Celebrity Cruises: 340 Blu Menu Items

blu cruises

Celebrity Cruises’s Blu restaurant , unsurprisingly decorated in a blue and white tones, is available exclusively for AquaClass guests for breakfast and dinner. Lunch is not served in Blu.

Blu offers “cleaner” cuisine, which often means lighter and healthier fare on the menu. At least one vegetarian option is available as a starter as well as an entrée for dinner.

There are 340 different dishes offered in Blu, although many dinner starters, entrées, and desserts are only offered on a rotating basis. Excluding desserts and juices/smoothies, there are over 90 different vegetarian dishes.

Blu is much more intimate than the Main Dining Room (MDR). While capacity varies by ship, Blu can typically seat a maximum of 120 to 160 guests. By comparison, non- Edge class ships seat 1,400 to 1,500 in the MDR.

No reservations are required or accepted to dine at Blu for AquaClass guests. If you’re dining with a large group (6+ people), you may be offered a reservation to ensure that an appropriately-sized table is available at your preferred time.

AquaClass guests may also be able to order off of the MDR menu when dining in Blu (not included below), depending on the ship, although they can only dine in the actual MDR on a space-available basis.

Suite guests can also dine in Blu if requested and space is available; most suite guests dine in their own suite-only Luminae restaurant.

Blu is a specialty restaurant reserved for Aqua Class cabins only. However, suite guests may have access for a small fee and only if there is availability. Besides these guests no other guests may use Blu.

We’ve staying in Aqua Class on several occasions and have always enjoyed dining Blu. We like the smaller, intimate atmosphere and we also like getting to know the staff and martri d.

Where is Blu located?

Blu is located near the other specialty restaurants and is its own separate restaurants. It is not a section of the MDR. The decor does have a good amount of the color blue in it. It is a beautiful and very aesthetically pleasing restaurant, but guests love it for more intimate service and for what many consider to be better food. The food tends to be lighter and not as heavy as the food in MDR. However, if you do want something from the MDR they usually can accommodate.

Does Blu service Breakfast and Lunch?

Blu only serves Breakfast and not lunch. Their breakfast, however, is very popular with Blu guests and I would venture a guess that many book Aqua class for the breakfast!

Are there set dining times in Blu?

No, while you can make reservations, there are no set dining times. You come and go as you please just as a normal restaurant.

I have friends or family in a non aqua class cabin, can they dine with us?

No, unfortunately not. If they are in a suite they may be able to provided there is space available and they pay an extra fee. Yes, this rule is hard and fast and they do not make exceptions. If you want to dine with friends in a regular cabin, then arrangements can be made in the MDR.

Can Blu work around dietary restrictions?

Yes, they most definitely can. As a matter of fact, I would imagine they would be even better at working with dietary restrictions than the main dining room giving the more intimate nature of the dining room and staff.

Does my drink package work in Blu?

Yes, it most certainly does. Just like in the MDR or any specialty restaurants, you are able to fully utilize your drink package in Blu.

Luminae vs. Blu

We are trying to decide between booking a Sky Suite or an Aqua Class cabin.  We have booked Aqua Class on previous cruises and enjoyed the food and atmosphere in Blu.  How does Luminae compare to Blu.  If it isn’t much different, not sure it is worth the cost of a suite.  What would be some other benefits to a SS?

access to the Retreat lounge, sundeck and a butler.  I useed the lounge and sundeck frequently, but not the butler, no real reason for not doing so, he was delightful, but I was out and about a lot and enjoyed Luminae so much I really did not feel the need to eat in my room, other than breakfast one morning.

IMO the food and service in Luminae are head and shoulders above that in Blu, but so is the price. Which ship are you sailing? If S or E class, a regular room with a dining package allowing you to eat all of your meals in specialty restaurants might be a better value. We sailed Summit in an S2 a few years ago and even though the suite experience was nice, the room itself was terrible - not all rooms in all classes on all ships are created equal. Just something to weigh before choosing a suite!

We find Luminae to be the weak link in the Retreat.  While the service is excellent so is the service in Blu.  The Luminae menu is very limited, which if you are looking at a S or M Class ship then you can order from the MDR menu.  But then why pay for Luminae and order from the MDR menu.  On E class ordering from the MDR other the the everyday items isn’t a option.

If you are looking at a E Class ship the Sun Deck is great and the Retreat Lounge is nicer, in IMHO, than on the S & M class.   If you are looking for the “advertised and pictured” Retreat experience then go for it on a E Class ship.

We will be on the Solstice, February 4, Mexican Riviera.   Thank you for your responses.  We were leaning toward Aqua Class but wanted to be convinced to upgrade to a suite.  So far, it seems like Aqua Class is a better choice.

There is so much more to Aqua vs Retreat than just the restaurant.  But on an un-revolutionized ship like the Soltice, it does play a bigger role. I personally don’t like the decor of the pre-revolutioned ships nor the retreat spaces. So I stick with Aqua. My husband loves Blu over Luminae so he wins. But on Revolutioized ships, I must have at least a Sky Suite. And it has nothing to do with the designated restaurant.

Excellent Advice!

I’ve never been to Blu but I would be a bit disappointed if we could only order off the Luminae menu for dinner.  (We are on an older ship so we can order MDR as well). There are only 4 main course options per evening.  While I can always find something I like, the MDR offers about a dozen choices each night.  The first night I had MDR prime rib (hungry for steak and Luminae didn’t have that as an option) and it was quite good.  I do like breakfast in Luminae.

I personally wouldn’t choose a cabin category based solely on restaurant.  I’d look at the totality of Retreat vs. Aqua on your ship and decide whether the added suite benefits warrant the additional cost based on what’s important to you.

Also keep in mind if you are in RS or above, all specialty dining is included and Le Grand Bistro for lunch is wonderful.  Now is the extra $$$$ for that experience worth it 🤔

Love suite perks on celebrity, there suite lounge is open all day with free drinks and snacks at different times . The outdoor area on edge class is fantastic with a swimming pool and a small bar . Also priority getting on the ship , concierge walks you off the ship at end of the cruise.

Absolutely no comparison.  With SS, first you get a much larger room.  AQ is a balcony stateroom.  The SS offers you dining at luminae, which IMO so much better then AQ, we were never impressed with Blu food and close seating.  The suite lounge or retreat a wonderful spot on the ship to hang out.  You also get butler service.  IMO we didn't appreciated the spa freebee's with AQ.  In fact used for an hour one sea day- think you can purchase if you like.  If you want a Balcony cabin, dine evenings in speciality restaurants with the savings and you will have better food and service.

I haven't sailed a suite on Solstice so I can't comment on the rooms themselves - I would take a look at the room information spreadsheet linked at the top of this forum to find out more about the specific room you are considering. This goes for AQ as well - many AQ rooms are in undesirable locations (though the rooms themselves are nice).

As other posters have noted, there are more perks to the suite life than just Luminae, but Luminae is the biggest one (IMO). Since you will be on an S-class ship, there are plenty of specialty restaurants to choose from and you can upgrade your dining experience with a specialty package for much less money than you would spend on a suite, so you should definitely weigh the cost of that and the value of the other suite perks against the overall price differential between AQ and a suite.

bigbenboys

This year we sailed twice on Solstice. Sept we were in a sky suite then in Nov we did Aqua with friends. Personally I like the food in Luminae over Blu. Luminae is open for lunch on sea days, Blu is not. I dont see the issue being the food. Depending on your sky suite location on deck 12 you can have noise from the Oceanview Café. Aqua cabin I book center to aft on deck 11. If under the pool area you might get some noise from above.

As to Edge class ships. I was very disappointed with the Edge and the limited menu in Luminae. I just booked a CS for Alaska 2024. Solstice out of Vancouver was $4000 less then Edge out of Seattle. Seems like a no brainer. Edge limited food options in Luminae or Solstice with the option of ordering off the MDR menu.

Jim_Iain

I would agree the food and service are better in Luminae but the menu has far fewer options and we often order from the MDR menu if nothing interest us.

Access to Retreat and Retreat Sun Deck are really the game changer.

We had the same question. Wanted to book our first suite, but couldn’t justify $14k for a SS on a ship that hasn’t been revolutionized. Got an Aqua cabin for half the price so going with that.

Ken the cruiser

Ken the cruiser

If your budget can afford it, I would suggest booking a sky suite to experience for yourself the various perks they offer. For us we used to mostly book sky suites, as we really enjoyed the anytime dining aspect of Luminae. They also have really good chocolate desserts!!

However, since cruising started back up and/or because we’re getting older, the well seasoned and large portions of food served in the Luminae seemed to give us heartburn later on in the evening more often than not. Then we booked a B2B on the Constellation last December, with the first leg being in a S1 sky suite and the second leg in an aft-facing Aqua cabin. With the Aqua cabin, we had a walk-in shower and the less seasoned and smaller portions of food in Blu never gave us heartburn the entire cruise, where Luminae on the first leg did. In both restaurants, we could order off the MDR menu if we did not like the options offered in either Luminae or Blu. For example, my DW would quite often order a chocolate dessert when we were in Blu off the MDR menu because there weren’t any on the Blu dessert menu.

Our sky suite also had a tub/shower combination where you had to step over a 24” tub wall to get into. Not fun.

Since then we have always booked either an aqua cabin, especially now since the price for a sky suite on most cruises is usually running close to $500 pp/day or more, or a SV if we’re booked on an E-class ship. But again this is just our opinion. You should try a sky suite if your budget can afford it just to experience the “suite life” for yourself.

My two cents...

As someone who has been in AQ and the Retreat , Blu is my favorite.

The suite experience is amazing, and definitely the best at sea, but Luminae is for sure the weak link, as someone said above. The food and service, while great, is on par with Blu. In fact, we generally found more food we liked in Blu than Luminae. The food in Luminae was almost a little too gaudy for us; think quail eggs, unfamiliar types of fish, etc. Of course, you can always eat at Blu in a suite, but if you're paying for the suite experience...I'm not sure if that is worth it.

We may be in the minority.  We used to go in Aqua, then a few cruises ago, went in the suites and have not been back to Aqua.  We actually like Luminae, and even on the Apex, have been able to get anything off the MDR.  We just look at the menus earlier in the day, and if there was an appetizer or something we wanted - we just let them know at breakfast that we would like it when we came for dinner later.  They did say that they could not guarantee the "freshness".  But, it was never an issue - we just told them we were OK with that.  The reason for this is unlike the other ships, the Luminae kitchen is not shared with the MDR, so they need to get the food earlier or else run it up there.    They also brought me something from Blu one evening.

AIDAblu Itineraries

Aidablu review, review of aidablu.

The 2010-built AIDAblu cruise ship is the first Sphinx-class AIDA liner, with sisterships AIDAmar , AIDAstella , AIDAsol .

The vessel (IMO number 9398888) is currently Italy- flagged (MMSI 247282500) and registered in Genova .

History - construction and ownership

AIDA Cruises is a Rostock -headquartered subsidiary company owned by Carnival Corporation . AIDA is Europe's largest German cruise line (followed by TUI ) targeting younger and more active travellers. AIDA was founded in 1960 (as "Deutsche Seereederei") and in 2000 was acquired by P&O Princess Cruises, which merged with Carnival Corporation (shipowner) in 2003. AIDA's first World Cruise (AIDAcara) was in 2017-2018 (October-February) with 116-day roundtrip itinerary from Hamburg Germany .

AIDAblu cruise ship

The 2200-passenger ship AIDAblu is a modernly equipped cruise vessel created in the famous shipbuilding yard of Meyer Werft, Germany. The record for a fast crossing of the English channel was set by AIDAblu in 2011 with time, between Le Havre and Southampton , of 6 h and 45 min. AIDAblu pioneered the first cruise ship brewery.

Besides the ship's staff and crew, AIDA cruise passengers are also served by Peper robots - the latest cyborg technology implemented fleetwide in 2016. These humanoid robots greet and guide passengers upon embarkation. They also assist them throughout the cruise by providing information and tips on onboard dining, entertainment, enrichment program (workshops, pre-scheduled events), casino and shopping promotions, shore excursions and tours. Pepper robots are mobile and communicate in 3 languages (English, German, Italian). They can also interpret human emotions by analyzing voice tones and facial expressions.

Aidablu wiki.

AIDAblu is AIDA Kreutzfahrten's 7th liner. Between 2004-2007, vessel's name was used for a former AIDA liner - later renamed Ocean Village 2 ( Pacific Jewel / MS Karnika ). Ship's Godmother was Jette Joop (jewelry designer). The vessel was christened on February 9, 2010, in the Port of Hamburg on the ice-covered Elbe River. The naming ceremony was accompanied by numerous street artists, ice carvers, and there was a traditional fireworks display.

AIDAblu (Sphinx-class vessel) is half a deck bigger than the sister-ships AIDAluna, AIDAdiva and AIDAbella, and was followed by AIDAmar and AIDAsol. AIDAblu holds the record for fastest English Channel crossing by cruise vessel with time, between Le Havre (Paris) and Southampton, of 6 hours and 45 minutes (2011).

AIDA Blu also has one of the largest cruise ship wellness centers - sized 2600 m2. The ship provides a biking station and the supply of bicycles are used by passengers on shore excursions in ports of call. AIDAblu has the first brewery at sea, which permanently produces 3 kinds of draft beer stored in three 1000-L service copper tanks (ZKGs units) in the onboard storage cellar. Recycled seawater is used as brewing water. A special challenge was the requirements for ship-specific fixings, space-saving construction, compliance with the USPH standard (standards of the American public health authority).

There was another cruise ship named "AidaBlu". P&O Australia's Pacific Jewel was formerly known as Crown Princess (Princess Cruises), A-Rosa Blu (A-Rosa Cruises), AIDAblu (from 2004 to 2007, for AIDA Kreutzfahrten) and Ocean Village 2 (for the Carnival's Ocean Village brand).

German is the language that is largely used on board, as the majority of AIDA customers are Germans and German-speaking Europeans (Austrians, Swiss). AIDA customers tend to be quite active, so older Germans usually prefer more traditional lines on the German-speaking market.

Selectum Blu Cruises Back in Service in the Eastern Mediterranean

  • July 12, 2024

Blue Sapphire

Anex Tours’ Selectum Blu Cruises is back in service in the Eastern Mediterranean with the Blue Sapphire.

Formerly operated by Saga Cruises, the 1981-built vessel resumed service ahead of the summer season and is now offering short cruises to the Greek Isles and Turkey.

Sailing from the Turkish port of Cesme, the three- and four-night itineraries feature visits to different ports of call, such as Rhodes, Kos, Leros and Samos.

Extending through late October, the program also features themed cruises with concerts by local singers and bands, including Umit Sayin, Nihan Akin and Reyhan Karaca.

Three sailings between July and September will focus on wellness, with workshops, yoga lessons, sound therapy and more.

After canceling most of its 2023 sailings and essentially ceasing its cruise operations , Selectum Blu revealed plans to resume revenue operations earlier this year.

Before welcoming guests back, the Blue Sapphire underwent a drydock and update at a shipyard at ICSDAS in Turkey.

Originally built for Hapag-Lloyd Cruises in the early 1980s, the Blue Sapphire is currently one of the oldest cruise ships in service.

Before joining Selectum Blu, the 750-guest vessel sailed for various operators, including Star Cruises, Pullmantur, Croisières de France and Saga Cruises.

According to Selectum Blu, the Blue Sapphire underwent a complete refit soon after being acquired by the company in 2022.

At the time, the 37,000-ton ship was refreshed to offer a series of features that include two restaurants, a swimming pool, a show lounge and a spa.

Part of Anex Tour, one of the largest tour operators in Turkey, Selectum Blu Cruises was launched in 2021.

Sourcing guests from countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, including Turkey, Kazakhstan and Russia, the company offered two summer programs before scrapping its entire upcoming schedule in 2023 and entering a year-long layup.
