Dynamic Gold X100 Review – Specs, Flex, Weight

true temper gold tour issue x100

The True Temper Dynamic Gold X100 shaft is one of the “Tour Issue” shafts in the Dynamic Gold line.

It is made for the experienced and discerning golfer who can notice slight differences in golf club shaft weight.

The Dynamic Gold X100 has been used to great success on the PGA Tour by some of the best players in the world. But does it have anything to offer the everyday golfer? We wanted to see for ourselves so we took our testing team, which consists of both mid and low handicap players, to the links to see how they handled the Dynamic Gold X100.

Dynamic Gold X100 Overview

The Dynamic Gold X100 is a tour-weighted steel shaft ideal for irons.

For the most part, you will need a pretty fast swing to unlock the distance potential that these shafts bring to the table. We’ve heard people say that they have seen players use the Dynamic Gold X100 shafts very poorly, usually citing wide shot dispersion.

After our testing, we have come to the conclusion that erratic shot dispersion is usually the fault of the player and not so much the shaft. How you load and unload the shaft will have a lot to do with how the Dynamic Gold X100 performs. If you have a deliberate tempo, it’s understandable that shot dispersion and distance will be erratic.

Overall, the Dynamic Gold X100 produces a low launch and has a high kick point – a tandem that will surely appeal to better players with fast swing speeds and at least a  moderate tempo.

Why is Dynamic Gold So Popular?

Probably because these shafts are in the bags of tons of pros.

They are also a very common sight in professional fittings. The Dynamic Gold Tour Issue series of shafts, which consists of the Dynamic Gold X100 and the Dynamic Gold S400 are a bit on the heavier side so they appeal to faster swing speed players who are looking for more stability at impact.

Aside from performance, True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts are likely so popular because of the technology and features that go into them. They all feature a firm tip and variable wall technology. These features give the player an incredible amount of club head control – you can really feel the high level of control when you swing. Pros, amateurs and casual players alike have found that the Dynamic Gold series of shafts is ideal for iron play.

How Does the Dynamic Gold X100   Perform?

Almost every tester in our party noted a low, piercing trajectory with the Dynamic Gold X100.

The low handicap testers in our group (all hovering around the 90-96 MPH swing speed mark) were getting very tight shot dispersion. Our mid handicappers also noticed tight shot dispersion; but less consistently.

They mentioned that they can feel when the shaft was loaded awkwardly and that it was on those shots that dispersion was poor. About half of our low handicap testers noted that they were getting about 4 yards of extra difference on average with the Dynamic Gold X100 fitted on their 5-irons.

“Accuracy” was an adjective that we heard over and over again from our testers. These shafts seem to be made for short iron and wedge play. Again, the Dynamic Gold X100 shaft has a high kick point so you are going to gain some ball speed and distance from the low trajectory launch – if you have enough club head speed to counteract the weight of this shaft.

Overall, the Dynamic Gold X100 performed extremely well in  terms of distance and short game accuracy.

Dynamic Gold X100 Shaft Specs Table

What flexes are available what swing speed do they suit.

The Dynamic Gold X100 is a Tour Issue shaft so it is only available in extra stiff flex.

You will need a swing speed between about 88 and 98 MPH at least to get the full distance benefits from this shaft.

What Weights Are Available? What Swing Speed Do They Suit?

The Dynamic Gold X100 is only available in a 130 gram version which actually isn’t the heaviest Dynamic Gold shaft in the line (see the Dynamic Gold S400).

Again, you will need a swing speed in the mid to upper 90’s to counteract the weight and get the intended launch. A moderate to fast tempo will also help.

Why is it So Good?

The Dynamic Gold X100 is great for low handicap players seeking better stability for their high club head speed.

It affords faster swingers the accuracy they need on the fairway and around the pin.

Dynamic Gold X100 First Impressions

true temper gold tour issue x100

We actually thought the Dynamic Gold X100 was lighter than 130 grams. It doesn’t feel much heavier than other Dynamic Gold shafts we’ve tested; but then again, none of us are hypersensitive players.

The strength of this shaft is really outstanding. It imparts excellent flight control and stability to the player.

Dynamic Gold X100 Wedges Review

Who Should Buy it?

The Dynamic Gold X100 shaft is clearly for low handicap to scratch players.

Even our mid handicap testers had a bit of trouble loading the Dynamic Gold X100 for tight shot dispersion. But if you have a fast swing speed and at least a moderate tempo, you will love the distance and accuracy of this shaft.

Updated February 2024 to update current pricing information.

True Temper Dynamic Gold is one of the most familiar iron and wedge shafts in the golf industry. Played by the majority of tour golfers including Tiger Woods, the Dynamic Golf Tour Issue line of shafts from True Temper is a tightly controlled product made for golfers looking for the absolute best in steel shaft performance. Players seeking a low launch and low spin profile can get the exact weight and flex they need in the variety of shafts offered in the Tour Issue line up by True Temper. Made most specifically for players with moderate and quick swing tempos, the DG Tour Issue shafts are the ultimate tool for completing your iron and wedge sets.

TRUE TEMPER New Dynamic Gold Tour Issue Steel Iron Shaft Set 3-PW X100

  • The Tour Issue steel shafts create more power and control for a low launching, low spinning, penetrating ball flight.
  • Dynamic Gold Tour Issue shafts give every golfer Tour Only tolerances to ensure that every shaft is matched in weight and frequency.
  • True Temper produces a low launch, a low spin profile that suits both moderate and quick tempo golfers.

Offer

The Dynamic Gold Tour Issue is the most prominent shaft on worldwide tours especially in the wedges of the game’s best players. Players often opt for the heaviest Tour Issue models to increase their control and accuracy in their scoring clubs. The Tour Only tolerance validation allows True Temper to give amateur golfers the ultimate club fitting and building experience. Until recently, I played the DG Tour Issue shafts in my gap, sand, and lob wedges. I played the S400 line to keep the weight up without creating a wedge shaft that was too stiff. I loved the performance and response I got playing this shaft. I loved the control and stability it gave me, especially when hitting wedge shots that launched low and stopped quickly. Players often overlook blending their wedge shafts into their iron sets and the DG Tour Issue can be a great option to complete that bridge. As iron shafts are cut to the proper weights for wedges, so much of the shaft is removed that they become too light for high swing speed players. By creating a heavier shaft in two different flexes, True Temper gives players better options for their overall set make up in their Tour Issue line. Players that opt for the extra-stiff version in their irons can reduce flex without reducing the weight and create consistency in their short game. Overall, True Temper delivers average golfers the tour experience with Dynamic Golf Tour Issue and these shafts help club fitters and golfers dial in their exact ball flight preferences.

True Tempe Dynamic Gold Tour

The True Temper Tour Issue Dynamic Gold is a high-performing golf club shaft designed to provide extra stiffness and precision for players. It has received widespread praise for its durability and performance on the course. The shaft's construction ensures that it can withstand consistent use, making it a reliable option for golfers who demand the best from their equipment.

  • Tour Only weight and flex tolerances ensure that every shaft is hand-picked to fit the iron and wedge builds.
  • S400 is one of few shafts made in the 130-gram range without being extra-stiff and great for aggressive players.
  • True Temper produces a low launch, low spin profile that suits both moderate and quick tempo golfers.
  • Dynamic Golf Tour Issue is available only in 130- and 132-gram ranges and can be too heavy for some golfers.
  • True Temper does not make the Tour Issue shaft in regular flex so slower swing players may need other options.
  • The Dynamic Gold Tour Issue shafts typically carries an upcharge that can increase the cost of builds.

The True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue shafts are available in two flexes and one weight category. The S400 shaft model weighs approximately 132-grams and is stiff flex. The X100 version is 130-grams, extra-stiff. Both models feature a high kick point for low launch and low spin.

True Temper is trusted by the game’s best players to deliver consistent, high-performance shafts for their irons and wedges. The Dynamic Gold Tour Issue line brings tour-truck validation to the bags of weekend golfers and amateur players. Players looking to upgrade their iron shaft or complete their wedge makeup can customize their ideal balance of weight, flex, and ball flight with the trust that each shaft in the Tour Issue line will be meticulously handpicked to match. Serious golfers and low handicap players should look to enhance their iron and wedge play with the Dynamic Golf Tour Issue shafts.

True Temper rolls out Dynamic Gold Tour Issue Mid shaft at Farmers Insurance

  • Follow on Twitter
  • Follow on Instagram

Dynamic Gold Tour Issue Mid produces a higher peak height (10-15 feet) than the original.

Jonathan Wall/GOLF

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The introduction of low-spin golf balls has made it easier for pros to chase extra distance in the driver. But what happens when you don’t want low launch and spin in the irons?

True Temper’s solution to the problem is a new Dynamic Gold Tour Issue Mid prototype design that was introduced to players for the first time at the Farmers Insurance Open . (For the moment, only 50 sets are available to test, along with a handful of 6-iron shafts for demos.)

“A lot of this was predicated around the ball design of today,” said Paul Loegering , True Temper’s Tour manager. “So the high clubhead speed guy doesn’t want to give up his high launch, low spin with the woods, so then they’re having this void with how we can fix it.”

true temper dynamic gold tour issue mid

This isn’t the first time True Temper has created a high launch product. Elevate Tour was designed to generate similar launch characteristics, but the lighter overall weight made it difficult to get in the hands of pros.

“The easiest way to increase launch is to take weight out of the shaft,” said Don Brown, True Temper’s VP of marketing and innovation, “but at 120 grams, most guys out here are going to say it’s too light.”

Instead of stripping weight from the shaft, the midsection was reinforced and the taper rate changed in the tip section to induce a higher launch. According to Brown, golfers will see roughly 10-15 feet of additional peak height at the same weight (130 grams) as the original Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 .

True Temper's Dynamic Gold Tour Issue shaft is currently played by Tiger Woods, Brooks Koepka and Justin Thomas.

What’s the difference between True Temper Dynamic Gold and Dynamic Gold Tour Issue shafts?

“It’s incremental, more launch and more spin, but you couple those two things together and the ball gets up in the air and lands steeper,” Brown said.

True Temper spent the last year developing Dynamic Gold Tour Issue Mid X100 and went through five different prototypes before landing on the version shown to pros — a number that might seem a light until you realize the effort that goes into creating a single steel prototype.

“Five different versions doesn’t seem like a lot,” Brown said. “But think of it this way: When you’re talking about a graphite shaft, you can make a version in a couple of days and it’s out the door. It’s six weeks from start to finish on a steel prototype. So for those five, it’s half the year.”

Dynamic Gold Tour Issue Mid X100 is a Tour-only product for the moment, but depending on how it performs on Tour, there’s a chance it could make its way to retail later this year.

Shaft, Grip

Blueprint t reviews, blueprint t specifications.

  • These are design specifications that may vary due to manufacturing tolerances.
  • Lie angle is based on Black Color Code at standard length.
  • Power Spec Loft is a fitting option for players looking to boost their iron distance or decrease spin to hit a desired trajectory window. This custom-designed loft configuration delivers a calculated power boost without sacrificing the integrity of the club’s design.
  • Retro Spec Loft is a fitting option if you’re less concerned with overall distance and more with precision and a higher trajectory for more stopping power. This loft configuration yields functional distance gaps for utilizing a 3-wedge setup or a more classic loft spec.
  • Club bounce angles will vary slightly if ordered with non-standard loft specs.
  • Achievable swingweights depend on shaft, length and grip combinations.
  • Available in left- and right-handed models.

Blueprint T Shafts

PING offers a variety of shaft flexes in steel and graphite to meet your needs and preferences. Selecting the proper shaft flex for your swing will help you get the most distance and accuracy from every shot. Generally, players with faster swing speeds require stiffer shafts to keep the ball trajectory lower, while players with slower swing speeds will require more-flexible shafts to produce a higher ball trajectory.

The choice of steel or graphite shafts is usually based on preferences for weight and/or feel. Players seeking a lighter overall weight and/or a softer feel in their irons may prefer graphite shafts, while players who prefer a standard-weight club with a firmer feel may prefer steel shafts.

We recommend that you get fit for the shaft that allows you to play your best golf. Whether that’s a softer, lighter shaft with a higher launch or a heavier, stiffer shaft with a lower trajectory, a PING Certified Club Fitter can help you find the shaft that brings consistency to your game.

  • Shaft weights listed are based on the trimmed length of a 7-iron and may not match the specs on the shaft manufacturer’s websites.
  • Graphite shafts are not available for the Blueprint T.

Blueprint T Grips

PING offers a variety of grip sizes and styles to fit different hand sizes and texture preferences. Since grip size influences your wrist action, and therefore the direction of your shots, it is commonly used by fitters to affect ball flight.

PING color-coded grips are available in six different diameters, and can be further customized with grip tape according to your needs. Once the neutral grip color code has been determined based on hand measurements, golfers may consider smaller diameter grips to help control fades and slices, or larger diameter grips to help control draws and hooks.

There’s a new DG 120 x100 shaft…all the benefits of x100 but lighter. Absolutely love mine

How many of you wrx'ers play this shaft??? What are some of the pros and cons of this shaft compared to the ever so popular PX and TTBG?? Thanks!

I have tried PX shafts in the past but recently switched back to DG. Any of you done the same?? If so, why?

I'm perplexed by these shafts because the specs say they are too much shaft for me but every time I try them, I'm shocked I can hit them comfortably. I actually hit them higher than my stiff TT Lite XL. Go figure.

Oh, and I did come back to TT after a long stint with PX.

By far the best shaft tor my irons and my swing. They are a bit heavy for me as I am past 65, but nothing else I have demoed , feels as good. Great ironshafts! I also like the Sensicore option which enhances the feel IMO.

Very solid feeling shaft. Good control of your ball flight with these. I voted 4 only b/c I've never tried anything else so it's tough for me to vote "BEST". I hear the Rifle ProjectX shafts are pretty sweet. Like to try those someday.

One of the best shafts around, IMO. I had a set of Ben Hogan Edge CFT's with 3 (regular) flex which i had no idea what that meant. I placed one in my 6-iron at 37.5" and got the best results and could be aggressive with my swing, experimenting with trajectory at ~185 yards. It gave such an amazing feel, way better than the S300! It was awkward going back to the other regular-flexed irons 20 or so grams lighter though.

If you have a Driver swing speed of 105, do you think X100 would be a bit too strong for me in my irons? I like to go after my iron s pretty hard and I have a quick swing for what it worth. Also if I tend to fight a Hook, from my regular flex in my MP32 irons. Do you think this will give me a better dispersion and lesser Hook action?

I know these are a lot of questions, thanks for your advice in advance.

You need to try an s300 first, x100 will probably be too much... But get those regulars flex out of there

I've had PX 5.5, 6.0, & 6.5. But, I went to DGX100s and found my game. Granted I tried DG's SL, HL and a few others before feeling comfortable. Nippons also felt good, but didn't work for the tight dispersion I want. The KBS ball flight was hard for me to dial in. I am a feel player who goes hard at pins with the shortest club I can. These keep it lower thru the wind and hold the greens.

Can someone help me with these question? What is sensicore (padded material)? Can it be retrofitted into a shaft that doesn't have it? What advantages are gained if any from this? Thanks in advanced.

Negative. A shaft either has a sensicore, or it doesnt. No in between.

Thanks! Can you explain any differences if any feel etc. or why someone would buy a shaft with this options? Thanks again.

I have had sensicore s300's but not in the x100. Great feeling shaft and would recommend it to anybody. Seems like Sensicore X100's would be the next step for me.

The sensicore is a big difference from what I remember. Very smooth, less vibrations on misses.

Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

While the sensicores feel peachy and all, when I hit a toe ball I want that feedback, when its 2 grooves to low I want that feedback. It seems like it would be like driving a sportscar with a mushy steering feel, not for me.

I understand your point but with a shaft as stiff as x100's are, I want them to be as soft and mushy as possible. Stiff enough to keep up with the swing, but dampend through impact.

Oldish thread but I just fitted some X100's to my Ping S57 Irons. Originally they had the ZZ's.

So far I'm thrilled with the feel. Maybe I'm still in the honeymoon phase but I like:

a) The extra weight.

b) Flight seems the same except in 3 and 4 which seems lower.

c) From what I can tell I've picked up around 10' on my 8 iron. I might have just been swinging harder cause I was excited with having new toys ;-)

d) Not as sharp a feel to off centre hits as the ZZ's. This could be a side effect of the extra weight.

I'm happy so far :-)

These are hands down the best shafts out there right now. I absolutely love these!

  • 3 months later...

After years of thinking these shaft were too stiff for me I decided to give them a try. I purchased a set of Ping i5's with these shafts and fell in love with them. I've always struggled with hitting the ball too high and these shafts cured that problem. It's easy to see why so many pros hit them.

I purchased a new set of Bridgestone Combo irons this spring and they came with PX 5.5's. They generally feel dead and seem to not go anywhere. During a lesson, my teacher let me try his pw and 7 iron with DG S300's. Oh my, what a difference. Lively more boring trajectory with more distance. I am replacing the PX's with S300's tomorrow.

I played a set of MP-67s with PX 5.5s in them and they were meant to be suited to my swing speed but no chance they were extremely weak i bought a set of Callaway X forged 08 and they were fitted with DG X100s and are amazing best shaft ever in my opinion

I have X100 sensicores in my Titleist 670s and they feel superb!

JBro

I got into PX a few years ago, started with 5.5 and went to 6.5. I'm kinda steep so I end up bending the tips on the PX. Every single PX shaft I've had in a club, the tip has bent. Went back to DG and decided to try out the X100. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL OF MY LIFE?!??!! Best shaft ever, piercing flight with great feel and distance.
