Greg Kramer has passed away. In addition to being a fine actor, an excellent director, and an award-nominated author of novels and  short stories, Kramer was also a magician of considerable expertise. He was hired as a consultant by the Stratford Festival to help create the special effects for their recent production of The Tempest starring Christopher Plummer as Prospero.

Kramer’s own portrayal of Prospero, in Repercussion Theatre’s outdoor Tempest, remains a memorable one.

The Magical Greg Kramer is Gone Back to video

Kramer, who was in his early fifties, had a long battle with cancer and had lived for many years with one lung.

His last major role in a Centaur Theatre production was that of a twisted costume designer in the musical Haunted Hillbilly one year ago. As usual, he  stole every scene in which he appeared. Last fall he performed in two other productions presented at Centaur Theatre by other companies, playing a wise old man in Scapegoat Carnivale’s The Bacchae, and finally.  the Sherrif of Nottingham in the Geordie Productions Robin Hood last December.

His latest writing project, the play Sherlock Holmes, based on the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is due to open at the Segal Centre on May 5. He was also planning to play a role in the show.

The production, directed by Andrew Shaver, will go on as planned, reports the Segal Centre, whose artistic producer Paul Flicker issued this statement: “We mourn the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Greg Kramer. We cherish the time we spent with Greg, an inspired and talented actor, director and writer, musician and magician. Greg devoted his life to his art. We honour his memory and legacy by continuing on with his final gift to the world, his Sherlock Holmes.”

Kramer, who was openly gay, was born in Britain (Hertfordshire) and always credited Maggie Thatcher with giving him good reason to leave. He arrived in Vancouver in 1981, moved to Toronto in 1988 and Montreal in 1999. For the past several years he had been living in Ottawa, but had recently moved back to Montreal. He worked in theatres across Canada, including Centaur Theatre, where he directed Tiger’s Heart,  Art, and Have a Heart. At the Segal Centre, he directed Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Inherit the Wind.

Whenever Kramer’s name appeared on a press release, as a actor, director, ,or writer,  critics took note.

Bring on the Blooms!

greg kramer tour

During Peak Bloom, an annual rite of spring, visitors can observe more than 150 varieties of camellias and hundreds of azaleas along with nun’s orchids, irises, coral bean, Mexican flame vine, and other flowering plants as they create an explosion of color throughout the Gardens. Guests are encouraged to return throughout the bloom season to experience Mother Nature’s ever-changing palette of colors— and to take plenty of pictures.

“Our azaleas always steal the show, “says Greg Kramer, Gardens’ director of horticulture. “And the best time to visit is right now into the first few weeks of March while the bloom cycles for camellias and azaleas are overlapping.”

Violas, snapdragons, dianthus, delphiniums, holly hocks and other annuals also escort the arrival of spring with glorious displays of color. Trees in bloom include native plums and deciduous magnolias.

In Florida, seasons are gauged as being either rainy or dry, and flowering plants bloom in response to this water cycle. Additionally, chilly days with temperatures in the low ‘30s (without freezing) yield the most colorful, vibrant blooms. Winters with a hard freeze will cause azaleas to bloom all at once, while warmer winters yield blooms over a longer period of time.

Camellia at Bok Tower Gardens

Visitors can learn about the flora, fauna and history of the Gardens during hour-long guided garden walking tours through April 15, included with general admission. Tour hours are Monday through Saturday at noon and 2 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tours meet at the Visitor Center.

What began as nearly 50 acres of woodland gardens designed by Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. has grown to more than 600 acres of woodland gardens, nature trails, conservation lands and groves. The visual centerpiece of the Gardens is the 205-foot art deco and neo-Gothic Singing Tower , a pink marble and coquina stone architectural treasure that houses one of the world’s finest carillons. The 60 carillon bells ring every half hour and during daily concerts at 1 and 3 p.m.

True Loves bring deep soul music to the KNKX Studio X

They strut on stage like the coolest cats in music, but they'll tell you it's not them. but there is more to them than that. The True Loves secret is no secret at all. It's simply about making great music.

The True Loves celebrate 10 years of creating soulful grooves this year, including making their debut at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley . Before their second night at the venerable jazz venue, the septet brought their deep pockets filled with funk to the KNKX studios.

Rhythm is at the heart of everything the True Loves play. Guitarist Jimmy James, the band's reluctant frontman, pointed to James Brown's beat-focused bands to explain the True Loves' rhythmic philosophy. The legendary bandleader famously viewed every instrument in his band as connected to the drum.

There's also that feel. True Loves music just feels good. James is locked tight with Bryant Moore, David McGraw and Iván Galvez on bass, drums and percussion, each of them moving to the infectious groove.

Seattle Jazz Hall of Famer Skerik said he was honored to play baritone saxophone with the True Loves. The experience he gets on this lesser-used horn in his collection is valuable, but it's clear the Seattle jazz icon loves his role with this group.

Trombonist Greg Kramer talked about his appreciation of hip-hop and how his compositions bring modern elements to the neo-retro soul of the True Loves.

Tenor saxophonist Gordon Brown detailed the challenges of organizing this fantastic collection of first-call musicians. It can be difficult, but when the True Loves get together, it's magic for the band and their loyal fans around the Northwest and around the world.

After these two nights at Jazz Alley, the True Loves have a handful of shows out of state this Summer and plans to tour Europe for a second time. They hope to play again in Seattle as soon as possible, but it could be a while considering the band members' busy schedules.

Enjoy this Studio X performance from the True Loves now, and anytime you need to feel groovy.

Dr. Kramer's CV (Click to View)

Dr. Gregory Kramer grew up in Southfield, MI, and graduated from Southfield High. He completed his undergraduate studies at Central and Eastern Michigan University and furthered his studies at Los Angeles College of Chiropractic.

He is one of only ten chiropractors in the state of Michigan to have an advanced certification in Chiropractic Biophysics (Structural Rehab), one of three chiropractors to be a Diplomat of the American Academy of Medical Legal Professionals and affiliated with Functional Medicine University.

Having lived and practiced throughout the world, including Australia, Oregon, and Colorado, in 1994 he moved back home and opened his practice in Livonia, MI. He is married and has 3 children and 2 dogs. His wife and children share in his active lifestyle. As a family, they keep in shape with a brisk walk or bike ride each morning.

Since then he's cared for more than 100,000 patient visits during his 20 years of practice. "I've seen patients ranging from tiny toddlers, huge athletes, all the way up to 95-year-old osteoporotic women".

Patients seek Dr. Kramer for 3 main reasons.

  • One... Mechanical Spine Pain from Trauma - such as whiplash, work, and sports injuries. These traumas often injure the ligaments that hold your skeleton together. These ligament injuries are the number one cause of pain and disability worldwide. These ligament injuries can cause neck or back pain, headaches, dizziness, arm or leg pain, and a host of other symptoms. Doctors often miss these ligament injuries and they go undiagnosed. We solve this by using a simple objective x-ray procedure following AMA guidelines to show WHY people are hurt, demonstrating the exact LOCATION and SEVERITY of the patients' ligament injuries and associated mechanical failure or problems.
  • Two...  Chronic pain patients who have failed traditional and alternative care such as; chronic disc problems, chronic spine pain, headaches, posture and movement challenges, knee pain, foot pain, TMJD (jaw pain), fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, peripheral neuropathy, and weight loss.
  • Three...  Occupational Athletes are workers who sit, bend, or lift for a living. Too much sitting, stress, and poor diet lead to poor performance, pain, and injury at work. We solve this by combining posture-movement restoration, diet, stress reduction, and other lifestyle modifications so workers look, feel, and perform better.

Dr. Kramer attends trauma, spinal rehab, TMJD, and nutritional seminars regularly and stays current with the latest studies and cutting-edge procedures. He draws upon this information to help his patients achieve optimal health and performance.

His practice is different and clinically more advanced with State-of-the-Art computerized technology to assess his patients' posture, range of motion, nervous system stress, and metabolic and nutritional needs. This high-tech, high-touch approach allows for the best, most appropriate care for each individual patient. Techniques are specific to the patient. For instance, a two-hundred-fifty-pound male athlete will require a different type of adjustment than a ninety-year-old osteoporotic woman. Gentle instrument adjustments using an Arthrostim (mechanical hand-held instrument) provide these benefits: pain relief, better posture, and mobility. Additionally, this approach does not cause a "cracking" sound.

Patients greatly appreciate the 'anti-aging' effects such as breathing deeper, feeling, and looking better produced by Dr. Kramer's technique.

Most importantly, it is not just how much he knows but how much he cares about helping you as an individual, look, feel, and perform at your best.

At our chiropractic office in Livonia MI, we believe that the pursuit of optimal wellness is an active process of making choices toward a more healthy existence.

We strive for objectivity in nutritional healthcare and provide clear chiropractic options in structural healthcare. We help Livonia residents reach optimum health, so they can reach their fullest potential in life.

I hope you'll choose a Livonia MI Chiropractor prepared to graciously serve and help you achieve your individual health goals.

UPDATE, with video: Michael Richards visited The View today and revisited the 2006 racist comedy club outburst that led to a decades-long withdrawal from the public eye.

Greeted with a warm “Welcome back, man,” by old friend and View moderator Whoopi Goldberg , Richards, promoting his new memoir Entrances and Exits , and the panelists wasted little time before addressing the still-hot topic.

“Well, I’m on stage with a microphone in my hand,” Richards said, “doing an act, breaking in material, it’s late at night, and a man in the audience made an announcement that I’m not funny, he doesn’t think I’m very funny.

“First,” he continued, “I must say, look, I’m not a normal man. A lot of eccentricity going on in my kind of comedy. I could never have created a character like Kramer without being slightly touched. So I went into character, and I work in a comedy club environment where the n-word is used a lot and I decided I would let it loose.”

The Seinfeld actor went on to describe his issues with rage. “When that rage came about, and the rage is channeled into a character…that got me deeper into hell. I felt I got hit so I hit back. That person went low so I’m going lower. I’m very emotional about it, after 18 years you can feel it…”

When Richards said the n-word was used “a lot” in comedy clubs of the era, co-host Joy Behar interjected, “It’s not used anymore. Those days are over.”

“For me,” Richards added, “they certainly are.”

Asked by Behar whether he still feels rage, Richards responded, “Anger is still around, it’s the color of my fur. I went personal, personal then I started seeing it collectively and the rage behind the wars and I’m there in a club making war on my fellow man.”

"I'M NOT A NORMAL MAN." Michael Richards of 'Seinfeld' fame opens up about his 2006 racist rant at a comedy club that he now calls "horrific," which he discusses in his new memoir 'Entrances and Exits': "I cancelled myself out." pic.twitter.com/AEl73NRlLE — The View (@TheView) June 4, 2024

Sun Valley 2024 Invites Shari Redstone, OpenAI’s Sam Altman, Jason Blum and More (EXCLUSIVE)

Bob Iger and potential Disney successors, CAA’s Bryan Lourd, Maryland governor Wes Moore also on the "mogul summer camp" guest list.

Shari Redstone, Sam Altman, and Jason Blum

It’s that time of year again!

The old guard in media and finance and the tech innovators disrupting them are gearing up to hit Allen & Co.’s leadership retreat Sun Valley – where private jets sit bumper-to-bumper and power is carved up and handed out among global players. It’s an ultra-secretive event for the one-percent set (think Davos with higher fences).

Related Stories

‘blue angels’ tests imax’s new ‘documentary blockbuster’ plan, sandra hüller, sean baker, laura poitras call for solidarity with mohammad rasoulof and iranian filmmakers in open letter (exclusive), popular on variety.

The Sun Valley confab comes during an extremely turbulent time on the global stage. Wars in Gaza and Ukraine are producing ceaseless violence and eroding the social fabric in America. Morale in the entertainment media sector is perhaps at an all-time low as work is harder to come by for many creatives, austerity reigns and the box office is tanking. That’s to say nothing of the U.S. presidential election, which is looming in November. But the guest list offers clues as to how the retreat might address many of these hot topics.

Leadership from American universities — many of which have been grappling with demonstrations as the situation in the Middle East deteriorates — are expected to hit the bucolic retreat. University of Florida president Ben Sasse (a former U.S. senator), University of Chicago president Paul Alivisatos, Georgetown University president Jack DeGioia, Harvard University professor and former U.S. military attaché for Israeli forces Amos Yadlin, and USC dean of the Annenberg School for Communications and Journalism Willow Bay are all invited.

Further representing show business on this list are Sun Valley mainstays Oprah Winfrey (and BFF Gayle King!) and Brian Grazer of Imagine Entertainment. Comcast president Mike Cavanagh, Mattel CEO Ynon Kreiz, newly minted CAA owner François-Henri Pinault, LiveNation’s Michael Rapino, and Charlie Rivkin of the MPA may show. Most of those executives are linked to traditional media. But they will get a chance to hang out with the tech entrepreneurs who are reshaping daily life or, in some cases, making their businesses more complicated. Among the Silicon Valley crowd are Uber’s Dara Khosrowshahi, Activision’s Bobby Kotick, YouTube’s Neal Mohan, Palantir’s Alex Karp, Roku’s Anthony Wood and SalesForce’s Marc Benioff.

There’s also a number of political figures, such as Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, who are rumored to be considering presidential runs in 2028. If they do attend Sun Valley, it may be partly to establish ties to the donor set. Chuck Schumer, the Democratic leader in the Senate, is also on the guest list as he looks to protect his majority. One of that chamber’s soon to be departing members, Kyrsten Sinema, got an invite — the Democrat turned Independent has announced she will not seek re-election. Brad Little, the Idaho governor, made the cut, as befitting his status running the state playing host to the gathering, as did Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon.

The Murdochs — Rupert, sons Lachlan and James, and his ex–wife Wendi — are welcome to stroll the resort town’s grounds in their finest stealth wealth weekend gear. That should give off “Succession” vibes: On the HBO series, the Murdochs’ TV doppelgangers, the Roy clan, attended a Sun Valley-like retreat as they struggled to contain the fallout from a corporate scandal.

Among the other industry titans who could soon be rocking windbreakers are Barry Diller, Spanx’s Sara Blakely, Michael Bloomberg, Airbnb’s Brian Chesky, investor Peter Thiel, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek, Liberty Global’s Mike Fries and Google CEO Sundar Pichai. Most of these chieftains and pashas will ignore the media that shouts questions to them between lectures, lunches, hikes and rafting excursions, but you can often see them positioning themselves so that the army of photographers gets them in their shots. A picture taken at Sun Valley is its own status symbol. It’s a visual reminder that you belong to the most elite club in media.
