Senegal Population – 16,755,431 Language – French Currency – WA CFA Time Zone – GMT Capital – Dakar

Located on the most western point of Africa with its warm, colourful, diverse culture, intriguing history and welcoming locals collectively making Senegal the ideal location for a West African adventure.

This former French colony oozes the exotic as we walk the vibrant markets, narrow streets, and ancient slow-paced colonial towns to the backdrop of wonderful melodies of local musicians. Sandwiched between the rolling waves of the Atlantic and the encroaching sands of the Sahara Senegal offers exceptional experiences in culture, history wildlife and birding. Senegal gained independence from France on the 4th April 1960 and is made up of 20 ethnic groups with the largest population being Wolof followed by Fula, Serer and Mandinka almost all emphatically Muslim. Taking a city tour of Dakar to visit the museums, monuments and historical sites of interest along with a visit to learn the dark colonial past of the slave trade whilst touring Goree Island a UNESCO World heritage site makes for an interesting and emotional experience. Timing your visit to take in some of the fantastic music and art festivals in Dakar or heading off the beaten track venturing to the north on a cultural expedition, the options here are endless. If nature is your thing then you’re in luck as Senegal boasts some of the best birdwatching in this region, couple this with some excellent National Parks to explore, the only question is, do you have enough time to fit it all in.

Zoom in to see where your trip will take you in Senegal

Our tours of senegal operate year-round, however the dry season here in senegal is from november to april which is the most popular time to travel. travelling during the rainy season is fine and should not affect your trip, however some national parks will be closed during this period., discover senegal with ashanti african tours, our price promise, if you receive cheaper quotes from other legitimate companies, we will try to match or improve the price for the exact same tour package offered..

Senegal Heritage and Historical Tours

Dakar is a wonderful city to start our historical and heritage journey of discovery with excellent hotels, restaurants and a great buzz and vibe of the big city..

Heading out to discover the IFAN museum one of the oldest in West Africa for an important glimpse into this region’s history and taking an excursion to see one of the most important religious buildings in Senegal the Dakar Grande Mosque is intriguing to say the least. Goree Island off the coast of Dakar was one of the largest slave trading centres on the African coast from the 15th to 19th century. The contrast between the grim slave dungeons and the elegant colonial houses of the slave traders on the Island, today serve as a stark reminder and silent memorial of the human exploitation and suffering. Heading further afield to the former capital St Louis and its charming old colonial architecture, taking in some of the many festivals of art, music and heritage that include the world-famous St Louis Jazz Festival. There is just so much to do in Senegal and our tours can be customized to focus on additional areas of interest and venture to all corners of this wonderful land.

Senegal Cultural Tours

We hope you are ready to immerse yourselves into the rich, colourful, diverse cultures we encounter during our senegal cultural tours..

Local markets, ancient craft villages, city walking tours taking in the charming back streets and fading architecture of the colonial past in these exotic towns and cities. Heading out to the former capital St Louis past the Pink Lake to meet the Fulani people harvesting salt and experiencing the world famous Paris to Dakar Rally as we cross sand dunes in 4×4’s on our way to meet a traditional Wolof community. St Louis itself is possibly Senegal’s most charming town, we continue to the Holy city of Touba and meet the Mourid community to see their beautiful Mosque that seems to rise from the desert as we approach. Kaolack is a must visit and its local markets a great place to buy traditional fabrics and if you enjoy nature then a ride along the Saloum River enjoying the amazing birdlife is an amazing excursion. Crossing the Saloum Delta to Joal Fadiouth the hometown of Senegal’s first President Leopold Sedard Sedar a wonderful indigenous community adds a bit of history to our cultural adventure. Our tours can be customized to incorporate additional areas of interest and to visit all locations here in Senegal.

Travel tips for senegal, senegal visas.

If you are European citizen or from the following countries UK, US, Brazil, Canada, India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Vatican City and most (not all) African nationals then you do not require a visa to enter Senegal, however you need to return home within 90 days of arrival and have a valid return ticket when entering Senegal.

For information and links to all Senegal Embassies, Consulates and High Commissions for visa applications and other services please follow this link – www.embassies.info/senegal

In the unlikely event there is no Senegal Embassy or consulate in your home country to enable you to obtain a visa, please check – www.ivisa.com – to see if your country qualifies for an e-visa if your country does not qualify then it may be possible to obtain a visa at the airport and borders of Senegal, please check this before booking your holiday and be aware this method will be more expensive.

The majority of our standard scheduled and customized tours are all-inclusive, so you only need to budget for the following: snacks, soft (not mineral water as this is always included) and alcoholic drinks and items of a personal nature. If you have booked a budget tour, then some aspects of the tour may not be included in the tour price and you will receive this information during your enquiry process.

Building schools, protecting rainforest, having a sustainable positive impact locally

Ashanti would like to think most international travellers coming to West Africa care about the locations they visit and about having a positive impact during their time here. Booking with a responsible travel company goes a long way to achieving this. Many companies state they benefit locals and conservation when they do extraordinarily little and are more focused on their profit margins. Ashanti are West Africa’s leading travel company putting their profits back into building schools, protecting wildlife, rainforest, biodiversity and connecting communities to the conservation of their environment through community development initiatives connected to eco-tourism. Click to learn more about where our profits go.

Responsible Tourism

When you travel with Ashanti African Tours you can be assured that all trips are ethical and sustainable, as we put the environment and the communities at the heart of all that we do. As such, this policy draws on the criteria set out by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and tries to recognise many of the principles within the United Nations World Tourism Organisation’s (UNWTO) Global Code of Ethics for Tourism. All Ashanti African Tours trips aim to have a positive impact on the countries, communities, and environments we visit. Our policy of operating low-impact, ethical tours allows us to create authentic, cultural connections, which not only enhances the traveller experience, but also creates economic opportunity and social development, whilst preserving local cultures for future generations. For full detailed information on our company responsible travel policy please visit the Ethical Travel page of our website.

We Offset Your Trips Carbon Footprint

We plant 3 indigenous forest tree species for every person that travels with us. The main aim for this project is carbon offsetting – guests choosing to travel with us would offset their flights to/from West Africa by more than 15 times if the trees live to their expected lifespan. This is based on projected carbon dioxide generated on a return flight for the average guest (approximately 900kg/1980 lbs). The average tropical tree can absorb approximately 48lbs of carbon per year (when mature) and in West Africa it takes 30-50 years for a tropical tree species to grow to maturity, with an average life expectancy of 200-300 years. If the trees we plant for each guest are continued to be protected, then we are confident that we will be making a big difference in carbon offsetting: 3 trees planted would each absorb approximately 10,080 lbs of carbon, totalling 30,240 lbs/13,745 kg for all 3 trees (per guest).

Senegal Attractions & Landmarks Guide

Bordering the Atlantic Ocean in far West Africa, Senegal is a former French colony whose capital, Dakar, resembles a mini-Paris with its wide leafy boulevards and outdoor cafes. But it’s very much an African country, where busy markets, sandy beaches and history – not wild animals – are the main attractions.

In regards to history, Senegal has a mixed past. Some tour take time to visit places such as Dakar, the island of Gorée, which is a former slaving post. Dakar and other main locations in Senegal are a sobering reminder of the past here. Cities like Saint-Louis show some of the brighter sides of colonialism, particularly the beautiful colonial architecture which still prevails.

Senegal, the westernmost nation of Africa, is a stable and diverse country. Visitors to this African jewel enjoy nightlife, relax on magnificent beaches, witness rich biodiversity and much more. Dakar, Senegal’s capital, is the bustling city with attractive beaches in its vicinity. On a trip to the country, you can find mountains with natural beauties, rainforests and mangrove forests, which allow you to take part in activities in nature. Finally, you can enjoy many cultural events and festivals here and visit great museums.

Tour Highlights

  • Go to multicultural Dakar to enjoy vibrant shopping and rich nightlife. Examine the Great Mosque with its soaring minarets and visit the Museum of African Arts.
  • Visit Gorée Island near Dakar, a former slave trading post. Take in a slice of history by visiting the House of Slaves (Maison des Esclaves) museum and its ‘Door of No Return’.
  • Discover colonial past and architecture of Saint Louis. In April, come to attend the popular Saint Louis Jazz Festival.

Travel Tips

  • Street crime, including bag snatching by motorcycle riders, is the biggest threat to tourists in Dakar. Don’t walk alone at night and keep valuables out of sight when holidaying in Senegal.
  • French is the official language in Senegal, and is spoken fluently. Few people understand English.
  • You can find ATMs in banks in larger cities. Credit cards are rarely accepted. You won’t have trouble to convert USD and Euros to local currency.
  • Reliable internet is available at internet cafes in major cities.

Day 1 As you exit the airport in Dakar, you will be greeted with a smile by a member of the Uprise team, who will take you to a quiet hotel in the city. Depending on your arrival time, you will have a short orientation session, have your first Senegalese meal, or head straight to bed. Tomorrow is your first full day in Senegal!

Day 2 Today you will explore Dakar, a city with a long and fascinating history. This morning you will board the ferry to Goree Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its complicated colonial history, as well as its prominent role in the transatlantic slave trade. While touring the island you will have the chance to stand in the Door of No Return, the last place captive slaves stood before entering ships bound for the Americas. Later this afternoon, we will return to the mainland of Dakar to visit the Medina Market and the Grand Mosque of Dakar.

Day 3 This morning you will make some brief stops around Dakar, including the African Renaissance Monument and the Presidential Palace. You will then make your way north to Lompoul, situated roughly halfway between Dakar and Saint Louis. The dunes of the Lompoul Desert will remind you of your proximity to the Sahara. Today you will have a range of activities available, including camel rides, ATV tours, and sandboarding on the dunes. Tonight’s accommodation, The Lompoul Ecolodge, is known for its comfortable Bedouin-style tents, complete with a bed, sink, shower and toilet. After observing the bright stars over the desert, you will turn in for the evening.

Day 4 This morning you will make your way north to Saint Louis. This historic city is situated on an island at the mouth of the Senegal River, and was the prized capital of the French colony. Known for its colorful colonial architecture and its annual jazz festival, Saint Louis is also known for its large fishing village and nearby beaches. The city is best explored by horse and carriage, which is exactly what you will do after settling into your hotel. Your local guide will explain the fascinating history of the city as you wander the streets in the open air. Depending on the season, you may also visit the UNESCO World Heritage Djoudl National Birds Sanctuary.

Day 5 You will spend the first half of today driving south, to the northern edges of the Sine Saloum Delta. This area is an ideal launching point for birdwatching tours in the Sine Saloum Delta. After arriving at your hotel, you will have time to relax and enjoy and the scenery in the delta. Tomorrow you will begin exploring!

Day 6 This morning you will take a half-day boat tour in the Sine Saloum Delta. This is a unique opportunity to see a wide range of bird species including flamingo if you are lucky. After searching for birds, you will stop on a small village on nearby island to learn about its history and culture. This afternoon, you will visit the shell island of Joal-Fadiouth. This unique man-made village is made entirely of shells, and is connected to land by a long footbridge. This majority Christian community is notable for its mixed-religion cemetery.

Day 7 This morning you will depart your hotel on the Sine Saloum Delta and take a short drive north the Petit Cote, a strip of Senegal’s coastline that is known for its palm-lined beachside resorts. In the remaining days of your trip, you will have time to explore the tourist offerings of this region. You will be free to spend as much time as you like at the beach, but you may visit the Mbor Market for another chance to observe typical life in Senegal.

Day 8 This morning you will pack your bags for one final adventure in Senegal. Bandia Reserve is a small conservation area known for its indigenous and imported wildlife. Your guided jeep safari will allow you to see a range of species, including zebra, buffalo, giraffe, rhinoceros, roan antelopes, pata monkeys, vervet monkeys, crocodiles, and more. After waving goodbye to the animals you will set out for Dakar, the airport, and wherever your final destination may be!

The Uprise team is happy to assist you with your luggage, but feel free to pack light and keep it simple!

  • We highly recommend that you speak with your doctor about about antimalarial medications or any vaccinations that he or she may suggest.
  • If your trip includes a safari, please include darker, more neutral-colored clothing in order to avoid scaring off the animals.
  • Also, please consider culturally appropriate dress. While many cities and beaches in West Africa are more liberal with their dress codes, many people will be offended if you show too much skin. In some communities women should cover their shoulders and knees. Consider packing capri pants, loose-fitting long-sleeved shirts, or scarves to cover your shoulders.

In your hand-luggage:

  • Photocopy of your passport
  • Visa for Ghana/Togo/Benin (if applicable)
  • Yellow fever vaccination card
  • Wallet and money
  • Waterbottle
  • Medications
  • Books/games

In your checked luggage:

  • Bathing suits
  • Long-sleeved shirt
  • Sneakers/hiking shoes
  • Flashlight or headlamp
  • Shampoo/conditioner
  • Soap/facewash
  • Shaving cream

EU adopts 14th package of sanctions against Russia for its continued illegal war against Ukraine, strengthening enforcement and anti-circumvention measures

senegal tourism packages

The Commission welcomes the Council's adoption of a 14th package of sanctions against Russia. The new package responds to the needs and findings on the ground, and tackles enforcement issues. As the Russian aggression against Ukraine continues, the EU remains determined to keep acting to further reduce Russia's sources of revenue and capacity to wage war. Today's measures send a clear and strong signal of EU unity and of our support to Ukraine and its people.

The package contains important new energy-related measures targeting liquified natural gas (LNG), and measures targeting vessels which support Russia's war. As regards LNG, the package prohibits all future investments in, and exports to, LNG projects under construction in Russia. It will also prohibit, after a transition period of 9 months, the use of EU ports for the transshipment of Russian LNG. Moreover, the package prohibits the import of Russian LNG into specific terminals which are not connected to the EU gas pipeline network.

For the first time, the EU has adopted a measure targeting specific vessels contributing to Russia's warfare against Ukraine, which are subject to a port access ban and ban on provision of services. These vessels can be designated for a broad array of reasons such as their support through the transport of military equipment for Russia, the transport of stolen Ukrainian grain and support in the development of Russia's energy sector, for instance through the transport of LNG components or transshipments of LNG. This measure also targets tankers part of Putin's dark fleet which circumvent the EU and Price Cap Coalition's caps, while adopting deceptive shipping practices in complete disregard of international standards. In this first round of listings, the EU has placed 27 vessels on this list. This list can be updated as regularly as needed to address the ever-evolving involvement of those vessels helping Russia to wage war against Ukraine.

Moreover, the package introduces new listings targeting individuals and entities responsible for actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. A total of 116 additional listings of 69 individuals and 47 entities are subject to asset freezes, and – in the case of individuals – also to travel bans.

Today's package significantly strengthens our financial sanctions by introducing a ban for EU banks outside Russia to use the financial messaging system SPFS, which is the Russian equivalent of SWIFT. It also allows the Council to draw up a list of non-Russian third country banks connected to such system; those banks will be banned from doing business with EU operators. Last, it introduces a ban on transactions with banks and crypto assets providers, in Russia and third countries, that facilitate transactions supporting Russia's defence-industrial base. These new sanctions will curb the ability of the Kremlin to channel funds to finance its war machine.

One of the key objectives remains to continue limiting Russian revenues, and to reinforce export restrictions on industrial goods and advanced technology. The package restricts export of nine additional dual-use and advanced technology items (e.g. microwave and aerial amplifiers, flight data recorders and All-Terrain Vehicles) and extends the export bans on certain types of industrial products chemical, plastics, vehicle parts and machinery goods (EUR 5 billion of EU exports prior to the invasion, in 2021). In addition, the export as well as the transfer of manganese ore are now prohibited.

The package also imposes stricter restrictions for the export of dual-use and advanced technology items to 61 entities – established in Russia (28) and in third countries (33) – which are directly or indirectly associated to Russia's military complex and thus contribute to supporting the Russia's war of aggression. In addition, the package also extends the import ban to helium which generates significant revenues for Russia.

As Russia is constantly looking for ways to circumvent sanctions, the EU has reassessed and adjusted its strategies. To further limit Russia's ability to access restricted goods and technology, this package contains several measures meant to boost private sector compliance, support enforcement by national competent authorities, and hamper sanctions circumvention, including by keeping in check the foreign subsidiaries of EU operators.

It moreover includes specific initiatives to protect EU operators from expropriation and to respond to other illegitimate actions of the Russian state, including the theft of intellectual property.

The package also finetunes the import ban on Russian diamonds already agreed in the 12 th sanctions package. It clarifies that the ban does not apply to diamonds that were located in the EU or in a third country (other than Russia), or were polished or manufactured in a third country, before the ban on Russian diamonds entered into force (so-called ‘grandfathering'). It also allows temporary imports or exports of jewellery, for example for trade fairs or repairs. Furthermore, the package prolongs by six months (until 1 March 2025) the sunrise period after which the full-traceability scheme for imports of rough and polished natural diamonds will become mandatory. In addition, it postpones the ban on jewellery incorporating Russian diamonds processed in third countries other than Russia until the Council decides to activate the ban in the light of action taken within the G7 to pursue that measure.

Furthermore, the new package includes measures that protect our democratic processes and combat Russian interference, such as prohibiting political parties from receiving funding from the Russian state. It also includes measures strengthening existing transport restrictions, and in particular the flight ban and the road transport prohibition.

A complete overview of the package is available in our Q&A .

The EU stands firmly with Ukraine and its people, and will continue to strongly support Ukraine's economy, society, armed forces, and future reconstruction. EU sanctions are at the core of the EU's response to Russia's unjustified military aggression against Ukraine, as they degrade Russia's military and technological capability, cut the country from the most developed global markets, deprive the Kremlin from the revenues it is financing the war with, and impose ever higher costs on Russia's economy. In this respect, sanctions contribute to fulfilling the EU's key objective, which is to continue to work for a just and lasting peace, not another frozen conflict. Their effects grow over time as the sanctions erode Russia's industrial and tech base. The EU also continues to ensure that its sanctions do not impact energy and agrifood exports from Russia to third countries. As guardian of the EU Treaties, the European Commission monitors the enforcement of EU sanctions by EU Member States.

Anomalous, growing trade figures for some specific products/countries are hard evidence that Russia is actively attempting to circumvent sanctions. This calls for us to redouble our efforts in tackling circumvention and to ask our neighbours for even closer cooperation. EU Sanctions Envoy David O'Sullivan continues his outreach to key third countries to combat circumvention. The first tangible results are already visible. Systems are being put in place in some countries for monitoring, controlling, and blocking re-exports. Working with like-minded partners, we have also agreed a list of Common High Priority sanctioned goods to which businesses should apply particular due diligence and which third countries must not re-export to Russia. In addition, within the EU, we have also drawn up a list of sanctioned goods that are economically critical and on which businesses and third countries should be particularly vigilant.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Julia Roberts was allegedly gushing over Travis Kelce’s relationship with Taylor Swift during the now-viral “handsy” video from the singer’s Dublin stop on the Eras Tour over the weekend.

“Squid Game: The Challenge” alum Jackie Gonzalez, who is deaf, deciphered the intimate conversation between the “Pretty Woman” actress and Kansas City Chiefs star, which showed Roberts scratching his chest and rubbing his shoulders.

“I’m so unusually happy for you guys, and I don’t mean to make you nervous, but it makes me so happy,” Roberts allegedly said, according to Gonzalez, who posted a video of the encounter on Instagram Tuesday.

The video of the Oscar winner, 56, and Kelce, 34, in the VIP tent of Aviva Stadium in Ireland went viral as Swifties slammed Roberts for getting touchy-feely .

“Why is she scratching his chest and pushing herself into him?? he is so uncomfortable trying to push her off and she holds him up. this is uber strange,” one person wrote on X.

The clip even caught the attention of comedian Nikki Glaser’s parents as they slammed the interaction as “gross” before later apologizing .

Meanwhile, supporters assumed it was a mutual interaction as Kelce was also rubbing Roberts’ arm.

“Please. Travis is not uncomfortable. Julia is clearly gushing over TNT [Taylor and Travis]. She has a great sense of humor so she’s probably joking around with him,” another fan chimed in.

Despite fan assumptions, Kelce seemingly enjoyed his chat with Roberts as he gushed over meeting the “awesome” actress during his “New Heights” podcast Wednesday.

“I met Julia Roberts in Ireland, in Dublin,” he said. “That was pretty cool.”

The tight end might still be in Europe with Swift, 34, as she prepares to hit the stage in Amsterdam. He doesn’t have to return to the US until Chiefs training camp begins on July 21.

Kelce — who recently made his on-stage debut at the Grammy winner’s tour stop in London last month — also teased more cameo appearances .

At this stage we don't have any organised trips to Senegal.

Hemmed in by the ever-encroaching sands of the Sahel, the waves of the Atlantic and the dense jungle of the Casamance, Senegal often seems to work a beat and rhythm all on its own. Culture is rich and traditions are strong, yet this is also a nation of novelty. The melodies of home-grown international music maestros are played alongside the latest local hip-hop sensations, and first-rate baguettes are hawked from the back of horse-drawn carts.

Best time to visit senegal.

With an average coastal temperature of 27 degrees Celsius, Senegal’s dry season - running from November to March - is the best time to visit. Things get hotter and dustier the further inland one ventures, due to the harmattan winds that blow in from the Sahara. From June to October is the rainy season, when temperatures rise above 30 and intermittent downpours (though usually lasting no more than a few hours and falling mainly at night) make for some extreme humidity. Although this is the time when the country is at its most green and beautiful, some national parks do close or become inaccessible.

Geography and environment

Save for the southeast Fouta Djallon foothills and the Bambouk Mountains on the Malian border, little of Senegal rises more than 100m above sea level. The north of the country consists mostly of sparsely vegetated savannah woodland and coastal dunes, while south of The Gambia the land turns to dense jungle, winding river systems and mangrove estuaries.

Senegal festivals and events

1. st. louis jazz festival.

Every May, internationally-renowned jazz legends and emerging artists arrive on mass for a weekend of thumping good times in what's arguably Senegal’s most charming town. Started in 1993, the festival is the biggest jazz celebration on the continent and has played host to the likes of Herbie Hancock, Randy Weston and Joe Zainul.

2. Gorée Diaspora Festival

Created with the ambition of promoting links between Senegal and the descendants of slaves exported from Gorée Island, this eclectic festival features traditional and modern musical concerts, conferences and debates, art and craft exhibitions, dance performances and the odd traditional wrestling bout thrown in for good measure.

3. Kaay Fecc

This lively Dakar dance festival, held between late May and early June every two years, is a vivacious celebration of African choreographic expression, entertainment and education. Aiming at the sustainable propagation of dance throughout the continent, the event attracts dance enthusiasts from around the globe keen to partake in the smorgasbord of workshops, performances and dance classes on offer.

4. Abéné Festivalo

Held annually over the New Year period in the Casamance community of Abéné, this 10-day drumming festival celebrates Casamance culture primarily through djembe and percussion performances but also features nightly dance recitals and traditional Senegalese wrestling displays.

5. Dak’Art Biennale

The cleverly named Dak’Art Biennale has served as a platform for promoting contemporary art with African cultural roots since 1992. Held every even-numbered year in May, the festival showcases works by established and emerging African artists in galleries and venues across the capital.

Responsible travel tips for senegal.

1. Be considerate of Senegal’s customs, traditions, religions and culture.

2. Only use your right hand when dealing with locals. The left is used for ‘unhygienic tasks’.

3. Learn some local language and don't be afraid to use it - simple greetings will help break the ice.

4. Dress modestly and respectfully. Shoulders to knees should be covered and shoes removed when entering places of worship.

5. For environmental reasons, try to avoid buying bottled water. Fill a reusable water bottle or canteen with filtered water or use water purification tablets.

6. Always dispose of litter thoughtfully, including cigarette butts.

7. Shop for locally made products. Supporting local artisans helps keep traditional crafts alive and supports the local community.

8. When bargaining, stay calm, be reasonable and keep a smile on your face. It's meant to be fun!

9. Refrain from supporting businesses that exploit or abuse endangered animals.

10. Please ask and receive permission before taking photos of people, including children.

11. When on community visits or homestays, refrain from giving gifts or money to locals.

Is tipping customary in Senegal?

Tipping is only expected from well-heeled locals and foreigners. At established restaurants a 10 to 15 percent service charge is usually included in the bill; where it’s not, 10 percent is the acceptable gratuity. Although tipping at other eateries isn't mandatory, a rounding up of the bill will be much appreciated given the low wages that Senegalese workers are typically paid. Setting aside a small amount for porters, guides and drivers is also a good idea.

What is the internet access like in Senegal?

Internet cafes, with relatively fast and reliable connections, can easily be found in Senegal’s cities and major towns.

Can I use my mobile phone while in Senegal?

Mobile phone coverage is good in Senegal’s large cities and towns, but less so in rural areas. The major local telephone companies are Alize, Sentel, Orange and Tigo. Ensure that you have global roaming activated before leaving home if you plan to use your mobile phone.

What are the toilets like in Senegal?

Squat/pit toilets are generally the standard in Senegal, although western-style flushable toilets are often found in large hotels and other modern buildings. Carry your own supply of soap and toilet paper because this is rarely provided.

What will it cost for a...?

  • Sandwich = 1000 CFA
  • Litre of bottled water = 700 CFA
  • Shwarma = 1500-5000 CFA
  • Bottle of beer in a local bar = 500-1000 CFA

Can I drink the water in Senegal?

Tap water isn't safe to drink in Senegal. For environmental reasons, try to avoid buying bottled water. Instead, bring water purification tablets or ask your leader where filtered water can be found.

Credit cards are generally only accepted at top-end hotels, some restaurants and a few shops. American Express is the most widely accepted, followed by Visa, Diners Club and Mastercard.

What is ATM access like in Senegal?

Banks with ATMs are found in all cities and large towns across the country, but are rarer in small towns, rural areas and villages. Not all ATMs will accept foreign cards or be in working order, so be sure to have other payment methods available when venturing out of the cities.

Absolutely. All passengers travelling with Intrepid are required to purchase travel insurance before the start of their trip. Your travel insurance details will be recorded by your leader on the first day of the trip. Trip.com Boosts Travel Experiences with Prioticket Deal

Jesse Chase-Lubitz , Skift

July 2nd, 2024 at 1:01 PM EDT

Trip.com recently expanded attractions as a bookable category for travelers worldwide. Its partnership with Prioticket highlights the increasing trend of B2B partnerships in the experiences category.

Jesse Chase-Lubitz

Online travel conglomerate Trip.com Group is expanding its global reach in a deal with the booking system Prioticket .

Trip.com, the international brand of China’s largest online travel conglomerate, will now have access to all of Prioticket’s products. The deal will help Trip.com expand its reach in Europe, the U.S., and the Middle East. It comes as Trip.com’s homepage now advertises “attractions” as a “new” product offering.

Prioticket is particularly focused on Dubai, Abu Dhabi, London and New York, according to Prioticket CEO, Gert-Jan Ruiter.

“Experiences is one of the most opportunistic and untapped markets in travel today,” said Pranavi Agarwal, a senior analyst for Skift Research who wrote a 2023 Skift Research report on the tours, activities, and experiences market.

Significant deal for Trip.com

Trip.com and Prioticket have been connected for years, with Prioticket largely integrating into Trip.com’s platform. Now, Trip.com is looking West by integrating into Prioticket’s inventory and booking system.

“It made sense to optimize this and become direct partners,” said Ruiter.

Trip.com will now have access to inventory that includes hop-on hop-off bus tours from City Sightseeing Worldwide, tours at the Museum of the Future and the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, and Harry Potter Studio Tours in the UK. Trip.com will also be able to access Priotricket’s partners and more than 50 other reservation systems.

Broader industry trend

Trip.com’s partnership is one of many B2B deals emerging in the experiences industry, which experts say is part of the rise in the popularity of experiences. The trend may help lower the barrier to entry for niche online aggregators.

The move did not shock experts as experiences continue to skyrocket in value. Several B2B partnerships have emerged in the last several years.

Large online travel agencies like Booking and Expedia have established partnerships with TUI Musement and Viator, respectively.

Ruiter added that Expedia also uses Prioticket for experiences.

Agarwal said that B2B partnerships are reducing the barrier to entry because they allow online aggregators to increase sales with existing inventory from partners.

She added that experiences are becoming an increasingly important driver for where consumers choose to travel, making it an essential part of the product offering for large online travel agencies.

However, experiences remain a small revenue source for the largest travel players. The category counts for only a few percentage points of gross bookings.

“It is simply not a core area of focus for major OTAs,” Agarwal said.
