The history of Laknavaram Lake goes back to Kakatiya reign. Also known as Laknavaram Cheruvu, this lake was first discovered by the Kakatiya rulers. They found a beautiful lake lying amid flourishing hills that surrounded it. It was then the rulers of Kakatiya reign built a small sluice gate that eventually transformed it into vast lake that now serve as water reservoir. Laknavaram Lake still serves as a source of irrational water for an area of around 3,500 acres of land, to six villages that are located nearby. It has the capacity to hold around 2.135 tmc ft. of water.

The boating charges at Lake Laknavaram are Rs. 50 for adults and Rs. 30 for kids. Charges for speed boat of Rs. 300 for a maximum of 4 people.

How to reach Laknavaram Lake, Warangal

Laknavaram Lake is located around 6 km away from Govindaraopet Mandal which is around 75 km away from Warangal. If you are coming from Warangal, you are required to drive on NH 202 in the direction of Mulugu. After a straight drive, crossing Mulug and Jangalapalli, you need to take a right turn and drive for 7 km to reach the lake. This lake is surrounded by a lush green forest and ornamental mountains as the backdrop; it sure leaves a spell on your senses.

Uppal Ring Road Bus Stop

Start your day early and on reaching Uppal Ring Road head towards Warangal Highway and keep going. The road straight leads to Warangal. If you had started too early, and you are feeling hungry, have a pit stop at Warangal for breakfast. This being the District Headquarters, there are quite a few good hotels.

Govindaraopet

And now that you have done your pet pooja head towards Govindraopet which is another 80 KMs. From here, meander through the forest for another 6 KMs and you will reach the Lake. A nominal entry fee of INR 10/- for Adults and INR 5/- for children is charged to enter the Lake. Boat Ride costs INR 50/- per Adult and INR 30/- for a Child and if you wish to experience the lake in a Speed Boat, be prepared to shell out INR 300/- . The timings are 08.00 AM to 05.30 PM.

Laknavaram Cheruvu

Small islands interspersed in this Lake add to the beauty, but what leaves you speechless is the hanging bridges connecting these mini islands. And this lake is famous for these hanging bridges. Post Monsoon is the best time to visit this lake, since the lake is full to its brim, the lush forests are alluringly greener on all the sides and the road leading to this place makes it a visual treat. The Kakatiya rulers were the first to discover this hidden lake. The tranquil surroundings make you relax and add a soothing effect on your mind, body and soul.

2 Thousand Pillar Temple

At a distance of 6 Kms from Warangal Railway Station (in Hanmakonda part of the city), Thousand Pillar Temple is one of the finest examples of Kakatiya architecture. Rudra Deva built this temple in 1163 AD in the style of star shaped Chalukyan temples and named after him as Sri Rudreshwara Swamy Temple, it is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Separate shires for Lord Surya & Lord Vishnu in the temple are connected to main shrine by a square mandap in the centre. A beautifully carved giant Nandi (bull) is seen on the platform connecting the shrines. The exterior wall of the temple, the ceiling slabs and the four central pillars of the mandap are decorated with finely carved sculptures. Poojas are still performed. The actual thousand pillar hall situated behind Nandi in the temple complex is currently being renovated by the archelogical department and closed for visitors. The temple is located between Warangal and Hanmakonda Chowrasta, close to main road. Timings: 6 AM .....

3 Warangal Fort

At a distance of 5 Kms from Warangal Railway Station, the historic Warangal Fort was built by Kakatiyas in 12th Century AD. The King Rudradeva started construction of this Fort when the capital was shifted from Hanamankonda. It was further extended by his nephew, Ganapati Deva and was finally completed by Princess Rani Rudrama Devi. The fort was mostly destroyed by invaders and only the ruins can be seen now. It is one of the popular tourist places to visit near Hyderabad as a weekend getaway. Most of the fort is filled with settlements and small area in the center of fort has Open Air Museum with architectural remains of Kakatiyas. The famous stone gateways (called Kirti Toranas) are situated here, about 30 feet high and still standing, a masterpiece carved from a single rock. 5 bhadra kali temple.

At a distance of 5 Kms from Warangal Railway Station, the Bhadra Kali Temple is situated on top a hillock towards Hanamkonda. This temple is famous for 2.7 meter stone idol of the deity with eight arms and a weapon in each hand, in sitting posture. This deity is believed to be worshipped by the Chalukyan ruler Pulakesin-II in the year 625 AD. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali, found in peaceful mood. This temple is located on the banks of Bhadrakali Lake. There is a park adjacent to the temple along Bhadrakali Lake which also has a shrine for Lord Siva in the form of Sri Chandra Mouleeswara. Brahmotsavas are held every year in the month of April/May in a grand manner. The festival attracts thousands of devotees from all over the region of Telangana. Timings: 5 AM to 1 PM & 3 - 9 PM. It's probably the only temple in the country to be known by the name of its sculptor, and among the popular places to experience Telangana Tourism. 2 Ramappa Lake

At a distance of 1 km from Ramappa Temple, 69 km from Warangal, Ramappa Lake is a manmade lake situated at Ramappa, Telangana. It is one of the must-include places in Ramappa Temple Tour Packages. Ramappa Lake is a magnificent example of the irrigation work of Kakatiya Rulers. Constructed in the 13th Century AD by King Ganapathi Deva, the waters of this lake are spread over an area of more than 82 Sq. km. The lake still provides water to irrigate 10,000 acres of land. At a distance of 30 km from Eturnagaram, 89 km from Ramappa Temple, 120 km from Bhadrachalam, and 140 km from Warangal, Bogatha Waterfall is a nice waterfall situated near Chikupally village in Wajedu Mandal in Khammam district of Telangana. Also known as Chikupally Falls, this is one of the popular tourist places to visit near Hyderabad, and among the best waterfalls in Telangana. Situated in a forest region between Kaleswaram and Bhadrachalam, Bogatha Falls is formed on Chikupally Vagu that merges with River Godavari. Situated amidst thick vegetation, Bogatha Falls is a favorite picnic spot for the residents of nearby villages. Dropping from a height of over 30 feet in several parallel streams, the water is collected into a large pool at the bottom of the falls. Swimming in the pool is a favorite activity here and swimming here is considered safe. 2 Pandavula Guhalu

At a distance of 3 km from Thirumalagiri, and 25 km from Ramappa Temple, Pandavula Guhalu is an ancient cave site situated near Thirumalagiri in the Jayshankar Bhupalpally district in Telangana. It is one of the famous places of heritage in Telangana, and among the best places to visit during the Ramappa Temple tour. Pandavula Guhalu is a prehistoric habitation site situated atop Pandavulakonda or Pandavula Gutta. The site was first discovered in the year 1990. Paleolithic cave paintings have been found here which offer a rare glimpse into the prehistoric man's rock art identified on walls and ceilings of caves, rock shelters, and isolated boulders.
