Freedom Of The Seas Itineraries
Freedom of the seas review, review of freedom of the seas.
The 2006-built Freedom of the Seas cruise ship is the first Freedom-class Royal Caribbean liner, with sisterships Liberty OTS and Independence OTS .
The vessel (IMO number 9304033) is currently Bahamas- flagged (MMSI 309906000) and registered in Nassau .
History - construction and ownership
Royal Caribbean International (RCI) is a US passenger shipping company, trademarked travel brand, and subsidiary owned by Royal Caribbean Group (RCG/shipowner). RCI was established in 1968 and currently has over 1/5 of the worldwide cruise market. RCI also has RCG's largest fleet by both vessel number and GT tonnage (ship sizes and capacities).
All RCI liners have names ending with "of the Seas".
The 4000-passenger ship Freedom OTS debuted in May 2006 as the world's biggest cruise liner . The ship introduced a new class of ships for Royal Caribbean, surpassing Cunard's Queen Mary 2 by 7000 GT-tons and carrying 1014 more passengers. Besides her size, Freedom of the Seas also made waves in other ways. She was the first to feature a surf simulator, a regulation-sized boxing ring, an interactive water park for children and even a barbershop.
Yet in many ways, Freedom OTS was an evolution of the Voyager class, which made its own headlines when it debuted with biggest-at-sea status back in 1999. The design is nearly the same and the promenade is back, as is the rock-climbing wall, the ice-skating rink, Johnny Rockets, the Promenade Cafe, Ben and Jerry's, etc. It is as if Voyager OTS was simply super-sized, and beefed up with innovative spaces and concepts.
Decks and Cabins
Freedom Of The Seas staterooms (2012 total) include 127 Suites, 768 Balcony, 711 Oceanviews, 168 Promenade View, 642 Inside. Most cabins are sized 150-190 ft2 (14-18 m2). Most cabin balconies are sized 65 ft2 (6 m2). The largest is Royal Suite (1360 ft2 / 126 m2 plus 315 ft2 / 29 m2 terrace). Wheelchair-accessible cabins are 33.
The boat has 15 decks , of which 14 are passenger-accessible and 9 with cabins.

Those who opt for My Time Dining have to pre-pay gratuities.
The Windjammer Cafe/lido buffet offers flexibility and variety - best for families with kids. Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas Sails from Miami
- July 3, 2021
Royal Caribbean international’s Freedom of the Seas sailed from Miami on Friday evening, marking the first revenue cruise for the brand from the U.S. for over 15 months.
The Freedom saw a tugboat water cannon salute as she departed Miami on her weekend sailing, as the vessel was first ship to get the Conditional Sailing Certificate from the U.S. Centers for Disease and Control (CDC), following a recent successful simulated voyage from Miami,.
The certificate provides approval for passenger voyages with less than 95 percent of guests vaccinated, which will allow the company to sail with more children aboard.
The cruise will feature calls in Nassau and Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private island destination in The Bahamas.
The ship is expected to operate short cruises from Miami for the summer season and is the next big ship back in service from a U.S. homeport following hte Celebrity Edge debuting from Port Everglades last weekend.

Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas Returns to PortMiami After ‘Simulated' Cruise
The cruise returned with around 650 employees that made part of the test run, by nbc 6 • published june 22, 2021 • updated on june 22, 2021 at 6:52 pm.
Royal Caribbean's "Freedom of the Seas" returned to PortMiami Tuesday morning after embarking on a “simulated” cruise Sunday night with hundreds of fully-vaccinated employees serving as volunteer guests.
The cruise returned with around 650 employees that made part of the test run.
In accordance with CDC guidelines and requirements, the purpose of the simulation was to observe the cruise line's multilayered health and safety measures, more than a year after COVID-19 brought the U.S. cruise industry to a halt.
The “Freedom of the Seas" is scheduled to set sail on a paid cruise July 2nd.

The ship headed out to sea on the "simulated" voyage after a judge ruled against the CDC's no-sail order. The ruling also means the CDC cannot enforce any vaccine requirements on cruises leaving from Florida.
After July 18th, CDC regulations will just become non-binding recommendations.

Gorgeous boat absolutely beautiful and the entertainment was on spot and fun also. The food in the dining room was good and the servers on spot. Had a great time and getting off the boat was the easiest transition
Went on a 5 day cruise ! The good - decent meals , clean ship , funny comedy , decent coffee ( that you pay for) . The bad - not great theater shows, closed the pool/ jacuzzi areas by 8pm for days , lots of people ( to be expected ) minimal TV to unwind too, lots of children . This boat seems better for families with kids ... the arcade is tiny , pool looks like fun for littles , water slides etc . Really didn't care for any of the shows ... do not stay on the 2nd deck ( you will be woken up to a loud noise every morning way too early ) would I go again on this ship ... probably not unless it's free ... but if you have kids go for it !

This review is for freedom of the seas rather then royal carribean as a whole. Rooms- 2 stars- they really show their age and could use upgrades Food- 3 stars- everything was ok, typical cruise food and ambiance... main dining room was hit or miss Entertainment/ activities -3 stars - enough activities for a 3 night sailing Value -5 stars- price seems to be pretty low for the all the freedom class ships Coco cay -5 stars- awesome

I love cruising. It's absolutely my favorite way to travel. This recent trip was my first Royal Caribbean Cruise. It certainly won't be the last. Freedom of the Sea was the largest ship in the world when it was introduced years ago so you can imagine just how big it is! The pool deck has so much seating, even on a sea day we found chairs together. The boat is kept spotless and the service was all very friendly. I did wish the food was a little more consistent in its quality as some of the food was not good but some items I did find myself enjoying. (The pizza place is amazing on the 5 promenade). If your debating a cruise on this ship, highly recommend.
YEARS ago I did my 15s cruise on Freedom of the Seas. At the time it was one of the newer ships & I had an amazing time. Now 16 years later I was looking to celebrate my husband & I's 10th wedding anniversary with a weekend getaway & the most recently refurbished of the older ships is Freedom of The Seas that is the one being used for the close weekend getaways. They've definitely updated the ship some Of the most noticeable things are the water slides & updated pools also the taco buffet by the pool. A gem that remains is Sorrentos Pizza that is a must !! Especially at 2 am after a night at the club lol. Which FYI on your last night it closes early so you may want to stock up on pizza before the club lol then you'll want room service but so does half the ship so you end up falling asleep as you think about the abundant wish list you want to order! A change I didn't like was the desserts were changed at Sorrentos & the bakery & I wish it would have been a daily change like the pizza too to get some variety. But all in all, We had such a spectacular time ! First, RCC is so extremely organized it amazes me. From the booking proceses, to the boarding process all throughout its a breeze ! I didn't know I could request a private table - they made it super easy. I had booked a massage for 1:15 yet the boarding time we got was 2 pm- they told me to head to the port early that it shouldn't be a problem or if I had to end up boarding at 2 to go straight to the spa & tell them & they would accommodate- everything worked out perfectly. The ship is nice & clean, staff is so nice, food is amazing, experience a lifetime memory. Our room was a promenade view room which I loved. You feel connected to the rest of the ship, but Can have your privacy too. Not too small. & our attendant Ronald was super nice he made sure to say hi every morning & he took care of us leaving us exactly what we needed & making us feel at home. We loved eating dinner in the main dining room & if you eat there & get Alwyn as your waiter & Wahyu as the assistant waiter I promise they'll make it special ! They even sang my husband and I am anniversary song. It was the cutest thing. They got to really know us & make our time special. I Highly recommend. The ship is "smaller" but nonetheless breathtaking & there is always something to do we left with still wanting to try things.

Really 2.5 stars. The only reason for the third star is for the stop at coco cay waterpark and the service on the ship. The waiters and stewards are nice but obviously wanting extra tips. Dining room staff is very nice. Food is below average The ship is old, smells and has bugs visible in many areas. It is in dire need of total refurbishment. Pool areas are very small. Bars are small and entertainment was below average. The main shopping area is also where bars, pizza and entertainment are. Got very crowded fast. It's also dark and dingy feeling. The carpets stink of dirt...you walk into some spaces and are hit with dirty mildew smell that actually made us cover our nose. The food is OK. Nothing was delicious except the dessert at the specialty Italian restaurant. The pizza was decent and usually hot. The service is pretty good, reason for second star. Coffee OK, that was a nice surprise. At night, there isn't much to do. Sub par "game shows" packed into small lounges on first night and a comedian(he was funny.) The production on second night had my family asleep and the last night was love and marriage game show hosted by the cruise director. It could have been funny. It was awful!!! Otherwise - go spend more in the casino. We will be going on another cruise soon NOT Royal Caribbean. It's a money grab feel- which is not nice.
I really enjoyed cruising this ship for the 4th of July week. It was a family vacation, 11 of us to be exact, and it was a nice time for us all. I have previously cruised with Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Norwegian and MSC. Royal Caribbean is one of the top contenders. Many amenities to enjoy while at sea... water slides, mini golf, flow rider (surf), ping pong tables, basketball courts, kids' club, teen club, arcades, casino, sports bar with pool tables and other games, rock climbing, adult pools, theater shows like comedy, couples' games, magic and comedy, skating show and more. Food wise, yum! So much variety on the buffets and main dining restaurants. For an extra cost, Johnny Rockets, Hibachi, coffee shop and other restaurants. Their private island, Coco Cay, was beautiful and plenty to do! Kid's splash area, water slides, huge pool, beach areas with chairs and umbrellas... all included. For a fee of around $130 (give or take depending if you purchase prior or on the boat), you can go to Thrill Water Park, which has tons of slides and the tallest water slide in North America... Daredevil's Peak. We cruised from Monday to Friday and we all wished it would have been longer. Amazing experiences with the family and totally recommend.

I am a traveler through and through. You can always temp me with a good time. I booked this cruise with a couple of friends from work for a weekend away. When we got there we were a little disappointed because the Royal Caribbean parking garage was full. Luckily the Norwegian terminal was right next door and we were able to park there and take a short walk over back to the Royal terminal. The on boarding experience was pretty easy. We waited outside for about 10 mins. Once we got inside we went up the escalator and then met with another agent who confirmed our travel documents. Then right after we went to the bag check and finally we were on board. When we finally got on the ship we were ready to hang out. We went to the buffet and grab a quick bite to eat and headed to the pool deck for the sail away party. The ship was back to 100 percent capacity which means that it was crowded. It was a little bit of a struggle to get a drink sometimes. We both had the unlimited package however, they were not allowing us to order doubles or shots which was really disappointing. As far as food goes we ate at two of the specialty dining restaurants chops and the teppanyaki restaurant. At Chops I loved the crab cakes and I ordered the lamb chops. At teppanyaki I ordered the scallops and the lobster. I thought both of the specialty dining restaurants were okay. I did not feel like if they were on land that I would go to them again. What I loved the most about the cruise was not the actual ship it was the private island. It really is a perfect day at coco cay. We got off the ship nice and early and walked over to the Oasis pool where we hung out all day. I loved the swim up bar and I loved the service from the bar tenders on the island. Overall it was a fun experience because we went with great people but I would probably try one of the other cruise lines for the weekend cruise next time.

Worst cruise and vacation we have ever taken! Definitely stay in a Stateroom as any thing less is awful! We had a great balcony view but could not enjoy it much for all the Marijuana being smoked on this cruise. The food was eatable but not good. We actually lost weight as we don't drink a ton and the drinks we did have where not great. There were a ton of kids which this cruise line is known to cater to which maybe part of why the trip was so horrible. There were not enough elevators so always take the stairs, especially if trying to get to the 5th floor! There were shops but most products were cheap or crazy expensive, with nothing really in between those price points. If you try to eat in the Windjammer buffet area be prepared! There is not enough sitting and people are super rude about hogging extra chairs that they don't even use. Either you have to become aggressive about getting a seat or you are forced to walk around for 20-30 minutes looking for a spot for two people! We finally started caring our food to other areas of the ship. There are not enough hot tubs and they close them early; plus they are always overcrowded. These was the worst cruise we have ever been on and I love to cruise. If you have a ton of kids then this is probably the cruise for you, but for a couple it is bad! Also, we were pressured to exit the boat early (8am), so forget about the 10am check out. The upper class crew members were super nice and did a great job with hospitality; but the normal crew ordered you around as if you were bothering them. I would wish I could do 1.5 stars but because the dining room crew were so great I decided to do 2 stars. It you are looking for relaxation this is not the cruise for you, I promise!!! Ps. Do not flush the toilet while someone is in the shower, or else you will burn them badly!
Stateroom with large balcony.
My overall experience was good. It was a short girls trip to the Bahamas with a stop at Royal Caribbeans Coco Cay Island. I didn't try any of the buffets offered on the cruise. There were several options to eat at. We just could not imagine eating so many times. We opted for the main dining experience for dinner and our waiter was AMAZING! He was worth the trip in its self. The ship is big, great activities for the kids. Coco Cay is a water park. Ideal for families. It has plenty of open beach space. Do not buy the chairs and umbrellas if you want to layout on the beach. It's free!!! Just get out there and grab the spot you want. They offered a complimentary buffet on that island. The food was great, a big area that had at least 4-5 food stations all around this huge food court. The ships came in to the port so their were 1000's of people on the island. Fountain drinks and a ice cream station was also complimentary. The stop in the Bahamas I wished was longer. We did a catamaran cruise that lasted about 1.5 hours. Then we caught a cab ($5 per person) and went to the Atlantis for lunch. The hotel is HUGE. My mom isn't able to walk too far so we stayed near restaurant and played at the casino for a hour. I felt our time was too short there. We got off boat at 830 and you had to be back on the boat by 430pm. When you arrived in the Bahamas it's not the best area. If you ever gone to Jamaica it's similar. Except for the side by the hotel resorts, you will see beautifully built mansions. I wished overall I could have enjoyed the activities on the boat more but I had a group of ladies who do not know how to party. So I missed out on the clubbing, the shows and the last night activities. The two downsides of our trip. We had waited 2 hours in a line of over 2000 people because the ship had a issue with prior guest leaving later than was expected which delayed our entrance. I paid extra for the KEY experience and didn't get our private lunch that was included nor the priority boarding. The other thing is you can not buy a separate drink package for someone who doesn't drink liquor. I had to buy my mom a package she wouldn't use. Be mindful of that. You have to buy everyone in the room the same drink package. Also if you are drinking and you bought the package, make sure to not order more than two drinks at a time. It's complimentary with the package but if you get more than two drinks at a time they charge you. Space you drinks out or go to another bar to order. I am planning another Royal Caribbean trip in May for 7 days to Greece so now that I have done this one, I plan to enjoy more of the activities they offer on one of their newer ships. Oh, no clothes irons allowed or are available. Keep that in mind unless you want to send all items need iron to be laundered on the ship. Another way for them to get money out of ya.

Royal Caribbean's Vision of the Seas will be first cruise to embark from Baltimore since Key Bridge collapse
By Adam Thompson
Updated on: May 16, 2024 / 11:28 PM EDT / CBS Baltimore
BALTIMORE - Royal Caribbean is getting ready to set sail out of the Port of Baltimore as the first cruise departure from the port since the March 26 Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse.
The Port of Baltimore announced that the Vision of the Seas, owned by Royal Caribbean, will embark on a five-night voyage on May 25 from Baltimore to Bermuda.
"Baltimore is back," the Port of Baltimore posted on social media.
Get ready…Port of Baltimore is ready to cruise once again! @RoyalCaribbean 's Vision of the Seas will depart on May 25 for a 5-night trip from Baltimore to Bermuda! This marks the 1st cruise leaving Baltimore since the bridge incident. Baltimore is back! https://t.co/XEguEqqTOR pic.twitter.com/v7dLcDpLmA — Port of Baltimore (@portofbalt) May 15, 2024
The cargo ship Dali crashed into Baltimore's bridge in late March, killing six construction workers, halting access to and from the Port of Baltimore and knocking down the entire bridge.
The Port of Baltimore services cruise ships from Royal Caribbean, Carnival and Norwegian.
In April, a Carnival cruise ship was expected to return to Baltimore, but after the Key Bridge collapse, it ported in Norfolk, Virginia.
Regina Ali, a spokesperson for AAA, was on that Carnival ship when the cargo ship caused the bridge collapse.
"I'm looking and I'm like, 'Wait a minute, this is in Maryland and it was so surreal,'" Ali said.
Since then, cruise ships originally slated for Baltimore took off and returned in Norfolk.
Adam Thompson was raised in Ohio, but made stops in Virginia and North Carolina before landing in Maryland.

Royal Caribbean Adds 10,000 Employees for Cruise Ships and Private Island
Andrea Santillan
- May 14, 2024
As the demand for cruises continues to skyrocket, Royal Caribbean announced it is recruiting 10,000 employees globally. The company is already working with key government agencies and institutions to help meet its huge manpower requirement this year.
The cruise industry may have ground to a halt during the pandemic, but Royal Caribbean is certainly making up for lost time with record-breaking bookings and its latest mega vessels.
Along with revenue growth and a stock price that has doubled in value, the cruise line announced last week that it needs to hire 10,000 employees to support its “moderate capacity growth” strategy. New recruits will be assigned to Royal Caribbean ships and private destinations.
The Miami-based company already had 98,300 employees as of 2023. Around 90% work on ships, while over 9% support shoreside operations.
To meet its ambitious recruitment goal, the cruise line is in talks with institutions and agencies in Jamaica, the British Virgin Islands, Gambia, and St. Maarten. Royal Caribbean has requested Jamaica’s Caribbean Maritime University to host more courses for short-term skills and certifications to hire more qualified workers from the region.
A similar request was made to the British Virgin Islands. Royal Caribbean has also asked the Tourism Board in Gambia for help as it seeks to grow its 700-strong local workforce.
In St. Maarten, the cruise operator held a recruitment event last year. Port St. Maarten CEO Alexander Gumbs revealed that it received less than a third of applications compared to the 1,000 employees Royal Caribbean hoped to hire.
Beyond Royal Caribbean’s recruitment drive, staffing needs are growing across the industry and are influenced by market demand. Passengers have surpassed pre-pandemic levels, registering almost 2 million more cruisers in 2023 versus 2019.
Additionally, the latest State of the Cruise Industry Report anticipates as many as 56 new vessels in the next 4 years. Combined, these factors will no doubt continue to create more employment opportunities in the cruise industry.

Subscriber only, travel | royal caribbean’s port canaveral-bound utopia of the seas heads out for sea trials.
Royal Caribbean's Utopia of the Seas sails from the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 to begin five days of sea trials ahead of its July debut from Port Canaveral. (Courtesy/Royal Caribbean)
The sixth Oasis-class vessel set to become the second largest cruise ship in the world has five days of sea trials ahead of it, sailing from the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, on Tuesday where it has been under construction since April 2022.
With 10 weeks before its July 19 debut, the ship will perform hundreds of tests as it travels more than 1,000 miles.
“More than 900 experts, specialists across areas such as naval architecture, engineering, navigation and design, are on Utopia to push the ship to its limits and make sure it’s ready for smooth sailing,” according to a Royal Caribbean news release.
On the list will be confirming expected ship movement through the open water and making sure its navigation systems and engines perform as expected.
Port Canaveral chalks up record month amid growing cruise demand
The ship is taking over the three- and four-night Bahamas itineraries currently being performed by Allure of the Seas out of Port Canaveral, part of a strategy of parking two Oasis-class ships at the Orlando-area port that has led to record passenger numbers.
Each sailing will visit Royal Caribbean’s private Bahamas island Little Stirrup Cay, which the company has rebranded Perfect Day at CocoCay. The destination features a water park with 14 waterslides and a massive wave pool, the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean and the Bahamas and a new adults-only area called Hideaway Beach.
As the sixth Oasis-class ship, the ship is 236,860 gross tons and 1,188 feet long with 18 decks and a 5,668-passenger capacity based on double occupancy. Oasis of the Seas was the largest in the world when it debuted in 2009 followed by 2010’s Allure of the Seas, 2016’s Harmony of the Seas, 2018’s Symphony of the Seas and 2022’s Wonder of the Seas.
All but Symphony have spent some time calling Port Canaveral home.
It’s the first time Royal has assigned the short sailing duties to a ship of that size for its debut.
Port Canaveral head says it’s getting Royal Caribbean’s next new world’s largest cruise ship
It will not become the world’s largest ship because of the debut this year out of Miami of the even larger Icon of the Seas, the first in a new class of ship whose sister Star of the Seas will come online in 2025 and also make its way to Port Canaveral.
For now, though, Utopia of the Seas at No. 2 brings with it the Oasis-class favorites including the Ultimate Abyss dry slide. Utopia’s will be the longest at sea at 295 feet long — 43 feet longer than those on its sister ships. The ship’s outdoor features include eight hot tubs, five pools, three Perfect Storm waterslides, a surf simulator, mini golf, climbing walls and the Splashaway Bay water play area.
It will be home to seven neighborhoods that carve up the ship including the Boardwalk, Royal Promenade and Central Park.
Royal Caribbean details new dining on Port Canaveral-bound Utopia of the Seas
A new dining venue is called Royal Railway – Utopia Station will bring travelers on board a virtual train, offering a thematic dinner experience similar to the new Empire Supper Club that debuted on Icon of the Seas. The railway cars diners sit in will mimic train travel with digital screens showing a variety of destinations with matching cuisine.
The ship will also feature a new poolside food truck with quick bites called The Spare Tire, a walkup window for Japanese restaurant Izumi with Japanese-inspired street food and sweets, a repositioned, two-deck Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar and new outside terrace Gio’s Terrazza and the second iteration of the popular Mason Jar Southern Restaurant & Bar that debuted on Wonder of the Seas.
Also on board will be Hooked Seafood, Chops Grille, 150 Central Park, Park Cafe, Sorrento’s, Boardwalk Dog House, Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade, Windjammer buffet, the main dining room and chef’s table experience.
One of 23 bar options, a new venue called the Pesky Parrot will feature fruit-based cocktails and frozen drinks on the Promenade taking place of the Bionic Bar found on some of its sister ships.
Utopia of the Seas will also be the first Oasis-class ship to run on liquefied natural gas, a cleaner burning fuel that is among the cruise industry’s efforts to reduce their ships’ carbon footprint. Port Canaveral was the first North American port to home port an LNG cruise ship when Carnival’s Mardi Gras arrived in 2021 followed by Disney Wish in 2022.
For its main show entertainment, new show titles have yet to be revealed, but it will have its three main performance venues with Broadway-style shows at the Royal Theater, a new diving and aerobatic show in the AquaTheater, new ice-skating performances in Studio B as well as comedy in The Attic.
