Bad World Tour

This article is about the tour. You may have been looking for the album .

The Bad World Tour is the first worldwide concert tour by Michael Jackson . It was launched in support of the artist's seventh studio album, Bad (1987) and lasted sixteen months, spanning from September 12, 1987 until January 27, 1989. The shows were sponsored by Pepsi .

The tour became the second highest grossing tour of the decade, as well as one of the most attended tours in history. As announced by Jackson himself during the last show of the tour, these were initially meant to be his last performances in history. However, the Bad World Tour was eventually followed by the Dangerous World Tour and HIStory World Tour .

Background [ ]

For the longest time, while already releasing hit solo albums, Michael still toured with the Jacksons . At a December 1984 show of the Victory Tour , Jackson announced his departure from the group, stating it was the final show he was gonna play with them.

On June 29, 1987, Michael's manager, Frank DiLeo announced the singer was going to embark on his first solo concert tour. The shows would be sponsored by Pepsi, a company which previously got Jackson in hospital after a tragic pyrotechnics accident a few years prior.

The tour was originally going to finish in Tokyo, but Jackson suffered from swollen vocal cords after the first of six concerts in Los Angeles in November 1988. The remaining five shows were then rescheduled for January 1989. However, due to this decision, Greg Phillinganes had to leave the band in early January, as his schedule was busy as he was set to tour with Eric Clapton. Instead, John Barnes would be hired to take Phillinganes' place. With the tour ending, Michael sought medical care for vocal-chord nodules.

  • On this tour, Jackson performed " Thriller " live for the first time.
  • During the concert in Brisbane on November 28, 1987, Stevie Wonder made a guest appearance during the song " Bad ."
  • The set list would be changed around for shows in the European second leg, performing " Human Nature " & " Smooth Criminal " after " Rock with You ".
  • " The Way You Make Me Feel " was sometimes taken out of the set list for time constraints or other unknown reasons, so " Man in the Mirror " was performed in the " Bad " jacket, instead of classic "The Way You Make Me Feel" blue shirt. During other shows, both "Man in the Mirror" and "The Way You Make Me Feel" were removed, leaving Jackson ending the show with "Bad", as he'd done in the first leg.
  • During the last 1989 Los Angeles show Michael wore a white shirt for "The Way You Make Me Feel" instead of a blue one.
  • Jackson would only wear the black shirt for the first show and only time wear he would wear it. He would not wear it again due to the costume & lighting obscuring his dancing.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds have announced their 2025 North American tour, marking their first set of performances in the region since 2018.

The Wild God Tour will begin on April 15 at Agganis Arena in Boston, Massachusetts, and will travel to major cities such as Brooklyn, Chicago, Toronto, and San Francisco.

The tour supports the band’s latest album, Wild God , which debuted at No. 5 on the Official U.K. Albums Chart and No. 2 on the ARIA Albums Chart .

Produced by Nick Cave and longtime collaborator Warren Ellis , Wild God features contributions from Luis Almau and Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood , who has also stepped in as the band’s touring bassist for their U.K. and European shows due to Martyn Casey stepping back for health reasons.

Discussing the band’s latest offering, Cave shared, “I hope the album has the effect on listeners that it’s had on me. It bursts out of the speaker, and I get swept up with it. It’s a complicated record, but it’s also deeply and joyously infectious.”

“There is never a master plan when we make a record. The records rather reflect back the emotional state of the writers and musicians who played them. Listening to this, I don’t know, it seems we’re happy.”

Joining the tour as a special guest for select dates in Boston and Brooklyn will be St. Vincent. Her most recent album, All Born Screaming , debuted at 86 on the Billboard 200 , continuing her streak of successful releases. Her 2021 album, Daddy’s Home , peaked at No. 16 on the Billboard 200.

Pre-sale tickets for Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ 2025 North American tour will be available starting Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m. local time, with general ticket sales opening on Friday, Sept. 13.

The National Music Publishers Association revealed that the Toronto singer secured 16 RIAA certifications between April and June of this year — including Rihanna's diamond-certified "Work" — earning him the title of top artist-songwriter for the second quarter of 2024.

Hard work pays off: PartyNextDoor, R&B singer and songwriter behind massive hits like Rihanna's "Work," is the top artist-songwriter for Q2 of 2024.

The National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) revealed that from April to June of this year, the Toronto artist earned 16 RIAA certifications , putting him in the top spot in the U.S.

RIAA certifications recognize gold (500K sales units), platinum (1 million units) and diamond (10 million units) singles and albums. Party's impressive 16 certifications include diamond certification for "Work," 5x platinum for his 2016 Drake-assisted "Come and See Me" and 4x platinum for his breakthrough single, "Break From Toronto."

"It is an honour to have my music and writing be recognized for their contributions,” Party says of the NMPA recognition in a statement.

Published by Warner Chappell, Party has written for massive stars like Post Malone and Usher, while developing his own career as a performing artist. In his Billboard cover story this spring , he spoke about how he approaches balancing his solo releases with his writing work, as well as his relationship with Drake and his label OVO Sound.

The achievement bolsters a big year for Party, who released his long-awaited PARTYNEXTDOOR4 in April and performed a homecoming show at Toronto's Budweiser Stage that included a headline-grabbing surprise set by Drake in August.

Mustard was named the top non-performing songwriter by the NMPA, garnering four certifications — including a diamond certification for another Rihanna single, "Needed Me."

Those two certifications for Rihanna helped make her the female artist with the most diamond singles in recording history this spring.

Between April and June, 1,276 Gold, Platinum and Multi-Platinum certifications were awarded.
