oh, you make me feel
Like I’m alive again Alive again Oh, you make me feel Like I’m alive again
8. Red Hot Chili Peppers – Californication
Psychic spies from China try to steal your mind’s elation And little girls from Sweden dream of silver screen quotation And if you want these kind of dreams it’s Californication It’s the edge of the world and all of western civilization
The sun may rise in the East at least it’s settled in a final location It’s understood that Hollywood sells Californication Pay your surgeon very well to break the spell of aging Celebrity skin is this your chin or is that war you’re waging?
9. Of Monsters and Men – Dirty Paws
Jumping up and down the floor My head is an animal And once there was an animal It had a son that mowed the lawn The son was an OK guy They had a pet dragonfly The dragonfly it ran away But it came back with a story to say
Her dirty paws and furry coat She ran down the forest slope The forest of talking trees They used to sing about the birds and the bees The bees had declared a war The sky wasn’t big enough for them all The birds, they got help from below From dirty paws and the creatures of snow
10. Foo Fighters – These Days
One of these days, the ground will drop out from beneath your feet One of these days, your heart will stop and play it’s final beat
One of these days, the clocks will stop and time won’t mean a thing One of these days, their bombs will drop and silence everything
But it’s alright, yeah it’s alright, said it’s alright Easy for you to say Your heart has never been broken Your pride has never been stolen Not yet, not yet, one of these days I bet your heart ‘ll be broken I bet your pride ‘ll be stolen I’ll bet, I’ll bet, I’ll bet, I’ll bet One of these days, one of these days
11. David Bowie – Heroes
I, I wish you could swim Like the dolphins Like dolphins can swim Though nothing, nothing will keep us together
We can beat them, forever and ever
Oh, we can be heroes just for one day
I, I will be King And you, you will be Queen Though nothing will drive them away We can be heroes just for one day We can be us just for one day
12. Ben Howard – Old Pine
Hot sand on toes, cold sand in sleeping bags I’ve come to know that memories Were the best things you ever had The summer shone beat down on bony backs
So far from home where the ocean stood Down dust and pine cone tracks We slept like dogs down by the fire side Awoke to the fog all around us
The boom of summer time We stood Steady as the stars in the woods So happy-hearted
And the warmth rang true inside these bones As the old pine fell we sang Just to bless the morning
13. The Byrds – I Wasn’t Born To Follow
Recommended by the Hostelgeeks community member Alexandra.
No I’d rather go and journey Where the diamond crescent’s glowing And run across the valley Beneath the sacred mountain And wander through the forest
Where the trees have leaves of prisms And break the light in colors That no one know the names of
And when it’s time I’ll go and lay Beside the legendary fountain ‘Till I see her form reflected
In its clear and jewelled waters And if you think I’m ready You may lead me to the chasm Where the rivers of our visions Flow into one another
14. Imagine Dragons – Not Today
There she goes in front of me Take my life and set me free again We’ll make a memory out of it Holy road is at my back Don’t look on, take me back again
We’ll make a memory out of it We finally fall apart and we break each other’s hearts
If we wanna live young, love, we better start today It’s gotta get easier, oh easier somehow
‘Cause I’m falling, I’m falling Oh easier and easier somehow
Oh I’m calling, I’m calling And it isn’t over, unless it is over I don’t wanna wait for that It’s gotta get easier and easier somehow But not today Not today
15. Mumford & Sons – Hopeless Wanderer
You heard my voice, I came out of the woods by choice Shelter also gave their shade But in the dark I have no name So leave that click in my head And I will remember the words that you said Left a clouded mind and a heavy heart But I am sure we could see a new start So when your hopes on fire But you know your desire Don’t hold a glass over the flame Don’t let your heart grow cold I will call you by name I will share your road
But hold me fast, hold me fast ‘Cause I’m a hopeless wanderer And hold me fast, hold me fast ‘Cause I’m a hopeless wanderer
16. Paper Lions – Travelling
Travelling the road, last known is where I want to be My compass directing, electing, an open road with golden trees But there’s an old man in need on the ground, I try not to make a sound He holds out his hand as I walk away, I hear him say
Please don’t be a stranger in my place Travelling come to a tavern for a momentary rest
I see the old man that I passed on the road in his distress As I turned to go I can hear him say, “Son, stay. Have a drink, I’ll pay.” Let bygones be gone, it’s all in the past, we raise a glass Please don’t be a stranger in my place
What if I could be what you wanted me to be What if I could see what you wanted me to see Come on and show me Please don’t be a stranger in my place

You’re in love with something bigger than love You believe in something stronger than trust
Wanderlust Wanderlust

24. Green day – Time of your life
Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go
So make the best of this test, and don’t ask why It’s not a question, but a lesson learned in time It’s something unpredictable, but in the end it’s right I hope you had the time of your life
So take the photographs, and still-frames in your mind Hang them on a shelf in good health and good time Tattoo’s of memories and dead skin on trial For what it’s worth, it was worth all the while
It’s something unpredictable, but in the end it’s right I hope you had the time of your life
25. The Script – Hall of Fame

Road trippin’ with my two favorite allies Fully loaded we got snacks and supplies It’s time to leave this town it’s time to steal away Let’s go get lost anywhere in the U.S.A.
Let’s go get lost, let’s go get lost
Blue you sit so pretty West of the one Sparkles light with yellow icing, just a mirror for the sun Just a mirror for the sun Just a mirror for the sun
These smiling eyes are just a mirror for So much as come before those battles lost and won This life is shining more forever in the sun Now let us check our heads and let us check the surf Staying high and dry’s More trouble than it’s worth in the sun

33. José González – Stay Alive
There’s a rhythm in rush these days Where the lights don’t move and the colors don’t fade Leaves you empty with nothing but dreams
In a world gone shallow In a world gone lean
Sometimes there’s things a man cannot know Gears won’t turn and the leaves won’t grow There’s no place to run and no gasoline
Engine won’t turn And the train won’t leave
Engines won’t turn and the train won’t leave I will stay with you tonight
Hold you close ‘til the morning light In the morning watch a new day rise We’ll do whatever just to stay alive We’ll do whatever just to stay alive

Moving up your spine
35. The Chainsmokers – Paris
We were staying in Paris To get away from your parents And I thought, “Wow If I could take this in a shot right now I don’t think that we could work this out” Out on the terrace I don’t know if it’s fair but I thought “How Could I let you fall by yourself While I’m wasted with someone else”

And so I’d thought I’d let you know That these things take forever, I especially am slow But I realized that need you And I wondered if I could come home
I remember the time you drove all night Just to meet me in the morning And I thought it was strange, you said everything changed You felt as if you just woke up

A fake Jamaican took every last dime with that scam It was worth it just to learn some sleight of hand Bad news comes, don’t you worry even when it lands Good news will work it way to all them plans We both got fired on, exactly, the same day Well, we’ll float on, good news is on the way

Afraid to lose control And caught up in this world I’ve wasted time, I’ve wasted breath I think I’ve thought myself to death
70. Passenger | The Wrong Direction
When I was a kid the things I did were hidden under the grid Young and naive I never believed that love could be so well hid With regret I’m willing to bet and say the older you get It gets harder to forgive and harder to forget It gets under your shirt like a dagger at work The first cut is the deepest but the rest still flipping hurt You build your heart of plastic Get cynical and sarcastic And end up in the corner on your own
‘Cause I’d love to feel love but I can’t stand the rejection I hide behind my jokes as a form of protection I thought I was close but under further inspection It seems I’ve been running in the wrong direction oh no

Hey Lord, would ya look out for her tonight And make sure that all her dreams are sweet Said now, would ya guide her on the roads And make them softer for her feet Hey Lord, would ya look out for her tonight And make sure that she’s gonna be alright Until she’s home and here with me

Outside the frame, is what we’re leaving out You won’t remember anyway I can go with the flow But don’t say it doesn’t matter anymore I can go with the flow Do you believe it in your head? It’s so safe to play along Little soldiers in a row Falling in and out of love With something sweet to throw away. But I want something good to die for To make it beautiful to live. I want a new mistake, lose is more than hesitate. Do you believe it in your head? I can go with the flow But don’t say it doesn’t matter anymore I can go with the flow Do you believe it in your head?
75. Maïa Vidal – Our Place
Last but not least, the ultimate travel song to wanderlust. I’d like to stay here For a while And go wild You’ll call me crazy But I don’t care ‘Cause I know where

Messaging like nights before, crashing through the wall I’m using all my strength and breath, I’m gonna show them all
You talk of my impending doom, no promise nor a myth You justify avoiding me to sell out on a whiff
Oh if I, I want to be the lonely one, I want to be the only one And if I, lord I And if I, I want to be the chosen one, I want to be the chosen one And if I, lord I
Don’t you tire of telling me? ‘The world ends at the sky, You’re just a little fish another simple passer by, All your songs and poetry are droplets in the sea’ I said ‘That is ok for you, your words won’t follow me!’

1. Free – Trevor Hall
Trevor Hall wrote Free after his flight was delayed for seven hours, making him late to arrive for a performance in Squamish, Canada. He arrived at Vancouver airport at 3am and rushed to the festival. During the drive the sun began to rise over the ocean, and he realised that if he wasn’t late he never would have witnessed that amazing scene. Travelling can be stressful at times, but above all else it’s a privilege and a gift. We can handle late flights, lost baggage, or whatever else it throws at us!

2. Guaranteed – Eddie Vedder
This song was an instant classic. Eddie Vedder wrote Guaranteed for the film “Into The Wild”, which you should definitely watch (or read the book!) if you aren’t familiar with the story. It’s all about going back to the basics, living a simple life and being free to do as you please.
3. Big Sur – Jack Johnson
What’s a travel playlist without some Jack Johnson? Big Sur gives us tropical, surfy vibes, but we like listening to it wherever we are. It’s about about briefly escaping the things we can’t avoid in life, being surrounded by your best friends and getting lost in conversations that only end because you have to go to bed. Sound familiar?
4. New York – Cat Power
Cat Power’s cover of “New York, New York” is one of our favourites by far. The song was originally written for Martin Scorsese’s film New York, New York (sorry for saying New York so much) and was re-recorded by Frank Sinatra in 1979, which is the most famous version of the song. But we think this version is super special! The song is about the stiff competition and valuable rewards that can be found in New York City, and it makes us want to go there every time we hear it.

5. Step Out – José González
Step Out was written for the film “The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty”, which if you’ve seen you’ll understand why it had to be included in the playlist. This song (and the film) is all about getting out of your comfort zone and leaving behind the things that make you feel too “at home”, so it’s pretty perfect for us!

6. Sunny – Bobby Hebb
Everyone knows this one! Sunny is definitely about a love that eases the pain during a difficult time in life, and in a way, isn’t that travel for all of us?
7. Here’s To Now – Ugly Casanova
Here’s another song from a movie. Here’s To Now was written for the film “ 180° South: Conquerors of the Useless”, a documentary of a man retracing the steps of Doug Tompkins and Yvon Chouinard, the founders of The North Face and Patagonia, respectively. It’s a pretty epic journey as he drives south from Ventura, California to Patagonia, Chile (get it? 180° South?) and then climbs Corcovado Volcano. Here’s To Now is a perfect travel song because it’s about living in the moment, but also planning ahead. You know, the classic “should I plan my trip now or be spontaneous when I get there?” dilemma.
8. These Old Shoes – Deer Tick
These Old Shoes is about travelling long distances and getting to your love by any means necessary, which is pretty much how we feel when we know there’s a cold pint waiting for us at our next destination.
9. Riders On The Storm – The Doors
Another classic song that’s always been on our road trip playlists. Riders On The Storm is largely about how we’re a tiny part of a massive, chaotic universe, which is both terrifying and comforting at the same time.
10. Fast Car – Tracy Chapman
Tracy Chapman hit it out of the park with Fast Car. It’s been a favourite family road trip song for many of us even when we were kids, so there’s a bit of nostalgia there, but it’s also appropriate for a travel playlist as it’s all about chasing a dream. Sometimes you just gotta get away!
11. Old Pine – Ben Howard
Old Pine is a perfect song about creating memories, growing up and being completely intoxicated by an experience. We think everyone has memories that this song will bring back, or maybe you’ll make new ones to it, you do you.
12. Mountain House – Blue Child Collective
Mountain House is for the people that come across places in their travels and wish they could just build a hostel and live there forever. You might not, but you can sure dream about it.
13. The Stars Keep On Calling My Name – Mac Demarco
The Stars Keep On Calling My Name is another one that follows the “get out of town, escape the same old routine” trend, which is pretty relatable. This one always has us tapping our feet and bobbing our heads on the plane/train/bus #noshame.
14. Something Good – Alt-J
Something about Something Good makes us feel like we’re flying through the air, even if we’re just at the kitchen sink washing up. This song is about mending a broken heart with fun distractions. Maybe that resonates with you, maybe it doesn’t, either way this song is a good’un.
15. Silver Timothy – Damien Jurado
Silver Timothy is part of two records that Damien Jurado created, telling the story of a dream he had about a man who leaves his home with no form of ID and wanders through the desert. It’s more or less about trying to disappear and find yourself, but it’s a little adventurous too.
16. The Air That I Breathe – The Hollies
Another song about forgetting everything that brings you down and just being happy with someone special, The Air That I Breathe is a good one to get you into relaxation mode.
17. The Time And The Weight – Current Swell
The Time And The Weight is a bit heavy. It focuses on how time is fleeting, and the weight that comes along with making the right decisions with the time we have. So why not plan a trip to experience something new?
18. Fisher – Camel Power Club
Fisher is a nice reminder to stop comparing yourself to others and just have the most fun you can have for you.
19. So Tired – Crumb
We added So Tired to the playlist, because to us it says a lot about being frustrated with the world as it is and trying to escape for a bit.
20. On A Coconut Island – Louis Armstrong
Louis Armstrong took beach vibes and put them directly into a song with On A Coconut Island. It takes us back to eating homemade ice cream on tropical islands and watching the sailboats go by while the waves crash onto the beach and wash up to our feet. Good times.
21. Amsterdam – Peter Bjorn and John
Amsterdam is another heavy song, but it’s still a classic that we had to include. It isn’t exactly about Amsterdam itself, but more about someone you love going off to do better things and then being stuck thinking about how well they’re doing without you (yep, pretty saddening – sorry). Maybe a trip to Amsterdam is what you need to turn that frown upside down?
22. The World At Large – Modest Mouse
This has been a favourite song since the days of sitting in the backseat of our parent’s cars going on road trips. The World At Large is about a drifter who isn’t exactly sure what they’re looking for or what they want, but they know that everything will be okay in the end. It’s the perfect song to ease our restlessness. The World At Large flows perfectly into Float On on the same album. Listen to them back to back for pure chilled vibes.
23. Mountain Sound – Of Monsters And Men
We threw in Mountain Sound because it makes us think of hiking through Iceland and gets us hyped up to go one day (Of Monsters and Men are from Reykjavik, BTW). The song is also about realising the true weight of your actions, not the weight you perceive that they have, so maybe that will speak to you?
24. Tomorrow Comes Today – Gorillaz
In all honesty we’re not 100% sure what this song is about or why we love having it in a travel playlist. We’re pretty sure it touches on not wanting to be on the camera or surrounded by all the technology of the digital age – there’s more to your trip than how it makes your Instagram look, after all.
25. St. Elsewhere – Gnarls Barkley
CeeLo Green and Danger Mouse are a pretty iconic duo, so we had to include St. Elsewhere even though it’s another song that’s widely open to interpretation. At first it sounds perfect because it’s obviously about getting away and not wanting to be tied down or held back, but we’re pretty sure there’s more to it than that and are open to suggestions.
26. Tighten Up – The Black keys
Less about travel and more about running wild for love, we think Tighten Up is still relevant to our travel playlist. Our hero used to run wild until he met someone that made him ready to slow down, unfortunately, that person is still running around doing their own thing. 😔
27. Gotta Travel On – Bob Dylan
There are tons of different versions of Gotta Travel On, with variations in lyrics and titles, but Bob Dylan’s is probably the most well known. The lyrics are pretty straight forward – he’s been in the same old town for too long and it’s time for him to move on. Been there.
28. City Lights – The White Stripes
City Lights encompasses the feeling of looking out the plane window at night and seeing the glowing city lights of your destination. Isn’t that just the best?
29. Holiday – Ocean Alley
Holiday is pretty much just about letting loose on vacation, doesn’t get much simpler than that!
30. I Mua – Nahko And Medicine For The People
One of the translations of “I Mua” from Hawaiian to English is “to move forward”. Nahko wrote this song as a tribute to Mauna Kea, the volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii, but it’s also a celebration of life. We think it suits our travel playlist because of how lucky we are to be able to see the world the way we can nowadays.

Let’s start with a bit Traveling Wilburys, these guys know how to make your trip more pleasant with a song.
1. Traveling Wilburys – End Of The Line
Well it’s all right, riding around in the breeze Well it’s all right if you live the life you please Well it’s all right, doing the best you can Well it’s all right, as long as you lend a hand
You can sit around and wait for the phone to ring (End of the Line) Waiting for someone to tell you everything (End of the Line) Sit around and wonder what tomorrow will bring (End of the Line) Maybe a diamond ring
2. A Thousand Miles – Vanessa Carlton
If I could fall into the sky Do you think time would pass me by? ‘Cause you know I’d walk a thousand miles If I could just see you tonight
It’s always times like these When I think of you And I wonder if you ever think of me ‘Cause everything’s so wrong And I don’t belong Living in your precious memory
‘Cause I need you And I miss you And now I wonder
3. Kongos – Traveling On
So long my friend, my foe, my love, my pain The road’s calling out my name Dreaming of La Boheme Maybe I’ll go to Barbizon Or see a girl before she catches cold and she’s gone Or maybe I’ll just travel on Travel on
So long my flame, my warmth, my fear, my fight The road’s calling again tonight Dreaming under street lights Maybe I’ll catch a train to Rome See the world until I can’t go on Then maybe I’ll come traveling home
4. Travelling – Paper Lions
Travelling the road, last known is where I want to be My compass directing, electing, an open road with golden trees But there’s an old man in need on the ground, I try not to make a sound He holds out his hand as I walk away, I hear him say
Please don’t be a stranger in my place Traveling come to a tavern for a momentary rest I see the old man that I passed on the road in his distress As I turned to go I can hear him say, “Son, stay. Have a drink, I’ll pay.”
5. Peter, Paul, and Mary – Leaving on a Jet Plane.
So kiss me and smile for me Tell me that you’ll wait for me Hold me like you’ll never let me go
I’m leavin’ on a jet plane I don’t know when I’ll be back again Oh babe, I hate to go
Now the time has come to leave you One more time let me kiss you Then close your eyes, I’ll be on my way
Dream about the days to come When I won’t have to leave alone About the time, I won’t have to say
6. John Denver – Take Me Home, Country Roads
Almost heaven, West Virginia, Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River. Life is old there, older than the trees, younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze.
Country roads, take me home to the place I belong. West Virginia, mountain mamma, take me home, country roads.
All my memories gather round her, miner’s lady, stranger to blue water. Dark and dusty, painted on the sky, misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye.
7. Passenger – Travelling Alone
This song is a very special one. It is about an old man traveling the world – missing his passed wife.
I included the video where Passenger explains the story behind the traveling song.
This is the full song and the official video:
8. Ricky Nelson – Travelin’ Man 1961
I’m a travelin’ man Made a lot of stops all over the world And in every port I own the heart Of at least one lovely girl
I’ve a pretty Seniorita waiting for me Down in old Mexico If you’re ever in Alaska stop and see My cute little Eskimo
Oh, my sweet Fraulien down in Berlin town Makes my heart start to yearn And my China doll down in old Hong Kong Waits for my return
Pretty Polynesian baby, over the sea I remember the night When we walked in the sand of Waikiki And I held you, oh, so tight
9. BUDAPEST – George Ezra
My house in Budapest My, my hidden treasure chest Golden grand piano My beautiful Castillo
You Ooh, you Ooh, I’d leave it all
My acres of a land That I’ve achieved It may be hard for you to Stop and believe
10. Bright Eyes “First Day Of My Life”
This is the first day of my life Swear I was born right in the doorway I went out in the rain, suddenly everything changed They’re spreading blankets on the beach
Yours was the first face that I saw I think I was blind before I met you I don’t know where I am, I don’t know where I’ve been But I know where I want to go
And so I’d thought I’d let you know That these things take forever, I especially am slow But I realized that need you And I wondered if I could come home
13. Matt Simons – Catch & Release
There’s a place I go to Where no one knows me It’s not lonely It’s a necessary thing It’s a place I made up Find out what I’m made of The nights are stayed up Counting stars and fighting sleep Let it wash over me Ready to lose my feet
Take me on to the place where one reviews life’s mistery Steady on down the line Lose every sense of time Take it all in and wake up that small part of me Day to day I’m blind to see And find how far To go
Everybody got their reason Everybody got their way We’re just catching and releasing What builds up throughout the day
14. Ed Sheeran ft. Kygo – Running Away
I’ve known it for a long time Daddy wakes up to a drink at nine Disappearing all night I don’t wanna know where he’s been lying I know what I wanna do Wanna run away, run away with you Gonna grab clothes, six in the morning go
How long you leaving? Well, dad, just don’t expect me back this evening Oh, it could take a bit of time to heal this It’s been a long day, thumb on side of the roadway, but
I love him from my skin to my bones But I don’t wanna live in his home There’s nothing to say ’cause he knows I’ll just run away and be on my own
I’ve never seen my dad cry Cold as stone in the kitchen light I’ll tell you it’s about time But I was raised to keep quiet This is what I’m gonna do Gonna run away, gonna make that move Gonna grab clothes and when it’s morning go How long you leaving? Well, dad, just don’t expect me back this evening Oh, it could take a bit of time to heal this It’s been a long day, thumb on side of the roadway, but
15. American Authors – What We Live For
This is what I live for Baby, you’re my open road You can take me anywhere the wind blows Right into the great unknown We can throw our hands up out the window This is what we live for We look up at the stars, a perfect night to dream with you Got nineties retro on the radio, our favorite tune I put the pedal to the metal just to laugh with you It’s interstellar when it’s just us two
16. Tom Walker – Fly Away With Me
I’m strummin on the corner About to catch the last train home I’ll have to jump the barriers So can you spare a penny for my thoughts I’ve been praised upon the pavements Passers by don’t pay much Chased away by neighbours Seen things you couldnt make up If the streets could talk they’d tell a story or two I’ll paint a picture for you
I can tell you what it feels like To lose your home on a cold night Can you see the blood in my red eyes Have another total forget life So come on fly away with me To a place where we could be anyone we wanna be And we can bottle up our fears Grow a taste so sweet, knock us off our feet and more Burn our troubles Inhale them all Paint our future on a fractured wall So come on fly away with me To a place where we can be anyone we wanna be
17. Epic Road Trip Acoustic/Folk/Indie Compilation – Summer 2017 (1-Hour Playlist) #3
18. Summer Drive Playlist (INDIE/POP/ALTERNATIVE MUSIC)
19. Daft Punk – Around The World
Around the world, around the world Around the world, around the world Around the world, around the world Around the world, around the world
20. Gorillaz – Feel Good Inc.
City’s breaking down on a camel’s back They just have to go ‘cause they don’t know whack So all you fill the streets, it’s appealin’ to see You won’t get out the county ‘cause you’re bad and free You got a new horizon, it’s ephemeral style A melancholy town where we never smile And all I wanna hear is the message beep
21. Ed Sheeran – Castle On The Hill
When I was six years old I broke my leg I was running from my brother and his friends And tasted the sweet perfume of the mountain grass I rolled down I was younger then, take me back to when I
Found my heart and broke it here Made friends and lost them through the years And I’ve not seen the roaring fields in so long, I know I’ve grown But I can’t wait to go home
I’m on my way Driving at ninety down those country lanes Singing to “Tiny Dancer” And I miss the way you make me feel, and it’s real We watched the sunset over the castle on the hill
22. CHANGE by Some Poetries
As long as I turn my face into the light
I leave dark things behind
It feels like
I’m alive, I’m alive, I’m alive for the first time
Just because we found each other
Just because we cross dark ways
Just because of the pretty face
23. Our Adventure (EP) – The Long Valley
We found this travel music by chance.
We were looking for the most beautiful cities to visit in France, when we came across this video.
This video has the background music of “The Long Valley” “Our Adventure”.
24. Asaf Avidan – One day / Reckoning Song
One day baby, we’ll be old Oh baby, we’ll be old And think of all the stories that we could have told One day baby, we’ll be old
Oh baby, we’ll be old And think of all the stories that we could have told
No more tears, my heart is dry I don’t laugh and I don’t cry I don’t think about you all the time But when I do, I wonder why
25. Part-Time Friends – Here We Are
Something rise and fall We thought we never lost control Here we are Something rise and fall We thought we never lost control Here we are Silence Et si les vagues éteignent nos âmes Dans l’étourdissant vacarme Here we are Dansent les milles visages Dans ce si beau mirage Here we are Je t’emmène une dernière fois suivre cette lumière qui ne s’éteint pas Here we are Something rise and fall We thought we never lost control Here we are Something rise and fall We thought we never lost control Here we are
26. Jose Gonzalez – Step Out (from the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty)
Dark as night, let the lightning guide you
Time to step outside, time to step outside Time to step outside you
House on fire, leave it all behind you. Living life, feeding appetites. Stayed through every hard stop, every go. Being bland Breathing half the time. House on fire, leave it all behind you. Dark as night, let the lightning guide you
27. Coldplay – Gravity
Baby It’s been a long time coming Such a long, long time And I can’t stop running Such a long, long time Can you hear my heart beating? Can you hear that sound? ‘Cause I can’t help thinking And I won’t stop now And then I looked up at the sun
And I could see Oh, the way that gravity pulls on you and me And then I looked up at the sky And saw the sun And the way that gravity pushes on everyone On everyone
28. Imagine Dragons – Not Today from ME BEFORE YOU
There she goes in front of me Take my life and set me free again We’ll make a memory out of it Holy road is at my back Don’t look on, take me back again We’ll make a memory out of it We finally fall apart and we break each other’s hearts If we wanna live young, love, we better start today It’s gotta get easier, oh easier somehow ‘Cause I’m falling, I’m falling Oh easier and easier somehow Oh I’m calling, I’m calling And it isn’t over, unless it is over I don’t wanna wait for that It’s gotta get easier and easier somehow But not today Not today
29. Alkey – Travel of life
30. On Top Of The World by Imagine Dragons
‘Cause I’m on top of the world, ‘ey I’m on top of the world, ‘ey Waiting on this for a while now Paying my dues to the dirt I’ve been waiting to smile, ‘ey Been holding it in for a while, ‘ey Take it with me if I can Been dreaming of this since a child I’m on top of the world
I’ve tried to cut these corners Try to take the easy way out I kept on falling short of something
I could gave up then but Then again I couldn’t have ’cause
Covid-19 Travel Songs
It is indeed tough times; for pretty much all of us. We extended this list for favorite songs you can listen to when you are stuck at home due to lock-downs and restrictions.
O “Fly On” – Coldplay
A flock of birds Hovering above Just a flock of birds That’s how you think of love
And I always Look up to the sky Pray before the dawn ‘Cause they fly always Sometimes they arrive Sometimes they are gone
They fly on A flock of birds Hovering above Into smoke I’m turned and rise Following them up Still I always
Look up to the sky Pray before the dawn ‘Cause they fly always One minute they arrive
It’s Time – Imagine Dragons
So, this is what you meant? When you said that you were spent And now it’s time to build from the bottom of the pit Right to the top
Don’t hold back Packing my bags and giving the academy a rain check I don’t ever wanna let you down I don’t ever wanna leave this town ‘Cause after all
This city never sleeps at night It’s time to begin, isn’t it? I get a little bit bigger, but then I’ll admit I’m just the same as I was
Now don’t you understand That I’m never changing who I am So this is where you fell And I am left to sell The path to heaven runs through miles of clouded hell
Right to the top Don’t look back Turning to rags and giving the commodities a rain check
Dani Martin – Cero (Spanish Song)
All what we saw has gone I dreamed that always I’d go by side That what we invented it’s not anymore Now just exists past
And it’s time for me to understand What I do with your hugs Now it’s time to learn How to stop loving To know how to erase it well And how It comes it gone That today it’s ZERO
I want That everything starts all over again That everything turn back That everything comes from Zero From zero
And I want that everything sounds again That everything shines again That everything comes from zero From zero
Original Lyrics in Spanish:
Quiero… Que todo vuelva a empezar Que todo vuelva a girar Que todo venga de cero De cero
Y quiero que todo vuelva a sonar Que todo vuelva a brillar Que todo venga de cero De cero
Queen – We Are The Champions
I’ve paid my dues Time after time I’ve done my sentence But committed no crime
And bad mistakes I’ve made a few I’ve had my share of sand Kicked in my face But I’ve come through And we mean to go on and on and on and on We are the champions, my friends And we’ll keep on fighting till the end
We are the champions We are the champions No time for losers ‘Cause we are the champions of the World
Skylar Grey – Coming Home

Travel Song
The Travel Song is a song Dora and Boots sing when proceeding to their 1st/next location in all of Season 1, most of Season 2, and some episodes in Seasons 3-7. They sing out the places to go, then ask each other where they are going. The Fiesta Trio and/or other friends also join in. At the end, Dora and Boots giggle, join hands and spin around in a circle. After that, they yell out their destination 1 final time before running or walking off-screen.

- The title of this song is sometimes incorrectly assumed to be "Come on, ¡Vamonos! " or "The Vamonos Song", due to Dora and Boots saying "Come on, ¡vámonos! " in the song, but in 2001 when Dance And Sing! The Best Of Nick Jr. came out and in 2004 when the Dora the Explorer album came out, it reveals that the song is called the "Travel Song".
- Whenever the song (or variations thereof) is sung, the places Dora and Boots are going to appear to be farther away than when they ask the viewer where they are.
- In early episodes, like the Season 1 episodes The Legend of the Big Red Chicken , Three Little Piggies , and Big River , Dora and Boots sing out the places at warp speed, but in later episodes, they sing out the places at normal speed.
- In Season 1 and the Season 2 episode The Big Storm , Dora and Boots do not clap their hands 3 times after saying "where are we going," they simply say the destination after that line.
- Because of such, each "Where are we going?" line now lasts eight beats instead of four beats, and the music stops briefly following the mandatory clapping part.
- When the song was invented in Dora's First Trip , after each mention of "Where are we going?", Dora and Boots do the mandatory clapping part, then stomp their feet three times, before saying the destination, thus each line lasts a total of ten beats.
- When the places are said at warp speed, the song lasts about 40 seconds; when the places are said at normal speed, the song lasts about 50 seconds. Starting in Season 2 when Dora and Boots clap their hands before saying where they're going, the song lasts about one minute. Dora's First Trip marks the longest Travel Song ever, clocking in at 1:05 long.
- The log disappears in the following verse save for " Egg Hunt ".
- There are some episodes where the spinning is absent, such as Dora and Diego to the Rescue! .
- "What do we need?" in Sticky Tape and Dora's Dance to the Rescue (the answers are "Sticky tape!" and "One big wish!" respectively).
- "What are we making?" in El Dia De Las Madres (the answer is "Mami's cake!").
- "What are we gonna do?" in Louder! (the answer is "Cock-a-doodle-doo!").
- "What's that sound?" in Hic-Boom-Ohhh! (the answer is "Hic-Boom-Ohhh!").
- "Who are we gonna save?" intended for Stuck Truck but got cut from the actual episode (the answer is "Ice Cream Truck").
- "What do we say?" in ¡Por Favor! (the answer is "Por favor!").
- "What are we doing?" in Dora Rocks! (the answer is "Singalong party!" the first time and "Singalong! Singalong!" the second time).
- "Where are we going?" has not always been the question asked in this song, even though it is the original question.
- "To get some ice cream!" in We All Scream for Ice Cream .
- "To win the whistle!" in Choo-Choo! .
- "To catch the babies!" in Catch the Babies .
- "To go save Boots!" in Dora and Diego to the Rescue! .
- "Around the world!" in Dora's World Adventure! .
- In most episode, " ¿Adónde vamos?" replaces the last instance of saying "Where are we going?". However, in Star Mountain , " ¿Adónde vamos?" replaces the last two instances of saying "Where are we going?"
- Azul in Choo-Choo! .
- Wizzle in Wizzle Wishes .
- Little Star in the episode with the same name .
- Rojo in Rojo the Fire Truck .
- Map in Super Map! and Hide and Go Seek .
- León in León, the Circus Lion . However, León said "Circus" after the third "Where are we going" but the Fiesta Trio still jump out and say "Circus" after the fourth "Where are we going" but with Dora , Boots , and León all together.
- Backpack in the The Backpack Parade .
- Little Map in the episode with the same name .
- In The Golden Explorers , Dora , Boots , Isa , Benny , Tico sing this song together and they all take turns asking "Where are we going?", clapping their hands and saying the destination.
- Catch the Babies is the first episode Mami , Papi , and Abuela travel with Dora and Boots and the first episode they sing the Travel Song too but Dora and Boots don't say their own lines before saying "Where are we going?", "Come on let's get to it.", "I know that we can do it.", Mami and Papi say those lines instead.
- In Dora and Diego to the Rescue , it's the first half-hour episode where Dora does not travel with Boots (since he's flying on a kite and needs to be saved), she instead travels with Diego . During the music break, they run towards the center and facing the viewer instead of jumping over a log on the side while the screen is zoomed out. They also do not spin around at the end, they just keep running and then say, "To go save Boots!"
- Dora's Dance to the Rescue is the first episode Swiper sings the Travel Song with Dora and Boots, the question asked is "What do we need?" instead of "Where are we going?" and the answer is "One big wish!" instead of the last place.
- In Dora's World Adventure! , Swiper takes Dora's place because she asks Boots to be in charge of everything at home while she is away, this song has different instrumentals and the answer to "Where are we going?" is "Around the world."
- In Isa's Unicorn Flowers , Dora and Isa travel with each other and it is the first episode Isa sings this song with Dora and without Boots because he is instead playing soccer with Tico.
- In Super Spies and Super Spies 2: The Swiping Machine , The synthesizer version is used.
- In the episode " ¡Por Favor! ", Dora and Boots explain what they are doing and don't say out the places or saying "Where are we going".
- In " The Super Silly Fiesta ", Dora and Boots sing out words that rhyme with go. They were snow and row and those were not the right words.
- In Baby Crab , Dora and Boots say "Snap, snap, snap" instead of their destination (Crab Island) and do not ask "Where are we going?" nor clap their hands after asking that question.
- In Hic-Boom-Ohhh! , Dora and Boots repeat "Hic boom ohhh!" in its place, they ask "What's that sound" and answer "Hic boom ohhh!" instead of asking "Where are we going?" and saying the destination Yellow Valley .
- In Choo-Choo! and A Present for Santa , Dora and Boots repeat "Chugga-chugga-choo-choo!" in its place and after asking "where are we going", they don't say the last place Big Yellow Station in Choo-Choo! , and in A Present for Santa , they say the places but they pause it for a little bit because they run into their friends sleeping wondering what their presents are and then they continue singing it after that.
- In Rojo the Fire Truck , Dora and Boots say "Whoo whoo!" (imitating the siren) twice in its place.
- In Benny's Big Race , Dora and Boots say "Never give up!" in its place.
- This may lead to inconsistencies, as if the episode took place before the first episode of Season 1, and Season 1 does not have clapping, so it is possible that Dora and Boots took a break from clapping after this travel song.
- Little Map is the last Dora the Explorer episode in which Dora and Boots sing this song in full and they only sing it once.
- A variation of the Travel Song is featured in Return to the Rainforest from Dora and Friends: Into the City! .
- Normally, Dora and Boots ask the third "Where are we going", but in Three Little Piggies (second time), Pablo's Flute (2nd time), and León, the Circus Lion (1st and only 1 time), Dora asks it solo. Also, Dora usually asks the 4th "Where are we going" solo, but in Star Mountain (both times), Dora and Boots ask it together and in Spanish ( ¿Adónde vamos? )
- In Hic-Boom-Ohhh! , Dora and Boots sing the Travel Song the 2nd time but Big Red Chicken cut them off when they bump into him due to him sleeping and blocking their way through the Quiet Forest and they somehow just got to the 2nd place they're going so fast but they do not finish singing it because they never had the need since they are already at the 2nd place.
- However, in Rojo the Fire Truck , Dora and Boots sing this song twice but they sing it the 1st time on the way to the 1st location, the town, and the second time on the way to their destination, the Big Tree.
- In Beaches , Dora and Boots sing this song 4 times, once on the way to the Sand Dunes , again on the way to the Boardwalk , then on the Boardwalk , and one more time right when they reach the beach (just before Swiper swiped Boots ' floatie).
- In Dora's World Adventure! and Dora Saves the Mermaids , the Season 4 finale, Dora and ( Boots in Dora Saves the Mermaids or Swiper in Dora's World Adventure!) say four places to go instead of the usual three.
- In Dora's Got a Puppy , Dora and Boots do not sing this song at all because of Swiper, they had no time singing it because Swiper has been on their case almost throughout the episode and if they were singing it in that episode, he would most likely cut them off in the middle of them singing it wanting to swipe the present.
- In most Seasons 3-8 episodes, Dora and Boots sing other songs instead of the usual Travel Song. The first time the Travel song wasn't heard at all was in Dora, La Musica . Dora and Boots instead sing A Musician I Am and it's the 1st new song they sing instead of this song.
- In Berry Hunt , Dora and Boots sing the first stanza of this song followed by Going on a Berry Hunt because they actually are going on a berry hunt picking blueberries from Blueberry Hill where Swiper lives.
- In Dora's Pirate Adventure , this song is not featured among the 15 songs featured in the episode.
- In Dora's Fairytale Adventure , Dora travels without Boots and she does not sing this song without him.
- In Best Friends , Dora and Boots start far apart from each other and sing Tenemos Amigos instead of this song on their way to meet each other at Rainbow Rock.
- In Boots to the Rescue , Boots travels without Dora and he does not sing it without her, he instead sings I Speak Spanish and English she wrote.
- But in the Dora the Explorer Party Favorites album, Dora travels without Boots and she DID sing it without him.
- In Dora Rocks! , the Travel Song is included in the Sing-Along Party Finale with other songs. Dora , Boots and Tico first sing the second stanza unaltered, "What are we doing?" replaces the original "Where are we going?", the entire cast then answers "Sing-along party!".
- There are other songs similar to this original Travel Song that technically go with this one and have the same name such as Super Spy Travel Song , Super Silly Travel Song , Animal Help Travel Song , Snow Travel Song and Mermaid Travel Song , Dora and Boots don't always sing this original Travel Song and it's not always sung in every episode whenever they travel to places even though it's the original Travel Song and sometimes they don't say the places and the question "Where are we going?" in some of the other songs.
- Similarly, in the Fisher Price InteracTV version of " Hide and Go Seek " and the Leapster game Dora the Explorer: Wildlife Rescue , only the second half was sung.
- The Travel Song Medley, the 4th track from the Dora the Explorer CD album includes all but the last verse of this song from Egg Hunt , followed by a song segment intended for Stuck Truck that was cut from the actual episode and ends with the last two stanzas of Yes, We Can! from To the Monkey Bars .
- The Big Storm is the last episode (until Louder! ) Dora and Boots say the place immediately after asking "Where are we going?" without clapping their hands.
- The Magic Stick is the first episode in which Dora and Boots clap their hands 3 times after saying "Where are we going?"
- In Louder! , Dora and Boots don't clap their hands 3 times and they don't say "Where are we going?", they say "What are we gonna do?", then they say "Cock-a-doodle-doo!" as the answer and they just say that after the question just like in Season 1 and the Season 2 episode The Big Storm .
- In The Legend of the Big Red Chicken , it's the very first episode Dora and Boots sing the Travel Song 3 times, they sing it twice on the way to Puzzle Bridge , then sing it once on the way to the Gate , but they don't sing it on the way to the Big Red Hill .
- In Big River , Dora and Boots sing this song 3 times, once on the way to the Bridge as the 1st place, twice on the way to the Froggy Rocks as the 2nd place, but they don't sing it on the way to the Waterfall as the 3rd place.
- In Bouncing Ball , Dora and Boots sing the Travel Song 3 times on the way to all 3 places, once on the way to the Mucky Mud , once on the way to the Troll Bridge , and once on the way to the Volcano .
- Dora and Boots don't always sing the Travel Song in every episode even though it's the original song they're supposed to sing whenever they're traveling, they sometimes sing other songs besides this song.
- Dora and Boots have never called the Travel Song by its name throughout the series.
- In Rescue, Rescue, Rescue! , Dora and Boots don't sing this song, it is very impossible for them to sing it due to all their friends in trouble with the need of their help. However, even if they did sing it, then Dora or someone would cut it off in the middle of them singing it just like getting cut off singing We Did It! , they're going through a lot of trouble helping their friends out so it's technically impossible for them to sing any songs.
- However, Al Rescate and Una Adventura are considered the "Travel song" of the show.
- Usually Dora and Boots never sing this song on the way to the last place after passing the 2nd place, they usually just sing it twice on the way to only the 1st and 2nd place but on the way to the third place, they immediately just run to where they're going, however, in Bouncing Ball , they sing it on the way to the last place after passing the 2nd place.
- In some episodes, Dora and Boots don't sing this song at all, they immediately just run to all the places they're going, sometimes because if they're in a hurry for something and need to get where they need to go right away and don't have time singing it, or they just sing other songs on the way besides this song.
- Usually when Dora and Boots begin singing this song, Dora tells the viewer, "Come on, say it with us!" just as the instrumentals are playing before they begin singing it, with a few exceptions, Dora however doesn't say that line in Dora Saves the Mermaids before singing it.
- In Dora and Friends: Into the City! , Dora and Boots sing the Travel Song in the episode Return to the Rainforest and they only sing it once, they sing it in a different way with a different version, they don't say the places they're going but they still ask the question "where are we going" and clap their hands 3 times.
- In Seasons 1 and 2, Dora and Boots never ask "Where are we going?" in Spanish at all during this song, they're always asking that question in English.
- Dora and Boots sing the Travel Song from Lost and Found featured as the 42nd track in Dance And Sing! The Best Of Nick Jr.
- Dora and Boots never sing the Travel Song on the way to school whenever it's the last place, not even when Boots travels alone in Boots to the Rescue . In the said episode, he instead sings I Speak Spanish and English .
- The Travel Song is almost never said in any of the episode plots.
Dora the Explorer Travel Song (PAL) Season 1
- Dora and Boots don't sing the Travel Song throughout the entirety of Season 8.
- A shorter sped up 50 second version of the song was also created. It was probably used on CBS airings, which most likely shortened the episodes to put more time in for commercials due to time constraints.
- A karaoke version of the song was released by Charttrak Karaoke. It can be listed to on YouTube, which you guys can sing at anytime, make it your own lyrics and sing it to your friends, your family, or however you like. It all doesn't matter for that song anyway.
- The Travel Song is absent in Dora and the Lost City of Gold .
- There is an alternate version of the song called Gotta Travel Song .
- Throughout Seasons 1-4, the recordings of "Come on, ¡vámonos! " and "Where are we going?", as well as Dora and Boots giggling as they spin in a circle, were recycled from Season 1.
- Super Spies is the first episode where Dora and Boots strike poses; when they say "Door" and "Jungle", they lean forward with their arms out tiptoing; when they say "Flowery Garden", they raise their arms over their heads.
- In Dora and Diego to the Rescue! , Dora and Diego wave their arms when they say "Ocean"; they pry their arms away when they say "Grass"; they tiptoe and jump while raising their arms when they say "Polar Bear Mountain".
- Isa's Unicorn Flowers does the same whenever they say "Rainbow", with Isa taking Boots' place
- In Dora's World Adventure! , Dora and Swiper raise their arms and spread them out when they say "Tower"; they hold their hands high when they say "Mountain"; they lean in close when they say "Palace"; they lean away from each other holding hands when they say "Wall".
- In Dora Saves the Mermaids , only Boots does various arm gestures according to the places (arms held forward at "Bridge", arms in with fingers tented at "Island", arms spread out at "Sea", arms raised up at "Kingdom"), since Dora is holding Mariana's crown and therefore her hands are too full to do them.
