Legoland is suitable for children of any age including toddlers and babies. Some of the rides in the Legoland theme park are restricted by height and age. However, there are still loads of activities and rides suitable for younger children. If you want to visit the theme park with a baby or toddler, we recommend the imagination section. This section has a lot of activities and rides which are suitable for babies and toddlers.

Children over 100 cm tall and over four years old should be able to go on most of the rides, if accompanied by an adult.

What’s more, some of the bigger slides in the Legoland water park are restricted by height and age. There are still plenty of activities suitable for babies and toddlers at the waterpark. There is a shallow baby pool, with a small slide and water play activities.

What can you do at Legoland Malaysia?

legoland malaysia trip

One of the things we absolutely love about Legoland Malaysia is the sheer variety of activities. That really is something for everyone. This means that you can plan a very balanced and enjoyable itinerary for the whole family.

The Legoland theme park

legoland malaysia trip

The Legoland theme park is an extensive park with a range of different creative themed sections. That’s to Legoland theme park you will find over 40 amazing rides, shows and attractions.

Here are some of the things that you can do in the Legoland theme park. This is not a comprehensive list of all of the rides and attractions at Legoland Malaysia. Rather, these are just a few of the rides and activities to give you a feel for the variety of experiences available at Legoland Malaysia:

The Dragon (Lego Kingdoms)

Legoland Malaysia Dragon

This is the biggest and fastest roller coaster at Legoland Malaysia. The Dragon is for anyone who needs a good adrenaline rush. The Dragon is a fast and exciting roller coaster, a guaranteed adrenaline rush. The dragon roller coaster starts by going through an indoor castle exhibition and then suddenly speeds outside up a steep climb, and then speeds around a winding track.

legoland malaysia trip

Children aged 6 and above and over 100 cm tall can ride the dragon if accompanied by an adult. For younger kids check out the Dragon’s Apprentice roller coaster (minimum height 105cm and 4 years old).

Rebuild the world exhibition

legoland malaysia trip

This is an activity designed to develop dexterity, creativity and problem-solving. This is an air-conditioned exhibition with several Lego stations. Children design and build Lego structures to add to a collective piece of artwork in the centre of the room. Children can build animals, vehicles and buildings to add to the giant Lego globe in the centre of the room.

legoland malaysia trip

Around the room you can also see amazing lego sculptures to inspire children’s imagination. This also affords a well earned break for parents! There is a such a variety of activities at Legoland Malaysia. They occasionally switch the theme of this section.

The Ninjago ride (Land of Adventure)

legoland malaysia trip

The Ninjago ride is an interactive ride. You and your team sit in a small car and drive around interactive ninja scenes. In this adventure your body movement is detected by sensors so you can Ninja battle with the digital lego characters.

legoland malaysia trip

We love for use of Japanese decorations and trees all around the building here.

4D Cinema (Imagination Zone)

legoland malaysia trip

If you need a little rest they also have a 4D cinema at Legoland. Admission to the 4D Cinema is free of charge and included with your entrance ticket. Just arrived at the show time and you can walk straight in. The 4D Cinema shows a range of different 4D adventure lego movies throughout the day. If you have never experienced a 4D movie before, we highly recommend stopping by.

legoland malaysia trip

At the 4D Cinema they give you special 3D glasses and they also include other elements that have the fourth dimension to the experience. For example wind and rain (don’t worry this is more like spray).

The Observation Tower (Imagination Zone)

legoland malaysia trip

The observation tower is a large rotating lift. This is a slow, steady and scenic ride. If you do the observation tower you are seated and looking out at the glass window which affords a beautiful panoramic view of the entire Legoland park and the surrounding areas. This ride takes around 10 minutes.

Top tip: If you are not sure which rides to go on, taking a ride up the observation tower allows you to see the park from above and get inspired.

The Aquazone Wave Racer (Lego Technic Zone)

legoland malaysia trip

The Aquazone Wave Racer is a fun water ride that spins you over the water. You can ride the Aquazone Wave Racer without getting wet. Children over 100cm and 6 years old can ride the Aquazone Wave Racer accompanied by an adult.

Dino Island log flume (Land of Adventure)

legoland malaysia trip

The Dino Island log flume is a boat ride with a dinosaur theme. The boat leads around a river with Lego dinosaur exhibits. The Dino Island ends with a splash. Like all the best log flumes that is a huge exciting drop finishing with a massive splash. If you ride to Dino Island log flume all of your clothes will be wet through. Don’t take any cameras, phones or valuables on the Dino Island ride. We recommend doing this activity in swimwear before visiting from Legoland Water Park. Also, be aware that kids need to be at least 110 cm tall and over six years old to ride the Dino Island log flume accompanied by an adult.

The Imagination Zone park

legoland malaysia trip

If you are visiting Legoland Malaysia with a toddler, the Imagination Zone is the place for you. The Imagination Zone is an area of the theme park that has small climbing frames and rides for younger children, such as the Lego train ride.

legoland malaysia trip

We love the fact that the imagination zone is also covered by a large canopy to provide shade from the intense sun.

The remote control boats (Lego City)

legoland malaysia trip

If you are looking for something a bit slower and more serene check out the remote control boats at the Boating Lake in Lego City. This is a great option if you just need to chill out or you are looking for activities with younger children at Legoland. Additional fees apply for this activity.

The Great Lego Race (Lego Technic Zone)

legoland malaysia trip

Welcome to the world’s first virtual reality roller coaster! This roller coaster is designed to be ridden with a virtual reality headset. Experience the acceleration and wind of this roller coaster with a virtual reality simulation headset on.

legoland malaysia trip

Since the covid pandemic Unfortunately they have not been using the VR headset due to the risk of contamination. This roller coaster is still a lot of fun even without the VR headsets.

The Technic Twister (Lego Technic Zone)

Get dizzy on the Technic Twister. On this ride you sit in a compartment with your friends and as the whole platform spins around, you can also spin a wheel in the middle to make your friends even more dizzy.

Legoland express

legoland malaysia trip

This colourful Lego themed train runs a loop route around the park allowing you to look at all of the attractions and fun of the park. The Legoland Express is not a way of getting around, rather a way of relaxing and enjoying the exciting scenery on getting inspired by the range of rides, attractions and shows this amazing park has to offer.

The Miniland exhibitions

And definitely do not miss the Miniland Lego sculptures. Perfect for anyone who loves Lego and travel. The Miniland Lego sculptures are located at the center to Legoland theme park. These impressive multiples of themed on various iconic parts of the world. Don’t miss the Petronas Towers, Angkor Wat Temple, the Taj Mahal and much much more.

Remember, this is only a selection of the amazing rides, activities and shows at Legoland Malaysia. For a full list of

Sea Life at Legoland Malaysia

legoland malaysia trip

Sea life at Legoland Malaysia is in an indoor Aquarium. Sea life has a range of fish tanks and glass tunnels that allow you to get up and close to amazing underwater species. Experience the fascinating, bizarre and beautiful at Sea Life. From colourful starfish to eerie jellyfish and elegant sharks, Sea Life has it all.

legoland malaysia trip

We absolutely love the “touch a starfish” activity. This is great for kinaesthetic learners. Which child doesn’t want to touch some amazing creatures in an aquarium?!

legoland malaysia trip

The seahorse tank is strangely mesmerizing. It feels like you could spend the whole day just gazing at these bizarre animals.

legoland malaysia trip

We were also impressed by the big glass tunnel with a range of larger fish. You can see plenty of black tip reef sharks swimming around this tank. And don’t miss the large strange humphed parrot fish too. And if you want to see something spine-tingling don’t miss the jellyfish tank.

legoland malaysia trip

Sea life at Legoland also has exhibitions and activities to help children understand the importance of protecting, conserving and respecting our oceans.

On a personal note, as a papa who loves scuba diving and free diving, I am so grateful for the opportunity to share this amazing underwater world with my children.

legoland malaysia trip

My youngest son is only 2 years old, and yet he was able to gaze at some of these incredible animals with me. And hopefully this will inspire him by the beauty of our oceans.

legoland malaysia trip

It is possible to walk around this Aquarium in 45 minutes. But in our opinion this would be rushed. Although there are so many exciting things to do in Legoland Malaysia, we would encourage you not to rush Sea Life.

legoland malaysia trip

It is easy to miss how amazing this place is. If you have time, we would really encourage you to slow down and enjoy learning in this beautiful place.

legoland malaysia trip

Top tip: If you have a ticket to access all areas of the park but you are only here for one day, we recommend visiting the aquarium at the hottest part of the day. The aquarium is air conditioned and will provide a restful and enjoyable experience to break up the day.

The Legoland Water Park

legoland malaysia trip

The Legoland water park is right next to the Legoland theme park. At the entrance to the Legoland Water Park there are changing rooms, showers, toilets and lockers.

legoland malaysia trip

The Legoland water park has water activities suitable for every age. They have a lazy river with floating Lego pieces and floating rings. They have a shallow pool for babies and toddlers with small slides and squirty animals.

legoland malaysia trip

They have a large water adventure castle with slides, nets, splash buckets and more. Don’t miss the Legoland wave pool (they have life jackets for non-swimmers) and of course sun loungers so parents can take a well earned break!

legoland malaysia trip

The Legoland water park also has a selection of faster slides for older children: If you are looking for a competitive adrenaline rush try out the mat racer slide. You ride down this speedy slide on your front holding onto a foam mat and see if you can beat your friends to the bottom.

legoland malaysia trip

Alternatively, if you want to have some fun with friends try out the large ring slide. These large rings can accommodate a group. Speed down large funnels and tubes as you pray that your ring doesn’t flip over.

legoland malaysia trip

One of the things we absolutely love about the Legoland water park is, at the bottom of all the faster slides, there is a Lego boat activity. This is great for younger children who are not allowed to ride on the faster slide. You can build a lego boat and then race it down the small waterway.

Can you buy food at Legoland Malaysia?

legoland malaysia trip

Yes you can buy food at Legoland Malaysia. The Legoland Malaysia theme park has a wide range of cafes and restaurants available with different types of food on offer. You can also buy refreshing cold drinks around the park too.

If you are looking for a large range of food and an indoor seating area check out Pizza Mania located in the imagination Zone. Side dishes start with around 10 ringgits each (roughly £2 or $2.50). Expect to pay around 20-30 ringgits for pastas and chicken (roughly £4 – £6 or $5 – $8). Pizzas range between 40 – 60 ringgits (£8 – £12 or $10 – $15) depending on the size and topping.

legoland malaysia trip

The different types of food and prices vary quite a lot throughout the park at different outlets. For example, a burger at the Kings Grill (Lego Kingdoms) costs 100 ringgits (around £20 or $25). If you grab a burger at the Burger Junction in the Land of Adventure it will cost around 40 ringgits (around £8 or $10).

legoland malaysia trip

Some of the food Outlets have vegetarian and vegan food options available. Drinks typically cost 5 – 10 ringgits (around £1 – £2 or $1.30 – $2.50) at most food outlets at Legoland Malaysia. It is worth being aware that they do not have any water fountains or water dispensers to top up water bottles. Cold 500ml water bottles can be purchased from food outlets for around RM4. Be aware that Legoland has a “no outside food” policy.

Are there shops near Legoland Malaysia?

Legoland Malaysia is located next to a small shopping mall Called the Mall of Medini (sounds exotic doesn’t it?) This shopping mall has a supermarket called Big. There are also several small restaurants nearby and a Starbucks.

legoland malaysia trip

Oh yeah and make sure you don’t miss the epic Legoland gift shops too!

What is the resort like at Legoland Malaysia?

legoland malaysia trip

Legoland Malaysia has its very own resort. The Legoland resort is a magical themed hotel, the perfect place to stay and celebrate your time at Legoland. Everything about the Legoland resort screams fun. On the lift you even have a disco ball! And we absolutely love to play areas in the reception too. The rooms in the Legoland resort each have a unique, creative and interesting theme.

legoland malaysia trip

Legoland Hotel guests also get a special offer for the Legoland park: Get 2-Day Combo Ticket to Legoland Theme Park, Water Park and Aquarium for the price of 1-Day Combo Ticket.

How do you get to Legoland Malaysia?

If you are coming from Kuala Lumpur there are several ways to get to Legoland Malaysia from Kuala Lumpur.

1 Take a bus: 5 hours, 70 ringgits

legoland malaysia trip

The cheapest way to get to Legoland Malaysia from Kuala Lumpur to take a bus.

Buses from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru run from the Kuala Lumpur TBS bus station (Terminal Bersepadu Selatan) in the south of Kuala Lumpur. From KL sentral, take the KLIA transit line. If you get off at the first stop (Bandar Tasik Selantan) you can walk across a pedestrian bridge to the TBS bus terminal. It is possible to buy bus tickets on arrival at the terminal or to purchase them in advance online. A bus ticket from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru should cost in the region of 25 to 35 ringgits.

legoland malaysia trip

The Bus Journey from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru will take around 5 hours (including a stop) and drop you off at Larkin bus terminal in Johor Bahru. From the Larkin bus terminal you can’t take a taxi ( use Grab ) to Legoland for around 35 ringgits. This is a long journey we recommend staying at Legoland or nearby. Also if you are travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru by bus in Malaysia, be aware that they do not generally have toilets on board. This can be quite tricky if you are travelling with young kids.

2 Take a train: 8 hours, 90 ringgits

legoland malaysia trip

It is possible to travel from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru by train. However, the journey is quite slow and more expensive than bus.

Another way to get to Johor from Kuala Lumpur is to take a train. That is no single train line running all the way from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru. Instead you need to take an ETS train from KL sentral to Gemas. This leg of the journey takes around two and a half hours. The train from kl sentral to Gemas costs around 30 ringgits. At Gemas you need to change to a KMT train to JB sentral. The second leg of the journey takes around 5 hours. The train from Gemas to JB Sentral costs around 20-30 ringgits. When you arrive at JB Central Station you can take a taxi to Legoland. The taxi will cost in the region of 30-40 ringgits.

3 Take a flight: 1 hour (flight time) 200 ringgits

legoland malaysia trip

Another way to travel from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru is to take a flight. This is a particularly good option if you are short of time. Several Airlines operate the route between Kuala Lumpur on Johor Bahru. For example, AirAsia (the local budget, no thrills airline) operates flights from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru for around 150 ringgits. The flight itself takes around 1 hour. If you are taking short domestic flights, it is very important to consider transit time to and from the airport and additional waiting time at the airport for your total journey time. A taxi from the airport to Legoland is likely to cost around 40-50 ringgits.

Where can you park at Legoland Malaysia?

There is a large carpark located at the entrance to Legoland Malaysia. It costs RM10 per day to park. Take a card when you enter the carpark and then pay at the parking machines at the end of the day.

How does Legoland Malaysia fit into your itinerary?

If you are traveling around Malaysia, here are some ideas of how you can fit Legoland into your itinerary.

It is worth considering which other activities you would like to do around the south of peninsula Malaysia. For example, from Johor Bahru it is very easy to travel over land into Singapore. Alternatively, if you are interested in visiting the historic town of Malacca this is a short bus ride up the coast. If you are looking to visit islands in the south of Malaysia there are also some very beautiful islands, including Rawa Island and Tioman Island. These are great spots for snorkeling and diving.

Legoland Malaysia Review🧱: All You Need To Know! [2024]

Travelling to Malaysia and looking for the ultimate family fun? Want a fun day trip from Singapore? Love Lego and water parks?

Then you’d be crazy not to pay Legoland at Malaysia a visit!

Whether you’re travelling with adults or a family, there is much on offer at this Legoland Johor Bahru. It’s located in Malaysia but in very convenient proximity to Singapore.

We have visited several times with the latest visit being in 2024. My middle son, in particular, is a huge Lego fan and has a bucket list made up of all the Legolands in the world! It is fun for everyone though whether you are a Lego fan or not.

Initially, we wondered what Legoland would be like. Is it like an amusement park? Disneyland? How does the Lego theme work?

Legoland Malaysia Review: All You Need To Know! [2021]

Legoland Malaysia is much more than an amusement park full of rides. While there are fun and thrilling rides in Legoland Malaysia, there is also Lego basically everywhere. There are Lego structures and people everywhere and these are quite impressive. It’s fun spotting new ones as you walk around.

There are also other Lego-themed Legoland Malaysia attractions and activities like 4D movies and Lego building workshops.

But above all, Legoland in Malaysia is a well laid out, beautifully constructed theme park that is lots of fun!

Below, I share my Legoland Malaysia review blog with everything you need to know about the park (including Legoland Water Park Johor Bahru and SEA LIFE Malaysia), as well as tips for visiting including when to visit, how many days, visiting Legoland Johor Bahru Malaysia with kids, where to stay and travel from Singapore to Legoland Malaysia (as well as from Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru).

You can also watch a quick video which shows you a great overview of visiting Legoland Malaysia from the theme park and water park to the hotel and more.

By the end of this Legoland Malaysia theme park review, you are going to be very excited for your visit! Let’s dive in to this Legoland blog.

Legoland Malaysia Address: No 7, Jalan Legoland, Bandar, 79250 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia

Legoland Malaysia Review

Legoland Malaysia

In this Legoland theme park review, I will cover all of the three parts to a Legoland Malaysia tour. The main park itself is where you find the Legoland Malaysia rides, Lego activities, 4D movies, shows and more.

Then there is the Water Park with water slides, pools, water playgrounds and everything water. Finally, you can also visit SEA LIFE Malaysia which is a Lego themed aquarium.

Which parks you visit is totally up to you. It’s cheaper to visit one or there are good value combo tickets where you can visit all three (more about pricing below or click here to see discounted ticket prices ).

I split up the Legoland theme park Malaysia review below by each of these parks. I also discuss the Legoland Malaysia Hotel. This place is great and the perfect accompaniment to your Legoland theme park visit.

This review is based on my experiences of visiting here multiple times with kids aged from 3 years old to 11 years old.

Legoland Malaysia Theme Park Review

Legoland Malaysia map

When visiting Legoland in Johor Bahru, know that the main theme park is definitely the best. This is where you will spend your time walking through different themed lands, going on Legoland rides Malaysia and enjoying everything possible in Lego.

There are seven themed lands and I walk you through each of them in the order you will find them if you walk clockwise around the park. Each land is unique and quite compact and they all have eating and shopping options with many playgrounds around the park as well.

There is also a part at the beginning where you will find lockers to store any of your items, a cafe and shops. You can also hire strollers here.

While there is a strong focus on family activities, a Legoland Malaysia review for adults is that this park is lots of fun even without kids! However, you’ll probably find you get around the park faster and have time to easily visit the Water Park as well in less than a day unless you visit at an ultra busy time.

Whereas if you have kids, on a one day visit, I would just concentrate on this park.

Quite a few activities in Legoland Malaysia are really just for kids, and there aren’t any truly thrilling, huge rides that scare adults.

I highly recommend you find a map of the park before visiting online and have it on your phone. We could not find a paper map in the park and the one I initially found online was out of date which meant we tried to find rides that no longer existed. We wasted a lot of time not having a proper map.

At the time of publishing, this link will take you to a map.

Lego Technic

Legoland Malaysia The Great Lego Race VR Coaster

This first land has some great attractions for kids and adults including the chance to cool down (and get wet) at the Aquazone Wave Racers. There’s also a spinning ride, like a tea cup ride but you can’t spin yourself, Technic Twister.

This is also the place for budding robot builders with specialist robot workshops.

However, the best bit is a cool Legoland Malaysia roller coaster that combines a real roller coaster with virtual reality. As you go around the tracks, traditional roller coaster style, you wear a VR mask so it feels like you are racing Lego cars. It’s very cool! While designed with kids in mind, it is quite thrilling.

Sadly, I am still disappointed I didn’t get to experience the VR part of this ride. We visited on a wet day, so initially, just the roller coaster was running without the VR headsets.

Then, later, when we went back, we lined up again and I found out that even though my youngest son (6) was big enough to go on the ride, they wouldn’t let him wear a VR headset OR the parent sitting next to him. This seemed stupid to me. Either he was big enough to go on the ride or not. We were both very disappointed.

My older kid (11) was allowed, and he absolutely loved it. He is quite fearful of rides, so I had to convince him to try. Then he did it two more times!

This area also has Rebuild The World, a lego play area. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see inside. It was the one area we missed out on. They said it was too full and wouldn’t tell us when we could go in.

This is the one real complaint I have about this theme park as there should be some type of system so you can enter at some point. They wouldn’t let us line up, when a group of ten people left, they still said it was full… We came back later and one group got let in and then it was full again…

What is the point of having it if you can’t go in?

Lego Kingdoms

Legoland Malaysia

Next up is Lego Kingdoms where you will find dragons, castles and knights! There are also some great rides including two roller coasters – a big one and a young kid friendly one.

There are also some great rides for little kids and a big play area.

We went on the smaller roller coaster many times. So much fun!

Imagination

Legoland Malaysia Imagination

The Imagination land is less about Legoland Malaysia theme park rides and more about having fun with Lego and enjoying a 4D cinema which currently shows 5 different movies either hourly or half hourly depending if it’s the weekend or not. They are lots of fun. We even had snow falling in one show when we visited.

We particularly loved the Lego City Officer in Pursuit show, so if this is on when you are there, make sure you see it 🙂

Between this and the Lego activities at the Build and Test area, this is a great area to visit if it starts raining. The Build and Test area is great for kids as you can build cars and race them or buildings and test to see if they can withstand an earthquake. Honestly, it’s fun for adults too.

It can fill up though.

Legoland Malaysia Imagination land with race car building

For toddlers and preschoolers, there is a child-sized city for kids and a train to ride.

Adults will enjoy the Observation Tower which is a rotating, indoor platform that takes you from the ground to high up views over all the theme park including the Legoland Water Park.

It’s easy to spend a lot of time in this area.

Lego Ninjago World

Legoland Malaysia Lego Ninjago The Ride

The newest land in the Legoland park Malaysia, Lego Ninjago World is small but lots of fun.

It centres on the Lego Ninjago ride which uses cutting edge technology to deliver this 4D ride where you will defeat the Grand Devourer with just your hands! It’s quite amazing actually and definitely a must experience on your Legoland Malaysia trip.

There’s also a great live show based on Ninjago in Lego City. Read more about it below.

Land of Adventure

This land actually has two different areas – you can discover the Egyptian area or go to Dino Island Legoland Malaysia.

Dino Island Legoland Malaysia review

At Dino Island, there is a fun, splash ride – one where you ride in a cart up a volcano and past Lego dinosaurs before crashing back down with a huge splash. Expect to get wet. Very wet.

We did this ride when it was already raining a little so we didn’t think it would matter to get wet. However, I was totally drenched! Luckily, I dried pretty quick.

The Egyptian area is mostly about the fun Lost Kingdom Adventure ride where you have a haunted house like experience as you shoot lasers and look for treasure. There is also a playground for younger kids where they can shoot foam balls.

On our most recent visit, we did find the Lost Kingdom Adventure ride a little tired and not working that well. Hopefully, it is part of the big planned upgrade happening this year.

Lego City is the final land for rides at Legoland theme park Johor and there are many Legoland Malaysia activities here especially for kids.

Driving school in Lego City in our review Legoland Malaysia

For a start, kids will love going to “driving school” – ours did! There are two. One for 3 – 5 year olds and one for 6-13 year olds. The good news is that this is included and you don’t need to book ahead (like we had to in Legoland Billund).

This attraction does take awhile though. The line is s l o w. We visited on a wet day without many people when we did this and didn’t have to line up for anything. But the line here, although it was only small, took about 40 minutes. The experience itself, another 20 minutes.

You can also learn how to perform fire rescues by taking a fire engine to put out a fire or go to boating school.

It doesn’t end there as you can fly a plane from the Lego City Airport or take a train ride around the park.

Legoland Malaysia The amazing Ninjago live show

This is also where you will find a big stage with live shows. Currently it’s a Ninjago themed show with puppets. It’s really good! It only ran once a day when we were there, so make sure you get the time and turn up 🙂

Legoland Malaysia Miniland

Finally, in the centre of the park is Miniland. This is where you will find a world created in Lego miniatures. At Legoland Johor Malaysia, it focuses on Malaysia and Asia and you will find Lego replicas of famous landmarks from across the continent.

You can see the Taj Mahal, Tiananmen Square, Singapore, Angkor Wat, Kuala Lumpur International Airport and more. You can also read some fascinating facts like that it took over 100 people working on this Miniland from across the world a year and a half to build this miniland. Now, there’s a job to aim for!

Legoland Malaysia miniland

I must admit that before taking a trip to Legoland Malaysia, I thought that the miniland would be boring. But it’s really not at all, and I was really excited to get home and write this theme park Legoland review! The attention to detail is amazing and I could stare at some of these scenes for a long time, especially the moving parts.

HOWEVER, on our most recent visit, Miniland was undergoing a major renovation. While it was still open with things to see, it definitely wasn’t at its best and some parts, like the airport, had been removed. I look forward to seeing how awesome it looks when it’s all finished.

Legoland Malaysia

All in all, my Legoland Johor review found a very fun, well presented and top class theme park that I have been happy to return to multiple times over the years.

One of the best parts is that we have barely had to line up any time with have visited. Our most recent visit was two days – one of which coincided with a public holiday AND the start of school holidays in both Malaysia and Singapore. We still didn’t line up much, but did hit problems with the Lego building areas as mentioned above.

The other day we visited rained for the first few hours. This was a little frustrating as we couldn’t tell what was open or not in the park, but we did find plenty still to do. The huge upside was that barely anyone was there and everything opened up throughout the day.

Some rides we enjoyed during the rain was the Lego City driving school (this still had a slow line though), the smaller roller coaster in Lego Kingdoms and the rides in Land of Adventure. Of course, this is the perfect time to head to one of the 4D shows or Lego building experiences as well.

The downside of not many people is that the park is lacking some of the atmosphere we experienced at other Legolands, but I’d take easy access to rides any day over more people.

I do wish this park had an app. I am used to theme parks having them now, so I was surprised Legoland Malaysia does not. It would have been really handy to find out what time shows are on and which rides were open in the rain. Failing that, a map with show times would have been super handy too. I struggle to understand why they have got rid of anything that tells you what’s happening in the park.

However, these are small issues compared to how much fun this park is. I highly recommend that you visit this part of the theme park while visiting Johor Bahru Legoland.

Legoland Water Park Malaysia Review

Legoland Malaysia water park lazy river

Right next door to the main Legoland theme park Johor Bahru is the Water Park. It is very easy to visit these two attractions on the same visit. Reading Legoland water park reviews ahead of our visit, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was a massive hit with our family and we all had a great time!

But more importantly, our Legoland Malaysia Water Park review found a super fun theme park which is perfect for cooling down after a visit to the theme park as it’s very hot.

There are many water slides, a massive water playground, a toddler water play area, a wave pool, a lazy river ride (where you can build your own Lego raft) and some activity areas like a table where you can build a boat and then race it.

The park is well designed. When our kids were little, we loved that one of us adults could stay with the kids building boats and racing them right at the bottom of the water slides, so the other could try them out.

Trying to build a raft to take on the lazy river was lots of fun although seemingly impossible for us! There are lots of big pieces of Lego floating around that you can join together. Some people had made some great ones!

Or you can use a tube instead which is much easier. I preferred floating round in a life jacket though. It’s hot here and I’d rather be in the water than above it 🙂

I did find just a couple of the lego bricks can make it a little easier to float around.

The water playgrounds are great for younger kids and there’s some “Imagination Stations” where the kids can play with water and Lego too.

water playground at Legoland Malaysia Water Park - Lego land

The big Legoland Malaysia swimming pool with waves is fun but the waves are on the small side. Our young kids were able to wear life jackets and float around quite happily in there. When my kids got older, it got a little boring.

Like the theme park next door, this park is focused on family fun so it’s not for the adrenaline junkies. However, there’s plenty that adults can enjoy and I would still be happy to visit without kids. We (along with kids) enjoyed the water slides. Now my kids are 6 and 11 years old, they went on every single water slide and loved them.

All in all, our Water Park Legoland Malaysia review found a fun, but low key, water park. What it lacks in super thrilling rides, it makes up for in fun Lego themed activities. It is definitely worth visiting here as well as the main theme park if you have enough time (see more below about how long you need to visit Legoland Malaysia!).

You don’t need more than half a day, but if you love pools and water slides, it’s fun!

We found visiting here after 4pm to be the best as most people were packing up and going at 5pm. It was easy to go on the water slides as much as we wanted, especially in the last half hour.

SEA LIFE Malaysia Review

Legoland Malaysia SEA LIFE

SEA LIFE Malaysia is the newest addition in this Legoland Malaysia blog having only opened in 2019. It’s basically an aquarium with 11 different zones (based on different habitats) to pass through. It has a very loose Lego theming.

We finally got to visit it on my last visit so I added it to this Legoland review Malaysia. This way, you know exactly what to see in Legoland Malaysia and can make a decision if this aquarium is right for you.

Legoland Malaysia SEA LIFE touch tank

In SEA LIFE Malaysia, you can watch stingrays, jellyfish, seahorses, walk through a 180° ocean tunnel looking out for sharks or experience a Malaysian rainforest. There is a touch pool with starfish and sea cucumbers. You can see baby sharks up close here too.

Our Sea Life Legoland Malaysia review found a beautifully presented centre, and there are staff along the way to answer any questions and tell you what you are seeing. There are also regular presentations.

The main part my kids loved was where you can colour in a fish or other sea creature and submit it. It then gets added to a big screen of other sealife kids have made projected on a wall.

We actually did a similar activity to this at Lego House in Billund, Denmark, although there, we were able to make the fish out of Lego!

This is the only part of the aquarium where we spent more than a few minutes and we were done all up in about 20 minutes.

This aquarium is small, and it’s only very loosely Lego themed. We enjoyed touching the starfish and learning more about them, and it does stand out among aquariums thanks to the readily available staff.

Legoland Malaysia SEA LIFE tunnel

BUT, we, like most people, come to Legoland for Legoland! And it felt a bit like we were wasting our time here when we could be at the main theme park or the water park. We didn’t find anything wrong in out Legoland Sea Life Malaysia review. It’s just not as cool as your other options.

Other reviews of SEA LIFE Malaysia are generally good except for complaints that it’s small for the price. We have to agree.

If you buy a discounted combo ticket , it’s included but a standalone ticket is not worth it, in my opinion. We had the combo ticket, or I wouldn’t have come here.

Whether to visit or not really depends on if you have enough time. Aquariums are in many cities – including the amazing SEA Aquarium in Singapore or the Aquaria Kuala Lumpur – so if you are short on time, I would stick to the main theme park and water park instead which are more unique to Legoland.

Unfortunately, at the time of our visit, the Ocean Tank and Ocean Tunnel Area are closed indefinitely. I hope they open soon as it really needs something to add some WOW factor.

Legoland Malaysia Promotion And Ticket Price

If my Legoland JB review has you all set to, you are probably wondering what the Legoland Malaysia ticket price is…

Legoland Malaysia ticket entry, Legoland, Johor

Well this does vary depending on how many parks you want to visit and if you purchase the ticket beforehand online through a Legoland Malaysia ticket promotion or pay at the gate. There are also discounts for kids and a cheaper 2-day rate.

At the time of publishing, the Legoland Malaysia price if you buy direct or at the gate is RM249 to just visit the main theme park for the day for an adult or the Legoland Johor Bahru ticket price is RM399 to visit all parks in a day.

The cheapest way to get a ticket for Legoland Malaysia is to buy a Legoland Malaysia promo ticket from Klook before you visit.

At the time of publishing, instead of the regular Legoland Malaysia entrance fee of RM249 for one park or RM399 for the Legoland Malaysia combo ticket, via this Legoland Malaysia promotion 2024, you will pay only RM205 for the main park or RM325 for the combo ticket.

This is a big saving and I recommend you definitely buy your tickets via Klook by clicking here via this Legoland Malaysia ticket promotion 2024. This is the best way to get cheap Legoland Malaysia tickets.

We always use Klook for all our activities and tours in Malaysia when we can and they are 100% reliable, trustworthy and save us a lot of money.

Legoland Water Park review, Legoland reviews

If you are Malaysian, there are cheaper prices available to you – Klook still beats the prices you can find direct at Legoland though. Just make sure you book the price on Klook for a MyKad holder.

On Klook, you can also buy tickets for just the Water Park or SEA LIFE or purchase a 2 day combo ticket.

The two day combo ticket is the best value and not available through Legoland directly so make sure you book on Klook.

We absolutely loved having the two day combo ticket. We got to really enjoy the park. The huge upside of the combo ticket is that you can also exit and re-enter parks which you can’t with a single park pass.

This meant we went to the theme park and the water park on both days and could come out for lunch or to take a time-out in our hotel.

Legoland Malaysia, Lego land Malaysia review

There were also some extra special options but these have not been available (yet) since the pandemic. So there are currently no fast pass options. We have never needed one at this park anyway as it has never had many lines when we have visited.

Legoland Malaysia Food

Legoland Malaysia Burger Junction menu

You don’t have to worry about going hungry – there are plenty of restaurants in Legoland Malaysia as well as food carts scattered around the park. However, most of it is fried and junk food. If you have a combo ticket, you are allowed to leave the park and there are eating options just outside if you would like more options. However, be aware that if you have a one day ticket you will not be able to leave to eat and then come back in again.

Legoland Malaysia Burger Junction

Legoland Malaysia restaurant prices are a little crazy. It cost about RM120 for me to eat at a burger place with my two kids. The servings were big though, and we could have spent less had we realised this. It was like we had suddenly entered the US with the huge burgers. Unfortunately, it also tasted disgusting and we ate outside the park the next day.

If you don’t want to pay for overpriced food, you could bring some snacks of your own with you.

Legoland Malaysia Shop

The main Legoland shop Malaysia

If you love Lego, this is a great place to buy some! Or a souvenir Legoland Malaysia item.

There are many shops throughout the park as well as a big one at the entrance/exit and you won’t have any problems finding something/many things to buy! There’s some great Lego here which makes the perfect souvenir.

There are also shops in the Legoland Hotel, Water Park and SEA LIFE.

Legoland Malaysia With Kids

Legoland Malaysia is seriously made for families and it’s perfect for kids – there’s plenty to do for kids who are over the age of 5, and there are some things to do at Legoland Malaysia for toddlers as well.

However as someone with young kids, I know how much you can obsess over visiting big theme parks like Legoland Malaysia. We thought long and hard before visiting Legoland Malaysia and, in fact, decided against visiting on our first visit to Johor Bahru when our kids were 1 and 2.

I think this was the right decision when they were that young. On the upside, kids under 3 are free (except there is a mandatory swim nappy fee at the Water Park), but on the downside there are height restrictions and it’s going to be limited what young toddlers and babies can do.

Legoland Malaysia drivign school

There was a pamphlet available of activities specifically for two year olds, and it is quite long thanks to there being many play areas and Lego tables by rides for younger siblings. I would not hesitate to take a 1 or 2 year old had I had older kids as well, but with just little ones, I am glad we waited for the next visit.

Legoland Malaysia rides height limit obviously varies based on the ride. If your kid is over 105cm then they are fine and can go on everything. Our 5 year old went on everything and loved it.

Many rides have a height restriction varying from 80 – 105cm. I saw a few kids under 105cm miss out on rides and be very upset. The staff are great at measuring anyone remotely close to the height requirement, so don’t think you can sneak your kid on.

There is often a second height requirement where your kid can go on, but needs an adult to go with them.

If you’re wondering how big is Legoland Malaysia, then the answer is: Big! There is a lot of walking at the main theme park so for younger kids, take a stroller or hire one there. We hired one for our three year old who was a runner (as in he liked to run away from us regularly so this made life easier!) and he fit fine. There is a lot of stroller parking.

On one of our visits, I was 19 weeks pregnant which really cut back what I could do.

Legoland Malaysia water park boat racing

The Water Park is great for kids of all ages with toddlers having their own play area. They can easily float in the lazy river or use the wave pool with parents.

If your kids are older, then there’s no need to hesitate at all. I’m sure they will love Legoland Malaysia. If they are teens who want high action rides then there may be an issue, but even teens can love the Lego activities.

All in all, I highly recommend this park for families. It’s fantastic. The only reason to think twice is if all your kids are under 3 and you know you will get other opportunities to visit.

When To Visit Legoland Malaysia?

Weather-wise, Johor Bahru has a warm and wet tropical climate that’s similar to Singapore’s and there is little difference in the weather from month to month. That does mean that there can be showers or downpours at any time, and it’s a good idea to prepare for both rain and shine (bring both the sunscreen and wet weather gear) for your day at Legoland Malaysia.

I recommend looking up Malaysian and Singapore school holidays and avoiding them to have the least people are the park. However, our last visit was in April in Easter holidays for Australians, but it was also the start of Eid celebrations, a long weekend and start of school holidays in Malaysia and Singapore! But it was still fine crowd wise.

Our previous visit had been mid January and the parks were blissfully empty. We could basically stay on the rides as long as we wanted. At this time of year, we went on both a weekday and a weekend. The weekend had more people but the lines were still basically non existent.

Legoland Malaysia Miniland

How Many Days To Visit?

We love the 2-day combo pass and find two full days (so three nights) is a great time limit to take it easy and also enjoy the features of the Legoland Hotel.

You need one day to visit the main park. You could squeeze in the Water Park or SEA LIFE too, particularly if you are just adults and will skip a lot of the attractions.

We arrived at the Water Park at 4pm on our first day and were able to do everything easily in two hours there, and it was nice to cool down at the end of a busy day at the theme park.

However, we skipped some of the activities at the main theme park to do this (which we did the next day).

If you try to do it all in one day, you will be rushed, so the 2 day pass can be a much more relaxed option to take.

The combo tickets are great because you can go back and forth between the parks or exit and go eat and come back. If you buy just a one day ticket for one park, you can’t exit at all so this is something else to consider too.

Check out the ticket options here.

Where Is Legoland Malaysia?

Legoland Malaysia is located just outside of Johor Bahru about a 25 minute drive from the centre of Johor Bahru (JB) or an hour from the centre of Singapore depending on traffic and how busy the border area is. You can see the exact Legoland Malaysia location on the map below.

It is easy to travel Legoland Malaysia and below we have exact information about getting from JB to Legoland, exactly how to get to Legoland Malaysia from Singapore as well as how to go to Legoland Malaysia from Kuala Lumpur.

Note that there is sometimes confusion about where Legoland is located – there is no Legoland in Kuala Lumpur. If you’re searching for Legoland Kuala Lumpur, know that you will have to travel to Johor Bharu to visit Legoland. The best way to get from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bharu is to take a private taxi , or you could take the bus (not recommended for a day trip). Scroll down for full instructions on how to get from KL to Legoland Malaysia.

If you are looking for the closest Legoland Malaysia airport, this is the Senai International Airport in Johor Bahru. However, you can go directly from Singapore International Airport to Legoland. It is further and can cost more, but depending on where you are coming from, this can be a valid option and is how we travel here from Australia.

How To Go From Johor Bahru To Legoland Malaysia

It’s quite easy to get to Legoland Malaysia from Johor Bahru. You can catch a taxi for the 25 minute-ish trip. The Grab app is a great way to get a taxi with a fixed price and no need to bargain.

There is also a bus, LM1, from JB Larkin from RM5.40.

If you are coming from the airport, you can book a shuttle directly to Legoland here.

Legoland Malaysia Land Of Adventures how to go Legoland Malaysia

How To Go To Legoland Malaysia From Singapore

It’s quite possible to day trip from Singapore to Legoland Malaysia. You can do this on a Legoland Malaysia tour from Singapore ( here’s one ) or take a Legoland Malaysia bus.

There are many options for a bus to Legoland Malaysia. You can find them here . Make sure you pick an option dropping you off at Legoland itself.

You can also take an easy Legoland Malaysia shuttle bus to Singapore which only stops in two places in Singapore which helps make this journey faster. Click here for more details.

This is the option I most recommend for a combination of ease plus time at the Legoland. The day tour above can take longer to get there cutting your time short.

However, the best option to get to Legoland Malaysia from Singapore is to take your own private taxi. I can book this for you here with a reliable local operator. It only costs SG$90 each way for up to five people (larger vehicles available) and you can choose when to go.

Unlike buses, you don’t have to exit the vehicle at each side of the border so it’s by far the quickest and most comfortable option which makes it especially attractive if you are just doing a day trip to Legoland Malaysia.

Click here for more information about booking your own private taxi to Legoland.

The Singapore to Legoland Malaysia travel time really depends on traffic, where in Singapore you are coming from and how quickly you get through the border area. An approximate time driving or in a taxi from the middle of Singapore is an hour if it’s a good time of day.

The travel time from Singapore to Legoland Malaysia on a bus will be longer with everyone needing to pass through immigration on both sides of the border.

You can find full instructions for how to get to Legoland from Singapore here . If you are looking for a Legoland package from Singapore, read this article.

Want the Easiest (and BEST) Way to travel between Singapore and Legoland?

We can book a taxi for you from anywhere in Singapore directly to Legoland for a great price.

A taxi is the best way to cross the border as you don’t have to leave the air-conditioned comfort of your vehicle, and you can have maximum time at Legoland.

Click here for prices and online booking.

How To Go From Kuala Lumpur To Legoland Malaysia

First of all, Kuala Lumpur is not that close to Legoland Malaysia and I wouldn’t recommend this on a day trip. However, it is possible and quite easy for people who are short on time and don’t mind a long day.

Legoland Malaysia to Kuala Lumpur is a 3.5 hour drive. If you do this, I recommend you either hire a car or book a private taxi (preferable – you can book one with a driver here ), There is plenty of Legoland Malaysia parking once you reach here.

You can also book a day tour to Legoland Malaysia here which cuts out the need to buy a ticket to Legoland as well.

It’s also possible to take a regular public bus to Johor Bahru from Kuala Lumpur ( find the prices and timetables here ) and then a local bus to Legoland. However, I definitely do not recommend this for a day trip. You will waste too much time.

However, if you plan to stay in Johor Bahru , this is how I would do it if you don’t want to pay for a private taxi . The train from KL to Johor Bahru is not direct, so that is also a far more time consuming way to reach JB.

Other Legoland Malaysia Tips

Legoland Malaysia Water Park water slides and some tips Legoland Malaysia

Here are some final tips for visiting Legoland Malaysia:

  • You can enter the main theme park ten minutes early. However, you can only stand in the entry part. There is an opening show and then you can enter the park right on 10am. Make it to this opening show so you are all set to go.
  • If it’s not raining, do outdoor attractions at the Legoland theme park first. I recommend doing a circuit of the park doing the outdoor attractions and then another doing the indoor ones if/when it starts raining.
  • If it starts raining, I recommend getting to the Imagination Land as quick as you can where there is the 4D cinema and other activities to do indoors.
  • Take wet weather gear. There are ponchos for sale inside the park if you get stuck. Use a poncho for the Dino Island ride if you have one!
  • If you have a combo ticket, you have the option to exit the park for more food options outside.
  • With a one park ticket, you can’t re-enter if you leave the park so don’t exit until you are done.
  • You can take your own food to save money.
  • I only saw one woman at the Water Park not wearing a t-shirt style swim suit so you may not feel comfortable in a bikini (but it is allowed).
  • As for a Legoland Malaysia dress code, you must wear proper swimming attire at the Water Park and no wet suits. Wear comfortable shoes for the theme park – you will do a lot of walking and be mindful that it’s hot and humid and dress appropriately.
  • Take plenty of sunscreen.

Where To Stay At Legoland Malaysia

Although you can 100% visit Legoland Malaysia in a day trip from Singapore, I don’t recommend it if you can avoid it. It’s a long day and it’s cheaper, easier and much more fun to stay on site! Plus if you have kids who love Lego, why not extend the fun and stay in the Lego hotel that’s right next door?

Legoland Malaysia Hotel

Legoland Hotel Malaysia

Legoland Malaysia Hotel is the ultimate Lego experience for Lego fans as we show in this Legoland hotel Malaysia review. Not only is it located right at the theme park, but it has cool Lego themed rooms, activities, Lego character meet ups and is just a lot of fun. In fact, this is my favourite hotel in Malaysia for families.

The rooms are built for families with two separate sleeping areas. One for adults and one for kids with a bunk bed, trundle and their own TV. The best part is that they come in a range of themes – you can choose between a pirate, kingdom, Ninjago or adventure theme.

Legoland Hotel Malaysia Adventure themed room Kids room

Throughout the day, there are scheduled activities from dance parades to meeting your favourite character to nightly movies. There is also a cool treasure chest in your room that you can open by solving puzzles! There’s a small lego gift in here for each of your kids.

The hotel also has a swimming pool, Lego themed play area and restaurant. It’s unreal!

Click here to check dates and latest prices or you can read my full review of this hotel here.

We absolutely loved staying here and it really added to our Legoland experience. You can see more of the hotel in the video above.

You can also stay in Johor Bahru and commute. Here are my picks for the best hotels near Legoland.

Final Words

We LOVE Legoland Malaysia. It’s so much fun, it’s a beautiful park and it’s perfect for families. From the rides to the pools to shows to building lots of Lego, we love it.

It’s been so great to get to visit it when it’s not crowded and this puts it way above any other theme park we have visited anywhere in the world (and we have been to a lot including Legoland Billund – the original – and Legoland California). It’s so easy spending two days here when you don’t have to worry about lines. Our daughter probably rode on roller coasters twenty times and that’s on top of us doing everything else possible.

Lego Kingdoms at Legoland malaysia

The Water Park is on the small side but it is a fun companion to the main theme park and, again, perfect for families. My only complaint about this is that there aren’t many shaded areas at this park to sit.

Legoland Malaysia is definitely aimed at kids and families. A couple of the roller coasters are thrilling but adrenaline junkies are likely to be disappointed.

And while I do recommend Legoland for adults, expect to get through it quickly if there aren’t crowds, don’t expect huge adrenaline rushes and expect that many activities and attractions won’t be for you.

It’s also in a very convenient location close to Singapore and I plan to visit here many more times in the future!

12 LEGOLAND Malaysia tips to make the most of your visit

12 LEGOLAND Malaysia tips to make the most of your visit

Are you planning a trip to LEGOLAND Malaysia? Then read on for our ultimate LEGOLAND Malaysia tips to get the most out of your visit.

During a visit to Legoland Malaysia, you’re sure to hear their theme tune multiple times throughout the day. ‘Everything is Awesome’ plays on loop around the park, soon getting stuck in your head but is it also a fair description of the park itself?

Conveniently located near Singapore and Johor Bahru, Legoland Malaysia is actually three parks in one, hosting a Theme Park, Water Park, and SEA LIFE aquarium. Predominately aimed at younger children, the theme park is a fun experience for the whole family and, on hotter days, the water park is a welcome option if you fancy cooling down.

With so much to see and do, it pays to be prepared in advance and know what to expect. Check out these Legoland Malaysia tips which we’ve put together to get the most out of your visit to Legoland Malaysia.

legoland malaysia trip

1. Stay in Legoland Hotel to maximise your time

Whilst not the cheapest accommodation option in the surrounding area, a stay in the Legoland Hotel Malaysia is not to be missed, especially if you have a Lego-fanatic in your family. From the moment you arrive, you’re thrust into the world of Lego with themed-rooms, Lego bricks to play with, kid-friendly dining, all with easy access to the park before and after your visit.

It’s quite expensive, prices from RM850 per night for a family room including breakfast, but as a one-off splurge, it ticks a lot of boxes.

LEGOLAND Hotel Malaysia review

2. Check for park closures

Each of the three areas of the park close on various days each month for maintenance. Make sure you check in advance on the Legoland website before booking your stay. If one of the parks is closed, it’ll have a knock-on effect, making the others busier.

3. Try to visit outside of weekends and school holidays

There is a very large population within a 20km radius, so the parks do get super busy on weekends and public holidays.

Whilst there is always a steady flow of international visitors, if you visit on a weekday, you’ll find the parks are substantially quieter, giving you more time on the rides. Do also note that local Malaysia school holidays don’t align with European, US, or Australian school holidays, as well as those of Malaysian international schools.

4. Make sure you measure up

One of the most annoying factors when visiting theme parks with younger children are the height restrictions in place for different rides. There can’t be many more sad sights than a small child being told they can’t go on a ride, whilst their older siblings skip ahead to join the queue.

The Legoland website has a handy page which lets you enter your child’s height to see which rides they can and can’t access. It’s a good idea to do this both before booking (in case they’re too short to make the visit worthwhile), and then on the day of your visit so you can set expectations and plan ahead.

The Theme Park and Water Park are aimed at younger visitors so the height restrictions aren’t quite as strict as some other theme parks around the world. In general, once they’re above 105cm, most of the rides at the park will be fine, though they may need an adult to accompany them until they reach 120cm.

5. Plan in advance

At the Theme Park in particular, it’s a good idea to download the map from the website and see which rides you want to head towards first. As with all theme parks, the rides closest to the entrance get busier early in the day so try to venture further into the park when you first arrive.

During our visit to the Theme Park, the Great Lego Race and Dragon were very popular but were quietest in the morning. Although do keep in mind that some rides don’t open straightaway, they seem to need extra maintenance or checks before opening.

legoland malaysia trip

At the Water Park, the queues tend to be more evenly distributed. SEA LIFE doesn’t have any specific rides as such, so there is less need to plan in advance.

6. Book activities ahead

There are a couple of attractions at the Theme Park which need to be booked when you arrive including Lego Mindstorms (a cool indoor coding experience where kids get the chance to program Lego vehicles to move around a track). During our visit, numbers were quite low so booking wasn’t strictly required, but it pays to pop in and get your name down in any case, that way they’ll know you’re interested and you can just turn up five minutes before your slot.

legoland malaysia trip

Unlike at other Legolands we’ve visited (such as Windsor and Billund ), the Driving School wasn’t pre-bookable, instead you just turn up and queue.

7. Don’t get too excited about your dining options

There are several restaurants in both the Theme and Water Parks, all of the same (quite limited) quality. Don’t expect the best dining experience but the food is reasonably filling with a relatively decent selection (but not for vegetarians or vegans).

For some reason, the menus are hidden from view until you get quite close to the ordering station, which makes it difficult to decide in advance and adds to the queues. If you’re a fan of burgers and pizzas it’s fine, otherwise some compromise is needed.

There are supermarkets and restaurants opposite the park in the Mall of Medini which are useful for grabbing some supplies before or after your visit. The choice is better and the prices more reasonable. Note that you can’t re-enter the park with a Day ticket, so popping out for food and then re-entering the park isn’t possible.

8. Book tickets in advance

Tickets (both day and annual passes) can be bought in advance on the Legoland website; if you’re planning to visit more than once in a year, the annual passes work out at better value. As with everywhere in Malaysia, international visitors will pay substantially more than locals.

Do check tickets on Klook though, as there are often discounts:

Once the ticket has been purchased, you can show it on your mobile phone (or a printout) at the entrance gate, saving you any further queuing.

legoland malaysia trip

Tickets can be bought as single, double or triples park passes (e.g. you can visit either one, both, or all of Theme Park, Water Park, and SEA LIFE aquarium).

Check the Legoland website for current prices.

9. Don’t try to do too much

If you wanted to, you could buy a one-day pass to cover access to all three parks, but this would probably be too tiring. If you have the time (ideally combined with a hotel stay ), try to only visit one park per day. You might be able to combine SEA LIFE with one other park if you are short of time, but trying to do the Theme Park and Water Park in one day would be too much.

It’s better to take your time, especially as the parks get quieter towards the end of the day, and you’ll have time then to skip the queues and get more rides in.

legoland malaysia trip

10. Forget fast-track

Unlike many other theme parks around the world, Legoland Malaysia doesn’t offer any sort of Fast-Track ticketing system. We actually preferred this as it kept the cost down, and there weren’t any occasions where we lost our place at the front of the queue.

Visitor numbers were quite low during our visit anyway, so it wouldn’t have made much difference to us; queuing may be more of an issue on busier days.

11. Save some time and money for the shops

You don’t quite exit via the gift shop at Legoland Malaysia, but there is still a huge Lego store near the exit, drawing in visitors for one final purchase. The selection is vast, with surprisingly reasonable prices. There are also some items on offer which are unique to Legoland Malaysia, so it’s definitely worth a visit.

The shop does close quite soon (30 minutes) after the rides close so don’t leave it too late. We were politely ushered towards the exit during our visit, fulfilling our usual objective of being one of the last guests to leave a theme park.

12. Check out Miniland

Don’t fall into the trap of thinking all Minilands (where landmarks and cities are replicated with LEGO bricks) are the same. In fact, Minilands are different at LEGOLANDs across the world. Billund’s Miniland is very different to Dubai’s Miniland, and this is also the case with LEGOLAND Malaysia.

There is very much an Asian theme to LEGOLAND Malaysia, and we loved spotting all the famous landmarks we’d visited on our Southeast Asia trip.

How cool does Angkor Wat look in LEGO? Visiting Angkor Wat was an absolute highlight of our time in Cambodia with kids .

Final thoughts on LEGOLAND Malaysia

Legoland Malaysia is a brilliant theme park complex, especially when you realise it contains three parks in one.

The target audience is fairly young, perhaps kids over the age of 10 or 11 might find the rides slightly too tame, although the larger slides at the Water Park are lots of fun for all ages.

We had a really fun visit, the Lego theming throughout is perfect and you feel fully immersed in the Lego world. There were enough rides to keep us there until the park began to close; the Virtual 3D Great Lego Race was a complete highlight and one of the best rides we’ve ever been on.

Staying in the LEGOLAND Malaysia hotel before and afterwards is highly recommended, it’s great to be able to walk back to your room after a long day and not worry about the long journey home.

You’ll be humming the theme tune for days to come but it is true: at Legoland Malaysia, everything really is awesome!

Legoland, Malaysia (Day Trip Guide and Details)

legoland malaysia trip

What to expect in Legoland, Malaysia? Have you ever consider this in your itinerary for Malaysia Trip?

I’m sure you have heard  about the Lego and small toys we used to play, the imaginations we create as we build blocks and houses when we were kids. Tons of variations and many kids and kids at heart were pretty ecstatic to come and visit the Legoland when it officially opened 5 years ago (2012).

Planning for my Malaysia Trip, Legoland was one on top of my mind to visit as well. Being one of the famous Theme Park in Asia, one must not missed it. We may be adult already but who knows and would also be better to come and see what the theme park has to offer too.

This Legoland Trip was part of my (6D / 5N trip to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, 2 Days was spent in KL, 1 Day for Legoland and 3 Days for Singapore) please see link to read full details of the trip : Malaysia – Singapore (DIY Trip for 6D / 5N Full Itinerary, Budget & Guide) The first 2 days was spent in Kuala Lumpur, please see link for full itinerary : Malaysia for 3D / 2N Trip (DIY, Complete Itinerary, Guide and Budget)

Other guide will tell you that Legoland is located far from the city proper of KL, which is true! What I did was to go all the way to Legoland from KL then head to cross Singapore at the same time. There were some traveler who go all the way first to Singapore then just return to Malaysia for Legoland. I have thought of the same route however, crossing border between Malaysia and Singapore could eat up more time than maximizing first everything in Malaysia before heading to Singapore.

So Read On.

HOW TO GO TO LEGOLAND FROM KUALA LUMPUR?

  • If you are a light traveller and riding the train won’t hurt you, you may also do so. Alight at Bandar Tasik Selatan Station VIA Rapid KL LRT, the KTM Komuter Train OR KL Transit airport fast train  going to TBS Terminal.
  • You may do earlier reservation with the bus terminals if you prefer keeping everything in advance
  • It was a 4 hours travel time going to Larkin Bus Terminal (Causeway Bus was one of the best I’ve seen from TBS, you may sleep in the bus and recharge for a day full of activity, there are outlet but be sure you have an adaptor that would fit in)

IMG20170722125400

  • make sure you have small bills for bus payment, oftentimes they don’t give change anymore, you only drop the money as you enter the bus *so better to move fast as the bus does not stay in the terminal for long
  • there is also a specific time of bus schedule available going to Legoland *refer to the table below
  • the same bus will take you to Hello Kitty Sanrio Land if you also want to visit the theme park before Legoland

GOING BACK TO KUALA LUMPUR FROM LEGOLAND?

  • From Legoland, ride a bus bound to Larkin Bus Terminal — Rate is RM 3.40 (it would take longer going back to Larkin Terminal
  • From Larkin Bus Terminal, ride a bus bound to KL and you’ll be heading straight back to TBS Terminal

If you will be heading straight to Singapore after Legoland also read the detailed post her : *detailed post to follow

RATES AND ATTRACTIONS:

For the attractions and theme park, I make it to a point to pay it ahead of my scheduled trip, in this way I get to spend less on this particulars during my trip.

For my Legoland entrance, I booked thru Klook.com I got my 1 all day entrance at the theme park for P1,230.00 instead of P1,800 worth from the official site of Legoland. Klook offers discounts on attractions entrances and it would save you from lining up as well once you are in the area. Just don’t forget to print a copy of your voucher and show it to the entrance.

You have three options to choose from : Theme Park Ticket, Water Park, or Combo — both the theme park and water park). If you have kids with you, combo ticket could be a great buy for it lets you maximize everything for a day at a discounted rate.

Capture

The theme park would probably be enjoyed with kids as they check out each kiddie rides.

No need to worry about your luggage as Legoland offers lockers perfect whatever size you are carrying. Everything was automated and it was very organized and systematic.

We paid RM 30 for 4 hours rental and both my luggage and my bestfriends’ luggage could all fit in it.

IMG_3092

Weather in Malaysia was relatively hot and humid! Make sure to dress up properly, and Ice Cream will do the trick.

There were rides inside the Legoland that are air conditioned which is great to spend a hot afternoon. I have a cap with me, an umbrella and a pair of shades, wear sunblock for the striking sun also.

IMG20170722161819

Spent the entire afternoon in the Theme Park, souvenirs can also be bought. And the kids would surely enjoy this theme park.

It was still nothing compare with the rest of the theme park we had in the Philippines as rides were still very basic. However, it is the structures and the Lego made designs inside the theme park that made it stand out.  Every part of it is photo worthy and well thought off.

Highlight of the theme park was the 4D Lego experience, so make sure to check for its time also. Food and restaurants are available inside Legoland, prices were reasonable and you wouldn’t worry too much of spending. If not, you may also eat at KFC and other fast food chain just within the area outside Legoland.

Here’s the detailed summary with expenses for my Legoland Trip *please take note that this is based from my own travel experience.

day 3 - legoland

After staying in the park the entire afternoon, our next stop — cross country to Singapore.

Hope this could help you plan for your travel as well.

Not as big as the one in Nagoya, but still so much fun. We already came several times. Queue is bad during peak holiday time, so plan your visit well. Parking is all outdoor, huge and spacious. The food price in the theme park is reasonable, taste decent. Staffs all are friendly. Great selection of souvenirs at the store. Recommended if your kid is a fan of lego.

An Awesome Legoland Malaysia Review & How to Get from Singapore to Legoland

Like it? Share it!

Last Updated on November 25, 2022 by Ariana Svenson

Like the song goes, everything is awesome at Legoland Malaysia.  We had a truly awesome time at the Legoland Malaysia Theme Park and it was our kid’s favourite place in over 3 weeks of travel.  There are many Legoland Malaysia reviews out there on the internet.  Therefore what could we offer you that is different than other Legoland Malaysia review blogs?

An Awesome Legoland Malaysia Review & How to Get from Singapore to Legoland

First up, we are going to share with you what we did at Legoland Malaysia Theme Park and Water Park over 2 days, starting with how we got from Singapore to Legoland and why that was a great choice!  We are also going to share with you how we managed the heat at Legoland Malaysia Theme Park and what we did to get our tickets to Legoland Singapore.  Last up, we’ll share some of our favourite activities for our kids aged 5 and 9.  We did our trip to Legoland as part of a trip to Singapore.  Check out our 5 Day Singapore Itinerary For Families for more information.

An Awesome Legoland Malaysia Review & How to Get from Singapore to Legoland

Spoiler Alert- Managing the heat was big for us!

At the end of our review we’ll throw in some extras, including a Legoland Hotel Malaysia review and also our ideas about good places to stay or a hotel near Legoland Malaysia!

This post may contain affiliate links, from which we would earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. More info in my disclaimer.

Our holiday at legoland malaysia theme park – a brief overview.

Our day started at 7.30am at our hotel in Singapore, the Village Hotel Bugis which we strongly recommend for families travelling to Singapore.

For our travel from Singapore to Legoland Malaysia we hired a private car that we purchased online .  We were allowing 2.5 hours to arrive prior to Legoland opening at 10am.  We’d read that if there was a traffic jam it could take between 2 and 3 hours if you were stuck at the cross border bridge.  Remember the Johor-Singapore Causeway is one of the world’s busiest border crossings.  Pre pandemic there were up to 350,000 travelers each day!

In good conditions, the Singapore to Legoland travel time takes about 1 hour, and that’s exactly how long it took us.  There were not long lines at the border crossing and the driver had all our passports organized as we went through.  We arrived at the hotel Legoland Malaysia just before 9 am and were able to check in with no queues at all.   As expected, our room was not ready but we were able to put our luggage in a secure and safe storage area.

And, guess what?  The reception of the Legoland Singapore Hotel is totally, totally awesome with loads of Lego to play with… and Lego features.  I can’t describe the excitement from the children that morning.  We all were so excited, even at the Lego themed toilets!

Legoland Singapore, Legoland Malaysia Theme Park, Review Legoland Malaysia

We were waiting at the gates at 10am – they were just a 5 minute walk from the hotel.  With our tickets purchased online we jumped the small queues and spent no time waiting to get in.  As such, we spent from 10 am to 4 pm on Day 1 of our Legoland Malaysia Theme Park visit in the actual theme park making the best use of our time.

However, the excitement wasn’t ended for us.  We headed back to the Legoland Resort Hotel where we were able to quickly pick up our room keys and organize for the luggage to be delivered.  More excitement as we danced in the Legoland lifts and then arrived in our Ninjago themed room.  More about the details of this totally awesome and splurge worthy room below in our review of the hotel at Legoland Malaysia!  We then chose to hang out in the Legoland Singapore Resort pool to freshen off.

That evening we ate at the Mall of Medini, which is about 7 minutes’ walk from the resort.

The next morning the Malaysia Legoland awesome-ness continued as we enjoyed the Lego themed buffet breakfast before a leisurely morning in the air-con.  Day 2 mostly involved us returning to our favorite rides (time and time again) and more 3D movies.  By mid-afternoon we sadly decided that we could have stayed for another day at the park.  However, it was time to use our double pass and head to the Legoland Malaysia Water Park.  We spent about 2 hours there until it closed at 5pm.  Once again it felt like it was not enough time but everyone was also completely fulfilled and Lego happy.

The next morning we took another private car to travel from Legoland to the Singapore Changi Airport where we were to continue the next section of our holiday.  Again the transfer took about an hour and was seamless!

You can book your return transfer here .

How Much Time Should I Spend at Legoland Singapore?

The most popular ticket is a 2-day park pass which allows you unlimited access to both the Legoland Malaysia Theme Park and the Legoland Malaysia Water Park over two days.  How you decided to split the days between parks in totally up to you.  However, we think that two days spent at Legoland is an absolute bare minimum.  We easily could have spent 3 days at the Legoland Theme Park and another full day at the Legoland Malaysia Water Park.

If this is you first visit to the Legoland Malaysia Theme Park we recommend, at least two days.  However, if you have been before or are simply short on time you could do a day trip to Legoland from Singapore.  However, you might leave feeling like you didn’t get to spend enough time exploring and if traveling from Singapore this would make for a really long day.

Singapore to Legoland, How to get to Legoland from Singapore

Day Trip to Legoland from Singapore

You may see reviews for Legoland Singapore or even be confused that Legoland Malaysia is actually Legoland Singapore. For us, to do Legoland in a day would have been way too much!  However, if you are short of time this is how you would do it.

You would require one to two hours prior to arriving at Legoland, and then another two hours back, and it would be an extremely long day.  For us it was more than enough to spend two days at Legoland Singapore.

Where is the Legoland Malaysia Theme Park & Legoland Malaysia Water Park?

The theme park Legoland Malaysia is also referred to as Legoland Singapore or Legoland Johor.  Legoland Singapore is technically located just 45km from central Singapore.  It is located in the outskirts of Johor Bahru, which is about an hour drive from Singapore central.  However, you must go through a border crossing exiting out of Singapore and into Malaysia on the way.  Traffic and how busy the border crossing is, all factor into how long it actually takes to get from Singapore to Legoland Malaysia.

As I said before, we booked a private transfer which took us a total of about one hour each way.  Booking a private transfer is the easiest and most efficient way to get from Singapore to Legoland Malaysia and back.

What is the Best Time of the Year to Visit Legoland Malaysia Theme Park?

How to escape the heat?  There is no getting away from Legoland Malaysia’s location; it is an extremely hot place, not far from the equator.  Whether you visit during the rainy season or in the dry season, the heat is going to get to you.  Lucky for you- a lot of the Legoland rides are actually indoors.  We managed the heat by balancing one indoor activity with an outdoor activity and trying to do each of the Legoland Worlds at once.

There are also Legoland movies and shows which give you about 45 minutes to 1 hour out of the heat.  If you’re planning your day, know that there are many food outlets around the different worlds of Legoland Malaysia Theme Park but not all of them are air conditioned.  In addition, we would highly recommend visiting LEGO NINJAGO the ride which is air-conditioned!  It was easily one of our favourite places!

What Will Legoland be Like for my X Aged Child?

So if you are reading this Legoland Malaysia blog you are probably thinking, “What will Legoland be like for my X aged child”?   We will do our best to help, within our experience!  Our whole family absolutely loved the theme park Legoland Malaysia.  It really does offer something for the whole family!  Our favourite rides were the water splash ride in Adventure Land, which was as good for our 76 year-old grandmother, as well as the nine-year-old and the mother.

We loved the Legoland Mindstorms workshop, putting together a small robotic model, and then programming it to do certain activities.  It was one of our favourite activities as a whole family, as was doing the fire trucks in LEGO City which involved a great deal of pumping, sweating, and laughing!

The whole family also really loved the Legoland movies, which are in 3D.  They included many realistic effects, including water and wearing 3D glasses.  Also they were air-conditioned so a relief from the heat!

It’s not age – its size – there are height requirements!

Perhaps a more important question is not “How is Legoland for 3 year old”?  But how big is my child?  There are height and age requirements at Legoland, and the park was strict on these safety rules.  In short, if your child is too short, then there is no way you can convince the attendants to let them on.

Most rides have height restrictions between 80-110cm, with some of the more ‘exciting’ ones requiring a minimum height of over 110cm.   A 2 year old is likely to miss out on many rides, whereas a three year old might have grown just enough.  However, it is going to depend on their size, not their age!

Legoland for a Five-Year-Old

Our Lego crazy five-year-old was so overwhelmed and full of excitement, he didn’t know where to look.  His favourite ride was the Dragon’s Apprentice, which was a very achievable roller coaster for a five-year-old.  He also loved the NINJAGO Virtual Reality Ride, and the Pharaoh’s Ride.

Legoland for a Nine-Year -Old

Our less Lego enthusiastic nine-year-old girl absolutely loved Legoland.  It was definitely her favourite part of our three week family holiday.  She loved the Dragon Roller Coaster, and the VR Ride.  Legoland Malaysia Theme Park offers the world’s first VR roller coaster ride.  This means virtual reality you place goggles on your head, and then do the roller coaster.  They will allow younger children who meet a certain height requirement to do the VR ride, but without the goggles.

Pro Tips to Enjoy Legoland VR Rides
We think the ride without the goggles is just scarier than with the goggles.
Second pro tip is actually you focus the goggles to make it more realistic.

Without a doubt, for a mother daughter combo, Dino Island was our favourite – a thrilling journey up a lost, forgotten volcano on a log boat.  The getting wet over and over again really cooled us down.  I’d say by the time she reaches her teen years Legoland might not have the same appeal.

Legoland for Smaller Kids (2-3 Year Olds)

If you are thinking of a Legoland holiday with toddlers, it’s a large park and some distance between the suitable rides.  There is lots of walking for little ones, in the heat as well.  Also, there were quite a few rides that the little ones couldn’t ride due to age and height restrictions.  This could really make them disappointed if their older and slightly bigger siblings can.

We didn’t try the Royal Joust ride, but it sounded like it would be good for a 2-3 year old.  You ride your Lego horse through a medieval forest, and experience other jousting knights and enchanted creatures along the way.  Another fun ride for the youngsters would be to take the Legoland Express Train around the park.

I’ve seen some not overwhelming reviews about visits to Legoland with toddlers.  They are possibly not old enough to do all the rides, and quite impatient too.

What Baby Facilities are there at Legoland Singapore?

In addition to travelling to Legoland with our kids aged 5 and 9, we were with a 7 month old baby.  It’s fair to say that she had her moments at the theme park.  It was a long hot day and, from a baby’s perspective, the screaming rides and sensory overload put her at her threshold.   It probably was not her favourite part of the trip, but she survived the two days and so did we.

There’s a fully air-conditioned parent’s room in the Legoland World.  There are bottle warmers and microwaves to warm up food. There are also high-chairs to use while feeding.  Family restrooms are easy to find throughout the park that have baby changing stations in them.

We also decided to splurge and stay at the Legoland Resort or the hotel Legoland Malaysia.  One of the main reasons being if the baby couldn’t cope, one of the adults could retire to the room with her.  As it turned out she was a real trooper and the breaks in the 3D movies and the parent’s room were enough.  However, we had the option if we needed it.

How to Travel from Singapore to Legoland Malaysia

The main ways of travel form Singapore to Legoland Malaysia are:

  • Private car from a reputable company
  • Taxi or Uber

While it is possible to take a bus from Singapore to Legoland Malaysia, you really need to weigh out the pros and cons.  Yes, it does tend to be cheaper than taking a private care or tax.  However, you must carry all your bags, coordinate pick up and drop off points, and crossing the border takes more time with significantly more people.  Private car hires specialize in efficiently transporting customers from Singapore to Legoland and Legoland to Singapore.  If you wish to travel further in Malaysia you can get inspiration with this Malaysia 3 week itinerary.

We chose taking a private car from a reputable company for many reasons.  For example, you will be comfortable in clean, fully air-conditioned cars with ample legroom.  You also don’t have to worry about your luggage.  In all our overseas travels we also really appreciate having reliable and experienced drivers.  In cities where there the traffic can be congested having a specialist driver can avoid the heavy traffic areas and take alternative routes so you don’t spend a lot of travel time.

Furthermore, having a well maintained and serviced car with good tires is really important to us when travelling with kids.  As is not spending a lot of time waiting in queues at the border.

Legoland Malaysia Water Park Review

HOT Tip!  I’d recommend you to visit this water park in Malaysia late in the day when it’s not so hot.  The sun is very, very hot and will burn you quickly.

The Legoland Malaysia Water Park tickets are included with most standard Legoland entry tickets.  We spent so much time at the “main event” (the Legoland Theme Park) that we didn’t visit the water park until the end of the second day.  It was packed full of people.  Maybe because it was late in the day, or maybe it’s just a smaller area, so it seems busy.

There is a lazy river which is for all ages.  Also a fun and suitable kids play area with four water slides which were for all the kids up to four or five years old.  For those looking for a little bit more of a challenge, there’s tall water slides which are breathtaking and challenging for the older kids.  Yes, there are lots of steps up and you’ll wear yourself out running to the top!  My kids were pretty tired after full two days at Legoland, so they an absolute ball floating and collecting colourful soft Lego bricks along the Build-a-Raft River and we didn’t end up doing the tall slides However, we made up for that at the Splash Park in Thailand .

There’s also the Duplo Splash Safari designed for babies and toddlers.  It is a safe space for tiny tots to splash around in and interact with the adorable water-spraying animals.

Review Legoland Hotel Malaysia

If Legoland is awesome, so is the Legoland Hotel Johor.  From the moment that you arrive, and you discover large scale pirate sized Lego in the lobby, huge pits filled with Lego blocks, and a castle to play in, you will be in heaven.  This is no normal hotel lobby.  There are kids running around everywhere and parents sitting and building Legos.  It was truly one of the most awesome things we have ever seen in our entire lives.  You really feel young at heart!

Room Types at the Hotel Legoland Malaysia

Each room at the Legoland Hotel Johor Bahru has two separate sleeping areas.  One sleeping area with a king size bed for the adults.  The other sleeping area for up to three children including a bunk bed with a trundle bed pull-out, and their own tv and play area.

There are several themed areas in the hotel: Pirate,  Adventure and Kingdom, each available in themed, premium or suite standard.  The newest theme available at Legoland Malaysia is the Ningajo rooms!  In our case my 5 year old was fully into Lego Ninjago, and so we paid a little bit extra and got our very own NINJAGO themed room.  We were lucky enough to request the only “Zane” room in the hotel.  We didn’t know this until we arrived.  Later on we peeked outside our door to see Zane fans taking pictures with our door and with the different NINJAGO characters down the hallway.  So if you’re keen on NINJAGO, and want to do something super special, then make sure you book early and request your favourite character!

Legoland Hotel Johor, Hotel Legoland Malaysia, Legoland Malaysia Hotel Review

Apart from the really fabulous décor of the entire hotel (mirror balls in the lift!) the rooms are sure to give you Lego-fied dreams with a sumptuous main bedroom.  It is cleverly closed off from the kids section where they’ve got bunk beds.  One of the highlights for our kids was the opening of the safe in the rooms, which they had to look for clues and get a Lego present.

Included in our room rate was a super delicious Lego themed breakfast buffet.  One of the best buffets that we had ever had, and a total hit with the kids.

Activities at the Hotel at Legoland Malaysia

We stayed 2 nights at the Legoland Hotel Johor.  While it was far more than our usual budget, it was worth every penny.  My kids still talk about the hotel to this day, and if we had our chance again I would do it in a heartbeat.  We were truly sad when leaving this amazing hotel.

Shows at Legoland Hotel

We spent so much time at Legoland and the Legoland Water Park we didn’t even utilize all the things going on at the hotel Legoland Malaysia.  For example, there were character appearances, building competitions and magic trick performances.  Information on all of these activities are displayed in the main lobby, and will vary depending on when you visit.

There are brick pits all around the hotel, not just in the amazing lobby.  For example, any seating areas have brick pits where the kids can stop and have a play.  After the sensory overload of the theme park, the kids seemed pretty happy to just chill and quietly build.

Legoland Hotel Johor, Hotel Legoland Malaysia, Legoland Malaysia Hotel Review

There are also a couple of shops at the Legoland Resort plus a small Lego Store, and also a gift shop – mostly with Lego items of course but also swimming costumes, sun creams and such, should you need any of them.

If you are going to buy some Legos while at Legoland, it’s not as cheap as you could get in a department store.  You will find that the different shops around the park have different offerings.  For example, there was a broader Ninjago section in the shop in the Ninjago section of the park.

Our Verdict on the hotel at Legoland Malaysia

For us it was worth the money to splurge on the Legoland Malaysia Hotel.  The rooms were quite out of this world, and the ability to be at the theme park at opening time and until closing was another real bonus.  We had initially thought that the grandmother in our party, and the baby would come back to the hotel for a middle of the day sleep, but it never eventuated.

How Much do Legoland Malaysia Tickets Costs?

The Legoland Malaysia ticket price really depends on a few factors.  In general, it is cheaper to book tickets to Legoland Malaysia and an accommodation package together – especially if you are staying on-site at the Legoland Hotel Malaysia.

Of course what you choose will depend on your length of stay, your accommodation choice, and if you choose a multiple park pass or just the Legoland Theme Park.  One day tickets range anywhere from RM189 for adults for only the main theme park to RM313 for a triple park pass.  So that is about 101 AUD or 70 USD for an adult one-day triple park pass.

Also, we recommend booking your tickets in advance.  Legoland Malaysia Theme Park can be extremely crowded.  Booking your tickets in advance not only assures you will be able to visit on a chosen day, but also saves time at the gates not having to wait in line to purchase tickets.  Take a look at the advance purchase options below.

Legoland Malaysia Theme Park on a Budget

You don’t have to stay in the Legoland hotel, though in our opinion it was awesome and a very worthwhile splurge.  My brother and his family stayed at an Airbnb just down the road, less than ten minutes’ walk from Legoland.  It cost them the princely amount of 39 Australian per night and in an absolutely massive Airbnb.  And, as a result, it was actually much cheaper than staying in Singapore per night for them.  So they stayed three nights.

We also found that eating in the Medini Mall, just up the road from Legoland, avoided us the cost of eating in the on-site facilities.  There was a KFC and Burger King, and more.  We ate in a typical Chinese style restaurant, which cost us, about 20 dollars for the whole family dinner.  So, in general, cheaper than what we had been paying in Singapore.

Visiting Legoland Singapore

What is legoland malaysia theme park’s opening hours.

The park is open from Sunday -Monday  and Wed – Friday from 10.00 am – 6.00 pm,  and Saturday times are from 10.00 am to 7.00 pm.

Please note – currently the Legoland Singapore Theme Park is closed on Tuesdays and the Legoland Malaysia Water Park is closed on Wednesdays each week.  Be sure to check their website before you visit.

When Should I Visit Legoland Malaysia?

While planning my trip to Legoland, I had read that weekdays were MUCH quieter than the weekend so we went during the week.  We had virtually no queues at all, which really worked well for us.  It was also outside Australian and Singapore school holiday times.  That being said, here are some things to considering before booking your Legoland Singapore vacation.

Make sure you check when Malaysia and Singapore school holidays are.  If at all possible you will want to avoid visiting during these times.  Should you happen to visit during these times, be prepared for long waits in line for rides and a very crowded park.  If you have the funds, and are visiting during a busy time, look into the VIP passes which (among other things) allow you priority access to rides and attractions.

Another consideration is the weather.  Legoland Johor has a warm and tropical climate, similar to Singapores.  There is little change in the weather from month to month.  Because of the climate, heat and tropical downpours are a consideration when planning a trip.  It most likely will be hot and unexpected showers can occur.

Attractions Nearby to Legoland Malaysia / in Johor Bahru

Mcm studios indoor theme park.

Taking up the entire 3rd and 4th floor of Capital 21 Mall, the MCM Studios is said to be the biggest indoor theme park in all of Asia.

Each of the attractions can be visited (and paid for) individually or you can purchase an all day pass.  Truthfully this indoor theme park is suited more for smaller kiddos.  The attractions and rides are geared towards kids ages 3 – 8.  While they may find some enjoyment or photo ops here and there, tween and teens would probably find most of it too childish.

Desaru Coast Water Park

If you love water parks and are staying around Johor, the Desaru Coast Water Park is worth a visit.  There is something for everyone here.  For little kids there is a dedicated area called “Kid’s Ahoy” with rides and play areas just for kids under 122cm (4 feet).  For adults and older kids there is a huge tidal wave beach (one of the biggest in the world), a water coaster, water slides, a lazy river, and other areas to play.  This is a great water park in Malaysia to visit.

There are also dinning and shopping opportunities.  For more information, visit the Desaru Coast Water Park website .

Istana Bukit Serene

The Istana Bukit Serene is the royal palace of the Sultan of Johor.  Being that it is also the official residence for the Sultan of Johor, you cannot tour the inside of the palace.  However, you are able to walk through the manicured gardens and enjoy the spectacular views out of the Straight of Johor.  Many celebrations take place on the grounds so make sure to see if anything is going on during your visit.

The Verdict – Our Review Legoland Malaysia Theme Park

In conclusion, Legoland Malaysia is very hot, and also probably slightly dated, but in terms of being the perfect first theme park for our children aged 9, and 5 (and the baby at 7 months) it was beyond awesome.

Was the hotel at Legoland Malaysia worth the splurge?  Absolutely, it was for us.  You had us with the mirror balls and disco music in the lifts and the Lego filled lobby, let alone the room.  We loved the rooftop pool with views out over Legoland.  We found that the location was perfect and maximized our time spent in Legoland Singapore. Oh, add also that we went during the week, which was recommended, and we had virtually no queues at all, which really worked well for us.
