Cole Swindell Will ‘Win the Night’ With a New Tour in 2024

As he heads toward a new album cycle, Cole Swindell is putting a tour on the books for spring 2024.

On Monday morning (Dec. 4), the singer announced his headlining Win the Night Tour, which will kick off in mid-May with a small handful of Canadian dates before bouncing around the U.S. all summer long.

Dylan Scott will open all shows, and a talented roster of country newcomers will split dates on an additional slot: Jon Langston , Lily Rose , Mackenzie Carpenter , Meghan Patrick and Restless Road are all booked.

The name of the tour doesn't come from a song or an album — at least, not one that's been announced yet — but Swindell explains in a statement that it's a personal mantra that he and his road team repeat each night before they hit the stage.

"My band and crew on the road have been a big reason for the successes in my career and I never take that for granted. It is our goal every single night to give the fans the best show we can, so the last three words we say before stepping onstage [are] 'Win the Night,'" the singer says.

"This one is for my band, my crew, my team and for the ones that continue to show up — the fans!" he adds.

Swindell's upcoming tour is just one of several exciting new ventures he's got planned for 2024: The singer recently released his new song "3 Feet Tall," a potent, emotional ballad about the impact of divorce on young children. It's the first new song off a yet-to-be-announced album Swindell is expected to release next year.

Swindell's got new beginnings on his mind when it comes to his style and look, too. Last week, he posted a photo of himself rocking a shaved head, his signature ball cap in his hand. "New Era," he captioned the snapshot. While that might seem like a simply thing to some artists, photos of Swindell without his cap on his head have been, until now, practically non-existent.

Tickets for the Win the Night Tour go on sale to the public Friday (Dec. 8), with the exception of Swindell's June 8 Cincinnati show, which will go on sale on Dec. 15. For details, visit the singer's website .

Scottie Scheffler wins Memorial Tournament for fifth victory in 8 starts

DUBLIN, OHIO - JUNE 09: Scottie Scheffler of the United States plays his shot on the 11th hole during the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday at Muirfield Village Golf Club on June 09, 2024 in Dublin, Ohio. (Photo by Michael Reaves/Getty Images)

He’s won at Arnold Palmer’s place. He’s won at the home of the PGA Tour . He ran away with a win at Augusta, and he won a week later in Hilton Head.

Scottie Scheffler was already the top golfer in the world, but Sunday he drove that point even further with a win at the Memorial Tournament — Jack Nicklaus’ signature event — for his fifth win in eight starts.

On a challenging Muirfield Village course with only five players playing Sunday under par, Scheffler held off runs by Collin Morikawa and Adam Hadwin to shoot a final round 74 and beat Morikawa by one stroke.

The win makes Scheffler the first golfer to win five PGA Tour events in a single season since Justin Thomas in 2017, and we’re only in June with two majors and the FedEx Cup Playoffs to go. And all five wins were in signature events: the Masters, the Players Championship, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the RBC Heritage and now the Memorial.

Scheffler entered Sunday with a four-shot lead over Morikawa and the rest of the field. As the course played so fast and firm, Scheffler played the front nine over par while the Canadian Hadwin made a strong push to get within one shot.

Morikawa also spent much of the back nine within one, but while so much of the field fell back, Scheffler remained steady. Despite missing seven of his first 11 fairways Sunday, he parred eight straight holes to never concede the lead.

Scheffler even bogeyed the 17th hole to give Morikawa an opportunity to tie on 18. Scheffler’s approach shot then took a hard bounce off the green and into the rough, but Morikawa found that same rough behind the pin.

Scheffler had to sink a five-foot putt for par to win, and he was able to grab the victory with an emotional fist pump.

Big win. Big fist pump. 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 pic.twitter.com/Q6jydEACll — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) June 9, 2024

The tight finish represents another tough second-place result for Morikawa, the two-time major winner having his best season since his 2021 campaign but coming up short multiple times. He was in the final pairing at both the Masters and PGA Championship this spring yet finished seven and six shots back of the winner at both, respectively.

He also entered Sunday at the RBC Heritage two back of Scheffler only to end up six back.

Scheffler is currently a 3-to-1 betting favorite at next week’s U.S. Open at Pinehurst as he’s becoming the sport’s biggest favorite since Tiger Woods’ heyday in 2010.

2024 Memorial Tournament leaderboard: Scottie Scheffler wins his fifth event of year, edging Collin Morikawa

Scheffler never pulled away sunday, but he did just enough to claim another trophy and massive check.

It is not that Scottie Scheffler's game is without its holes; it's simply that, when they emerge, Scheffler possesses plenty of plugs for them. Scheffler (-8) did exactly that over the weekend at Muirfield Village en route to his fifth PGA Tour victory of the season, a one-shot win over Collin Morikawa at the 2024 Memorial Tournament.

It was a familiar scene for Morikawa, who also played in the final Sunday pairing alongside Scheffler at the 2024 Masters. Scheffler won that one, too. This time around, it was a bit closer as Scheffler left the door open a handful of times during a punishing day in which the average score ballooned to nearly 75.

Scheffler shot 74, one better than that average and enough to defeat Morikawa to become the fastest golfer to reach five wins in a PGA Tour season since Tom Watson in 1980.

His play this week showcased not only the depth but the breadth of Scheffler's gifts. When his driver failed him, as it did Saturday when he hit a ball out of bounds on the par-4 9th hole (ultimately just the fifth triple bogey of his career), he was buoyed by the best approach game on the planet and a course management skillset that rivals anybody from the last 25 years.

When Scheffler left himself 16 feet for par Sunday on the par-3 16th hole -- with the tournament lingering in the balance -- he put the ball right in the center and one hand on the trophy. He needed it, too, as he made bogey on the next hole.

A player can get by and even win on the PGA Tour with one elite skill. But what if you have ... all of them?

In 2024, Scheffler has emerged as the best driver in the world and the best iron player in the world; he also ranks second behind only Hideki Matsuyama in strokes gained around the green, according to Data Golf. Throw in the course management and his toughness -- both mental and physical --  and even when you don't get his best stuff, you receive a floor of play that is far beyond most of the other best players in the world.

Sunday's victory was right out of Tiger Woods' playbook. (In fact, Scheffler became the first golfer since Woods in 2001 to win The Players Championship, the Masters and the Memorial in the same season.) Like Tiger, he built up an advantage over the first the first 54 holes and defended the trophy coming home. You don't have to win every event by 10 shots, and Scheffler used to his advantage everything he gained over the first 54 holes at the Memorial.

The result is five -- count 'em, five! -- wins in his last eight PGA Tour starts. Scheffler joins Justin Thomas (2017), Jason Day and Jordan Spieth (2015) as the only golfers to win 5+ over the last 10 years. Scheffler now has about three months to surpass them and potentially with an outside shot of joining the short list of 10 men who have won eight times or more in a single PGA Tour season.

Scheffler also blew past his all-time record of PGA Tour earnings in a single season record by collecting $4 million for this victory. He now sits at just over $24 million, about $3 million beyond what he earned a year ago.

Now, Scheffler marches to Pinehurst as a Tiger Woods-ian 3-1 favorite to win the U.S. Open. That's fitting, too. Because we have seen bits and pieces of greatness in these categories since Tiger returned from his apex around 2010, but we have not seen the full package since then like we have this season (and last season, too) with Scheffler. Grade: A+

Here are the rest of our grades for the 2024 Memorial Tournament.

2. Collin Morikawa (-7):  After a slow start to the year, Morikawa has been sneaky-good over the last two months. Every start beginning with the Masters has been a top 25, and he's now played in the final pairing on Sunday at the Masters, the PGA Championship and the Memorial. He's not really being talked about for the U.S. Open at Pinehurst, but he absolutely should be. U.S. Opens should be the perfect major championship for his style, and every part of his game has been clicking. There's no shame in losing to Scheffler, and Morikawa seems close to PGA Tour win No. 7 (and perhaps major No. 3).  Grade: A

T15. Viktor Hovland (+2):  It was a tale of two tournaments for Hovland, who played his first 43 holes in 8 under and his last 29 in 10 over. Though his approach play was excellent all week, that volatility -- especially in his short game -- does not bode well for next week's U.S. Open. Hovland still seems to be mostly back, but this week was a bit of a check on the fact that he's not quite playing at the level that led to him winning the FedEx Cup nearly a year ago. He's close -- certainly closer than he was -- but clearly a step or two behind the end of 2023 edition of himself.  Grade: B-

MC. Jordan Spieth (+5):  Are you panicked? I'm not panicked. Are you panicked? (OK, I'm maybe a little bit panicked.) Spieth missed the cut at the Memorial, which was a bit difficult to do. Since his T6 at the Phoenix Open in February, Spieth has a DQ, five missed cuts, and just one top 25 finish. What's not working? He's been just average at everything other than driver (a bit shocking). I've never been more sure of anything than I am that Spieth will not come close to winning the U.S. Open at Pinehurst.  Grade: D-

Scottie is hanging on

Muirfield Village is so difficult today, and Scottie is kind of just hanging tough at the top of this board. He's even par through three holes of his back nine, and if he does that for the entirety of the back nine, that should be enough for win No. 5 on the year.

Rory mcilroy sprints past xander schauffele, runs away with 2024 wells fargo championship win, share this article.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —The stars showed up at the PGA Tour’s sixth big-money, no-cut signature event of the season, where two top-five players in the world separated from the pack to set up a slugfest on Sunday.

In the end it was Rory McIlroy who donned the crown and took the throne as the King of the Queen City. The 35-year-old Northern Irishman entered the final round one shot back of Xander Schauffele but flipped the script around the turn to win the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship by a whopping five shots at 17 under after a 6-under 65 at Quail Hollow Club, where he’s now a four-time winner dating back to his maiden victory on Tour in 2010.

“I must say, I do go on Zillow quite a lot and look at some of the properties around here,” McIlroy joked. “I love coming back here, I love spending time here. It’s a place that I’m very comfortable at with Quail Hollow, the city of Charlotte in general and the people. For whatever reason, I get so much great support here.”

“I said it on the 18th green after I won there that all these people have sort of watched me grow up. I won here for the first time as a 20-year-old and now at 35, so they’ve sort of seen my progression throughout the years,” he continued. “I’ve sort of grown up in front of their eyes and I think that’s one of the reasons I get a lot of support here, too.”

McIlroy won his last start at the 2024 Zurich Classic of New Orleans with his partner and good friend Shane Lowry and now has 26 PGA Tour wins to his name. The four-time major champion hasn’t missed a cut this season on Tour in nine starts and has eight finishes inside the top 25, including a trio of top 10s.

“I don’t know what’s more unbelievable, winning a PGA Tour event for the fourth time or getting my (26th win),” said McIlroy. “Whenever I sort of hit some of these milestones or do these things, I always think back to, for example, like 20-year-old me playing in this tournament for the first time. If I had known back then that this is the way everything was going to pan out, I probably wouldn’t have believed you.”

Schauffele, who finished solo second at 12 under after an even-par 71, hasn’t missed a cut in 12 PGA Tour starts this season and has now bagged 11 top-25 finishes, with eight inside the top 10, including a T-2 at the Players Championship. Ben An (66) continued his solid season with a third-place finish at 9 under, his fifth top-10 finish in 13 starts this year. Jason Day (70) and Sungjae Im (73) finished T-4 at 6 under.

“Mixed bag, for sure,” Schauffele said of his round. “I mean, (Rory) played unbelievable. Looked up at the board and I’m like, ‘Dang, he’s 6 under through 6 on the back nine.’ It’s something else. With that being said, yeah, I mean, overall I felt like I was doing pretty well for most of the day and then had that costly stretch and he capitalized like no other. Big reversal there.”

“I felt like I controlled the ball off the tee pretty well, some of those fairways are pretty daunting. Hit some incredible iron shots that I haven’t been able to do in quite some time, you know, right to left and left to right,” Schauffele explained. “Overall, I just need to clean up my short game, it’s always been a deciding factor whether I win a tournament or not, sort of a trigger stat for me, and it definitely hurt me today.”

McIlroy began the day with a birdie on the first hole to briefly tie Schauffele but fell back with a bad bogey on the par-3 4th hole after his tee shot was a club short and found the bunker.

On No. 6, Schauffele left a birdie putt, albeit a lengthy one, criminally short, which would foreshadow what was to come the rest of the round. From off the green, McIlroy nearly holed his chip and put the pressure on Schauffele to make his knee-knocker for par from eight feet. The putt skated by and the pair were once again tied.

On the par-5 7th, McIlroy missed fairway then barely held the green to leave a lengthy effort for birdie that he didn’t give enough respect nor pace. Schauffele, meanwhile, found the fairway and played the contour of the green to perfection to set up an eagle and bounce back from the bogey and take a two-shot lead after McIlroy three-jacked for par. Then the tide turned.

HOLE-OUT EAGLE FOR RORY!!! He now leads by SIX! pic.twitter.com/UE49lwfwNC — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) May 12, 2024

“You know, that was a big moment on 7. I three-putted, Xander made an eagle. Then Xander was inside me on 8, I knew I really needed to hole that putt just to try to stay or keep up with him,” McIlroy said of the situation. “Then he missed his, I birdied mine and then I just went on a run that for whatever reason I’m able to go on at this golf course.”

McIlroy made birdie on Nos. 8 and 9 from just outside 10 feet while Schauffele missed his birdie efforts from 10 and 31 feet, respectively, to make the turn to the back nine tied at 13 under. McIlroy curled in a 33-footer for eagle to one-up Schauffele’s birdie on No. 10 to take his first lead of the tournament and he never looked back. McIlroy extended his lead with a birdie-birdie-eagle run on Nos. 13-15 – after his eagle he threw his ball into the crowd – while Schauffele stumbled with bogeys on Nos. 12, 13 and 16 and a lone back-nine birdie on No. 15.

Standing on the 18th tee box, McIlroy had a seven-shot lead, which came in handy as his approach to the back pin on the par 4 skipped off the edge and found the creek that runs along the entirety of the hole. A double-bogey six put the cherry on top of a five-shot win.

win the tour

DUBLIN, Ohio (AP) — Winning has become a habit for Scottie Scheffler, except there was nothing typical about his victory Sunday at the Memorial.

He made only one birdie. He closed with a 2-over 74, his highest final round in two years. And victory wasn’t assured until Scheffler had the mettle to put a firm stroke on a downhill putt from 5 feet above the hole to take out the break.

It went right in the heart for a one-shot victory over Collin Morikawa, and a handshake with tournament host Jack Nicklaus. Their exchange said it all.

“You’re a survivor,” Nicklaus told him.

“Thanks,” Scheffler said. “Yeah, you made this place brutal today.”

Scheffler endured more stress than he wanted and got the victory everyone has come to expect, his fifth of the season — one week into the month of June — as he heads for another tough test next week in the U.S. Open.

Muirfield Village was so demanding with its ultra firm greens and swirling gusts throughout the afternoon that only six players broke par and the average score was a fraction under 75.

Scheffler, who started four shots ahead, never lost the lead. He never felt safe, either, not with Morikawa and Adam Hadwin on his heels all afternoon, and on a back nine where making par felt like hard work. Par is what it took on the 18th hole.

Jon Rahm, of Spain, speaks during a news conference at the U.S. Open golf tournament Tuesday, June 11, 2024, in Pinehurst, N.C. (AP Photo/Matt York)

“This is a tough place to close out,” Scheffler said. “I didn’t do a whole lot great today, but I did enough.”

Just barely.

Scheffler was leading Morikawa by one shot and both hit approach shots that bounced hard and high off the green and into the rough. Both chipped to about 5 feet. Scheffler buried his putt to win, and the force of his fist pump to celebrate showed how tough this day was on him, and practically everybody.

Making the day even more special was a recent memory with Nicklaus at the Memorial, and cradling month-old son Bennett at his newborn’s first PGA Tour event.

Scheffler thought back to 2021, when he missed a 6-foot putt on the final hole that ended any chance of a playoff. Walking off the green, he recalls Nicklaus telling him one day Scheffler will make the putt on 18 “and I’ll be walking off to shake his hand.”

“It was pretty special thinking about that as I was walking over to shake his hand,” he said.

Morikawa, who played in the final group of both majors this year, holed a 30-foot birdie putt on the par-3 12th hole and stayed on Scheffler’s heels the rest of the way. He shot 71, the only one from the final 13 groups to break par.

Adam Hadwin was right there with them until closing with three straight bogeys for a 74 to finish alone in third.

Scheffler finished at 8-under 280 and won $4 million from this signature event and its $20 million purse. That pushes him over $24 million for the year, breaking the PGA Tour season earnings record — and it’s barely June — that he set last year in this era of rising purses.

He also become the first player since Tom Watson in 1980 to have won five times on the PGA Tour before the U.S. Open.

That’s next week at Pinehurst No. 2, and Scheffler will go to the U.S. Open as a huge favorite. This was his 11th consecutive tournament with a top 10.

Morikawa picked up $2.2 million and now has a big cushion as he tries to sew up the fourth spot for the Americans going to Paris this summer for the Olympics.

Hadwin was within one shot of the lead until finishing the front nine with a pair of bogeys. He stayed in the hunt until closing with a pair of bogeys for a 74. Still, his third-place finish moves him ahead of Corey Conners for the second Canadian spot in the Olympics.

The world ranking after the U.S. Open determines who goes to Paris.

Scheffler had only one birdie — a 10-foot putt on the sixth hole — and he missed two birdie chances inside 10 feet on the back nine that could have provided a cushion.

But he made the biggest one on the par-3 16th.

Scheffler and Morikawa were both short of the super slick green some 90 feet away. Scheffler used putter and hit it weakly, coming up 15 feet short. Morikawa chipped from the collar and also hit a pedestrian chip some 20 feet short.

Morikawa missed his par putt, and Scheffler buried his for a two-shot lead.

Scheffler dropped his final shot on the 17th, however, and he was clinging again to a one-shot lead playing the tough 18th that he ended with one last putt.

Next up is the so-called toughest test in golf, and players felt like they just got finished with one at Muirfield Village.

“You could look at it one of two ways,” Hadwin said. “Either it’s good prep for next week or we just got our butts kicked before going into next week.”

For Scheffler it’s another victory, his 11th of his career and 12th worldwide. He has finished strong to win big or come from behind. He has pulled away when it was tight at the start. This time, he nearly lost a four-shot lead.

It was his highest closing round since a 74 in the British Open at St. Andrews in 2022. But it goes in the book as another big win against the strongest fields. He now has won three signature events (Bay Hill and Hilton Head were the others) to go along with The Players Championship and his second green jacket at the Masters.

Scottie Scheffler  earned his 11th PGA Tour win Sunday at the 2024 Memorial Tournament . In a quirk of scheduling, it’s his first victory after the month of April.

Regardless, a win is a win is a win, and Scheffler now has five this year, the first to win five in a season since Justin Thomas seven years ago.

What’s more, it’s yet another signature event victory, which means elevated first-place cash. This Memorial win was good for $4 million and brings his career on-course earnings on the PGA Tour to $66,589,782.

His win in April at the Masters moved him into  10th all-time . This latest victory has leapfrogged him past Justin Rose and Adam Scott into the No. 7 slot.

His 11 wins include two Masters, two Players (the richest event on the PGA Tour), two Arnold Palmer Invitationals, two WM Phoenix Opens (one of which was a signature event) as well as a Match Play, an RBC Heritage and now a Memorial.

He is a Tiger Woods-hosted Genesis Invitational shy of winning all three of the player-hosted events.

Scottie Scheffler’s 11 PGA Tour wins

  • 2022 WM Phoenix Open:  $1,476,000
  • 2022 Arnold Palmer Invitational:  $2,160,000
  • 2022 World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play:  $2,100,000
  • 2022 Masters:  $2,700,000

Scheffler is one of 16 players in the history of the PGA Tour to reach the $50 million plateau in on-course earnings.

Runner-up Collin Morikawa and Ben An became the ninth and 10 th  players this season to cross $5 million in earnings.

Here’s a closer look at how much each player who made the cut in the 73-man field earned from a purse of $20 million.

Tour de France winning bikes: Which brand has won the most Tours in history?

A history of the most successful bike brands at the Tour de France

Pogacar's Colnago

With 21 stages covering thousands of kilometres of flat, rolling and mountainous terrain, accompanied by the staccato efforts of the puncheurs, the enormously high power efforts of the sprinters, and the high-speed cornering that accompanies the descents, the Tour de France is one of the biggest tests a bike can face.

While no bike could win the race alone without a deserving rider, the same can also be said the other way round; any Tour de France winning bike has earned its place on the top step of the podium.

Over the years, the basic design of all Tour de France bikes hasn't changed all that much. There are still two wheels, two triangles, gears, a chain, and pneumatic tyres, but the technology supporting each part has advanced by lightyears. We can’t help but wonder what the race would look like if you took today’s riders, and made them race the three-week tour on the bikes ridden in the 1903 edition of the race — or the other way around.

With WorldTour teams using the equipment provided by their sponsors, many of the brands that are racking up stage wins in the modern race are still comparatively young compared to the Tour de France itself. But even while certain brands sponsor multiple teams, some of which are dominant, these young teams may never rack up the same number of TDF general classification wins as many of the now-defunct bike brands of old.

We’ve combed through the results of every edition of the Tour and tabulated which brands have dominated the race over the last century. Because of the unavoidable shadow cast by doping over the sport during this time, we've listed the total number of wins per brand based on any retrospective action that was taken, such that our list tallies with the Tour's own records.

Further complicating matters is the historically common practice of frames being built by a different brand than the one displayed on their tubes. The most significant of these instances concerns the French manufacturer Alcyon. Between 1930 and 1939, every bike ridden in the Tour was labelled L'Auto, as decreed by the race organisers. It is widely assumed that these were built by Alcyon in each year except 1938, which would add 9 victories to the company's tally. But, since there was no competition, these wins could be judged to be by default. To simplify matters here, we're sticking with the brand name on the winning frame.

1. Pinarello - 16 wins

By now, we’ve all heard Dave Brailsford’s infamous quote about ‘marginal gains,’ and with the number of Tour wins his Pinarello sponsored team has racked up, it’s hard to argue with this philosophy. But Pinarello was winning the Tour de France long before Brailsford started his tenure at Sky/Ineos or British Cycling.

Pinarello earned its first TDF overall classification in 1988, piloted by Pedro Delgado riding with Team Reynolds. This race was marred with controversy, as Delgado tested positive for Probenecid, which at the time was considered a performance-enhancing drug by the IOC, but was not yet banned by the UCI.

In the early 1990s, Pinarello road bikes were ridden to six consecutive TDF General Classification victories by Miguel Induráin, Bjarne Riis — he was removed from then reinstated to the winner's list after admitting to taking PEDs, with an asterisk to acknowledge the offence — and Jan Ulrich who finished second in the 1996 tour behind Riis, and won his only Tour in 1997.

Some of the Pinarello-branded bikes ridden in the Tour in the late '80s and early '90s were actually manufactured by TVT, though this was a pretty common practice of the era. In the interest of names on frames, we count 16 in total for the Italians.

2. Peugeot - 10 wins

Peugeot has been making bicycles since the early 1800s, and while today it is best known for its cars, the French brand still produces a range of road, commuter, and mountain bikes, and even sponsor an eMTB team.

Originally from Sochaux, France, the French brand earned its first Tour de France victory in 1905 with French rider Louis Trousselier and most recently in 1977 with Bernard Thévenet riding a Peugeot PY-10.

While Peugeot’s official Tour de France count is 10, they were also part of the collective of French automotive manufacturers that banded together after World War I under the moniker La Sportive to provide bikes for the race between 1919 and 1921. La Sportive has won in all three of these editions, which in part can be attributed to Peugeot.

Jean-Marie Leblanc, posing in front of the café "Le Réveil-matin", the site of the first ever Grand Départ in 1903, organised by Henri Desgrange, owner of the newspaper L'Auto

3. L’Auto - 10 wins

In 1903, Henri Desgrange, the editor of the newspaper L’Auto, founded the Tour de France as a publicity stunt for his waning publication - spoiler alert, it worked.

As Desgrange was running the race and setting the rules, in 1930, he banned trade teams and only allowed national teams to participate, stipulating that each rider had to use a generic bicycle. For those 10 pre-war years, every rider from the yellow jersey winner to the lanterne rouge competed on a yellow road bike with L’Auto painted on the downtube.

 4. Gitane - 9 wins

With nine Tour de France victories, French outfit Gitane made the bikes which Laurent Fignon and Bernard Hinault rode to their wins. The brand was widespread in the professional peloton from the 1960s through to the 1980s and was also well known for producing motorcycles, also supporting moto racing teams during this period as well.

In 1972, Gitane produced the “Tour de France”, which was a lightweight (for the time) frame, made from Reynolds 531 tubing and served as the brand's race bike, until it went on hiatus from the WorldTour.

After a few name changes and transfers of ownership, Gitane ended up as part of the same brand portfolio as Peugeot and B.H, under the umbrella of Cyclegroup — which later was purchased by a Swedish firm that now also owns Bianchi.

Gitane purchased the Helyett company in the 1960s, and also claimed their three Tour victories, which were achieved by Jacques Anquetil in 1957, 1961 and 1962. The Helyett frames may well have been built by Gitane too, but since we're sticking to names on frames, Gitane remains on nine victories.

Trek upgraded Armstrong with lighter OCLV 110 carbon and a 1 1/8

5. Alcyon - 7 wins

With seven wins to its name, Alcyon, like so many of the brands that provided bikes to early Tour teams, made bikes, cars, and motorcycles. The brand’s first-ever win in the Tour de France came from the Luxembourgian François Faber, who also clinched five stage victories in that edition.

Alcyon sponsored a team through the 1920s and was becoming a force in the peloton winning the 1927, 1928 and 1929 editions, but the visibility of the Alcyon name ended there due to Desgrange’s ban on trade teams in 1930.

Romain Bardet's Eddy Merckx Stockeu69

6. Merckx - 5 wins

If we are going by what was written on the down tube, Merckx would be the next on our list, though by all accounts, the Cannibal was riding bikes built by Masi and Kessels. Despite a storied history, and recent sponsorship of AG2R, Merckx isn't a presence at the 2022 Tour. Its recent history involves financial difficulty and a takeover by Ridley Bikes , so we don't expect this number to grow for a while.

Henri Pélissier, winner of the Tour de France in 1923, did so aboard an Automoto bicycle

7. Automoto - 4 wins

French outfit Automoto was founded in 1902 and like so many others of the era, was in the business of two-wheeled vehicles, both human-powered and motorised.

The brand won four consecutive Tours de France under Henri Pélissier in 1923, Ottavio Bottecchia in 1924 and 1925, and Lucien Buysse in 1926. A few years later, in 1930, the brand was purchased by Peugeot but still produced bikes and motorcycles under the Automoto brand name until 1962, when it was discontinued.

Philippe Thys, who won the Tour de France three times, won his final maillot jaune aboard a La Sportive bike

8. La Sportive - 3 wins

While La Sportive may only have three Tour wins under its belt, and was only in existence for a handful of years, it’s one of our favourite stories in cycling history.

World War One left Europe in bad shape, and many of the factories that produced bicycles had been reduced to rubble. The continent was in a depression, and spending money on sporting teams was hardly a priority at the time.

So to make sure the race would not be yet another casualty of the war, Alcyon, Armor, Automoto, Clément, La Française, Gladiator, Griffon, Hurtu, Labor, Liberator, Peugeot and Thomann banded together to provide equipment to half the peloton, and sponsored the race from 1919-1921. Given that half the riders were on La Sportive bikes during these years, it’s no surprise they came away with the General Classification each time, with Firmin Lambot winning in 1919, Philippe Thys winning in 1920 and Léon Scieur in 1921.

The group disbanded in 1922 when each respective company restarted their own teams.

Primož Roglič's custom-painted Bianchi Oltre XR4

9. Bianchi - 3 wins

The last time a Bianchi was ridden down the Champs-Élysées at the top of the general classification was in 1998 when Marco Pantani had the yellow jersey on his shoulders. This edition was drama-filled not only because of the racing, as the 85th edition was also the year of the Festina affair that marred the race with police raids, rider strikes, and teams pulling out of the race.

Bianchi’s other Tour de France victories were with Fausto Coppi in the saddle, in 1949 and 1952.

The brand came within a hair's width of doing it again in 2020, but Primož Roglič's untimely implosion on the stage 2020 time trial up La Planche des Belles Filles handed the race to Tadej Pogačar, resulting in Colnago's first-ever maillot jaune.

Tadej Pogacar Yellow bike

10. Trek, Colnago, Specialized, Frejus, Stella and Geminiani - 2 wins

For a brand with a history so ingrained in cycling culture, it does seem out of sorts that until 2020, Colnago had never won a Tour de France. Of course, thanks to Tadej Pogacar, it's won two in a row and is the bookies' favourite for the 2022 edition too. His hat trick would see Colnago step up the standings and sit alongside Italian rivals Bianchi.

Snapping at Colnago's heels are five other brands, each with two wins to their name: Frejus, Stella, Geminiani, Trek and Specialized.

Trek has a tumultuous history with the Tour de France; its bikes have 'won' a total of nine Tours de France, however, with all of Lance Armstrong’s 'victories' being officially stricken from the record, the big red barn in Wisconsin can only officially claim Alberto Contador’s 2007 and 2009 wins. In 2022, none of the Trek Segafredo riders are expected to fight for GC, so don't expect Trek to get another this year.

Given Frejus, Stella and Geminiani no longer operate in the sport, Specialized is the only other brand able to climb above Colnago. However, despite sponsoring three of the teams in this year's race, Specialized's hopes would fall on Aleksandr Vlasov (Bora Hansgrohe) as the only of their riders at the race with any serious GC ambitions.

Elsewhere, BMC has also crossed the line 1st in Paris on two occasions, but while Cadel Evans' 2011 title is irrefutable, soon after the 2006 Tour, Floyd Landis was found to have doped, was removed from the results, and Óscar Pereiro confirmed as the race winner, thus adding to Pinarello's victory total.

Betting | U.S. Open best bets: PGA Tour odds, picks, predictions for Pinehurst

Scottie Scheffler is the overwhelming favorite to win the U.S. Open at Pinehurst.

Commercial Content. 21+. Action Network is the official betting partner of the Chicago Tribune.

The U.S. Open is back at Pinehurst No. 2 this weekend, with Scottie Scheffler seeking his second major championship win in 2024.

Pinehurst will undoubtedly test every golfer’s limits, so mental toughness, short-term memory and fantastic form will be required to hold the trophy on Sunday.

Scheffler (+300, FanDuel ) enters the Open as the overwhelming favorite to win. According to Action Network researcher Evan Abrams, only Tiger Woods had shorter odds for a major in the last 40 years, and Scheffler’s odds for this week’s tournament is the shortest in a major since Woods in 2009 (+180, PGA).

A par-70 for the U.S. Open, Pinehurst measures 7,540 yards, so total driving will be vital to success.

Except for Martin Kaymer’s wire-to-wire victory 11 years ago, winners at Pinehurst since it was restored in 2014 have hovered around 1-under after 72 holes, meaning scrambling and greens in regulation percentage are supremely important statistics, too.

With that said, let’s get into our best bets for the 2024 U.S. Open.

2024 U.S. Open best bets

Scottie scheffler to win (+333, betmgm ).

Scheffler has been on a run as dominant as we have seen since Woods was in his prime.

The world’s best ball striker, who is coming off his fifth PGA Tour victory at the Memorial . That’s five victories in his last eight starts, including wins at Augusta ( The Masters ) and TPC Sawgrass (The Players); he even recorded two T-2s at Memorial Park (Houston Open) and Colonial Country Club (Charles Schwab Challenge).

His worst finish came at Valhalla during the PGA Championship, when he finished T-8; however, if you were anywhere with cellular service, you’d recall that Scheffler was arrested that weekend, which would throw anyone off their game .

It might be a cop-out to lean on Scheffler to win the U.S. Open, but that does not change the fact that he is not only the best golfer in the world right now but the best golfer by a sizable margin. Let’s check out some of Scheffler’s tour rankings so far to back that claim quantitatively.

Scheffler ranks first in shots gained, shots gained approach to green, shots gained tee-to-green, greens in regulations percentage (GIR%), proximity to hole, putting average, scoring average, par-4s, birdie average, approaches insides 100 yards, approaches from 100-125 yards, approaches from 150-175 yards, and bogey avoidance.

Further, he’s second in shots gained off the tee, fourth in scrambling and sixth in total driving.

His performance last weekend at Muirfield, a mind-testing course, gives us plenty of confidence in backing him heading into the U.S. Open, even if his short odds don’t give us a ton of value.

Don’t worry, we also have a longshot to balance our card …

Aaron Rai's long iron game should play well at Pinehurst.

Aaron Rai to win (22-1, FanDuel ) and top-10 finish (+1200, bet365 )

Rai fits the bill of a player who can contend at Pinehurst No. 2.

He ranks second on the PGA Tour in greens in regulation percentage (behind Scheffler), seventh in shots gained approach to green and proximity to hole, ninth in approach from more than 200 yards, 12th in shots gained, 16th in scrambling percentage, 25th in shots gained off the tee and 56th in total driving (ninth in driving accuracy).

Rai’s putting has held him back at times this season, but if he finds himself on the green in regulation on most holes. He will gain plenty of strokes on the field since no one will go super low at Pinehurst. In fact, any finish under par could get a player a U.S. Open win this week

Pinehurst plays long, so Rai’s fantastic long iron game will greatly help him here, as will his scrambling ability and driving accuracy.

He has two top-10 finishes in his past seven starts, making his implied probability of 9.09% finishing in the range a fantastic value.

And if Rai were to get hot with the putter, he could certainly contend on Sunday with the best of the best. A top-10 finish is reasonable, as does sprinkling an outright win at 22-1.

Scottie Scheffler’s victory at the Memorial presented by Workday shows how far he’s come

Change Text Size

DUBLIN, Ohio – Not long ago, Scottie Scheffler wasn’t winning. Well, wasn’t is harsh. He wasn’t winning enough – not for someone lapping the field from tee to green at a rate not seen since peak Tiger Woods. That type of prowess is historically accompanied by at least a half dozen victories, including a major championship or two, and proclamations of generational stardom.

Instead, Scheffler’s 2023 was defined mainly by what he didn’t do. His two wins should’ve been six. His close calls in majors should’ve yielded at least one victory, and his tightly contested battle with Jon Rahm for Player of the Year should’ve been a runaway race.

See, the world loves to poke holes in greatness and Scheffler had one rather glaring bugaboo that was rightly picked apart: his putting. As invincible as he looked with a driver, iron or wedge in his hands, the cloak dropped when Scheffler stepped on the green. Suddenly, he was human. All the drama shifted from the approach shot to the putt. The exceptional wedge to 5 feet was expected. Whether or not he made the birdie putt became the riveting question. With cameras tightly focused on Scheffler’s putter head, we watched balls veer offline and saw an exasperated Scheffler as the camera panned up. He insisted he was improving and that the fix was not far off, but the stats showed a man without answers.

It came to a head at last year’s Memorial Tournament presented by Workday, where Scheffler strung together his magnum opus from tee to green, gaining 20.7 strokes on the field, the second-best ball striking performance of anyone in the previous 20 years on the PGA TOUR. Yet he stood on the 18th green down by one shot and watched as his 15-foot birdie to go to a playoff slid by the cup, a familiar sight. He lost more than eight strokes on the greens that week, the worst mark in the field. In a year full of putting disappointment, no shortcoming better encapsulated Scheffler’s season – historically great ball-striking and historically poor putting. As he walked off the green, Jack Nicklaus stopped him and said, “(You) didn't make the putt today, but one day (you’ll) make the putt.”

So, as Scheffler poured in a slippery 5-foot par putt on the 18th to win this year’s Memorial by one over Collin Morikawa, it was a reminder of just how far Scheffler has come, with his putter and his place in the sport.

Scottie Scheffler pars the last to hold on and win the Memorial

Jack was right. This time, the putt went in.

“It was pretty special thinking about that as I was walking over to shake (Jack’s) hand today,” said Scheffler after his final-round 74. “Yeah, it was a fun week.”

Scheffler is displaying domination only a few men – Nicklaus included – have conjured. Everything that seemed possible a year ago, but fell just out of reach, has come true. Scheffler is the commanding force in men’s golf with no sign of slowing down, regardless of off-course circumstances that would have spurned lesser competitors.

Scheffler’s win at Jack’s Place was his fifth of the season, the first to reach the milestone since Justin Thomas in the 2017 season. He is the first to win five times before the U.S. Open since Tom Watson in 1980, and Scheffler enters the year’s third major at Pinehurst No. 2 as the overwhelming favorite. With 3-1 betting odds, Scheffler holds the lowest odds entering a major championship since Tiger Woods at the 2009 PGA Championship.

“It’s not luck and it’s not just a run,” said Tom Kim, close friends with Scheffler. “It’s a consistency that’s unbelievable. He gets better every day. He's Tiger-esque.”

In a matter of three months, Scheffler has gone from one of the best in the world to the unrivaled pinnacle that everyone is chasing. He has won this year’s Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, THE PLAYERS Championship, the Masters, the RBC Heritage and the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday. Winning those five events in a career would deliver a lasting imprint on the sport. Scheffler accomplished it all in one season.

He has done it amidst his fair share of distractions. Some were good, like the birth of his first child, Bennett. Others were worse. He’s dealt with increasing comparisons to titans of the sport, a la Woods and Nicklaus, a pressure that has crushed others through time. Then, there was the incident outside Valhalla Golf Club during the PGA Championship that led to Scheffler’s arrest. Scheffler still finished T8. Then he carded a runner-up at the Charles Schwab Challenge, both while the case was ongoing and as he dealt with the emotions of Grayson Murray’s passing.

Scheffler was undeterred by any of it. His greatness persisted.

“I don't know how he does it,” Scheffler’s caddie Ted Scott said. “With what happened at Louisville and then the tragedy with Grayson, that really affected him a lot. So yeah, it's been a whirlwind of emotions for the last month, but sometimes it's probably a safe place to go, you get in contention and you’re just focused on what you’re trying to do and can get away from the noise.”

Scottie Scheffler battles tough course conditions to win the Memorial

His mental toughness has kept Scheffler grounded, though that’s a characteristic the world No. 1 has carried much longer than a few months. The biggest on-course variable that shifted was the putter.

When the struggles popped up last year, Scheffler initially avoided making significant changes. He kept at it with his normal blade putter, utilizing the same drills with Randy Smith that he used since childhood. He contended he was hitting good putts that weren’t falling, but as the struggles accumulated, it became hard to justify that small changes were all that was needed.

“I tried to do my best to block out the noise, but it was tough coming in here every week and having to answer questions about my putting. It's like, listen guys, I'm doing the best I can, I promise,” Scheffler said with a laugh.

Scheffler ranked 161st in Strokes Gained: Putting last season. His struggles were notable to his friends, too.

“I saw a lot of frustration there,” Kim said. “Even in practice, you could just see him grinding on the putting. He's come a long way.”

In September, Scheffler sought the help of putting coach Phil Kenyon, notable given Scheffler had never worked with anyone other than Smith. Kenyon worked with Scheffler on refining his technique and once that was solid and repeatable, they prioritized feeling athletic instead of being robotic. Scheffler won the Hero World Challenge in December, his first stroke-play event alongside Kenyon, but the woes weren’t corrected until February. That’s when Scheffler switched from his blade putter to a mallet. He won four of his next five starts, including THE PLAYERS and the Masters. He's 71st in SG: Putting this season – far from exceptional but plenty good to support his generational tee-to-green statistics.

“I wouldn't trade those weeks that I had back or the year I had last year, just because I felt like I learned a lot about myself and what makes me tick and I think it made me a better player today,” said Scheffler. “A lot of the challenges in this game, I think, can only toughen me up.”

Scottie Scheffler’s interview after winning the Memorial

It was an experience to fall back on during the final round. Scheffler watched as several putts lipped out or just slid by, any of which would have made Sunday’s proceedings smoother. The lead began at four shots, but by the fifth hole, it was just one. Adam Hadwin made three early birdies, and Scheffler bogeyed the fourth. His lead bounced between one and two shots all day long as Hadwin fell down the board, Morikawa charged and Scheffler couldn’t get a putt to drop. But the pivotal swing came on the 16th when Scheffler jarred a 16-foot par putt, and Morikawa missed one of a similar length. That briefly gave Scheffler a two-shot lead. The lead dropped to one after Scheffler bogeyed 17 and Morikawa made par, but the cushion was enough. Both facing short par putts on the 18th, Scheffler stepped up first, knocked down the speedy 5-footer and fist-pumped for the crowd. Morikawa’s putt didn’t matter. It was over.

“He just knocked that ball in like champions do,” Nicklaus said.

A champion many times over.

Cyclist celebrates early and lets Australian Ruby Roseman-Gannon in for the win during final stage of Tour of Britain

Sport Cyclist celebrates early and lets Australian Ruby Roseman-Gannon in for the win during final stage of Tour of Britain

Tour of Britain

Australian champion Ruby Roseman-Gannon was gifted her first World Tour triumph overnight, winning the final stage of the Tour of Britain after a rival threw away the chance of victory by celebrating too early in a bizarre finish.

Roseman-Gannon, the 25-year-old Melbourne star who took both the Criterium and road race titles at the national championships, just couldn't believe it when Luxembourg's Christine Majerus sat up just before the line at the race finish in Leigh, raising her arm in triumph believing she had won.

But it was a calamitous miscalculation as Roseman-Gannon stormed through in the wet conditions in Manchester to pip the Luxembourger to the victory by less than half a wheel, just days after a walker lost her podium place after celebrating early .

"It's when you really don't expect it, some races you come in as a leader and you have a lot of pressure, and other races you come in and it all works out," Roseman-Gannon said.

"Today I was pretty worried about the rain and I was nervous about crashing and I wasn't really in the right mindset that I was going to win the race — but to win is amazing. Overall it was a great race!"

But the final stage proved a bit of an embarrassment to the all-conquering SD Worx-ProTime team as their overall race winner, Lotte Kopecky, tried to "gift" the final stage to her teammate Majerus.

With Belgian world champ Kopecky's overall triumph secured, she eased up with 250 metres left to let Majerus win the day, but the terrible miscalculation let the Australian in.

"We made this deal that she is going to win today but maybe it was a stupid mistake," Kopecky said.

"I still, however, would have done the same. It could have been a nice ending for Christine, but we finished well as a team.

"Maybe it is a little funny and it is what it is, and I'm not disappointed."
