The micro-fine mist leaves a healthy-looking dewy finish in its wake and we appreciated that it didn't feel wet or look greasy.

This setting spray isn't billed as waterproof, but it promises to lock in your makeup for up to 16 hours. And while it contains synthetic fragrance, which can be irritating for sensitive skin , we didn't find the scent to be overwhelming.

We should note that the nozzle works almost too well in that it's easy to overdo it with too much product. It leaves the skin feeling pretty wet after just a few spritzes, but it dried quickly and didn't disrupt our makeup. It feels cooling on the skin, has a nice coconutty-vanilla scent, and leaves a radiant, glowy finish behind.

If you prefer a matte finish, we recommend One/Size On 'Til Dawn. The lightweight formula sets makeup instantly, and though it created a minor tightening sensation on the skin, it wasn't uncomfortable. Beyoncé's makeup artist even recently shared that this is the setting spray she used on the Renaissance World tour—and it lasted through a rain storm in Washington D.C.

Once dry, it leaves the complexion looking smooth and crease-free with a soft-focus blurred effect that kept our makeup intact all day—even through splashes of water. And while this setting spray is mattifying, it didn't look flat or feel dry on the skin. It smells kind of perfume-y, which some people don't mind, but the added fragrance could be irritating.

We found that it felt totally weightless on the skin and worked to set makeup in place while creating a luminous finish. You don't have to worry about the mist being too aggressive or soaking your face, in fact, we wish it was a bit more powerful as it takes many sprays to evenly coat the face. While Tatcha doesn't describe this product as waterproof, it definitely passed our splash test. We just wish the bottle were a little bigger, considering the steep price point.

Once dry, this skin-friendly setting spray promises to keep your makeup in place for up to 12 hours. A splash of water did result in some slight smudging, but almost nothing transferred when we patted our skin with a towel.

Calling it a "little rain jacket for [her] makeup," one tester said that everything stayed intact after giving her face a good splash. • Claims: Not all setting sprays do the same thing. When you're shopping for one, keep in mind what you want to get out of using a setting spray and look for products that align. For example, if you have oily skin and you're hoping to reduce shine and extend the wear of your makeup, choose one with a matte finish that promises to lock in makeup for 12+ hours.
• Finish: Determine the finish you want to achieve, as well as your skin type . If you tend to get oily, a mattifying setting spray could help to counteract any shininess. If you have dry skin or you want to achieve a glow, one with a luminous finish is best for you.

After you’ve finished applying your makeup, give the bottle a generous shake, then hold it about six to eight inches from your face. With your eyes closed, spray on a light veil in a zig-zag motion. Allow it to dry for at least a minute.

You can apply setting spray on top of foundation, on top of a full face of makeup, or after each step (misting the face after eyeshadow, lipstick, and other product layers).

If your skin is on the dryer side, look for ingredients like glycerin or hyaluronic acid, whereas if your skin is oily, look for oil-absorbing ingredients like witch hazel.

Loiz has a secret trick for applying setting spray, and it includes two products. First, you'll use a hydrating setting spray, applying it after your foundation, concealer, and/or setting powder. I don’t know how I didn’t come across Omorovicza earlier but I was so excited to try this brand when I saw it at Mecca Cosmetics. This award-winning cleansing balm cleanses and removes makeup whilst leaving the skin feeling super soft and hydrated. It’s rich in Hungarian Moor Mud, a potent source of calcium and magnesium, to clear congested pores and draw out impurities. This product is particularly great for anyone who has combination or dry skin as it’s enriched with sweet almond oil to leave skin replenished and hydrated.

Omorovicza  Refining Facial Polisher

Further fuelling my love for Omorovicza is the Refining Facial Polisher. This baby contains marine micro-algae and helps to refine texture and exfoliate away dead skin cells. I love the texture of this exfoliant as it works to buff away dead skin without being overly harsh and it leaves my skin silky smooth and refreshed.

Mecca Cosmetica To Save Body SPF 50

Finally, a non-oily, non-whitening sunscreen that feels great on the skin whilst protecting against the damaging and ageing effects of the sun. It protects against UVA & UVB rays with four hours of water-resistance. I haven’t tried the face version of this (To Save Face) but I might have to grab that one next time I’m in Mecca!

Easily blendable and enriched with coconut oil for hydration, this luminiser has a satin-pearl finish which gives the skin a subtle sheen. I use this on  the cheekbones, cupids bow and brow bone for dewy, glowing skin.

Stila Got Inked Cushion Eye Liner

My MAC Blacktrack was drying out a bit so I’ve been using this eye liner in place of my usual go-to. This definitely has more pigmentation than my MAC Fluidline and it’s just as easy to use. The formula is waterproof and doesn’t smudge throughout the day. The product is dispensed through a cushion-sponge which is great because it stops you from picking up too much product. It’s very easy to work with and you can build up the intensity of colour.

bareMinerals Pop of Passion Blush Balm

I grabbed this limited edition Blush Balm in the shade Posy Passion, a beautiful sheer fuchsia. I love cream blushes because they look so natural when used right. This lightweight balm gives a lovely touch of buildable colour to the cheeks that blends in effortlessly.

The Hourglass Veil Soft Focus Setting Spray Convinced Me to Wear Makeup More

I shy away from wearing a full face of makeup every day because of my oily skin. With the exception of mascara and eyeliner on my lower lash line, I keep my routine pretty minimal to avoid having products like eye shadow and foundation run down my face throughout the day. No matter how fervently a product claims to be water-proof or water-resistant, makeup simply does not last long for me — and when it's super hot and humid outside, it's gone in minutes.

While some people find success with setting powders and sprays, everything I've ever used either makes me look too matte and cakey or doesn't work at all. I've learned to cut my losses and save a full face for nights out and special occasions when I only need to look done up for a few hours. However, I welcome any product that will prove me wrong, and I have a feeling I might've found it with Hourglass's newest launch, the Veil Soft Focus Setting Spray .

The latest launch from Hourglass is a lightweight and alcohol-free setting spray that my typically fussy complexion put to the test. An extension of the popular Veil line, it's perfect for those of us who don't want to deal with powder and are looking for something that blurs the appearance of pores and uneven skin texture. It contains glycerin to hydrate skin and is made of an intensive shield of polymers that prevent sweat and water from ruining makeup without any drying effects.

Cosmetic chemist Ginger King says that polymers, in general, have water-resistant properties in them and act similarly to water-resistant sunscreens that don't wear off easily. But what sets this apart from other sprays is its ability to lock in product while still giving users a dewy look.

"The really nice thing about this though is that it's really adding additional glow," makeup artist and Hourglass Cosmetics global director of education Marc Reagan tells Allure. "It locks in moisture to give skin a healthier and plumper complexion."

New York City-based makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes says the type of spray you use is usually dependent on your skin type and suggests matte finishes for someone who produces more oil and dewy finishes for those who have dry skin. Since I have oily skin, this means I'd typically have to go for a matte finish (which I don't love), so the ability to lock in my makeup while not having to sacrifice looking dewy with this is really appealing.

Hourglass claims this spray can set makeup for 24 hours, but Reagan says that's also dependent on your skin type. Those with normal to dry skin are more likely to see longer longevity with this product versus those who tend to have more oily skin.

To get the most out of the added glow provided by the Veil Soft Focus Setting Spray, Reagan says to focus on the high points on your face, like your cheekbones. Those with oily or combination skin will want to use powder on the T-zone to control the excess oil production and spritz the spray everywhere else.

And the best way to spray is 10 inches away than consistently spritzing to the point where it waterfalls down your face. "I know people want to feel the spray, but all you need to feel is the light tingle with this — and that's enough to give hydration to the skin," says Reagan. "You can see the shine already in the best way."

I start my routine with Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizer Natural Skin Perfector Broad Spectrum SPF 30 as my base. For my eyes, I use Hourglass's new Veil Eye Primer , which also launches April 17, to lock in the light pink shimmer Kaja Moon Crystal Sparkling Eye Pigment I'm wearing as a mood-lifter.

I finish my eye look with the black Innisfree Gel Liner on my lower lash line and the Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara to open up my eye area.

While I like my highlighter to really shine, I don't want to look like I dunked my head in a bowl of oil. To hit that sweet spot between intense glow and too oily, Hughes suggests not putting product on my T-zone area as it will just add to the oiliness. So I stick to my cheekbones and swipe a mix of the pink metallic Absolute Strobe Light with the gold Pure Strobe Light from the Hourglass Ambient Metallic Strobe Lighting Pallete (yes, Hourglass is bringing this fan-favorite back from its 2017 holiday collection for a limited time) across them to add some shimmer and dimension to my face. As a finishing touch, I spritz the new setting spray 10 inches away and let the fine mist gently settle on my face. The end result is actually quite impressive.

At-home quarantine makes it so I don't have to deal with excessive sweat. But as I work and settle into my routine around my apartment, I find that my makeup stays locked in place, which bodes well for when we'll be able to go outside again. My absolute favorite part, however, is how it amplifies my highlighter. It adds a layer of shine that I actually welcome and gives me the dewy complexion of my dreams.

Will I start using makeup more into my everyday routine? That remains to be seen, but this setting spray is definitely making me rethink some things. You can find the Hourlgass Veil Soft Focus Setting Spray on April 17 at hourglass.com and on April 24 at sephora.com for $48.
