Thatgamecompany's critically acclaimed exploration game debuted on PC via the Epic Games Store last year.

After a year of exclusivity on the Epic Games Store , Journey , thatgamecompany's acclaimed game of exploration in the desert, is now available on Steam . And not only that—for the next two weeks, publisher Annapurna Interactive is throwing in a free copy of thatgamecompany's previous release, the also critically acclaimed Flower .

Journey sets players off as a robed figure in a great desert, on a path leading toward a distant mountain. It's a linear experience across multiple levels, with some gentle puzzles to solve and occasional encounters with other human players on their own journeys; you'll spend most of your time walking but you can also fly briefly, thanks to the powers of a magic scarf. As Shaun noted in April, "It's a simple concept, but the execution is gorgeous ."

Flower, originally released in 2009, is conceptually similar: You are " an invisible petal wizard ," as Jody aptly described it, blowing flower petals across idyllic, breezy landscapes. There are no enemies, scoring, or anything else, really—it's just meditative, musical exploration. 

Journey is currently on sale on Steam for $11/£8.50/€9, until July 9. It also remains available on the Epic Games Store , but it's not on sale there.

Journey Out Now On Steam, Includes Free Bonus Game

The critically acclaimed indie game released on Steam today with a launch discount and bonus freebie.

It's been eight years since the critically acclaimed indie game Journey first released, and now players on Steam can begin their own silent journeys through the game's desert landscape. Journey is available to own on Steam starting today, June 11, and it even has a launch discount and free game included to sweeten the deal (as if getting to experience Journey for the first time wasn't enticing enough).

From now until July 9, you can buy Journey on sale for $11.24 on Steam , down from its usual $15 list price. Journey is also included in the phenomenal Annapurna Interactive Collection bundle on Steam, which gets you a truly stellar group of games like Florence , If Found , What Remains of Edith Finch , and Telling Lies for $142.33, 10% off its $158.12 list price. That's not a huge savings, but if you haven't played any of these games, do yourself a favor and add them to your library.

Anyone who buys Journey on Steam within its first two weeks on the platform will also receive a free copy of Flower , created by the same studio, Thatgamecompany. Flower normally sells for $7 on its own, so it's a pretty sweet deal to get Journey on sale and snag Flower for free while you're at it. The game was well-received, earning an 8/10 in our Flower review .

In Journey, you control a nameless robed figure as they traverse a vast, empty desert, moving toward a large mountain looming in the distance. Journey was notable for its silent "multiplayer" interactions--along the way, you'll encounter other players, whom you can travel alongside and assist, but you can't communicate with them and won't see their names until after the credits. The game earned a "superb" 9/10 in GameSpot's Journey review for its beautiful environments, dynamic music, and evocative multiplayer interactions.

"It's a real accomplishment that Journey draws together so many conventional game elements, and so well, and still feels like the art piece we expect from the makers of Flow and Flower: intriguing, ambiguous, and experimental," wrote Jane Douglas. "The game's length, two or three hours on the outside, is exactly right, letting you take in the whole experience in one session. Once you've completed it, you can dip back into favourite chapters, and even without the impact of unexpected reveals, it's uncommonly enthralling. Its deliberate ambiguity brings on the urge to speculate on deeper meanings, but meaning here is bound to be personal, and best discovered for yourself. Discover it you should."

After many years of console exclusivity on various platforms, Steam users are now able to venture in the tranquil world of Thatgamecompany’s indie hit, Journey .

Originally making its console debut on the PS3 and later ported to PS4, Journey made its PC debut last June on the Epic Games Store, where it had an additional year-long exclusivity . The game was one of many console ports that Epic Games grabbed an exclusivity deal with during the store’s unveiling, some of which included games like Rebel Galaxy , Heavy Rain and Ashen . The exclusivity deals were a hot topic at the time with fan outrage on having to sign up for another storefront on PC just to gain access to certain games, where Steam has dominated the marketplace for a number of years.

Journey is considered an indie darling due to its unique approach to co-op. Instead of focusing on combat and team communication the game uses limited emotes for players to communicate with each other all while having no indication of who each other are. The goal of the game was to venture from a lowly desert to the top of a snow filled mountain that could be seen in the distance. Working together with others and splitting up at various triumphs and failures, the game is praised for its limited use of dialogue and ability to convey the struggles of one’s life experiences.

Journey is available now on PC, PS3, and PS4.

There are plenty of charming folks in the town of Moonbury - about 30, to be more precise - and a bevy of ingredients to find in the wilds outside of town as you work with the locals to expand the region and slay the monsters and upgrade the town.

Planet Zoo allows you to design, populate, and manage a zoo, all without the risk of human or animal welfare endangerment! Design the park of your dreams and fill it with animals, food stalls, gift shops, and more, then watch the customers stroll in from there.

While Frontier Developments nails the cozy games genre every time they try, with Planet Coaster being similarly fantastic , with the wholesomeness of animals and the childlike wonder of a day at the zoo at the forefront here, Planet Zoo takes the cozy cake.

Journey is a unique cozy game in that, while you play with other people, you never actually speak to anyone. You can communicate with others through a series of dulcet chimes, working together to solve puzzles and progress on your – well, journey .

This game sometimes feels more like an art piece than anything, with infinite landscaping that leaves you feeling comfortably small. The music swells and recedes as you travel, and the gameplay itself is smooth and easy. It’s no wonder Journey took home so many Game of the Year awards and has even earned a place in the Video Game Hall of Fame.
