Best Time for Panchase Trek in Nepal

Panchase Trek can be done throughout the year. But the best time is preferred as autumn (September, October, and November). It is the best time for almost all the treks in the Annapurna Region, as well as in whole Nepal.

Panchase Trek During Mid-September to Early December

In this time, the views are stunning. In case the monsoon occurs late, the atmosphere remains cloudy. Chances of rainfall also increase.

Panchase Trek During Mid-December to February

In this time, winter season falls in Nepal. The skies seem clearer but the environment remains colder. If you are willing to trek around in this time, warm clothing and supporting gears are advised. Little chance of rainfall and snowfall also prevails.

Panchase Trek During March to April

In this time, spring season falls in Nepal. It is the second-best time for trekking and is also recognized as a dry season of Nepal. Few drops of rain and storms tentatively occur in Pokhara; so there is the chance of occurrencethe of cloudy atmosphere in Panchase area.

Panchase Trek During May to Mid-June

This time is referred to as pre-monsoon season in Nepal. The surrounding remains covered with blooming flowers and newly sprouted leaves. Also, sometimes, clouds may cover the area, and rainfall may occur.

Panchase Trek During Late June to Early September

This time is known as the monsoon season in Nepal. It is the less recommended time for trekking. Climate remains cloudier and rainier. When there is no rainfall, the view remains pristine and mesmerizing. But the wet and slippery trail does not really support. Also, the rain parasites like snails, slugs, and leeches distract on the trekking path.

Some Safety Notes

  • Carry your own personal stuff
  • Carry appropriate trekking gears (include sleeping bag – warm to 20-degree Fahrenheit, under-wears, gloves, slacks or light jeans, a ski jacket or parka, walking boots, water bottles, flashlight or headlight, woolen shirts or sweater, towel, toilet kit, waterproof daypack or rucksack, and so on)
  • Check on the weather and climatic condition of Nepal; pick the appropriate seasons
  • A guide will take care of your safety; so, do not panic or rush if you get in any problem
  • There is no need for higher physical training and experiences, but one should be able to have some walks. Little walks and exercise per day will aid a lot in it. Having cycling, running, swimming experience will also be better.
  • Altitude Sickness: There is possibly no chances of suffering from altitude sickness. But carry some medication with self to prevent the situation (if)

So, be prepared and rock the Panchase Trek in Nepal with Nepal Trek Adventure and Expedition.

Panchase Trek Itinerary, Route, and Map

Nepal Itinerary , Trekking in Nepal / April 25, 2024 by fulltimeexplorer / Leave a Comment

The Panchase Trek is a short three-day trek covering the southwest side of Lake Phewa near Pokhara. Despite being so close to a major city, this is a proper trek with hiking trails going through gorgeous forests with views of the Himalaya in the distance on a clear day. We attempted this trek in September and there were so many leeches we had to turn back. But that didn’t stop us from trying again two years later in October when the weather was perfect and we got incredible views! Here’s the Panchase Trek Itinerary we followed and everything you need to know.

Panchase Trek Map

Note: This map should not be used for navigational purposes. It is only meant to give an idea of the route and is not perfectly to scale, and some of the walking routes may not be present. Download maps.me on your phone for an accurate offline map that is free to use.

Panchase Trek Overview

Trek duration.

The Panchase Trek takes 3 days to complete.

Panchase Trek Difficulty Level

This is an easy to moderate trek. As it is a low altitude trek, you don’t need to worry about things like altitude sickness or difficulty breathing. Since it’s only 3 days long, it isn’t too strenuous. There are some steep sections, and there are some areas where the trail isn’t well made, but overall this is a great trek for beginners.

Required Permits

No permit is required for the Panchase Trek.

Panchase Trek History

This trek has only gained popularity in the last few years, however the villages along the route are much older. When I asked one of the teahouse owners how old the village was, he said their family had lived in the village for five or six generations.

Originally, this area had a few villages, and the trekking trail was the route taken to cow sheds by shepherds or routes connecting the small villages nearby. The lake near Panchase is a pilgrimage site for Hindus who visit after a loved one has passed away to perform a puja (religious ceremony) in their honor.

Best Time to do the Panchase Trek

Late October to April are the best times to do this trek. The views are best in October and November, however, in March and April you’ll see more flowers. Monsoon season (May, June, July, August, and September) are not a good time to do this trek due to leeches and the overgrown plants that take over the trail. We attempted the trek at the end of monsoon season in the last week of September and we had so many leeches on us we had to turn back.

Panchase Trail Info

The Panchase trail is great for beginners. There are some steep sections, but it’s nothing brutal. The trail consists of stone walkways, stone steps, dirt paths, and some paths that are not very noticeable. The route goes through forests, fields, and a few small villages. Towards the end, you’ll end up near the tourist attractions and major temples in Pokhara which is more crowded and passes through the main road once in a while.

Navigating the Panchase Trek

The Panchase trek is easy to navigate in some sections, and difficult to navigate in others. You can download Maps.me (mobile app) before doing the trek as that has the path marked. However, I do recommend having a guide on this trail. There are some areas that go through dense forest and some areas where the trail is not clearly marked and there is barely a noticeable path.

Packing List

I have a separate post for my packing list as it was too much to include here. Read this blog post for a list of everything I carried with me…

Panchase Trek Packing List

I’ve written an entire post breaking down what we spent on the trek. You can read it here…

Detailed Panchase Trek Itinerary Breakdown (3 days)

Day 1 – pokhara to panchase bhanjyang.

Pokhara Altitude:    822 m (2,696 ft)

Panchase Bhanjyang Altitude:   2,100 m (6,889 ft)

Daily Altitude Increase:  1,278 m (4,192 ft)

Oxygen Concentration:  79% compared to 100% at sea level

Driving Time:   1 hour 30 minutes from Pokhara to Bhadaure by taxi

Walking Time: 3 hours (not including lunch/tea breaks)

Walking Distance: 6.1 km (3.8 miles)

Tea house:  Happy Heart Hotel

Daily Details:

The day starts off with a 1.5 hour drive to Bhadaure village. If you leave early in the morning, you can arrive at Panchase Bhanjyang by lunch. But, if you want a more leisurely schedule, I recommend eating lunch in Bhadaure as there is nowhere to stop along the route. We left our hotel a little late, so we got dropped at the highway and walked about 15 minutes uphill to Panchase Green Hill Guest House in Bhadaure for lunch.

Since it’s only a three-hour walk, we took our time stopping for photos and enjoying the view. After lunch, it’s mostly uphill for an hour, but it’s a nice stone path with stone stairs, so it doesn’t feel too difficult.

For the following hour, it’s not so steep, however it is still mostly uphill. The path goes through quiet forests on a beautiful trail. It’s a peaceful and relaxing walk through the woods. On a clear day, there’s nice views whenever you reach an opening in the trees.

The last hour is a gentler walk along a path through the woods. There are some forks in the pathway, so make sure to have a guide or maps.me downloaded in advance. There are no stops or villages in between Bhadaure and Panchase Bhanjyang, so bring snacks and enough water for the entire walk.

Day 2 – Panchase Bhanjyang to Bhumdi

Bhumdi Altitude:   1,525 m (5,000 ft)

Daily Altitude Decrease:   575 m (1,886 ft)

Oxygen Concentration:  84% compared to 100% at sea level

Walking Time: 4 hours 45 minutes (not including lunch/tea breaks)

Walking Distance: 7 km (4.4 miles)

Tea house:  Himalayan View Teahouse

Day two feels like a proper trekking route and is a little harder to navigate. The day starts off with a path that weaves in and out of a dirt road. While there are almost no cars on this road, it is tricky to find the entry point for the walking path that cuts in between. After you pass the road, you end up going through a jungle route with a pathway that is not well worn. At times, it’s hard to tell where the route goes, which is why a guide is recommended. This section takes about two hours.

From here you end up back on a dirt pathway that goes through a dense forest. The path is mostly flat, but the forest is dense and you can’t see into it. We jumped when we passed a wall of leaves and something on the other side made a peculiar chuffing noise. We jumped so high that it was laughable. It turned out, we startled some pheasants nearby and they must have jumped as well. Luckily, our guide could tell us what animal it was, because we thought we were about to be attacked by some kind of wild cat or sloth bear and almost ran the rest of the way back to Pokhara.

Once we made it out of the dense forest, we stopped for a snack in an opening. There are no teahouses or places to eat on the way, so I recommend ordering extra food from the teahouse in Panchase Bhanjyang. We ordered roasted potatoes with a dry achar (timur, salt, and masala) to dip in, hard boiled eggs, and chapati. It was the perfect snack to eat on the way. We sat under a large Chautari tree near a cow shed once we got out of the jungle section of the walk.

From there, it’s a beautiful descent into the village of Bhumdi which is part of Pumdi Bhumdi. You can see the village below with the mountains towering above on a clear day. I had a blister on my foot, so we stopped at the first teahouse we could find which turned out to be nice with a welcoming owner. But, if you want something a little more luxurious, you can walk to Pumdikot Mountain Lodge which is another 1.5 hours away.

Day 3 – Bhumdi to Pokhara

Bhumdi Altitude:   1,525m (5,000 ft)

Daily Altitude Decrease:   703 m (2,306 ft)

Oxygen Concentration:  91% compared to 100% at sea level

Walking Time: 3 hours 30 minutes (not including lunch/tea breaks)

Walking Distance: 9.6 km (6 miles)

Hotel: Check out my list of the best hotels in Pokhara

Day 3 starts with a walk along the road for at least 30 minutes. Then, you follow a beautiful village pathway until you reach a gorgeous ridge line that overlooks Lake Phewa and the city of Pokhara in the distance. We decided to stop at Pumdikot Mountain Lodge for a tea break. The views from here were spectacular. We had incredible weather and the mountain range was stunning.

From here, you can either take the main road or the adventurous route which keeps you on the ridgeline of the lake. This route has some areas with rock scrambles for about 30 minutes. Then, you’ll see the giant Shiva statue that overlooks the lake below. You can spend some time looking around and taking photos or even have a bite to eat.

After the statue, there’s a small pathway that leads through villages and bypasses the main road for 25 minutes. Then you meet up with the main road and follow that for a half hour. Luckily it’s paved, so it’s not dusty. You’ll see a smaller dirt road leading off to the left and that takes you to the Peace Pagoda. This is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Pokhara and is worth a visit.

After the Peace Pagoda, you can follow a pathway down through the forest. It’s a nice stairway leading down, but after the long morning, my legs were feeling shaky and my blister under my toe was hurting. But if you’re in good shape, it’s a lovely walk through the trees until you reach the boat launch. The boat cost us 650 NRS (about $6 USD) and it took us almost directly across the lake for 20 minutes. There are a few different docks in Lakeside, so you can tell them the one closest to your hotel, however, the price will be different depending on the dock. The boat ride is the perfect way to end a long walk and enjoy a peaceful glide across the lake.

Trip Introduction

Panchase Trek is one of the short treks around Pokhara away from the actual Annapurna trail but it is a rural-cultural off-the-beaten trek that offers an ideal way to discover natural beauty around Pokhara for those visitors on visit, without missing out on the incredible views over the Annapurna Himalayan Range and experience the village life. Our short trek starts in style with a gentle boat trip across Lake Phewa to take you to the start point, where a short climb will be rewarded with stunning views out across the Annapurnas, Machhapuchhare (Fishtail), Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu, which will form the backdrop to much of the trek. The trail will take you up to the World Peace Pagoda, through the forest where you can see the flora and fauna of Nepal, and past several villages where you can experience the daily lives of the local people. It takes you up to an elevation of 2500m on the summit of Panchase Hill, from which (if you are willing to get up early enough!) you can see a dramatic sunrise over the Himalayas giants.

Panchase is one of the closest short treks near Pokhara. Panchase is a point of five tall hills where they meet on the top. On the top of Panchase; there is a temple of Sidda Baba, Dharmasala, Mahadev temple, a view tower, and Buddha statues. The intersection of Kaski, Parbat, and Syangja districts is called Panchase. Panchase Hill offers impressive views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, Lamjung Himal, and Manaslu and some stunning views of sunrise and sunset. There is a Pancsila Lake and Barah temple at the top. It is said that saints used to stay there because if fire caught in 1966 they moved elsewhere. However; it is a sacred site for yoga and meditation.

People and locals.

Panchase and its surrounding area are home to some 70,000 population including Kalabang, Chitre, and Bhadaure. Deurali, Talibarang, Arthare and Sidhane villages. Most of these villages have homestay facilities with welcoming hospitality. One needs to inform in advance if you are going to stay in one of those and you have to be there before sunset.

Nature and wildlife

Panchase; resting on the lap of the Himalayas is a complete package with its pristine beauty, and topographical diversity to go with the blend of historic, religious, and cultural hues. Panchase which abuts Kaski, Syangja, and Parbat districts is a place of bio-diversity and is home to endangered bird species of the world. In case you have not noticed. Panchase has biological diversity as there are different kinds of birds, animals, butterflies, flowers, and vegetation. Harpan Khola – the origin of the famous Phewa Lake, Adhikhola, Ratikhola, Jarekhola, and Seti Khola all these small river and rivulets flows from Panchase. The world-famous rhododendron, Sunkhari, and Leksallo among other flowers are the staple products of the area. Panchase is also known as the depot of endangered herbs and herbal medicine. The world's endangered herbs such as Satuwa, Chattre Unyu, and Loth Salla have existed since the time of dinosaurs. It is also home to animals like leopards, bears, deer, and many species of birds.

How are the accommodation and food in Panchase?

The accommodation in this route is quite basic compared to other popular trekking trails such as Ghorepani Poon Hill or Annapurna Circuit in Annapurna. Local people run homestay services at Kalabang and Pumdi villages offering staying in local homes. We saw one new lodge at Bhumdi that is a bit away from the village. For those; who love experiencing local culture and don’t mind going through basic facilities then it is a firsthand opportunity to discover the locals and their lifestyle. The food is usually rice, potatoes, noodles, eggs, momo, chapati etc and tea, coffee for table drinks. Dal Bhaat (a Nepalese set meal that comes with boiled rice, lentil soup, fried/cooked vegetables, and pickles) is served in homestays. For beverages and bars, there are cold drinks, beer, distillery drinks, and Raksi (local wine).

When to go / what is the best time to trek?

Panchase Trek can be done year-round. The best advised time to trek there is fall (September – November) however it can be one of the wet areas in the Annapurna region. There are high seasons that suit this trek and the following months have traditionally been used as a guide for the favorite times of the year to do the Panchase trek.  Mid-September - November - early December: this is Nepal's best time to go trekking however if the Monsoon is late then Panchase can remain cloud-covered until early October rarely. Otherwise, the views at this time of year in Panchase are usually just gorgeous.

Mid-December to February: This is the winter season in Nepal; has a clear sky but it can be cold in Panchase, so warm clothing is advised. Little chance of snowfall this time at Panchase.  March - April: this is the spring season; the end of the dry season and the second best time of the year for trekking. At this time there are rare chances of showers rain and storms in Pokhara hence Panchase is likely to have cloud cover sometimes.

May - June: This is Nepal's hot pre-monsoon period and it can be quite warm. The valleys around Panchase flourish with flowers and new leaves though which makes for a very nice trek. However cloud cover can be an issue.

June – Early September: Monsoon season and not a good time to go trekking to Panchase.  The leeches in this area are so active when it is wet and the trail is slippery, that downpours also increase greatly. For more details please write us to go trekking in Nepal at the best time. Nepal offers some of the best summer treks in Nepal's other areas.

How to get there?

There are three options to start the hike. 1) Start the trek from Phewa Lake near Halanchowk via Kalabang and spend the first night in Bhumdi. 5-6 hours of walking bring you to Panchase Bhanjyang on the second day. There are half a dozen hotels at Bhanjyang and it is 1.5 hours to Panchase Hill from there and just one hotel on the top. The next day after enjoying the sunrise and hot breakfast descending to the Chitre village of Parbat would be best via Pancsila Lake. 2) The second option is to start the hike from Peace Stupa and trek to Panchase via Pumdi Bhumdi. 3) The third option is to ride a local bus or take a taxi to Kande and then Bhadaure and trek to Panchase.

Distance and elevation

Panchase lies at a height ranging from 800 to 2,500 meters above sea level which tells us of its diverse topography. The mountain ranges of Mt Dhaulagiri, Mt Annapurna, Mt Manaslu, and Mt Ganesh can be seen from Panchase, which is the source of Fewa Lake, and rivers like Rati, Jare, Andhi, and Seti. The area lies at a distance of 28 kilometers from Pokhara, making it one of the attractive trekking destinations from the scenic city.  This trek is also a great extension to any of our tours of Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan Jungle Safari Tour.

How long is Panchase Trek?

Normally; Panchase Trek is 2 to 3 days long though it can be extended up to 4 days via Australian Camp and Dhampus.  Our pre-set 3-day itinerary is standard and starts at Pokhara at Phewa Lake. If you would like to customize it please email us.

Panchase Trek – Annapurna’s Hidden Gem

Page Template

Asia , Nepal

easy-treks-in-nepal-panchase

The Panchase Trek is one of Nepal’s hidden gems.

Being in the same region as the Annapurna Circuit ,  Poon Hill trek  and the  Royal Trek , it is often overlooked by hikers.

However, if you don’t have the time to trek these routes, but still want beautiful scenery and mountain peak views, then the Panchase Trek is the perfect option.

Panchase Hike In Nepal

Being only 4 days long, the Panchase trek is great for beginners and will give you a real sense of what it’s like to trek some of the more wilder sections of the  Himalayas .

The Panchase hike only requires moderate fitness and is perfectly trek-able for families and retirees. It’s also one of the easiest treks in Nepal .

Starting at Pokhara, the trek allows you to explore the amazing city and all the wonders it has to offer before leaving. Make sure you have a drink at one of the lakeside cafes! The trek begins in style as you cross the Phewa lake by boat – an experience in itself! The trail takes you past the World Peace Pagoda and then down through some lovely local villages where you can witness the authentic and rustic lifestyle of the local people.

Panchase is actually one of the hill stations in the Annapurna Region and also a religious site for Hindu People. The summit of Panchase Hill (2,500m) is often considered to be the best viewpoint to see Annapurna massif. However, along your trek you’ll also see other giant Himalaya peaks including Dhaulagiri, Lamjung, Machhapuchhre and Manaslu.

Apart from being a great introduction to Nepal trekking for novices, as well as providing an incredible experience for those with less time on their hands, the main drawcard of the Panchase trek is the beauty and diversity of the scenery: one minute there is terraced rice fields lush, the next, lush vegetation and then alpine areas!

We are a family of 5 and this information has been extremely valuable for planning our first trip to Nepal. We are extremely excited about our trip in April and your article and info has got us even more excited about what we know will be the first of many trips.

Many thanks

Terry from Singapore

Hi Terry, glad we could be of help. Hope you have an awesome trip with your family. All the best!

Hi there Thanks for your wonderful and comprehensive overview of the Panchase trek. I am visiting Pokhara in October and would love to do a longer trek but will only be there for around four nights. I also suffer from a recurring knee injury, which generally poses no major problems, but can flare up if I overdo it or with strenuous ascents and particularly descents. It does look lovely but do you think that this trek would be okay for someone like me? I noticed there are a few steep parts. Or is there a way to avoid these bits at all? I’m thinking my other option would be to just do some smaller, less strenuous hikes – eg, drive to Astam and around there and then perhaps on to Dhampus / Australian Camp or something along those lines. Indeed, any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks in advance for any help or advice. Simon

Hi Simon, thanks for getting in touch. The Panchase is relatively straightforward with no major ascents and descents. There are of course ups and downs though, and these could aggravate a knee injury. I would say that in general you should be fine on the Panchase trek, alternatively The Royal Trek ( https://www.mountainiq.com/guides/trekking-in-nepal/routes/royal-trek/ ) is also an option or Poon Hill Trek (although you would probably want to skip the hill climb for the full view of the Annapurnas). Hope this helps.

We will be in Nepal in January and would like to do a short hike – perhaps Panchase. Is it possible to do this hike early January, say 1st or 2nd Jan starting. If not Panchase, can you recommend another short hike of about 4 days duration. Preferably one with not many tourists. Thank you for your help 😉

Hi Maree, yes it is possible to trek in January, although temperatures can be pretty frigid. Here are some short hikes to consider: https://www.mountainiq.com/short-treks-in-nepal/ . The Panchase trek is a good option if you are going to be based in the Annapurna region.

We are a couple looking for a trek. One partner is relatively fit and healthy, the other is fit but less so. We want something to challenge us, thinking also of combining yoga and trekking. What are your thoughts? We are considering the panchasse or the poon hill.

Hi Rakhee, I would recommend the Poon Hill Trek. It is more varied and has amazing views of the Annapurnas.

Hi We are interested in this Panchase trek – do you recommend any local guides? Thanks Jo

Panchase Trek in Nepal: A Complete Travel Guide

Panchase Trek in Nepal: A Complete Travel Guide

What is the panchase trek.

The focal point of the Panchase Trek is reaching Panchase Peak (2,500 metres above sea level) which provides great views of the amazing Annapurnas.

This is a great entry-level hike for the Himalayas as it’s possible to do it quite quickly and without prior acclimatization .

There are several different routes to choose from and therefore also options for everything from spending just a single night to trekking for multiple days . We’ll outline these options further down.

We did a 3 days/2 nights version starting and ending in Pokhara and reaching the peak on the morning of the third day – before a very long walk down.

Where to stay in Pokhara:

  • Luxury: The Pavilions Himalayas – Probably the best place to stay in Pokhara.
  • Value for money: Three Jewels Boutique Hotel – Comfortable rooms at great value.
  • Budget: Sacred Valley Inn – Cheap but without private bathrooms.

Search for the best value accommodation in Pokhara here .

Panchase trekking off the beaten path

Level of fitness required for the panchase trek, our panchase trek itinerary, panchase trek itinerary options, typical prices and budget for the panchase trek, best time to go on the panchase trek, what to bring on the panchase trek, how to book the panchase trek, minimise your impact.

(Don’t trust Google Maps with the exact locations).

Even though the Panchase Trek is one of the few treks that practically starts in the traveler-friendly city of Pokhara, it is relatively unknown compared to classics like Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), Annapurna Circuit and Poon Hill.

We visited Nepal in October (peak tourist season!) and barely met any other trekkers on the trails during our 3-day Panchase Trek.

This was definitely not the case with our Mardi Himal trek, which isn’t even that popular to the three above-mentioned ones.

On our first day, we started a little late and didn’t meet a single tourist before we reached our tea house/homestay in the evening – where we met just one other couple.

Day 2 was the same and here we only met a woman trekking solo.

We did meet a couple of other people in the Panchase Village and on the peak, but not many.

Determining what kind of fitness you need to be able to do a specific hike or trek is always incredibly difficult.

Often it’s not the case of whether or not you’ll be physically able to make it, but rather about how much you’ll enjoy it .

For Nepal, the Panchase Trek is relatively easy because it is so short . You probably won’t build up much fatigue if you do the three-day option as we did.

The Panchase Trek is not a walk in the park. It is by no means suited for the walking impaired.

But if you’re interested in trekking in Nepal, you probably already know this. To our knowledge, no trek in Nepal really fits that description.

It other words, what might be dubbed a “strenuous” hike in a national park in the United States might not even make the “easy” rating in Nepal simply because the audience is so different.

If you’re unsure whether or not you’re fit enough to do the Panchase trek, take the following into account:

  • There is a lot of stair climbing involved.
  • You’ll gain more than 1,700 metres of elevation which you also have to descend again.
  • Walking through the forest can be slippery .
  • You’ll be on your feet for several hours , usually for several days in a row.
  • If you just want to reach the peak, it’s possible to get a jeep to and from the Panchase Village, leaving just about 700 metres of elevation gain and subsequent loss to your legs.

To conclude, we wouldn’t say that the Panchase Trek is neither particularly easy nor family-friendly.

It might be one of the easier hikes in terms of total length and elevation gain/loss near Pokhara, but this doesn’t make it effortless!

Stairs to Kande

World Peace Pagoda

After breakfast in Pokhara, we sailed across Phewa Lake to where we started trekking up to the World Peace Pagoda.

It’s pretty steep going up there, but not too far; we spent about 45 minutes to an hour going up.

The views from the Peace Pagoda are really impressive – especially since this was the first time we saw more than just the top of the peaks of the Annapurna massif.

From the pagoda, it’s a pretty short walk to the restaurant where we ate lunch (aka dal bhat).

The 12 Best Things to Do in Pokhara, Nepal (That Isn’t Trekking)

The walk to Bumdi

The rest of the walk to Bumdi provides scenic views to the Pokhara valley and beautiful rice terraces.

We also walked through many small local villages with curious and playful children.

The walk to Bumdi

Himalayan View Tea House

Arriving in Bumdi (sometimes also spelled Pumdi or Bhumdi), we “checked-in” at Himalayan View Tea House, run by the wonderful couple Myla and Myli.

For 600 Nepalese rupees (~ 5.2 USD / 4.7 EUR), we had a simple but private room with a western toilet and cold shower.

They served up the most delicious dal bhat of our whole trip in the evening including some of the hottest chilli imaginable. Don’t say yes to Myla’s chilli unless your stomach can handle it!

Though we didn’t stay inside their actual home, this is exactly how we pictured a great homestay with lots of laughs and culture exchange.

They were simply so sweet and we loved staying at Himalayan View Tea House.

Himalayan View Tea House in Bumdi

Nasty leeches

Breakfast was served at the roof where we enjoyed porridge, bread, fruit and black tea in the morning sun.

After a bit of climbing, we entered the forest .

On a sunny day after a clear night, walking through the forest would surely have been pretty great.

It had rained during the night though, which meant that there was a lot of leeches …

Leeches aren’t dangerous. They aren’t too painful. They just itch. And they’re nasty!

We battled the leeches all through the forest and honestly would rather have avoided this part of the trip if we could.

Going later in the season (this was early October) would probably mean drier conditions and no leeches.

There are no restaurants between Bumdi and Panchase Village so bring some lunch or snacks for the trip.

From Bumdi into the forest

Panchase Village

Panchase Village has a lot more accommodation options than Bumdi with about six tea houses.

We stayed at Sunset View Point Guesthouse where we got a simple and clean room with electricity and a hot (!) shower for 500 Nepalese rupees (~ 4.4 USD / 3.9 EUR).

Both shower and (squat toilet) was shared.

Once again, the dal bhat was delicious.

There was an actual menu with a few different options here if you fancy trying something else than the Nepali national dish.

The highlight of our trip: Panchase Peak

Our guide Tek woke up at 3 AM and 4 AM to check the weather conditions. Unfortunately, it was too cloudy for a great sunrise view.

We waited until about 10 AM to go to Panchase Peak as the weather had cleared up by then.

The walk up is quite steep but easy in terms of terrain with mostly stairs.

There’s a small temple on top, a “museum” with pictures of local flora and fauna and a restaurant/tea house.

The view to the Annapurnas is, non-surprisingly, amazing.

Ascending lots of stairs to get to Panchase Peak

Down to Kande

After walking back down to Panchase Village and filling up on more dal bhat, we embarked on the journey to Kande.

If you descend from Panchase Peak all the way to Kande in the same day like we did, prepare to be pretty sore the next couple of days!

The trail was a mixture of stairs cutting through the landscape and walking on the side of the dusty road. We barely met any vehicles.

Closer to Kande we started seeing more rice fields and even walked through some very nice villages.

We saw many tropical plants on our way, including coffee, avocado and banana trees.

Saying our goodbyes as we're leaving Panchase Village

Bus to Pokhara

At Kande, we made the last bus back to Pokhara.

While our little group was the only people on the bus at first, it quickly filled up with locals going into the city.

The atmosphere in the bus was eclectic with loud Nepali music and well-dressed people going to/from weddings and parties.

The sun set beautifully behind Panchase while we drove away.

Panchase waterfall

Reversing the trek

Instead of a long walk up and a steep way down, you could reverse our route and start with reaching Panchase Peak before walking to Bumdi and then back to Pokhara.

Extending the trek

While we took the boat from Pokhara across the lake, you can also walk around it for free; cutting a cost and adding a few extra kilometres.

Instead of catching the bus from (or to) Kande, you could probably walk all the way between Kande and Pokhara, but as it’s on a trafficked dirt-road, it might not be that attractive.

From Panchase Peak, it’s also possible to head down the other way and walk towards Panchase Lake.

Extending even further is definitely possible, too. Ask your trekking company or guide.

If you’re trekking alone, it’s important to always let somebody know about your intended itinerary.

Shortening the trek

If you’re really fast and start early, you might be able to skip the stop in Bumdi and trek directly between Pokhara/The Peace Pagoda and Panchase Village.

It will be a long day , but it’s not impossible.

Be aware of going into the forest when it’s getting dark. Finding your way isn’t always very obvious and we were really happy to have a guide that knew the paths.

All of the below prices are for two people.

Boat from Pokhara to World Peace Pagoda : 750 Nepalese rupees including obligatory life vests for 20 rupees per person (~ 6.5 USD / 5.9 EUR).

Lunch : 650 Nepalese rupees (~ 5.7 USD / 5.1 EUR).

Bumdi : Tea house accommodation: 600 Nepalese rupees (~ 5.2 USD / 4.7 EUR).

Dinner, breakfast, tea and boiled water*: 2,200 Nepalese rupees (~ 19 USD / 17 EUR).

*Instead of buying new plastic bottles with water, we bought boiled water, let it cool and refilled our own bottles for the next day of hiking. Better for the environment and cheaper too!

Panchase Village : Tea house accommodation: 500 Nepalese rupees (~ 4.4 USD / 3.9 EUR).

Dinner, lunch, breakfast, tea and boiled water: 2,600 Nepalese rupees (~ 23 USD / 20 EUR).

Bus from Kande to Pokhara : 60 Nepalese rupees per seat (~ 0.5 USD / 0.5 EUR).

Guide : ~ 2,500 Nepalese rupees per day (~ 22 USD / 20 EUR).

Total price for two people doing the Panchase Trek (3 days/2 nights): ~ 15,000 Nepalese rupees (~ 130 USD / 118 EUR).

That’s approximately 2,500 Nepalese rupees (~ 22 USD / 20 EUR) per day per person!

The menu at Sunset View Point Guesthouse

As with most other treks in Nepal, the best time to go is either in autumn or spring.

Autumn (October and November) are ideal as most rains should have stopped by then and the views keep getting better – but it isn’t too cold, yet.

As the elevation for the Panchase Trek isn’t very high, it’s also possible to do it in the colder winter months of December, January and February.

Spring (March to May) would be wonderful with even fewer people than autumn and beautiful flowers all around.

Summer (June to September) can’t be recommended unless you love leeches or plan to not walk through the forest.

We booked our Panchase Trek through Gokul at Summit International Travels & Tours in Thamel, Kathmandu.

He helped us book bus tickets for Pokhara on a nice bus, find accommodation in Pokhara and arranged everything with our wonderful guide, Mr. Tek .

We’re sure that Gokul’s other guides are great as well, but we can definitely recommend asking specifically for Tek if you want a guide who is relaxing to be around, funny, professional and generally amazing.

Panchase Trek 3 days package itinerary

Panchase Trek is not just a journey; it’s an immersive odyssey through the heart of rural Nepal, a symphony of nature, culture, and spirituality interwoven into a tapestry that captivates the soul. Over three days, this expedition unveils the breathtaking beauty of the Annapurna Himalayan Range , leaving indelible imprints on the minds of those fortunate enough to tread its trails.

Profound Origins and Spiritual Significance:

The very essence of Panchase Danda lies in its name – a nod to the five divine seats embodying the feminine principle in ancient Asana yoga. These sacred enclaves, resonating with spiritual energy, hold significance for Hindus and Buddhists alike. Panchase is more than a trek; it’s a pilgrimage to a revered meditation ground, a sanctuary for those seeking connection with the divine.

Floral Symphony and Ethnic Marvels:

As trekkers traverse the undulating paths of Panchase Danda, they find themselves enchanted by the lush green forests that cloak the area. This harmonious ecosystem hosts diverse flora and fauna, creating a living symphony of life. The trek winds through traditional Gurung and Brahman villages, each serving as a living testament to the region’s rich cultural tapestry. Vibrant traditions and warm hospitality await trekkers at every step, offering a glimpse into the heart of mountain communities.

Diverse Tapestry of Panchase Villages:

Kalabang, Chitre, Bhadaure, Deurali, Talibarang, Arthare, and Sidhane – these names resonate with a collective population of around 70,000, forming the vibrant mosaic of Panchase’s allure. Homestay accommodations in these villages open doors to an intimate experience of local life. To truly immerse yourself, arriving before sunset and notifying hosts in advance is not just a suggestion but a key to unlocking the genuine hospitality of these communities.

Topographical Kaleidoscope and Cultural Abundance:

Panchase trek is not merely about the people but also about the landscape it cradles. The region boasts diverse species of birds, animals, butterflies, and an array of flora that transforms the trek into a sensory feast. Endangered herbs and herbal medicine find a haven here, while the verdant landscape is shared by elusive creatures such as tigers, bears, and deer. The coexistence of culture and nature paints Panchase as a canvas where every step tells a story.

Panoramic Vistas and Spiritual Haven:

The pinnacle of the trek is Panchase Danda, standing majestically at an elevation of 2500 meters. From this vantage point, the snow-capped peaks of the Annapurna Massif, Lamjung Himal, Machhapuchhree (fishtail), and Manaslu Himal ranges  create a panorama that transcends description. It’s a visual symphony that resonates with spiritual seekers and nature enthusiasts alike.

While in the region, trekkers can explore the World Peace Pagoda, a magnificent Buddhist monument perched atop a hill overlooking Fewa Lake. Accessible through a serene combination of boating and trekking, this haven radiates tranquility, offering a respite for the soul amidst the grandeur of nature.

Quaint Accommodations and Immersive Experience:

Accommodations along the Panchase trek trail are more than just places to rest; they are gateways to the heart of local communities. Bhumdi Guest House in Pundi Bhumdi and Open-Heart Guest House at Panchase Danda , though basic, provide an authentic experience of the unique lifestyle in these mountain villages. Staying true to the spirit of the trek, these accommodations enhance the overall journey, making it not just about the destination but the entire immersive experience.

Time-Efficient Adventure and Alternatives:

For those with time constraints or a preference for a less strenuous option than the more popular Ghorepani Poon Hill or Annapurna Sanctuary trek, the Panchase Trek emerges as the perfect compromise. It doesn’t compromise on the essence of adventure while providing a fulfilling experience of the Himalayan beauty. As an alternative, the Royal Trek and Sikles Village Kori Trek beckons with equally rewarding and captivating experiences, ensuring that the adventurous spirit finds its path in Nepal.

Unforgettable Memories and Expert Guidance:

Joining the Panchase Trek package is not just a physical journey; it’s an invitation to let the mountains and charming villages of Nepal etch memories that linger a lifetime. The journey is not without challenges, but expert guides stand ready to ensure safety and comfort throughout. The expedition commences from your Pokhara hotel, a testament to the seamless planning that goes into crafting an unforgettable experience.

Pokhara to Panchase Distance:

The logistics of the Panchase trek are as intriguing as the journey itself. The direct distance from Pokhara to Panchase, a mere 30 kilometers (18.6 miles), belies the intricacies of the trekking route. The undulating nature of the trail, coupled with elevation changes, elongates the actual trekking distance. While the trek spans two days with overnight stays at Bhumdi Guest House and Open Heart Guest House, the total distance typically falls within 40-45 kilometers (25-28 miles).

It’s crucial to note that these figures are estimations, subject to variables like the specific route chosen, any side trips taken, and the individual’s hiking pace. The trek isn’t just about covering ground; it’s about navigating the nuances of nature’s terrain and understanding the ebb and flow of the landscape that unfolds with every step.

In conclusion, the Panchase Trek is more than a checklist item for avid trekkers; it’s an odyssey into the heart of Nepal’s natural and cultural heritage. Every step is a story, every vista a painting, and every village a chapter in the tale of Panchase. As you lace up your boots and set forth on this journey, be prepared to not just witness but to be a part of the living narrative that is Panchase.

Beautiful Nepal Panchase trek

Panchase Trek was a wonderful experience for us. Bam, our porter guide from Nepal Wilderness Trekking, was very helpful and took very good care of us. The Panchase Trek is highly recommended – stunning views, quiet villages, very few other trekkers. You could also walk through incredible Rhododendron forests in April as well, either in autumn or winter.

Panchase Trek

The Panchase trek, in comparison to Annapurna Base Camp Trek or Annapurna Circuit Trek , is a relatively easy trek. Besides breathtaking panoramas and engaging cultural encounters, the trek is perfect for anyone who loves to wander off-the-beaten-path. The trail is ideal autumn through spring; i.e. October, November, December, January, February, March & April. But, the trek isn’t ideal in summer or pre-autumn months as the region one of the wettest in Nepal.

The Panchase trek region is mostly inhabited by the Gurung people with a minor mix of Magar, Brahmin and other ethnicities. The main highlight of Panchase trek is the sunrise view of Machhapuchhre, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Lamjung and Manaslu from Panchase Peak (2,500m).

The trek starts from Pokhara. We can either drive to the village Bhumdi or hike via the World Peace Stupa trail. Following the age-old trail, we hike through a forest to Panchase Bhanjyang (4hrs), a small village of mixed ethnicities. Next morning, we climb Panchase Peak for a magnificent sunrise view and then descend to Bhadaure  (3-4 hrs). Finally, the trek ends at Naudanda (2 hrs) from where we drive back to Pokhara (1-2hrs).

The Panchase Peak Trek is a good alternative to popular treks like ABC or Poon Hill . The mountains are a bit further but just as beautiful. The viewpoints, beautiful forest trails and cultural encounters are as interesting. This trek is also a great alternative to Nagarkot trek in Kathmandu. The views are much better; terraced farmlands and rhododendron bloom (in March only) while we stay overnight in quiet homestays.

Our 4-day Panchase trek itinerary is a suitable short trek for beginners or anyone with limited time in Nepal.

Trip Highlights

  • Short and easy trek for beginners
  • Alternating landscapes: plains, paddy fields, forests and valleys
  • View of high peaks (Annapunra range, Dhaulagiri, Machapuchhre, Lamjung Himal, Hiuchuli and Manaslu) and the Pokhara valley down below
  • Visit the small ethnic Gurung, Magar and Brahmin village
  • Excellent for birdwatching communities

Panchase Trek 2 Days

Panchase Trek 2 Days

  • Trip Overview

Panchase Trek is one of the famous short treks in Nepal that takes you to the outskirts of Pokhara. This trek is a superb introduction to the pleasures of spectacular Himalayan views. This trek follows trails along the undulating low altitude mountains passing traditional villages and beautifully terraced fields.

Indeed Panchase trek is a great entry-level hike for the Himalayan Vista. The steady, relaxing, and easy-going trek will not require that you take time out to acclimatize either. This trek is suitable for all age groups and beginners.

Panchase Trek is yet another one of Nepal’s hidden cultural and natural gems. The trek is located in the same region as the popular Annapurna Circuit Trek and Annapurna Base Camp Trek  and is often overlooked by hikers. It is a small trek ideal for experiencing beautiful natural scenery and mountain peak views within a short amount of time. The Panchase Trek is a great trek for families and beginners and offers some of the best viewpoints to see the Annapurna range as well as other mountain peaks including Dhaulagiri (8167 m) , Lamjung Himal (6983 m), and Machhapuchhre (6993 m). Apart from being a great introduction to trekking in the Himalayas and offering a great experience for those with a short amount of time available, it provides amazing diversity and beauty in the scenery as the trek goes through lush rice fields, lavish vegetation, and local Gurung communities and villages.

The Panchase Trek sets off with a boat trip across the beautiful Phewa Lake to our starting point. We will climb through a lush forest before reaching the stairs that lead up to the famous Buddhist World Peace Pagoda. 80 World Peace Pagodas have been built around the world in an attempt to promote world peace. The pagoda itself is a remarkable sight; however, it also offers breathtaking views of Phewa Lake and the city of Pokhara. We continue our trek down through a little forest before ascending again to reach Bumdi, our destination for the day. The trail leads us through a beautiful forest with great opportunities to see some of the wildlife of the area, such as a vast amount of rare birds and monkeys as well! We continue the trek, passing some great panoramic viewpoints before arriving at Bhanjyang. On our third day, we will reach the summit of Panchase Hill (2500 m), which is the highest point of our trek. Apart from the awe-inspiring view from Panchase Hill , it is also one of the best places to witness the sunrise as it bathes the mighty mountain peaks in golden sunlight in a truly remarkable sight! Continuing down through the village of Alldanda, we will follow the trail to Bhadaure. On our last day, we will follow a trail winding its way down through local villages and across streams before finally reaching our destination of Naudanada, from where we will get transport back to Pokhara.

Likewise, if your time frame permits, then we highly recommend visiting the most beautiful community lodge trek, the  Mohare Danda Trek , and the classic Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek . For more details, please do not hesitate to contact the local experts.

PANCHASE TREK Itinerary in detail

Panchase trek is one of the most beautiful and easy trek in Nepal. Here is the day-to-day detail itinerary for 2 Nights 3 days Panchase trek from Pokhara:

Day 1 Pokhara to Australian Base Camp

Early morning, we will pick you up at 8am from lakeside Pokhara and drive to Kande. We suggest you to have your breakfast before 8am. The drive takes less than 1 hr. We begin our trek from Kande; the trail is uphill all the way to Australian Camp. You can enjoy the majestic views of Annapurna ranges, Macchapuchre, Hiunchuli, Dhaulagiri and Lamjung Himal from the Australian camp. After eating warm lunch at the Camp you will trek down to Dhampus. Dhampus is a scenic village inhabited by Magar and Gurung communities. Spending sometime in Dhampus, we trek further down to Phedi and then finally drive back to Pokhara.

Accommodation

Tourist Hotel

Day 2 Australian Base camp to Panchase Bhanjyang

Early morning watch sunrise and mountain views over warm breakfast. Thereafter we will trek down to Kande and continue uphill walk to Bhadaure for two and half hours where warm lunch will be served. The trail goes through forest with backdrop of Annapurna mountain range.

After lunch we continue our uphill trek to Panchase Bhanjyang which also takes about two and half hours. Panchase Bhanjyang offers you a taste of rural Nepali lifestyle and great mountain views.

Note: If you still have energy, you can trek to Panchase hill to watch widest mountain views starting from Dhaulagiri to Langtang. Morning sunrise and sunset viewing is not recommended due to poor trail condition. Headlamp is highly recommended during the trek. Dinner will be served at your guesthouse/hotel.

Mountain lodge

Day 3 Panchase Bhanjyang to Pokhara

After breakfast at 8 am, we will start our downhill trek to Ghatichinna for around 3 hrs. The trail passes through forest patches with a possibility of encountering wildlife and birds. During September to November, the marihuana plant can be seen in full bloom. This trek is not considered ideal in monsoon season due to the risk of leeches and impenetrable undergrowth. After arriving in Ghatichinna, we will ride back to Pokhara.

Here are some important information about this trip.

About Panchase Trek

Panchase trek is an off the beaten path 3-day hike through the rural areas and lush green forest in the Annapurna region. It is a moderately difficult trek with the highest point at 2500m which means no prior acclimatization is needed. The focal point of the Panchase Trek is reaching Panchase Peak (2,500 metres above sea level) which provides great views of the amazing Annapurnas.

This is a great entry-level hike for the Himalayas as it’s possible to do it quite quickly and without prior acclimatization.

Different Route for Panchase trek.

Panchase trek is a short trek from Pokhara . It is beautiful and easily accessible from Pokhara. There are different routes for this panchase trek and they are:

  •  Starting in Pokhara and end at kande-
  • Sarting at kande and end at Pohara
  • Starting and ending at Kande
  • Starting at Kande and end at Ghatichina;
  • Starting from Baskota and end at Ghatichina.

Distance and elevation of Panchase trek.

Panchase lies at a height ranging from 800 to 2,500 meters above the sea level which tells us of its diverse topography. The mountain ranges of Mt Dhaulagiri, Mt Annapurna, Mt Manaslu and Mt Ganesh can be seen from Panchase, which is the source of Fewa lake, and rivers like Rati, Jare, Andhi and Seti. The area lies at a distance of 28 kilometers from Pokhara, making it one of the attractive trekking destinations from the scenic city.

Accommodation and food in Panchase trek>

The accommodation in this route is quite basic compared to other popular trekking trail such as Ghorepani Poon Hill or Annapurna Circuit in Annapurna. Local people run home stay services at Kalabang and Pumdi villages offering staying in local home. For those; who loves experiencing local culture and don’t mind going through basic facilities then it is firsthand opportunity to discover the locals and their life style. The food is usually rice, potatoes, noodles, eggs, momo, chapati etc and tea, coffee for table drinks. Dal Bhaat (a Nepalese set meal comes with boiled rice, lentil soup, fried/cooked vegetable and pickle) is served in home stays. For beverages and bar, there are cold drinks, beer, distillery drinks and Raksi (local wine).

How difficult is Panchase trek?

Panchase is not the most difficult trek in Annapurna region, the highest point of this trek is 2500m.It has many step ascents and descents on the route and the remoteness of the area.

Guided or independent trek

The main difficulty of the Panchase trek is poor route marking – a guide here might be quite helpful but with Map and you didn’t have any problem of finding the right way.

Best time for Panchase trek

Autumn (October and November) are ideal as most rains should have stopped by then and the views keep getting better – but it isn’t too cold, yet.

As the elevation for the Panchase Trek isn’t very high, it’s also possible to do it in the colder winter months of December, January and February.

Spring (March to May) would be wonderful with even fewer people than autumn and beautiful flowers all around.

Went on the 3D2N Panchase trekking experience. Must really give our heartfelt thanks to our knowledgeable guide (Ram) and our porter (Nur) for making the trek fun and informative. Learn alot about the Nepalese culture during the trek from conversing with Ram. The service they provide is impeccable, always checking on our condition, personally serving us food, and ensuring all necessary logistics are taken care of. Would surely recommend this beginner trek (no prior experience and training needed) to anyone who loves walking through serene, untouched forest and picturesque villages, enjoys the peace of the countryside and meeting friendly locals along the way~ SOURCE | TRIPADVISOR

On the first day of the trip, you will go to Pokhara from Kathmandu. There are two options to reach Pokhara: drive or take a flight. You can reach Pokhara in 7-8 hours by car and 45 minutes by flight. A drive is a better idea than a flight to see the picturesque scenery of rivers, forests, settlements, and mountains up close.

Pokhara is a beautiful tourist town situated on the banks of Phewa Lake . It is also the gateway to the Annapurna region. Spend the evening exploring the beautiful lakeside. There are many famous places to visit in Pokhara, such as World Peace Pagoda , Davis Falls , International Mountain Museum , etc. You can also find many bars and restaurants that offer live music and entertainment in the evenings. You can enjoy some local music and dance performances along with your favorite drink.

The next morning, after breakfast, you will drive to Khare Khola. Khare Khola is the starting point for trekking. From Khare Khola, you will start walking towards Bhumdi Village . Sunrise view from Panchase Hill

On the third day of the trip, you will trek from Bhumdi to Panchase Bhanjyang . Panchase Bhanjyang is also the highest point of the trek. You will continue walking up green hills through lush forests of rhododendrons . The trail is somewhat steep and challenging, but the view from the top makes it all worth it. Panchase Bhanjang offers a beautiful view of the snow-capped mountains as well as P okhara Valley .

On the morning of the fourth day of the trek, you will make a short climb to Panchase Hill for sunrise views. Panchse Hill is a viewpoint from which you can get the best view of the breathtaking sunrise. You can also enjoy stunning views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu from here. If you are into professional photography, then this might be an ideal place for you.

After some time, you will have breakfast and walk from Panchase to Bhadaure. The trail takes you through local traditional villages and terraced farmlands. After 5–6 hours of trekking, you will reach Bhadaure, a small village in a beautiful valley. Bhadaure village is known for its traditional architecture and warm hospitality.

On the fifth day, you will walk from Bhadaure to Naudanda. Naudanda is a small village situated on the top of a hill. You can reach this village in a 4-5-hour trek through lush green forests and traditional villages. The trekking trail descends through several villages and joins the road at Naudanda. From there, you will drive back to Pokhara. You can spend the rest of the day exploring the city.

Return to Kathmandu

The sixth day is the final day of your entire trip. On this day, you will return to Kathmandu after breakfast. Even when returning, you have the option of either driving or flying. After reaching Kathmandu, your short and enjoyable six-day trekking trip will end.

Although you can find simple hotels, guest houses, and teahouses on these routes. Teahouses are popular among trekkers for food and accommodation on Nepal’s trekking trails.

Teahouses are like simple guesthouses that provide food and accommodation to trekkers. These teahouses are basic but comfortable. Teahouses usually provide basic amenities, such as beds, pillows, blankets, and shared bathrooms. Some teahouses also offer hot showers at an extra cost.

The best seasons for Panchase Trek in Nepal

The best seasons for Panchase trekking are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). The weather and temperature are favorable during these seasons, which attracts many t rekking lovers . The weather is neither too hot nor too cold, and the chances of snowfall and rain are also low.

In spring, the sky is clear, and the views of the Himalayas are stunning. Now that the rhododendron forests are in full bloom, the trails look beautiful.  This is also the busiest time for trekking in Nepal, so the trails are often crowded. Autumn is also the best time for Panchase Trek . During this time, the sky is clear, and the temperature is mild. Autumn is less crowded than spring, which is ideal for those who prefer a quieter trek.

The winter (December to February) and monsoon (June to August) seasons are not recommended for Nepal trekking . During the winter season, it is colder, due to which there is a possibility of snowfall. And there is a possibility of rain throughout the monsoon season. So, it is important to note that winter and monsoon seasons can be challenging for trekking in Nepal .’

The Panchase Trek is an easy-moderate trek, though it may be a bit difficult for beginners. The highest point of this trek is Panchase Hill , which is 2,500 meters above sea level.  Since it is not at high altitudes, the chances of altitude sickness are also lower. Although it is not very high, some hikers may get altitude sickness . So, it is important to take proper precautions, like climbing slowly and staying hydrated.

There are some uphill climbs, so fitness is important. If you can walk for 4 to 5 hours per day and have good fitness, then you can complete this trek. It is better to prepare for trekking before trekking. Activities like running, swimming, and cycling help increase stamina.

Permits for Panchase Trek in Nepal

You need to get two main permits for the Panchase trek in Nepal .

Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) :

Panchase Trek is located within the Annapurna Conservation Area. So, this permit is mandatory for all hikers entering this area. You can get an ACAP permit from the Nepal Tourism Board office in Kathmandu or Pokhara. It costs Rs. 3000 per person for foreigners and Rs. 1000 for citizens of SAARC countries .

Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) :

You need a TIMS card for the Panchase trek. This permit helps keep a record of trekkers and ensures their safety. You can get a TIMS card from the Trekking Agency Association of Nepal (TAAN) . It costs Rs. 2000 per person for foreigners and Rs. 1000 for citizens of SAARC countries.

It is important to note that trekking in Nepal without a guide or trekking company is prohibited. These permits are issued by the government of Nepal only in the name of trekking companies. So, to get the permits, you need to choose the best trekking company for the Panchase trek. The trekking company you choose will handle all the permit procedures for you.

Security During Panchase Trek in Nepal

Trekking in Nepal is an exciting and unforgettable experience, but ensuring safety is important. It is important to pay attention to some things for safe trekking. For safe trekking, choose a reputable company that provides various safety measures.

Reputable companies can create a program considering the route, elevation, and weather conditions. They have licensed and experienced guides who are familiar with the routes of the trekking area. They also help you in an emergency. Trekking companies provide you with first-aid kits and quality trekking equipment.

Guides, porters, and luggage for Panchase Trek

Choose a good trekking agency that can provide you with experienced trekking guides. It is also important to ensure that the guide is licensed. Guides are locals in the trekking area who know the trail better than others. They can also provide good information about local culture, customs, and festivals. Guides arrange accommodation and meals as well as provide security on the trail.

You may also need porters to carry your luggage during trekking. Porters carry heavy gear like tents, sleeping bags, food, and trekking equipment. This will lighten your load and make the trek easier and more enjoyable. According to the rules of Nepal, a porter can carry a maximum weight of 20 kg during the trek. If your luggage is more than 20 kg, you can hire extra porters.

Altitude sickness and acclimatization

Altitude sickness is common when trekking in high mountains . This is a serious condition that can affect hikers. Generally, going above 2,500 meters can lead to the risk of altitude sickness. But the maximum altitude of the Panchase Trek is 2,500 meters, so there is less chance of altitude sickness.

However, it is important to take the necessary precautions to avoid altitude sickness. Acclimatization days are not necessary for the Panchase trek, but it is important to ascend slowly and stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol and caffeine to stay hydrated at altitude.

Elisabeth Meusy

Thank you a lot for your organization about my trek. It was a superb experience; all was perfect. Karma is a very nice person and a good guide. I appreciated trekking with Odyssey (a reliable Nepal trek operator). If I come back to Nepal, I will be happy to ask you to trek with me again. I am thinking about Annapurna or the Everest trek.

*****(5 star)

Have just returned from my fourth trip to Nepal and as always Odyssey Treks organized everything superbly. We visited Makalu relatively late in the season and were rewarded with empty trails and amazing weather. Karma was as entertaining, friendly, and informative as ever along with Ang Dawa Sherpa who together made the three weeks perfect.

They also organized a few days to Helambu at short notice as I had some time spare, all done easily and professionally. Thanks for the company both and I will be back again. I cannot recommend Odyssey highly enough as a genuinely friendly, locally based company that provides not only unforgettable experiences but also great service at a very reasonable cost.

Certainly one of the shortest and cheapest two-day trips in Pokhara, the Panchase trek is a quick and easy trek. This trek starts and ends in Pokhara. It takes us to an elevation of up to 2500m above sea level, which is quite a comfortable height. The trek offers some splendid views of mountains like Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Ganesh, and Machhapuchhre, among others. Panchase trek also allows you to explore villages and know about the local culture and traditions. This is a family trip, as it’s easy and convenient to walk. Moreover, our experienced guides will watch over your children, should you bring them.

Close to Pokhara Valley yet Far from it

You start your trek at Kande from where you walk uphill to Panchase Bhanjyang. It takes about 5 hours of hiking to reach there.

Upon arriving, you’ll stay in a hotel and explore the village in the evening. On the next day, you’ll see the spectacular sunrise from the top, i.e. Panchase.

Panchase trek is a perfect way to explore the area surrounding Pokhara for those that are short on time or only started trekking recently. It merely takes two days to complete this trek. Furthermore, you will not miss out on superb scenery as you will be continuously greeted with beautiful views of the mountains and Pokhara valley.

Likewise, one can opt to explore the valley. The valley offers varieties of attraction sites such as Phewa Lake, Peace Pagoda, Sarangkot, etc

How difficult is this Trek?

This is one of the easiest short treks accessible to all age groups. The highest point of the trek is Panchase hill which acts as a vacation spot for families. The enchanting view of the Annapurna range and the family-friendly environment has made it one of the most loved short treks in Nepal.

The flora and fauna along the trekking trails and the beautiful breathtaking view of landscapes have added more to its charm.

Enjoy the Retreat at the Best Price

While the Panchase trek is an easy and shortest trek near Pokhara, most backpackers are not aware of it. So, it also facilitates hiking in privacy and without disturbance. Panchase trek costs may vary as per the agencies.

However, we provide Panchase Trek all round year and at an affordable price. We can also tailor this trip according to your needs and requirements. Moreover, you can extend this trip by combining it with other treks like   the Australian camp Day Hike.

Panchase Trek: A short and Sweet Trek From Pokhara Company Reviews

Discovery world trekking, amazing scenery.

I would thoroughly recommend this trek for anyone who goes to Nepal and wants to get a flavour for the scenery. It’s especially ideal if you’re limited for time (as my partner and I were) So on this occasion the trek was led by a friendly young man called Yagya. It became apparent to both myself and my parter Vicky that Yagya was exceedingly familiar with the localities having spent much of his childhood there. He was full of enthusiasm and keen to share his knowledge of the area, and the history. The views were breathtaking throughout, taking us through forest areas, grasslands and a small number of villages where we stopped for food and supplies. These were frequent enough for us to have chance to stock for water, meals and snacks. The trek has clearly been well thought out. Yagya was an excellent guide who clearly knew his way around without needing to rely on any navigation or map reading at any point. He kept us to a good pace whilst also allowing us more time to take photos on the second day as we descended. During the 2 days we were captivated by Yagya’s stories and the local religious beliefs. Yagya was also keen to hear about our take on spiritualism and this offered some brief deep yet memorable conversations on the second day. The journey ended with a meal in a restaurant in Pokhara where the food was excellent and the perfect way to end the afternoon/evening. Overall we can’t thank Yagya enough for the journey he took us on. A real memorable experience.

Panchase Trekking – 3 Days

3 Days Panchase Trekking Facts

Panchase Trekking will be perfect for hikers of any skill level who have limited time and want to try something new. In addition to being a sacred pilgrimage site, the entire summit of the Panchase hill is where Lord Shiva once meditated.

Due to its religious importance, the devotees regard this region as one of the holiest shrines to visit during the Bala Chaturdashi festival in December and the Shiva Ratri festival (full moon in March). To conserve the primary food source and show respect for the souls of the departed, many believers scatter the five grains around Panchase Lake.

The Panchase Trekking is a quick, beautiful, and expansive route that starts in Pokhara. The holy pilgrimage route is most likely abundant in traditional culture and offers breathtaking vistas of snow-covered mountain peaks. The trek offers stunning vistas of Mt. Fishtail, Annapurna South, Annapurna II, III, Lamjung Himal, Manaslu Ganesh Himal, and other nearby peaks. Trekking along this simple trail is a genuinely memorable experience thanks to the local culture and way of life of the hill people.

During your Panchase Trekking, one can travel through some of the most magnificent views of the region. Moreover, it is one of the easiest hill trek near Pokhara Valley. Almost anyone can complete the journey. Moreover, during the Panchase trek, you will visit Pumdi Bumdi, Panchase Bhanjyang, and the famous Panchase Hill. These places will offer you stunning views of the surroundings.  Panchase Trekking is one of the best short treks in Nepal.

Panchase Trek Cost

The Panchase Trekking is perfect for those with limited time and is also budget-friendly. It is a short trek from Pokhara. The average cost for the package ranges from USD 400 to USD 1000. Various factors, such as Panchase Trek itinerary, season, duration, services, etc, can influence the cost.

Nepal Alternative Treks’ Panchase Trek covers airport transfer, accommodation, meals, overland transportation, permits, guide fees, and porter fees. The package does not cover visa fees, travel insurance, accommodation/ meals in Kathmandu, drinks and beverages, and tips for guides and porters.

  • 3-day private, fully guided trek to Panchase Hill tour.
  • A short trek that is perfectly suitable for families with kids.
  • Witness the stunning Himalayan peaks, such as Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, Dhaulagiri, Lamjung, and others.
  • Traverse through the dense forests of rhododendrons, oaks, and firs.
  • Enjoy the diverse flora and fauna of the Annapurna region.
  • See the breathtaking sunrise from Panchase Hill.
  • Experience the rich culture and traditions of diverse ethnic communities.

Is Panchase Trek Difficult?

The Panchase Hill Trek is an easy trek suitable for beginners and families with small children. Any trekkers with good physical fitness can participate in the trek. The trail requires ascending and descending on varied terrains, including steep and narrow paths. However, compared to other short treks in the Annapurna region, such as Annapurna Base Camp, Ghorepani Poon Hill, Australian Camp, etc., the Panchase Trek is easy.

The highest altitude trekkers will reach is at Panchase Hill at 2,500 meters above sea level. Therefore, there is minimal risk of altitude sickness. The average daily walking hours during the trek is 5 to 6 hours. It can be demanding for beginners and children, but with adequate physical training, the Panchase Trek is suitable for all trekkers.

Best Season For Panchase Trek

The best season for Panchase Trek is spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These two seasons offer the best weather for a comfortable and pleasant trekking experience. Similarly, the vegetation is lush and thriving, while the landscape is vibrant. The days are sunny and bright but not too hot or too cold. In spring, the whole forest of rhododendrons blooms in different shades of red, pink, and white. Meanwhile, autumn’s colorful foliage adds to the vibrancy of the entire trekking trail.

There is less precipitation level during spring and autumn. Hence, the trails are dry and in good condition for trekking. The average temperature during these two seasons ranges between 0°C to 25°C. Similarly, trekkers can enjoy crystal clear views of the mountain vistas and surroundings without much obstruction. Some of the biggest Nepalese festivals also fall in spring and autumn. So, these two seasons are the best time to trek, as trekkers can enjoy the festive atmosphere during the Panchase Trek.

The journey takes 5 to 6 hours, and the trail goes through subtropical luscious forests. You will pass several Gurung and Magar settlements, terraced fields, and small streams along the way.

Altitude Sickness During Panchase Trek

The risk of altitude sickness begins after trekkers ascend to higher elevations above 2,500 meters. The decreasing level of oxygen makes breathing harder. Hence, trekkers can experience various symptoms of altitude-related sickness.

Panchase Hill is the trek’s highest point. It sits at an altitude of 2,500 meters. Although there is minimal risk of altitude sickness, trekkers must take proper precautions. Some of the prevention methods include:

  • Gradual ascension to higher altitude.
  • Allow your body to acclimatize and adapt to the growing altitude.
  • Stay hydrated and rest properly.
  • Avoid heavy workouts during the trek.
  • Eat a healthy diet.
  • Avoid excessive consumption of caffeine, alcohol, and smoking tobacco.

Flexible local company

Great locally based company. Flexible and able to cater for couples through to larger groups. Have used them for Annapurna and for Everest/Gokyo lakes treks as well as around Kathmandu. Will even sort out Kathmandu hotels and airport pick up etc as well as cultural tours

Great organisation and network in Nepal

Jagat and his team were top notch with organising our trek, transfers and accommodation both in Kathmandu and on the Everest trek. Our guide Gopi and porters were excellent especially when I had to come down early due to altitude sickness. My other two friends are still up there doing the Island Peak climb. Jagat has a strong network in both Kathmandu and on the Everest trail so things can be organised easily. I strongly recommend you use Independent Trekking Guide Cooperative

Family trek with small children in Langtang valley

We spent a week in the Langtang valley with Chet and his team. We did a 7-day trek with our 3 children aged 6, 4 and 1 years old. Everything went very smoothly thanks to the professionalism of the team. Chet and Jagat welcomed us at the airport and took care of us up until the very last day. The tea houses along the trek were carefully selected with good food and no food poisoning. Chet has been a very kind, attentive guide. The 2 porters were also incredibly kind and helpful. The children loved it! We will certainly use this organisation when we go back next time.

BADASS !! Manaslu Circuit 2023

My friend and I’s first time in this wildly beautiful country was made into the most incredible experience by the people at Independent Trekking Guides Co-op. From the first few emails to arriving in Kathmandu, all along the journey until our parting we were taken care of in all ways and beyond. The organization, communication, attentiveness, and flexibility were top notch. Seamless from the very beginning, even when plans change, inevitably. Perhaps most importantly they possess a kindness and presence that is uniquely Nepali and brought a depth and sweetness to our experience that is hard to put into words. Thank you Gopi, our guide, for bringing us through the mountains and for your immense knowledge, humour, heart and focus over the 2 weeks we spent together, suffering and triumphing moment to moment. Chandra, our porter, thank you for your warmth, your spirit, and absolute beast mode strength that I will revere and talk about as long as I live. Gopi and Chandra enriched our experience and perspective of Nepal and it’s people, landscapes and ways that are entirely unique and both astounding and inspiring. We very much became a unit together in our own way and worked together till the very end. I will never forget coming down off the Larkya La pass and sledding down the snow together (trying not to fly off the side) after a gruelling journey and the bliss that brought us to laugh and be silly. Jagat, thank you for your commitment to excellence in providing people from around the world with such an immensely wonderful experience of your country and to your own people through the same love and care you pour into your community. I absolutely cannot recommend Independent Trekking Guides Co-op of Nepal more… they are it and they are doing it right. The value, depth, connection to the culture and land, and commitment to safety and experience is unlike any other tour company out there. Time in Nepal changes your life in many subtle and huge ways, some that I have yet to know or understand myself and I look forward to coming back for more, and I will be journeying with none other than these guys. Much love to Jagat, Gopi and Chandra, and everyone else we encountered along the way. Till next time. - Laura & Abbie

We had a blast! Guides were so caring and hospitable! They worked very hard to ensure we have a great experience in Kathmandu and on the trek. Would love to go on another adventure with them!

Best team I have seen

This is my fourth expedition with Independent Trekking Guides, and each one gets better! Our team of 20 travelled the Tamang Heritage Trek as well as the Langtang trek, climbing Yala Peak as the high point. Chet was our lead guide, and was exceptional. No food/water-born illnesses on the trek, which is a credit to the attention to detail that the ITG cooks paid to each meal. At base camp, incredible energy was put into chopping ice and melting it for drinking and cooking. The cooks created amazing meals at our high camp as well. The ITG staff is the most friendly, considerate, and knowledgeable team I have seen in Nepal. Highly recommend

Excellent guide service!

Jagat and his team were amazing to work with. This was the second trek that I've been on with them, and I can't say enough good about the experience. If you are planning a trek in Nepal, I would definitely recommend this outfit. Very professional and friendly. Previously we used them as a guide service for the Poon Hill trek. This year we did the Helambu trek. We booked the Helambu trek several months in advance, but the week of the trek the area received significant snowfall. The guides safely led our party through the trek with no injuries. We also had a wonderful Jeep tour on the way back to Kathmandu. It was a great experience working with them!

jimjohnston577,

Highly recommend.

People heading to trek in Nepal typically do so to see and experience the magnificent mountains. Many. However, end up discovering Nepal’s greater gem – her people. Their warmth, hospitality and cheerful smiles are unmatched anywhere in the world, in my opinion. And Jagat Lama and his team at Nepal Independent Trekking Guides exemplifies this like no other. Of the 13 trips I have made to Nepal so far, I’ve spent time on 11 of them with Jagat, Chet, Chandra and many others within the cooperative. I consider them among my most cherished friends. As far as leading treks, I wholeheartedly endorse them. They are masters of organization and maintain an unparalleled network of porters and guides. Your safety is their prime concern. They offer flexibility and freedom you won’t find in many, if any, other Nepali outfitters. You’ll never be herded like cattle on tight schedules, forced to push ahead at a pace you’re not comfortable with. They know exactly how to make your trek as outstanding as it can possible be – perfect for you and your companions. They will open a window for you into the most wonderful people, sights, tastes and experiences authentic Nepal has to offer. I highly recommend them.

A very different trekking company

Even though I never had the great pleasure of trekking with Jagat Lama or any other of his team, I know some friends who have and were utterly pleased. I met Jagat Lama 9 years ago or so and try to see him every time I come to Nepal which is almost every year. He's always been of great service for anything I needed his help or advice for, took time off his over busy schedule with a smile, and is just a delightful person to be with, speaking excellent English, being always polite, kind and cheerful. 2 years ago he helped organise a trek to Mustang for my son and myself. By the way, Jagat Lama has started out as a porter at a very young age and this is probably the toughest job in the world, having to carry weights sometimes up to 80 kgs, having to deal with high altitude, bitter cold and fatigue, eating poorly in order to save money for their families, getting very low salaries ; such is the tough life of a porter. But Jagat Lama had great vision and talent. So after many years of extremely hard work and thanks to his capacity of having learned English so quickly , Jagat Lama then became a guide taking groups or individual clients all over Nepal. His kindness and proficiency earned him a lot of sympathy and faithful clients coming back year after year. But having experienced himself the hardships as a porter, who very often are ruthlessly exploited demanding them to carry maximum weight, Jagat one day decided that this was enough. He thus created his own Trekking Guide Cooperative working only with locals and making sure that they were treated correctly concerning weights and salaries as well as ensuring them decent conditions during the trek! This makes his company stand apart from many other mostly profit oriented companies, a lot of which are foreign. And in his spare time, which means Jagat Lama has hardly ever a moment for himself, he goes to his native mountain village Kumari, but the many extraordinary achievements Jagat Lama achieved there, are too long to explain here. But you might want to check it out: "healthanded4nepal.org" There you will find out how Jagat Lama struggled all his life to help his remote mountain village Kumari, creating the first school and hospital which were sadly destroyed during the devastating earthquakes in 2015. But instead of moaning and giving up, Jagat just rebuilt everything!!! Yes!! It's truly impressive when you learn about his his story and I'm deeply honoured to have such a compassionate and humble human being as my friend. By the way, you must check out his Kumari coffeee shop not far from Swayambhunath temple, the best coffee (organic of course) of the whole valley!!!

Totally tailored to my needs and so well looked after

This is the real deal. It is the best collection of independent, authentic and experienced Nepalese trekking guides. Jagat met me at my hotel and organised for me to be accompanied by Gopi Lama for a 6 day trek in the Annapurna region. We could stop or go slow whenever I liked and he always got me the best rooms in the guest houses. He was knowledgeable, spoke great english and was great company. And the route we took matched all my requirements to see the best views but not too much climbing at my age of 65. Highly recommended. And not expensive.
