This Barbie Is Now on Strike
The actors’ strike effectively ended the “Barbie” film’s press tour. But Margot Robbie’s pink-carpet outfits are worth remembering.
By The Styles Desk
The actors’ strike has hit the brakes on the hot pink convertible that is the “Barbie” film’s press tour.
Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling and other stars of Greta Gerwig’s forthcoming movie inspired by the doll are unlikely to appear on pink carpets until further notice in solidarity with SAG-AFTRA, the actors’ union . That means the parade of neon fashion led by Ms. Robbie has probably come to an end.
Ms. Robbie, who was styled by Andrew Mukamal, had her pick of designers throughout the press tour, from vintage Versace to Vivienne Westwood . But several of the actress’s best looks took inspiration from Barbie’s clothing archive, including a black-and-white-striped swimsuit the doll wore when it was introduced in 1959, a prim skirt suit from the ’80s and a swirly minidress Barbie wore in the ’90s.
Those outfits, seen here alongside the Barbie clothes that inspired them, struck the exact right balance between kitschy and chic. “It’s not subtle,” Ms. Robbie said in an interview with People, “but it’s very fun!”
Enchanted Evening
At the “Barbie” premiere in London, Ms. Robbie wore a Vivienne Westwood gown accented by a white tulle stole and a three-strand pearl necklace. The look recreated the glamorous get-up of the “Enchanted Evening” Barbie introduced in 1960.
Day to Night
The “Day to Night” Barbie doll, released in 1985, was ready for work and play. Its transitional wardrobe inspired what Ms. Robbie wore at the Seoul premiere: a Versace pencil skirt and blazer, which morphed into a sequined pink bodice and tulle skirt.
Original Barbie
In Sydney, Ms. Robbie wore a Hervé Léger bandage dress that paid tribute to the black-and-white one-piece swimsuit worn by the original Barbie. The actress, like the doll, completed her look with white sunglasses and black open-toe shoes.
Solo in the Spotlight
The strapless, sequined mermaid gown Ms. Robbie wore to the film’s Los Angeles premiere was a custom Schiaparelli recreation of the dress for the “Solo in the Spotlight” Barbie, a doll released in 1960.
Totally Hair
In an abstract Pucci minidress, hot pink Manolo Blahnik heels and long, crimped blond locks, Ms. Robbie channeled the style of “Totally Hair” Barbie, introduced in 1992, at a photo call in Mexico City.
Earring Magic
Balmain made the pink leather minidress Ms. Robbie wore to the film’s Mexico City premiere. The look took inspiration from “Earring Magic” Barbie, released in 1992, down to its low-slung belt and chunky earrings.
Pink & Fabulous
At a press appearance in Los Angeles, Ms. Robbie wore a custom Valentino halter dress that referenced the “Pink & Fabulous” Barbie, a doll introduced in 2015.
Sparkling Pink
The bedazzled three-piece Moschino set that Ms. Robbie wore in Seoul was an updated version of the skirt suit worn by the “Sparkling Pink” Barbie, released in 1964.
‘Barbie’: The Movie
Of all Ms. Robbie’s Barbie-inspired outfits, the most meta might have been the pink-and-white gingham set she wore at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. The look referenced a dress Ms. Robbie wears in the “Barbie” trailer and the frock made for a new Barbie doll based on Ms. Robbie’s likeness.

Every Specific Barbie Reference In Margot Robbie’s Wardrobe
By Emma Spedding
Margot Robbie and the rest of the Barbie cast have embarked on an extensive promotional tour to get us all in the Mattel mood. The actor and her stylist are taking thematic dressing to a whole new level with the styling choices for this tour, with Margot cosplaying as a real-life Barbie doll in slip-on mules, miniskirts, and lots and lots of pink.
Stylist Andrew Mukamal is taking inspiration from original Barbie dolls from the ’50s, dressing the actor in looks that reference specific versions. From vintage Chanel tweed to custom Bottega Veneta pink co-ords, he has worked with major fashion houses to create Margot’s Barbie-inspired dream wardrobe. The press tour has kicked off in Sydney, and there are already some key themes emerging. The hemlines are thigh-grazing, silhouettes are form-fitting, and Margot has become closely acquainted with white slip-on heels.
“ Barbie really is interlinked with fashion, because how you play with her is by dressing her,” costume designer for the film, Jacqueline Durran , previously told British Vogue . “Clothes are her form of expression.”
Below, a rolling list of every specific Barbie reference in Margot Robbie’s red-carpet wardrobe so far.
Margot channelled “solo in the spotlight” Barbie from 1960 for the LA premiere, wearing a black sequin strapless gown with a tulle hem by Schiaparelli with black Manolo Blahnik mules.
Margot Robbie dressed as “Totally Hair” Barbie from 1992, with crimped long hair, an Emilio Pucci printed minidress, bright pink court shoes and fluorescent pink Chanel logo earrings.
In Mexico City, Margot channelled a doll from 1992 wearing a pink minidress, chain belt and oversized silver earrings.
At a press conference in Seoul, Margot referenced the “sparkling pink” doll from 1964 in a pink skirt suit adorned with crystal studs by Moschino, with a heart-shaped quilted bag, pillbox hat with a bow and bright pink Manolo Blahniks.
Margot dressed as the “day to night” doll from 1985, wearing a pink power suit which is a custom look by Versace, with a sparkling phone, a white fedora and Manolo Blahnik pumps.
The 1985 “day to night” doll had a sparkly pink outfit change for evening, and Robbie and her stylist Andrew Mukamal referenced the original dress, working with Versace to create a crystal bodysuit and bright pink frothy skirt.
At a Barbie event in Sydney, Robbie wore a pink sequin minidress with a corset bodice, which was a vintage Versace look from the autumn/winter 1994 collection, paired with Manolo Blahnik heels.
Margot had another vintage moment in autumn/ winter 1994 Versace , wearing a metallic mini skirt and pink cable knit jumper that Kate Moss originally wore on the runway.

See Every Barbie-Inspired Look From Margot Robbie’s Press Tour
T he marketing rollout for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie has been impressive, ubiquitous, and extremely pink, spanning countless brand collaborations and in-person activations, like the life-size pink Barbie Dream House in Malibu , now listed on Airbnb. But some of the most compelling marketing for the film comes straight from its star, Margot Robbie.
As Robbie, who plays the world-famous doll in the film, has promoted Barbie ahead of its July 21 release, fans have delighted in her impeccable red carpet recreations of Barbie’s most glamorous looks from over the years. Working with stylist Andrew Mukamal, Robbie has sported high fashion versions of iconic outfits worn by Barbie in different eras, from the legendary black and white striped swimsuit worn by the first Barbie in 1959 to the hot pink day-to-night working woman ensemble that a career-minded doll wore in 1985. According to Robbie, the recreations are tributes to Barbie fans.

“We’re finding Barbie references from decades past and just doing it really for the big Barbie fans out there, people who are actually collecting those Barbies,” Robbie told People at the film’s premiere in Los Angeles, where she wore a custom Schiaparelli recreation of the black cocktail dress worn by the 1960 “Solo in the Spotlight” Barbie. “We’re hoping to get them excited… We’re pairing Barbie references with great designers.”
Robbie has likely sported her last Barbie-themed look ahead of the movie’s release date because of the SAG-AFTRA strike , which officially launched on July 13. The strike unites members of the actors’ and writers’ unions on the picket line for the first time in more than 60 years, and prevents actors from doing promoting their film and TV projects. Robbie’s July 12 red carpet outfit for Barbie may have been a subtle nod to the historic shutdown. Her pale pink Vivienne Westwood gown was a tribute to the “Enchanted Evening” Barbie—which, blogger Lainey Gossip pointed out, was released in 1960, the same year that actors and writers were last on strike at the same time.

That Robbie’s tour looks became a fashion phenomenon is fitting, given that Barbie creator Ruth Handler always intended for fashion to be a major part of the doll’s appeal. Fed up with the lack of toy options for girls, who typically could choose between baby dolls or paper dolls to play with, Handler created one through which they could embody their future dreams—in part by dressing her in different outfits.
See all of Margot Robbie’s best red carpet looks beside the Barbie dolls that inspired them below.
Pink and Fabulous Barbie, 2015
To recreate this flirty pink polka dot outfit, Mukamal turned to the archives of Valentino, taking inspiration from a maroon polka dot halter neck midi dress from the fashion house’s Spring/Summer 1993 collection. For Robbie’s look, Valentino updated the design in a bright pink and white polka dot fabric and shortened the hem to be a mini dress, which Mukamal paired with a yellow Valentino Rockstud purse, white Manolo Blahnik pumps, and a set of Assael pearl earrings and matching bracelet.

The Original Barbie, 1959
For this iconic look, Mukamal pulled a black and white strapless bandage dress from Hervé Legér to pay homage to Barbie’s black and white striped one-piece swimsuit, then accessorized it with a pair of white Jacques Marie Mage cat eye sunglasses with blue lenses, Spinelli Kilcollin hoop earrings, and a pair of black Manolo Blahnik peep toe heeled mules.
Day to Night Barbie, 1985
For the Barbie premiere in South Korea, Mukamal re-created not one but two looks for the red carpet to pay tribute to the versatile style of Barbie as a working woman. For the first “day” look, he dressed Robbie in an Atelier Versace fuchsia skirt suit with white accents, which he accessorized with an ascot tie, boater hat, matching Manolo Blahnik spectator pumps, and a jeweled Judith Leiber purse shaped like a cell phone from the time. For the second “night” look, Robbie wore a party dress in the same shade of fuchsia with a full tulle skirt and matching peep toe heeled mules from Manolo Blahnik.

Sparkling Pink Barbie, 1964
The inspiration for this outfit comes from a 1964 Barbie who wore a sparkling pink sheath dress with a matching jacket and pillbox hat. To recreate it, Mukamal dressed Robbie in an embellished dress and jacket set from Moschino, which he paired with a bow-festooned pillbox hat, matching Manolo Blahnik peep toe heeled mules, and a matching quilted heart purse.

Earring Magic Barbie, 1992
To recreate the look of the “Earring Magic” Barbie doll that debuted in 1992, Mukamal enlisted Balmain to create a hot pink mini dress with sheer sleeves and a leather bustier dress, which was paired with large star earrings and a matching star chain belt.
Totally Hair Barbie, 1992
While the most outstanding feature of the 1992 “Totally Hair” Barbie doll may have been her ankle-length tresses, her swirl print mini dress gave it some serious competition. To recreate this look, Mukamal dressed Robbie in a Pucci mini dress and paired it with a pink Chanel purse, hot pink Manolo Blahnik pumps, and Taffin earrings.
Solo in the Spotlight Barbie, 1960
For the Barbie premiere in L.A., Mukamal drew inspiration from one of the most iconic Barbie looks of all time—the “Solo in the Spotlight” Barbie, who sports a sparkling black strapless sheath dress with a voluminous hem. To bring this look to life, he tapped Schiaparelli to recreate the dress, down to the red rose detail on the hem. Like the Barbie, Robbie accessorized with black opera gloves, black Manolo Blahnik peep toe heeled mules, a Lorraine Schwartz diamond necklace and earrings, and a pink handkerchief.

Enchanted Evening Barbie, 1960
To recreate the ultra-femme formal outfit worn by 1960’s “Enchanted Evening” Barbie, Mukamal pulled a corseted pink Vivienne Westwood gown with a train and rosette detail at the waist. Robbie’s hair was also styled in an updo reminiscent of the doll’s high ponytail. He paired the look with a fur stole, an Assael cultured pearl choker, and embellished Christian Louboutin pumps.

In the 2023 live-action Barbie movie, Margot Robbie plays a Barbie doll brought to life, so it’s only natural that she’s been dressing in some of the doll’s most classic and famous looks during the movie’s press tour. Robbie leads the all-star cast of the Barbie movie , which also features Ryan Gosling, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Kate McKinnon, and more as different versions of the Mattel dolls. The Barbie press tour began in early July and saw Robbie and the cast travel across the world to promote the blockbuster. It has also provided the opportunity for Robbie to show just why she is the perfect live-action Barbie. The Barbie movie will hit theaters on July 21, the same day as Christopher Nolan’s epic Oppenheimer, which has only added hype to Greta Gerwig’s take on Barbie. Warner Bros. has spared no expenses for the Barbie movie, which boasts a reported $100 million budget. In promotion for the film, there has even been a real version of Barbie and Ken’s Malibu DreamHouse available on Airbnb, a custom Xbox collection, and numerous other major brand partnerships. Yet, no Barbie promotion has seemed to match Robbie’s different Barbie-inspired looks on red carpets and at other promotional events. Related: Barbie Vs. Day-To-Night Barbie (Seoul premiere)
Gerwig, Robbie, and the Barbie cast traveled to South Korea to kick off the film’s press run where the star did not disappoint with her Day-to-Night Barbie looks. Styled by Andrew Mukamal, Robbie started the night in a sparkling pink custom Versace dress inspired by the Day-to-Night Barbie doll, which was originally released in 1985. Just like the doll, Robbie then changed into a hot pink blazer with a white and pink fedora and a glittering pink chunky phone fitting for the time period.
The Day-To-Night Barbie doll was released to celebrate the increase of women in the workforce in the 80s that was brought on by the second wave of feminism of the decades before. Like the dolls, the Barbie movie's feminist approach has emphasized Barbie’s many different job titles through its doctor, president, lawyer, writer, physicist Barbies, and more. Thus, it was only fitting for Robbie to celebrate this transformable doll with her eye-catching outfits at the Seoul Barbie premiere.
1959 Original Barbie (Australia)
The first teaser for the Barbie movie was released in December 2022 and featured Robbie as Barbie in her first-ever outfit with narration by Helen Mirren, signaling her arrival while raising fanfare for the upcoming film as well as comparisons to 2001: A Space Odyssey . In 1956, Ruth Handler, whose husband was a co-founder of Mattel, realized that her daughter Barbara and other young girls were more attracted to adult-like dolls than the baby dolls that were popular at the time. Three years later, on March 9, 1959, Barbie made her debut at the American Internation Toy Fair wearing a zebra-striped one-piece swimsuit with detachable sunglasses.
When Robbie visited her homeland of Australia to promote the Barbie movie, she paid tribute to the original 1959 doll by wearing a Herve Leger zebra-striped minidress with similar glasses to the doll’s. Robbie further committed to the look with a pair of black peep-toe Manolo Blahnik heels, referencing Barbie’s own non-removable heels that would become part of her signature style. Though the doll has inspired numerous animated adaptations, Barbie will be the first live-action addition to the canon, and Robbie’s dedication to paying homage to Barbie makes her a fitting lead.

Pink & Fabulous Barbie (Los Angeles)
For a Barbie press event in Los Angeles, Robbie was inspired by a more modern Barbie from the 2013 Pink & Fabulous collection. This Barbie may not be as recognizable or well-known as the others, but Robbie was able to put her own spin on the pink polka dot dress paired with a yellow purse. Robbie’s halter-neck midi dress was taken from Valention’s Spring/Summer 1993 collection, but in Barbie fashion, was updated from maroon to pink and shortened into a mini dress. Pink & Fabulous Barbie’s style was perfect for Robbie as she promoted the movie of the summer.
Sparkling Pink Barbie (Seoul)
While at a Barbie press conference in Seoul, Robbie pulled off yet another Barbie-inspired outfit, this one based on the 1964 Sparkling Pink gift set. Just as they’d done with the Pink & Fabulous Barbie, Robbie and stylist Mukamal put a twist on the original doll’s look to make it more fitting for the film’s press tour while keeping its essence. Rather than wearing a sheath dress, Robbie wore a custom pink Moschino dress and jacket set that she styled with a pillbox hat reminiscent of the 1960s with a quilted heart purse. In Seoul, Robbie was Sparkling Pink Barbie meets modern Jackie Kennedy.
Earring Magic Barbie (Mexico City Premiere)
In 1993, Mattel launched the Earring Magic Barbie line which included an Earring Magic Ken that has even eclipsed Barbie in some respects. The doll came with clip-on earrings for Ken along with a large necklace and a mesh shirt underneath a vest a style that cemented him as a gay icon. Robbie brought back Earring Magic Barbie in a more subdued way with silver star and heart earrings and a matching star chain belt atop a hot pink leather Balmain mini dress with sheer sleeves. While Gosling didn’t match her energy by channeling Earring Magic Ken on the red carpet, it just made Robbie pop even more.

Totally Hair Barbie (Mexico City)
Mexico City became the place for Robbie to show off 90s-inspired Barbie looks as she took on Totally Hair Barbie at a photo call the day after the premiere. The 1992 Totally Hair Barbie is the highest-selling Barbie doll in history and was even rereleased for its 25th anniversary. At the time, it was the longest-haired Barbie, and while Robbie’s crimped hair didn’t reach her toes during the Barbie press tour, she still did Totally Hair Barbie justice. Her swirl print Pucci minidress took some liberties with the original doll’s dress, as did her pink Taffin earrings to continue Robbie’s Barbie-inspired streak.
Solo In The Spotlight Barbie (World Premiere)
Having stunned audiences with her many Barbie-inspired looks, many speculated and anticipated which doll Robbie would be bringing to life at the Barbie world premiere. Robbie subverted pink expectations through an all-black dress, channeling the iconic 1960 Solo in the Spotlight Barbie. Robbie’s sparkling black strapless Schiaparelli sheath dress with its tulle hem paired with black opera gloves and a pink handkerchief made her world premiere outfit perhaps her most accurate doll-inspired look. All that was missing was a classic microphone stand, but it was the elegant culmination of every Robbie Barbie outfit throughout the Barbie press tour.

Barbie x Barbie: All of Margot Robbie’s Mattel-Inspired Red-Carpet Looks
By Chris Murphy
Barbie isn’t just a doll, she’s a muse. Throughout Barbie ’s whirlwind press tour, Margot Robbie has been sporting looks paying homage to the titular doll, walking red—well, often pink —carpets everywhere from Seoul to Mexico City in outfits referencing Barbie dolls of yore , from Day-to-Night Barbie to Earring Magic Barbie and beyond.
The Barbie-inspired looks can be attributed to Robbie’s new stylist, Andrew Mukamal , whom she started working with this year. “We’re finding Barbie references from decades past and just doing it really for the big Barbie fans out there, people who are actually collecting those Barbies. We’re hoping to get them excited,” said Robbie at Barbie ’s world premiere in Los Angeles. “We’re pairing Barbie references with great designers.” To prove it, Robbie wore a black custom Schiaparelli haute couture dress to the LA premiere of Barbie . It was a direct nod to Barbie’s Solo in the Spotlight dress from 1960, down to the black gloves, tulle fringe, and pink handkerchief she was delicately holding.
Other top-of-the-line brands that have turned Barbie doll outfits into major Margot Robbie fashion moments include Hervé Léger, Versace, and Valentino. Take a gander at all the Barbie-inspired outfits Robbie has pulled off ahead of Barbie ’s release on July 21. As Robbie said herself at the LA premiere, “It’s not subtle, but it’s very fun!”
Day-to-Night Barbie
At the Seoul premiere, Robbie paid homage to Barbie by wearing a hot pink blazer, white brimmed hat, and pencil skirt and carrying a rhinestone phone. The Barbie she channeled with her professional look? Day-to-Night Barbie, which debuted in 1985.
Totally Hair 25th Anniversary Barbie
Robbie sported some extremely ’80s crimped hair and a bold pattern in a nod to the Totally Hair 25th Anniversary Barbie while attending the Mexico City Barbie premiere.
Black-and-White Bathing Suit Barbie
Robbie wore this black-and-white Hervé Léger dress, inspired by Barbie’s first-ever outfit, at her native Australia’s Bondi Beach. You can also see Robbie wear the iconic swimsuit in the Barbie teaser trailer .
One day-to-night look is not enough for a woman of Robbie’s talents. That’s why the actor wore a pink sparkly leotard and a part-Versace pink dress, channeling Barbie’s second Day-to-Night look, right down to the tutu skirt.
By Savannah Walsh
Earring Magic Barbie
Sometimes the most important part of the outfit is the accessories. At the Mexico City Barbie premiere, Robbie channeled Earring Magic Barbie, sporting a long-sleeve pink minidress with a silver belt and some fabulously dangly silver earrings.
Pink & Fabulous Barbie
While Barbie is usually wearing something pink and fabulous, she is especially doing so when rocking a polka-dotted pink minidress and yellow purse. Robbie channeled the 2015 Pink & Fabulous Barbie when wearing a similarly pink-and-white polka-dotted Valentino outfit accented by—you guessed it—a yellow purse.
Happy Birthday Barbie
While wearing a metallic pink minidress straight from the 1994 Versace runway, Robbie gave a nod to the similarly metallic outfit worn by the Happy Birthday Barbie, which comes with a gift-wrapped present. She sported the look while she attended a Barbie celebration party in Sydney, Australia.
Sparkling Pink Barbie
At a press conference in Seoul, Robbie paid homage to the skirt-suit-clad Sparkling Pink Barbie from 1964 while wearing a hot pink Moschino skirt suit of her own.
Enchanted Evening Barbie
While attending Barbie 's European Premiere at Leicester Square in London, Robbie wore a vintage Vivienne Westwood draped corset gown, a white tulle stole, and matte ivory opera gloves. The look was inspired by 1960s Enchanted Evening Barbie, whom Robbie matched down to the pear necklace.
Greta Gerwig Barbie
Last but certainly not least, Robbie referenced Gerwig’s Barbie film by wearing a pink gingham Prada outfit. The look was based off of an outfit Robbie wears in Gerwig’s film; it has since been made into an outfit for a Barbie doll by Mattel . Talk about Meta Barbie.

Margot Robbie's Barbie-est Barbie Press Tour Looks
It's a Barbie world. We're just living in it.
Getty Images
Barbie rave reviews are pouring in, and Margot Robbie stays winning. Not only is the star having the time of her life channeling the world-famous doll at the film's press events, but she's nailing Mattel-inspired looks at Barbie screenings around the world. From red carpet premieres to conventions, Robbie's Barbie looks have gone above and beyond. Robbie's 'fits on the Barbie movie press tour don't just adhere to the doll's signature shades of pink. Much like the highly anticipated film itself, Robbie's wardrobe has major layers.
At the European premiere of Barbie on Wednesday, July 12, Robbie was a vision in satin and tulle on the pink carpet at Cineworld Leicester Square in London. First off, the gown. Robbie wore corseted Vivienne Westwood in petal pale pink. This dress had it all: a vintage Barbie look it homaged , a rosette at the waist, and gauzy train. The "Enchanted Evening" look was accented with a fluffy tulle off-the-shoulder shrug, shoulder-length opera gloves, a three-strand Assael Pearls choker and sparkling Christian Louboutin pumps.
In a rare non-pink moment, Robbie stood out at the L.A. premiere of Barbie wearing an extravagant high-fashion replication of Mattel's 1960 "Solo in the Spotlight" Barbie . Wearing a Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown and opera gloves, Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, and Manolo Blahnik peep-toe heels, the Barbie star managed to look entirely the part without so much as an accessory in the iconic doll's signature shade.
On July 3, at a Barbie press conference in Seoul, South Korea, Robbie channeled retro Barbie vibes in a Moschino matching set. Not only did the bright pink look include a heart-shaped, studded purse, pillbox hat, and matching Manolo Blahnik peep-toe pumps, but it was a near-perfect replica of a vintage 'fit worn by Barbie herself .
The good times kept on rolling in Mexico City where Robbie paid homage to the bestselling Barbie of all time: 1992's Totally Hair Barbie . We weren't just in awe of her very '90s patterned Pucci minidress, pink Manolo Blahnik pumps, perfectly-matched Chanel bag, and Taffin jewelry.
Robbie committed to becoming an IRL doll and wore her hair in long, brushed-out curls nearly identical to Totally Hair Barbie's blonde mane. This look served and we ate it up. But we've only scratched the surface.
On Sunday, July 2, Robbie's stylist, Andrew Mukamal (who, frankly, deserves a Pulitzer Prize for all the historical context he's bringing to Robbie's looks) shared an Instagram post featuring a side-by-side comparison of the two designer 'fits Robbie wore to the Barbie premiere in Seoul, South Korea, alongside the vintage Barbie doll looks that inspired them.
Mukamal didn't just ensure that Robbie was dressed to the nines in Atelier Versace, but that her accessories, including a bedazzled first-gen cellphone and Manolo Blahnik heels — a Barbie tour staple — were also on point. Business Barbie would be proud.
On Friday, June 30, Robbie wore a glittering pale pink ensemble at the Barbie Celebration Party at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney, Australia. Her sparkling metallic strapless minidress from Atelier Versace's 1994 Fall/Winter collection stole the show, but her clear Manolo Blahnik pumps were just as on-brand.
Earlier that day, Robbie channeled both '90s supermodels and Barbie in a cropped sweater and metallic pleated skirt from Versace's 1994 Fall/Winter collection. Her white platform loafer heels were deliciously retro, especially when paired with pale fuchsia ankle socks.
Not only are Robbie's press looks meticulously "Mattel-ified," but she is living and breathing Barbie, down to her travel wear. Method acting is impressive, but method-dressing at the airport? Well, that's just next-level.
Splash News
Not only did Robbie wear a vintage Chanel jacket from the fashion house's Spring/Summer '96 collection while toting matching SteamLine luggage at the airport, but she posed in a pink polka dot Valentino cutout dress (with matching Manolo Blahnik pumps, 'natch) alongside a to-scale Barbie dream car along with the rest of the film's cast on Tuesday, June 25 at the official Barbie press junket in L.A.
On Thursday, June 29, Mukamal shared a photo on Instagram of Robbie posed on a balcony in an Hervé Léger bodycon mini dress and Manolo Blahnik peep toe pumps. The stripes and silhouette of the dress likely looks familiar to eagle-eyed Barbie historians, but for the uninitiated, Mukamal captioned the post, "'THE ORIGINAL' 1959." Swipe and you'll see a second pic of the first Barbie doll wearing a strikingly similar ensemble.
Robbie has been channeling everyone's favorite plastic doll since before we were even gifted a full-length Barbie trailer. Back in April, she wore a two-piece Prada matching set to CinemaCon. The vintage vibe came through loud and clear, from the gingham pattern on the bra top and miniskirt to the height and style of her pink heeled mules.
Just when you thought things couldn't get pinker, Robbie served even more Barbie realness. Before leaving CinemaCon, Robbie topped off the look with a pink plaid coat and carried a matching Prada bag. Swoon.
The truth is, Robbie has been serving Barbie as far back as January. At the 80th Annual Golden Globes, Robbie wore a custom Chanel gown that reportedly took over 750 hours to make. The pale pink halter gown, made of silk tulle and chantilly lace, was just the beginning of Robbie's red carpet road to Barbiedom.

From vintage Chanel to custom pink Prada
Robbie is joined by an all-star cast, with Ryan Gosling playing Barbie's love interest Ken, alongside many other famous faces – including Dua Lipa, Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, Issa Rae and our summer digital cover star America Ferrera , to name but a few.
It's not unusual for celebrities to pay tribute to the project that they're promoting when it comes to red-carpet dressing (look to Halle Bailey's ocean-inspired Little Mermaid outfits as a prime example, or Jenna Ortega's goth glam Wednesday looks), so we expected nothing less than a Barbie- worthy press tour wardrobe from Robbie – but nothing could quite prepare us for the joyful ensuing parade of doll-inspired dressing, expertly curated by her stylist, Andrew Mukamal. While Robbie and the rest of the Barbie cast had to take a break from promoting due to the SAG strikes , she's now back in business, wearing more stylish looks fit for a doll. From pink Valentino polka dots to playful gingham Prada ensembles and some seriously desirable vintage Chanel, here is everything Robbie wore to promote the film.
Armani Privé
For the 2024 Golden Globes , stylist Andrew Mukamal dressed Robbie in a custom Armani Privé look inspired by the 'Superstar' Barbie from 1977. Crafted from pink shimmering sequins, the design featured the same V-neckline and tulle ruffled boa. Robbie finished the look with Manolo Blahnik heels and Lorraine Schwartz jewellery.
Margot Robbie perfected yet another Barbie look at the 2023 Gotham Awards; the actress channelled the "Black Magic Ensemble" doll from 1964, wearing a black Prada dress, leather gloves and an elegant sheer cape. Similar to the rest of her Barbie wardrobe , she teamed her outfit with a pair of Manolo Blahnik mules.
Robbie attended a special screening and Q&A in Hollywood wearing Sleeper's feathered pink pyjamas, which she styled with a coordinating woven bag and pink mules.
Bottega Veneta
Andrew Mukamal revealed on Instagram that his inspiration for this look was the 'Cherry Pie Picnic' Barbie from 2015. Robbie's Deadline Contenders outfit featured almost identical turn-up jeans by Bottega Veneta, a red belt and a tie-up floral shirt, along with Manolo Blahnik mules, her favourite woven bag (this time in red) and Anita Ko jewellery.
Margot Robbie put a Barbie spin on a smart-casual look to attend a special screening and Q&A at the Warner Bros studios in LA. The actress wore a bright pink Versace blazer, a corset top and classic blue jeans. She finished the look with pointed Manolo Blahnik pumps (pink, of course) and loose soft waves.
Margot Robbie's stylist Andrew Mukamal took to Instagram to share a glimpse at some of the unseen looks from her Barbie tour wardrobe (worn for interviews or less public press appearances – scroll through the carousel to see more), including a metallic pink Versace dress and a Clueless -worthy yellow Chanel two-piece. Many of the outfits were paired with her bespoke Manolo Blahnik collection, created specifically for this tour.
"Barbie is truly iconic, so when asked to provide shoes for the wonderful Margot Robbie, whom I adore, I wanted to update some of my most successful designs that have been in my collections for decades, with a Barbie twist of course," designer Blahnik told Bazaar . "Pink is one of my absolute favourite colours – from cerise to powder pink, I love them all – and so it has been a joy to reimagine these styles in a host of pink hues."
Vivienne Westwood Couture
For the European Barbie premiere held in London, Margot Robbie paid tribute to the late, great British designer Vivienne Westwood, wearing a couture gown modelled on the 'Enchanted Evening' doll from 1990. The corseted dress featured a draped side train, crafted in blush pink satin and embroidered white tulle, and was accessorised with ivory opera gloves, a pearl choker and a rose brooch.
Vivienne Westwood
Margot Robbie wore a second Vivienne Westwood ensemble while in London, attending the film's photocall in this printed skirt suit, worn with chunky platform heels and a square textured bag. She added Tiffany & Co jewellery to the look for an extra touch of sparkle.
Dilara Findikoglu
On the same evening, Robbie carried on the celebrations in a red corseted mini-dress by the Turkish-British fashion designer Dilara Findikoglu. Her party look was inspired by the 1962 "Brunette Bubble Cut" Barbie, who wore a red swimsuit. The look was accessorised with Assael jewels and a Maison Ernest satin bag.
Schiaparelli Haute Couture
Perhaps Margot Robbie's most glamorous Barbie look of the entire tour was this black custom Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown. For the Los Angeles premiere of the highly-anticipated film, the actress wore a design inspired by the doll's 'Solo in the Spotlight' look from 1960. It featured a glittering strapless dress with a tulle hem and a red rose accent, worn with matching opera gloves and a sheer handkerchief. She finished her red-carpet look with a Lorraine Schwartz diamond choker necklace, a bold red lip and a sleek updo.
Emilio Pucci
Margot Robbie's 'Totally Hair' Barbie look, based on the 1992 doll was just that; the actress wore her hair in impressive super-long waves, with an Emilio Pucci dress, pink Manolo Blahnik heels, a Chanel bag and Taffin jewellery.
The actress wore a neon pink corseted Balmain mini dress with silver statement earrings and a matching chain belt, to attend the Mexico premiere.
A more casual take on the Barbie wardrobe came courtesy of this Bottega Veneta look for a day in transit, complete with baby pink Manolo Blahnik mules and Jessica McCormack diamond earrings.
Vintage Moschino
Margot Robbie kept up her vintage style streak, wearing a Moschino skirt suit from the brand's spring/summer 2015 collection to the film's press conference in Seoul . In true Barbie style, she kept her accessories perfectly matching, with a coordinating heart-shaped bag and pink Manolo Blahnik mules.
For the Barbie premiere in Seoul, Robbie turned to Versace, a favourite brand in her press tour wardrobe. This look – based on another outfit worn by the original Barbie doll – featured a pink and white skirt suit with a matching boater hat, pointed pumps, a mini bag and a glittery pink phone.
The actress wore a second look from Versace at the premiere –a shimmering bodice and tulle skirt – also based on one of the doll's original designs. She wore her hair in the classic Barbie style of loose blonde waves, which fell perfectly over one shoulder.
In-between red carpets, Robbie was seen wearing a vintage patterned Moschino mini-dress, from the brand's spring/summer 2019 catwalk show. In true Barbie style, Robbie relied on the power of accessories with a pair of white Manolo Blahnik heels and matching white-framed sunglasses , which are becoming a regular feature in her tour wardrobe.
Vintage Versace
Another vintage moment for Margot Robbie, this time in Versace. The look – from the archives of the Italian fashion house's autumn/winter 1994 collection – perfectly captures Barbie's aesthetic with a metallic pink pleated skirt and high-neck knit, paired with purple socks, white heels and Jessica McCormack jewellery.
While on stage at a Barbie fan event in Sydney, – joined by co-stars America Ferrera, Issa Rae and director Greta Gerwig – Robbie added a pair of white sunglasses to her vintage Versace look.
Yet another vintage Versace moment for the actress, who stepped out on the pink carpet in a blush chainmail Versace mini-dress, while attending a Barbie party in Sydney. The dress was originally worn by the model Claudia Schiffer in 1994.

All of Margot Robbie’s Most Fashionable Looks from the ‘Barbie’ Press Tour
All of margot robbie's ensembles were inspired by the doll..
The marketing behind Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie has been nearly as flawless as the iconic doll it’s inspired by. There are the in-person experiences, which have included transforming a California mansion into a real-life Barbie Malibu Dream House that fans can book on Airbnb, and Malibu Barbie Café pop-ups in New York City and Chicago. Plus, the unavoidable “Barbiecore” trend on social media, which has generated millions of hashtags across TikTok and Instagram, with fans sharing their best all-pink looks, from minidresses to monochromatic makeup and manicures. And while it seemed to be a given that the film’s star, Margot Robbie , would be wearing plenty of pink for the promo, the dedication to detail behind every look left fans as excited for each stop along the international press tour as they are for the movie, which premieres in theaters on July 21, 2023.

And rightfully so. Robbie and her team, helmed by stylist Andrew Mukamal, have pulled from the Barbie archives to recreate some of the doll’s most famous looks with the help of luxury fashion houses like Moschino, Versace and Schiaparelli. There have been modern takes on classic styles, like an Hervé Léger black-and-white striped bandage dress to mirror the first-ever Barbie’s swimsuit, as well as nearly identical replicas of dolls across the decades (think 1960’s “Solo in the Spotlight” and 1992’s “Earring Magic”). Then there are the beauty looks, which have been expertly created by makeup artist Pati Dubroff and hairstylist Bryce Scarlett, to perfectly complement (and at times, exactly replicate) every Barbie-inspired look.
If you can’t get enough of Robbie’s Barbie world, scroll through every press tour ensemble proof that just like Barbie, Robbie really is everything.

The gingham set that started it all. Robbie gave us a preview of the pink press tour looks to come when she attended CinemaCon in April wearing a matching bralette and mini skirt from Prada. While accessories were kept pretty minimal, they did include Barbie-pink Christian Louboutin open-toe mules, a Chanel anklet and a heart-shaped ring and earrings, both by Jessica McCormack.

Bottega Veneta
Just before the press tour really kicked off in June, Robbie wore another matching pink set—this time by Bottega Veneta—while out in Beverly Hills. The look included a Bottega Mini Cabat bag, open-toe Manolo Blahnik mules and the same Chanel anklet and Jessica McCormack jewelry from CinemaCon.
Robbie channeled Barbie right down to the pink convertible during the Los Angeles photocall for the film. Recreating the “Pink & Fabulous” doll from 2015, the actress wore a custom polka dot Valentino minidress. Reminiscent of a darker style that was worn by supermodel Karen Mulder as part of Valentino’s 1993 spring collection, Robbie’s remake was a shorter cut in a hot pink hue. To match the 2015 doll, the actress’ dress was styled with white Manolo Blahniks, an oversized pearl bracelet and a yellow Valentino Rockstud bag.
Hervé Léger
A few days later, Robbie was pictured at Australia’s Bondi Beach, where she took a style cue from the original Barbie. Released in 1959, the first-ever doll came dressed in a retro black and white swimsuit, and Robbie’s team recreated the look in the most genius way: a striped Hervé Léger bandage dress. The custom creation was paired with accessories that matched the original Barbie from head to toe, with white cat eye sunglasses by Jacques Marie Mage, hoop earrings and black open-toe Manolo Blahniks. The beauty team knocked this one out of the park as well, with a retro wave ponytail, red lip and a red mani-pedi—just like Barbie’s.
For a fan event in Sydney, Robbie’s stylist went to the Versace archives, and pulled out a cropped pink turtleneck sweater and metallic mini skirt from the fashion house’s fall 1994 collection. Styled with purple socks and white heeled Versace loafers (just as model Christy Turlington styled the look in the ’94 ad campaign), Robbie also added a pair of white sunglasses and her Jessica McCormack heart-shaped white gold hoop earrings and matching ring.
Robbie stuck with vintage Versace for a fan event later that same day. Instead of coordinating sets, however, this time she chose a metallic minidress that featured a corset-style bodice and flared skirt, which was originally worn by supermodel Claudia Schiffer in 1994. Given all of that sparkle, Robbie kept the accessories to a minimum, with clear heels and a monochrome pink mani.
Robbie wore not one, but two custom Versace looks as she channeled 1985’s “Day to Night” Barbie for the film’s Seoul premiere . First up was a fuchsia pink suit composed of a pencil skirt and jacket (complete with ‘80s-style shoulder pads) with contrasting white lapel and buttons. The accessories really made the look here, thanks to a pink ascot tie, boater hat, white and pink Manolo Blahnik heels, a matching Versace La Medusa mini bag and a crystal-covered brick phone clutch by Judith Leiber.
For the “night” part of the look, Robbie quickly changed into Barbie’s shimmery pink party dress, which was comprised of a crystal-embellished bodice and fuchsia tulle skirt. She switched out her La Medusa bag for a crystalized version , swapped Manolos for a pair of peep-toe mules and kept her oversized tourmaline ring by Taffin, which resembled a candy Ring Pop.
Given that former Moschino creative director Jeremy Scott designed an entire collection dedicated to Barbie back in 2015, it was only a matter of time until Robbie sported one of the looks on the press tour. Using 1964’s “Sparkling Pink” Barbie as her inspiration, Robbie wore an embellished pink mini skirt and jacket from the collection, paired with a heart-shaped Moschino quilted bag, pink Manolo Blahnik mules and a pillbox hat, to really give it that retro feel.
To channel 1992’s “Earring Magic” Barbie, Robbie’s stylist turned to Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing for a bespoke leather and mesh hot pink minidress. Just like Barbie, Robbie’s look included an oversized star chain belt and matching silver star and heart earrings.
Emilio Pucci
In one of her more colorful looks, the actress replicated “Totally Hair” Barbie (also from 1992) in a printed Emilio Pucci mini. Her spot-on styling included Manolo Blahnik pumps, a quilted Chanel bag, Chanel logo earrings and her tourmaline Taffin ring—all in various shades of pink. The most noteworthy part of the original Barbie doll’s look was, of course, her ankle-length crimped hair, which Robbie’s hair stylist recreated with the help of waist-length extensions.
Schiaparelli
Robbie’s look for the film’s world premiere in Los Angeles was a standout, and not just because it was a departure from all the pink. To bring 1960’s “Solo in the Spotlight” Barbie to life (minus the microphone), stylist Andrew Mukamal enlisted the help of Schiaparelli creative director Daniel Roseberry. The result was a custom haute couture gown embroidered with black sequins, with a tulle skirt that was accented with a hand-painted rose. The look was dressed up with more formal accessories, including black opera gloves, a pink scarf, her go-to Manolo Blahnik mules in black and a four-strand diamond necklace by Lorraine Schwartz that reportedly totaled 350 carats (plus matching diamond stud earrings). Robbie’s beauty look was also classic Barbie, with a red lip and wavy ponytail that was set with Velcro rollers.
Vivienne Westwood
The press tour brought Robbie to London just a few days later, where she returned to pink in another 1960s-inspired Barbie look. For her take on the “Enchanted Evening” doll, the actress wore a custom Vivienne Westwood gown in pale pink, which featured a dramatic side train and a white tulle shawl to mirror Barbie’s fur stole. Rather than another ponytail, Robbie opted for an undone updo with face-framing pieces, and her accessories for the evening included sparkly Louboutin mules, a three-strand pearl necklace by Assael and white opera gloves.
Dilara Findikoglu
Later that evening, the actress changed into a red strapless minidress by Dilara Findikoglu, which appeared to be an ode to the 1962 “Brunette Bubble Cut” Barbie. Coordinating red mules by Maison Ernest and the same Assael pearl earrings from her “Enchanted Evening” doll completed the look.
The following day, Robbie attended the London photocall in head-to-toe Vivienne Westwood. The two-piece set was composed of a pink printed mini skirt and jacket, which included red piping and cuffed sleeves, and was styled with a furry pink handbag and matching platform heels.

24/7 coverage of breaking news and live events
Hi, Hello, Why Wasn’t Margot Robbie at the 2024 Met Gala?
M argot Robbie is officially out of her Barbie era—and continuing her producer era. If you’re wondering why the actor was MIA at this year’s Met Gala, she was actually shooting her next movie, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, in Los Angeles . She’s also focusing on producing more projects under her company, Lucky Chap.
In January, she told Deadline that she would put a pause on acting prior to the project. “Everyone’s like, ‘Are you having a break?’ And I’m like, ‘You do know I’m a producer, right? We don’t get a break,’” she explained, adding, “The producing is 24/7, but on the acting side, this is the longest I haven’t acted on a set, because we finished Barbie in October of 2022. So, it’s already been more than a year since I was on set as an actor, and other than COVID, that’s the first time that’s ever happened.”
She also joked that people might feel fatigued by her presence after the success of Barbie and her massive press tour. “I also think everyone’s probably sick of the sight of me for now. I should probably disappear from screens for a while. Honestly, if I did another movie too soon, people would say, ‘Her again? We just did a whole summer with her. We’re over it.’ I don’t know what I’ll do next, but I hope it’s a little while away,” she added.
ICYMI, Margot works with stylist Andrew Mukamal, who we can all agree is an absolute genius. Just to give an example of how committed these two are to a look, they had a “marathon” fitting session where they tried on every single outfit ahead of Margot’s Barbie press tour—so we’re sad to miss out on another killer look from these two!
“I had a board where every city was mapped out,” Andrew told People . “We knew exactly which looks, which Barbies and which references were archival, and everything was very specific for each destination. That day, I had a huge studio in New York filled with everything Barbie and pink and fluffy and glittery that you could ever imagine. Margot and I marathoned through 50 or 60 outfits, and every 30 minutes, one of the brands would come and [help] tailor the outfit that I had been working on for months already.”
Meanwhile, Margot told People mid-press tour, “We’re finding Barbie references from decades past and just doing it really for the big Barbie fans out there, people who are actually collecting those Barbies. We’re hoping to get them excited. We’re pairing Barbie references with great designers.”
Glad to see their fashion partnership is still going strong!
Going hell for leather: We decode Anya Taylor-Joy's Mad Max press tour looks
See everything the actress has worn on the press tour for furiosa: a mad max saga.
Method dressing - not so exciting when you’re an administrator or accountant. Very exciting when you’re a top-of-the-range A-lister promoting an other-worldly action packed blockbuster. Frankly, it’s our favourite red carpet take, injecting so much anticipation and joy into a press circuit.
Other great 'method dressers' include Emma Stone , who for much of the Poor Things press tour sported outfits that mirrored the spectacular puff-sleeve ensembles Oscar-winning Holly Waddington designed for her character Bella. Zendaya , whose Tenniscore outfits promoting Challengers had us calling our mums to drag those dusty rackets we never used out of the loft. And of course, Margot Robbie whose Barbie wardrobe made all our childhood dreams come true, zero exaggeration.

Now, reaching for the baton is Anya Taylor-Joy whose red carpet appearances we’ve come to anticipate almost as much as her work on the big screen. Set in a dystopian wasteland, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga follows Anya’s titular character (played by Charlize Theron in 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road ) as she is snatched from her home and has to fight her way back. It’s Anya’s debut into the franchise and her role saw her tackle many a car stunt (despite the fact that the actress doesn’t actually have a drivers’ licence) and take on a fair few fight scenes too, alongside co-star Chris Hemsworth .
Anya may have skipped this year's Met Gala , but that doesn’t mean that we haven’t been treated to a high fashion moment or two. Here’s everything the actress has worn on the press tour so far…
A Los Angeles screening
What could be more warrior worthy than badass black leather, courtesy of fresh-off-the-runway Acne Studios? For an LA screening of the movie, Anya teamed her AW24 look with Tiffany & Co jewellery.
A Mexico City photocall
Anya’s appearance for a photocall in Mexico saw her sporting sculptural custom Balmain, as robust as armour but decorated with cascading metal roses for an unexpected feminine touch. Keeping accessories simple, the actress paired the Olivier Rousteing masterpiece with translucent Aquazzura heels.
A Mexico City press conference
For a press conference in Mexico, Anya opted for a (slightly) more practical Robert Wun two-piece from its Spring 23 collection. Crafted from white leather and embellished with studs and industrial hardware, Anya added white heels from Jimmy Choo.
The Sydney premiere
In Sydney, Anya wore arguably her most show-stopping look of the tour so far: one-of-a-kind vintage 1996 Paco Rabanne Couture. Pierced with gilded arrows, and with a hefty headpiece to match, we adored this glorious 3D fashion moment. (Luckily she had a sneaky outfit change to watch the movie in, we wouldn’t fancy her chances sitting down in this…)

A Sydney photocall
Rick Owens is the first designer that comes to our minds when thinking of packing for a quick trip to a desert apocalypse, so we were so pleased to see him selected by Anya for an appearance in Sydney. The draped top in burnt rust with accompanying terracotta leather skirt is from the designer’s SS24 collection.
CinemaCon Las Vegas
Popping by Cinemacon, Anya wore AW24 eyelet-embellished leather by Ludovic De Saint Sernin and Christian Louboutin heels.

Why Margot Robbie Skipped the Met Gala This Year
Robbie did go to the Met Gala last year, wearing a black Chanel dress with a see-through corset for the gala’s “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” theme. She wore her hair down and kept her makeup more muted.
While Robbie has been filming A Big Bold Beautiful Journey this spring , the actress spoke to Deadline in January about her pause from acting prior to the project. “Everyone’s like, ‘Are you having a break?’ And I’m like, ‘You do know I’m a producer, right? We don’t get a break,’” she said with a laugh. Robbie co-founded production company LuckyChap with Ackerley, and Josey McNamara.
“ The producing is 24/7, but on the acting side, this is the longest I haven’t acted on a set, because we finished Barbie in October of 2022,” she added. “So, it’s already been more than a year since I was on set as an actor, and other than COVID, that’s the first time that’s ever happened.”
Robbie also joked that the public may have Barbie fatigue: “I also think everyone’s probably sick of the sight of me for now. I should probably disappear from screens for a while. Honestly, if I did another movie too soon, people would say, ‘Her again? We just did a whole summer with her. We’re over it.’ I don’t know what I’ll do next, but I hope it’s a little while away.”

Hi, Hello, Why Wasn't Margot Robbie at the 2024 Met Gala?
Margot Robbie is officially out of her Barbie era—and continuing her producer era. If you're wondering why the actor was MIA at this year's Met Gala, she was actually shooting her next movie, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, in Los Angeles . She's also focusing on producing more projects under her company, Lucky Chap.

Despite getting previous invites, this group of stars have RSVP'd no to fashion's big night out.
9 Celebs Who Are Banned From the Met Gala
Anna Wintour has even admitted to banning one specific person....
ICYMI, Margot works with stylist Andrew Mukamal, who we can all agree is an absolute genius. Just to give an example of how committed these two are to a look, they had a "marathon" fitting session where they tried on every single outfit ahead of Margot's Barbie press tour—so, we're sad to miss out on another killer look from these two!
"I had a board where every city was mapped out," Andrew told People . "We knew exactly which looks, which Barbies and which references were archival, and everything was very specific for each destination. That day, I had a huge studio in New York filled with everything Barbie and pink and fluffy and glittery that you could ever imagine. Margot and I marathoned through 50 or 60 outfits, and every 30 minutes, one of the brands would come and [help] tailor the outfit that I had been working on for months already."
Meanwhile, Margot told People mid-press tour that “We're finding Barbie references from decades past and just doing it really for the big Barbie fans out there, people who are actually collecting those Barbies. We're hoping to get them excited. We're pairing Barbie references with great designers.”
Glad to see their fashion partnership is still going strong!

Celebrities Opt for Barely Any Clothes at the 2024 Vanity Fair Oscars Party
From Kendall Jenner to Florence Pugh, celebrities are all-in on the naked dressing agenda.
Sure, the Super Bowl of red carpet fashion— the Oscars —presented some unforgettable moments , from a resurgent mermaidcore trend to a final Barbie gown requiring 400 hours to create. But just as fashion lovers thought the ceremony's biggest stars brought their best looks forward, a second event pushed the style agenda even further. As the big occasion winded down, A-listers trickled over to the Vanity Fair after party to celebrate in style. The hottest trend of the night? Nearly-naked dressing, in gowns that barely counted as clothes.
While John Cena might've taken the "nude" agenda quite literally on the Oscars stage, the Vanity Fair after party featured a more refreshed spin on the skin-revealing look. See stars like Quinta Brunson, Chrissy Teigen, and Pamela Anderson, for example, who incorporated floral appliqués into the barely-there mix .
Some of the party's attendees embraced the revealing aesthetic via couture undergarments. Margot Robbie swapped out of her LBD for a vintage gold crystal-studded Mugler corset, wearing it as a mini dress and baring her legs. Zoe Lister-Jones followed suit in a corseted Wiederhoeft number, opting for nude-colored tights and matching opera gloves.
Most of the guests went sheer, sticking with see-through tulle as the base. Vanessa Hudgens debuted her baby bump in an exposing cape-style dress layered with matching black underwear, while Kendall Jenner pulled an intricate lace black gown straight from the Maison Margiela 2024 couture collection.
If there's anything to gather from the post-Oscars festivities, it's that the much-adored style stars are all in for polarizing silhouettes—and the nearly-naked look is here to stay. Here are all the best barely-there ensembles from the 2024 Vanity Fair Oscars Party ahead.

Kristen stewart says margot robbie films not enough to topple patriarchy, kristen stewart margot robbie alone can't beat patriarchy ... need broader perspective.
Kristen Stewart says "Barbie" alone can't undo ancient systems of oppression ... arguing Hollywood's allowing only a few female creators to make an impact.
The actor-turned-director appears on the cover of this month's Porter magazine ... and, she came out firing in the cover story -- calling H'Wood phony and blasting the industry for elevating a few female stars in the studio system.
Stewart says there's a process of checking off boxes, as if when studios fulfill a few requirements, the patriarchy will be thoroughly done away with in the industry. Here, KS name-drops Robbie and Maggie Gyllenhaal -- claiming studios like to make one of their films to pat themselves on the back and call it a great day for diversity.
Kristen clarifies here ... adding she loves both Margot and Maggie, and some of Hollywood's other chosen few -- she's really going after the studios for not concerning themselves with even broader perspectives.
Of course, Kristen's finally getting her own chance to helm a film -- though it's not exactly a huge summer blockbuster like "Barbie." She's making her directorial debut on a project called "The Chronology of Water" based on the harrowing autobiography of the same name.
In the interview with Porter, Kristen says she's flying to Latvia to film the flick because she needs to get away from Hollywood ... so, sounds like she's completely out on industry oversight.
It's been a big year for Stewart in the independent space ... remember, she starred in A24's violent, queer love story film "Love Lies Bleeding" which came out in March -- so, she's certainly broadening her perspective on the small scale.
When it comes to the big-budget flicks though ... sounds like Kristen's convinced she's not on the shortlist.
