Cleveland Tour Action Irons Review – Still Good And Forgiving For High Handicappers?

“The Cleveland Tour Action irons were made to resemble blades but provide the forgiveness of cavity back irons.”

There were a few different iterations of the Cleveland Tour Action irons but for this review, I tested the Cleveland Tour Action 7 irons. This is the latest, and some would argue, greatest version of the Tour Action irons.

With these irons, Cleveland was really trying to bridge the gap between game improvement and players performance. Did they succeed? Are the Cleveland Tour Action irons any good for high handicappers? Read on to find out.

Are Cleveland Tour Action Irons Still Good?

“The Cleveland Tour Action irons have a very unique feature that I don’t think I’ve seen in any other irons.”

At least, not in any irons I can remember. The feature I’m talking about is the “Micro Cavity.” There are about five little chambers bored into the back of the topline. The purpose of these tiny chambers is to lighten the top portion of the head so that the center of gravity is shifted downward.

This design also helps to move more weight to the perimeter of the head where it can provide more forgiveness. The Cleveland Tour Action irons also feature the Vibration Absorption Technology that Cleveland actually patented.

The Cleveland Tour Action irons are cavity backs with progressive offset. At address, you can see the cavity undercut jut out a bit behind the relatively thin top line. You’re not going to be fooled into thinking you’re playing blades but they do have a clean look for cavity backs.

The Cleveland Tour Action irons also have a healthy face depth. There is enough real estate up and down the face to eliminate your thin shots. However, I did have some issues with digging.

Overall though, the Cleveland Tour Action irons have a light, wieldy feel. I found myself falling into a groove with them relatively quickly.

Are the Cleveland Tour Action Irons Forgiving for High Handicappers?

“The best thing about the Cleveland Tour Action irons for high handicappers is that they have a big sweet spot.”

After just a few swings, I found the rhythm of these irons and was able to hit the expansive sweet spot consistently. The offset is generous in the long irons which didn’t look great to me; but it did provide excellent forgiveness.

The combination of the pronounced offset and the large sweet spot made the long irons in this set very easy to manage. And the long irons are notorious for giving neophyte players trouble so I would say that these irons are forgiving for high handicappers.

The large cavity back design helps to push mass towards the perimeter of the head. This stabilizes much of your common mis-hits.

The distance I was getting from these irons was a bit above average. With the 7-iron, I was averaging 158.7 yards. The dispersion was also reasonably tight when I stayed within the scoring lines.

And while the sweet spot is wide and hard to miss, if you do manage to miss it, don’t expect much forgiveness. On shots that missed the sweet spot, my ball was picking up a ton of spin and losing a lot of speed. As a result, my divergence widened and my carry distance dropped.

Cleveland Tour Action Vs Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Irons

“The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo’s are hybrid irons with a hollow body design.”

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo irons also come stock with counterbalanced shafts. The Launcher XL Halo irons are extremely forgiving but they offer no workability. Also, if you aren’t used to counterbalanced shafts, they may feel weird to you. I would only recommend the Cleveland Launcher XL Halo irons to pure beginners.

Cleveland Tour Action First Impressions

“I liked the fact that the Cleveland Tour Action irons did in fact offer a moderate degree of workability in a forgiving iron.”

They don’t really look like blades which is something I was expecting and hoping for. But I was able to work the ball left and right to a moderate degree. They aren’t massive irons. Instead, they have a moderate head size which strikes a really good balance between forgiveness and versatility.

The VAS is designed to smooth out those harsh vibrations when you miss the sweet spot. I had no problem with the feel of these irons. They felt smooth and consistent all across the face.

Micro Cavities

The small cavities bored behind the top line work to redistribute weight low in the club head. They also appear to be filled with some sort of polymer or urethane which may contribute to the smooth feel.

Deep Face Profile

The deep face profile makes it much more difficult to hit the ball thin. For me though, the same feature was causing me to dig more than usual on the fairway.

Cleveland Tour Action Loft & Lie

Who should buy the cleveland tour action irons.

“This was a tricky one to decide.”

First of all, I would say that Cleveland did in fact do a good job of making an iron that was at once forgiving and workable. The Cleveland Tour Action irons are inherently forgiving and it takes extreme mis-hits to affect their accuracy.

They can be point-and-shoot irons, and for more skilled players, they can be worked side-to-side a bit. So in the end, I suppose these irons would work for high and mid handicappers. Pretty much anyone in the 12-24 handicap range.

Distance: 96/100

Forgiveness: 96/100, workability: 96/100, overall performance: 96/100, value: 97/100.

Massive Attack, Idles, and Nile Rodgers to Play Super-Low Carbon UK Shows for New Climate Initiative

A weekend of music in Liverpool this autumn will test a series of proposals to radically decarbonize the events industry, with Massive Attack , Idles , and Nile Rodgers and Chic headlining. Announced as the United Nations names Liverpool its first Accelerator City for climate action, the Act 1.5 Presents series will cut audience transport emissions, as well as using a fully renewables-powered site, a plug-and-play stage setup to reduce gear transport, and zero landfill waste removal, all hosted at a meat-free M&S Bank Arena from November 28 to 30.

To combat emissions from fan transport—overwhelmingly the greatest hurdle to event decarbonization—the first block of tickets will be sold to Liverpool locals, with a fee added to grant buyers unlimited public-transport access on the day of the concert. (The shows end at 10 p.m., while transport networks are still running.) There will also be public transport incentives for those, in the second ticketing block, traveling from outside the city.

The series follows Massive Attack and Act 1.5’s trial of various climate initiatives at a massive day festival last month in their Bristol hometown. The event marked the first practical phase of Massive Attack’s longtime partnership with Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research. The research also includes plans to scale for and collaborate with smaller venues.

“Our recent Bristol show demonstrated beyond question that major live music events can be Paris 1.5 compatible,” Massive Attack’s Robert Del Naja said in a press release, referring to the Paris Agreement goal to prevent global heating beyond 1.5 degrees Celsius. “Audiences embrace change enthusiastically,” he said, and Liverpool’s UN Accelerator City status is a chance to test “more dynamic pilots and experiments to rapidly phase out fossil fuels. This idea and this insistence are not going back in any box. We’re delighted to see artists like Coldplay testing elements like localised ticket pre-sales as recommended in the Tyndall Centre Paris 1.5 decarbonisation road map and encourage other artists to do so freely. The talking stage is over, it’s time to act.”

Addressing the Massive Attack partnership and Liverpool’s UN climate action programme, Nile Rodgers added that Chic’s We Are Family Foundation has “been sounding the alarm and working in the climate change space for years, as have Massive Attack, and now it’s time for all of the music and film communities to get onboard. Yes, we’re going to have a party at Liverpool Arena, but we’re also going to act!”

U of I’s 2024 Homecoming celebration set for Sept. 28 to Oct. 5

MOSCOW, Idaho — Homecoming, University of Idaho’s longest-running tradition, returns Saturday, Sept. 28, through Saturday, Oct. 5. For one week each year, this unique event brings alumni, students and community members together in Moscow to celebrate with the whole Vandal Family.

This year’s Homecoming theme is “Where Vandal Dreams Come True.” Get ready for a magical time filled with your favorite characters, enchanting moments and unforgettable memories.

Jean’ne Shreeve, U of I distinguished professor of chemistry and the university’s longest-serving employee, will serve as the annual Homecoming Parade grand marshal.

U of I’s 2024 Homecoming celebration has a full week of events and festivities the whole family can enjoy. Signature events include:

• Oktoberfest Tap the Keg : 3:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at the Dan O’Brien Track and Field Complex.
• Serpentine: 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at the Vandal Golf Course.

In August, Massive Attack played a pioneering show in Bristol, England as part of their Act 1.5 programme. Held at Clifton Park in their home city, the show introduced an array of measures designed to reduce the environmental impact of live concerts, including encouraging the use of public transport, ring-fencing tickets for local residents and powering the show and festival site on 100% renewable energy and battery power.

Some of the measures include an earlier show time finish to accommodate the use of public transport back home, a meat-free arena and a “plug & play” technical set-up for the performers. The show will also be powered by 100% renewable energy.

A localised pre-sale for fans in the Liverpool area will begin at 12pm tomorrow (Sep 24) to encourage local attendees, with a general sale held on Friday (Sep 27). Find out more about tickets here .

The vast scope of work in Liverpool and UN recognition means we can now concentrate more dynamic pilots and experiments to rapidly phase out fossil fuels. This idea and this insistence are not going back in any box.

Earlier this month, Coldplay announced a run of shows in the U.K. for August 2025 that will be powered by solar, wind and kinetic energy, and also include a 10% donation to the Music Venues Trust to help support grassroots music scenes.

As a beginner I am enjoying golf immensely. If anyone is interested in buying a Cleveland Tour Action 10.5 Driver - light, brand new, still wrapped in plastic and a cover/sock - (pardon my ignorance) please contact me on 0407 746 662 in Melbourne Australia - the driver is a beauty but a little too advanced for me at this point!

Good club for a Great price. This club has a 260cc clubhead, titatium head, graphite shaft. For beginners I would recommend a loftier model, 9.5, 10 or 10.5. I need the matching 3-wood if anyone has it or has seen it to sell!!!

This is the lightest Driver I've ever had. The ball soars when you hit it in the sweet-spot. I got it used, for a great price. It has a great feel, exept for when you hit on the very toe or heal of the face, but it only stings a little. I would highly recomend this club to a golfer that's looking for more distance.

Club plays true to loft. Solid, boring trajectory. Shaft is on the soft side of indicated flex and you must not overswing. Excellent value for the money invested. I have had them in my bag for well over a year and haven't found anything worthy of replacing them.

purchased the club at a great discount from golfsmith. the feel is solid and the graphite shaft is very consistent. although it is very light, it doesn't feel as fragile as the callaway gbb. this is the reason why i am in the 80's and no longer in the 90's. low trajectory but jumps off the face quicker than others for longer drives. if you swing it properly, the ball always goes straight. not the most forgiving driver but poor swings still travel a good distance. absolutely love the sound of a good hit. the best value around, if still available at $100. if you give this club an honest try, there is now other driver that can match it's value and performance.

King Cobra Ti, Callaway GBB

Bought this club unexpectedly when I won an auction for $33!! I haven't used my King Cobra since. Added 20 yards and better control to my drives. Best golf investment I ever made.....worth much more. If you can find one for under $100, buy it!

These fairway woods are excellent. They are about 10 yards shorter than some other woods with similar lofts, but they are damn accurate, which more than makes up for distance lost. Every time I crush one perfectly square I find myself shouting "Oh Hell Yeah!" as I land on the green. Golfsmith is selling these for $69 as a closeout, can't beat that.

I didn't get a headcover with the club, I called Cleveland and they sent me one free.

Great club overall! The stiff shaft requires a little more effort, but hit on center has a great feel and tremendous ball flight! I NEED the 3 or 3+ wood! Can anyone help me find it online or a national retailer??

After reading some favorable reviews and especially after the recent price drop to $99.99, I just had to give this club a shot. In short, VERY impressive! The ball flight is medium to low as it jumps off the titanium face with some nice distance. I notice some definite vibration in the hands but that's not a bad thing. It relays the fact that you just crushed the ball! This driver is very forgiving also. I was not "on" while hitting it but still, my hits toward the toe curved nicely back to the target with an acceptable loss of distance. The only negative I can think about is how some people may perceive the vibration at impact. I for one, attribute it to a driver with some very unique feel in this day of muted impact and deadpan drives. Excellent club, check it out!

Massive Attack, IDLES and Nile Rodgers announce 2024 Liverpool shows for Act 1.5 “climate action accelerator”

Massive Attack , IDLES and Nile Rodgers will play a series of gigs at Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena in honour of the city being the world’s first ‘UN Accelerator City’ for climate change.

It comes on the heels of Massive Attack’s Act 1.5 show in Bristol last month which saw them joined by the likes of Killer Mike, Lankum, Sam Morton and the Wild Bunch’s DJ Milo. The all-day event aimed to re-envision how concerts could be staged sustainably, and was designed to be the lowest-carbon concert of its kind and scale ever put together.

Now, the band will host another string of gigs in Liverpool this November alongside IDLES and Rodgers. Speaking about the new shows, Massive Attack said: “Our recent Bristol show demonstrated beyond question that major live music events can be Paris 1.5 compatible, and that audiences will embrace change enthusiastically. The vast scope of work in Liverpool and UN recognition means we can now concentrate more dynamic pilots and experiments to rapidly phase out fossil fuels. This idea and this insistence are not going back in any box.

They also praised Coldplay for their efforts to decarbonise their shows and to “encourage other artists to do so freely,” concluding: “The talking stage is over, it’s time to act.”

Act 1.5 will arrive in Liverpool, where IDLES will play on November 28, Massive Attack on November 29, and Nile Rodgers closing out the lineup on November 30. Nile Rodgers has also said of the upcoming gig: “Some of the greatest CHIC shows have taken place in Liverpool so I’m thrilled that we are bringing our funk back to the city. We love the people and it’s always a night to remember. However, the circumstances this time are special, as we’re joining forces with our friends in Massive Attack to launch Liverpool’s UN climate action programme across music and film.

“Our We Are Family Foundation community of global youth changemakers have been sounding the alarm and working in the climate change space for years, as have Massive Attack, and now it’s time for all of the music and film communities to get onboard,” the statement continued. “Yes, we’re going to have a party at Liverpool Arena, but we’re also going to act!”

NME  went to the recent groundbreaking all-day event, where we gave our thoughts on whether the band pulled it off: “There is some truth in the idea that an iconic, veteran campaigning act like Massive Attack can make things (like bonus trains!) happen that other events might not so easily be able to pull off. And it’s true that a switched-on Bristol audience, fresh from electing a Green MP (who is also on-site and speaking on a panel), are likely to be receptive to a concept like this.

“But there have to be some first-movers who push the boundaries and bring everyone else along with them. Massive Attack and their event partners are the first ones to bring all of the pieces of the low-carbon puzzle together. This is what the live music of the future will need to look like everywhere in the end.”
