What's In Jon Rahm's Bag?

Bag for Rahm, Jon - 2024-May

Source: golfwrx.com

With a pretty unique swinging style, Jon Rahm has become quite a force on the tour. Since turning pro in 2016, the fiery Spaniard has won several PGA Tour events and snapped countless shafts over his knee (which we freaking love!). There were some raised eyebrows when Rahmbo switched to a Callaway setup to start 2021 with very little transition time. But his results have remained fairly steady as evidenced by his consistent appearance in top 10 of the Official World Golf Rankings.

Here are the clubs and equipment that Jon Rahm was using as of May 16, 2024. We've catalogued all of Jon Rahm's club and equipment data into our PGAClubTracker.com database, making it easy to see each player’s club preferences, and how they compare to other Tour players.

Jon Rahm is currently ranked #10 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

  • Jon Rahm what’s in the bag accurate as of the Masters.

Our friend  Sean Martin at PGATour.com on the degree of loft Rahm recently added to his driver.

“He is using the same type of driver head as at the start of the year – a 10.5-degree Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond – but switched into a different head and changed the hosel setting from NS to NS+1, which adds a degree of loft to the head. The increased spin from the added loft brought back Rahm’s preferred shot shape. The team at Callaway brought Rahm several different heads to help him find one that didn’t look too closed with the added loft.”

“In his first round with the new club, Rahm missed just one fairway over the final nine holes of his opening 71 at TPC Sawgrass.”

‘“We knew we were in a good spot, and then it was a bummer because he got sick,” Davidson said Thursday. “Last week, he was working with (instructor) David Phillips, and they had some unbelievable sessions. I think he shot 60 … last week in Scottsdale. We knew coming into this week that he was scoring well.”’

“I feel like this is my home course,” Watson said. “As soon as they put the schedule up, I sign up for this. I want to come back here. This means so much, not only from the golf side of it, but from the family side. My dad, it was the only time he got to see me win (in 2010). He got to see me qualify for the Ryder Cup at this event. Scottie Scheffler’s $70 million bag, rounds that impressed Jordan Spieth most, and more

Plus, the women’s olympic field and texas tech product mito pereira’s bid to represent chile in paris.

Cameron Young, left, celebrates with Jordan Spieth on the 18th green after they finished...

When Cameron Young made a 10-foot par putt for 59 in the third round of the Travelers Championship , Jordan Spieth became a footnote in history as the only player to twice be in the same group as someone who broke 60.

Spieth also played alongside Justin Thomas in the 2017 Sony Open when he made a 15-foot eagle putt on his final hole for 59 in the opening round.

So which was the best round he personally witnessed?

He leaned toward a 60.

Remember, Spieth also was playing with Bryson DeChambeau in the second round of the 2021 BMW Championship at Caves Valley. DeChambeau hit 8-iron to 2 feet for eagle on the par-5 16th hole and needed only to birdie one of the last two holes.

He missed from 15 feet on No. 17 and from 6 feet on No. 18 and shot 60.

“I would say Bryson that day because it was a par 72,” Spieth said. “That might be the answer on those three rounds.”

He had deep appreciation for all three.

Young got off to a flier — two birdies, holing out for eagle from 142 yards, another birdie to reach 5 under through four holes on the par-70 TPC River Highlands. Key was a 30-foot putt on No. 9 and a 3-iron to 4 feet for eagle on the reachable par-4 15th. Conditions allowed for players to lift, clean and place, though Young hit only six fairways.

“I remember thinking both Cam and Justin were right in it at the beginning,” Spieth said.

Thomas holed out from eagle on the short par-4 10th at Waialae to start his round. He actually bogeyed the next hole but then had a 10-hole stretch of eight birdies, including five in a row around the turn.

What Spieth doesn’t recall is that he hit the ball better than Thomas that day — Spieth’s average proximity to the hole was 18 feet, compared with 25 feet for Thomas.

“There’s definitely an argument to be for JT because he knew he needed eagle (on the final hole) and made a 15-foot slider,” Spieth said. “That’s a little bit different. That was the most clutch of the three.”

DeChambeau wasn’t clutch. He hit pitching wedge to 6 feet below the cup for 59 and missed. But so thorough was his performance that day that he never had more than two birdies in a row.

He was 9.913 shots better than the field average at Caves Valley, while Thomas was 9.249 better than the field at Waialae. Young was 7.845 shots better at TPC River Highlands.

Olympics or PGA Tour?

Texas Tech product Mito Pereira of LIV Golf is going back to the Olympics because Cristobal del Solar of Chile wants to give himself his best chance at getting a PGA Tour card.

The International Golf Federation still has del Solar listed as part of the 60-man field for the Paris Olympics. It will not be finalized until July 9. However, Pereira told LIV Golf’s website that del Solar has decided to skip the Olympics to try to move up the Korn Ferry Tour points list.

“He wanted to get to a certain number of points because obviously he’s fighting for his PGA Tour card,” Pereira said last week at LIV Golf Nashville. “It’s not that one is more important than the other. Obviously trying to get to the PGA Tour is his main goal. He made that decision and I think it’s very smart to do it.”

Del Solar, who shot 57 in a Korn Ferry Tour event in Colombia earlier this year, is No. 16 on the points list with 11 tournaments remaining. The top 30 earn PGA Tour status for next year.

Del Solar was No. 195 in the world when Olympic qualifying ended. Pereira was No. 272, but he easily got Chile’s second spot in the Olympics because he was more than 100 spots ahead of the player from the next available country.

Joaquin Niemann, also with LIV Golf , has the other spot for Chile.

Pereira, best known for losing a one-shot lead with a double bogey on the final hole of the 2022 PGA Championship, was part of a seven-man playoff for the bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics. Niemann finished one shot out of the playoff, which was won by C.T. Pan of Taiwan.

“Three years waiting for that again,” Pereira said. “I’m really focused on playing my best to get the medal.”

Olympics won’t include Ewing

Ally Ewing loves nothing more than to represent her country. Her only chance this year will be the Solheim Cup.

Ewing made bogey on the 16th hole and that wound up being a key moment that narrowly kept her out of the Olympics. Countries can have a maximum of four players provided they are among the top 15 in the women’s world ranking.

Ewing by one shot missed out on a tie for second in the KPMG Women’s PGA. She finished in a two-way tie for fifth and moved up to No. 16 in the world. A four-way tie for second would have meant moving to No. 14.

The Americans will have three players at the Paris Games with Nelly Korda, Lilia Vu and Rose Zhang.

Ewing, meanwhile, moved to No. 3 in the Solheim Cup standings for this year’s matches.

Amy Yang won her first major on Sunday at Sahalee and moved to a career-high No. 5. That also gave South Korea three players in the Olympics, with Yang joining Jin Young Ko and Hyo Joo Kim. South Korea had four players the past two Olympics.

No country has four women for the first time since golf returned to the Olympic program in 2016.

Lydia Ko, Brooke Henderson and Leona Maguire are among 13 players who will be competing for the third straight time. Ko has won the silver medal (2016) and bronze (2020).

Senior Open to be more open

The U.S. Senior Open is making changes to become more open.

The USGA says next year’s championship at The Broadmoor in Colorado will have similar qualifying to the U.S. Open. Instead of one stage of qualifying over 33 sites, there will be 32 local qualifiers and 12 final qualifiers.

It also will reduce the number of full exemptions. Among the changes are PGA Tour Champions winners getting a one-year exemption instead of two- or three-year exemptions. The other three American senior majors will get five-year exemptions to the U.S. Senior Open.

Money matters

Scottie Scheffler has won or finished second in eight of his 15 starts on the PGA Tour this year. He is really cashing in at the $20 million signature events.

Scheffler played seven of the eight signature events, won four of them and earned $16.98 million. His season total, including wins at the Masters and The Players Championship, put him at $27,696,858 for the year.

Related: Watch: Tom Kim shares wholesome moment with Scheffler family after Travelers Championship

Still to come is the British Open and two FedEx Cup playoff events. Meanwhile, his victory in the Travelers Championship made him the seventh player to cross $70 million in career earnings. Scheffler is in his fifth full season on the PGA Tour.

Front Office Sports reports that TMRW Sports, the company backed by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy that runs the TGL league, is valued at nearly $500 million in a Series A funding round announced Monday. The indoor, tech-drive TGL with six four-man teams doesn’t start until January. ... Harry Higgs has earned enough points on the Korn Ferry Tour to assure he will have a full PGA Tour card again next year. ... Florida State alumni had a big Sunday in PGA Tour-sanctioned events. John Pak won his first Korn Ferry Tour event, while recent graduate Frederik Kjettrup won in Canada on the PGA Tour Americas. The most famous former Seminole, five-time major champion Brooks Koepka, tied for 42nd against the 54-man field at LIV Golf.

Stat of the week

Scottie Scheffler has been bogey-free in the final round in three of his six victories this year.

”We do the best we can. Some days, golf feels so easy and feels so fun. Other days, it feels like I want to retire very soon.” — Amy Yang after winning her first major at age 34.

Inside a wild 48 hours for Nick Bienz, the Golf Galaxy-working Rocket Mortgage qualifier

Nick Bienz (left) and Ben Hoagland at the 108th Indiana Open at Notre Dame's Warren Golf Course. (Photo: John Fineran/USA TODAY Sports)

Nick Bienz is supposed to report to work on Thursday morning at 7:30. But the 27-year-old part-time Golf Galaxy employee – he works at one of the equipment and apparel chain’s stores on the northeast side of Indianapolis – won’t be clocking in because he has a 2:22 p.m. ET tee time at the PGA Tour’s  Rocket Mortgage Classic  in Detroit after securing his place in the field via an  eight-hole playoff in a Monday qualifier .

Someone please alert his boss.

“I still haven’t made that call,” Bienz said on Wednesday during a phone interview. “I think he knows already. The store’s group chat has been blowing up. They’ve been very supportive but I never technically made that call.”

Who can blame him? At its peak, Bienz said he had 920 text messages to respond to and noted, “I don’t even know that many people. It’s amazing how my life has turned upside down.”

Bienz shot 65 on Monday at The Orchards Golf Club in Washington, Michigan, and was relaxing in the grill room under the impression that his score would be good enough to earn one of four spots into the field – a life-changing moment for someone who had never played in any PGA Tour-sanctioned tournament let alone the big leagues. He said he has played in Monday qualifiers before with no luck but this was his first attempt this year. With multiple groups still finishing their rounds, Bienz enjoyed a celebratory beer or two.

“I need every ounce of alcohol right now to calm the nervous system and not try to vomit on myself,” Bienz told Ryan French of Monday Q in a video  shared on X , formerly known as Twitter. “That’s where we’re at right now.”

He downed the third beer after realizing he had celebrated prematurely and he still had to compete in a playoff. Eight holes later, his dream of playing on the PGA Tour became a reality. How many beers did he throw back afterwards?

“Just one,” he said. “I sat in the same chair at the golf course for 2 ½ hours in shock trying to respond to as many texts as I could and all the logistics for the tournament.”

First, he FaceTimed his fiancée on the cart ride back to the clubhouse. She was sobbing. “Do you know that you’re famous?” she asked.

Bienz, who played his college golf at the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), had no idea that he had gone viral. Ever since, fans have been sending him money via Venmo to help with his expenses, a friend at apparel maker TravisMathew sent him a care package of outfits for the week but he said he hasn’t landed a sponsor yet despite several inquiries including a beer company.

“I’m such a rookie at this I don’t even know the logistics of how I’d get a logo on a shirt in less than 24 hours,” said Bienz, who also received a new bag with the logo of his employer Golf Galaxy.

But he already has met Kevin Kisner, who posted on social media that the Tour should pair them together in the tournament.

“He came up to me and said, ‘Are you my beer drinking buddy?’ ” Bienz recalled. “Then he said, ‘The Tour screwed us, bro. I thought they were going to pair us together.’ ”

Bienz said on four occasions he’s flunked out of Korn Ferry Tour Q-School and also tried the PGA Tour Latinoamerica and Mackenzie Tour twice. His game has been in good form. On June 10, he shot 69 at the Northern Open, an Indiana section event, and won the one-day tournament. He has given himself to his wedding next May to determine whether he is going to continue chasing his dream or call it quits and settle down in a real job. Depending on how he plays in the Rocket Mortgage Classic, where the purse this week is $9.2 million, working in golf retail could be in a galaxy far, far away for him.

“Fortunately for me this week has thrown a massive wrench and I really have no idea what’s going to happen from here,” he said.

Kevin Na What's In The Bag?

Below we take a look at the clubs Na puts into his bag. Na had been a Titleist ambassador for numerous years but he has since signed with Callaway using 12 clubs from the brand however he still uses a PXG hybrid and Titleist Vokey Prototype wedge.

Callaway Epic Speed Triple Diamond

Kevin Na hitting a driver

Na had been using the older Callaway GBB Epic for a while, and was seen using the newer Callaway Epic Flash Sub Zero model at some tournaments. But in 2022 he now has the Epic Speed Triple Diamond in the bag which has 8.5 degrees of loft and is fitted with a Graphite Design Tour AD GP 6 TX shaft. Given his success with the old GBB Epic, it will be interesting to see if this is a permanent driver in the bag.

Na then opts for a couple of Callaway Epic Speed Triple Diamond fairway woods which have 14 and 18 degrees of loft respectively. We haven't been able to test the Triple Diamond version of this club because they are only really available out on Tour, but we have reviewed the normal Epic Speed. It made our Editors Choice list in 2021 because we loved the ball flight of this fairway wood, it also looks great behind the ball, coming in a nice sleek package that inspires confidence at address.

PXG 0317 X Gen 2

Kevin na hitting a hybrid

Na continues to use a hybrid out on Tour, and it is one of only two clubs not made by Callaway. Instead he uses a PXG 0317X Gen 2 hybrid which has 19 degrees of loft. It is fitted with the classic orange and white Graphite Design Tour AD DI 95X shaft.

Callaway Rogue Pro, Callaway Apex Pro 16

kevin na hitting an iron

Na had been using T-MB and 718 AP2 irons from Titleist but now has Apex Pro 16 models from Callaway. He also carries a Callaway Rogue Pro 4-iron. Speaking to Golf.com Na explained why he went for cavity-backed irons; “I can’t play a blade,” Na said. “It’s too difficult, and I’m a pro golfer. I think a blade goes shorter. Off-center hits aren’t going to perform as well as cavity-backs. I don’t see a reason why you’d want to play a blade. I really don’t. I played blades in my early 20s, maybe one year — when I was dumb. But I’m wiser now and play a cavity-back. In the longer irons, I even look for more — I don’t want to say a high-handicapper club — a more forgiving club.”

Callaway Mack Daddy 4, Titleist Vokey Prototype

kevin na hitting a bunker shot

Na has three wedges, two of which are Callaway Mack Daddy 4's with 50 and 54 degrees of loft but we believe the 50 degree model comes in and out of the setup. The other is a 60 degree Titleist Vokey prototype which we noticed last year had a date written on it. At the Tour Championship his wedge had the date “8/2021” written in permanent marker on the head. Why? Well it is a way for him to keep track of the grooves which makes sense given how often top players practice and wear out grooves on lob wedges in particular.

Odyssey Toulon Madison

Kevin Na lining up a putt

Finally Na has also recently switched putter from an Odyssey Stroke Lab #7 to a Toulon Design Madison which is similar to the model Francesco Molinari uses on Tour. It was with this putter he set records with at the 2020 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open en-route to victory. During the week he set the record for most feet of putts made for a week - 588-feet, 11 inches. As such the Madison has remained in the bag and Na himself has said in the past; “I’m not much of a tinkerer, once I find something I like I usually give it a couple of years. I think I’m set for a while.”

Callaway Chrome Soft X

There was a big change in 2022 for Kevin Na on the golf ball front. He had been using the Titleist Pro V1x for over a decade but has now switched into the Callaway Chrome Soft X.

Johnny Wunder, Tour Content Manager for Callaway wrote of the switch; One of the toughest switchers on Tour, Kevin Na, approached our Tour team late last summer inquiring about the buzz around the CSX. His process is extensive, starting at home in his simulator to ensure that the ball will work at a baseline, then it has to pass the short game test, which is the most critical for Kevin. Once it’s reached that point, it needs to perform on course in multiple weather conditions. In the end, he picked up more spin around the greens, CSX was far superior in the wind, and the extra MPH in ball speed off the driver doesn’t hurt."

G/FORE MG4+

kevin na shoes

Na uses G/FORE MG4+ golf shoes which are a favorite of ours. Comfortable from start to finish, the shoe performed about as well as is possible on a debut outing and beyond. Although a  spikeless golf shoe , there was never a situation where a lack of grip from the non-slip outsole was noticeable, even on a variety of slopey lies. It is also waterproof and available in several cool colors.
