Fresh water dolphins.

River dolphins are scarcely known, and hardly seen by many humans. Freshwater dolphins live only in the Amazon River and parts of Asia including the Ganges, India’s sacred and longest river.

Under enormous threat from commercial fishing and pollution, the river dolphins act as a barometer of river health in basins where they live. Along with sea turtles and sharks, these dolphins are some of the oldest creatures on earth.

The Wildlifer’s choice of Safari

Kamchatka, a land of volcanoes and brown bears is a beautiful and a very rare site. 19 of these volcanoes constitute the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its fish laden rivers are a huge attraction for around 220 species of birds, several animals and Anglers. The Kamchatka Peninsula has 5 National Parks, 3 state reserves, 8 reserves and 105 natural sites amongst other protected areas. The best time to visit Kamchatka is between June and September with maximum temperatures upto 30 degress celcius. Regions of interest here are the Kronotsky Nature Resrve, which also consists of the Valley of Geysers, the Komandarsky Nature Reserve, Nalychevo, Southern Kamchutka, Bystrinsky, Kluchevskoy and Blue Lakes Nature Parks and Koryaksky Zapovednik known for its Brown Bear sightings.

A beautiful tree less and virgin Kamchutka region is the Commander islands. Commander Islands also known as Komandorskiye Ostrova are a group of four islands, namely Bering, Medny and the islets of Kaman and Toporkov and are located the Russian Far East. Our region of interest for wildlife is the Bering Islands. The islands were named after Commander Vitus Bering after his boat, St. Peter, wrecked there in 1741. One-third of the crew including Bering died on the island. Georg Wilhelm Steller, the ship's physician, botanist and mineralogist, survived the severe cold and winter and left scientific descriptions of the fur seal, sea otter, eagle, sea lion and sea cow, all of which bear his name. The islands were the last home of the Steller's sea cow, which was hunted to extinction by 1769, only 27 years after its discovery. The highlight of course of the islands is the Northern Fur Seals that appear in late April after hibernation.

By Air is the only way to reach Kamchatka. The airport Elyzovo is located 20 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the only city in the Kamchatka Peninsula. There are regular flights between Petropavovsk-Kamchatsky and: Moscow (Aeroflot, Transaero), Saint Petersburg (Rossiya),Novosibirsk (S7, Rossiya), Irkutsk (S7, Yakutia Airlines), Khabarovsk (Yakutia Airlines, S7, SAT Airlines), and Vladivostok (S7, Aeroflot). Yakutia Airlines provides seasonal summer service between Anchorage, Alaska, and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in July and August.

2,70,000 sq.km.

Kamchatka is home to the largest populations of Brown Bears, Stellar’s Sea Eagles and Wild Salmon. Other land mammals include Otters, muskrat, Kamchatka Sable, lynx, moose, polar wolf, fox and weasel. Bird species include Golden Eagle, Falcon, Osprey Hawk owl, Puufins, Cormorants and Guillemots. Sea animals include the Seals, Otters, Sea Lions and the Rare Gray Whale.

Lake Baikal meaning “rich lake” in Turkish is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of our favourite destinations in Russia. This holy Lake is the biggest and deepest fresh water lake in the World! The lake is also known for its clear and fresh water and its seals. It is encompassed by the Taiga Forests and the Nordic Steppes. This lake is also one of the oldest lakes dating to around 25 million years. The Olkhon(largest island on the lake), Baikal Mountains, the Angara River(the outflow of the Lake Baikal) is a huge attraction for animal, birds and the wildlifer alike.

Irkutsk is the nearest airport and domestic flights operate from Moscow, Khabarovsk,Vladivostok, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Magadan, Yakutsk, Yekaterinburg, Saint Petersburg and Sochi. From Irkutsk one can either take a bus or taxi to Listvyanka (on the lake) and then further take a boat to go to Bolshoie koty in the Baikal National Park One can reach the lake by train as well. Trans Siberian Railway and Baikal Amur Mainline are two major operators. Trains can be taken from Irkutsk station to Port Baykal or Listvyanka.

31,722 sq. km.

This Rich Lake Baikal is home to some endemic and non endemic species like the Siberian deer, bear, seals(Baikal seal is the only seal that lives in fresh water), reindeer, elk, marmot, wolves and foxes. A rich population of birds include the white tailed and long tailed sea eagles, black crane, black stork and several swans and falcons.

Altai Mountains

wildlife safaris contact

This region is a wildlifer’s and photographer’s delight with a whopping wild 7000 lakes, snowcapped mountains and impassable Tiaga forests. It is located in Southern Siberia bordered by Mongolia, Kazkhstan and China. The name "Altai" or "Altay" has in the Mongolian languaget means "golden".

This region can truly be measured in gold with its Rich Nature and Topography teeming with wildlife. High peaked mountains, glaciers, mineral and hot springs are other attractions besides wildlife viewing. The highest mountain of the Altai is the Bulekha at 4506m. Summer months are between May to September and is the best time to visit the region.

The closest international airport to Altai is located in Novosibirsk, which is approximately 300 kilometers away, and offers the best connections for flights to Altai. The other and most convenient way to get to Altai is to take a plane from Moscow to Barnaul and then take a bus or personal mini-bus to Gorno-Altaisk. Altai can also be reached by train from Moscow, but the journey is long and tedious but fairly cheap

Places To Visit For Safari In Russia

The World Wildlife Safari in Russia is world famous. People come from all over the world to visit the safari in Russia as it is an excellent attraction of Russia. There are many species of animals which a person could get to see only in the Safari Park in Russia.

1.The Safari Park of Russia

The Safari Park of Russia

When we talk about the safari parks, then the first destination which comes in a person’s mind is the Safari park in Russia. The park is divided into three different areas. These different areas are:-

  • Siberian Tigers and hoofed animals
  • Birds and wild animals of Primorye
  • Amur leopard Park.

The park offers shelter to the different species of animals and treatment is provided to these animals in case of injury or any accidental situations. After taking care of them, they will be left in the forests to live their rest of life. Living conditions are similar to the conditions in the forests.

There are various animals which are visible in this safari like Siberian Tigers, Amur Tigers, wild boars and many species of deer like Sika deer, Roe deer, and Red deer. There are some rare existing animals also like Amur or Far-Eastern Leopard which are on the verge of extinction, and there are only 50 of these species alive on this planet.

Despite the immense size of Russia, the majority of the country experiences two seasons – summer and winter – that implies that timing your visit is straightforward. Walkers watch polar bears walking icecaps, can cross stretches of tundra sunlight themselves and also ascend sand slopes – all at precisely exactly the nation. A brief interchange is between summer and winter, and that is due to substantial and extremely low temperatures. Summer gives the chance of planting wildlife at the Far East of Russia, while birdlife fills the heavens and also the salmon run turns the oceans reddish together with sparks emerging from hibernation to split the property together with reindeer, wolves, and moose.

There is a specified time to visit any place. Similarly, there is a particular time, and one should know when to go to Russia on safari. According to people, winter is the best time to visit safari in Russia. In the winter season, there is snowfall, and the whole place gets covered with snow. Due to this reason, people could find the footprints of the Siberian Tiger very easily while if a person visits in the summer season, then it would be very difficult to get a glimpse of the rare Siberian Tiger.

2. Durminskoye Reserve of Siberia

Durminskoye Reserve of Siberia

Best time: November – March

The tiger tracking shore at the Durminskoye Reserve of Siberia occurs at the depths of winter close Khabarovsk, a city in the south-west corner of Russia. Accompanying tracker Alexander Batalov, you’re going to be involved in conservation work leading to the Tigers’ breeding season. Employed at the snow and freezing temperatures – for maintaining the ones paw prints needed – that safari is for its intrepid adventurer. Researching the creatures’ sprawling habitat from the foot, ski-doo and 4×4, your odds of visiting the biggest of all big cats at the flesh could be lean, however by putting up remote camera cubes and assisting Alexander in tracking the spot, you’re going to be causing the security and continuing success of these creatures that are endangered creatures, that can number as much as 400 from the great outdoors.

3. Kamchatka

Kamchatka

Best time: May – September

Despite lying latitudes to the UK, the Kamchatka Peninsula occupies long winters on account of this effect of Arctic winds and also sea currents, leaving the property. The weeks between May and September offer the temperatures. However, the sheer size of Kamchatka means its climate is changeable based on the area of the visit. Generally, people can think about highs which range from 15 to 20 °C together with lows hitting below freezing, through summer time.

Kamchatka might possibly be larger than the UK; however, its own inhabitants figures only 330,000 people, nearly all of whom reside in its tip at the main city of Petropavlovsk. As a result of huge tracts of un-developed tundra which lie between its populations’ centers, helicopters are the easiest solution. When shooting into the heavens even, it might be well worth packing lots of layers. When temperatures could drop to as little as -25 °C, Kamchatka bears hibernate throughout the months. Despite going at November in their dens and emerging March, the ideal time to find these beasts is to coincide with the yearly salmon conduct that does occur in rivers throughout and streams around the world. This time offers an ideal chance to set off on a fishing adventure to the bears. Kurile Lake in special can be a prime locale for seeing those two wonders encounter.

The season of Peak birdwatching is from May to early June, and the Commander Islands is one of the best locations for sighting the seabirds. There are also Steller’s sea lions and Kamchatka brown bears also visible during this time. This collection of 17 islands and rocks is found 100 miles away from the eastern shore, which implies cooler summers than people enjoyed on Kamchatka, but additionally creates the Hawaiian Islands home of colonies of Kamchatka. Puffins, auklets, albatross, and cormorants are found in great amounts, while sightings of this Steller’s sea eagle – boasting a wingspan up – is guaranteed to become a highlight of every trip to Moscow

Start Planning your Adventure

Our team have lived, worked and travelled across the globe, and together we have the requisite knowledge and experience to plan the perfect safari for you. "Specialist" tour operators are not so specialist anymore in today's day and age, but we believe our wildlife-centred approach is unequalled in the industry. Our salespeople aren't salespeople - they're Destination Specialists, each one an expert in the regions that they work with - and the trips we create are designed to bring you as close to the natural world as possible.

Travel through the remote russian countryside  .

Undoubtably one of the most well-known train journeys in the world, the Trans-Siberian Express runs like a ribbon of steel through the remote Russian countryside connecting Moscow in the east to Vladivostok in the west. This impressive feat of engineering spans 9,259 kilometres (5,752 miles) and to travel its length is the epic journey of a lifetime. There are a few different routes to choose from, and the total number of days to complete the journey also varies.

One route travels through the remote Mongolian desert and stops in the capital, Ulaan Baatar. Once the very centre of an enormous empire led by Genghis Khan, Mongolia is famed for its beautiful landscapes, nomadic people and fascinating history. The country is also famous for its endless green Steppes and the white Gers (Yurts) of nomadic herders.

Natural Focus offers several rail departures exploring this remarkable region. The luxury train accommodates a maximum capacity in Russia of 100 passengers, although many departures operate with smaller numbers. Travellers can be assured of a superb rail experience and guests can expect first class service, elegant surroundings, fine dining, and the comforts and privacy of their own well-appointed ensuite cabins.

Trans Siberian Bar Lounge

Bar Lounge Car

When not out on an excursion or enjoying the view from the window of your private cabin, the perfect place to relax, unwind and meet fellow travellers is in the Bar Lounge Car. This is the social heart of the Trans-Siberian Express and the place where many fabulous memories will be made. Chat to fellow guests about the day’s adventures over a drink or play a game of cards with new-found friends before dinner.

Throughout your journey, the Bar Lounge Car and Restaurant Car will play host to several entertaining activities, such as lectures on local history and culture or even Russian language lessons. Information sessions about arrival and departure times and daily itineraries will also be given here.

The Restaurant Car

Each day, guests can make their way to the Restaurant Car for a superb continental breakfast buffet along with hot tea or coffee. For a hearty cooked breakfast, passengers can order from the onboard chef. Lunches and dinners are also served in the Restaurant Car and guests can expect a culinary experience inspired by the countries they are travelling through, and quality international cuisine. All meals are created from fresh, locally sourced ingredients, prepared by the skilful Executive Chef and the onboard team. Vegetarian and other dietary options are also available. Expert service and an excellent choice of wines accompany all lunches and dinners, as well as bottled mineral water, draught beer and soft drinks. An informal dress code applies throughout the journey.

Trans Siberian

Trans-Siberian Express (Eastbound)

15 days/14 nights

Embark on one of the world’s greatest railway adventures – The Trans-Siberian Express – running from Moscow to Vladivostok. This bucket-list 15 day/14 night itinerary passes through Russian cities including Kazan, Novosibirsk and Irkutsk as well as the capital of Mongolia, Ulaan Baatar on its epic journey east. Along the way, experience superb hospitality, get to know your fellow travellers, and enjoy an array of fascinating off-train excursions.

Moscow, Russia

On arrival at Moscow Airport, you will be met and transferred to the stylish Four Seasons Hotel Moscow. Located in the historic building of Moskva Hotel – and occupying one of the most enviable addresses in the very heart of Moscow – the hotel is a short walk from major sights including the Kremlin, Red Square and the Bolshoi Theatre.

On your first evening in the city, you will be invited to a champagne drinks reception before an exclusive Welcome Dinner. Guests can enjoy specially selected international wines that are included with dinner, as with all meals during the tour. D

Moscow Russia

This morning, enjoy a guided tour of Moscow taking in the capital’s best sights. Witness the grandeur of the Kremlin – the spiritual, historical and political heart of Moscow – including an exclusive private viewing of the Armoury Chamber that houses the treasures of the Tsars.

Visit Red Square – the symbol of Russia’s former military and political might – with its iconic architecture, including the ornate, onion-domes of St Basil’s Cathedral, and the beautiful facade of the famous GUM department store, built during Tsarist times.

Enjoy lunch at Café Pushkin, a legendary Moscow restaurant serving traditional Russian cuisine whose décor revives the atmosphere of an early 19th century mansion. Guests will also visit the extravagantly decorated underground stations of the Moscow metro – furnished with statues, frescoes and mosaics showcasing Socialist art.

If travellers have been to Moscow before and seen many of the key highlights mentioned above, an alternative tour is possible exploring sights such as the famous State Tretyakov Gallery (National Museum of Fine Art) or the Space Museum (subject to opening times).

In the late afternoon, arrive at Moscow Kazansky Station and be greeted in the ornately decorated Imperial Waiting Room with a cold glass of Russian Champagne and canapés, as you mix with the other guests and welcomed by staff. Approximately 30 minutes before departure, you will be escort to Platform 1 to board the Golden Eagle. B L D

Today, explore the picturesque and historic city of Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan situated on the River Volga. Discover the city’s rich tapestry of history and culture, including exploring the legendary Kremlin Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Within the walls of this ancient citadel is the stunning mosque, with its picture-perfect onion-domed cathedral.

Kazan is also the birthplace of one of Russia’s most famous opera singers, Feodor Chaliapin (1873-1938). Honouring his memory, enjoy a private concert of his music. There will also be time to wander through the main pedestrian area of Kazan and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the city. B L D

Yekaterinburg

Yekaterinburg, founded in 1723 by Peter the Great, is the capital of the Urals. The Ural Mountains (known as the Great Divide) create a natural border between Europe and Asia. The cultural and architectural influences of European and Asian civilisations come together in this fascinating and cosmopolitan landscape.

Your city tour explores the famous site where the Romanov, Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, was executed with his family by the Bolsheviks in 1918 following 78 days of imprisonment. Now a church dedicated to their memory, this site provides a powerful insight into the turmoil of the Russian Revolution. The tour will also visit the obelisk marking the geographical border – where you can drink a glass of champagne with one foot in Europe and the other in Asia.

Time permitting, there may be a chance to visit the recently opened Museum of Military Machinery. The museum houses a truly fascinating collection of military vehicles, such as tanks, aircraft, boats and even armoured trains. The museum is a must visit for anyone interested in Soviet history. Alternatively, make a short stop at the recently opened Boris Yeltsin Presidential Centre, which is dedicated to the contemporary political history of Russia and its first president. B L D

Novosibirsk

This morning’s stop is the modern ‘Soviet’ city of Novosibirsk, where you can experience the life and character of the city’s rich culture. Located in the heart of Russia, the city is situated on both banks of the River Ob.

Today’s explorations take guests to Lenin Square where the imposing Opera House (an architectural marvel) is located. One of the largest opera houses in the world, the building housing two permanent ballet and opera companies. In front of the Opera House there is also an impressive statue of Lenin.

Time permitting, south of the city, visit Novosibirsk’s excellent Railway Museum – displaying an impressive array of locomotives and rolling stock from the late 1800s (including carriages of the Tsars) through to the Soviet era. Alternatively, guests might also have the chance to visit the Mineralogical Centre with its fine display of Siberian minerals. B L D

Enjoy life onboard this splendid train today. Unwind and reflect on the many sights and sounds you have experienced on your journey so far. Chat to your fellow passengers over a drink in Bar Lounge Car, learn a few words of Russian or enjoy the ever-changing landscape from the comforts of your cabin. B L D

Today, explore Irkutsk – sometimes known as the ‘Paris of Siberia’ – and take in this fascinating city’s best highlights. Tour highlights include the classic wooden architecture with its intricately carved lace-like decorations. This architectural decoration has given many of this region’s buildings a distinctive and unique appearance.

You will also visit the Volkonsky House Museum, dedicated to the memory of the aristocrats who were exiled to this remote outpost after the failed Decembrist uprising of 1825. Enjoy a champagne reception and private concert.

Alternatively, learn to cook some traditional Russian dishes with a local chef and prepare your own lunch, or visit a traditional Russian Dacha (summer country house) and gain an insight into the everyday life of a Russian family. B L D

Lake Baikal

Few natural sights can surpass the beauty and grandeur of Lake Baikal, a major highlight on your Trans-Siberian journey. Also known as the ‘Pearl of Siberia’, this enormous lake is the deepest in the world and holds roughly 20 per cent of the world’s freshwater. If that isn’t impressive enough, it is also home to a unique breed of freshwater seal and over 50 species of fish.

For approximately 5 hours today’s rail journey winds through tunnels and along cliff hugging tracks above the lake. This breath-taking section of rail – engineered in the early 20th century – boasts plenty of impressive vistas including snow-capped peaks along the far shore that form a picture-perfect backdrop. To top things off, the train will be hauled by a Soviet Era steam locomotive on this beautiful section of line.

Weather permitting, stop in one of the most picturesque locations by the lake for photographs and, for the brave hearted, a refreshing swim in the crystal clear and ice-cold waters of Lake Baikal. At the end of the Baikal branch line, disembark the train and travel by boat on the lake to Listvyanka, a small settlement nestled at the base of the surrounding hills. Here, guests will visit the Lake Baikal Museum and Aquarium and learn about the fascinating flora and fauna of the lake.

Alternatively, guests may choose to hike up Chersky Mount or take the chair lift, which offers some spectacular, panoramic hillside views of the lake below. Instead of lunch on the train, enjoy a delicious lakeside barbecue prepared by your onboard chefs under a covered dining area, featuring freshly smoked omul fish. B L D

Today, discover the ethnic and cultural diversity of Ulan Ude, the capital of the Buryat Republic, that offers a unique insight into its heritage.

As you explore the area, you will notice the different faces of the welcoming Buryat people. During your exploration of the Old Believers’ Village, you can learn about the culture and history of these religious people and are treated to a concert featuring local traditions and folk singing. B L D

Ulaan Baatar

Your Trans-Siberian adventure takes you into Mongolia and a visit to its incredible capital – Ulaan Baatar – once the very centre of an enormous empire led by Genghis Khan. Mongolia is a vast country of beautiful landscapes and nomadic people, rich in culture and history, and famous for its endless green Steppes, grazing livestock and the white Gers (Yurts) of nomadic herders.

Today’s tour starts at Gandan Monastery, one of Mongolia’s most important Buddhist monasteries, home to a community of some 500 monks. The monastery’s full name – Gandantegchinlen – translates as ‘the great place of complete joy.’ Your next stop is Chinggis Square (formerly Sukhbaatar Square), where travellers can see the central monument to Genghis Khan.

Heading out of the city, drive to Gorkhi-Terelj National Park and witness the beautiful scenery of wild Mongolia. There is the opportunity to visit a traditional Ger and meet a nomadic family or to try your hand at horse-riding, an essential part of Mongolian life.

Alternatively, there is an option to stay in the city and explore it in greater depth. Take a tour of the National Museum where you can learn about the country’s intriguing past. You will also see Bogd Khan Winter Palace Museum (built between 1893 and 1903), the winter residences of Bogd Khan, the last Mongolian emperor. There may also be some free time for shopping for Mongolian souvenirs and enjoy a performance of traditional Mongolian throat singing and contortionists. B L D

Please note:  Depending on final timings provided by the railway authorities the railway journey from Russia into Ulaan Baatar may have to be substituted with a private jet charter from Irkutsk or Ulan Ude, so that the train can maintain the advertised programme for Mongolia.

Enjoy a more leisurely pace today as the train passes through the beautiful landscape of the Russian Far East. If they wish, guests can attend one of the interesting lectures or Russian language lessons. B L D

Today offers another chance to relax onboard or practice your Russian, as the train follows the Shilka and Amur rivers, close to the Chinese border. Enjoy Russia at its most dramatic and remote. B L D

The train passes directly north of Seoul, Darwin and Osaka today, the last full day on board. You will also reach the most easterly point of this mammoth journey, passing through Khabarovsk, where the train crosses the River Amur. Tonight, enjoy a final dinner on board that has been your home for the last twelve days, the Golden Eagle slowly approaches the final destination of this unforgettable journey. B L D

Vladivostok

Vladivostok is a military port located on the western shores of the Sea of Japan and is home to the Russian Navy’s Pacific Fleet. Due to its military importance, the city was closed to foreigners between 1930 and 1992. Vladivostok (literally  ‘Ruler of the East’) offers visitors an interesting opportunity to explore its principal military attractions including a visit to a preserved World War Two submarine. Our city tour will also take us to the iconic suspension bridge over Golden Horn Bay, one of the largest of its kind worldwide, which opened in 2012 for the APEC conference.

This evening you are invited to our farewell dinner. Specially selected international wines are included with dinner, as with all meals during the tour. Our hotel in Vladivostok, where we stay for one night, is the five-star Lotte Hotel Vladivostok. B L D

Following breakfast, the remainder of your time in Vladivostok is at your leisure, before being transferred to the airport for your onward flight. Tour ends. B

Nature Documentaries are often highly edited to tell a story, wildlife safaris are not, and the idea here is to show the wildlife sightings the way they were seen. Safari tours in Africa are generally suitable for all ages and this channel can be considered an educational channel about incredible nature, some scenes in the nature videos may be more graphic than people are used to but this is the reality of nature and is what you would see if you were present on such a safari in person. Safaris in Kenya, South Africa, or any other African country are an unrivalled experience for anyone with a passion for nature, wildlife photography, and travel.
