BLINDSIDE Announce U.S. Headlining Tour

Sweden's BLINDSIDE have just announced their upcoming U.S. headlining tour dates. The band will hit the road June 22 in support of their new album, "The Great Depression" (produced by Lasse "Lars" Marten ),out in August.

BLINDSIDE 's first two albums, their self-titled debut and "A Thought Crushed My Mind" , were re-issued May 10 and have been digitally remastered. Both contain four additional bonus tracks and special new artwork designed by lead singer Christian Lindskog .

"Blindside" (1997),features original demos of "Superman" , "Liberty" , "Forgiven" and "Stolen" , previously only available as a limited edition released only in Stockholm in 1996. "A Thought Crushed My Mind" , originally released in 2000, includes two songs only available on 7" vinyl, "Knocking On Another Door" and "All You Need Is" , as well as the never-before-released tracks "Desert Flower" and "Sunrise" .

"Ten Years Running Blind" , the band's premier DVD, will be available June 21. It features over two-and-a-half hours of footage and chronicles the band's 10-year run. Also included is a 40-minute documentary with exclusive band interviews, five live performance videos, six music videos and extensive behind-the-scenes footage.

BLINDSIDE formed in Stockholm, Sweden in 1994 and have done extensive headline tours of both Europe and the U.S. with such acts as LINKIN PARK , HOOBASTANK and P.O.D. They have sold over 250,000 units in the U.S., with their latest release, 2004's "About A Burning Fire" , debuted in the Top 40 on The Billboard 200 chart.

Review | Blindside Blues Band – XVI

Guitarist/singer/composer/producer Mike Onesko has kept Blindside Blues Band alive for three decades now. Starting out on Mike Varney’s Blues Bureau label in 1993 with the album ‘Blindside Blues Band’ it has been a steady journey for Onesko who also released three records under the banner of Mike Onesko’s Guitar Army plus some solo-material. As the album title suggests Blindside Blues Band has built up an impressive CV.

A SIMPLE FORMULA

On ‘XVI’ Mike Onesko uses a simple formula that has been his trademark for so many years now. People might find it predictable perhaps but if you are a fan of guitar dominated blues rock there is simply no ignoring this artist and his band . Making use of the services of drummer Holden Szalek and bass player Eric Kennedy (both have been part of the band for a while now) Mike Onesko lays down the law on this eleven-track album.

As per usual he has involved a few other guitar slingers extraordinaire like Blindstone mastermind Martin Jespen Andersen (who will also be involved in an upcoming short Polish tour of the band), Jay Jesse Johnson and even Scotty Johnson (who was an original member of the group back in the day and has since then been on and off involved) has a guest spot on opening track ,,Shine On Through’’ . Further guests are the guitarists Addie Lee and Billy Morris , bassist Todd Chaisson and on vocals we find Mike’s daughter Angelica Onesko who worked with the group before.

GUITAR MASTURBATION GALORE

Make no bones about it. If you like some bluesy based guitar masturbation galore I think ‘XVI’ is your album this month. With the exception of the acoustic based instrumental ,,Message Of The Ring’’ (which in a certain way reminds me vaguely of UFO’s ,,High Flyer’’) Onesko and his crew and guests don’t mind a juicy riff or two let alone the avalanche of solos that just dominate this record. Onesko basically does not let up. Sometimes the tempo slows down a bit like on the epic track ,,The Long Road’’ , but that gives ‘XVI’ some extra variation.

Mike’s vocals are fitting with the material. He knows himself that he is no Glenn Hughes but he does bring it across nicely and quite fitting. My listening tips are: ,,The Long Road’’ , ,,Broken Man’’ , ,,Stand Up’’ , ,,Love Blind’’ (a hurricane ride on the guitars) and ,,Better Days’’ . For albums like ‘XVI’ you can wake me at night as this is just my cup of tea. It is simple, it is from the heart and it f..king rocks like hell!

Blindside is a fantastic band hailing from Sweden, and their live shows are energetic and powerful. With songs like "Pitiful," a rock anthem full of emotion that could bring some of the best songwriters to question their own works, the singer flails around the stage even when there's not much room around to do that.

If he needs more space, he dives into the crowd as the whole place is shouting along to every word he sings. The lyrics are more than worthy to be shouted along to, with lines like “There is no peace outside if there is nothing within," from the song "About A Burning Fire." Despite playing small shows, like at London's Barfly, the venue is packed to capacity and maybe the band's management should consider booking larger venues!

The humble group sets up their set on their own with no help from roadies, and the fans in the crowd shout over to them as they get their gear together, signing some items and taking photos with their fans as they work and get ready to show them how Swedes rock a stage -- very few other groups can perform as well as Blindside does on stage and I cannot wait for their next tour.

Blindside put on a great, high-energy show! They performed one of their older albums, so everyone sang along. Great vibe, and the performance was very true to the original recording.
