Disney Cruise Line Announces New All Aboard Time

B eginning in late summer, the Disney Magic and Disney Wish sailings departing from Florida ports will have an earlier “all aboard” time.

Disney Magic & Disney Wish All Aboard Times

Starting on September 2, 2024, guests must be onboard by 3 p.m. on the first day of their sailing instead of 4 p.m. Guests who arrive after 3 p.m. will be denied boarding.

Guests with sailings departing on or after that date will receive SeaMails informing them of the change.

Disney Cruise Line guests are still required to choose a port arrival time during online check-in and should arrive during that window to avoid issues.

The Disney Magic departs from Ft. Lauderdale and the Disney Wish departs from Port Canaveral.

Guide to the New Disney Cruise Line Fort Lauderdale Port

Posted on Published: 03/26/2024

If you want to take a Caribbean or Bahamian cruise, Florida is one of the best states to cruise from. There are several different cruise ports throughout the state, with many options for cruise ships and cruise lines.

Port Everglades, located in Fort Lauderdale Florida, is one of these popular cruise ports. The Fort Lauderdale cruise port is home to a new Disney Cruise Line terminal. This port can be the perfect starting point for your cruise family vacation.

This post contains affiliate links and we may receive a commission from one of these links. We paid full price for our cruise but have been on media cruises in the past at no or lower cost. All opinions are my own.

Check prices and book your cruise here .

Why Cruise from Fort Lauderdale, Florida?

If you are flying in for your family cruise, you may wonder which cruise port to leave from. In general, I recommend looking at the specific cruise first, then the cruise port second (especially for the Florida cruise ports, since there are several options).

However, Fort Lauderdale is an excellent option to consider. It’s easy to fly to, with flight options through either Fort Lauderdale Airport or the Miami International Airport.

While the Fort Lauderdale airport is generally easier, you may find more options through Miami. Both are short drives from the airport, unlike Port Canaveral which is a longer distance from the Orlando Airport.

Regardless of which airport you fly through, I’d recommend staying overnight at least the night before. Flight delays are always a risk, and if you fly in a day earlier, you’ll have some extra time.

As someone who lives in the Northeast, I also enjoy flying in a day or two earlier so that I can enjoy the Florida weather before my cruise vacation from Fort Lauderdale.

While the Fort Lauderdale cruise port (Port Everglades) is not new, Disney Cruise Line has just opened a brand-new cruise terminal. I had the opportunity to sail out of this terminal for my recent cruise on the Disney Dream . In addition to Port Canaveral, this is one of the more popular Disney Cruise departure ports.

Disney Cruise Line Fort Lauderdale Port

Arriving at the fort lauderdale disney cruise line port.

Whether you are coming from the airport or hotel, or driving, it’s easy to access the Disney Cruise Line Fort Lauderdale port. You will need to show ID to get through port security, but you’ll be able to take a cab or ride share if you aren’t driving.

It’s a large port, so it’s important to know that the Disney Cruise Line terminal at Port Everglades is Terminal 4. There are likely to be quite a few ships in port.

Parking is available in a port parking garage, which opens up at 10:45 AM. If you have a lot of luggage, you can pull up to the port first to drop off luggage with porters, before being directed to the parking garage.

Arriving via ride share or being dropped off? They’ll be able to pull up along Terminal 4 to drop you off at the terminal.

Once you arrive, you can leave any luggage with the porters to be delivered to your stateroom later in the afternoon/early evening. You’ll need to carry anything you don’t check, and keep in mind that your stateroom may not be ready when you arrive on the ship.

Disney Cruise Line mails your luggage tags in advance to your home, so be sure to have them on your bag. If you happen to forget them, the porters can write you out a tag.

These porters are not employed by Disney and do accept tips. Make sure to have some cash available to tip. Make sure no essentials (especially your Passport and other documents, as well as medication) are in your day bag and not in this checked luggage.

Checking In For Your Cruise

Once you check your luggage in with a porter (if you choose to), you’ll be directed to go into the terminal. We saw overhead fans in this outdoor queue area, meaning some people may need to wait outside. But we walked right into the terminal.

We checked in with a terminal employee, although most of our actual check-in was completed online. There are separate lines for Castaway Club members and first-time cruisers. If you have a DisneyBand+ (which is completely optional), they can assist in activating it.

Once we completed our check-in, we went through security. This is very similar to an airline security process, but you won’t need to remove your shoes or any liquids in your bag. You also don’t have to follow the TSA liquids rule .

When you check in online, you’ll receive a confirmation with a QR code. You’ll need this QR code until you get your Key to the World key on your stateroom door, so be sure to keep it handy.

There’s plenty of seating, restrooms, and vending machines in this main terminal. Our boarding group had already been called at this point, so we walked right up to enter the ship. Before walking through the Mickey Ear entrance, you can choose to take a group photo.

Like other cruise ports, staterooms are generally not ready until about 1:30-2 pm. Most people go right to lunch in Cabanas and then go to their rooms. Luggage is delivered throughout the afternoon into early evening.

Disembarking Through the Disney Cruise Line Port Everglades Flight

If you choose to have Disney Cruise Line handle your bags, you’ll need to put them out the night before. Make sure you haven’t packed anything you’ll need in the morning (like your toothbrush or clothing), in this bag.

You can choose to do a walk-off if you don’t check your bags. In that case, you’ll be one of the first off the ship.

Otherwise, you’ll need to remember the character that was on the bag tag of your checked bags. When that bag tag is called, you can disembark the ship. You’ll find your luggage on or near a table labeled with that character.

Once you have all of your luggage, you can go through customs with your passport. Then, you’ll be directed out of the terminal based on where you are going and what type of transportation you are taking there. Our disembarkation (we did a walk-off) was very quick and easy for this latest cruise.

Staying Overnight Before Your Flight

We highly recommend staying at a nearby hotel the night before your cruise, if you need to fly in. With flight delays and lost luggage always a risk, it’s a good idea to have some extra time.

This map (with affiliate links) will show some nearby lodging options. There are some wonderful hotels right on the beach, or you can choose a more reasonably priced chain with fewer amenities. While some hotels offer paid shuttle service to the airport, a ride share may be less expensive.

Where are the Florida Disney Cruise Line Terminals located?

There are two active, year-round Disney Cruise ship terminals in Florida. Disney Cruise Line offers departures from Port Canaveral Terminal and Port Everglades Fort Lauderdale Terminal. Previous departures also took place from the Miami Port Terminal, though nothing is currently scheduled from there.

Below we list everything you need to know about Disney cruise ships departing from Florida, including the specific addresses of the terminals.

Departures from Port Canaveral, Florida

Port Canaveral

Port Canaveral, FL | Image © Disney

Which Disney cruise ships sail out of Port Canaveral Terminal?

The Disney Fantasy and the Disney Wish cruise ships currently depart from the Port Canaveral terminal. The Disney Treasure will sail from Port Canaveral starting in late 2024. And the Disney Magic returns to Port Canaveral in mid 2025.

Port Canaveral is one of the busiest cruise ports in the world, and it’s also the home port of Disney Cruise Line. Disney Cruise Line ships departing from Port Canaveral will sail to destinations throughout the Caribbean and Bahamas during 2024, 2025, and 2026.

Port Canaveral, located on Florida’s Space Coast, is about an hour’s drive from Orlando. The Port Canaveral terminal is located just minutes from the beach, and it’s also relatively close to Orlando International Airport (MCO).  If you’re flying into MCO, ground transportation options can take you directly to the port. And because it’s so close to Orlando, it’s a popular port for people who’ve decided to extend their Disney World vacation by cruising with Disney for the first time .

Several parking options are available near the terminal if you’re driving to Port Canaveral.

No matter how you’re getting to Port Canaveral, it’s easy to start your cruise vacation from this convenient location.

Disney Cruise Line – Port Canaveral Terminal Address

The address for the main Disney Cruise Line terminal (CT #8) at Port Canaveral is:

9155 Charles M. Rowland Dr. Port Canaveral, FL 32920

Parking is available adjacent to the DCL terminal in a garage operated by the Port Canaveral Port Authority. The garage typically opens at 10:15 AM, and cash is not accepted for payment.

NOTE: Select Disney Cruises may depart from Cruise Terminal #10 instead on days when there are two Disney ships in port. If driving to the port, be sure to carefully follow signs for the name of your specific ship.

Approximately how long does it take to drive to Port Canaveral?

  • A 43-minute drive from Orlando International Airport (MCO)
  • A 46-minute drive from Melbourne Orlando International Airport (MLB)
  • A 61-minute drive from Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB)
  • A 60-minute drive from Walt Disney World Resort

Note that high-profile rocket launches at nearby Cape Canaveral can have major impacts on traffic in the region; plan accordingly should a launch be scheduled on the first or last day of your cruise.

Transfers between Orlando International Airport and Port Canaveral

Disney Cruise Line offers bus transportation from Orlando International Airport to Disney’s Cruise Port. This option provides a simple way to go between the cruise port from the airport.

A one-way ticket costs $45 per person, and a round trip is $90. Children under the age of three are free.

The cost of a family of four’s round-trip transportation on a Disney Cruise Line bus to the port is $360. This charge includes baggage handling service. You will get custom luggage tags for all your checked bags before departing, along with specific instructions on how to use them based on your travel plans.

Follow those instructions, and the rest will be taken care of by Disney. On the first night of your cruise, they will appear at your stateroom door as if by magic. The luggage transfer service provided by the Disney Cruise bus is a key benefit of airport-to-port transportation to Port Canaveral.

Call (800) 951-3532 to arrange ground transfers in advance, or better yet, have The Vacationeer do it for you!

It is also possible to arrange private transportation from Orlando Airport to Port Canaveral. You can take an Uber, Lyft, taxi, limo, or private van service. If you prefer, you can also rent a car at the airport.

Which should you take? We think the Disney Cruise Line transfer option or Uber would be your best bet . Renting a car is not necessary. The Vacationeer can assist you with transportation ground. What Disney Cruise Ships sail out of the Port of Miami Terminal?

At the moment, no Disney cruise ships are scheduled to sail out of Miami.

The port had been home to regularly-scheduled Disney cruises for about 12 years, but the most recent scheduled departure was on October 3, 2023. Shortly afterward, Disney opened a dedicated year-round terminal at Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale), some 30 miles away. Because of this, it is unlikely that Miami will be used as a major departure port for Disney in the foreseeable future.

The Port of Miami, commonly called PortMiami, is a major seaport situated at the mouth of the Miami River. It is the world’s largest passenger port and one of the largest cargo ports in North America.

As the busiest cruise/passenger port in the world, PortMiami also enjoys the title “cruise capital of the world.” The port is home to several major cruise lines.

PortMiami is just 15 minutes away from Miami Airport.

Disney Cruise Line – Miami Port Terminal Address

The address for the Miami Port Terminal is:

Port Miami 1015 North America Way Miami, FL 33132

When you arrive at the port, follow the signs to the appropriate terminal. You’ll then be asked to park your car in a nearby lot (about half a mile away). A shuttle runs from the terminal to the ship.

Parking is available onsite through Port Miami.

Approximately how long does it take to drive to the Port of Miami?

  • A 15-minute drive from Miami International Airport (MIA)
  • A 50-minute drive from Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport (FLL)
  • A 3 hour and 19-minute drive from Walt Disney World Resort
  • A 3 hour and 22-minute drive from Orlando International Airport (MCO)

Transfers between Miami International Airport and Port of Miami

Transfers to and from the airport are typically available (only on embarkation and departure days) for a fee. If you wish to purchase ground transfers in advance, you can call (800) 951-3532, as a limited number may be available upon arrival. Better yet, contact The Vacationeer and let them handle it!

Pick up your luggage at Baggage Claim when you arrive at Miami International Airport. You will be directed to your designated transportation by a Disney Cruise Line representative outside Baggage Claim. Depending on arrival time and the number of passengers, the vehicle may be a taxi, minibus, or motor coach.

You can also arrange private transportation between Miami Airport and the Port of Miami. Your options include taking an Uber, Lyft, taxi, limo, or private van service. You can also rent a car at the airport if you choose (but it’s not recommended).

Which Florida Port is Best for Disney Cruises?

The best Florida Port for a Disney Cruise will depend on where you are coming from and where you wish to go.

Many Disney Cruise passengers plan to spend a few days at Walt Disney World before or after their time on a Disney cruise ship. For them, Port Canaveral is the best option.

Those who are flying into Florida just for the Disney cruise, don’t have to be quite so choosy. That said, Port Everglades and Port Miami are closer to major airports than Port Canaveral.

What are the best Disney Cruises from Florida?

The most important consideration is to find a Disney cruise ship and an itinerary that fits your needs. Once you accomplish this, you’ll have your best Disney Cruise ship .

The best Disney Cruises from Florida will simply depend on where – and for how long – you and your family wish to travel. So whether it’s taking a short 3-day cruise to Nassau and Castaway Cay (which is a great way to save on your cruise ) or splurging on a 10-day Southern Caribbean voyage, the best Disney cruise departing from Florida will depend on your own goals and circumstances.

Disney Cruise from New York

Sharing is caring!

disney cruise new york to florida

For 2012 the Disney Magic will cruise from New York. This is the first time that the Magic has cruised out of New York. There are 3 different itineraries which will sail from New York – an 8 night Bahamian cruise, a 5 night Canadian Disney cruise, and a 2 night weekend cruise.

Disney 8 Night Bahamian Cruise from New York

The itineraries give a wonderful opportunity to visit some great ports including Disney’s own private island Castaway Cay. Disney cruisers consistently say that Castaway Cay is their very favorite port.

The cruise from New York is also the only Disney cruise to have Walt Disney World as a port stop in the middle of the itinerary. The Disney Magic will sail to Port Canaveral in the middle of the cruise so that passengers have the chance to visit Walt Disney World. The cruise price includes a one day ticket and transportation to Walt Disney World so that passengers have the opportunity to easily visit the parks during their cruise. This is a unique feature not offered by any other cruise available.

The Disney Magic will sail from New York on May 25th, June 2nd, June 22nd, June 30th, July 20th, July 28th, August 17th, and August 25th 2012

All departures are on a Friday for 8 nights except June 2nd, June 30th, July 28th and August 25th when the Magic leaves port on a Saturday.

Friday New York City Saturday At Sea Sunday At Sea Monday Nassau Tuesday Castaway Cay Wednesday Port Canaveral Florida Thursday At Sea Friday At Sea Saturday New York City

Disney 5 night Canadian Cruise from New York

The Disney Magic departs from New York on the Canadian cruises on June 10th, June 17th, July 8th, July 15th, August 5th, August 12th, September 2nd, September 7th, September 12th 2012.

The Canadian itinerary is:

Sunday New York Monday At Sea Tuesday Halifax Nova Scotia Wednesday Saint John New Brunswick Thursday At Sea Friday New York

All departures are on a Sunday except 7th September which is a Friday and 12th September which is a Wednesday.

The Canadian cruises include 2 new port stops for Disney – Halifax and Saint John. This is a great chance for passengers living close to New York to try out a Disney cruise.

2 Night Weekend Disney Cruises from New York

If you are looking for a short cruise break then these 2 night itineraries are the perfect chance to try a Disney cruise. Rarely does Disney ever have 2 night itineraries so this is a great chance to have a weekend break.

Sailings are on June 15th, July 13th, and August 10th

Friday New York Saturday At Sea Sunday New York

Disney has not yet announced it’s itineraries for the Disney Magic or the Wonder for 2013 but I would guess that New York will once again be used as a home port for the Disney Magic. It seems likely that the Disney Wonder will be moving out of Los Angeles – Disney cancelled most of their Mexican cruises for December 2012 out of LA so it looks as though the ship will be set for a chance.

Whichever cruise you choose for your family make sure that you get great advice from a Disney Travel Agent.

Disney’s New Cruise Line Private Island Destination Opens This Week

On June 6, 2024, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point joins Castaway Cay as a Disney-exclusive island attraction offering one-day excursions with family fun.

The cruise industry overall surged in popularity last year following a rebound from the pandemic.

Cruise Lines International Association captures this growth in its annual State of the Cruise Industry report. In its latest findings, cruising surpassed pre-pandemic levels in 2023, reaching 107% of 2019 levels. Those levels include 31.7 million passengers globally, with 18.1 million cruising in North America, Disney Cruise Line’s primary market. 2024 shows more growth, with 34.7 million global passengers projected to sail on the high seas this year.

Disney Cruise Line’s current expansion plans include the addition of four new ships to its fleet between 2022 and 2025 and a new private island destination that opens this summer.

Leaning Into Authentic Caribbean Culture

Disney selected the Bahamian island of Eleuthera as the home of Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. Eleuthera sits along the island’s southern shores, and the guests will note Bahamian influences throughout its architecture, dining, and character costumes, among other elements. These influences concentrate around the Goombay Cultural Center. Centrally located at Lookout Cay, the center features local artists and other activities to immerse guests into the Bahamas.

Lindsay Brookshier, content director of Mickey Visit, shares her thoughts on Disney’s approach to designing Lookout Cay. “They are working to create a destination authentic to the Bahamas culture that showcases the area’s natural beauty. The concept artwork that I have gotten to preview has been stunning. This looks like it will be a fantastic addition to the existing Castaway Cay private island destination.”

Lookout Cay embraces the spirit and culture of the Bahamas, even featuring an array of bright, vibrant flavors at its several eateries. In addition to classics like burgers and salads, dining options include Bahamian Pigeon Peas & Rice, Plant-based Island Curry, and Bahamian-style Lime marinated grilled snapper.

Mickey, Minnie, and the rest of the gang will sport new, island-exclusive apparel. Mikkel Woodruff, Editor of Sometimes Sailing, highlights these as one of the exciting and unique aspects of Lookout Cay. Woodruff explains, “I can’t wait to take photos with Mickey and Minnie in their colorful cruise outfits designed by Bahamian fashion designer Theodore Elyett. Only Disney could bring this to the Bahamas!”

Paradise for All Ages

Like other Disney destinations, Lookout Cay offers fun experiences and amenities for adventurers of all ages. A day at the private island includes character meet-and-greets and lively entertainment. Lookout Cay’s multiple water play areas, including Rush Out Gush Out Water Play, keep little ones occupied. Two shows — RUSH! A Junkanoo Celebration and Disney Fun in the Sun Beach Bash — blend Bahamian culture with classic Disney entertainment.

Local experts offer guided tours of the island, and bold voyagers can traverse trails and utilize bicycle rental services to trek around Eleuthera. Family-friendly beaches boast beautiful cabanas rentable by those seeking a soothing, subdued stay, whether parents vacationing without kids or traveling solo.

Freelance journalist and theme park expert Megan duBois says she anticipates “enjoying the adults-only spaces, which are a quiet area away from all the controlled chaos of the family beaches.” The adult-exclusive areas of Lookout Cay include a beach and separate dining areas.

High Expectations From Cruisers

Disney first announced Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point in 2019. Anticipation grew as the cruise line industry bounced back following the pandemic.

Sarah Gilliland, founder of On the Road with Sarah and Managing Travel Editor for Wealth of Geeks, emphasizes the stiff competition. She notes, “It all sounds good on paper, but the real test will be seeing how the island’s first visitors receive it. So far, it looks a little more exciting than Castaway Cay but not as exciting as Royal Caribbean’s CocoCay. It’s difficult to complete with a water park!”

To impress avid cruisers, duBois says Disney is rising to the occasion. “Lighthouse Point will exceed expectations compared to Castaway Cay and even other cruise line private islands. Disney has learned a lot over the years of operating Castaway Cay, and that knowledge is finally being used by finalizing Lighthouse Point.”

Disney Cruise Line’s initial itineraries include Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point on 3-, 4-, and 5-night Bahamian Cruises out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and 10-night Southern Caribbean cruises out of Port Canaveral, Florida.

disney cruise new york to florida

With Hurricane Beryl moving across the Caribbean , many cruise ships have had to alter their courses.

In an effort to avoid the storm, as well as for the safety and comfort of passengers on board, cruise lines like Norweigan Cruise Line, Carnival Cruise Line, and even Disney Cruise Line have made changes to their itineraries.

Currently, the Disney Fantasy , the fourth ship in Disney Cruise Line’s fleet , is on a seven-day Western Caribbean cruise.

disney cruise new york to florida

The ship left Port Canaveral on Saturday and was expected to make stops at Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Jamaica, and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay .

disney cruise new york to florida

The ship was supposed to dock in Falmouth, Jamaica, tomorrow, July 3rd. However, due to Hurricane Beryl, this port day was replaced with a day at sea.  Disney along with other cruise lines want both passengers and crew to be safe during this storm and moving from a port day to a sea day does just that.

Disney world | heat advisory issued for central florida with heat index that could hit 110, things to do, theme parks, disney world, disney world | cabins fever: disney rolls out new fort wilderness accommodations.

New cabins have been moved into place at Fort Wilderness Resort at Walt Disney World. (Dewayne Bevil/Orlando Sentinel)

The longtime accommodations, located on Bay Lake across from Magic Kingdom theme park, are being rolled off and replaced with colorful, newly constructed models in phases. The first loop now is complete and ready for occupants.

“We have about 30 cabins on for this wave. Throughout the year, we’re going to introduce more cabin loops as we go,” said Lauren Gossett, general manager of Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. “In early 2025, we should be ready to go for everybody.”

There will be more than 350 units when the job is done, and they will now be considered Disney Vacation Club properties. Each 504-square-foot cabin sits on the footprint of its predecessor. The campground dates back to 1971, a few weeks after Walt Disney World first opened.

“What I love the most, probably, is the additional windows. … Just the natural light, you can see the beautiful scenery around you,” Gossett said. “The Disney touches and the Disney IP [intellectual property] are fabulous – understated, but yet, so well done,” she said.

disney cruise new york to florida

The new cabins have a high, slanted ceiling, with out-of-reach windows that help form a wall of glass looking from the living area/kitchen unit onto a private deck. Each cabin sleeps up to six people. There are a queen-size bed and bunk beds in the separate bedroom plus a queen-size pull-down bed in the living area.

There’s a full bathroom (more up-there windows) with a stand-alone vanity in the adjacent hallway.

DIsney characters are used sparingly inside. In a mural behind the lower bunk, visitors can spy Donald Duck’s feet sticking out of a pup tent. Chip ‘n’ Dale appear in multiple locations, from a silhouette in the drapes to wood carvings in the bedroom. Dale can be seen lounging in a tree behind the upper bunk next to a sign with the date of Nov. 19, the opening date of Fort Wilderness.

Epcot’s Eat to Beat concerts 2024 include Archuleta, Yellowcard, Wanted

“Chip ‘n’ Dale was a natural integration because they’re already at the fort and we wanted to just carry them into the cabins for that continuity, but then also highlight some of our other popular characters like Mickey, Pluto and Donald,” said Suzanne Szak, an interior designer on the project.

The design of the cabins is identical with a goal of “trying to maximize every square inch of space for guests to store their things,” Szak said. The bed is raised, making room for luggage beneath, and there are drawers under the bunk beds.

The furniture is multipurpose, she said, with stools used as dining-table seating or as end tables.

The exteriors of the cabins are also identical to one another, with the exception of color. The new units are painted in outdoorsy greens, blues, reds and tans in contrast with the loggy brown look of the previous cabins. During the transition, Fort Wilderness visitors will be able to see both styles in place. The older cabins have been in use since 1999.

Incorporating the cabins into the DVC system will bring “the comforts of home to the great outdoors,” said Cesar Avila, senior manager of marketing and sales strategy.

Scenes from the Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort, now part of Disney Vacation Club. The new structures are being introduced in phases, replacing models that had been in place since 1999. (Dewayne Bevil/Orlando Sentinel)

It stands alone among the 17 DVC properties, which stretch from Disney World to Vero Beach to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina and out west to Disneyland in California and the Aulani resort in Hawaii.

“There really isn’t anything else like this,” Avila said.

“This is the first time that we have these like standalone cabins and you have your own private deck, you have the opportunity to grill outside, you can rent the golf cart, and you can enjoy the entire property,” he said.

DVC membership is not required to stay in one of the new cabins.

Fort Wilderness covers 750 acres and hosts recreational vehicles and tents. It’s home to several recreational activities, including fishing, kayaking, archery and horseback riding. Also based at the resort is the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revenue, a long-running dinner show.

“I think we have such a great affiliation when it comes to our DVC members,” Gossett said. “It’s another thing to add to our portfolio. … It’s a different feel.”
