Nuna Tavo Stroller Review

The Nuna Tavo also known as “One Click Wonder” is a smaller brother of the Mixx model, but less expensive and more compact.

While it does not have a reversible seat, it can be easily turned into a travel system with any Nuna Pipa infant car seat without any additional adapters.

Just click the car seat right into the seat and you are ready to roll. BTW, the Nuna Pipa car seat is one of the safest care seats on the market .

For this year Nuna has updated Tavo by giving it new more luxurious fashions and all-weather seat. It comes in two colors with the leatherette accented handlebar. The seat has a removable seat liner and a mesh seat back. Perfect for hot summer days. Also, Tavo used to be sold as a travel system with the infant car seat, but now you can buy it separately.

Just like the Mixx, Tavo has a very deep one-hand recline that goes to an almost flat position suitable for a newborn. The roomy seat can accommodate a child up to 50 lbs.

The canopy is to die for! It’s large with a pop-out sunvisor plus for extra protection, it has a hidden dream drape that will protect your child completely even with the seat fully reclined. There is a large peekaboo window with a magnetic closure and a zipped-in mesh panel for better air circulation.

It also features an adjustable leg rest, flip-flop-friendly brake, all-wheel suspension, swing-away bumper bar, adjustable handlebar, and a large easy-access basket. The maneuverability is really great.

It’s very easy to push with one hand. Folding and unfolding Tavo is a breeze! The stroller just collapses into itself and locks. All this goodness weighs 25 lbs which is 2 lbs lighter than Mixx.

This is your standard everyday stroller that you can use for everything from long walks at the park to running errands around town. The wheels are a good size and can tackle all of the mummy terrain.

I gave this model 5 out of 5 stars because I think this is a GREAT stroller that could be your ONLY stroller. It can easily get you from the newborn to the toddler stage.

The one advantage that Tavo has over Mixx is that it has a much roomier seat with the canopy sitting higher on the frame at 25″. Unlike reversible-seat strollers that tend to have smaller seats and lower canopies, Tavo has a lot of growing room.

I really like Nuna’s quality and I am not alone. Nuna has won over 300 awards ! All of their products are very well made and feel very solid. The fabrics are soft and durable.

I never get that plasticy or flimsy feeling from their products. The only thing I would change about Tavo is its weight. I think 25 lbs is a little heavy for a non-reversible seat stroller. The 20 – 21 lbs would be a more reasonable weight for this stroller.

The canopy is really large and it has a pop-out sunvisor that can be tucked away when not needed. But that is not all. It also has a zipped-in so-called “dream drape” that will provide your child with full coverage even when the seat is fully reclined.

What I like about this dream drape is that it’s a knit fabric so it still provides great air circulation while blocking the sun. When not needed, the dream drape can be zipped back in. BTW, the Mixx model does not have the dream drape.

It also has a large dark mesh peekaboo window with magnetic closure and one more zipped-in mesh panel in the back for even better airflow. The canopy is made out of the UPF 50+ fabric with a double quilted stitch work underneath. This is one of the best canopies on the market.

The telescoping handlebar goes from 38″ up to 42″ from the ground. It’s covered with luxe leather. To avoid tipping the stroller backward when the seat is fully reclined, hang your diaper bag on the frame instead of the handlebar using stroller hooks. You can also use it to hang your water bottle or shopping bags.

The roomy seat is 13″ wide with a 19″ seat back and a measurement of 25″ from the back of the seat to the top of the canopy. The seat can accommodate a child from birth and up to 50 lbs. This seat will last you through the toddler years with no problem.

The fabric from the seat is removable and machine washable. I really like the quality of the materials they’ve used on the canopy and the seat. It’s very soft but is very durable at the same time.

Another cool feature about the seat is that you can create a bassinet-like environment for your baby by lifting up the leg rest and using two pieces of material hidden underneath the leg rest to enclose the sides of the stroller.

You just clip each piece to the side of the frame. If you fully recline the seat, your baby will have a cozy and safe place to rest. And if it’s cold outside, you can put a warm blanket on top creating almost a footmuff.

It has a very deep recline that goes to almost a flat position suitable for a newborn. There are 4 recline positions that are operated by a one-hand lever recline.

The back of the canopy can be unzipped to expose a dark mesh window for better air circulation on a hot day. You can also unzip the canopy in the back completely.

It has an adjustable padded 5-point harness with a center release buckle. Unfortunately, the buckle is a puzzle piece.

The INCLUDED swing-away bumper bar is removable and can be used with the Pipa car seat to transform this stroller into a travel system.

The adjustable leg rest has three positions: up, straight, and down.

The basket is a great size and very easy to access by bringing the frame of the basket down. How cool is that? I wish all baskets would do that. So you can get to your stuff even if the seat is fully reclined. There is also a small zipper pocket in the basket that you can use to store your small items.

For even more storage I would recommend getting a universal stroller organizer. That way you can take not only your coffee cup, but also a LOT of stuff including keys, phone, water, wallet, snacks, diapers, toys, and more. The amount of stuff it can fit is unbelievable.

It rolls on four EVA foam never-flat wheels with 7.5″ wheels in the front and 10″ wheels in the back. The front wheels are swivel but can be locked straight for rougher terrain.

This is NOT an all-terrain stroller but can handle some bumps on the road. The wheels are an average size for your standard take-me-everywhere kind of model. This could be probably your ONLY stroller that you can take to the park for a long walk, grocery shopping, mall, or traveling.

This buggy has an all-wheel suspension that helps to absorb some of the bumps. The large one-step flip-flop-friendly brake is located between the rear wheels. Very easy to use!

FOLD/UNFOLD

This model has a very easy one-hand fold. I really like that this stroller collapses right away into the fold and locks. There is no need to jump on top of it trying to make it smaller so that the automatic lock finally clicks.

None of that. You just fold it down and it clicks right away. You can see from the overview video how easy it is. It also can be rolled behind you like a piece of luggage. BTW, Mixx has the same easy compact fold.

TRAVEL SYSTEM

The Nuna calls the Tavo model a ‘One-click wonder” because it works with the Nuna Pipa car seat without any adapters. You can just click your car seat right into place using the included bumper bar.

There is also a little lock on the side of the frame that secures the car seat in place. The Stroller canopy perfectly overlays the Pipa canopy to create full coverage for your little one.

You can also remove the stroller canopy completely since the Pipa car seat has also a hidden dream drape that will provide full protection. It used to be sold as a travel system, but now the stroller is sold separately.

• Heavy weight. The only thing I would consider changing is the weight. The 25 lbs is a little on the heavy side for this type of stroller. If you look at the other models, you will see that most strollers with these features weigh around 20-21 lbs. The 24-25 lbs weight range is usually found in the reversible seat models. That’s the only drawback I see in this model.

Hi Katrin, Thanks so much for your amazing review on the Nuna Tavo (just like the rest of your awesome reviews ;) I’m having such a hard time deciding on a stroller..I will mainly be using it for everyday grocery shopping,& errands & some walks..Iive in the suburbs & have a car.I was thinking of doing a full size stroller with a travel system option (I would get the pipa for the Tavo) & then get the bumbleride flite (love it) as a second more lightweight stroller..Now I really love the Tavo but is it too similiar to the flite? meaning it doesn’t have that many more features aside from wheels..could the Tavo be my only stroller? or I will probably get tired of putting this 24 lb stroller in & out of the car? should I rather go with the cybex balios as my full size stroller since it has the added feature of the reversible seat? (and the get the aton for the travel system) I was considering the nuna mixx but than decided it looks too bulky..what is your opinion? please help! Thanks

Hi Katrin, thanks for the detailed review. Honored to be the first one leaving a reply here. We are expecting our first child in a few months and I strongly prefer to get a travel system that could fit the child from birth to 3yr old. We live in the suburbs so the main purpose is just ferrying the child between parking lots and buildings (home, shopping mall, grocery stores, etc). We rarely go out for off-pavement walks and we won’t jog with a stroller. I fell in love with the stylish look of Tavo (especially the poppy red) and the one-click of PIPA. We checked both items out at a local store but came up with a few questions/concerns. 1. My husband complained about 2 things on the handle. First is the build of it, the one we tested in store seems like the 2 pieces are a little loose. The Mixx has a different height adjusting mechanism which seems to be more solid and durable. Second is when the canopy is folded, it kind of scratches your hand on the handle (I guess only when the handle is at the lowest height AND when the canopy is fully folded). Do you find those issues in your testing and are these real life issues? 2. we haven’t tried enough strollers to tell whether the ride is considered smooth and easy for one-hand handling. Would you comment on this aspect? 3. on the PIPA seat, I am bothered by the need of both hands to adjust the handle. Again, we haven’t checked out enough infant seats to say if this is a true inconvenience or is actually a safety feature. 4. there were only black ones in the store. Do you know if the poppy stroller matches the scarlet car seat? Or are they different colors? 5. in terms of budget, we are looking at $350-$500 stroller. Tavo is really attractive at its price point. Do you have other suggestions? We are not big fans of 3-wheel strollers and think the bassinet is a super redundant option for non-city lifestyle. How do the wheels compare to the Mixx? The look the same, but the Mixx is all terrain while the Tavo is not.

Hi Katrin, I lobe the Nuna brand and agree with you that the quality is very good. I am having such a hard time deciding between the Tavo vs. Mixx. They both offer great features. I want a stroller with large canopy, large basket, easy maneuverability which they both have. I live in a big city in a multi-unit building with an elevator (that sometimes break down!). I can’t tell if the one hand collapse with the Tavo is more important or the reversible seat with the Mixx. I like them both! Do you have a preference out of the two? Or, is there another comparable stroller out there that fits me better? Please help!

Hi Yunji. I think you are required to get an infant carrier by a hospital because they don’t discharge the baby without it. How are you going to go to the doctor appointments or store? You can use Tavo from birth with an infant insert.

I am deciding between the Nuna Tavo and the Uppababy Vista. There are so many pros and cons to both. Price aside, which is your favorite? I’m a FTM and like the idea of the convertibility of the Vista, but also worry about the heavier weight/bulkiness of getting it in and out of the car when running errands and going on trips. Any insight would help, thanks!

My husband and I currently live in Italy and cannot decide on the right stroller that fits all of our needs. We currently have 3 strollers (ridiculous, I know). Our Britax is terrible to steer. I love how easy it is to fold, but I cannot steer one handed with it and I bump into nearly everything! We also have the Baby Jogger Vue Lite which we love but you can feel every bump especially on the old streets in Europe. In addition, the storage is extremely limited. And lastly, we have our Bob which is huge and cannot fit anywhere indoors. We’re looking for something that is compact, can recline (our daughter is 9 months old), and can handle all of the old cobblestone sidewalks here. We were thinking of the Stokke Baby Scoot or the Nuna Mixx. Are there any other strollers you can think of? Peg Perego and Inglesina are everywhere here, but we don’t know how comparable they are to other strollers. We’ve poured hours into researching the right stroller but since we’re overseas, we can’t hop into a store and test it out. Thank you in advance!

Hi Katrin. I recently purchased the Nuna Tavo and the Nuna Pepp. I am trying to decide which I prefer as a travel stroller for our 11 month old. Our everyday stroller is a Stokke Crusi. While the Tavo is big for a travel stroller it is still much smaller than our Crusi. So my question is – for air travel, if we check the Stroller at the gate anyway, is it better to have the Tavo instead of the Pepp so baby has more space and comfort in the seat for a week or two or travel and a bigger basket for mom? Just trying to understand the reasoning behind keeping the Pepp over the Tavo. My husband and I prefer the Tavo but just not sure if we are being woo’d by the extra bells and whistles.

I am seriously thinking about getting the Tavo over the Mixx. I like that it has better suspension, larger canopy+dream drape, Pipa ready, and when reclined, resembles a bassinet more so than the Mixx. But my only concern is that the seat covers are not removable and not machine washable, while the Mixx has the option of removable seat covers. I am going to be a first time mom, should this downside alone hinder me from getting the Tavo? I also read that the fabric on the Mixx is softer than on the Tavo, is this true? Thanks!

Hi Lakshmi. Both are great choices. I do like Tavo because of the larger basket, shade and adjustable leg rest. You can also hang more off the handle because it’s not tipped back as easily as GT. GT is more compact and lighter. I guess id depends on the lifestyle and use. GT is simpler more compact, lighter and could probably your only stroller. With Tavo I would get an umbrella stroller down the road. Hope this helps!

For what it’s worth, we got the Tavo & love it. Lots of compliments from people when we’re out & about. As usual there’s things that could be made better but overall it’s an amazing buy. We also have a bugaboo that we got on CL & prefer the Tavo over it in almost every way.

What are you thoughts on the Uppababy Cruz versus the Nuna Tavo? I am having trouble deciding between the two.

Hi Germaine. You picked two great strollers. I like how Cruz looks a little more than Tavo and I like the reversible seat, but the seat is more comfortable on Tavo because of the flat recline. So I would look at it as reversible seat vs flat recline. Is it more important for the baby to see you or be able to take a comfortable nap. For the first few months you are probably will use car seat anyways so your baby will see you. Tavo also will take less space in your trunk. On another hand if you have back problems it’s better to get Cruz because you can load the seat separately from the frame so you really never have to lift the whole stroller up. Did that help?

We are currently stuck between the Nuna Tavo, Nuna Mixx2 and the Baby Jogger City Mini GT. We’ve 100% decided on the Pipa car seat. Based on your other comments it seems that you believe the City Mini will last us the longest but our concern is that the adapters for the pipa are not very easy to get the seat in and out of the city mini stroller, do you have experience with this at all? Also, which of these strollers do you feel will do the best on a gravel road? Thank you for your time!

I have the same dilemma. What about the wheels, ride and maneuverability? I love the drive on the Mixx2 but way too big a stroller for us. we are between the Cruz and Tavo. In store, they both seem fine however would either of these be suitable if we were to occasionally take it to the park?

Hi Sonia. If reversible seat is not a big deal, I would go with Tavo because it has a flat recline that is much comfortable for your child. Also the fold is more compact on Tavo.

I have the same questions about the Tavo. We travel often, but I don’t want to compromise the comfort of my 4-month old with an umbrella stroller, for instance. I am actually between the Tavo and the Baby Jogger City Mini.

So much more than a way to keep the sun out of your child’s eyes. You can adjust the two oversized mesh canopies to your exact needs without worry of any ventilation issues. Also included is a removable UPF 50+ canopy with a retractable flip-out eyeshade.  

No worries if you are juggling a wiggly child while trying to close the Tavo and store it away, all you need is one hand to close the stroller into a nice, compact size. The convenient trolley system means you can pull the stroller while folded.

If your child prefers to lay without dangling legs, you’ll love the adjustable calf support and foot rest feature on the Tavo!

Choose between a 3 or 5 point harness system. A quick release feature ensures that your child is completely safe snuggled up in the Tavo.

A progressive suspension system is what keeps your child’s ride in the Tavo nice and smooth, without being jostled around, even on an outdoor walk.

No need to worry about two brakes to activate, a middle braking system in the back of the stroller allows you to lock your stroller in place with just one click.

Nuna Tavo Next

The Nuna Tavo Next is a second generation of the nice-to-push forward-facing Nuna Tavo pushchair. Released at the end of 2020, the Tavo Next brings all the features and car seat compatibility of the original Tavo, but in a sleeker look with premium fabrics, redesigned hood and eco-leather details; a slightly more compact, one-hand self-standing fold; and an even nicer push experience thanks to an improved suspension. More differences between the Nuna Tavo and the Nuna Tavo Next include extra features like a magnetic safety harness buckle called the 'MagneTech Secure Snap', no DreamDrape sunshade (T_T) but an extension canopy with ventilation parts, and a slightly lower weight overall.

The Tavo Next, just like the Tavo, is a suitable alternative to the robust full-size stroller systems needed by parents with not enough storage space. The L-shaped chassis features a soft suspension system, while the shape of the frame helps naturally nice pushing. Along with the larger foam wheels, the storage basket is also large and nice to access. It also features an extra pocket that separates your bits and pieces.

The forward-facing-only seat unit is fully reclinable up to an almost-lie-flat. You can lift the leg rest as well as open the side flaps, creating an enclosed space imitating the ambiance of a bassinet. Like that, even a newborn can ride in the seat, protected even from the front side. The new, easier harness buckle features the same system as the renewed Nuna Demi Grow .

Without needing to remove the seat from the frame, you can also attach a Nuna Pipa car seat, creating a travel system out of the Tavo - no adapters needed. The Nuna PIPA, Nuna PIPA RX, Nuna PIPA Lite, Nuna PIPA Lite R, and the Nuna PIPA Lite LX are compatible. The Tavo Next was released in three colors, the neutral Granite Gray, Caviar Black, and Timber (and the special Broken Arrow, Caviar).

• Nuna Pipa clicks right in it
• bulky, wide for a hatchback, I have to remove the wheels
• not a complete lie flat
• not completely upright

It’s very comfortable even for smaller children, my girl is happy in it. I love how it drives but it can rattle a bit in cobblestones or bad pavements. One thing I would not choose it again, though, is that the folded size is not very flat (and it’s also not the lightest pushchair in the category) so I struggle every time I load and unload it to & from my hatchback.
