“The Office” Fans Can Spend A Night At Dunder Mifflin — Here’s How

"Oh my god. OK, it's happening!!!!!"

How to win a stay at Dunder Mifflin from "The Office."

Your chance to exude main character energy is closer than you think. If you’re part of the uh, millions of people that have watched The Office , you might have fantasized about starring in your own workplace sitcom at some point — or at the very least, have daydreamed about eating Kevin’s chili IRL. You can partially live out such a fantasy (minus the chili part) all thanks to Booking.com.

The travel site is putting together a once-in-a-lifetime experience for loyal Office fans to spend a night at Dunder Mifflin. Rather than making their way to Scranton, Pennsylvania, fans will be treated to a day in Washington, D.C. The Office Experience is located in the historic Woodies Building, where you can find a recreation of The Office’s most famous spots that include original show costumes, props, and activations. The experience is typically only available for ticketed tours, but two lucky pairs will get a more personal stay at Scranton Business Park.

Starting Wednesday, Nov. 16, fans of the show can head to Booking.com at noon ET to try and win a one-night stay at the office . Winners will be chosen on a first come, first served basis — so you might have to set an alarm if you want to try your luck. The stays with take place on Nov. 19 and Nov. 20 and will only cost $20.05 per night in honor of the year The Office first premiered in the United States.

Winners will get a unique experience compared to what is normally available to the public. The itinerary includes a guided tour of The Office Experience, dinner at a nearby D.C. restaurant, Stanley-inspired crossword puzzles, and a scavenger hunt (the winner of this will get their very own Dundie award too). And no worries, if staying in an office — even if it is a fake one — overnight sounds like a nightmare come true, Booking.com will secure the winners a room in a nearby property for them to spend the night.

Even if you don’t get to experience the overnight stay, The Office Experience will be open through Jan. 16, 2023, so you can plan a trip that fits into your OOO days. The two-story experience has 17 different areas made to look like iconic moments and sets from the show like Pam’s desk, Michael’s office, and the site of Kevin’s notorious chili spill. Tickets start at $32 and go up depending on the perks you might want to add, though there’s nothing to lose if you try to win big on Nov. 16. After all, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

If you haven’t guessed it by now, I am a huge fan of the TV show The Office - as evidenced by this massive guide you’re about to read. My friends and I decided to completely geek out on a trip to Los Angeles and dress up as our favorite The Office characters while we went on a self-guided tour to many of the filming locations in Southern California. I was dressed as “3-hole-punch Jim”, Kara was Dwight and Brianna was Kelly.

The Office show takes places in Scranton, Pennsylvania, but in reality most of the show is filmed in Los Angeles. The most commonly used cities for filming locations is Van Nuys, Panorama City and Studio City - which are commonly known as “The Valley” to LA locals.

It can be tricky to find the exact addresses to the filming locations, but don’t fret because I’ve done all the research for you.

Also, if you listen to the Office Ladies Podcast by Jenna Fischer (who plays Pam Beesly) and Angela Kinsey (who plays Angela Martin), they reveal many of The Office film locations and they provide all kinds of insider info on the show for fans.

Finally, for all The Office fans, you can shop my huge Etsy collection of The Office fan gear including mugs, t-shirts, graphic art and more . Etsy is where my husband purchased my blue Dunder Mifflin coffee mug that you’ll see in the photos in this blog post.

Fun fact for all The Office fans, Season 1 of the show was filmed in a real-life office building in Culver City close to the cross streets La Cienega Blvd & W Jefferson Blvd. After they were picked up for another season, they moved to Chandler Valley Center Studios which is were most of us recognize the exterior of the building.

We took lots of photos outside the Dunder Mifflin office building, and I even tried to sneak a peek inside the gate until a very polite security guard asked me to step away.

How To Book An All-Nighter In Dunder Mifflin At The Office Experience In D.C.

How To Book The Office Experience All-Nighter In Washington, D.C.

As Michael Scott once said, “An office is a place where dreams come true.”

Somehow, the office of a paper company is forever etched in our hearts as a parasocial second home. At the seemingly mundane Scranton branch of fictional Dunder Mifflin, fans of The Office fell in love with the eccentric and eclectic characters , as their silly and heartwarming stories unfolded over nine seasons. You can finally step into these familiar halls and conference rooms at The Office Experience coming to Washington, D.C. this fall, and it’s packed with show references, re-created scenes, and replica rooms for fans of The Office to experience the unassuming magic the show’s known for. Thanks to Booking.com’ s “golden ticket idea,” you can even win the opportunity to pull an all-nighter in Dunder Mifflin to enjoy all the attraction has to offer, plus special accommodations. Here’s how to enter to win a night at The Office Experience in Washington, D.C.

You can transport from the capital city to the Electric City this November with a plus-one and relive all your favorite moments from “good old days” of The Office series. There are so many fond moments to look back on, from the hilarious lines uttered by the “World’s Best Boss” in Michael’s Scott's office and when Kevin’s chili exploded onto the carpet at reception, to when Dwight pulled the fire alarm and Angela threw her cat into the ceiling vent — and this experience includes so many easter eggs.

The immersive attraction was created in consultation with The Office ’s U.S. creator, Greg Daniels, and is fully decorated with original props and costumes used by the actors across two floors. You can explore 17 different areas of set recreations that’ll take you from Pam’s desk, to the warehouse, to Ryan’s closet, and even Schrute farms (better brush up on your garden party etiquette).

How To Book An All-Nighter In Dunder Mifflin At The Office Experience In D.C.

Visitors can also relive iconic Office episodes like sumo fighting on “beach day” or stepping into the “Michael Scott Paper Company” office. There are so many goofy and sweet moments from the show to revisit and experience after years of marathon-watching and quoting lines with your friends. As the Scranton branch manager of Dunder Mifflin once said: “An office is for not dying. An office is a place to live life to the fullest, to the max … an office is a place where dreams come true.”

5 Spots Every Fan of ‘The Office’ Must Visit in Scranton, PA

We’re not just fans of “The Office”. We’re borderline-obsessed, know-every-quote, watch-it-constantly superfans. So, when we road-tripped out to the Poconos for a long weekend with our family in November, it only made sense that we would visit the city where the show was based.

Unlike one of our other favorite shows, Parks & Recreation – another Greg Daniels/Michael Schur masterpiece – “The Office” is set in a real city: Scranton, Pennsylvania.

As I’ve learned from the Office Ladies podcast , the directors took great care to ensure the show remained authentic to its Scranton setting.

They even went as far as picking up local props (fliers, products, stickers, magnets, restaurant menus and more) to decorate the background of the Dunder Mifflin Scranton set.

Remember that Froggy 101 sticker on Dwight’s desk? Yep, that’s a real radio station in Scranton. What about the club soda featured throughout the show? That was from the Crystal Soda Water Co., a family-run business in Scranton.

These little nods to the former coal town make the show feel like it was really filmed there (despite occasionally seeing palm trees in the background of the driving scenes).

Of course, there are also the more memorable and recognizable Scranton locales featured on “The Office”, including:

  • Alfredo’s Pizza Café (not to be confused with the vastly inferior Pizza by Alfredo, which is fictional)

Cooper’s Seafood House

Poor richard’s pub.

  • The Marketplace at Steamtown (aka the Steamtown Mall)
  • Penn Paper tower

We visited these spots and share all the details below – including which ones were surprisingly awesome and which were sort of meh. Plus, don’t miss our bonus “The Office” locations at the end of the blog!

Now, let’s get this party started!

Alfredo’s Pizza Café

1040 s. washington ave..

win the office tour

We all remember the argument in season 4’s “Launch Party” (or should I say “Lunch Party”?) about Alfredo’s Pizza Café versus Pizza by Alfredo. And while the latter is fictional, I can confidently attest to the delicious taste of a pepperoni slice from Alfredo’s Pizza Café.

It’s no wonder the employees were peeved at Michael for ordering the wrong pizza! Even its menu reminds you: It’s “home to ‘the good pizza’ as seen on The Office”.

During your tour of Scranton, be sure to add Alfredo’s to your list. It’s the perfect lunch spot, with plenty of options for everyone. Beyond pizza, they serve salads, wraps, burgers, subs, pasta, steak, seafood and more.

701 N. Washington Ave.

The “business/romantic” Cooper’s Seafood House was mentioned several times in the show, but was featured most prominently in season 5’s “Business Ethics” episode. Though the interior scenes were filmed in Los Angeles, the exterior shot was actually filmed on-site at the real Cooper’s.

Truthfully, I was most excited about visiting Cooper’s during our Scranton tour – not because of the food, but because it’s the only place in Scranton (surprisingly) that boasts a huge collection of “The Office” merchandise. You better believe we left with a bag full of totally necessary merch.

win the office tour

Plus, Cooper’s houses some incredible pop culture memorabilia, so even if you’re not a fan of “The Office”, you’ll have fun wandering the halls and marveling at all the treasures of yesteryear.

A favorite of the employees of Dunder Mifflin, Poor Richard’s is mentioned and featured in many episodes, most notably in “Cocktails”, “Local Ad”, “St. Patrick’s Day” and “A.A.R.M.” – the second-to-last episode of the series, in which the office employees head to the dive bar to watch the official airing of the documentary.

Unless you listen to the Office Ladies podcast or live in the Scranton area, it may come as a surprise that the real Poor Richard’s Pub is located inside a bowling alley (South Side Bowl). If you want any Poor Richard’s swaaaaaaag, be sure to stop in the bowling alley, where they have T-shirts and hoodies for sale.

The Marketplace at Steamtown

300 lackawanna ave..

win the office tour

Nobody loves the Steamtown Mall more than Kelly Kapoor. So, when Michael Scott takes the ladies to the mall in season 3’s “Women’s Appreciation”, it’s a dream come true for Kelly.

Mike and I, however, didn’t get as much enjoyment out of our visit to The Marketplace at Steamtown. Beyond the lure of its mention on “The Office”, there wasn’t anything extraordinary about it.

There is one benefit of visiting, though. It’s where the “Scranton Welcomes You” sign is located. The sign, which you see in the intro of each episode, was moved to the mall after causing too much disruption on the road – due to people stopping to take pictures with it.

Now on the second floor of the mall, the sign sits on AstroTurf in front of a printed screen of Scranton. Not quite the same as if it were outside, but it’s still a good photo op for “The Office” superfans!

win the office tour

Penn Paper Tower

215 vine st..

win the office tour

Even if you used to skip the intro on Netflix, the iconic image of the Dunder Mifflin tower still made its way onto your screen.

The first shot shown in the intro was apparently filmed by John Krasinski (Jim Halpert) during one of his early trips to Scranton, according to the Office Ladies. The footage made its way into the intro, becoming the backdrop to one of TV’s most recognizable theme songs.

The tower – actually home to the family-owned Pennsylvania Paper & Supply Company – isn’t far from The Marketplace at Steamtown, so you can walk there to take in the scenery, or drive if you’re pressed for time.

I love that the tower still features the Dunder Mifflin logo, even eight years after the show last aired!

Bonus “The Office” Locales

Electric city sign, 507 linden st. .

They call it Scranton! What?! The Electric City!

Even though this spot wasn’t featured in the show, it’s still a must-see for “The Office” fans. The sign lights up Scranton’s skyline at night, but even during the day, it will surely remind you of Michael’s “Lazy Scranton” employee orientation song.

Keep your eyes open for this easy-to-miss mural off the highway. It’s not really a must-see, but it’s worth snapping a photo as you drive by.

It’s a booze cruise!

Located just 40 minutes from Scranton is the famous Lake Wallenpaupack, where season 2’s “Booze Cruise” is set. If you have some time to spare, be sure to check it out. The lake is beautiful, and there’s a trail around it that offers scenic views – perfect for couples or families.

California? That’s a far way from Scranton.

OK, OK. This is by no means close to Scranton, but I had to include it! Before we got to see the real-life “The Office” locales, we stopped by the set for a quick photo while we were visiting LA .

And there you have it! While I wouldn’t recommend driving cross-country just to visit these spots, if you’re in the Poconos or surrounding area for a long weekend, add an afternoon in Scranton to your list.

If you can squeeze it in, you won’t regret it…

In the episode that Jim purchased his parents house for him & Pam without her knowing…. In the yard was the real estate sign for the reality company I worked for at that time. They really went out if their way to make the show feel authentic. And we all in the area would be like “oooh snap they just mentioned ” 😁

Wow! That’s so cool!! I love all the little details that went into making the show feel like it really was filmed in Scranton.

You need to update your location list to include the huge Dwight mural at On&On Antiques. I can email you a photo is you like. It’s a must see!

My family owns coopers and my Dad and uncles were really excited when they were approached about shooting for an episode at our restaurant. I took the day off from my job and sat at the bar from morning until night hoping to make into a background shot because we didn’t know if they were going to do interior or exterior shots. I found out they had come and gone after shooting only exterior shots, and I needed a ride home after sitting at the bar for 8 hours on a weekday. It was really cool to see my family’s restaurant on national TV, but unfortunately ticket to stardom didn’t come through.

That’s so awesome! Wow, what a legacy! Too bad you weren’t featured, but it makes for a great story 😄 Have you guys noticed an increase in business because of the show? I’m always so curious about that. Also, I just want to say that we LOVED the gift shop!

We’re so glad you found it helpful!!

I love this!! I live in central Indiana, and I am going to my graduation commencement at SNHU this May. We are driving so I reserved an overnight stay at Scranton on the way to Boston. We won’t have too much time there, but we are hitting up a lot of these locations on this article. Thank you!

That’s awesome!! I’m thrilled the article was helpful 🙂 An overnight stay should give you plenty of time to check out all these must-sees. But if you have to prioritize, I would say definitely go to Alfredo’s for pizza (ask the staff at the front desk if you can take a picture holding the “original” Alfredo’s pizza box!), snap some pictures of the Penn Paper tower, then check out the gift shop at Cooper’s. Have fun!!

Have made the journey to Scranton from Australia (via Canada)… I’ll be using this list tomorrow!!

Yay!! So glad it’ll be helpful on your trip! Enjoy every minute and definitely get some pizza at Alfredo’s 😊

Definitely would recommend it to any Office fan! A great experience, well worth it!

Thoroughly enjoyed it! They really did a lot with this exhibit, just when I thought I was at the end there was more to do and see, it was great!

My wife and I had a blast re-enacting scenes from our favorite show. The staff were great and we would definitely recommend.

Very organized, super friendly and helpful staff. Nicely interactive. Great experience.

Staff were friendly. Loved this experience! Will recommend to my friends. Thanks!

It was a nice experience I really liked the main office area it looked exactly like the office show layout. The dancing down the aisle for the wedding episode set up was a fun and a unique experience.

Environments that support cultural optimism and resilience, how to create a resilient workspace, the full spectrum workplace, beyond cubicles: crafting a ‘people first’ workplace, chair of the month.

Kate Tattersfield

From tripod positioning to maximizing natural light, these seven tips explain how to optimize your virtual office tour.

win the office tour

This article was originally published by Allwork.Space .

Virtual office tours are experiencing a boom, for obvious reasons. But the savviest operators were leveraging this technology way before the pandemic hit.

Known in the marketing world as ‘sticky content’, virtual tours engage prospective members by enabling them to experience your location without leaving your website. Sure, they’ll likely want to come see it in person too, but it means they will do so as a more ‘qualified’ prospect.

What is a Virtual Tour?

A virtual tour, also referred to as a 360 panoramic tour or 3D virtual tour, shouldn’t be confused with a video tour. Video tours are a very effective marketing tool but they differ in that they only allow website visitors to see the point of view of the presenter or videographer.

Virtual office tours, on the other hand, provide visitors with control over their perspective, enabling them to zoom in on features and explore at their own pace.

Panoramic tours are created using a series of photographs or videos taken from one vantage point. The camera’s lens rotates around the ‘no parallax point’ – the specific point at the back of the lens where the light converges.

There are lots of companies out there who can create a virtual office tour for you, so don’t be afraid to outsource. If you decide to have a go yourself, you’ll need a camera which can shoot 360° panoramic footage remotely and virtual tour software (or an app).

win the office tour

How to Optimize Your 360 Virtual Office Tour:

1. plan your virtual office tour shots.

Compose a list of the areas in your workspace you’d like to include in your virtual tour – private offices, coworking areas, breakout spaces, kitchens, roof terraces, etc. Find a vantage point in each area that will enable you to capture all of its features. You could use the centre of the room. Failing that, select a more convenient spot and mark it with tape.

2. Prepare each space

Once you’ve planned the camera positions in each area, it’s time to prepare the room for the recording.  Remove anything that will obstruct the camera’s view, tidy up by organising desks and chairs neatly and take anything that might distract the viewer out of the shot. People like to work in environments with lots of natural light, so be sure to open any blinds.

3. Level your tripod

For image consistency and to ensure straight angles, you’ll need to make sure your tripod is level in every shot. Your tripod might come with its own spirit level – simply adjust the legs until the bubble is in the middle. If it doesn’t, you can download a leveling app using your smartphone.

4. Practice your shots

Practice makes perfect, as the old saying goes. Before uploading your content, take practice shots of each part of your workspace and analyse them. The first thing to look out for is whether you can see your camera’s reflection in windows or mirrors.

If so, you’ll need to reposition your camera. Likewise, check for any distractions or darkness that will compromise the quality of your virtual office tour.

5. Take your photos

Once you’ve demo-ed your technology and framing, it’s time to get stuck in. Find the vantage point that you’ve marked out in each room, set up the tripod and take the pictures. You can check images as you go and retake photos before moving to the next area. It’s better to have a selection to choose from than too few.

6. Upload your photos

Use your chosen virtual tour software or app to connect the images together and complete your virtual office tour. You’ll have to upload your images and follow the prompts. Lots of programs enable you to optimize the viewers experience by adding features such as interactive links, audio descriptions, floor plans and music.

7. Share your virtual office tour

Embed the virtual tour into your website and share it across your social media channels. You can share a link to it in emails to any prospective members that come your way and you can also generate a QR code that links directly to the virtual tour when scanned.

Virtual Office Tour Examples

Staying up-to-date with the latest marketing and technology trends is important if you want to remain relevant in a competitive landscape.

Don’t be afraid to experiment and ask your peers for guidance when needed. Before embarking on your own virtual office tour journey, take a look at how other operators are utilizing the technology: check out Mindspace  in Bucharest and  Knotel , in London, for instance.

Needing Help to Stay in Power, Modi Loses His Aura of Invincibility

Though Narendra Modi will take up a third term as India’s leader, the election was closer than expected, forcing him to rely on coalition partners that don’t share his Hindu nationalist agenda.

Suddenly, the aura of invincibility around Narendra Modi has been shattered.

In an Indian election in which his party’s slogan had promised a landslide victory and Mr. Modi even repeatedly referred to himself as sent by God, the results announced on Tuesday were unexpectedly sobering.

Mr. Modi, 73, is set to take up a third consecutive term as prime minister, after the Election Commission gave final confirmation early Wednesday that the parties that make up his coalition had collectively passed the majority mark in Parliament. It is a feat that only one other Indian leader has accomplished, and his Bharatiya Janata Party, or B.J.P., won far more seats than any other party.

But instead of a runaway win, the B.J.P. lost dozens of seats. It now finds itself at the mercy of its coalition partners — including one politician notorious for how often he has switched sides — to stay in power, a sharp reversal a decade into Mr. Modi’s transformational tenure.

2024 India General Election: Live Results

See results and maps from India’s 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

As the results came into view, the country’s stock markets plunged. Opposition parties, newly unified in what they had called an effort to save the country’s democracy, rejoiced. And India, while extending Mr. Modi’s firm hold on power, learned that there are limits to his political potency, even as he made the election, usually fought seat by seat, squarely about himself.

Mr. Modi took a more positive view in a statement on X declaring that his coalition had won a third term. “This is a historical feat in India’s history,” he said.

People watch election returns on a large screen.

For Mr. Modi, a generous reading of the outcome could be that only with his personal push could his party overcome its unpopularity at the local level and scrape by. Or it could be that his carefully cultivated brand has now peaked, and that he can no longer outrun the anti-incumbency sentiment that eventually catches up with almost any politician.

How Mr. Modi will react is uncertain — whether he will harden his effort to turn away any challenge to his power, or be chastened by the voters’ verdict and his need to work with coalition partners that do not share his Hindu-nationalist ideology.

“Modi is not known as a consensual figure. However, he is very pragmatic,” said Arati Jerath, a political analyst based in New Delhi. “He will have to moderate his hard-line Hindu-nationalist approach to issues. Perhaps we can hope for more moderation from him.”

Few doubt, however, that Mr. Modi will try to deepen his already considerable imprint on the country over the next five years.

On his watch, India, the world’s most populous nation, has enjoyed newfound prominence on the global stage, overhauled its infrastructure for the needs of its 1.4 billion people, and been imbued with a new sense of ambition as it tries to shed the legacy of its long colonial past.

At the same time, Mr. Modi has worked to turn a vastly diverse country held together by a secular democratic system into an overtly Hindu-first state, marginalizing the country’s large Muslim minority.

His increasingly authoritarian turn — with a crackdown on dissent that has created a chilling environment of self-censorship — has pushed India’s vociferous democracy closer to a one-party state, his critics say. And the country’s economic growth, while rapid, has mostly enriched those at the top.

Mr. Modi rose from a humble background as the son of a tea seller, becoming India’s most powerful and popular leader in decades by building a cult of personality, spending big on infrastructure and welfare, and tilting India’s democratic institutions in his favor.

The ultimate goal was to cement his standing as one of the most consequential prime ministers in India’s nearly 75 years as a republic and make the B.J.P. the country’s only plausible national governing force.

But the results on Tuesday pointed to a sharp turnaround for India’s beleaguered main opposition party, the Indian National Congress, which had been seen by many as irrevocably weakened after big losses in the previous two elections.

The once-dominant Congress, long positioned at India’s political center, struggled for years to find a direction and offer an ideological alternative to the B.J.P. But it and its coalition partners found traction in this election by attacking Mr. Modi’s government over issues like unemployment, social justice and the prime minister’s ties to India’s billionaires.

Last year, as Rahul Gandhi, the public face of the Congress party, sought to burnish his standing by leading long marches across India, the B.J.P. ensnared him in a court case that led to his expulsion from Parliament . He was later returned to his seat by India’s highest court, and was set to win re-election on Tuesday.

Speaking as early returns came in, Mr. Gandhi, 53, said the fight was not just against the B.J.P. It was also, he said, against all the government institutions that had stood with Mr. Modi in trying to hamstring the opposition through arrests and other punitive actions.

“This was about saving the Constitution,” he said, lifting a small copy that he had been carrying with him and displaying during speeches on the campaign trail.

Exit polls released on Saturday , after more than six weeks of voting in the world’s largest democratic exercise, indicated that Mr. Modi’s party was headed toward an easy victory. But there had been signs during the campaign that Mr. Modi was worried about the outcome .

He crisscrossed the country for more than 200 rallies over about two months and gave dozens of interviews, hoping to use his charismatic appeal to paper over any weaknesses in his party. In speeches, he often veered from his party’s message of a rising India to counter accusations that he privileged business and caste elites. He also abandoned his once-subtle dog whistles targeting India’s 200 million Muslims, instead demonizing them directly , by name.

As things stood by nightfall, Mr. Modi would need at least 33 seats from allies to cross the 272 minimum for forming a government.

Two regional parties in particular would be kingmakers: the Telugu Desam Party, in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, with 16 seats, and the Janata Dal (United) party in the eastern state of Bihar, with 12.

Both parties are avowedly secular, raising hopes among Mr. Modi’s opponents that their influence could slow down his race to turn India’s democracy into a Hindu-first state.

Some of Mr. Modi’s biggest losses came in India’s most populous state, Uttar Pradesh in the north, with about 240 million people. His party leads the state government and had won 62 of the state’s 80 seats in the national Parliament’s lower house in the previous election, in 2019.

As counting entered its last stretch in the evening on Tuesday, the B.J.P. was leading in only 33 seats there. In his own constituency, Varanasi, Mr. Modi’s victory margin was reduced from half a million last time to about 150,000.

The loss in Faizabad constituency, in particular, told the story of how some of the prime minister’s biggest offerings had struggled to connect with voters.

The constituency is home to the lavish Ram temple in Ayodhya, built on grounds disputed between Hindus and Muslims. Its construction was a cornerstone of the nearly century-old Hindu-nationalist movement that had swept Mr. Modi to power. He hoped that its grand inauguration just before the election campaign began would both unite his Hindu support base and bring new supporters into the fold.

Some B.J.P. workers said that the party’s flaunting of the temple may have made a large section of Hindus at the bottom of the rigid caste hierarchy uncomfortable. The opposition had painted Mr. Modi as pursuing an upper-caste agenda that denied underprivileged Hindus opportunities to reverse centuries of oppression.

“Because of overemphasis on the Ram temple issue, the opposition got united,” said Subhash Punia, 62, a farmer from the state of Rajasthan who supports Mr. Modi and was waiting outside the B.J.P. headquarters in Delhi on Tuesday.

To offset potential losses in his Hindi-speaking northern stronghold, Mr. Modi had set a lofty goal for this election: to gain a foothold in the country’s more prosperous south.

He broke some new ground in Kerala, a state dominated by the political left and long hostile to his ideology. But overall in the south, he struggled to improve on the 29 seats, out of 129, that his party had won in the previous election.

Perhaps the biggest disappointment for the B.J.P. in southern India was that it once again appeared not to have won any of the 40 seats in Tamil Nadu, a state with its own strong cultural and linguistic identity.

Mr. Modi had campaigned aggressively there, even visiting one coastal town for two days of meditation as the voting neared its conclusion.

“Mr. Modi’s and the B.J.P.’s antics cannot win my Tamil heart,” said S. Ganesan, a waiter at a hotel in Kanniyakumari, the town Mr. Modi visited.

Is Trump guilty or not? Acquitted or convicted, he wins no matter what.

Even a jail sentence is a win. what image could better validate trump's insistence of this being a sham trial run by a kangaroo court than serving time.

Made up of a dash of experience, a dollop of knowledge and a scoop of guesswork, political predictions are for suckers and I am no sucker. So instead, I make guarantees. My latest can’t-possibly-be-wrong, take-it-to-the-bank guarantee? Donald Trump will win in 2024 and there is nothing you can do to stop him. In fact, he will win twice.

Here’s my case: Good news travels fast and bad news travels faster. No one excels at leveraging and manipulating this environment better than Trump. Say it faster than the other side, with more conviction and confidence than Muhammad Ali in his heyday, and half the country will buy what’s being sold.

When good news arrives, Trump rallies the faithful ‘round the flag and equates his victory to a historical figure or event, say, Nelson Mandela or storming the beach at Normandy. When the news is less than rosy, he pounces like a puma and spits in the face of defeat to spin a self-gratifying tale of victory without shame. Unlike the stock market, past performance does in this case predict future results.

We will next see this play out in the coming days as Trump, whether acquitted or convicted by a jury of his peers in his New York criminal trial, wins in the courtroom.

Trump's verdict is coming. But judge him on the horrible things he's doing right now.

Trump will win, win or lose

The best-case scenario – acquittal – would be portrayed by Trump as sweet, sweet vindication against every harsh word that has ever been said about him. Every accusation, every indictment, all the cases yet to be tried, would be washed away. If this one is wrong, they must all be wrong. Right? No? Maybe?

A conviction , on the other hand, rather than serving as vindication of what has been said about and done to him, would be validation of what he’s been saying about others. It would prove, just like he said from behind the court's bike rack twice a day, every day ( except Wednesdays ) that the judge was conflicted, the jurors tainted by ideology and the outcome preordained by a U.S. Department of Justice weaponizing its prosecutorial authority to damage a political opponent amid a campaign.

Even a jail sentence is a win. What image could better validate Trump’s insistence of this being a sham trial run by a kangaroo court than serving time in jail? A jumpsuit did wonders for Martha Stewart and it would do wonders for Trump, too.

His second guaranteed win will come in November. Do I know that Trump will have the most Electoral College votes when the race is called? Not at all. But I do know he’s going to win so bigly that I can see it from here in May.

Trump's next win will follow the 2024 election

Like acquittal in court, capturing the Electoral College and re-residing in the White House would be vindication. It would vindicate those who fervently believe Joe Biden is an illegitimate president and Trump has been the rightful president this whole time.

Think that’s far-fetched? Why else has Trump’s campaign referred to him as “the president” and Joe Biden as simply “Joe Biden” in statements and correspondence?

Trump trial evidence: Trump's hush money trial reveals his sordid, cynical manipulations behind the scenes

The inverse outcome, in which Trump’s third Oval Office quest falls short, would to an objective observer be a loss. But not for Trump. This would be a huge win − on par with actually winning − for it brings validation.

Close your eyes and you can hear it now: the process is rigged, our institutions are failing us, the world is out to get Trump and by extension you. Validated. Validated. Validated.

In closing, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, remorse and reflection are the antithesis of the Trump code. He is, after all, a winner and winners never apologize for being winners. They just keep on winning even when they lose.

So when the verdict is read and Trump’s face displays a grimace or a grin, know that behind that grimace is a grin and behind that grin a bigger grin because Trump knows he already won.
