Tommy Tiernan: Tomfoolery
High theatricality, dirty words and comic rebellion from the beloved Irish comedian.
Jump to times or videos
Mick Perrin Worldwide
Tommy mixes a love of comic rebellion, the poetry of everyday speech and a deep grá for talking, with a refusal to be conscripted into a rational view of the world. Using high theatricality and lots of dirty words, this is a fast-paced, exuberant celebration of everything that's wild, wrong and wonderful about being alive right here, right now. By turns clever and really stupid. Be there! Tommy stars as Da Gerry in Derry Girls on Channel 4 and has performed all over the world as a stand-up comedian for the past 23 years.

Tommy Tiernan confirms 2 'unrehearsed' gigs in tiny West Cork venues
Cork & Limerick shows as Tommy tests new material
- 10:33, 1 FEB 2024
If you are a Cork-based fan of Tommy Tiernan - you've got the chance to see him in 2 very intimate settings as he's just announced a nationwide tour of smaller venues.
The comedian and chat-show host is back on out small screens every Saturday night, when he welcomes mystery guests and interviews them without any forward preparation or knowledge of who will be joining him.
But he first found major fame as a stand-up comedian - and it is to this world that he will be returning in March, when he goes on his 'Work In Progress' tour, taking in a range of small venues across the country.
It's Tommy trying out new material in front of a live audience for the first time, ahead of what is expected to be a large venue tour towards the end of this year.
So that means fans in West Cork and Limerick will get a chance to see the funny-man in a very up close and personal way as he does nights in two bars more famous for their live music - Connolly's of Leap and De Barras in Clon.
The Munster nights are:
- Connolly's Of Leap - 7th March
- De Barras, Clonakilty - 8th March
- Dolan's Wharehouse, Limerick - 26th & 27th March
The promoters say: "Get Ready for an unforgettable experience with Tommy Tiernan, join him for a series of “work in progress” gigs unrehearsed, unfinished and as always unpredictable around the country from March 7th- 30th.
"Tickets for these shows will be €28 on sale next Tuesday, Feb 6th at 10am through ticketmaster.ie and from local venue box offices."
The Cork venues in particular are set to sell out in a matter of minutes - so make sure to be ready to buy when the box office opens.

Dan Tiernan to embark on debut tour
Thursday 23rd November 2023, 12:07pm
- Stand-up show Dan Tiernan: Going Under will visit London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow between January and March 2024
BBC New Comedy Award winner Dan Tiernan will tour his stand-up show Going Under between January and March 2024 .
The tour's promoter says: "Following the success of his sold-out Fringe run, which had extra shows added due to phenomenal demand, and an Edinburgh Comedy Awards 2023 Best Newcomer nomination, comedian Dan Tiernan is set to embark on his debut UK tour with his critically-acclaimed hour Going Under from Wednesday 10th January 2024. This includes a run at London's Soho Theatre and a special one-off show at the iconic Leicester Square Theatre, as well as shows in Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Tickets are on sale now."
The blurb for the show is: "He's 27, gay and riddled with dyspraxia. Dan's had a big year, processing his younger sister's cancer diagnosis, quitting his job as a dinner lady, going full-time in comedy, and finally moving out of his parents' Manchester home. Yet despite this newfound independence (and freedom to smoke weed whenever he wants), he somehow still feels that he's going under. Exploring everything from being desperately single to competing with his successful stepsister, and asking the poignant questions: What would happen if a dog got high? How much military precision is needed to feed a rowdy group of Year 5's? And why has his tattoo-averse num suddenly had a change of heart? Expect a gag-heavy, high-energy debut hour from the UK's biggest rising star in comedy."

Tommy Tiernan Show recap: ‘Bionic’ writer shares tale of survival after London Tube fall
Sarah De Lagarde on The Tommy Tiernan Show
A woman who survived life-changing injuries on the London Underground and later was fitted with a bionic arm was among the guests on the first episode of the new season of The Tommy Tiernan Show on Saturday night.
Writer Sarah De Lagarde joined the comic to share her experience, recalling the day she slipped and fell onto the tracks, spending 15 minutes calling for help after being struck by two trains. “Eventually somebody heard me and called emergency services,” she said.
Her arm and leg were amputated and she quipped she was “80% human, 20% robot” after receiving her bionic arm and prosthetic leg.
De Lagarde had climbed Kilimanjaro just one month before her accident and said the change in her circumstances was stark.
“You stand on top of the world and then a month later, you find yourself hitting rock bottom, literally going from one extreme to the other. While I was lying on the tracks at that moment when I got angry, I said ‘I am not dying here. I just climbed Kilimanjaro, this is not happening.”
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Irish Examiner (@irish_examiner)
She also demonstrated how the arm works, showing the slight movement of her upper arm that can trigger certain actions. De Lagarde said electrodes inside it are “sensitive enough to feel slight twitches and movements of that remaining muscle. So I think about a movement, I twitch my muscles and the movement happens.”
It is also linked to a server and AI software which further identifies patterns to predict and refine her intended movements.
She said she has a new appreciation for life as a result of her injuries. “I'm cherishing every moment that I have now because I know in the blink of an eye things can change forever.”
Earlier on the show, comedian and actor Dylan Moran joined Tiernan and spoke about life on tour and why he needs to take occasional breaks from stand-up.
“At times you have to [take a break] because otherwise, who's talking? If you're always talking you never get to hear the sound of your own shut-upness,” he said, adding it is important to “observe yourself, take yourself less seriously and allow yourself to fall apart and reassemble a few times.”
Moran said he plays music to “slow down” and added he would like to move back to Ireland.
Finally, ornithologist Seán Roynane from Cork spoke about his “mission to record every bird in Ireland”.
Roynane said listening to birds was “a lifelong obsession” for him and said recording birdsong across the country has “been so magical”.
“There's so much information there for you, for us to tap into if we're willing to listen and willing to dig. It's just, it's astounding, honestly. Even now, after three years, I feel like I'm only scratching the surface of this.”
He shared some of his recordings with the show, including audio of hen harriers and hooper swans as well as a clip of a cod communicating underwater, saying marine recordings will likely be his next project.
