The best hotels in Rhodes to explore the largest Dodecanese island in style

From luxury beach resorts and chic boutique hotels to tiny historic inns, here's where to stay on the Greek island of Rhodes

lindos beach

Rhodes is also one of the best-loved Greek holiday destinations – alongside Athens , Santorini and Crete – and among the easiest to travel to. Forget days spent fretting about ferries: the likes of Jet2 , easyJet , TUI and British Airways all offer direct flights to the island from the UK.

Despite being the largest of the Dodecanese islands , Rhodes has a rather intimate appeal with its tumbles of white-washed houses, each draped in the purple pashmina of bougainvillea, and endless views across the Aegean Sea.

While here, you'll want to explore the old town in the north of the island and wander around the cobbled streets of the Knights' Quarter, where the Knights of the Order of St John descended in the 14th century. It's also worth noting that the island was once home to Colossus, the huge bronze statue of Helios, the Greek sun god, and one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Now 2,000 years later, Rhodes is still spectacular, thanks in large part to the fact that it enjoys least 300 days of sunshine a year. Luckily, it has more than 40 beautiful beaches , both sand and shingle, to explore. Popular ones include the more secluded coves of Glystra and Tsambika in the south, or Agathi beach and Anthony Quinn Bay on the east coast.

Whether you're looking for a contemporary adults-only holiday in Lindos or a unique boutique hotel in the old town that's big on romance, this is our pick of the best hotels in Rhodes for your next Greek odyssey.

Mayia Exclusive Resort and Spa, Kiotari

best hotels in rhodes

Banking along the sandy sweep of Kiotari beach, this stylish adults-only resort in the south of the island is truly fit for a Greek god or goddess. If you want a little more than a simple fly-and-flop holiday, look no further than the Mayia Exclusive Resort and Spa .

Every day it offers numerous activities from beachfront yoga and Zumba sessions to cocktail making and cookery classes. Of course, you can also be pampered in spa or hunker down by the pool with a good book and a colourful cocktail.

All of the rooms and suites are beautifully styled in a cool and contemporary aesthetic, with sweeping views of the Aegean Sea. But to really push the boat out, consider booking one of the fancy swim-up suites which have direct pool access.

Kókkini Porta Rossa, Old Town

kókkini porta rossa, rhodes old town

Originally a knight's residence in the 14th century, this romantic boutique hotel is well placed for exploring the old town's historical highlights, like the Palace of the Grand Master and the Church of Our Lady of the Castle.

Tucked away down a cobbled lane in Rhodes' medieval quarter, Kókkini Porta Rossa features six suites, each named after different family members. The hotel is beautifully decorated with a rustic-chic décor, featuring painted wood panelled ceilings, sandstone walls and tiled floors scattered with authentic Persian rugs. The Michalis suite is named after the hotel's carpenter, which has its own garden.

While there isn't a restaurant, a delicious and home-baked breakfast is served in the courtyard under the shade of an ancient mulberry tree.

Levante Beach Club, Kolymbia

best hotels in rhodes

For a hotel that feels blissfully away from it all – but still has plenty to keep you occupied – look no further than Levante Beach Club . This Neilson property is situated on the eastern side of the island by Afandou Beach, with the nearest village of Kolymbia about 1.5 kilometres away.

Here, you can enjoy long, languorous days relaxing by one of the resort's six pools, head down to the long stretch of sandy beach, explore the local area, or make the most of all the activities on offer. Think rounds of tennis, padel, guided bike rides, and water sports like dinghy sailing and windsurfing – all of which are included in the price.

There's a spa complete with sauna, Jacuzzi, steam room, indoor pool and treatment rooms for massages and facials, too.

Atrium Prestige Thalasso Spa Resort & Villas, Lachania

atrium prestige thalasso spa resort villas, lachania

Sometimes all we want from our summer holiday is to truly relax, and there's no finer place to fly and flop than the Atrium Prestige Thalasso Spa Resort in southern Rhodes. Whether it's sunrise yoga on the beach, relaxing by the pool or enjoying a treatment in the AnaNeosis Thalasso Spa, this swish resort offers the ultimate in relaxation.

Of course, if you do want to explore, there's plenty to see on this history-packed island. It's only three miles from the traditional Rhodian village of Lachania, while Lindos and its ancient acropolis, the final resting place of goddess Athena Lindia, is a few miles further.

All the rooms are airy and comfortably furnished, if a little classic in style, while upgraded suites come with private pools.

Casa Cook Rhodes, Kolymbia

casa cook rhodes, tsambika

Perched at the base of Tsambika mountain, this boho-chic adults-only hotel is just the spot for either a romantic holiday or a relaxing break with girlfriends. Relax by the infinity pool, wander down to the secluded beach or borrow a bike and cycle up to the Panagia Tsambika monastery.

Outside it's a tumble of white-washed villas jutting out of the hillside but step inside and it blends bohemian vibes with modern design with natural stone, rattan furnishings and fringed hammocks.

Although it has a boutique vibe, Casa Cook Rhodes has 90 rooms to choose from, including swish suites with a private pool and sundeck. After dinner in the stylish restaurant, relax to the DJ's mellow dance tunes played in the open-air bar.

Spirit Of The Knights Boutique Hotel, Rhodes Old Town

spirit of the knights boutique hotel, rhodes old town

As an alternative to the usual beachfront sprawls that Rhodes is known for, consider a few nights in the Spirit Of The Knights Boutique Hotel in the old town. Located mere moments from the Grand Master's Palace on an aesthetically pleasing cobbled street in the Knights' Quarter, this intimate and historic hotel has a unique charm.

Behind its high stone walls, find a serene courtyard paved with Rhodes' omnipresent black and white pebbles. Each of the six rooms is warmly furnished with antiques, rich fabrics and dark wood furnishings.

After a day of exploring the old town's bountiful history, enjoy a soak in the hot tub before dinner in one of the local tavernas.

Eden Roc Resort, Koskinou

best hotels in rhodes

If you prefer your holidays easy, breezy and super luxurious, look no further than Eden Roc . The sprawling five-star resort is all-inclusive and located on the banks of a beautiful bay between Rhodes Town and Kalithea, boasting some of the most picturesque views on the island.

Choose from eight restaurants, five bars, daily activities, great sports facilities, evening entertainment and lots of fun for children, all included in the price of your stay. Guests can also make the most of complimentary scuba-diving lessons and the dine-out option to sample the local cuisine.

As for the accommodation, there's something to suit everyone. Private pool suites are perfect for couples, bungalows are the best for families, and for those who really want to splash out, there's the epic royal suite.

Amada Colossos Resort, Ammoudes

amada colossos resort, ammoudes

Lining the long blonde stretch of Kallithea beach, this sprawling all-inclusive hotel offers everything you need for a heavenly Greek holiday for all the family. Amada Colossos Resort has a variety of pools to splash about in, including a water park for small ones and an adults-only pool with the all-essential swim-up bar.

And if you can drag yourself away from the pools, the private beach and the fancy spa, it's only a six-mile drive from the medieval attractions of Rhodes' old town.

There are nearly 700 rooms, which can feel overwhelming but is easily catered for in a resort this size. Almost all have views over the Aegean Sea, but to really treat yourself, book into one of the Elite villas, which includes complimentary spa sessions and access to the resort's clutch of themed á la carte restaurants.

Trinity Boutique Hotel, Rhodes Old Town

best hotels rhodes

This intimate six-suite boutique hotel is located right in the heart of the Old Town, a short walk from all of the area's most important historic sites. Housed within a beautiful chateau-gothic building that dates all the way back to the 15th century, Trinity has since undergone renovations to create the smart blend of historic and modern that we see today.

Each of the spacious rooms is decked out in a combination of limestone, wood and granite, creating an atmospheric and mystical space that feels truly unique. Free-standing and hydro-massage baths add an extra element of luxury.

Breakfast is a true delight, served in the sun-soaked courtyard, while for lunch and dinner, guests can use the mini-kitchen in their rooms, or make the most of the many traditional eateries that are located close-by.

Lindos Blu Luxury Hotel & Suites, Lindos

lindos blue luxury hotel suites, lindos

Jutting out of a stony hillside in southern Rhodes, every inch of this contemporary adults-only hotel is blessed with a birds-eye view of the Aegean Sea. Located less than two kilometres from Lindos village and its famous acropolis which overlooks the sea, Lindos Blu Luxury Hotel & Suites is the perfect sun-drenched base for your next Greek odyssey.

Relax by the infinity pool overlooking the sea or wander down to Vlycha beach, where the resort has its own cabanas and drinks service.

All of the hotel's 70 rooms have private balconies and those sea views, while the deluxe suites add open-air hot tubs. Breakfast is served on the glorious terrace at Smeraldo's, the chic rooftop restaurant overlooking the Aegean.

Lindian Village Beach Resort, Lárdos

lindian village beach resort, lardos

Situated moments from Glystra beach on the southeast coast of the island, Lindian Village Beach Resort brings some five-star luxury to this quiet corner of Rhodes.

Opening out onto a private beach, the resort has all the makings of a glorious family holiday, from the freshwater swimming pools and the eight restaurants and bars to the serene spa and fun-packed kids' clubs.

All of the rooms and suites are elegantly decorated in muted natural tones, many overlook either the resort's Church Square or the snaking river which runs through the property. Our favourites have gorgeous private pools or hot tubs on the terrace.

Melenos Lindos Art Boutique Hotel, Lindos

melenos lindos hotel, lindos

Promising sweeping views over the sparkling Aegean Sea, Melenos Lindos Art Boutique Hotel is one of the more authentic Greek places to stay in Rhodes. Located moments from Pallas beach and the ancient Acropolis of Lindos, one of Rhodes' most popular attractions, guests are enamoured by its Ottoman-influenced carved stone facades, detailed woodwork and hand-painted ceramics.

The rooms are a delight, with white-washed walls, bathroom mosaics and flowing fabrics, and most have outdoor space. The romantic Honeymoon Suite has a vast arched area, wall tapestries and a bathroom designed like a traditional Ottoman hammam.

A highlight of a stay here is dinner at Melenos, its award-winning rooftop restaurant which overlooks the sea.

Gennadi Grand Resort, Gennadi

gennadi grand resort, gennadi

Perched on a private stretch of beach on Rhodes' southeastern coastline, this stylish eco-friendly resort combines luxury and serenity with a healthy dash of sustainability. Relax by one of the many pools or indulge in some holistic therapy in the Kozeen Spa.

Gennadi Grand Resort 's chic, minimalist rooms are scattered across a scramble of white-washed villas, all have balconies and many have private or shared pools to splash around in.

A highlight of a holiday is always the food, and the Gennadi Grand Resort does not disappoint with its fine dining Mediterranean restaurants, a beautiful beachfront seafood grill and traditional taverna.

15-day 4-star tour of Rhodes and the Aegean

Rhodes (world heritage) – lindos – pamukkale (world heritage) – hierapolis (world heritage) – aphrodisias (world heritage) – ephesus (world heritage) – aegean, day 1: arrival in rhodes and transfer to your star hotel.

Your itinerary

Welcome to the Island of the Sun God! Our friendly, English-speaking tour guide will meet us at the airport and escort us directly to our star hotel in Rhodes, where we will spend the first three nights.

Day 2: Lindos – Old Town & Acropolis

Lindos

Today we explore the town of Lindos, considered the pearl of Rhodes. Lindos conveys the millennium-long Greek tradition, closely associated with music, dance, ouzo and coffee, in all its naturalness and openness. After a panoramic drive along the coast we reach the picturesque village which, with its snow-white houses, the enthroned acropolis and the beautiful bays, is rightly the most popular place on the whole island. During a walk we marvel at the mediaeval old town and become part of the Greek philosophy of life. The many small shops, coffee houses and sociable locals enchant us with their southern flair. Not far from the Acropolis is one of the most beautiful bays on the entire island of Rhodes, Agios Pavlos Bay, where St Paul is also said to have been stranded.

Day 3: Rhodes – Old Town (UNESCO World Heritage), Mandraki harbour & Wonder of the World, the Colossus of Rhodes

Rhodes (World Heritage)

At the beginning of the day, we explore the fascinating history of one of the oldest and largest mediaeval cities in Europe during an orientation tour. Rhodes Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Strolling through the small alleys with historical relics from ancient times, we are transported back in time. We admire Mandraki harbour, where it is believed that the monumental Colossus of Rhodes – one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World – once towered more than 33 yd into the sky. The two statues of the stag Elafos and the hind Elafina are known as landmarks of the harbour. Other highlights of the city are the knights‘ street, the bishop’s palace, the Murad-Reis mosque and the famous Grand Master’s Palace. Built by the Knights of St John, the former seat of government is now a museum. The imposing city wall is also a highlight of the sun-drenched island.

Day 4: Panoramic cruise on a catamaran, Marmaris, Hierapolis & Pamukkale (UNESCO World Heritage)

Hierapolis (World Heritage)

First we enjoy a wonderful panoramic crossing in a modern catamaran. Marmaris and the enchanting Turkish Aegean welcome us with their beautiful islands, forests and bays. We travel past beautiful landscapes on to Pamukkale. The town is famous for its unique limestone terraces and thermal springs, which we will of course visit (admission included). Right next door, a spectacular visit to the ancient „Holy City“ of Hierapolis (admission included) awaits us, which is also a UNESCO World Natural and Cultural Heritage Site. We spend the night in a thermal hotel in Pamukkale.

Day 5: Aphrodisias (UNESCO World Heritage) & Meander level

Aphrodisias (World Heritage)

In the morning we reach the ancient city of Aphrodisias (admission included), the capital of Caria and home to artists and sculptors, which is one of the best preserved ancient cities in the world. It is rightly a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The mighty stadium, the imposing tetrapylon, the agora and the theatre with inscriptions are just some of the treasures of this impressive ruined city that will inspire us. We will also visit a traditional carpet knotting factory and marvel at this centuries-old craft. We then drive through the beautiful plain of the River Meander to Kusadasi, where we spend three nights with star comfort.

Day 6 – 7: Ephesus (UNESCO World Heritage) & Wonder of the World, the Temple of Artemis

Library of Celsus, Ephesus (World Heritage)

Day 6 begins with a visit to the legendary ancient city of Ephesus (UNESCO World Heritage Site, admission included). The Odeon, Curetes Street, Hadrian’s temple, the Fountain of Trajan, the Library of Celsus, the Agora, Marble Street and the large theatre, where Paul the Apostle delivered a speech, are among the city’s most notable edifices. We will then discover the impressive ruins of the Temple of Artemis (admission included), one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World. Afterwards, the great craft tradition takes us to a jewellery and a leather atelier. When we are there, we will find out some interesting things about manufacturing and will have the opportunity to select a personal holiday souvenir. On day 7 we enjoy our dream hotel or discover the surroundings on our own. A visit to the oracle temple Didyma and the picturesque town Tire is certainly worthwhile.

Day 8 – 15: FREE Rhodes – extended holiday in an exclusive 4-star hotel

4-star hotel

After breakfast we take a panoramic catamaran crossing back to the island of Rhodes. Once there, we move into our exclusive 4-star hotel right next to the beach. Here we can enjoy wonderful relaxation over the coming days. We can enjoy the amenities of our hotel. Take a break by the outdoor or indoor pool, or go for a leisurely stroll along the beach. Country and people:

Few countries have such a rich history as Greece and Türkiye. No trip to Türkiye would be complete without a visit to the Turkish bazaars to soak up the oriental flair. The handmade carpets, jewellery and leather goods are an integral part and to some extent centuries-old tradition of the oriental culture – which is why our tour also includes a visit to a jewellery maker, a leather merchant and a traditional carpet weaver. Here you will find out fascinating facts about the Turkish art of carpet weaving and see how hand-woven carpets have been made throughout the generations. In interesting demonstrations, you will learn more about preparing the silk threads, natural wool dyeing and very intricate and elaborate tying with the renowned ”Turkish knot”. You will then get to spend one to two hours in the respective factories looking at the works of art and products. Bartering is a typical Turkish custom. If you are not interested in buying anything, the traders will also accept a clear no. No bartering takes place in department stores and supermarkets, or at markets where local farmers sell their vegetables. In Türkiye and Greece, it is customary to give tips. Similar to the USA, this forms part of their income for people working in the sector. Moreover, it symbolizes recognition for the service provided. One can tip chambermaids £1 to £2 per night. In a restaurant or taxi, tipping around 10% of the billed sum is customary. Tips are not given in shops. On group trips, the suggested sum for a tour guide could be £2 per person per day. While for bus drivers the appropriate sum is around £1 to £2 per day per person. Of course, everyone may decide for themselves whether and how much of a tip they wish to give.

Entry requirements for British citizens:

British Citizens travelling to Greece and Türkiye for tourist purposes are able to travel without a visa for visits of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Your passport must be issued less than 10 years before the date you enter the country (check the ‘date of issue’) and should be valid for at least 150 days from the date you arrive (in Türkiye) and there should be a full blank page for the Turkish entry and exit stamps. Check your passport is stamped if you enter or exit the Schengen area through Greece as a visitor. Border guards will use passport stamps to check you are complying with the 90-day visa-free limit for short stays in the Schengen area. If relevant entry or exit stamps are not in your passport, border guards will presume that you have overstayed your visa-free limit. Nationals of other countries are advised to enquire at the Greek and Turkish Embassy about the entry requirements applicable to them. Customers are reminded that it is their sole responsibility to make sure that passport and visa entry requirements for the country or countries that they are visiting are satisfied and we can not be responsible for any problems encountered (whether at any point of entry or elsewhere) in the event that passport and visa requirements are not satisfied. Regulations in respect of passport and visa requirements for Greece are the responsibility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs whose Website is https://www.mfa.gr/en/index.html . If you hold a different type of British nationality (BN(O), British Overseas Citizen, British Protected Person or British Subject), check visa requirements with the Greek Embassy before you travel. Regulations in respect of passport and visa requirements for Türkiye are the responsibility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye (“MFA”) whose website is at www.mfa.gov.tr . However, passport and visa requirements change from time to time and depend on the purpose of your visit and your nationality. Whilst we endeavour to provide guidance where necessary. For up-to-date information on entry requirements, please visit https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/ . The EU has a new visa waiver system, called ETIAS, which will be valid for three years. British passport holders travelling to the EU will need to apply and pay for an ETIAS, via an online system ( https://etias.com/ ).

Tour guides:

Additional packages:, tourist tax:.

In Greece, a climate protection fee of up to €10 (£ 8.55) per room per night applies from 1 March to 31 October for 4- and 5-star hotels. Outside of this period, the state spa and city tax of up to €4 (£ 3.40) per room per night applies (as of January 2024).

Currency/Banks/Credit cards:

Greece is a member of the EU. The currency is the Euro. Exchange rate (as at February 2024): 1 GBP = 1.17 Euro; 1 Euro = 0.85 GBP. Bank opening times are Monday – Thursday 08:00 – 14:00, Friday 08:00 – 13:30. In major cities opening hours are sometimes longer. Popular credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard and American Express are accepted almost everywhere. A debit card and PIN number can be used to withdraw cash from cash machines for a fee. Cards bearing the Cirrus or Maestro symbol are also accepted as means of payment. CAUTION: When paying with debit or credit cards, we recommend vigilance against fraudsters who will secretly try to copy tourists‘ bank cards and spy out the associated PIN so that they can then withdraw cash from cash machines using a cloned card. Travellers are therefore advised when paying by card to always keep their card in sight and to conceal the PIN when entering it. Caution is advised when using debit and credit cards with a PIN in currency exchanges. Türkiye : Since 1 January 2009, the currency is once again called the Turkish lira (TRY). Exchange rate (as of February 2024): 1 GBP = 39,23 TRY; 1 TRY = 0.03 GBP. Money can be exchanged at banks during opening hours. Another option to change currency is offered at larger hotels. Bank opening hours: Mon – Fri from 8.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., 1.30 to 5.30 p.m. Cash can be withdrawn from cash machines using established international credit cards like Visa, Mastercard, American Express; the usage of debit cards is only possible with some machines. Credit cards are usually also accepted in the larger hotels, various shops and international car rental offices.

Customs regulations:

Greece: There are a number of products which have entry or exit limitations in Greece from outside the European Union. These include cultural goods, wild fauna and flora and products derived from these, vegetables and plant products, weapons and ammunition, medicines, tobacco and alcoholic beverages (please note the alcohol and cigarette allowances). You cannot take meat, milk or products containing them into EU countries. In terms of medications, only those necessary for personal use are allowed, and they must be accompanied by a copy of the prescription or medical report. Türkiye: The import of foreign currency is unlimited. As for exporting currency, a total amount of 5,000 US dollars or the equivalent in TRY is permitted. Travellers may import and export personal jewellery to a total value of 15,000 US dollars. Any value higher than this must be declared when entering the country. Documentation is required for purchases made in Türkiye. Important: If you are travelling to Great Britain from outside the UK, your personal allowances mean you can bring in a certain amount of goods without paying tax or duty. If you go over your allowances you must declare all your goods and pay tax and duty on all the goods in that category. Please inform yourself about the current customs regulations: http://www.gov.uk/bringing-goods-into-uk-personal-use/arriving-in-Great-Britain .

Safety information specific to Türkiye:

British citizens wishing to stay in or travel to Türkiye are generally recommended to keep an eye on the security situation, these travel and safety instructions and on reports in the media. Groups of people gathering, including on public squares and in front of tourist attractions, as well as hanging around near government and military buildings should be avoided. Following the failed violent attempted coup, there have been isolated incidents of aggressive attacks by followers of certain political parties on people with supposedly different views. We strongly recommend remaining vigilant for such escalations, distancing yourself from the situation as quickly as possible and finding a secure location.

Special criminal law provisions:

Greece: The acquisition, possession, import or export of drugs (even in small quantities) is severely punished. Photographing military installations and important civilian facilities (airports / ports) is prohibited due to the risk of spying. Violations will be prosecuted. For cases of theft, deliberate or negligent damage, illegal excavation and removal from the site (i.e. without permission or notification to the authorities) of archaeological finds, prison sentences of up to several years can also be imposed on foreigners, depending on the severity of the offence. Türkiye: The purchase, possession and export of “cultural and natural properties” is severely punished (prison sentence of up to 10 years), as these properties are regarded as state-owned assets. In case of violation, several months of custody and high bail fees (currently approx. 7,000 GBP) are common procedure for tourists, too, even if they hold antiques or old objects of supposed small value. In individual cases, prison sentences are imposed. You are therefore urgently warned not to acquire or take along antiques, old coins, fossils, etc. from retailers. It is strongly advised against making political statements in public against the Turkish state or expressing sympathy with terrorist organisations.

Medical information:

At least 8 weeks before your trip, check the latest country-specific health advice from the National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC) on the TravelHealthPro website ( https://travelhealthpro.org.uk/countries ). Each countryspecific page has information on vaccine recommendations, any current health risks or outbreaks, and factsheets with information on staying healthy abroad. Caution is advised when eating uncooked food, unpasteurised milk (e.g. fresh milk, ice cream) and fruit that can’t be peeled. Please avoid drinking tap water and ice cubes in drinks! Rule of thumb: don’t eat anything that cannot be cooked or peeled!

Medical care:

Greece: Anyone entitled to free healthcare in the UK is also entitled to treatment in Greece – if it is urgently required – from doctors, dentists, hospitals, and so on that are approved by the foreign statutory health insurance company. You should get a free UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) or European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) before leaving the UK. If you already have an EHIC it will still be valid as long as it remains in date. You can also contact your health insurance company for information on current regulations. Nonetheless, you are urgently recommended to take out travel health insurance for the duration of your holiday which covers risks not assumed by the statutory health insurance companies. Such policies usually also offer benefits not covered by state health insurance companies, e.g. the costs of repatriation. Türkiye: Medical treatment options in the country‘s major cities and tourist regions have improved significantly in recent years. In particular, the large number of private hospitals offer a level approaching that of Europe. In many cases, medical care in rural areas cannot be compared to Western Europe and can be problematic in terms of technology, equipment and hygiene. Any valid health insurance cover you may have (foreign health insurance certificate) is often not sufficient. It is therefore strongly advised to take out private travel health insurance and reliable travel repatriation insurance. In private clinics, it is common to ask for a covered credit card or cash before starting treatment. An individual first-aid kit should be taken along and appropriately protected from the hot temperatures while travelling. An individual consultation with a tropical medicine doctor or travel medicine specialist is also advisable.

Customers must ensure that they are in good physical and mental health in line with the trip in question. Customers must enquire about the physical mobility and psychological autonomy required for this trip.

These hotels on Las Vegas Strip had bed bug complaints recently. What travelers should know

travel republic hotels rhodes

A loss at the casino is not the only thing that can jump up and bite you when you stay in Las Vegas.

Bed bugs, the insect pests that can cause itchy bites from feeding on blood, were reported at seven hotels on the Las Vegas strip in the last 18 months, according to officials from the Southern Nevada Health District.

The bed bug complaints were revealed following a public records request from KLAS-TV , which first reported on the affected hotels. State health officials in Nevada stated that hotels have protocols for responding to bed bug complaints and that people who find bed bugs in a hotel should contact the front desk immediately.

If you're planning a trip to Sin City, here's everything you need to know about where bed bugs were found in Vegas, what travelers can do to prevent carrying them home, and what to do if you find them in your room.

Need more time: New ranking of best U.S. weekend road trips includes these 2 Arizona destinations. Why?

Which Las Vegas hotels had bed bug complaints?

The Southern Nevada Health District reported seven hotels in 2022 and the first six months of 2023 had bed bug complaints.

Six hotels had one complaint each: Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood, Palazzo, Tropicana, MGM Grand and Sahara.

The seventh hotel, Circus Circus, had reports of bed bugs in two rooms.

"When receiving the complaints, the properties all responded by having the rooms inspected and treated appropriately before the rooms were returned to service," health district spokeswoman Jennifer Sizemore told The Arizona Republic.

Are bed bugs a problem in Las Vegas?

Bed bugs are a concern across the U.S. and they're more likely to occur in places that see a high volume of tourists, including Las Vegas.

Increased tourism, lack of knowledge about preventing bed bugs, the bugs' greater resistance to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices are all factors that help explain why bed bug sightings are increasing nationwide, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

What should you do if your hotel room has bed bugs?

If you go to a hotel and you notice bed bugs or signs of bed bugs like feces, dead skin or streaks of blood on the bedding, notify the front desk as soon as possible.

Sizemore, of the Southern Nevada Health District, said most hotels have "very good protocols in place" for responding to bed bug complaints.

What can you do to prevent being bitten or taking home bed bugs?

The Environmental Protection Agency recommends travelers follow these precautions to ensure their room has no bed bugs:

  • Inspect the bed and bedroom for the presence of bed bugs, which can be done with no extra tools, but a flashlight is suggested.
  • Check the mattress for bed bugs and signs of bed bugs. Adult bed bugs measure about 5 millimeters long and have flat, oval-shaped bodies. Physical signs of infestation may include rusty or reddish stains on bed sheets or mattresses, dark spots about the size of a dot, tiny eggs and eggshells measuring about 1 millimeter and pale yellow skins that bed bug nymphs shed.
  • Check the headboard for cracks or crevices.
  • Use luggage racks to store luggage when packing or unpacking instead of placing them on the bed or floor.

Travelers can prevent bringing bed bugs home with them by washing and drying clothes immediately after returning, carefully inspecting luggage and storing luggage away from the bedroom.

You'll Feel Like Royalty at This Adults-only All-inclusive in the Dominican Republic — With Private Butlers and 6 Pools

Sanctuary Cap Cana is also home to a championship golf course, a stable, five restaurants, and more.

Food and Drink

Activities and experiences, accessibility and sustainability, how to get the most value out of your stay.

Corey Weiner/Courtesy of Sanctuary Cap Cana, A Luxury Collection Adult All-Inclusive Resort

After a flight filled with rollicking bachelorette parties and iPad-deprived toddlers, I was ready for a break — and luckily, I got it quickly.

After just a 15-minute car ride from the Punta Cana International Airport, I arrived at Sanctuary Cap Cana, an adults-only, all-inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic. Soon, I was whisked away via a golf cart to my room in “The Castle,” the Sanctuary’s exclusive section offering a VIP experience.

There, I was greeted by my butler for the duration of my stay, who helped me settle in and unpack and even gave me his phone number in case I needed anything while away from my room. This personal touch helped set the tone for my stay at Sanctuary, a resort that will make you feel like, well, king of the castle while you are here.

Even though it's been open for over a decade, Sanctuary became part of Marriott Bonvoy's All-Inclusive collection in the fall of 2022. Its re-opening was delayed until early 2023 due to the effects of Hurricane Fiona.

"Cap Cana is one of the Dominican Republic's most coveted areas, offering an inspiring getaway for our global explorers with a stretch of white sanded beaches, turquoise waters, and architecture resembling a storied colonial Spanish era," said Brian King, the president of Caribbean and Latin America for Marriott International.

"Sanctuary Cap Cana is proof of our commitment to provide discerning travelers with unique vacation retreats to continue collecting timeless memories, now in a convenient, luxurious, all-inclusive format."

Indeed, being at Sanctuary Cap Cana feels like walking around a Spanish village, with the property offering suites and villas designed in a Spanish colonial style with modern elements. Each space includes wood accents, rattan furniture, and luxurious coral bathrooms. Standard amenities include private balconies or terraces, minibars, espresso machines, and plush bathrobes.

Nestled in the heart of the DR, the resort is a private enclave in Punta Cana with 30,000 acres of flawless beaches. The property features plenty of exciting offerings, including the Punta Espada golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus, a state-of-the-art marina with more than 150 slips accommodating yachts up to 150 feet, and even an equestrian center featuring two world-class polo fields designed by Alejandro Battro.

Fresh off its renovation, the 324-room resort has five a la carte restaurants, six bars and pools, and Sanctuary Town: the resort’s premier nightlife destination. The property also offers a spa with treatment rooms and a hydrotherapy circuit for rejuvenation.

Read on for a full review of the Sanctuary at Cap Cana and what to expect when you visit this serene property.

Sanctuary Cap Cana

  • Each room’s fridge has essential snacks and local Dominican beer.
  • The breakfast buffet is above and beyond what you would expect at an all-inclusive resort, with fresh-fruit smoothies and elevated classics.
  • For golf enthusiasts, Punta Espada is worth the trip alone.
  • The spa’s hydrotherapy circuit is the perfect way to unwind after arriving at the resort and to rejuvenate for your stay.

The suites and villas at Sanctuary Cap Cana blend Spanish colonial design with modern elements. Each space includes wooden accents, rattan furniture, and luxurious coral bathrooms. Amenities include private balconies, minibars, espresso machines, and plush bathrobes. Some rooms have swim-up access.

The resort is comprised of 324 rooms and villas with 19 different room sizes and configurations, the smallest of these, the junior suite, is a generous 646 square feet, so space is no issue here.

The property itself is divided into three areas: the “Colonial” section, the “Castle,” and the Villas. The heart of Sanctuary Cap Cana comprises the Colonial section, including all the resort's main buildings.

I stayed in the “Castle” section, a more exclusive resort area with full-time butler service, VIP services, packing and unpacking services, and even a chilled bottle of sparkling wine upon arrival. The butler service is a must for those looking for a personalized experience. Some ground-floor rooms in the Castle area are also connected to a private pool, only accessible to Castle guests, that wraps around the building.

Finally, scattered throughout the property are several villas, the smallest of which starts at just over 1,100 square feet for those who want a larger space or have traveled with a group.

Sanctuary Cap Cana has five restaurants, each with indoor and outdoor seating. Enjoy breakfast at Casa Bella, which also offers lunch with a tropical twist; lunch or dinner at Blue Marlin for fresh seafood; Pan-Asian fusion at Wok; prime cuts at The Steakhouse; and Italian cuisine at Capricci. After dinner, head inside to the Love Bar, a piano bar with craft cocktails, or outside to the Ocean Club to have a post-dinner drink with a soundtrack of crashing waves.

Elsewhere on the property, guests can have drinks at one of several other bars open during the day, including Destination Bar, serving up fresh-made smoothies and cocktails, and Freshco Bar, a swim-up bar for replenishing your drinks while at the pool. Keep in mind that the resort maintains a dress code for certain restaurants, with most requiring men to wear long pants, a collared shirt, and closed-toe shoes.

While you may want to flock to one of Sanctuary’s six pools and not move a muscle, the property has plenty of other activities you will want to check out.

The resort offers a range of activities with its all-inclusive package, such as yoga classes, bike tours, beach volleyball, water aerobics, and nightly entertainment. The resort also features a modern gym with plenty of space for working out and includes bikes, weights, and a full lineup of exercise equipment.

Golfers will relish the Punta Espada course designed by Jack Nicklaus, rated the number one golf course in the Caribbean and Mexico by Golfweek Magazine for eight years running.

In addition to the treatments offered, the spa features a hydrotherapy circuit which includes a sauna, hot tub, steam room, cold pool, and dynamic pool to help reinvigorate your body through exposure to various environments and temperatures. The spa also includes a beauty salon as well as a snack bar should you require some fresh fruit or green tea before or after a treatment or soak in the hydrotherapy circuit.

Ground floor suites are fully ADA-compliant.

Sanctuary Cap Cana prioritizes sustainability and protecting the environment by using renewable energy sources, conserving local flora and fauna, and operating an on-site organic farm to supply fresh produce to its restaurants.

Sanctuary Cap Cana is located nine miles from Punta Cana International Airport and is a 15-minute taxi ride. Transportation is not included in the all-inclusive package, but the resort can help arrange transportation services for an extra fee. Guest-only parking is available for those renting a car. Guests who choose to play at Punta Espada will have transportation to the greens directly from the resort.

Rooms start at $665 per night, but Sanctuary’s website offers frequent deal packages for multiple nights, which include discounts on spa treatments and other services. The resort is also part of Marriott Bonvoy's All-Inclusive collection, so members can earn and redeem loyalty points as part of their stay.

VAI Resort reveals its new target opening date and hints at surprises to come

travel republic hotels rhodes

After confirming it will not open in late 2024 as scheduled, VAI Resort shared an additional statement revealing a slightly more specific timetable.

Staff also teased a future announcement hinting at more features at the $1 billion, 1,100-room, 60-acre hotel and entertainment complex under construction near State Farm Stadium in Glendale. Such an annoucement would add to a long list of attractions that includes a concert amphitheater, 5 acres of artificial beaches and the Mattel Adventure Park .

In its previous statement, VAI said "delays in our timeline" forced them to push the opening date back from 2024. The resort aims to redefine Arizona tourism , but a VAI spokesperson said the challenge is "building something that has never been seen in the hospitality space takes time."

When is VAI Resort opening?

"The property will open in the back half of 2025," a VAI spokesperson said.

Why will VAI Resort take longer to open?

The spokesperson said VAI's delay involves new additions to the project but did not provide specifics. They hinted at a future announcement.

"We added some exciting elements to the property as the concept evolved that require additional time to finalize," the spokesperson said. "We will be announcing these developments soon and look forward to sharing more details with you."

When VAI bought the property from Crystal Lagoons in 2022 , plans for the hotel called for 630 rooms. The project evolved to encompass 1,100 rooms across four towers, which would make VAI Arizona's largest hotel.

VAI Amphitheater first was planned as an 8,000-capacity venue. When resort staff announced in February that Live Nation and C3 Presents would promote the amphitheater's concerts , they also said the amphitheater would now seat 11,000 people.
