Travel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea with new LEGO GWP Tribute to Jules Verne set

jules verne travel austria

Following on the heels of yesterday’s two new LEGO Speed Champion build reveals , everyone’s favorite brick-building company has given us a first glimpse at the next addition to the line of tribute sets for historical figures, the LEGO Tribute to Jules Verne’s Books (40690) . Ready to whisk you away into daring adventurous fun, this build pays homage to three of Verne’s most famous stories. More details below.

We don’t have much in way of details in terms of availability yet, but we have been given some key information that at least lets us know what to expect from a design point-of-view. As I stated earlier, this new build is a tribute to three of Jules Verne’s most imaginative and beloved works of fiction from the 19th century that revolve around adventures outside our normal comfort zones: Around the World in Eighty Days, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, and Five Weeks in a Balloon.

Stacking up to 351 pieces, the finished model will encapsulate these famous stories with the primary means of travel from each; Captain Nemo’s submarine poking from out the water, a train crossing a bridge above it (no doubt carrying Phileas Fogg), and Dr. Samuel Fergusson’s titular balloon hovering even higher – all of it encapsulated within a stylish book-themed frame and coming with an exclusive Jules Verne minifigure to round out the package.

This kit appears to be an upcoming gift with purchase set – it’ll get thrown in orders of a certain amount once it becomes available (likely for LEGO Insiders only). Aside from those details, we don’t have much else to go by like dates for when it will become available or if it’ll ever be offered for a standalone purchase.

Notable ongoing LEGO discounts:

  • LEGO’s A-Frame Cabin sets super-rare discount to $169 low
  • LEGO Botanical Collection decorative sets start from $40
  • LEGO Disney build sets inspire tales from $16
  • LEGO Ideas Fender Stratocaster hits second-lowest price

About the company.

Voyages Jules Verne was founded in 1978 on the basis of one simple idea - to operate a train from London to Peking (Beijing) and thence to Hong Kong. In doing so the market to China was opened up at a time, remarkably, when the 'bamboo curtain' was still officially in place.

Further innovative train journeys were to follow and many travel firsts were also achieved including inaugural flights to previously inaccessible areas and the opening of remote border crossing points.

In 1982 Serenissima Travel was acquired and added a complementary list of cultural itineraries to the overall portfolio as well as introducing clients to themed travel such as walking, music & opera and cruising.

World events from 1989 to 1991, most notably the Tian an Men incident in China and the Gulf War, further shaped the future of the Company as even more diversification was necessary. Far from bemoaning the travel recession at the time, this resulted in an expansion of the company's portfolio while still retaining the core group travel ethos.

Voyages Jules Verne was acquired by Kuoni Travel in 1998 but still retains its independent and innovative approach to a comprehensive list of destinations and themes.

Today the range of product encompasses longhaul and shorthaul, weekends and expeditions, the conventional and the unexpected, a variety of themes and special interests - all underpinned by quality and value for money.

The tradition of innovation and creativity is still alive today and evidenced, amongst others, by stays at a convent in Rome, heritage properties in India, the use of royal steamers on the Nile, and a series of special events exclusively arranged for VJV clients.

Hidden Spain tour

Hiodden Spain: guide had no communication or organisational skills. His English was poor. He lived in southern Spain, we were in the Basque country. He knew nothing about the area and talked about southern Spain all the time. We had all been to the south many times. He seemed completely unaware of this. He read notes off the net, which we could have done.

The Golden Road to Samarqand

I have just come back from the Golden Road to Samarqand trip - 3-14 May 2024 - and want to give a review because it was a perfect experience. What made my experience perfect? Comfortable flight, beautiful hotels in perfect locations, the planning that our guide Shukhrat put into making sure the whole group (19 in total) felt looked after safely and with great good humour. The weather was mixed so Shukhrat made some changes to our itinerary to make sure we would get the best out of each of the places we visited. We experienced ancient cities, mosques, madrassas, minarets and mausoleums, brought to life by information and stories about all the places we visited. This brought everything into vivid life as we walked the streets, explored bazaars and workshops and met local people who made us feel so welcome. The local guides in Khiva and Bukhara and the coach drivers could not have done more for us. We experienced the Kyzylkum desert, stopping to view the Amu Darya (Oxus) and lunch in a yurt, the snow capped Zarafshan mountains, local cuisine, markets and met local craftsmen and women. The whole trip was a revelation and I thank Shukhrat from the bottom of my heart for all that he did.

Reply from Jules Verne

Thank you for taking the time to share your wonderful review following your tour with us on the Golden Road to Samarkand. We're thrilled to hear that you had an exceptional experience as Uzbekistan is one of our leading destination for 2024. Your kind words will be passed on to our local agents in Uzbekistan and also our guide, Shukhurat, who will appreciate your feedback. We're glad you returned home with wonderful memories and we hope to see you on another tour with us in the future.

Excellent pre travel service from Tara

We have used VJV before had had a wonderful time so have booked the Nile cruise including Aswan. We've not travelled yet, but I just wanted to praise the exceptional service we have received from Tara who went above and beyond in sorting out some specific requests when her colleagues had told me it was impossible previously. She is a credit to VJV.

Recently went to Mexico and Guatemala…

Recently went to Mexico and Guatemala with this company. Awful holiday, expensive but done cheaply. Coming through immigration, we had to walk to our bus and the car barrier came down onto my husbands head, splitting the skin and causing him to collapse. We have been offered £300 as a goodwill gesture, because it was out with their control. I asked them if he had died which he could have done (he is 77) would they have said the same thing. Absolutely disgraceful. Please don't book with this company, they do not have your safety as a priority. Their standards have dropped considerably over the last year. I first went with them 35 years ago but will never go with them again. No customer care. Our complaint was not resolved amicably. Unfortunately we are due to go with you to Transylvania, but will never travel with you again.

Date of experience : 08 March 2024

We were very sorry to read about your disappointing experience in Mexico and we appreciate how serious this incident was. Nikki, our Customer Experience Manager, has been in contact with you and the matter has been resolved amicably. We're also very glad that your husband has recovered well. We're pleased you have decided to travel with us again and we hope that we can restore your faith with Jules Verne.

Fantastic 600 Mile Nile from Aswan to Cairo…

A SUPER well organised Cruise down the 600 Mile Nile on a comfortable river cruiser MS Darakum Delightfulyl professional and helpful crew. Fantastic food with loads of choice. A knowledgeable guide enhanced the visits at all sites Avoiding the heat and crowds where possible Extra Vjv experiences were a bonus and fun. Cruise includes time to relax and enjoy the interesting river banks passing by.. Finishing in Cairo for the amazing Pyramids, Sphinx and City. Good value for money as everything included, except the Balloon Ride over Valley of Kings.Definitly worth the extra !

Very poor at responding.

"I´ll get back to you tomorrow" obviously has a different meaning in the Jules Verne lexicon. That´s what we´ve been told three times now, but are still waiting. 20 years ago Jules Verne were the Gold Standard, by which other tour agents were judged, now they are some way below the middle of the pack. That´s a real shame. One commuinication you will receive though is the persistent feedback requests - "Tell us how did we do". Well, I can´t answer that, because you still didn´t do anything!

Appalling. Save your money and use another company

The holiday booked was cancelled 3 weeks before departure. The replacement offered was appalling. It was a so called River Cruise from Stasbourg....No cruise that i know if is so bad. The boat rattles, creaks and bangs the 'cabins' are more akin to a prison cell. The Heath and Safety is dreadful with evacuation over 3 adjoining boats on narrow badly placed planks positively dangerous. During the night, it would be impossible to cross and anyone who is elderly or has mobility problems would simply be left behind. The quality is dire. Don't bother. For a much lower cost I have booked P&O Stateroom for 2 people next December. VJV did exactly the same to a consultant friend who has also provided the most dreadful reviews. They are not what they were and really couldn't care less.

The Golden Road to Samarkand

The Golden Road to Samarkand - Ukbekistan. What a fantastic holiday. The country is culturally rich, very friendly and so much to see and do. Made all the better due to the exacting organisation and admin of VJV customer services team and the exceptional in country guide. He was exceptional. All over every detail, nothing was too much trouble and we were well informed at all times. He earned his tip and more. I can highly recommend this company and this tour. You may find cheaper versions, but having seen other companies whilst I was there, at times they appeared chaotic and disorganised. I having nothing but praise and good words for the the local guide and VJV.

Sorrento with VJV

I recently travelled to Sorrento with VJV and thoroughly enjoyed the trip. I’ve been on many previous trips (8) with this company and have always been happy with the service in the UK and when on holiday. The negative comments on here are puzzling. VJV trips typically have small numbers of people on them and a light touch when it comes to being guided. I really like this - I don’t want to be kept under close ‘supervision’, but maybe some people do!

NO, DON'T CALL ME BACK

Haven't managed to browse the site at all, thanks to unmoveable."Can we call you back?" pleas that obscured the screen seconds after i clicked on a holiday. Clearly this company is too in love with technological hard-sell techniques to appreciate how off-putting they are.

Company Not as Good as it Used to be

Sadly since covid the company has lost site of any customer care. There is no loyalty for all the years of travelling with them, and the company feels as though its run by a group of youngsters with little knowledge of the holiday destinations they are selling.

Lacking in knowledge of Schengen

Lacking in knowledge of Schengen. VJV rep was unable to advise on Schengen passport rules when flying from the UK to an EU country and then on to another EU country without returning home first. This was surprising given they are a company that have many EU multi-country tours.

The very best Safari experience in Tanzania.

We booked a Safari to Tanzania through VJV - and everything worked just perfectly! Their partner in Africa is Tent with a View - a company who reflect perfectly the service from VJV. Everything worked just as planned - the accommodation was quirky and fun -the food extraordinary (I wasn't expecting that in the middle of the Serengeti) - but most of all the people were warm, friendly and loved to share their culture and way of life. Simply the best experience - awesome! No complaints at all - the brochure tells you what to expect but they delivered so much more. Thank you!

Why advertise regional flights?

I was interested in a holiday advertised as having regional flights. Asked for call back which I received. However the sales advisor seemed intent on persuading me to book a holiday with a flight from London and evaded my questions as to why regional flights were advertised. She was so patronising, obtuse and bossy I ended the phone call by saying I wouldn’t want to travel with JV anyway after this experience

Avoid Egyptair, if you can’t then don’t book the holiday

We enjoyed our holiday, organised by Jules Verne, it was the return home that was the issue. Another tour group arranged the early flights, Luxor - Cairo, to pick up the Heathrow flight that afternoon, Jules Berne arranged the early afternoon flight. Which was late. So we missed the connection and had to spend the night in a hotel chosen by Egyptair. The Le Passage at Cairo airport. Which was horrible. I wondered if Jules Verne would hide behind the ‘nothing to do with me, contact Egyptair’ nonsense and, guess what… ? They did. No discussion about how this sort of situation might be avoided in the future or, indeed, our thoughts on how the Egypt holiday might be improved. Nope… they have our money and that’s that. Well they won’t have anymore of it. Ever.

Excellent tours

We used Jules Verne to book a tour to Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. It was very well organised and a reasonable price for what we got. Phone information was good and the brochures are excellent. We have just booked a tour to Burma and, again, everything so far has been very efficient.

Dealing with the unexpected

Just completed my second trip with vjv and both have been excellent. I suspect that the overall low rating is because the majority of highly satisfied customers remain silent. Vjv book flights for their customers but it is not their responsibility to help with airport and in-flight issues. If things go wrong, it is the airline's responsibility to sort out problems. On arrival and throughout the itinerary it is the local guides and drivers who represent vjv. In my experience they have been very good. This trip included a client who was ill and became disabled during the trip. The guide earned our respect as he made every effort to ensure the traveller was looked after, paying for a wheelchair and temporary carer out of his own pocket. He assured me that he was confident that vjv would reimburse his expenses. He said the company never queried such unexpected costs. He was confident of their support. Vjv also arranged for wheelchair assistance when we arrived at LHR. That is an indication of good service. I shall be booking another trip with them.

No more holidays with VJV

Having travelled twice before with VJV, this time was one not to be repeated. I managed to get a bad cold after a few days and certain people in the group told me I couldn't eat with them and I should go back to my room. The tour manager did nothing to sort this out so I was ostracised for having a cold which I clearly caught whilst on holiday. The tour rep was very pleasant but age inappropriate (20) for the group who were from 64 to late 80s. Although food was served to me in the lounge bar by the time it came it was stone cold. I do not expect to go on holiday and be treated as if I have the plague when I and many other people on the Renoir riverboat were also coughing and sneezing. My previous trip with VJV started badly as they booked flights from Heathrow that were too late to catch the riverboat in Lyon. The flight was delayed but even if it had been on time the boat had already sailed. We ended up wheeling our cases a long way to a hotel to eat, then getting in a small coach for a mad dash to catch up with the boat with a driver who drove extremely dangerously. £100 was given by way of compensation to spend on another holiday with them which I used for the holiday above. Even then they seemed reluctant to allow me to use the £100 having to check with managers even though it was on their records.

Official: Barcelona star Jules Kounde starts for France vs Austria | UEFA Euro 2024

As France get set to kick off their UEFA Euro 2024 journey in Dusseldorf soon, Didier Deschamps has unveiled the starting lineup that will face Austria in a little while.

Jules Kounde, the only representative of FC Barcelona in the France squad, starts for the 2018 FIFA World Cup winners.

Much like most of his stint at Barça, Kounde slots in at right-back for Les Bleus , which does not come as a major surprise considering that Deschamps has more often than not used him in that role.

It will be interesting to see how the Frenchman fares in the position and whether that influences Barcelona manager Hansi Flick’s decision to use Kounde as a centre-back from next season.

Two former Barcelona stars in the form of Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele also start for France against Austria, along with a former academy trainee in Marcus Thuram.

Real Madrid ’s new signing Kylian Mbappe leads the team as the captain.

10 Best Movies Based On Jules Verne Books, Ranked

  • Jules Verne's work has inspired numerous movie adaptations and is the foundation for some of the earliest science fiction films.
  • Some Jules Verne adaptations are entertaining and enjoyable, while others are outdated and not required viewing.
  • The film "Journey to the Center of the Earth" (2008) successfully updates Verne's classic story with modern special effects and remains fun to watch.

Jules Verne is undoubtedly one of the most prominent authors in science fiction , and its no wonder that his works have inspired countless movie adaptations. One of the most translated writers in human history, the French author has written legendary tales like 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and Around the World in 80 Days . Verne's daring imagination put him far ahead of his time, and it's no surprise that movie studios have sought to replicate his sense of wonder with multiple live-action adaptations of Jules Verne stories .

Jules Verne's work has become the foundation for some of the earliest films in the science fiction genre , some of which even hold up today remarkably well as enjoyable, adventurous romps through the imagination. The mid-to-late 2000s saw a resurgence of Jules Verne films as well, to varying degrees of success, with studios hoping to recapture the joy and nostalgia of the earliest films to adapt Verne's books for a new generation. With so many familiar titles, it's a difficult task to distinguish the very best depictions of Jules Verne's novels over the years.

Journey To The Center Of The Earth

An easily-overlooked made-for-TV movie, the two-part Journey to the Center of the Earth special was a solid attempt at getting to the center of what made Verne's original story so memorable. The film is decidedly slow-moving and low-budgeted, with some creature effects occasionally bordering the precipice of acceptable for a shoestring budget, but the C-List actors can often bring in decent performances amid the campy set-dressing. Despite it's many flaws, the two-part film is an entertaining, knowingly campy jog through Verne's beloved tale of subterranean exploration.

Master Of The World

Master of the World is the sole film to adapt Jules Verne's novel of the same name, and when compared to his other, more well-known stories, it's easy to see why. The narrative of a rich maniac dedicated to the idea of threatening the world's governments into laying down their arms isn't quite as whimsical as Verne's other premises. As for the film, despite rich talent from the likes of a young Charles Bronson and the legendary Vincent Price , the special effects are especially outdated, even for the time period . Master of the World is fun, but not required viewing.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

Journey 2: the mysterious island.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is the follow-up to 2008's Journey to the Center of the Earth. The film takes place four years after the original, showing Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson teaming up with Hank, his stepfather, to find his lost grandfather. Due to scheduling issues, Brendan Fraser wasn't able to return as Trevor Anderson but was replaced by Dwayne Johnson as the film's lead.

Release Date 2012-02-12

Director Brad Peyton

Cast Josh Hutcherson, Michael Caine, Vanessa Hudgens, Dwayne Johnson

This semi-adaptation picks up where 2008's Journey to the Center of the Earth left off, replacing Brendan Fraser with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. As the passable action adventure delves into the incredible isle, the tone rides a strange line, at once too scary for younger viewers and too subdued for older ones. Amid mediocre CGI and all-too subdued performances, the best thing that can be said about Journey 2: The Mysterious Island was how it pioneered the art of throwing Johnson into a jungle, later done better in films like Jungle Cruise and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle .

Around The World In 80 Days

Though the idea of circumnavigating the globe in the span of 80 days is now a triviality, in Verne's time, such a time was the stuff of science fiction. The 1956 take on the story is an incredibly grand adventure comedy with a runtime that feels nearly as long as the titular journey itself. The international cast is crammed with stars of Hollywood's Golden Age , who had enough charisma between them to earn the film an early Academy Award for Best Picture. Today, the spectacle and aged humor can be best appreciated as a museum of 50s stardom.

Starring a young Josh Hutcherson and Brendan Fraser, still hot off the success of The Mummy trilogy , 2008's Journey To The Center Of The Earth had all the makings of an action-adventure hit. Being the first to truly update one of Verne's classic stories with modern special effects, the film still looks great 15 years later, even if it is marred by several obvious moments clearly meant to be enjoyed in the context of a 3-D theater. Adapting the classic adventure about as well as it could have, Journey To The Center Of The Earth isn't revolutionary, but undeniably fun.

While most adaptations of Verne's work make at least some departures from the source material, 2004's Around The World In 80 Days completely re-imagines the story as a raucous action-comedy. Though critically-panned at the time, the film is endlessly re-watchable today , with eye-popping action choreography courtesy of Jackie Chan's Passepartout and deadpan comedic timing from Steve Coogan's Phineas Fogg. If the anachronisms and deviations from Verne's novel can be forgiven, Around The World In 80 Days is a creative globe-trotting adventure that doesn't get the respect it deserves.

There's simply no replicating the cheesy fun of the original Journey To The Center Of The Earth , an earnest science fiction adventure movie that wears its heart on its sleeve. The special effects are certainly dated, but it's hard not to wring a certain level of charm out of the delicately hand-painted backgrounds and practical lizardman costumes. Beyond the addition of the deliciously dastardly villain, Count Saknussemm, the film is also one of the most faithful to Verne's work, a commendable effort in and of itself.

The Mysterious Island

The Mysterious Island is one of Jules Verne's lesser-known stories, but the 1961 film of the same name takes every advantage of the novel's conceits. Following a group of Union soldiers in the Civil War who escape prison in a hot air balloon only to wash up on a bizarre uncharted island, the film's sense of tension only ever dials up, as the heroes contend with grimy human pirates and giant fauna rendered by the talent of stop-motion legend Ray Harryhausen . Not the deepest narrative, this thrilling tale of danger holds up decades later remarkably well as a harrowing odyssey.

20,000 Leagues Under The Sea

One of Disney's earliest forays into live-action storytelling, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea presented the aquatic crew of the Nautilus with untold dangers then-undreamed of by 50s audiences. Beyond the great creature and sci-fi technology designs that still hold up today, the film offers substantially more heart than most other Verne adaptations, taking the time to acclimate the viewer with its intrepid adventurers. It's no wonder that 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was influential enough to earn a spot as a Disneyland mainstay even seven decades after its original release.

A Trip To The Moon

It's only fitting that the world's first science fiction movie sprung from the mind of one of the genre's most influential authors. Presenting early audiences with a dizzying idea of space travel long before the first astronaut was born, A Trip To The Moon 's hypnotic, almost feverish visuals and brisk 14-minute run time assaults the imagination with a yet-unmatched spectacle of dreamlike reality. From the Moon's incredulous face to the dancing insectoid aliens that vanish in a literal puff of smoke, A Trip To The Moon is by far the most influential science fiction film courtesy of Jules Verne.

A. The Travel Itinerary is provided soon after you book your Scheduled, Group, Private or Custom Expedition. Or you can request it. It will provide more detail about the Expedition. It will also instruct you in any Transport, Lodging, or other details that you will need to book/pay for. Particularly for non-Scheduled or “To the Ends of the Earth” type speciallty expedition, there will likely be significant charter costs that need to be arranged for your payment.

Q. Do I need to purchase Expedition insurance?

A. For short trips in the United States, ravel insurance, is optional but suggested. For trips outside the country, it is strongly suggested. Trips to Iceland, Greenland or other places remote from civilization, we REQUIRE sufficient trip insurance, whether ticketed or Group/Custom/Private travel. This can offer financial protection for trip cancellation, emergency evacuation, medical coverage, liability, legal and other critical coverages. You agree and hold us harmless in that we cannot cover or assist with any of these expenses or responsibilities for you and interruption, as well as assistance should you encounter travel delays, baggage loss, or require medical treatment while traveling.

Q. Do you accept credit cards? Bitcoins? ETC?

A. Available payment methods will be presented when you purchase Tickets or will be discussed when you arrange a Private Group Expedition.

Please also see Multi-Generation and Family Expeditions. For Private Group Expeditions, particulars can be discussed and customized when setting up your itinerary.

Q. How do I get to/from my Expedition?

A. You are required to provide your own transportation to/from your Expedition. There are links at the bottom with suggestions for transportation, lodging, etc. For group/private Expeditions, we may be able to arrange transport for you from a nearby hotel or bus stop.

Q. How far in advance should I book?

A. The earlier the better. We book on a first come – first served basis. If you have dates in mind, you should arrange and provided the required deposit for your Expedition to ensure the dates you want to travel. Most clients book months to a year in advance.

Q. How many Guests will be on the Expedition? How many Guides?

A. For Private Group Expeditions, group size depends on the length, nature and complexity of a Expedition. There may be a maximum size limit. We assign sufficient Guides/Local Experts – which is reflected in your billing. A. For Scheduled Expeditions, we assign enough Guides to cover registered Guests. Ticket sales may close once we reach a maximum.

Q. Is going on an Expedition safe?

A. Travel always involves some risk. We are trained in the kind of risks we expect to encounter. We also will provide some instruction at the start of most Expeditions. All participants MUST be fully insured medically. Travel outside the USA will require you/members of your group to purchase appropriate travel insurance. Your Party understands/agrees that in booking, we cannot offer any coverage related to medical, evacuation, harm or loss in such extreme areas for any reason. You hold us harmless for all possible forms of claims.

Q. Is transportation, lodging or food included in the price?

A. We are Expert Tour Guides. A small, local business; not a giant faceless Cruise Ship/factory travel company. Many of our services involve/support indigenous peoples. We receive a fixed daily rate for our services during the expedition, which is the price listed for each expedition on this site (including any discounts).

Due to the unique/remote/varying nature of our expeditions, we do not currently offer “packages”. (We are the last “Grand Adventure” on Earth, we have no competition in our space.) This allows us to offer the best, most flexible pricing to you

Other Costs: You will receive from us a “Tour itinerary” (aka “unbundled/a la carte” travel document) with specific instructions. You will separately arrange transportation/lodging elements related to your expedition. This should be done fairly soon, to assure your reservations. You may wish the services of an online travel agent to assist. (During the expedition, you will also be responsible for cost of your meals/food).

>> Niche, Exotic, Polar or similar “extreme” tour companies are VERY expensive. You could spend $2-$3,000 daily. Yet they STILL are giant companies offering mass tourism (“cattle cars”) taking LOTS of people to “hard to reach” places. We call them “cliche” travel. No mystery. No challenge. Faceless, giant companies running factory tours. Elbow past a dozen people to point your camera at an iceberg without having to challenge yourself. Sort of like doing a Disney Vacation in Antarctica. Expensive but forgettable crowded cruise ships pretending to be a unique Adventure. <<

Q. Tell me about your Guides?

A. Expeditions are led by someone experienced with the theme of an Expedition, and familiar with the stops. At times, this might be a guest speaker or local expert.

Q. What about animals?

A. Pets & ESAs are prohibited; ESA only having rights in your residence. Service Animals that are fake, disturb others or uncontrolled are prohibited. In many locations, animals are NOT permitted. BOARD your animals. There are no refunds for ignoring this.

Q. What about people with disabilities/health issues?

A. There may be places not appropriate for those who cannot walk normally without assistance. There is often walking, hiking or places inappropriate for wheelchairs or service animals. For Private Group Expeditions , If you inform us in advance of people with disabilities, we can try and customize an Expedition with this in mind. Some Expeditions have strenuous, rocky or uphill walks. Those with vision/health issues, very young children or advanced age may struggle. No one with a communicable disease or inebriated should drive others in their own cars. Please purchase Travel Insurance  against such possibilities.

Q. What do I need to bring on my Expedition?

A. See Gear/Suggestions what to bring

Q. What does the expedition cost generally include?

This depends on the type of expedition. FOR:

  • Budget Expeditions , are scheduled day Expeditions, currently in eastern PA/NJ. They are booked through Journey/Expedition. The details will be there.
  • Expeditions on this site ( JulesVerne.Tours ), A) Because  Extreme/Polar/ Niche travel is usually VERY expensive (perhaps $2000+ daily pp), our Scientific Expeditions are “unbundled”. This allows more reasonable and flexible pricing. B)  We are your expert expedition guides during the tour. We receive a fixed daily rate for our services , which is the price listed for each expedition on this site (including any discounts). C) You will receive a Tour Itinerary with detailed instructions.   Use it to arrange/book/pay for the transportation & lodging elements of your expedition.   You will also pay your meals and admissions  as we go . D) Any discounts by us do NOT apply to your tour itinerary.
  • Private/Group Expeditions are similar to the bullet above (“ Expeditions on this site “). Our Guide Daily Rate and the items on the Tour Itinerary are arranged by those you put in charge of your group . Discounts may apply if enough people go. The ACTUAL cost of your itinerary may depend on selections such as meals, groceries, distance traveled, number of days, number of clients, service level chosen, type of accommodations, transportation, outside experts and local guides, chartered vehicles+drivers, entrance fees, supplies and equipment, rentals, etc. Stops for restaurants, hotels/camps, stores, shopping, entrance fees, etc. often require you to pay your own way, including taxes/tips. You should bring credit/debit cards to cover such potential expenses.

Q. What does the Expedition include/cost?

Jules Verne Expedition is an ecotour supplier. For a Scheduled Expedition (where you buy a Ticket) we suggest a few sites at the bottom of this page. other pre/post-Expedition activities on our website/literature, we are not a travel agency. You should read your order confirmation and this website and any communications you receive for an understanding. We have no responsibility or involvement and cannot provide personal advice on any transportation, meals, accommodations or other activities before or after your Expedition. Generally the Expedition includes your Guides, the stops and our guidance. We dont feed or board you, we dont provide medical coverage, etc. We include and exclude pretty much like every other half or full day Expedition tour providers in America (excepting transportation). Make sure you bring adequate means to pay for services and amenities not elected in your Expedition booking/itinerary. For Private Groups, the cost of your Expedition depends on the selections and amenities, length, nature, and the particular Expedition made.

Q. What is the pace of an Expedition?

A. For Scheduled/Day Expeditions, assume it may involve walking to/from your car to a museum and inside, short hikes to a site such as a waterfall, and possibly a half-mile of trail. Some stops/places are not wheelchairs or service animal friendly. The group generally cannot slow down for those with difficulties in walking. For Private Group Journeys, the pace and activity level of each Journey/Expedition depends on the itinerary and the specific Journey you have chosen. When booking, we can discuss the itinerary, to get it correct for the members of your group. Let us know special needs or issues. We will help advise you on what is best. You are welcome to contact us – make sure you put your questions into the form!

Q. What should we wear and bring?

A. For advice about preparation & what to bring, see  What to Bring .

What are the physical requirements for the Expedition?

Our expeditions can range from low to high physical exertion levels. Details of the physical demands for each trip may be in your Travvel Itinerary. Participants should be able to handle the physical activities described, such as hiking for several hours or navigating uneven terrain. We recommend that you prepare accordingly and consult with your physician if you have any concerns about your ability to participate.

What is your cancellation and refund policy?

That is covered in the website Terms and Conditions. These are also displayed during booking of a scheduled Expedition. Note that these policies ONLY apply to the Daily Guide fee when booking. Any transportation, lodging or other things you separately arranged is subject to THEIR policies.

What kind of weather should we expect during the Expedition?

The weather can vary significantly depending on the destination and the time of year. Our Expeditions seek to go during the best time of year. As we get closer, you might get an idea of projected weather from www.Accuweather.com

What languages do your Guides speak?

Our guides are proficient in English.

What safety measures do you have in place, such as for wildlife encounters?

Safety is our top priority, especially when it comes to wildlife encounters. Do NOT approach ANY wildlife, including to get “pictures”. Consider using a DEET insect repellant daily for ticks, mosquitoes and flies. Follow the instructions of the Guide, if any are given. Note what we say about this in our Terms and Conditions, on the website.

Also, we advise long sleeve shirts and long pants and a wide brimmed hat when we are outside, for sun protection. Also you should use a high PF Sun screen, to protect head, hands and other exposed areas. Sunburn and skin cancer are real risks…

Tour Guides generally do not offer sunscreen, protective clothing, fluids or insect repellant. Please bring your own.
