Contributing

We're huge fans of the open source community, and we're happy to accept pull requests. That said, we would prefer that you join the discord server and have a chat with us about it first. This allows us to cooperate with you and ensure that your PR makes sense, and isn't stepping on anyone else's toes.

Please also take a look at the Code of Conduct before posting an issue, PR or comment.

We provide a standalone JAR download, and an installer for Windows. Please note that if you pick the standalone JAR, you will need to have Java 11 or later installed.

This toolkit only supports 64-bit systems!

Installer (Windows only)

This installer contains a copy of the Java runtime, so you don't need to install it yourself.

  • Head to the releases page and download the installer for the latest version.
  • Run the installer. If Microsoft SmartScreen pops up, click on the More Info link, and then the Run anyway button at the bottom.
  • Once installed, you will find a JourneyMap Tools shortcut on your desktop, and in your start menu. Use that to start the toolkit.

Standalone JAR (all platforms)

  • Head to the releases page and download the JAR for the latest version.
  • Save the JAR in its own folder, and create a shortcut to it on your desktop (or somewhere else within easy reach).
  • Double-click the JAR or shortcut to start the toolkit.

Note: On Linux, you may need to create a launcher that makes use of the java command directly. This will depend on how you have configured your desktop.

Upon launch, you will be presented with a window that looks like this:

Selecting your instance

The first thing to do is to tell the tool where you've placed your Minecraft instance. If you're using a modpack then this is likely to be managed by your launcher, and you should be able to locate the instance directory from there.

The default vanilla Minecraft installation directory will be selected for you, but if this is incorrect then you can click on Browse to navigate to the right directory. You can also type or copy-and-paste the path - in that case, please hit Enter on your keyboard to confirm the location.

If the tool was unable to detect a valid JourneyMap data directory within the selected Minecraft directory, the location input will be coloured red. Ensure that you select a Minecraft installation that has been used with JourneyMap at least once.

Once you've selected the correct Minecraft installation directory, you'll be able to choose which world you want to work with, and configure the map.

  • Single-Player : Worlds that you've played in single-player mode.
  • Multi-Player (Online) : Servers that you've played on while logged into Minecraft.
  • Multi-Player (Offline) : Servers that you've played on while in offline mode.
  • If you're choosing a server, JourneyMap may have created multiple directories for it. This can happen due to multiple servers existing with the same name, or due to file permissions errors. Feel free to give each one a try, or inspect the folders yourself if you're not sure.
  • If you don't see any dimensions in the list, then you simply don't have any maps for those dimensions. Start up the game, explore a bit, and try again!
  • These correspond with the standard JourneyMap map types - day, night, topographic and underground.
  • If you don't see a map type in this list, then you simply haven't mapped any chunks using that map type.
  • JourneyMap maps underground areas in layers. You may wish to experiment with cave mode in the full-screen map to figure out which layer you wish to work with.
  • This option will only show layers that you've mapped at least one chunk for.
  • Grid : Whether you wish to draw a grid representing individual chunks over the map.

Once you're happy with your settings, click on the Export button and pick somewhere to save your map. Once you've done this, all you need to do is sit back and wait for the map to be exported!

If you're trying to open the toolkit and nothing is happening, then you're probably running it with the wrong version of Java.

  • Ensure that you have Java 11 or later installed, or that you're using the Windows installer.
  • Ensure that your system's default version of Java is Java 11.
  • Try running the standalone JAR from a terminal - java -jar JMTools.jar

If you think you've found a problem, feel free to contact us on Discord or head to the issues page and open an issue.

Privacy Policy

JourneyMap uses ModInfo to send a single anonymous packet to Google Analytics when the mod is loaded for the very first time.  This provides the authors with very basic stats about what versions of JourneyMap and Minecraft to support, along with your display size and preferred language. No personally-identifying data is used or tracked.   See ModInfo for information on how to opt-out.

The JourneyMap mod is a great live mapper that’s super simple to use. It has a nice, clean interface and is very detailed both in the minimap and full map. Just hit ‘J’ to bring up the full map and options menu. You’ll see the map begin to populate and you can even have it fill in areas that you’ve already been to.

journey map tools mod

The minimap can be toggled to whatever corner you prefer and can even be toggled off with a hotkey. It also lists your current coordinates and can even be adjusted in size. This could be a much more useful function than simply carrying maps and constantly looking down as they update. The minimap can also display enemy mobs and animals nearby. You can toggle what is displayed on the minimap in the options menu as well. Sometimes you don’t need to see every entity so having the option to clean up the map is a useful feature.

journey map tools mod

In the options menu you’ll see a variety of entities to have show up or not. You can even have the compass and clock visible and all you need to do is check or uncheck anything you want visible.

journey map tools mod

And there’s even more customization with the ability to change what types of icons show up for entities or players as well as size, shape and position of the minimap itself!

journey map tools mod

Another neat feature is the ability to automatically generate the map of the world you’re in. After hitting ‘j’ to open the map, just click the auto-map tab at the bottom and it will fill in those empty spaces. You can choose to generate the entire map or only the areas that you’ve already been to and are simply missing in Journeymap. Otherwise the map will generate those empty chunks as you visit them. But auto-map allows you to see mostly everything around you instead of trekking through the entire world. It’s very convenient if you’ve just started the mod with an already established world and don’t want to travel just see where everything lies. And it’s very useful to see where other biomes are or where key landmarks might be.

journey map tools mod

One of the best and most useful features is the waypoint generator. The default key is ‘B’ and you can hit that anywhere in your world to create a waypoint at that position. It’ll open up a menu to edit the name and color as well as the coordinates and any other key information. Then hit save and it will become an option to view in the full map menu.

journey map tools mod

Open the full map and the button at the bottom left shows all the waypoints you’ve created. You can use these to teleport to any of them or edit them if you need to as well. You can also use this menu to create new waypoints if you know the coordinates for them. And these can be accessed for any waypoints created in the Overworld, Nether, or End with the ability to teleport between dimensions without needing a portal!

journey map tools mod

Another really neat feature to Journeymap is the ability to save and view your map on your iOS or Android device or right on your computer. In the J menu, there’s a button at the bottom to save the map as a PNG file or you can hit the button “Use Browser” to automatically open the map in your browser. It’ll even update your location in real time as you move so you can keep the map open on a separate screen with much more detail than the minimap!

great mod – only issue is the size of the map, its TINY. I’ve set it to “large” but I can barely see it. going to try out the internet view

@cameron: There’s a full Waypoint Manager since 4.0 @Donna: Use +/- to zoom in and out. You’re probably zoomed all the way out

This is a very nice and in-depth mapping mod… I wonder though… Does it show where players are? Also, won’t a Schrodinger cat problem arise for the chunks if you load them in via map versus via explorations, would the same result or would different results arise from the same chunk. Holy cow!… This mod is the first mod i know that has caused chunks to be theorized as superimposed… Good job techbrew, keep up the mind boggling work.

it shows where players are if friends are playing with you, but it does not when your using singleplayer

Is there a way to gate this mod behind an item? it would be a huge help for immersion’s sake. The item I had in mind was the cybernetic eye from the Cyberware mod.

man I only wished if this could work on bedrock edition

JourneyMap Mod

JourneyMap Mod Wiki  aims to map the world in Minecraft  in real-time when you make your way through it.

JourneyMap

JourneyMap Mod Wiki

The map can be viewed in a web browser or in the game as a Minimap. Besides, you can view it on the full screen. To do so, you have to install a Map and Information  mod called JourneyMap. It is a client and server mod for Forge.

By using the mod, you can explore the world in the game as it is mapped in real-time. You may have known that the in-game world is quite large. Hence, it is easy for you to not know which way to go.

You are recommended to try the above mod as it allows you to view the world in the game as a minimap or even in a web browser.

The mod gives support to single and multiplayer servers. Here are two modes for multiplayer:

  • FairPlay Edition: It deactivates Radar and Cave mapping when you are in Multiplayer mode.
  • Unlimited Edition: It enables features for Single and Multiplayer modes.

If you are on the latest version, you can explore some features such as:

  • Waypoint sharing
  • Topographic maps
  • Minimum Distance

These features are for waypoint beacons.

Other features:

  • If you are in the minimized mode, the mod is like a radar that displays terrain and the player’s location.
  • When you are in the maximized mode, the mod is shown at full screen with various function buttons.
  • The setting menu is made in a detailed way and it is highly customizable.
  • Web Map is also a great feature of the mod. It allows players to view the world map through the use of web browsers.

JourneyMap  Mod  lets you explore the in-game world through a functional map.

Requirement:

  • Minecraft Forge
