December 7th, 1941 – When the World Changed Forever
The attack on the Pacific Fleet of the United States was unprecendented. That Sunday morning the Japanese invades awakened “The Sleeping Giant” that was the United States of America. December 7th, 1941 is one of those dates in history, much like July 4th, 1776, that is near and dear in the hearts of Americans. Anyone who lived through this time period can most likely tell you where they were on that day when they heard the news that the Japanese have attacked Pearl Harbor. Although the United States had been actively contributing to the Allies in the European Theatre against the advances of Germany, this event formally threw the USA into the Second World War.
In just a few short hours, the mighty American fleet at Pearl Harbor had been savagely attacked and shattered, giving the Japanese the advantage and leaving the mighty US Navy in shock. The assault was a combined effort between Japanese bombers and fighter planes as well as very small submarines that came into the harbor to deliver torpedoes. The main target of the attack was the backbone of the Pacific Fleet located at Battleship Row where the ‘Mighty Missouri’ now stands for visitors to tour. Fortunately for the United States, the incredibly valuable aircraft carriers were out to sea and survived to mount a counter-offensive in 1942 at Midway and Coral Sea where the US Navy struck two decisive blows.
Your visit to Pearl Harbor will be a day you will remember forever. The facilities at Pearl Harbor do as much to inspire awe in the event itself as to educate and bring alive the history of this period. You’ll get an in-depth experience about the events leading up to the attack as well as how Pearl Harbor and the island of Oahu were pivotal during the remainder of World War 2. If you’re visiting Hawaii and haven’t gotten a chance to experience this historic site, now is the time to visit one of America’s most important historic sites.

For example, the Battleship Missouri Memorial and the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum are located on Ford Island, and neither of them are affiliated with the Pearl Harbor National Memorial.
The Pearl Harbor National Memorial is managed by the National Park Service and encompasses a visitor center, a theater, a bookstore, interpretive exhibits, Remembrance Circle and most notably, the USS Arizona Memorial, which honors the 1,177 crewmen who lost their lives on the battleship during the attack.

TWO-WAY TRANS FROM WAIKIKI
Transportation quality can be hit or miss in Hawaii. We don’t take any chances by providing round-trip transfers from Waikiki to Pearl Harbor in beautiful limo style buses. You’ll not only appreciate the air conditioning, but also the hospitable tour guides.
VISITORS CENTER & MUSEUMS
The Visitors Center will be your hub while touring Pearl Harbor. It is the first building that you check-in to, and the location where shuttles to the other attractions depart and return from. The Visitor Center is also home to 2 different museums named “Road To War” & “Attack” which come included with your admission to Pearl Harbor.
EXCLUSIVE DOCUMENTARY
No event in United States history has been the subject of more documentaries over the past 75 years than the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. That’s what makes this one so special… This is an exclusive documentary that is not played on TV or Youtube etc. It can only be viewed at Pearl Harbor and contains exclusive footage of the day that will live in infamy.
USS ARIZONA MEMORIAL
Built over the sunken wreckage of the USS Arizona you’ll find the iconic Arizona Memorial. The Battleship, made famous on that infamous day, is the watery grave of the 1,177 Navy Sailors that were killed on December 7, 1941 when Pearl Harbor was bombed by the Japanese. The sunken battleship was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1989, and is now a must-see destination for anyone taking a trip to Hawaii.
WALL OF NAMES
The Wall of Names is one of the more sacred aspects of the visit to the USS Arizona Memorial. Here we are able to honor the fallen soldiers who lost their lives to the perils of war during the attack. A moment of silence is observed in during this time to pay respect for those who gave everything for their freedom.
TEARS OF THE ARIZONA
The USS Arizona was bombed and completely sank during the air strike on Pearl Harbor. Because the ship was in the harbor, it’s reserves were full and the ship sunk will a full reservoir of fuel and oil. The traces of oil that surface daily can be seen best when the Harbor is calm, and is one of the more sobering aspects of the experience.
KING KAMEHAMEHA STATUE
Sculpted by Thomas Gould in Florence, this 18-foot bronze statue of Kamehameha is one of Oahu’s most photographed landmarks. On the Friday closest to June 11 (Kamehameha Day), this statue is ceremoniously draped with wreaths of flower lei to celebrate Hawaii’s greatest king. A great warrior, diplomat and leader, King Kamehameha I united the Hawaiian Islands into one royal kingdom in 1810 after years of conflict.
PUNCHBOWL NATIONAL CEMETERY
The National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl Cemetery) is located at Punchbowl Crater in Honolulu. It serves as a memorial to honor those men and women who served in the United States Armed Forces, and is visited by millions of people per year. It is like the Arlington National Cemetery of the Pacific and is one of the favorite stops of the guests on tour.

Extremely Meaningful
We did this on our first morning and it was an excellent experience! Our guide Miah was so nice and informative! The tour at Pearl Harbor was extremely meaningful and a total must see. What made it though, was all of the history and stories Miah told. I recommend this tour with all of my fingers and toes! I can’t imagine anything better! Thank you Cousin Maih! mahalo!
Our Tour Guide, Cousin Maia, Was Fantastic!
My sister and I booked this tour on our recent trip to Oahu. Our tour guide, Cousin Maia, was fantastic! His knowledge of Hawaii history, plus the extra stories he told on the trip made this way more than a tour of Pearl Harbor. You can’t go wrong with this deal — and if you’re lucky enough to get Maia, it’s worth twice the price!
Great Tour!
John Junior did an awesome job with our group. He was funny, informative, timely, and entertaining. Our group was ahead of schedule, so he dropped us by a local ice cream shop that was wonderful! He gave us lots of info on Hawaiian and WWII history. He played the ukelele and sang us a song, and is very talented. The donuts and coffee were great too. For us being on a tight time schedule, this was the perfect way for us to get in Pearl Harbor and Honolulu and at a great price. Not having to drive or navigate traffic alone made it worth the price. Maholo for a great morning!
Aloha Pearl Harbor
What a wonderful excursion once again from Aloha Tours! Cousin Nate was our tour guide, historian, proud native Hawaiian and American who filled our trip with stories we will never forget! Visiting the Pearl Harbor Memorial is a once in a lifetime experience in itself. Cousin Nate’s passion and love for his Hawaiian culture and history was a welcoming addition to the day. (Oh.. the donuts were delicious, too!) Thank you!
Angelique R.
Happy I Learned About Pearl Harbor!
Cousin Maya (Maia) was great he entertained and included everyone on the way there while getting us there safely. Be ready to participate. Maya great at spontaneous humor and the boat tour guide was also incredibly.professional and sentimental. I did the Hiroshima Memorial museum about a year ago the day after the anniversary of bombing. Very happy I learned about Pearl Harbor I knew so little even though my grandpa was on a merchant ship near Japan during WWII. You will never have a pity party after your visit to Pearl Harbor. Thanks cousin Maria! and everyone! Angelique
We loved the entire day.
Cousin Maia was a great host! We loved the entire day. We ran a little behind on the way to Pearl harbor due to construction traffic & our tickets were actually given away to a different group but..no worries! Cousin Maia had it all sorted out in a few minutes! Highly recommend this tour if you’d like to learn some of the history behind the island. Cousin Maia was very knowledgeable and professional & kept a laid back aloha vibe the entire day. We will be doing the circle island tour next time we visit for sure. Mahalo!
Information that you didn’t learn in school.
Cousin Miah was fantastic! He is light hearted and keeps the mood relaxed. He made a tired early morning group get into a good spirit, and tried to imbue the “Aloha Spirit” throughout the tour. He’s a veteran, and when he’s giving information about Pearl Harbor, makes sure that you remember it’s also a memorial and not simply a tourist attraction. You get a good overall sense of the island and it’s history, and he offers eye opening information that you didn’t learn in school. Also, NONE of the other tours were offering coffee or donuts when you get off the bus!

Frequently asked questions, what is the baggage policy.
No bags of any size are allowed anywhere at Pearl Harbor. This includes backpacks, camera bags, purses, luggage, and fanny packs must all be left at the baggage storage at the entrance to the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center. For diaper needs, we suggest parents and caregivers include these baby items in a clear sealable under the stroller seat for clear visibility and access.
Where can I pick up my audio tour headset?
You can pick up your headset for the audio tour near the Information Desk at the Visitors Center.
Can I bring a stroller, wheelchair, or mobility device?
Pearl Harbor is an accessible site, there are no hills, and the paths are mostly flat. Wheelchairs are not available for rent at the park. There are benches placed around the visitor center and there are wheelchair locks on the US Navy navy boats to and from the memorial that sport visitors back and forth to the Memorial.
Motorized mobility devices are welcome at the Visitor Center and on US Navy Vessels, and the USS Arizona Memorial.
Strollers are welcome on site but can only go so far as the USS Arizona Memorial pre-boarding area at the Park Theater. Strollers are not permitted on US Navy vessels or the USS Arizona Memorial, please bring a baby carrier as an alternate option in these areas.
Can I bring food and beverages?
Due to the Pearl Harbor National Memorial's no-bag policy, only bring snacks and water bottles that you can carry. There is a small snack shop on site that carries various sundry snacks and cold beverages as well as restaurants throughout the area. There are water fountains located throughout the park to use or refill water bottles.
What is appropriate dress and attire?
We recommend that all visitors consider this site is for remembrance and reflection of the loss of life in service to the United States, therefore please plan for appropriate dress. Battle dress uniform is not allowed on the memorial, though it is allowed throughout the visitor center and at sites on Ford Island. Military visitors are welcome to wear civilian attire when visiting.

The USS Arizona Memorial
Designed by the Austrian-born American architect, Alfred Preis (February 2, 1911 - March 29, 1994), this iconic white structure is immediately recognized around the world and was dedicated by John F. Kennedy on May 30th 1962. It stands atop the actual sunken USS Arizona Battleship which heroes who lost their lives during the attack on Pearl Harbor remain entombed to this day. Its effect is one of serenty with the sag in the middle expressing initial defeat, but the ends standing strong to show ultimate victory. You can still witness droplets of oil seep to the surface which are sometimes referred to as "the tears of the Arizona" or "black tears".
The USS Missouri Battleship
It is an Iowa-class battleship and the third ship of the United States Navy to be named after the state of Missouri. Commissioned in June of 1944, the USS Missouri fought in the battles of Okinawa and Iwo Jima and later in two tours during the Korean War. The Mighty Mo is best remembered for being the site of representatives of the Empire of Japan signing the Japanese Instrument of Surrender, ending World War II on September 2, 1945.
The USS Bowfin Submarine & Pacific Fleet Subamrine Museum
Built in 1942 and commissioned in May of 1943, the USS Bowfin Balao-class fleet attack submarine has been open to the public along with the Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum since 1981 at Pearl Harbor. Named after the bowfin fish, the submarine has been a pivital ship in many war patrols and coordinated operations between 1943 and 1945, mostly in the Sea of Japan, South China Sea, and Celebes Sea. On December 7th 1942, exactly one year after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Bowfin was nicknamed "The Pearl Harbor Avenger" and helped make famous the term, "Silent Service".
The Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum
The museum officially opened on December 7th 2006, the 65th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. It is located on Ford Island and now occupies 2 hangars covering 16 acres. It is host to a large variety of aviation exhibits with the majority being specific to the Attack on Pearl Harbor and World War II.

Just the perfect tour of Pearl Harbor made by our tour guide/driver Oli.
We wound up taking this tour because the ones through Holland America were booked months in advance. What a blessing it was too! Oli was fantastic and I was in tears by the we got to Pearl Harbor for our tour because he ... so vividly told of the events before the attacks and then the attack itself. I'll never forget the experience and so very glad I made this resevation.

Hawaii Tours FAQ
The ideal stay on Oahu can vary, but a common recommendation is about 5 to 7 days. This allows you to explore the island’s major attractions, enjoy some beach time, and get a taste of its unique culture. Of course, the more time you have, the more you can discover!
Oahu is beautiful year-round, but the best time to visit for great weather and fewer crowds is typically from mid-April to early June and September to mid-December. These are the shoulder seasons, providing a more relaxed and pleasant experience.
It takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours to drive around the entire island if you’re taking the scenic route without many stops. However, exploring the island thoroughly with stops at various attractions will take a full day or more. For reference, our Circle Island Tour lasts around 9 hours.
Guided tours offer you the expertise of local guides who can provide insights, take you to the best spots, and ensure you make the most of your visit. Whether it’s a historical tour, a hiking adventure, or a cultural exploration, guided tours can make your Oahu experience truly memorable.
Among the multitude of tours available on Oahu, the two most iconic and highly sought-after experiences are the Circle Island Tours and Pearl Harbor Tours. These tours have consistently garnered immense popularity among visitors, offering distinct and compelling attractions that captivate the hearts of tourists from around the world.
While several transportation options are available, guided bus tours stand out as the most comfortable and economical means of experiencing all that Hawaii has to offer. Guided bus tours provide an unbeatable combination of comfort, convenience, and affordability. They offer travelers a stress-free and leisurely way to explore Hawaii’s most famous attractions and hidden gems.
For your first visit to Hawaii, Oahu is an ideal choice due to its well-developed infrastructure, making it easy to explore the island. Oahu offers a wide range of accommodation options, from luxury resorts to budget-friendly choices, and is equipped with modern amenities. You can enjoy diverse activities, from relaxing on famous beaches like Waikiki to exploring cultural sites like Pearl Harbor. The island’s culinary scene and cultural experiences are rich and varied, providing a well-rounded introduction to Hawaii’s offerings. Whether you’re interested in relaxation, adventure, or cultural immersion, Oahu has something to offer every traveler.
Hawaii’s weather is characterized by a tropical climate, offering warm temperatures year-round. Coastal areas typically experience temperatures in the 70s and 80s Fahrenheit (20s to 30s Celsius) during the day, with relatively mild fluctuations between seasons. Trade winds provide a pleasant breeze, especially in the summer. While Hawaii does have wet and dry seasons, rain showers are common but brief, with the wetter season occurring from November to March. The leeward (west) sides of the islands tend to be drier, while the windward (east) sides receive more rainfall. Overall, Hawaii offers pleasant weather for outdoor activities and beach visits throughout the year.
Choosing the best Hawaiian island to visit depends on your preferences. Oahu is great for first-timers, offering a mix of culture, activities, and infrastructure. Maui is known for its natural beauty, including the Road to Hana and Haleakalā. The Big Island (Hawaii) is perfect for adventure seekers with its volcanoes and diverse landscapes. Kauai is a haven for nature lovers, famous for its lush, pristine scenery. Molokai and Lanai are quieter and less touristy, ideal for a more relaxed experience.

Waikīkī Beach Stays
The Inside Guide to Waikīkī
Pearl Harbor Sightseeing Tours
Waikiki Beach
Waikiki is the most popular tourist destination on Oahu. People from all over the world flock to Waikiki to truly turn it into a melting pot. Waikiki is the main departure point for most tours and activities on Oahu. If there is a bookable tour, then Waikiki is the place to go to get on the tour. Waikiki is a vibrant center for shopping and dining, with something for tourists and locals alike. Waikiki’s beaches are the most beautiful in the World, with every type of water activity available at one of Waikiki’s world renown beaches. One thing everyone can agree on, Hawaii has no shortage of activities for someone to participate in. The most popular kind of tour is Pearl Harbor Tours , almost any other kind of tour has a pickup in Waikiki.
Waikiki Hotels
Other than its beautiful beaches, Waikiki is known for its hotels. From affordable single rooms to multi-room penthouses costing thousands of dollars a night, there are a variety of places for someone to stay. Waikiki’s hotels are the main pickup point for tours ranging from Pearl Harbor Tours to Oahu Circle Island Tours. The hotels in Waikiki have a long history. The Moana Surfrider is the first hotel in Waikiki, which was built in 1901. Since then, hotels have sprung up all around Waikiki. From timeshares to the latest boutique hotels. The most famous hotels in Waikiki are the high-end hotels, the Royal Hawaiian and the Halekulani; the Hilton Hawaiian Village is known for its weekly fireworks display, and of course, the oldest hotel in Waikiki, the Moana Surfrider. With all these hotels and shopping areas, it is easy to forget that Waikiki also houses an Army base. The Hale Koa Hotel is owned by the Department of Defense, and you need to have either a military ID or DoD ID just to be able to eat at the restaurants. While many of the hotels have been around for decades, it is a mistake to think that they are old and dingy. The hotels are all regularly renovated. At the very edge of Waikiki is a special building. This is the Hawaii Convention Center. The Hawaii convention center is a venue for shows and conventions that come to Hawaii. In addition, weddings are hosted there. The convention center has also been featured in movies.
Waikiki Food
There is a stunning variety of food to be had in Waikiki. From fast food to fine dining, chances are, if you can think of it, there is somewhere in Waikiki where you can buy it. Waikiki is home to many five-star restaurants, some owned by world-famous chefs. Many of the hotels offer buffet-style dining in addition to fine dining. Hawaii’s unique geographic location in the middle of the Pacific Ocean makes it one of the great centers of eastern and western fusion cuisine. This opens up the opportunity for experimentation with a combination of western and eastern food. Hawaii’s native culture also comes into play when it comes to the choice of food. Since it is difficult to find anywhere else in the World, Hawaiian food is very much in demand and is a feature of luau whether in Waikiki or elsewhere on Oahu.
Waikiki Shopping
Few places can rival Waikiki for shopping. Waikiki has department stores, touristy trinket sellers, T-shirt stands, and high-end boutique stores. There is something for everyone in Waikiki. Waikiki houses several shopping centers, such as the International Marketplace and the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, and the Waikiki Business Plaza. Just outside of Waikiki, within walking distance are two major shopping areas. They are the Ala Moana Shopping Center, the largest open-air shopping center in the World, with 350 shops and restaurants. A little further beyond the Ala Moana Shopping Center is the Ward entertainment complex with a movie theater and yet more shops and restaurants. The area from Waikiki to Ward is almost one large continuous shopping district filled with shops selling all manner of items from all over the World.
Waikiki Entertainers
What is dinner without a show? Hawaii has a vibrant musical culture, and nowhere is it more apparent than in Waikiki. Live performances of all kinds are available in Waikiki. There are magic shows, standup comedy, celebrity impersonators, live music, and hula performances. Waikiki is the home of both the Waikiki Aquarium, showcasing some of Hawaii’s unique sea life, and the Honolulu Zoo. The City of Honolulu also hosts a weekly theater on the beach with a movie screening in the evening right on the beach. Several hotels host their own luaus with live musical performances and the serving of some traditional Hawaiian food along with some other more western dishes for the less adventurous eaters. There are several nightclubs for dancing, and a couple of times a year, roads are closed down for block parties after dark. Right in the middle of Waikiki, there is an Army Base. Called Fort DeRussy, there is a former coastal gun emplacement that has become the US Army Museum in Waikiki. Imagine walking through a tropical paradise and coming up on a building with tanks sitting in front of it. The US Army Museum is free to enter and houses many artifacts from Hawaii’s military past, from ancient Hawaii to Vietnam. Including artifacts from the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the role that Fort DeRussy played in defending Hawaii in the event of a Japanese Invasion.
Waikiki Parades
With its long straight road going straight down the middle of it, Kalakaua Ave. in Waikiki is a popular road for parades. Oahu’s largest parades are held in Waikiki. Parades are so frequent that it feels like there is a parade every month. One of the largest parades is the Aloha Week parade. The parade consists of thousands of marchers along with floats and horses. Other parades include the Pearl Harbor remembrance parade held on December 7, the anniversary of the Japanese attack. There is also a Christmas Parade, the King Kamehameha Floral Parade, and the Honolulu Festival, which is a celebration of Japanese Culture with cultural demonstrations and a parade. Waikiki also hosts many smaller parades, such as a pride parade and a children’s youth parade.
Waikiki Beaches
Waikiki is home to many beautiful beaches. Some are unmatched among some of the best beaches in the World. Their white sands and crashing waves lure people from all over the World into taking a dip in the water to cool off from the hot Hawaiian sun. Waikiki beaches are safe and offer many activities, such as snorkeling, surfing, body boarding, parasailing, and more. For those who wish to learn how to surf, lessons are available. Swimming is safe in Waikiki with less of the dangerous water conditions found elsewhere in Hawaii and with lifeguards constantly watching for those in need of help. It takes hard work to maintain Waikiki’s beaches. Erosion is a constant problem, and sand has to be brought in and redistributed on the beaches. Periodic cleaning of the beaches must also be done to keep Waikiki’s beaches looking pristine..
