Located in bustling Downtown Brooklyn, NYU’s Downtown Brooklyn campus sits around the tree-filled Brooklyn Commons.  Home to our Tandon School of Engineering as well as several programs within the Tisch School of the Arts and the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development our students thrive in the Brooklyn Tech Triangle, the heart of New York City’s growing tech scene.

Jacobs Academic Building

6 MetroTech Center, Brooklyn, NY 11201, USA

The Jacobs Academic Building is the main academic building for the Tandon School of Engineering students. With a plethora of classrooms, lecture halls, and research labs, Jacobs is also home to the Polytechnic Tutoring Center (PTC) on the 3rd floor, which is accessible to all students for review sessions, test prep and more. This academic building allows Tandon’s students to fully engage in the curriculum, based on both a well-rounded liberal arts background as well as hands-on experiential learning.

The MakerSpace is a start of the art lab designed for hands-on creation! It fosters an environment where students feel comfortable bringing their original ideas to life. Through programming in the DesignLab, students have access to mentors and other professional development opportunities.

Othmer Residence Hall

Othmer Hall is one of two residence hall options for students living in Brooklyn. All Tandon School of Engineering who live on campus during their freshman year will live in one of these two halls. Traditional style rooms and apartment style rooms are available for students.

Dibner Library of Science and Technology

5 MetroTech Center, Brooklyn, NY, USA

The Bern Dibner Library of Science & Technology, more affectionately known as Dibner, is part of NYU’s 11-library system, and also houses the Game Innovation Lab. Dibner’s resources have largely been converted into electronic format, allowing for more physical study space within the library - despite the 5.9 million volumes available. NYU partners with other colleges and libraries to use their resources, many of which can be ordered online and delivered to one of the main libraries

Wunsch Building

311 Bridge Street, Brooklyn, NY, USA

The Wunsch Building is a historic landmark having served as the First Congregational Church and an important stop on the Underground Railroad. The building is now home to the undergraduate admissions and Wasserman Center for Career Development offices at our Downtown Brooklyn Campus. Located in Metrotech Center, students are able to get connected to some of New York City’s largest companies including JP Morgan, Verizon, and the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets, all of which have offices steps away.

Brooklyn Commons

The center of our Brooklyn campus is the Brooklyn Commons. This space is home to some of New York City’s leading technology companies, as well as some of the leading companies in safety, culture and finance. NYU students use this space to eat lunch, study and attend the variety of events offered here.

The Media and Games Network (MAGNET) brings together students and staff from schools across NYU, including Tandon, Tisch, Steinhardt, and the College of Arts and Science. This multidisciplinary space has classrooms, lab space, a black box theater, an audio studio and mixing booth, and other shared spaces for students. The carefully designed shared spaces encourage integration of curriculum and collaboration.

370 Jay Street

370 Jay Street, Jay Street, Brooklyn, NY, USA

370 Jay Street, formerly known as the Transportation Building or Transit Building, is located at the northwest corner of Jay Street and Willoughby Street within the MetroTech Center complex in Downtown Brooklyn. NYU is working with the city of New York to transform the long-empty 370 Jay Street building into an innovation hub for engineering, applied science, urban science, digital technology, and digital media arts. Currently, students from Tandon, Tisch, and Steinhardt utilize labs, classrooms, and tech resources at 370 Jay, with plans to expand for even more program offerings.

Taylor Swift's VMAs 2024 outfit stole the show at New York's UBS Arena, where she was the most-nominated artist thanks to her video for “Fortnight” from The Tortured Poets Department .

The pop star hit the red carpet in a corseted plaid Christian Dior ensemble complete with leather, elbow-length gloves, hot pants, and a matching plaid collar. She accessorized with yet another pair of thigh-high boots , and kept to a classic glam, including a red lip and smokey eye.

As for the accessories, she probably didn't shell out. Sarah Chapelle, the creator and operator of @TaylorSwiftStyled and author of Taylor Swift Style: Fashion Through the Eras , which hits shelves this October, told Glamour , “Based on my knowledge of the industry and how it typically works, I assume that most of her red-carpet jewelry are loans. I also assume that many of her outings are styled with smatterings of personal pieces that she herself has acquired.”

Wanna dress like off-duty Taylor ? Of course we have a guide for that. And another for what she wears during tour rehearsal. (Taylor Swift's VMAs 2024 outfit, being from Dior and all, might be a little harder to attain.)

At last year's VMAs, Swift wore a Reputation -coded black Versace dress that was a total misdirect; twelve months later, Rep TV still hasn't been announced . So, as to what the above means…well, we know she's making moves…and is it possible that her endorsement of Kamala Harris the night before the VMAs (which was also the night of the first Harris-Trump presidential debate) was also laying the groundwork for the re-recorded album's release? One thing about Taylor “Childless Cat Lady” Swift is we have no idea what she's up to, really. She's playing 3-D chess, we barely understand checkers.

About the DPI Facilities

The facilities at the Department of Photography & Imaging include three digital imaging labs equipped with MacOS computers and the latest Adobe software. Print and scan media include Epson 17" and 44" high quality inkjet printers, a variety of Epson archival flatbed scanners, and Hasselblad-Imacon virtual drum scanners. Analog practice centers around two large traditional black and white darkrooms. We also maintain a 19th century techniques darkroom, three photography studios, and a print finishing area that includes equipment for drying, mounting, matting, and framing photographs.

Our inventory of photographic equipment includes over 120 cameras ranging from 35mm to 8x10 large format film cameras, small and medium format digital cameras, digital video cameras, multiple varieties of both continuous light sources and electronic flash for location and studio work, grip equipment, and sound recording equipment.

The DPI Galleries

The 8th Floor Gallery (left) is one of two exhibition spaces located within the Department of Photography & Imaging. The second is the Gulf + Western Gallery, in the lobby of the Tisch building at 721 Broadway.

The DPI Library

The mission of the Department of Photography & Imaging Library is to provide primary source materials, photography subject books, exhibition catalogs, and offer access to resources focusing on the history of photography, art theory, critical studies, new media studies, art history, art journals, contemporary art and selected photography biographies and other community based projects looking at social practice. It is also a place where students, alumni and faculty view videos, complete assignments and scan materials related to their assignments and their own art works.

Equipment rental information.

The DPI Equipment Hub has a wide variety of equipment available for student usage. Please see the Hub Gear Guide (above) for a listing of the most commonly used items.

• Video and audio recording equipment
• Lighting equipment for studio and location use
• Accessories such as tripods, reflectors, cords, etc

Note: Some items require a tech-out (training session) with a member of the technical staff.

Who is eligible to rent equipment?

Photography & Imaging majors have access to all equipment. 

Students enrolled in a Photography & Imaging studio production course who have paid the lab fee have access to equipment relevant to their class. Advanced equipment requires instructor permission and a tech-out. 

If you are not a photo major and are not enrolled in a DPI course this semester, you are not eligible to borrow equipment.

Photography & Imaging majors have access to all lab facilities. 

Students enrolled in a Photography & Imaging studio/production course who have paid the lab fee also have access to lab facilities relevant to their class. 

If you are not a Photo major and are not enrolled in a DPI course during the current semester, then you are not eligible for lab access.

NYU Community members should consult  NYU Technology Centers for access to computing systems within NYU IT managed labs and for all non-photo course computing needs.
