Bonjour and welcome to Cyclingnews' live coverage of stage 18 of the 2024 Tour de France!

Stage 18 presents another and perhaps the final chance for a strong breakaway to have its day, such is the difficulty of Friday and Saturday's mountain tests and the final time trial into Nice which will surely be won by one of the GC favourites. It's billed as a "hilly" stage by Le Tour but it actually has more elevation than yesterday's mountain stage to SuperDévoluy so expect another furious fight to get into any moves and it should be another thriller. Here's the profile of the 179.5km stage:

The racing gets underway from Gap on today's stage, as it has done for many years at the Tour. With undulating roads right from start to finish taking in over 3000m of elevation gain, expect more all-out racing as was the case on stage 17. 

Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost) was the victor after more than 50 riders got up the road in the final 60km. Catch up with how he did it here:

Even with a breakaway some seven minutes up the road, race leader Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) simply couldn't help himself with another attack near the crest of the Col du Noyer. He gained two seconds on Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike), while Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-QuickStep) looked strong up the final two climbs to gain 10 and 12 seconds on his rivals.

We're around an hour and a half away from the neutralised roll out in Gap, before racing proper gets underway with the flag drop at 13:20 CEST.

Despite Pogačar's unplanned attack on stage 17, perhaps the biggest news in recent days has been the change in atmosphere around the yellow jersey holder. Riders are at the sign-on and team presentation in Gap with just over an hour until things kick off.

Here's how the GC standings look heading into stage 18:

Vingegaard was aided by satellite riders from Visma-Lease a Bike on yesterday's stage after they rode aggressively in the opening to the stage. With a less difficult finish, it's unlikely Pogačar will attack, however, it was unlikely he would attack yesterday and he did. Visma will likely try to get riders up the road again today, with Wout van Aert also being an option for the stage win.

A look into EF Education-EasyPost's celebrations last night. A first win at the Tour for Carapaz, a Grand Tour stage win completed and EF's first win at the 2024 Tour after perhaps being the most attacking throughout the first 17 stages. Today could be another great chance for them through Carapaz again, Ben Healy or Neilson Powless:

Here's the World Champion Mathieu van der Poel at the start of stage 18 in Gap. He's gone for the full white skinsuit so expect him to be firing on all cylinders in his final chance to win from a breakaway at the Tour.

15 minutes from the neutralised start in Gap now.

Big day for Groupama-FDJ on stage 18, with the French side yet to really get anything out of the race. They'll be back in the break with the likes of Gaudu, Madouas and Gregoire.

A reminder that we will be heading uphill right from the start today so the attacks should come thick and fast. It's another hot day as the Tour heads towards the Côte d'Azur. There were ice vests on for most of the riders at the start.

Stage start

C'est Parti! Riders are gone from the unofficial start in Gap and will now complete the départ fictif before racing proper gets underway in 5.1km.

Here's the race leader Pogačar at the start in Gap, ready for another day of battle in the hills.

179.5km to go

Flag dropped by TDF director Christian Prudhomme and it's time to go racing on stage 18. We had a small delay at kilometre zero with some riders off the back but it's on now.

Today will be the final chance for 90% of the peloton in the last likely breakaway chance, with the three alpine stages on Friday, Saturday and Sunday probably going to be played out between Pogačar, Vingegaard and Evenepoel.

World Champion Van der Poel was right toward the front and he's responded to the first attack from the day from Krists Neilands (Israel-Premier Tech). Michael Matthews (Jayco AlUla) is similarly interested and this is going to be breathless.

Attacks coming from everywhere on the road behind. Small groups are splintering with the nearly whole peloton desperate to be involved. There's a massive group on the front with a smaller bunch following closely and led by Van Aert.

11 of the 22 teams at the Tour de France in 2024 have won a stage so far so half of those trying to get in know this could be their final chance. The breakaway formation will be vital. Neilands goes again with Stefan Kung (Groupama-FDJ) on his wheel. 

Küng and Neilands have been joined by 3 others who have chased well. Jan Tratnik is very active showing Visma-Lease a Bike's ambitions today. 

Attackers are caught and the strung out bunch prepares to go again.

All smiles for Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty) and Vingegaard at the start of the days stage. 

175km to go

Küng tries to go again as a move from Ryan Gibbons (Lidl-Trek) forms the counter. So many attacks are coming but there is a lot of looking around with the hardest terrain to come.

Van der Poel, Gibbons, Powless and Quinn are among those in the next split off the front. But no group is getting any advantage so it could take ages before we have any sort of breakaway. 

Speeds up at 67kph in this thrilling start. No one is quite willing to fully commit knowing they will be chased down furiously. Arkéa-B&B Hotels kick things off again with a a big acceleration but Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe are right on them, trying to get Hindley away in a move.

A look inside the strung out peloton on stage 18 as the furious racing goes past beautiful scenery heading away from Gap. 

170km to go

Visma and UAE are clearly both interested in getting someone up the road for their leaders. Van der Poel is showing his strength and intent with the rainbow jersey present in each of the splits for the moment. 

Jasper Stuyven (Lidl-Trek) now sets off on the front but he's all alone for now. A Groupam-FDJ rider is trying to chase but it seems as though the main peloton is waiting now for the first categorised climb of the day - the Col de Festre (3.9km at 6.3%) - which starts in around 10km time.

It was Clément Russo (Groupama-FDJ) who was chasing but he stopped his effort and let Stuyven get 35 seconds up the road. Once the Frenchman was back in, EF launched a new move to try and bridge across with Carapaz and Costa.

Van der Poel has just bridged across to a six-man move on his own and he's looking strong. Stuyven is still 27 seconds ahead pushing on with the hope of being joined by strong riders from behind. 

There's scorching heat on stage 18 of the Tour de France, with the temperature in the Alps up in the 30s. Cooling will be a key factor today.

160km to go

DSM-Firmenich PostNL have two riders on the front after launching a small move which Wout van Aert (Visma-Lease a Bike) tried to follow alongside Bart Lemmen.

TotalEnergies respond with their own move through Sandy Dujardin.

Fast and furious racing on stage 18 of the Tour de France.

Stuyven is still 11 seconds in front with the action relatively calming down for a moment. All eyes will be on the first climb of the day to form the break. 

Stuyven caught and it's all back together at the front of the peloton. Tratnik tries to kick on as the race reaches the foot of the climb and the game is restarting again. 

Jonathan Castroviejo (Ineos Grenadiers) is leading a huge group that has a small gap on the chasing peloton. More attacks are certain to fly with around 5km of uphill roads to contend with now. Marc Soler (UAE Team Emirates) just closed down the small gap so Pogačar's men clearly weren't happy with the composition.

155km to go

Küng, Hindley, Powless, Lazkano and Lemmen are in the current small group that has pulled off the front. Those behind are still unhappy so they are exploding out of the peloton in pursuit.

Back together at the front of the peloton with the next round of moves incoming. Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) is looking active despite his efforts in yesterday's break. 

That latest round has found some separation with a large group moving away. Just as it seemed to calm, more riders realised this could be the break going away for the day. Van Aert, Thomas, Healy and Hindley all up there with a full group to be confirmed momentarilly. 

Lazkano and Carapaz are desperately launching out of the peloton to try and bridge what is for the moment a 20-second gap to the leaders. Those in front are hitting the categorised climb proper but they've already been travelling uphill for some four kilometres. 

Carapaz and Lazkano make it across but this big bridging behind has almost brought things fully back together.

150km to go

Carapaz is clearly still in tremendous shape even after his huge effort yesterday. He's on the front helping the likes of Thomas and Van Aert to try and eke out the breakaway's advantage which currently sits at 24 seconds. 

It's going to be a brutal day at the back of the peloton. Those struggling will be praying the breakaway gets away soon and this furious attacking stops. 

Dorion Godon (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) and Valentin Madouas (Groupama-FDJ) seem to be the last riders to try and make the junction across to the front. They are at 20 seconds from the leaders, with the peloton calming down and now approaching a one-minute deficit. 

There's 34 riders currently in this break and most of the teams are represented. It did seem to be done as the first climb is completed but Uno-X are trying to launch more moves through Magnus Cort. He was marked by a UAE and a Visma rider with the gap still at 40 seconds.

140km to go

Carapaz, Hindley and Lazkano had a gap on the descent with the larger 34-man group chasing to get back on. The peloton does seem to have finally stopped chasing with the gap now at 1:40. Break of the day formed.

130km to go

Unfortunate wheel change for Oscar Onley who was doing well to get in the break for the second day in a row. The front of the break are pulling through and off but hopefully he can make up the 40-second deficit to get back in the move.

Stunning skill from Valentin Madouas (Groupama-FDJ) to keep this one up but I'm sure he'll be trying his best not to do any more stoppies now that he's made it into the break of the day.

Van Aert is looking good as he takes a pull on the front. Reminder that if he is to win today, it will be his first win at the Tour de France, amazingly, since stage 20 of the 2022 race when he won the ITT into Rocamadour.

The breakaway is onto the second categorised climb of the day - the Côte de Corps (2.1km at 7.2%) and Lazkano and Carapaz are fighting out the KOM sprint. The Spanish rider took the spoils at the crest, with them starting on 35 and 34 points at the start of the day respectively. 

Pogačar leads the KOM classification on 77 points.  

UAE Team Emirates have taken over on the front of the peloton but there is no urgency or chase from them with the deficit to the break growing to 3:45.

120km to go

Van Aert leads the breakway down a descent on some more wonderful roads en route to Barcelonnette.

That mechanical, and probably the day in the break yesterday, has done for Oscar Onley, who after having to change his wheel with one from neutral service, is now in now man's land 2:25 from the breakaway. He'll soon be back in the peloton leaving 36 in front and teammate Frank van den Broek on his own.

Vingegaard is getting a shoe change at the back of the peloton but the pace has really gone out behind. Gap to the leaders now at 4:10.

110km to go

The breakaway has now made the turn after heading north out of Gap, with the rest of the stage travelling southeast towards Barcelonnette.

Race radio from Visma is telling Lemmen and Van Aert to stay towards the front with the games beginning in the break. With so many riders in there, many will be trying to skip a turn and save their energy. The fight for the break may be over but the fight for the stage win will be incredibly tactical in the final 107km. 

Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) and Victor Campenaerts (Lotto Dstny) lead the breakaway on stage 18 of the Tour de France. Advantage is out to near five minutes.

100km to go

We're into a calm moment in the race for now but things are due to ignite fully again on the next climb - the Col de Manse (5.2 km at 3.7%) - which the break will hit in around 15km time. 

Intermediate sprint

Michael Matthews (Jayco AlUla) takes the top spot over the intermediate sprint and the prize money with it in Saint-Bonnet-en-Champsaur. Biniam Girmay still seems to have that competition wrapped up now after some late drama from when he crashed on stage 16.

Speeds were upped after the IS and through the feed zone but there's no splits yet. Breakaway closing in on the next climb now where action could restart properly.

The break is onto the lower slopes of the Colde Manse now - it's 5.1km in length but only averages a gradient of 3.6%.

UAE Team Emirates holding front position in the peloton with Ineos Grenadiers close behind. It's looking unlikely that we will see GC action as we did yesterday without any of the climbs looking hard enough - all eyes will be on the Col de Vars, Cime de la Bonette and Isola 2000 tomorrow. 

Lazkano again takes the maximum KOM points ahead of Carapaz with only them battling for it. They are still a long way from taking it off Pogačar.

Everyone is content with the status quo in both the breakaway and the peloton for now, but the hardest climb of the day is approaching - the Côte de Saint-Apollinaire (7.1 km at 5.6%). It crests 58km from the line but will be the best chance for the likes of Hindley, Carapaz, Poels, Johannessen and Lazkano to get rid of the faster riders like Van Aert, Matthews, Healy and Aranburu. 

It is very hot on stage 18. Tough conditions out there for all those in the break.

The break has just finished navigating a quite stunning descent and it's now almost time for the 7.1km Côte de Saint-Apollinaire.

Still fully intact with 36 riders in this breakaway. Will be very surprised if that stays the same by the time this climb is finished. 

Almost on cue, Neilands threatens to accelerate and Hindley is right onto his back wheel and through to the front with fellow pure climber Meintjes. 

Ben Healy goes! The Irishman loves a long-range move and he is getting things started with 6.8km left to climb here. Rider from Red Bull and Israel-Premier Tech chasing him.

It's Sobrero and Neilands who have marked out Healy, with Lemmen also getting into the quartet. Lots of hesitation behind but also lots of metres left to climb.

Thomas and Van den Broek have been able to bridge across with Healy letting the pressure off for a moment. Bernard is trying to make sure Trek are represented.

Things all come together but the pace is still right up there in the break. 5.4km to go until the crest.

Sean Quinn is the next to go for EF, with the Stars and Stripes USA champion's jersey fully on display.

Lazkano is bridging to the American and towing the whole breakaway with him. Still no significant separations in the breakaway. 

Healy goes again! Lemmen chases him once more with Thomas doing so much work to chase things down for Kwiatkowski.

Still no joy for EF who are trying everything to secure back-to-back breakaway success. Johannessen tried to get Uno-X into a great spot off the front but he was similarly chased back quickly.

Lemmen is doing a fantastic job for Van Aert as he marshals the moves for his leader. Quinn, Kwiatkowski have both tried in the final 3.5km of the climb but with no success. 

Riders are going out the back under the pressure of all the attacking - Sobrero, Armirail, Godon and Juul-Jensen all fading and finished. 

Johannessen is emptying himself in the final 2km of the climb but Lemmen is putting any of the riders off from fully committing with his stern defence for Van Aert. 

Campenaerts and Van Aert have started to show themselves more towards the top of the climb. They both look strong after hiding in the group when the first few waves of attacks were launched. 

Johannessen wins the KOM sprint and brings the race onto the descent, with only one categorised climb remaining on the route and the undulating drag towards Barcelonnette.

Nine-minute gap to the peloton who are now sharing round a family pack of peanut M&M's if you wanted an idea of the pace they are riding at.

Healy's aggressive efforts have seen him spat out the back towards the top of the climb with those who were struggling on the lower slopes. This leaves Quinn and Carapaz in the front group without much terrain that particularly suits them. 

No stress for race leader Tadej Pogačar today, just a day of getting around safely before the final weekend GC battle gets going tomorrow.

The riders set to benefit most on GC in the breakaway are Stef Cras (TotalEnergies) and Guillaume Martin (Cofidis). We've seen the latter move into the top 10 at the Tour with similar tactics but they will need more than 15 minutes over Santiago Buitrago to overtake him for tenth. The gap is currently just over 10 minutes. 

Thomas and Aranburu have nipped off the front of the breakaway with the big group splintering all over the place before the final climb. Five riders are bridging across to make it seven in the front - Quinn, Lemmen, Neilands, Johannessen and Zimmermann.

Gap between the seven in front and the rest of the chasing breakaway is out to 15 seconds now but Lemmen is sitting on at the back with leader Van Aert still behind. 

The race has hit the final climb of the day, the Côte des Demoiselles Coiffées (3.5 km at 5.4%) and TotalEnergies are using their numerical advantage to pace back onto the seven that got away. Could someone launch solo on this climb or will it all come down to a tactical finale into Barcelonnette?

TotalEnergies launch an attack through Jegat with their multiple riders hoping to repeat Anthony Turgis' success from stage 9. He's followed by Bernard, Lemmen and Prodhomme with 2.2km to go to the crest. 

Lazkano counters with all the power and faces he's got, dropping big power on the climb. Lemmen again stays strong to chase him down and mark out everything. What a day it's been for the Tour debutant on Visma. If Van Aert wins, he will owe a lot to Lemmen. 

Bernard and Lazkano have stopped pushing on so hard on the attack with Lemmen just stifling everything for the moment. All back together and approaching the crest of the climb. 

Kwiatkowski launches another move in the approach to the KOM sprint. Neilands failed to bring him back and he's pushing on with the descent to come. Carapaz has sprinted over the top and is chasing down his former teammate. 

Kwiatkowski has managed to hold his advantage on the start of the descent and no one behind is willing to commit to the chase. The Pole has seven seconds on those behind. 

With the gap behind going out to 11 minutes, Derek Gee has put his Israel-Premier Tech teammates to work to ensure it doesnt get any closer. 

Kwiatkowski is still kicking on but the attacks to catch him are coming thick and fast. Campenaerts is trying to bridge to his wheel with one of the TotalEnergies riders.

Kwiatkowski was right on the limit as he navigated the technical descent, however, behind him Johannessen went down really hard and is in serious pain. This also held up the chasers and the gap to the lead trio is now out to 21 seconds. He's thankfully back on the bike.

It's Vercher from Total who is with the Ineos and Lotto riders in the front. Kwiatkowski particularly is an excellent descender and is really saving energy thanks to his technique. 

There are five riders bridging across to the three leaders on an 11-second gap - Skujins, Lemmen, Hindley, Neilands and Lazkano. Van Aert is in the much bigger group 31 seconds down on the road with the likes of Carapaz and Poels.

Here's a look at Jake Stewart leading the peloton for Israel-Premier Tech's Derek Gee who sits ninth overall. The gap to the breakaway is at 12:38.

Kwiatkowski, Campenaerts and Vercher were getting caught but they have eked out their lead to 20 seconds on the chasing five and 45 on the chasing remnants of the break, who have been rejoined by Johannessen after his crash. 

The bigger chase group is struggling to get anything organised with only short attacks being launched and no proper pursuit being mounted. Van Aert and co. are seeing the stage win disappear up the road at this rate. 

The trio in front are doing a tremendous job to keep the pressure on. Hindley and Lazkano's group are struggling massively to cooperate and they are still 23 seconds down. 

Van Aert launches a desperate move to try and make it across to his teammate Lemmen and then to the leading group. Is it too late and too big a gap to close down?

The Van Aert attack came to nothing and he seems to have got it all wrong after he and Lemmen were doing so well earlier. The group behind simply won't cooperate and is too big to sort itself out into a chase. 

Kwiatkowski and Vercher will be counting their blessings to have Campenaerts with them here as one of the best riders on the flat in the world and a real powerhouse at keeping a breakaway ahead. 

Kwiatkowski and Campenaerts getting into what looks to be the decisive move of the stage. The Hindley group is now at 45 seconds, while the bigger Van Aert bunch is still 1:08 behind and failing to get moving. 

The trio in front are now onto a long section of uncategorised climbing. Still all to play for in the front group. The chasers are 47 seconds behind and the bigger group 1:12 now. 

Madouas has launched out of the big chasing group and is closing in on the five in the middle who are now 54 seconds away from the lead trio. 

Still the trio in front are working well together. They have a healthy lead so can afford to play with the time a little bit.

With the gap to the peloton around 14 minutes from the bigger chasing group, Cras and Martin could be set to move into the top 10 on GC if it gets any bigger. Israel for Gee and Bahrain for Buitrago should be pacing behind to try and protect their leaders. 

Kwiatkowski is tightening the shoes and getting ready for the finale now with 6km to go. He and Campenaerts will be the favourite over Vercher in the sprint but the young and relatively unknown Frenchman could surprise them.

The trio in front are through the majority of the uphill roads in the final with a somewhat flat finale to come. Campenaerts is the best on the flat but how much will he have in the tank after a brutal day in the breakaway and the heat?

The gap to the five-man chase group has come down slightly to below 40 seconds with Van Aert and the bigger bunch now 45 seconds down. But Campenaerts, Kwiatkowski and Vercher should still be safe to make it home. 

Into the final 2.5km now and they are still rolling through at the front but beginning to look around at each other slightly. 

Kwiatkowski is covered in salt showing just how hard a day it has been in the heat. He won a stage in the 2023 Tour, can he repeat the feat in 2024?

Campenaerts looks like he is struggling but he may be bluffing. Just 27 seconds to the chasers so they can't mess around too much. Vercher not doing too much at the back. 

Final sprint incoming for the trio in front with the Belgian now at the back and not wanting to hit the front. 

Vercher tried to stole a march but the Ineos man has chased him down and the sprint is still to come. 

Kwiatkowski moves across the road and the final run for the line begins with 250 to go. Vercher takes off in his wheel as does Campenaerts who explodes with a big sprint. 

Victor Campenaerts (Lotto Dstny) wins stage 18 of the Tour de France!

He kept his sprint all the way to the line and there's huge emotions at the finish line as he's straight on the phone with his partner and young son Gustaaf. Was he bluffing in the sprint? He won't care. He gets a stage win at the Tour to add to one from the Giro in 2021. An absolute master of the breakaway. 

The winning moment for Campenaerts in Barcelonnette. Tour debutant Matteo Vercher (TotalEnergies) takes a brilliant second place after crashing in the neutral zone at the beginning of stage 18. It's a good ride and third place for Kwiatkowski, who led out the sprint from good position but lacked the power to respond to the huge sprint of the Belgian.

What a moment for Campenaerts as he Facetimes family to celebrate and let all the emotions flow out. Shows just what it means to win a Tour de France stage and he's done it at the age of 32 and at the 10th Grand Tour of his career. 

The peloton full of the key GC riders has finally rolled across the line 13:40 behind the breakaway. Israel-Premier Tech successfully did their job to defend Derek Gee's ninth overall but the gap to Steff Cras (TotalEnergies) and Guillaume Martin (Cofidis) has closed with them now in 12th and 13th just 1:30 away from the top 10.

Campenaerts gave a wonderfully emotional interview post-race, with huge credit to his girlfriend for her support. It's hard to quantify just how much a Tour win means for the tiniest percentage of pro riders who ever make it there but this perhaps characterises it best:

"As a real professional, you have to ride the Tour de France, finish the Tour de France and winning a stage is everybody's dream. I'm not a neo-pro, I've been dreaming about this for a very, very long time," said an emotional Campenaerts, who fought back tears in his interview.

"After the Classics, I had a very difficult time. I had a verbal agreement with the team about extending the contract and I got ignored for a long time and it was really difficult. 

"I was on a long altitude camp but my girlfriend was there and she supported me every day highly pregnant and I was struggling to finish my training schedules. But I changed my mind, I have a bright future now still in cycling, I became a father and it was like blue skies, only blue sky.

"I start to feel very good and very good on the bike and coming to this Tour de France with a super motivated team, we have a super good atmosphere in the team. This is just the sum of this atmosphere in the team and we're going to celebrate tonight."

Here's what Wout van Aert made of stage 18 after missing out on victory again at the Tour de France:

"I know it's hard to win from the break for everyone and I have to say when Kwiato went, he was strong and I was kind of on the limit on the top of that KOM but it's a shame afterwards I had to gamble a bit into the easiest part of the stage," he told Eurosport as he described where it went wrong and he missed the key move.

"I said to Bart [Lemmen] to jump with the counterattacks and I was sitting a bit in the back. I came down that descent and everything was over."

Van Aert could still be key in the final two mountain stages as he tries to help Jonas Vingegaard pull back a 3:11 deficit to Tadej Pogačar, but he'll be looking for some help from his team in the opening phase.

"Still two really big days to come and I hope the guys in the bunch had an easier day than we had so they can at least do the beginning tomorrow.

Tour de France: Victor Campenaerts surges from three-rider breakaway for stage 18 victory

Campenaerts celebrated with his Lotto-Dstny teammates after the podium ceremony. They came here as a team with the big goal of winning one stage. Arnaud De Lie and Maxim Van Gils seemed their best options but after neither of them managed it in the opening 17 stages, Campenaerts has come to Lotto's rescue.

Campenaerts is also reportedly set to be joining Visma-Lease a Bike which is news that emerged from media in Belgium in June, as he set out his sights on this Tour de France and becoming a domestique in future with the Dutch squad:

One man's glory at the Tour de France comes with disappointment for all those who finished behind him. Here's an exhausted and emotional Mattéo Vercher (TotalEnergies) after the finish line, after putting in a valiant effort to come second behind only Campenaerts. After crashing in the neutral zone and being on Tour debut in 2024, he has a lot to be proud of.

Another stage win goes amiss for Wout van Aert. He is looking in great form before the Paris Olympics but would have wanted to regain that winning feeling ahead of the road race on August 3:

Another successful day in yellow as Pogačar gets through stage 18 safely. His time will come tomorrow when the race takes on the queen stage to Isola 2000. It could be the best chance for rival Vingegaard to close the gap enough and be within striking distance on the similarly tough stage 20 and final time trial into Nice on Sunday. 

Here's a look at the profile for tomorrow's 'anything can happen' hellish 144.6km stage, with three of the hardest climbs of the race all on the same route:

Col de Vars - 18.8km at 5.7%

Cime de la Bonette - 22.9km at 6.9%

Isola 2000 - 16.1km at 7.1%

This is not to mention the altitude, above 2,000 metres on all three summits and at 2802 atop the crest of the Bonette, and the heat in southeast France which is certain to play a role. It will be brutal, explosive and is surely set to be a deciding factor in who wins the 2024 Tour de France.

In general, Thursday's stage 18 was a transition stage. But in reality it proved be a highly emotional victory for stage winner Victor Campenaerts. After leading the three-rider break across the finish line, the Belgian tried to focus through tears on his mobile phone as he spoke to his girlfriend Nel, who was with their newborn son Gustaaf. Visma-lejren påpeger detalje: - Det er irriterende

Michal Kwiatkowski fra INEOS, Victor Campenaerts fra Lotto og Mattéo Vercher fra TotalEnergies slog det afgørende hul efter den sidste kategoriserede stigning på 18. etape. Og her hæfter Visma-lejren, der havde Bart Lemmen og Wout van Aert i udbrud, sig ved en motorcykel.

- De tre kørte væk på nedkørslen. Jeg bremsede heller ikke der, og alligevel stak de af. Det er, fordi der kører en motorcykel foran. Det er bare irriterende. Hvis en motorcykel kører 20 meter foran, kører du ikke 80, men 85 kilometer i timen. Så stikker du af, siger Lemmen til Wielerflits efter etapen.

- Om motorcyklen kostede mig forbindelsen til de tre? Det kan du aldrig vide, og jeg vil ikke spekulere for meget, men det hjalp bestemt ikke. Så ja, det er bittert. Men jeg er også i følelsernes vold lige nu. I den sidste time har jeg kun kigget på et baghjul og sagt til mig selv, at jeg ikke skulle pive.

Visma-sportsdirektør Merijn Zeeman bemærkede også motorcyklen.

- Der var et afgørende øjeblik, da Tobias Halland Johannessen styrtede, og gruppen med Bart Lemmen fik ikke hentet de forreste. Hvis det var sket, kunne han have vundet – og måske også Wout, fordi samarbejdet ville være gået i stykker (i den forreste gruppe, red.).

Grådkvalt rytter undskylder – måtte trøstes af holdet

Mattéo Vercher var knust efter 18. etape, hvor franskmanden åbnede sin spurt for tidligt, og han blev efterfølgende slået af Victor Campenaerts. Efter etapen sad han op ad et hegn og kunne ikke stoppe med at græde, mens holdkammeraterne fra TotalEnergies trøstede ham. Det viser en video, som Touren har lagt op .

Det er godt, min ven ... Du kan være stolt, lød det fra én holdkammerat.

- Undskyld …

Vær ikke ked af det. Det var dig, der reddede dagen. Så du, hvad du gjorde?

- Det er åbenlyst, siger Evenepoel

I morgen er en helt, helt anden historie. Hvordan ser du frem til den: Det bliver en virkelig hård etape?

- Ja, jeg tænker, det er åbenlyst. Bjergene er ikke så stejle som dem i Pyrenæerne. Det gør det til en lidt mere slipstream climbing , siger Remco Evenepoel efter 18. etape til blandt andre TV 2 Sport og henviser til, at det kan give mere at ligge på hjul fredag, fordi stigningerne er mindre stejle end i Pyrenæerne.

- Men det bliver formentlig et fyrværkeri. To store klassementsdage – og måske to store dage for et udbrud. Men jeg tænker, det bliver to klassementsdage. Jeg skal være klar de to dage, så jeg kan forsvare min tredjeplads. Vi må se, om der er mulighed for en etapesejr, men det vil være svært.

Hej Rasmus, hvornår tænker du at Pogacar vil lave et angreb i morgen. hvilken stigning er mest oplagt?

Hej Morten 🙂

Jeg er overbevist om, at hvis Pogacar angriber, bliver det på den sidste stigning, Isola 2000, som han kender rigtig godt. Pogacar skal virkelig føle sig godt kørende, hvis han skal angribe på Bonette, og jeg tror kun, at det muligvis sker, hvis Vingegaard har angrebet der, og at de så sidder sammen, hvorfra Pogacar føler sig stærk nok til at køre videre. Men Isola 2000 er mit klare bud.

Synes man sidder med en frygt på at vingegaard godt kunne knække de sidste dage her desværre, synes der er mange signaler på det. Hvad tænker i ?

Hej Thomas 🙂

Vingegaard plejer ikke decideret at knække, men jeg er enig i, at flere ting indikerer, at han ikke er et sted, hvor man kan drømme om, at han ligefrem henter tid på Pogacar med en stor offensiv. Jeg ved ikke, om han er syg, men det er bestemt ikke noget godt signal, at han har det varmt og er træt efter sådan en dag her. Jeg er meget, meget spændt på at høre fra ham inden etapen i morgen.

Pogacar med offensiv udmelding

Tadej Pogacar er klar til de kommende to bjergetaper, der byder på store stigninger i Alperne.

- Det var en ret hård anden uge. Men jeg klar mentalt og fysisk, siger Pogacar på pressemødet efter 18. etape.

- Vi har et stærkt hold, og måske vil vi endda gå efter etapesejren i morgen og lørdag. Det må vi se.

Samtidig har Pogacar trænet en del i området, hvor rytterne kører i morgen, og han har været på træningslejr på Isola 2000, der er afslutningen lørdag.

- Jeg tror, at det er en fordel, at vi slutter på min hjemmebane. Jeg ved dog ikke, hvor stor en fordel det bliver. Jeg kender alle stigningerne og nedkørslerne. Det er en god ting, at jeg kender vejene, så jeg ved, hvad der venter.

Var i tårer efter styrt – nu er der godt nyt

Heldigvis er intet brækket for Tobias Halland Johannessen, der styrtede hårdt på en nedkørsel under 18. etape. Nordmanden fra Uno-X-holdet faldt hårdt ned på venstre side, og cykeltøjet var flået i stykker på blandt andet skulderen.

Nu står det klart, at han ikke har nogen brud, men mange sår på kroppen, og der vil først fredag blive taget en beslutning om, hvorvidt han kører videre i Tour de France, skriver holdet på X .

Efter etapen blev Halland Johannessen interviewet af TV 2 Norge , hvor han stod i tårer og fortalte, at situationen var "virkelig irriterende".

Vingegaards holdkammerat led voldsomt

Bart Lemmen fra Team Visma | Lease a Bike var flyvende på torsdagens etape, men kræfterne løb op til sidst, og han blev nummer seks på etapen.

- Jeg havde det meget godt, men den sidste time led jeg voldsomt, siger Lemmen, der er Tour-debutant, til Vismas egen hjemmeside .

- På grund af alt arbejdet gennem dagen var jeg drænet. Jeg blev ved med at muntre mig selv op til at fortsætte. Da gruppen stadig var komplet, reagerede jeg på alle angreb i Wouts tjeneste. Senere befandt jeg mig i en fordelagtig position. Desværre kunne vi ikke slutte os til den førende gruppe, men jeg nød denne etape, tilføjer hollænderen.

"Jeg kunne ikke reagere" – Van Aert gamblede

Efter etapen har Wout van Aert sat nogle ord på nøglemomentet i udbruddet, hvor Kwiatkowski angreb og kørte væk med omkring 40 kilometer til mål.

- Jeg kunne ikke reagere, da Kwiatkowski accelererede. Han kørte meget hårdt. Jeg gamblede et øjeblik ved ikke at reagere på Campenaerts' acceleration. Set i bakspejlet missede jeg en plads i det rigtige udbrud der. Efter dét var det en lang jagt. Stor ros til de tre, der formåede at stikke afsted. Bart (Lemmen, red.) var også meget stærk i dag. Det er rart for ham at få en topti-placering i Touren, siger Van Aert til Visma-holdets hjemmeside .

Samtidig storroser Van Aert sin holdkammerat Bart Lemmen for det føringsarbejde, hollænderen leverede.

- Jeg kørte første gang med Bart Lemmen i Norge Rundt, og der mærkede jeg straks, hvor stærk han er. Vi vidste på holdet, at han var en rigtig god erstatning til Touren. På et tidspunkt sagde jeg også, at han skulle køre for sin egen placering. Jeg kører kun sådan en etape for at vinde, men for ham er det flot at opnå en topti-placering i Touren. Vi prøvede at hjælpe hinanden så længe som muligt, men dybt inde i finalen var det op til Bart, siger Van Aert ifølge Wielerflits .

Vingegaard var træt

Efter dagens etape fik vi ikke noget interview fra Jonas Vingegaard. Danskeren gik direkte ind i holdbussen uden at cykle af, og der var han så længe, at der af logistiske årsager ikke var tid til et interview, da bussen skulle afsted.

Til TV 2 Sport har Vismas presseafdeling forklaret, at Vingegaard ikke cyklede af, fordi han var træt og havde det varmt.

Det sker meget sjældent, at Vingegaard ikke cykler af efter etaperne.

Lemmen står med blandede følelser

Pogacar forholder sig til mulig alliance med Evenepoel

Efter etapen har Tadej Pogacar været på sit pressemøde, hvor han er blevet spurgt til en mulig alliance med Remco Evenepoel på weekendens bjergetaper?

- Ja, måske kan vi være det (allierede, red.). Det afhænger af situationen. Remco er rimelig tilfreds med sin tredjeplads. Jeg ved ikke, om der kan være en alliance mellem ham og mig. Det bliver nok alle mod alle, og så må vi se, om vi prøver på noget. Det kommer til at handle om benene og ikke så meget om taktik.

Vingegaard stiller ikke op til interview

Vi havde håbet på at høre fra Jonas Vingegaard efter dagens etape, men det kommer ikke til at ske.

- Vi kommer ikke til at tale med Jonas Vingegaard i dag. Holdets forklaring er, at det er logistikken, der gør det. Bussen skal til at køre nu, og Vingegaard har brugt så lang tid på at tale etapen igennem med sine holdkammerater – måske også tale lidt om i morgen. Derfor kommer han ikke ud og giver sit syn på den her etape, fortæller vores reporter Kasper Højstrup, der er ved Visma-bussen.

Campenaerts rørt til tårer igen

Så får vi et meget dybfølt interview med Victor Campenaerts efter dagens etape.

- Som en rigtig professionel skal man køre Tour de France og gennemføre det, og at vinde en etape i Tour de France er enhvers drøm, siger belgieren med gråd i stemmen, inden han tager luft ind.

- Jeg har drømt om det i rigtig lang tid (at vinde en Tour-etape, red.). Efter Flandern-klassikerne havde jeg en rigtig svær tid, siger Campenaerts, inden han kommer ind på den manglende kontraktforlængelse hos Lotto-holdet.

- Jeg blev ignoreret i rigtig lang tid, og det var rigtig svært. Jeg var på en lang højdetræningslejr, og min kæreste var der. Hun støttede mig hver dag, mens hun var gravid, siger Campenaerts og græder, inden han fortsætter:

- Jeg havde svært ved at gennemføre mine træningsplaner, men jeg ændrede mit syn og så, at jeg har en god fremtid i cykling. Så blev jeg far, og så var alt blå himmel, og jeg begyndte at have det godt på cyklen. Vi kom til Touren med et super motiveret hold og en positiv atmosfære på holdet. Det her er summen af atmosfæren på holdet, og vi skal fejre det i dag.

Jeg samler naturligvis op på dagens etape i min analyse, inden jeg skriver optakt til morgendagens store bjergetape, der med nogen ret kan betegnes som kongeetapen.

Panik hos INEOS

INEOS begynder nu at have kurs mod en trist Tour. Kwiatkowski havde alletiders chance for at redde løbet for dem, og nu ser det ud til, at de skal hjem uden etapesejr. Podiet ser også svært ud for Rodríguez, der i hvert fald meget gerne skal i topfem, hvis løbet skal være nogenlunde godkendt.

Til gengæld er det de små holds Tour. Nu fik vi også Lotto på tavlen. Dermed har to af de fire ProTeams vundet, ligesom flere af de mindste WorldTour-hold (Arkéa, DSM, Astana, Intermarché, Jayco) alle er på tavlen.

Bahrain er kølige

Nu har vi fået en reaktion fra Israel-Premier Tech, Lidl-Trek og AG2R. Kun Bahrain er helt kølige i forhold til Buitragos top-10. Nu hvor tidsblødningen er stoppet, er der heller ingen langsigtet trussel fra Cras og Martin. Selv hvis de skulle snige sig ind i top-10 i dag, er det helt sikkert en placering, de med det beskedne forspring ikke kan forsvare de kommende dage.

Imponerende af Campenaerts

Det var perfekt og køligt kørt at Campenaerts. Det så ud til, at Kwiatkowski bevidst åbnede et hul til Vercher – eller også havde han bare for travlt med at kigge bagud på belgieren – og det var en fejl. Campenaerts var kølig nok til at overlade ansvaret til polakken, der selv måtte lukke det hul, han selv skabte, og da begge de to andre havde brugt kræfter, viste han, hvorfor han slog Stybar i den spurt, jeg nævnte tidligere.

Så er han på etapesejre i både Giroen og Touren. Nu må vi have ham til Vueltaen.

Campenaerts rørt til tårer

Victor Campenaerts er på telefonen og facetimer med kæresten og deres nyfødte baby Gustaaf, der kom til verden 8. juni. Rørende billeder!

Mens de forreste har krydset stregen, er favoritterne knap 10 kilometer fra mål.

Tour de France 2024 Route stage 18: Gap - Barcelonnette

A start at breakneck speeds is to be expected as the first 17 kilometres run false flat downhill. The riders then enter the first and longest climb of the day, Col du Festre, which starts out at moderate gradients and gradually gets steeper. The Festre totals 13.8 kilometres and the average gradient sits at 4.3%. A long downhill then leads to the foot of the Côte de Corps (3.3 kilometres at 4.5%), and on it goes to the Côte de Costes (2.6 kilometres at 6%).

The riders are 75 kilometres into the race after the Costes. In fact, from the Festre onwards they are on the parcours of 2020’s 4th stage, which went to ski station Orcières-Merlette and was won by Primoz Roglic in a group sprint ahead of Tadej Pogacar.

The route goes its own way after moving through Saint-Bonnet-en-Champsaur and then enters the Col de Manse (6.3 kilometres at 3.7%). A long descent brings the riders back in the valley before they climb to Chorges and continue onto the Côte de Saint-Apollinaire (7.9 kilometres at 5.2%). Right after the descent they cross a reservoir, Lac du Serre-Ponçon, before the Côte de Demoiselles Coiffées (6.4 kilometres at 3.8%) presents the umpteenth obstacle.

A rolling section of 5 kilometres precedes a short descent and flat section along the Ubaye. After crossing the river the route climbs for 2.7 kilometres at 4.5% before the rest of the route follows the rivers further upstream at very shallow gradients. This final section is almost 25 kilometres long – most of it is false flat, although the last 5 kilometres are effectually flat.

Barcelonnette never before hosted a Tour de France stage finish.

The first three riders across the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6, and 4 seconds.

Tour de France 2024 - Etape 18 : Parcours détaillé et des favoris

Présentation du parcours et des favoris de la 18e étape du Tour de France 2024 entre Gap et Barcelonnette, pour une étape toujours en prise, longue de 180 km et destinée aux baroudeurs. A moins qu'un sprinteur polyvalent ne jette son dévolu dessus.

Date de l'étape 18 : jeudi 18 juillet

Horaire de l'étape : départ à 13 h 30 et arrivée à 17 h 30 environ, le parcours complet du tour de france 2024 en détail, le match sera ouvert entre les équipes de sprinteurs polyvalents et les plus courageux qui se mettront en travers de leur route. les hommes rapides ne devront pas avoir froid aux yeux avec les 3 135 mètres de déclivité, pour tenter d'aller décrocher la dernière étape à leur convenance., profil de l'étape 18 du tour de france 2024 :.

Analyse du parcours de la 18ᵉ étape du tour de france 2024 :.

Si le Col de Festre est répertorié sur 3.9 kilomètres à 6.3 %, on peut aisément prolonger le plaisir en catégorisant la montée sur 13.5 kilomètres à 4.2 %. L'ascension de cette difficulté se fait en jonchant les pics rocheux, tout en épousant les formes du Béoux. Ce n'est qu'une fois le petit torrent quittait que la partie finale commence.

La côte de Corps (2.1 kilomètres à 7.2 %) offre une magnifique vue sur le Lac du Sautet, à défaut de donner quelques désagréments pour les coureurs.

Située à mi-course, le col de Manse (5.1 kilomètres à 3.6 %) est à l'image des difficultés qui mèneront à Barcelonnette. C'est-à-dire qu'elle ajoute de la fatigue à des corps déjà meurtri par trois semaines de course.

Au cours de la montée de la côte de Saint-Apollinaire (7 kilomètres à 5.5 %), la vue sera imprenable sur le Pic des Chabrières. Pas certain que les puncheurs comme mentionnés par Christian Prudhomme se servent d'Apollinaire comme Barzotti le faisait.

Le constat est le même pour la côte des Demoiselles Coiffées (3.6 kilomètres à 5.4 %) qui ouvre, au sommet, 40 kilomètres favorables à une meute en chasse.

Descriptif du final de la dix-huitième étape du Tour de France 2024 :

8.2 kilomètres de l'arrivée  : en tournant sur la droite, le peloton va prolonger le plaisir en faisant un détour. Au lieu de suivre la route principale vers la destination d'arrivée.

2.9 kilomètres de l'arrivée  : une fois les carrières de franchie, il faudra remonter vers la ligne d'arrivée.

Sur une belle route propre à une organisation militaire derrière d'éventuels fuyards à portée de fusil.

300 mètres de l'arrivée  : franchissement de l'Ubaye

200 mètres de l'arrivée  : dernière ligne droite

Encore une journée qui doit théoriquement sourire aux échappées. Les baroudeurs devront profiter du long col roulant de Festre pour s'extirper du peloton. Attention cependant, les 35 derniers kilomètres promettent un feu d'artifice. Avec un vent portant qui ne cessera de se renforcer, les meilleurs rouleurs pourraient trouver une occasion parfaite de faire la nique à un groupe, qui devra nécessairement s'entendre pour ne pas voir la victoire filer entre les mains.

Les favoris de la dix-huitième étape du Tour de France 2024 :

Celle-ci, elle n'échappera pas aux baroudeurs. Depuis, son annonce, tous les coureurs le savent. Une échappée ira au bout. La question est donc de savoir : qui sera dans cette évasion, qu'aucune équipe ne voudra rater ? La bataille va être très longue et les différentes côtes devraient aider, notamment la côte Festre, en début de parcours. Il ne faudra pas forcément être grimpeur pour gagner, mais il faudra être capable d'avaler 7 kilomètres de montée dans le final, à 5.5%, avec la côte de Saint-Apollinaire. Cela ferait donc un tri parmi les candidats à la victoire.

Avant le départ du Tour de France, on avait jeté notre dévolu sur Alberto Bettiol, grand favori de cette 18e étape arrivant à Barcelonnette. Mais l'Italien est malade depuis plusieurs jours et a abandonné. Les espoirs de la Education First Easy-Post, de doubler la mise, reposeront donc sur Neilson Powless, Rui Costa et Ben Healy , en grande forme. L'équipe Décathlon AG2R, inexistante depuis le début de la Grande Boucle, va tout jouer sur cette étape, avec des coureurs comme Paul Lapeira ou Dorian Godon . L'absence de benoit Cosnefroy se fait clairement ressentir. Valentin Madouas et Romain Grégoire seront les deux gros candidats, du côté de la Groupama-FDJ. Si tenté que les efforts du jour ne pèsent pas trop lourds. Tandis que Cofidis devrait miser sur Axel Zingle et Simon Geschke . Kevin Vauquelin serait une des autres chances françaises, tout comme Warren Barguil. La Movistar sera une nouvelle fois un des épouvantails, cette fois avec Alex Aranburu , qui a l'avantage de pouvoir gagner au sprint et Oier Lazkano , qui pourrait faire parler ses qualités de rouleur dans le final. Cela sera peut-être trop dur pour Jonas Abrahamsen, mais on est certains qu'il essaiera un dernier baroude d'honneur sur une étape qui lui convient plutôt bien. C'est aussi une étape taillée pour Matej Mohoric, mais ce dernier invisible jusqu'ici a semblé privilégier la carte du collectif. Si le sociétaire de la Bahrain-Victorious a les mêmes jambes que la veille, il pourrait être un client redoutable dans un final qui demande la combinaison de la tête et des jambes ? Enfin, Mathieu Van der Poel, Wout Van Aert ou encore Michael Matthews et Jan Tratnik sont des favoris logiques grâce à leur profil. La question sera de savoir, si les Visma - Lease a Bike ne seront pas mis au repos en vue de l'étape du lendemain. Jonas Vingegaard bien que sonné est toujours sur le ring. Le danois a semble-t-il envie de rendre les coups reçus. Quant à MVDP, on peut se questionner sur les visées de Jasper Philipsen. Les Alpecin Deceuninck pourraient avoir un coup à jouer au classement du meilleur sprint. 33 points séparent le Belge de Biniam Girmay, un gouffre à 4 jours de l'arrivée. Mais un écart, qui si les astres sont alignés, pourrait se combler.

Vous l'aurez compris, les candidats sont nombreux et cette étape sera peut-être l'une des plus passionnantes pour les baroudeurs patentés.

À environ 80km de l’arrivée de la 18e étape du Tour de France ce jeudi, Jasper Philipsen a tenté d'intimider Pascal Eenkhoorn, qui essayait de sortir du peloton, en venant jouer des coudes avec le coureur néerlandais. Si elle n’a pas été sanctionnée, cette attitude a quelque peu écorné l’image du sprinteur belge.

"J'étais assez ému", admet Pogacar après sa défaillance sur la 17e étape mercredi

Tadej Pogacar: "J'ai plutôt bien dormi, la journée s'est bien passée. Je m'en suis remis, c'était difficile au début. J'étais assez ému mais tout le monde m'a remonté le moral dans le peloton. C'était bien d'être dans le peloton pour une journée plus calme. Je n'arrive pas à croire tout le soutien que j'ai reçu, déjà hier pendant toute l'ascension. Il y a tellement de gens qui m'ont soutenu, et ma famille, ma compagne aussi. Tout le public le long de la route aussi, je suis reconnaissant d'avoir tous ces fans qui me soutiennent."

"Beaucoup de motivation", Pinot annonce la couleur avant la 20e étape dans les Vosges

Thibaut Pinot (France 2): "C’était une journée horrible aujourd’hui. Mentalement, c’était très compliqué car on était off pour essayer de récupérer l’étape d’hier. Samedi, ce sont des routes que je connais par coeur et il y a beaucoup de motivation."

Samedi, dans les Vosges, six cols classés seront au programme des coureurs, avec notamment deux cols de 1ère catégorie pour finir.

La première réaction du héros du jour, Kasper Asgreen

La réaction de Kasper Asgreen, vainqueur de cette 18e étape: "On a eu des semaines difficiles. On a déjà eu des petits groupes comme ça qui pouvaient battre les sprinteurs. C’était un chrono par équipe aujourd’hui (sourire). Je suis très heureux de cette victoire, ça veut dire beaucoup pour moi avec tout ce que j’ai vécu depuis ma chute sur le Tour de Suisse (en juin 2022). J’ai fait un long chemin, je reviens de loin."

ET LA VICTOIRE DE KASPER AGREEEN !

L'échappée est allée au bout ! Les quatre hommes de tête ont résisté au peloton jusqu'à la ligne et c'est le coureur danois de la Soudal Quick-Step qui s'impose au sprint. Le peloton a échoué à seulement quelques mètres.

Aucun changement au classement général, Jonas Vingegaard reste largement en tête.

7 secondes d'avance pour Kasper Asgreen, Victor Campenaerts, Pascal Eenkhoorn et Jonas Abrahams, qui ne lâchent rien !

3,5km - Moins de 10 secondes pour les échappés

Le peloton devrait - normalement - les avaler. Mais rien n'est fait dans ce final très tendu.

5km - Le peloton revient fort

Sous la bannière des 5km, les échappés ont moins de 15 secondes d'avance. Le peloton revient.

7km - Gros numéro des quatre échappés

Kasper Asgreen, Victor Campenaerts, Pascal Eenkhoorn et Jonas Abrahamsen ne faiblissent pas et restent à environ 20-25 secondes devant le peloton. Et si... ?

9km - Toujours la vingtaine de secondes d'avance pour les hommes de tête

Le peloton peine à s'organiser et les échappés peuvent toujours y croire.

13km - Du mouvement dans l'échappée

Les quatre hommes de tête tentent de mettre un dernier coup de collier. 27 secondes d'avance pour l'échappée.

15km -Les échappés continuent de perdre du terrain

Moins de 30 secondes d'avance désormais pour Kasper Asgreen, Victor Campenaerts, Pascal Eenkhoorn et Jonas Abrahamsen.

18km - 40 secondes d'avance pour les hommes de tête

Le peloton sait qu'il n'a plus de temps à perdre pour revenir et jouer la victoire d'étape au sprint. Les équipes qui ont des coureurs dans l'échappée tentent de semer la zizanie en tête du peloton.

23km - Les échappés font de la résistance

Kasper Asgreen, Victor Campenaerts, Pascal Eenkhoorn et Jonas Abrahamsen maintiennent leur avance aux alentours des 45 secondes. Les équipes de sprinteurs vont devoir être vigilantes pour revenir avant le final.

29km - Les quatre hommes de tête perdent du terrain

Désormais une grosse quarantaine de secondes d'avance pour les échappés. Le peloton s'est remis en ordre de marche.

35km - L'échappée toujours au-dessus de la minute

Kasper Asgreen, Victor Campenaerts, Pascal Eenkhoorn et Jonas Abrahamsen ont 1'03" d'avance sur le peloton.

42km - Toujours la minute d'avance pour l'échappée

Les quatre hommes de tête (Kasper Asgreen, Victor Campenaerts, Pascal Eenkhoorn et Jonas Abrahamsen) maintiennent leur avance sur le peloton.

50km - Abrahamsen règle le sprint intermédiaire

Le coureur norvégien a réglé ses compagnons d'échappée au sprint.

52km - Regroupement en tête de course

Ils sont désormais quatre à l'avant: les deux coéquipiers Campanaerts et Eenkhorn ont rejoint Abrahamsen et Asgreen. L'écart est de 55 secondes avec le peloton.

61km - Campanaerts attend Eenkhoorn

Membre du trio de tête, Campanaerts s'est relevé pour attendre Eekhoorn, son coéquipier. Les deux coéquipiers sont à 9 secondes de Kasper Asgreen et Jonas Abrahamsen. Le peloton pointe lui à 46 secondes de la tête.

65km - Attaque de Pascal Eenkhoorn

Le coureur néerlandais est sorti du peloton et a pris plusieurs dizaines de mètres d'avance. Il est intercalé entre le peloton et les trois hommes de tête, Kasper Asgreen, Victor Campenaerts et Jonas Abrahamsen.

67km - L'écart se réduit pour les trois hommes de tête

Kasper Asgreen, Victor Campenaerts et Jonas Abrahamsen ont désormais 25 secondes d'avance sur le peloton.

72km - Abandon de Simon Geschke

Le coureur allemand de Cofidis, malade et lâché par le peloton dès le début de l'étape, a jeté l'éponge. Il ne verra pas Paris.

76km - Fin de la contre-attaque, Lafay lâché

Pacher et Wrigt ont été repris par le peloton. Victor Lafay, lui, ne peut pas suivre et est lâché par le peloton.

79km - Plusieurs attaques pour sortir du peloton

Après Anthony Turgis, Quentin Pacher est sorti du peloton pouressayer derevenir sur les trois hommes de tête (Kasper Asgreen, Victor Campenaerts et Jonas Abrahamsen). Ces dernierrs ont 45 secondes d'avance sur le peloton.

80km- Ça accélère en tête du peloton

Le peloton se réveille et plusieurs équipes augmentent le tempo. Anthony Turgis tente de se faire la malle. Les trois hommes de tête sont à 35 secondes.

La moto France Télévisions de Thomas Voeckler a été exclue de la 18e étape du Tour de France après un incident dans le col de la Loze sur la 17e étape. Ce jeudi, l’ancien coureur a livré sa version des faits dans les colonnes du Parisien.

Les coureurs entrent dans l'Ain

A 96km de l'arrivée, les coureurs sont désormais dans le départment de l'Ain. Kasper Asgreen (Soudal-Quick Step), Victor Campenaerts (Lotto Dstny) et Jonas Abrahamssen (Uno-X), le trio de tête, compte toujours près d'1 minute d'avance sur le peloton, qui garde le contrôle de la situation et reste à distance raisonnable.

Plus que 100km avant l'arrivée à Bourg-en-Bresse

Il reste une centaine de kilomètres jusqu'au final de cette 18e étape. Les trois échappés ont repris un peu d'avance et comptent à nouveau une minute de marge sur le peloton, qui contrôle tranquillement l'affaire, emmené par les équipes de sprinteurs.

Les échappés abordent le tunnel du Chat avec (un peu) moins d'avance

A 108km de l'arrivée, le tio d'échappés, Kasper Asgreen (Soudal-Quick Step), Victor Campenaerts (Lotto Dstny) et Jonas Abrahamssen (Uno-X), ne compte plus que 40 secondes d'avance sur le peloton à l'heure de s'engouffrer dans le tunnel du Chat.

Les coureurs passent près du lac du Bourget

Les coureurs sont dans le secteur du lac du Bourget. Le ciel est dégagé en Savoie. Le thermomètre frôle avec les 30 degrés.

L'écart se maintient entre les échappés et le peloton

A 115km de l'arrivée de cette 18e étape, Kasper Asgreen (Soudal-Quick Step), Victor Campenaerts (Lotto Dstny) et Jonas Abrahamssen (Uno-X), le trio d'échappés, compte toujours près d'1 minute d'avance sur le peloton, qui maintient l'écart sur les routes de Savoie.

Abrahamsen est passé en tête en haut de la côte de Chambéry

Les échappés comptent près d'une minute d'avance.

A 123km de l'arrivée à Bourg-en-Bresse, Kasper Asgreen (Soudal-Quick Step), Victor Campenaerts (Lotto Dstny) et Jonas Abrahamssen (Uno-X), les trois échappés, comptent environ une minute d'avance sur le peloton au moment de l'ascension de la côte de Chambéry-le-Haut (1,6km à 4,3%).

Vingegaard tranquille dans le peloton

Après avoir écrasé la concurrence ces derniers jours, Jonas Vingegaard, le maillot jaune, est sereinement installé dans le peloton.

L'avance de l'échappée augmente (un peu)

Le trio de tête ne relâche pas son effort. Kasper Asgreen (Soudal-Quick Step), Victor Campenaerts (Lotto Dstny) et Jonas Abrahamssen (Uno-X) gagnent quelques secondes sur le peloton.

Les trois coureurs ont 1'10'' d'avance sur le peloton.

Toujours trois coureurs à l'avant

Personne ne sort du peloton pour se mêmer à l'échappée. Ils ne sont donc que trois à tenter d'animer cette étape: Kasper Asgreen (Soudal-Quick Step), Victor Campenaerts (Lotto Dstny) et Jonas Abrahamssen (Uno-X).

Derrière, la formation de Jasper Philipsen, grandissime favori en cas de sprint massif, contrôle tranquillement l'écart avec les hommes de tête.

L'échappée bien contrôlée par le peloton

Toujours trois coureurs à l'avant. Cette 18e étape entre Moûtiers et Bourg-en-Bresse peine à s'emballer. Après la rudesse du col de la Loze, mercredi, le spectacle ne devrait pas être emballant ce jeudi.

Le peloton contrôle tranquillement l'échappée et ne lui laisse qu'une petite minute d'avance. Sauf miracle, elle n'ira pas au bout et l'arrivée se règlera dans un sprint massif.

La défaillance de Pogacar l'a rendu encore plus populaire

En perdition dans le col de la Loze, Tadej Pogacar a réussi a gardé le sourire mercredi à l'arrivée de la 17e étape. Un état d'esprit qui a plu au public français selon Julien Jurdie.

Le directeur sportif de l'équipe AG2R-Citren a même comparé le Slovène à la légende Raymond Poulidor, l'éternel deuxième de la Grande Boucle.

Le Tour de France va "se remettre en cause" pour éviter les incidents créés par des motos dans les cols où prend place un public "nouveau", a indiqué jeudi à l'AFP le directeur technique de la Grand Boucle, Thierry Gouvenou.

Alors que deux motos avaient déjà ralenti Tadej Pogacar au sommet de Joux Plane samedi dernier, un nouvel incident est survenu mercredi dans le col de la Loze où le maillot jaune Jonas Vingegaard et d'autres coureurs ont été retardés par une moto bloquée par le public qui a causé un embouteillage. Celle de Thomas Voeckler , sélectionneur de l'équipe de France et consultant pour France Télévisions, a été exclu avec son pilote de l'étape de jeudi par les commissaires de l'Union cycliste internationale (UCI).

"On se fait déborder par un nouveau public qu'on n'attendait pas, a estimé Thierry Gouvenou. Cela doit être l'effet Netflix ou l'intensité du duel Pogacar-Vingegaard, mais on se retrouve un peu dépourvus. On avait des points durs avant comme l'Alpe d'Huez et le Ventoux. Mais là c'est partout, partout."

Et le directeur technique du Tour d'enchaîner: "Il va falloir qu'on se pose pour trouver des solutions [...] Il va falloir se remettre en cause."

171km - L'écart reste stable

Seulement 1'30" d'avance pour le trio, le peloton ne laisse pas filer afin de s'éviter une longue chasse.

179km- Plus d'une minute

Le trio creuse l'écart, sans vraiment forcer. Voilà une situation idéale pour Alpecin-Deceuninck et les autres équipes de sprinteurs.

182km - Une relance dans le peloton

La formation TotalEnergies tente de relancer dans le peloton mais Alpecin-Deceuninck contrôle pour Jasper Philipsen.

183km - 3 coureurs à l'avant

Victor Campenaerts (Lotto-Dstny) et Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno-X) rejoignent Kasper Asgreen. Le peloton fait rideau derrière, on devrait retrouver un trio à l'avant.

Départ réel

Après un départ fictif de 30 minutes, les coureurs sont lâchés pour 184 kilomètres. Kasper Asgreen, en l'absence de Fabio Jakobsen, attaque le premier.

Avant le départ de la 18e étape du Tour de France, Julien Jurdie a tenté d'analyser l'engouement renforcé autour de Tadej Pogacar suite à sa défaillance de mercredi. Le directeur sportif de l'équipe AG2R-Citroën l'a comparé avec Raymond Poulidor.

"Tadej Pogacar, il a un peu été à l’image de Poupou. C’est clair qu’il a cette facilité à avoir le sourire Pogi. Il est assez décontracté donc forcément cela plaît au public, a estimé le dirigeant de la formation française. On sait que le public français a toujours une petite attache particulière avec…le perdant ce serait un grand mot… Il y a toute la magie de Poupou qui a été faite depuis des années et des années avec toutes ses deuxièmes places. Effectivement je pense que le public français, notamment, a toujours un œil sur le deuxième. Et quand il est sympathique et toujours avec la banane, forcément la ferveur populaire est peut-être un peu plus importante pour le deuxième."

Et Julien Jurdie de préciser au sujet d'un Tadej Pogacar plus humain: "Une défaillance comme celle qu’il a eu mercredi sur les pentes du col de la Loze, cela rend humain. Et je pense que tout le monde sait que le vélo est un sport très difficile, que la défaillance peut arriver à tout moment et qu’elle se paye cher. Cela a été le cas pour Pogi mais effectivement cela le rend encore plus populaire."

Le Français Anthony Perez, membre de la formation Cofidis, quitte le Tour de France pour des "raisons personnelles".

Tadej Pogacar remercie Marc Soler

Tadej Pogacar s'est exprimé sur le podium signature avant la 18e étape: "C'était dur, je dois remercier mon équipe et en particulier Marc Soler, qui m'a emmené jusqu'à la ligné et a sauvé mon podium. Nous sommes toujours là, debout."

"L'intensité des contrôles antidopage est extrême", assure Oudéa-Castéra

Au micro de FranceInfo, la ministre des Sports Amélie Oudéa-Castéra a réagi aux suspicions qui entourent ce Tour de France: "J'ai plutôt entendu les coureurs dire que les performances étaient ahurissantes mais sans scepticisme ni défiance. Pogacar a un coup de moins bien, c'est plus difficile. Il y a eu cette performance dans le contre la montre incroyable de Vingegaard. Aujourd'hui, l'intensité des contrôles antidopage est extrême par une entité indépendante, l'ITA. Il y a depuis une semaine et a fortiori pour le maillot jaune, des contrôles qui sont extrêmement intenses, y compris pour Vingegaard et Pogacar. Il y a des contrôles urinaires, sanguins mais aussi des vélos aux rayons X pour vérifier qu'il n'y a pas d'éléments de mécanique ou de moteur. Tout est fait pour que la question du dopage reste très loin de nous. Christian Prudhomme m'a donné l'assurance de la qualité et l'intensité de ce dispositif antidopage, qui est irréprochable sur le Tour de France. Je ne vais pas préjuger des résultats."

Après un menu très copieux ce mercredi, la route va redevenir bien plus plate pour le peloton. Sur le papier, cette 18e étape semble plutôt promise aux sprinteurs, à moins qu'une échappée n'arrive à tirer son épingle du jeu.

Un Tour qui semble désormais plié. Après son gros coup dans le contre-la-montre, Jonas Vingegaard a pris un gros matelas d'avance de plus de sept minutes sur Tadej Pogacar , victime d'une terrible défaillance mercredi dans le col de la Loze.

Ce jeudi, de la plaine au programme: 184,9 km avec un profil voulu "le plus plat possible" par les organisateurs, pour permettre aux coureurs de récupérer des terribles épreuves dans les Alpes.

Etapestart: Torsdag d. 18. juli klokken 13.20

Er man ikke blandt de bedste bjergryttere i feltet, er 18. etape sidste chance for at lægge alt på ét bræt, inden årets Tour de France går ind i den absolutte finale.

Ligesom på 17. etape vil vi se en eksplosion af ryttere i forsøg på at frigøre sig fra feltet for at køre deres chance.

Favoritter:

At spå om hvem der har ben til at køre i udbrud er på forhånd svært, men etapen ligger til puncheurs som Ben Healy , Tobias Johannesen, Oier Lazkano og Michal Kwiatkowski .

Danske muligheder:

Har Magnus Cort kræfter til mere, efter sit lange udbrudsforsøg på 17. etape, har han gode chancer for at lave et resultat. Men han skal have diamanter i benene, for det bliver en hård etape langt inde i løbet, hvor mange ryttere allerede er godt brugte.

Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) a remporté, ce mercredi, la 1ʳᵉ étape du Tour de Luxembourg. Idéalement placé dans le final, le champion du monde s’est imposé au sprint au sommet du mur final. Il devance Christophe Laporte (Visma | Lease a Bike) et Andreas Kron (Lotto Dstny). 10 jours avant de remettre don titre de champion du monde en jeu, van der Poel lève les bras pour la quatrième fois de la saison, son premier succès depuis Paris-Roubaix .

Jenthe Biermans (Arkéa-Samsic) a remporté la 2ᵉ étape du Tour de Luxembourg devant Soren Kragh Andersen et Tim Van Dijke.
