The Best Men’s Travel Pants of 2024

  • Best Overall Men’s Travel Pants: Bluffworks Envoy Lightweight Travel Pants
  • Best Budget Men’s Travel Pants: UNIONBAY Rainier Travel Chinos
  • Best Travel Pants for Adventuring In: LIVSN Ecotrek Trail Pants
  • Best Travel Pants to Look Like a Local: Western Rise Evolution 2 Pants

Bluffworks Envoy Lightweight Travel Pants

  • Fabric 57% recycled polyester, 33% polyester, 10% spandex
  • Fabric weight 210 gsm
  • Fit True to size
  • Weight 15 oz.

Product Badge

  • Lightweight fabric dries quickly
  • Wrinkle resistant
  • Looks and feels more recreational than the Ascenders
  • Anti-UV properties
  • More comfortable than most pants on the list
  • The rear device pocket is uncomfortable to sit on a phone in the back phone pocket
  • Lacks a DWR

Bluffworks’ Ascender Chino has been at or near the top of our travel pants list for four years now. Our main gripe with the Ascender is the heavy lean into the business side of “business casual.” That and the sheer number of pockets sometimes confounded our sleep-deprived travel brains. But now with fewer pockets and less golf-course chino, Bluffworks nailed the perfect travel pants with their Envoy Lightweight Travel Pants iteration ($125).

Trimming the fat started with the pockets. The Envoy drops a pocket to give us nine, but all are functional, and five of them zip shut. Two stealth pockets zip inside the hand pockets, both rear pockets zip shut, and a device pocket zips closed off the thigh and is a great place to store your documents.

Behind the right rear pocket, the Envoy tucks a drop-in style phone pocket below the waistband. This is a brilliant design that is easy to access, yet deep enough to curb sticky fingers. We did find it more comfortable to store the phone on the thigh when seated.

The Envoys close shut with a zippered fly and metal button sewn into the elastic, belt-friendly waistband. In case you left the belt at home, silicone tabs are welded to the inside of the waistband and help keep the pants from shifting down.

Instead of a 100% durable polyester fabric found in the Ascender Chino, the Envoy is constructed from a recycled polyester spun with 10% spandex, giving the pants a 4-way stretch. On the inside, all seams are overlocked and tacked down with a double stitch on the inseam to keep them from rubbing against the skin and reducing exposure to snags. The pants wear light and supple, and given that they don’t have a gusset sewn into the crotch, we found the Envoys very flexible if not the most comfortable pants on our list.

And that’s really where the Envoys shine. If nothing else, a travel pant should go unnoticed — both on you and among potential troublemakers. These pants wear effortlessly, yet are capable of storing all your essentials safely away.

If you haven’t tried Bluffworks before, we recommend looking at the Envoy Lightweights over the Ascenders. While the Ascenders have one more pocket (a passport sleeve on the inside of the left front pocket), only three of the 10 pockets zip shut. The styling of the Envoy has five pockets that zip shut and wears more casually without compromising its city chops.

UNIONBAY Rainier Travel Chinos

  • Fabric 94% nylon, 6% spandex
  • Fabric weight 173 gsm
  • Weight 13 oz.

The Best Men’s Travel Pants of 2024

  • Comfortable
  • Security options
  • Well priced
  • Pants run long
  • Material tends to collect lint

Travel should never be about the gear. It should be about the experience. An Amazon darling, at $40 a pair, UNIONBAY’s Rainier Travel Pants are a steal, leaving more cash in the wallet for traveling.

True to size, the nylon-spandex blend offers just enough stretch for a full range of motion. The pants keep around the waist with a button and have traditional belt loops if you want to class them up with a belt.

Three nylon zipper pockets pair with deep hand pockets. With two in the back and one on the upper right leg, they’re big enough to secure a passport, the latest iPhone, a notepad, or all of them together.

The Rainiers are rated to 50 UPF and feel durable in the hand, making them acceptable for activities like hiking. The outermost layer is lightly brushed and tends to collect lint and show stains quicker than other pants we tested, but they wash up easily and the 170 gsm fabric is quick to dry.

While a simple pant when compared to the Bluffworks attention to detail, these chino-style pants hit the core elements we looked for when evaluating the best men’s travel pants. If you’re looking for a budget pair of travel pants that pack up tight and breeze from the tarmac to restaurants (and maybe a light hike in between), these are it.

The Rainiers are available in four colors: charcoal, navy, black, and khaki.

LIVSN Ecotrek Trail Pants

  • Fabric 70% Blue Ocean nylon, 25% nylon, 5% spandex

The Best Men’s Travel Pants of 2024

  • Form and function meet the apex pant
  • Bomber hardware
  • Tons of pockets with versatile security options
  • DWR is negligible
  • Styling is less formal

LIVSN’s Ecotrek Trail Pant  ($129) brings more stretch, lighter weight, and a more athletic design to their tried and true Flex Canvas Pants. And while these new pants are great for climbing, hiking, or other fast-paced activities in warmer climates, we find they hit all the marks for what we love in travel pants too.

Let’s start with the many pockets, most of which are zippered. Both rear pockets close with a zipper, offering some much-needed peace of mind. Angling off the back of the left thigh is an additional, horizontal zippered pocket, which is great for gadgets or a small wallet.

Both of the mesh hand pockets have coin sleeves to prevent loose currency or keys from shifting around, and the left front hand pocket has a hidden zippered pocket large enough to protect your phone. Rounding out the seven pockets is a reinforced multitool pocket sitting on the right thigh. With so many pocket options, there’s a place for everything that feels designed with purpose instead of over-engineered.

The pocket configuration is dialed, but what sells these pants are the little details. The fabric’s synthetic blend doesn’t feel stiff, and the smartly tailored material walks quietly, fitting our testers with an ergonomic, yet surprisingly athletic fit.

A metal button closes the front and is backed with a leather pledget to prevent busting out. The Ecotrek Trail pants have belt loops, but if you forget your belt, they include a drawstring that hides inside the waistband. The cuffs are reinforced around the heel and so is the utility tool pocket.

While they don’t have a robust DWR, the material breathes very well. When things heat up, the pant legs roll up and keep under a buttoned strap that’s been sewn with reflective tape. These little details add up pretty quickly to make the Ecotrek a stellar pant.

Turn the pants inside out, and you really get an appreciation for the quality and care taken to make these pants. All seams are overlocked, with the flat-felled inseam. This kind of stitching increases durability where you need it and comfort where you want it.

Sustainability is core to LIVSN’s line of clothes, and the  Ecotrek Trail pant  walks the talk. The material is woven from Oceanflex fabric (70% recycled fishing buoys recovered from the ocean), and the YKK zipper taping is made from recycled ocean plastic. The rest is 25% nylon and 5% spandex for stretch.

If you are looking for lightweight, stretchy, durable pants, the LIVSN Ecotrek Trail Pant stands out as one of the best men’s travel pants on the market and can tackle a wide range of activities.

The Ecotrek Trail pants are available in olive, caramel, and charcoal colors, and they come in a range of sizes up to a 40-inch waist and a 34-inch inseam.

Western Rise Evolution 2 Pants

  • Fabric 90% nylon, 10% elastane, woven in Sweden, cut and sewn in the USA
  • Fabric weight 107 gsm
  • Weight 11 oz.

The Best Men’s Travel Pants of 2024

  • Lightweight material breathes just as well as the first
  • More durability than the first iteration
  • Fantastic fit and construction
  • Better mobility than the first iteration
  • New fabric feels slightly stiffer (breaks in over time)
  • Patch on the inside pocket can feel sticky against the legs (they are changing it to a print)
  • Single security pocket is limiting for some travelers

The first iteration of the Evolution was a GearJunkie staple around the office. Simple, functional, durable — it’s what we recommended to all our friends who ask us, “What’s the best pant for everyday use?” This year, the updated Western Rise Evolution 2.0 ($128) has more stretch, and they are only all the better for it.

This new bump in elastane gives the Evolution 2.0 a significant four-way stretch and increased flexibility without sacrificing durability. The jean-like five-pocket design wears more like denim but has the durability of a hiking pant. In fact, one of our editors wore their pair to the top of the Grand Teton.

At the core of the pant is the nylon-elastane blend with a trim jean cut. The nylon fibers are softened by running them through an air-texturized process and then weaving them into a dynamic yarn. The material has a durable weave that mimics denim (and feels less “khaki”).

The DWR coating — or maybe DBR (Durable Beer Resistance) — is outstanding. We wore these pants to Oktoberfest last year where they took the brunt of the fickle Bavarian weather and a rowdy beer hall.

Reach around back, and you’ll find a double pocket on the right, with a hidden zipper pocket that’s large enough to swallow your passport. Western Rise expanded the front coin pocket and made it big enough to holster the largest phone on the market.

After your trip, roll them up and watch them disappear in your luggage. They tick all the boxes for traveling and were the envy of our photographer while cycling through Colombia.

There aren’t many reasons to ding the Evolutions; the material on the new pant feels stiff out of the box but that softens up over time. To help differentiate its pant models (which all have a similar cut and color), Western Rise screened a patch on the inner left pocket. It can feel a little sweaty against the legs.

Aware of this issue, Western Rise is changing that label to a print going forward. One thing that hasn’t changed is the pocket configuration. Some will find the additional zipper pocket just the right amount of added security. Others will prefer more pockets to keep their EDCs. And that’s where we find the Evolution falls short. An extra security pocket would send this pant to the top of the list again.

If you want that Western Rise styling but with a wrinkle-resistant fabric, the Diversion pant ($168) is also a great pick. The double-knit canvas weighs 286 gsm, making it more durable overall but sacrificing packability.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. This fantastic five-pocket jean-style pant has been on our list of the best men’s travel pants for 6 years now. For 2 of those years, they were our top pick. We use the Western Rise Evolution 2.0s as a benchmark for fit and comfort and we recommend them to friends looking for a do-everything pant that flies fashionably under the radar.

Proof 72-Hour Merino Travel Pant

  • Fabric 47% merino wool, 33% nylon, 14% polyester, 6% elastane
  • Fabric weight 247 gsm
  • Weight 16.5 oz.

The Best Men’s Travel Pants of 2024

  • Gusseted crotch
  • Good fit and stretch
  • Pricey — $200 can buy you two (or three) other pants on the list
  • Weighs an ounce or two more than other similar pants
  • Lacks a dedicated device pocket

Merino pants? 100%. Proof is Huckberry’s in-house performance wear, with the 72-Hour line as their go-to travel clothes under the Proof name. New this year, Huckberry released the 72-Hour Travel Pant ($198), and while expensive, it has a lot of merits. We learned it’s all in the fabric.

Wool has natural antimicrobial, DWR, and UPF protection characteristics that we usually laud about when discussing base layers . Because wool wicks moisture, the pants breathe well and keep you feeling dry even in hot climates and sticky bus rides. It keeps the stench down and the comfort high. All things we look for when traveling.

This is the first merino wool pant we’ve seriously considered, and it makes a lot of sense. If you are going far with limited space, you need to trim the fat. And while cutting out extra shirts and pants may once have been a questionable decision, it’s a lot easier when one pair of pants delivers so well.

The design team gave some thoughtful reflection to the 72-Hour pant. Complimenting the five-pocket design is a hidden zippered pocket inside the right rear pocket. The panels are sewn together with a combination of comfortable overstitched inseams, flat-sewn gussets, and durable flat-felled side seams.

The pants are sewn together with a combination of flat-felled and welted overlocked joints, then finished with a robust DWR. All this tech stays under the radar with black hardware finishes.

As styling goes, we find the Proof 72-Hour Travel Pant to be on par with Western Rise’s Evolution 2’s, which around the office we can agree are one of the best styled pants available today. The comfort award, however, goes to the Proofs.

Teren Lightweight Traveler Pants

  • Fabric 88% nylon, 12% spandex
  • Fabric weight 154 gsm

The Best Men’s Travel Pants of 2024

  • Pre-treated with an insect repellant
  • Stain resistant
  • Internal drawstring for extra waist security
  • Three zipper-closed pockets
  • Lightweight
  • Tanto-style pocket to clip your EDC
  • Magnetic closure catches on anything metal
  • No durable water repellant finish

Threading the needle between style, function, and durability, Teren’s Lightweight Traveler ($130) is our pick for folks who want one pant to do it all.

The Lightweight Traveler is a tapered chino-style pant with six pockets. Three pockets secure your goods with a zipper. Two zip shut vertically behind the front pockets and the third secures the right back pocket. The pants are washed in Permethrin to ward off critters. Plus, they’re antimicrobial, stain resistant, and offer UV protection.

Our editor Chris Carter wore his Lightweight Travelers on the Continental Divide thru-hike, where they withstood miles of intense bushwhacking through thorny, overgrown trails and post-holing through deep snow. Carter lauded the pants’ ability to stay stench-free for weeks on end.

After the adventure is done, the stain-release fabric readily releases dirt and grime in the wash. These chinos easily suit up for a night on the town.

The Lightweight Travelers ditch the classic button and use a pair of sewn-in magnets to close around the waist. While wearing the pants around town and doing weekend chores, the magnetic closure often got stuck on metal objects.

They snapped to my grocery cart, to my truck bed, to my knife, to loose screws while repairing my gate. Curious about the strength, I went into my garage and started hanging hardware off the pants. The magnet is strong enough to hold a hammer.

But, lean over to tie your shoes (or eat a big meal) and the magnetic fasteners slide apart easily. Stand up, and they pull right back together.

Yeah, the magnetic closure is different and takes some getting used to. Is it problematic? Maybe. The gauss, or magnetic induction, could demagnetize small metal springs in mechanical watches. Given the most popular watch is a smartwatch — this isn’t an issue for most of us. But magnets can also demagnetize credit cards and hotel room keys. We didn’t try to demagnetize a credit card, but it’s something to consider when zipping items in the front pockets.

Worried about the magnet holding the pants up? Backed with belt loops and an internal drawstring, the pants have plenty of options to keep them around the waist.

Other issues: The offset zippered front pockets drop into the same front hand pocket sleeve. They fight for the same real estate, compromising overall storage. We found these pockets a little challenging to access while seated in tight spaces.

For those looking for rain or spill protection, the Terens don’t sport a durable water repellant (DWR). But they do dry out quickly.

With so many pros, these are small cons. The spandex weave yields significant mobility while the nylon deflects catches and tears — all while keeping the pants just over 10 ounces. It’s a great combination of durability and flexibility in a quick-drying pant that packs down small. At 11 ounces, the Lightweight Traveler is truly lightweight, competing only with Western Rise’s Evolution 2’s.

KÜHL Suppressor Jogger

  • Fabric 85% nylon, 15% spandex
  • Fabric weight 165 gsm
  • Weight 12 oz.

The Best Men’s Travel Pants of 2024

  • Light and packable
  • Durable and stretchy
  • KÜHL drop in style pockets are fantastic
  • Fabric is noisy
  • No button-no fly minimalism may not appeal to everyone
  • Only one zippered pocket on the backside

KÜHL has a strong reputation throughout the outdoor industry for making bomber, thoughtfully designed pieces. And its sub-$100 Suppressor Joggers exemplify those qualities in spades.

The 85% nylon, 15% spandex blend is lightweight, stretchy, breathable, and durable. Plus, a solid DWR treatment rebuffs Mother Nature’s fickle temperament.

Like any good pair of travel pants, the Suppressor’s sport well-thought-out pockets. The angled hand pockets are deep and easy to access while seated. A single stealth pocket zips behind the right back side, and drop-in pockets grace both thighs.

Drop-in pockets are our favorite design to haul devices. They snug the phone but keep your data within reach. The best of the batch fit on the backside of the leg, maintaining accessibility and minimizing the bounce. KÜHL has two of them. Riding down the back of the quads, they are perfect for clipping multitools, knives, or pens, and sheath a phone, passport, or tickets. And it’s these drop-in pockets that make the Suppressor our favorite pant to wear on the plane. Everything stays within easy reach.

If there’s any knock against the Suppressor Joggers , it’s that these are simple pull-on pants. No button, no fly — just an elastic waist and drawstring. On the flip side, this keeps things quick when moving through TSA – there’s no pulling off the belt and redressing after pat-downs.

Ornot Mission Pants

  • Fabric 95% nylon, 5% elastane
  • Fabric weight 232 gsm
  • Weight 14 oz.

The Best Men’s Travel Pants of 2024

  • Gusseted design gives a great fit
  • Reflective details on cuffs
  • Made in USA
  • Not many – An extra pockets or a drop in phone sleeve, and these would be our top choice for travel pants

When it comes to fit and function, cyclists have it all figured out. Stretch, durability, DWR, and ergonomic pocket layout make a great commuter pant. Fall short on any of these, cyclists will be quick to call you out.

San Francisco-based Ornot hit all the paces with its Mission Shorts. This year, the brand released its beloved short in a pant. True to the brand, the Mission Pants ($148) pull off an effortlessly classy-looking pant. Minimalist aesthetics, five pockets (two that zip shut), and the rear pockets angle off the midline for easy access. The stealth thigh pocket zips contents securely off the back of the leg. The leeward position pegs the device to the leg while in the saddle.

We found the Mission Pants to be lighter than other commuter pants on the market. The 232 gsm fabric breathes well and moves with the body without feeling like a protective shell. They wear easy at the office and feel at home on the street. And if you grab a bike by the horns, both cuffs flip up to reveal reflective hits to keep you seen on the go.

We’ve been following this small brand for years and it keeps bringing its A-game to market. These garments are all made in the USA and offer a 1-year warranty. The brand’s Mission Pants are great on the bike … or not.

Jetty Acadia 2.0 Utility Pant

  • Fabric 100% polyester
  • Fabric weight 240 gsm
  • Weight 16 oz.

The Best Men’s Travel Pants of 2024

  • Good stretch
  • Comfortable fit
  • Drawstring and belt loops
  • Only available in a 32 inseam
  • Pants stretch and lightly pill over time
  • Front occasionally unbuttons too easily

Jetty’s Acadia Utility Pant ($100) straddles the shoreline between board short and the boardroom. But don’t let its slick chino veneer dissuade you.

The 100% polyester material is warp-knitted, interlocking the poly fibers into a smooth-faced fabric. Jetty sewed in a gusset in the crotch to add extra room for the legs. The combination of cut and materials gives the Acadia an amazing amount of stretch in all directions.

And it also gives the pants fantastic wrinkle resistance. We’ve pulled our Acadias out of overstuffed bags and walked into meetings with deceivingly fresh-pressed-looking pants.

Two pockets zip shut on the backside to keep your goods protected, and the mesh hand pockets are deep. Riding down the right leg is a drop-in device pocket. There is plenty of room in the drop-in pocket, and plenty of room in the relaxed quads before they taper slightly to the bottom hem. This extra room in the thighs lets the phone bounce more than we’d like.

The Acadia Utility Pants close with a tarnished brass button embossed with the Jetty logo. A drawstring is sewn into the waistband so you won’t ever lose it in the wash. And in case you do need to go into the boardroom, Jetty ports the drawstring on both sides of the waistband, so you can tuck the drawstring on the inside of the pants for a polished look.

KETL Mountain Apparel Shenanigan Outdoor Pant

  • Fabric 96% nylon, 4% spandex
  • Fabric weight 156 gsm

The Best Men’s Travel Pants of 2024

  • Integrated web belt
  • Three zippered pockets (two in back and one behind the thigh)
  • Deep mesh hand pockets
  • Quiet material
  • Lifetime free repair program
  • Free shipping and returns
  • Slim fit won’t appeal to some. Slimmest pant in the lineup
  • Front snap is weak
  • Metal belt clasp may invite a wanding at TSA

At $100, the KETL Mountain Apparel Shenanigan Outdoor Pants are a refreshing blend of style and tech and one helluva outdoor pant. The nylon twill is blended with a touch of spandex yielding room for adventure in a quiet yet bomber pant.

Should you decide to bring these trousers off-piste, the durable twill has a robust DWR, shunning even the wettest brush. Deep mesh hand pockets and zippered rear pockets make sure all your goods stay where you put them. A roomy device pocket zips shut along the right thigh.

To keep the pants up, an integrated web belt hooks over the button closure. For better (or worse) the belt is sewn into the pants and cannot be removed. KETL bonded a bead of silicon inside the waistband to prevent the pants from riding down. We found these pants stay glued to the backside while wearing a pack.

Across the board, KETL pants fit slim. If you have athletic calves and quads, these will feel snug. If you prefer a more relaxed fit, these probably won’t be a pant for you. What it lacks in room, it gives back in performance. The lack of extra material makes the Shenanigan a great choice for cycling. The durability, flexibility, and tapered fit soar on the mountain bike.

Available only online, KETL makes it easy to buy and return. They offer free shipping both ways and back up their products with a lifetime repair program. But trust us, you’ll want to keep a hold of your KETL Mountain Apparel Shenanigan Outdoor Pants .

Orvis O.O.O.O. 5-Pocket Pants

  • Fabric 51% cotton, 45% nylon, 4% Lycra
  • Fabric weight 213 gsm
  • Fit Casual boot cut, true to size

The Best Men’s Travel Pants of 2024

  • Classically inspired 5-pocket design
  • Hidden 6th zippered pocket in right rear pocket
  • Reflective strips sewn inside both legs for visibility
  • Smallest size is 32”
  • No gusset for extra mobility. Not that they need it.
  • Slightly less fashionable option to Western Rise’s Evolution 2

You don’t have to pack a rod to appreciate Orvis’s O.O.O.O. 5-Pocket Pants ($129). These easy-wearing cotton-poly pants are a cross between your favorite denim and a lightweight khaki. The warp-knit twill has a touch of mechanical stretch and a DWR that is tough enough to negotiate riverside scrambles after work but with enough swagger to make it back to dinner in style.

Sewn together with an exposed overlock stitch, the seam is left exposed on the inside. It’s not tacked down. Though not as durable as a welted seam, the O.O.O.O. (that’s Out-Of-Office, Office) pants trend more durable than many of the pants we’ve seen. This seems entirely appropriate for the classic 5-pocket design pants.

The rear right pocket has an extra hidden zippered pocket to keep your wallet, passport, or fishing license securely stowed. In case you are riding home, both leg’s bottom hems have a six-inch strip of reflective tape sewn into the side seam. We didn’t expect that kind of attention to detail from a fishing brand, but it’s a nice touch that we appreciate.

We’ve been wearing the O.O.O.O. 5-Pocket Pants for years now and found that they are durable, lightweight, and breathable.

Eddie Bauer Guide Pro End-to-Ender Pants

  • Fabric 56% CORDURA® nylon, 37% nylon, 7% spandex
  • Fabric weight Unnkown

The Best Men’s Travel Pants of 2024

  • Burly CORDURA fabric
  • Seven pocket design with three that close securely
  • Limited color ways
  • Backcountry styling doesn’t blend as well in the city

Eddie Bauer’s Guide Pro is a favorite with the GearJunkie staff. Classic fit, logical pocket layout, and top-shelf construction, these pants are frequently on sale and will last you for years. The Guide Pro End-to-Ender ($119) is Bauer’s beefed Guide Pro, and with a CORDURA nylon build, it’s more durable without sacrificing the weight, and it is 2 oz lighter. If you like to scramble around and get a little dirt under the nails while traveling, these pants are for you.

Constructed with a vertical weft knit and a generous portion of spandex, the pants have some lateral stretch but are vertically static. Articulated pleats help buy the pants mobility around the knees.

Seven generous and well-positioned pockets dot the pants. In addition to the pair of double-reinforced deep hand pockets, a pair of map pockets rest over the thighs. The left zips shut while the right thigh pocket has a flap that overlaps the lip of the pocket, keeping the contents from bouncing out. On the backside, two flap pockets snap shut and a third patch pocket hides under the right rear pocket.

The thigh pockets are sewn into the pants. This gives the pockets a clean and integrated look. Because Eddie Bauer stitches the entire pant together with overlocked seams, you can feel the extra bulk of the pocket seams against the leg. These are the one of two pants on our list sewn entirely with overlock stitching, and it’s worth noting. This extra measure of stitching provides more durability, but you’ll feel the bulk. You get used to it over time. It’s really a testament to the overall bomber construction of the End-to-Enders.

The pants close with a beefy zipper and fat button which stay closed. Belt loops are tacked to the waistband for extra options. And two eyelets are punched through the bottom hem of each pant leg, allowing you to run a gaiter cord through the pants if you want.

Eddie Bauer is a stalwart when it comes to value. While the styling is more traditional, the Guide Pro End-to-Ender is one of the best-built pants we’ve seen on the market. And since Eddie Bauer seems to run a sale about every other month, you can eventually find them about 40% off, making the a fantastic deal.

Municipal Overland Cargo

  • Fabric 98% cotton ripstop, 2% spandex
  • Fabric weight 160 gsm
  • Fit Athletic

The Best Men’s Travel Pants of 2024

  • Forward style
  • Six pockets, with three that zip shut, and one that snaps shut
  • Draw cord around the bottom hem
  • Elastic waist
  • Offered in one length
  • Treading into expensive territory for a simple pull-up cargo pant

Military meets gym day. From Mark Wahlberg’s warehouse of hustle and sporting style, Municipal’s Overland Cargo ($128) deconstructs the traditional cargo pant and injects modern flair. Which is a notable feat in itself.

Typically, function dictates form on cargo pants. Patched with oversized, baggy pockets can make them wear bulky and look unflattering. The Overland weaves a touch of spandex into the mostly cotton material, sews in a gusseted crotch, and pleated articulated knees to net functional mobility in a slim jogger style pant. These wear less Operation Desert Storm and slide right into urban core.

This doesn’t imply they lost their way. With six streamlined pockets, there is room for all your EDC essentials. In addition to the two deep hand pockets, two rear pockets zip shut. A vertical zipper pocket glides easily over the thigh, and the definitive cargo pocket snaps shut over the left leg with a single button. The entire pant is sewn together with overlocked and welted seams.

Available in size S-3X, the Overlands come in one length — the ideal length for anyone. True to jogger style, the bottom hem stops before the ankle.

An elastic cord is sewn into the bottom hem and can be cinched tight around the leg with a cord lock. Because of these design decisions, the length rides on its style credibility and has an acceptable universal size allowance.

Wahlberg’s style keeps you guessing whether he’s coming from or going to the gym. No button to pull out, no fly to blow, these pants pull up like sweatpants and stay around the waist with a simple drawstring. The Overland Cargo follows Wahlberg’s “I don’t care … but I look good doing it” aesthetic and is a great option for a casual lightweight pant with pockets aplenty.

For those that are cargo-curious — or simply want to throw on a pair of pants and look good without giving it much thought — the Overland Cargos have subtle posture without leaning heavily into athleisure.

DUER NuStretch Slim 5-Pocket

  • Fabric 60% cotton, 35% nylon, 5% spandex
  • Fabric Weight Unknown
  • Weight Unavailable

The Best Men’s Travel Pants of 2024

  • Cotton/nylon/spandex blend has a soft finish and good stretch
  • Stealth pocket on right thigh conceals a phone
  • Five pockets overall offers a good amount of storage
  • Gusset allows for great mobility, even in a slim fit
  • Slim fit might not be for everyone, also available in a relaxed fit
  • No DWR finish

We’ve seen many pants from DUER, and while always comfortable, the cotton-blend foundation is often too heavy and bulky for travel. The DUER NuStretch Slim 5-Pocket ($139) bucks this trend.

This isn’t your dad’s cotton trouser. Built around a cotton-nylon-spandex blend, the fabric feels light and stretchy. The material feels soft against the skin and has a slightly formal finish that makes it work-appropriate.

Like Helly Hansen’s Holmen , the material is sewn together using a combination of welted overlocking seams in the gussets and inseam for durability, with a simple plain stitch on the side seam for comfort. The same style of stealth pocket zips down the right thigh and holsters a device out of sight. Unlike the Holmen, the side pocket drops behind the thigh, and the crotch gusset is much larger. DUER adds a proper coin pocket to make this an honest ‘6-pocket’ pant.

Overall, this simple 5-pocket pant levels up in style, but with a timeless appeal. Given the multiple color options, there’s a DUER NuStretch 5-Pocket Pant for everyone.

Helly Hansen Holmen 5 Pocket Pant

  • DWR PFC-free DWR

The Best Men’s Travel Pants of 2024

  • Understated, but very comfortable
  • Warp stretch twill material has impressive stretch
  • Bluesign-approved with a PFC-fee DWR finish
  • Outdoors-oriented fit and cut
  • Thigh pocket isn't in the best placement
  • Limited number of colorways

Great fit with a touch of stretch, Helly Hansen’s Holmen 5-Pocket Pant ($100) is constructed from warp-stretch synthetic twill. The interlocking loops give the material a soft-in-the-hand feel with superb mobility that wears equally easy to the office or in the backcountry.

The classic five-pocket design hides the fifth pocket down the right side seam of the pants. This stealth pocket is the only pocket that zips shut, and the contents fit over the thigh instead of dropping down behind the thigh. While not always the most comfortable, we prefer thigh pockets that ride behind the thigh. This gives you a little extra confidence that the contents won’t spill while opening the pocket while seated in coach. Regardless, the thigh pocket is plenty big and comfortable to hold the contents.

Overbuilt for the outdoors, a combination of stitching and pleats provides mobility, durability, and comfort. The inseam is stitched together using a plain seam, and the extra material flares out to the side for comfort. The inseam and gusset have overlocked welted seams for durability. Helly Hansen added an articulating pleat around the knee for extra mobility. Finally, the pants close with a button and a hook closure on the inside. This extra amount of closure helps balance the load around the waist.

The Helly Hansen Holmen is a low-thrill pant that delivers. It’s not flashy, and it has minimal pockets for a travel pant, but it’s one of the more comfortable pants we tested this year.

How We Tested Men’s Travel Pants

There are few other products we test at GearJunkie that are considered non-negotiable in society. Outside the house, you gotta wear pants (or shorts). And if you’re choosing shorts, you’re probably not looking at the right pants. Travel pants are part of our everyday uniform allowing us to test them daily. We test pants for the office grind, after-school errands, dispatching weekend chores, and yes, of course, travel, constantly logging test hours to find the best travel pants on the market.

Cozy in coach, capable of tackling adventure, but formal enough to wear to dinner, travel pants span the use case spectrum. We’ve worn them on intercontinental flights to Germany, Italy, France, and Slovenia, as well as transcontinental flights from Jacksonville to Boise. In warmer climates, we’ve pulled them out of our bikepacking bags on cool nights in Nicaragua and high up on the Colombian Coffee Triangle. One tester even wore his pair to the top of the Grand Teton.

When we get our hands on a new pant, we first take a look at the materials. We gauge the fabric weight, breathability, and the material’s ability to resist wrinkling. Synthetics with a DWR will pack down smaller, bounce back from being jammed in luggage on an overnight flight, and resist stains (and spills) better than cotton.

A touch of spandex affords some stretch and nylon tends to be more durable. We then turn them inside out to look at the seams joining the pants together, looking at where costs were cut and potential quality issues might cause a blowout on the road.

To be considered for our list, pants need at least one pocket that can be zipped shut to safely secure a passport or wallet. The hand pockets should be deep enough to keep keys and change from accidentally spilling out, or have zippers that prevent mishaps. No joke, one pair of pants we tested (not on this list) spit a wallet out at work without us even knowing it.

We then evaluated each pant’s fit, durability, packability, ability to bounce back from repeated wash and wear, and unpacking. We want to find out if a pair of pants can be washed in the sink in the evening and be ready to wear the following morning.

We want to see if the material resists wrinkling. And we want to know if the pants are cut too large, too small, or hike up the legs. The best material and construction alone can’t fake a good fit. We test pants for mobility and proper length. Does the pant bind in the crotch? Are the gussets appropriate? Are the legs cut at a proper length or do they ride up when walking?

Our testing focuses primarily on comfort, versatility, and functionality when in transit, so if you’re looking for something more durable for active pursuits, check out our picks for the  best hiking pants . We also have a guide for the  best women’s travel pants  to get your travel companion ready for the long haul.

Testing History

Steve Graepel has been leading the men’s travel pant buyer guide since 2015. Over the span of 8 years, Graepel has seen over 225 pairs of travel pants, rigorously testing 150 pants. Graepel has worked at GearJunkie as a contributing editor since 2009, testing everything from packrafts, to bike bags, sleeping bags, winter boots, and trail runners. His latest beat is travel pants and flannels. Before his time as a fashion blogger, he wrote for Travel Idaho, National Geographic Adventure, Patagonia’s Tin Shed, Trail Runner, and Gear Patrol.

Graepel has researched and tested travel pants extensively — traveling, working, and camping in the high alpine desert of Idaho, Montana, and Utah, and traveling abroad in a variety of environments including Europe, Asia, Central, and South America. He continues to test travel pants year-round and searches for anyone who will listen to his yarns about the best travel trousers.

In 2020, we tried 27 pairs and listed 15 pants on our men’s buyers guide. In 2021, we tested an additional 35 pairs, highlighting nine new pants on our list. In 2022 we saw an additional 23 pairs, adding six new pants. In 2023 we looked at 38 pairs, adding seven new pants to the men’s travel pant buyer’s guide. Finally, in 2024, we’ve reviewed 27 pants, updating our Men’s Travel Pants buyer guide with nine new pants.

Each year introduces new styles and materials, and we try to reflect the best on the market of that year. Some trousers remain on the list, year after year. They are either so good, or so good of a deal, that they are tough to topple.

To keep a finger on the pulse of pants, we read reviews from top sites and contact manufacturers directly. Steve Graepel has regular conversations with pant brand owners and representatives in the travel pant space. These relationships allow us to stay up to date on what makes pants better every year, and keep an eye on sleeper pants that just don’t have the marketing budget to get mass attention.

Buyer’s Guide: How to Choose Travel Pants

Regardless of whether the pants are straight-leg or slim, a good pair is one that follows the human form and doesn’t bag out after repeated washings, or bloat when packed with your phone and keys. The length should fit your inseam or run longer so you can roll them up or get them tailored.

Almost every pant on our list has a great fit. If they didn’t, we’ve shared the cons. Both the Jetty’s and UNIONBAY’s pants ran a little long. On the other end, Municipal’s Overland Cargo is short by design and is only available in one length. Both Eddie Bauer and Orvis offer a variety of inseams for a dialed fit (from 30″ to 34″). To dial in the fit of the waist for models with belt loops, we typically try to find a travel and adventure-friendly belt that allows us to get through TSA without needing to remove it.

We scored each pant for both its ability to adventure, wear in coach, and hit the streets. Some pants, like KETL Mountains Shenanigans, have a bias for stout use. The Shenanigans are coated with a solid DWR and are our choice for adventure trips where you can’t sacrifice durability.

If traveling by plane, we prefer comfortable pants with accessible pockets. While 5-pocket styled jeans or chinos wear well on the street, their pockets are harder to access when sitting on the plane. Instead, we prefer a jogger or cargo pant that has vertical zippered pockets and drop-in device pockets on the legs.

Both Municipal and KÜHL had easy-to-access pockets in the plane. Eddie Bauer’s Guide Pro End-to-Ender has two generous thigh pockets. But both are sewn into the pants and tighten up over the thigh when seated. This makes it harder to pull the contents out.

For comfort in coach, you don’t need to look past Bluffworks Envoy . They look great and have plenty of pockets to stay organized. KÜHL’s Suppressor Jogger dialed in the drop-in pockets and is lightweight and durable, but the material isn’t nearly as soft as Eddie Bauer’s pants. It’s always a trade-off.

Style Matters

While comfort is key, we also need to be able to show ourselves in public (no washed-out gray sweatpants on this list). The most versatile travel clothes should be able to tackle a hike without getting roughed up, or walk into town looking sharp enough to peruse a museum, and duck in for fine dining afterward.

Unfortunately, the cargo pockets take away some formality while out on the town. With its jogger styling, KÜHL didn’t design around Michelin stars. They prioritized function and durability, mapping to utility. KÜHL, Municipal, and Eddie Bauer each have unique cargo styling that brings a touch of modernity to the military-inspired side-pocket pants. In general, we love cargo-style pants and joggers while sitting on the plane. It keeps all your essentials within reach.

On the other hand, Western Rise’s Evolution 2 and Proof’s 72-Hour Merino are fantastically styled everyday pants, but both have a single security pocket to maintain that sleek look. They are our go-to choice for travels to big cities where we want to kick up the look and feel at home while traveling abroad.

Clean lines, darker colors, and traditional styling help you blend into crowds and stave off the would-be pickpocket’s radar. The best men’s travel pants should look as good as they feel without shouting “ tourist .”

The material should be lightweight and, in our preference, darker to minimize showing the dirt collected along the way. That said, we were astounded by how well a fresh DWR can resist stains on even the fairest beige pants.

Fabric Weight

Lightweight performance fabrics can withstand repeated washings in a sink, line dry overnight, and stay wrinkle-free after weeks on the go. Today’s fabrics offer advanced sun protection and moisture-wicking properties and are often water-resistant or water-repellent.

Fabric weight is measured in grams per square meter (GSM). A heavier GSM will take up more room in your bag and take longer to dry. We find a 200-ish GSM fabric weight, like on our top pick from Bluffworks, light and breezy, and dries out quickly.

A welterweight fabric will disappear in the bag and dry out insanely fast, but going too light sacrifices durability. All the pants we tested are durable enough to venture off the pavement.

If you want the lightest pant you can find, give KETL Mountain’s Shenanigan a look. The 156 GSM fabric rolls up tight and is exceptionally durable. Western Rise also uses a lighter GSM fabric, but the pants weigh more overall.

travel jogger pants mens

Fabric Type

A cotton blend fabric adds breathability and a cooling effect, which is great for warmer climates, but can also sacrifice durability. And, unless treated with a DWR, cotton can wet out more easily and hold water longer.

The Orvis and Municipal’s Overland Cargo weave some cotton into their blend. To beef up the durability, the natural fiber is woven with a synthetic like polyester or nylon and an elastic component for stretch.

If you choose to go with denim or cotton, consider a stretchy fabric with a bit of spandex or elastane for comfort and flexibility while on the road. It will resist wear longer, dry faster, and feel much more comfortable. While not on this year’s list, Aviator’s The Best Travel Jeans in the World are very comfortable and weave in some stretch, but they weigh nearly twice as much as every other pant on the list. Our cotton choices keep the weight down.

Most of the pants on this list are woven from synthetic fibers. Synthetics tend to stand up to more abuse than their natural counterparts. For example, Ornot’s Mission Pant is incredibly durable and is built for men who abuse pants while in the saddle.

Unique this year, we saw a merino wool synthetic blend with Proof’s 72-Hour Merino Travel Pant. Wool is known for its odor-resistant and insulative qualities. Contrary to what you might think, they stay surprisingly cool and breathe well in hot climates. For durability and stretch, Proof weaves nylon, polyester, and a touch of elastane.

Weaving in spandex or elastic adds mobility, but can also give the pants a polished, slick finish. KÜHL weaves in a whopping 15% spandex into the material, but most pants will have between 2-6% for a combination of durability and mobility. Bluffworks , Unionbay , and Jetty feel more formal with their smooth-faced fabric finishes. Material finishes are more of a personal preference and don’t affect their water resistance, which is added with a DWR wash.

Our favorite pants come from Bluffworks. While the fit is fantastic, they don’t have a DWR. This makes them less desirable if you are traveling to places that rain a lot. However, they excel in so many other ways that they still stand out as our top choice. On the flip side, Western Rise’s DWR not only deflects dirt and grime on the road, but liters of beer simply rolled off them at Oktoberfest. We really took one for the team while testing.

Performance fabrics are standing up to heavy use like never before. Shelling out a few more bucks for quality generally gets you into a more durable pant that should hold up to more extensive use. We’ve put in countless hours testing the pants on this list, so you’re starting in the right place.

Seam Construction

Seams are often overlooked. Out of sight, out of mind, seams bring two patches of fabric together and are crucial for durability and comfort. But this is where we can differentiate the good from the great, and this is where we get passionately nerdy.

Flat-felled seams are best for joining heavy fabrics together. Think denim. The material doesn’t stretch and the fabric is woven from heavy cotton yarn. You want a solid seam to join the pants together. The fabric is joined, then rolled over itself and double stitched for a clean, bomber fasten.

None of the pants on our list are joined entirely from flat-felled seams, though LIVSN and Proof incorporate a flat-fell seam on at least one leg seam. In general, we find it more important to flat-fell the inseam of the pants (which is what Proof does).

Too much material tacked together with a flat-fell seam can cause rubbing against the legs. And most travel pants are constructed from lighter-weight fabrics, so pants don’t always need this extra durable seam construction.

They can get away with a less expensive, and more comfortable overlocked seam. An overlocking stitch, or welt-seam, has a lower profile, leaving the raw edge exposed but sewn down to the pant. Plus they are nearly as durable as the venerable flat-felled stitch, but can feel more comfortable.

Some overlocked stitches aren’t tacked down. That is, the seam isn’t locked down flat with a second row of stitching, leaving the surged seam exposed on the inside. This usually isn’t a big deal. Our main concern would be that the stitching could get caught on something and start to unravel. But we haven’t ever had this experience and it’s a fine option to use when binding two lightweight materials together. Orvis, Ornot, and even Bluffworks uses a combination of overlocked and welted overlocked seams.

The simplest seam, or plain seam, joins the two sides together with a simple, single stitch. Often the cut material is finished with a surger to prevent the material from fraying, but the joining seam itself is sewn together with a single stitch, and the exposed edges butterfly on the inside of the pant.

This is often used for lightweight material where want to reduce the bulk as much as possible. We see this used on Western Rise’s Evolution 2. In theory, this is not a highly durable seam construction. And we’ve seen this kind of seam unravel on a few pants we’ve tested. We’ve also been beating our Western Rise’s for years now and have yet to see their plain seam blow.

travel jogger pants mens

We like a pant that doesn’t ride up or bind when seated, and moves with you when active. DUER and KÜHL are very close at the top, for pure comfort, you can’t beat  Bluffworks Envoy . Beyond the fantastic material, the pant is is available in slim and regular fit, so there’s truly a comfortable pant for everyone’s preference.

travel jogger pants mens

We’ve tested  Western Rise’s Evolution lineup   standing outside in Bogota monsoon season, climbing snow and ice on the Grand, and prosting over beers at Oktoberfest. The DWR not only sheds spills, but it deflects dirt and grime too.

After a week of wearing them across the Alps, including a day sitting in the stairwell of an overbooked train to Munich, we were shocked at how clean our light khaki Evolution 2.0s walked off the return flight. We were also impressed with KETL Mountain’s Shenanigan’s. Water immediately beads off the surface.

If you’re bringing one pair of pants, you’ll eventually have to wash them while on the road. A lightweight synthetic pant is your best bet for a comfortable morning. Here again, Western Rise’s Evolutions  rose to the top. They are lightweight, durable, and dry out quicker than most. They also remain cool and breezy in hot climates and wear supremely well.

The pair of large cargo pockets on Muncipal’s Overland Cargo are easy to access and have plenty of space to hold your kit and do it without looking like Urkel. For an equally impressive pocket game, but a more polished look, we recommend looking at Bluffworks Envoy, which stealthily hides nine pockets in the otherwise casual-looking chino. Eddie Bauer’s Guide Pro End-to-Ender is close, with seven practical and accessible pockets.

travel jogger pants mens

With their high CORDURA count, the Eddie Bauers are tough to beat. Ornot’s Mission pants weaves a high nylon count, and come in a very close second for durability.

For long flights on the plane, we like comfortable, casual look with easy pocket access. We give the nod to Municipal’s Overland Cargo. The deep horizontal pockets are easy to access while seated and the high cotton count breathes well.

KÜHL’s Suppressor Joggers have the highest spandex count on the list at 15%. They are super flexible, light, durable, and have a good DWR. For a more formal look, Bluffworks has an equally impressive spandex weave (10%) and is by far the most comfortable pant on our list.

For a good combination of flexibility, durability, and all-around wearability, we recommend Western Rise’s Evolution 2. If you want to splurge, we also liked Proof’s 72-Hour Merino Travel Pant, which blends 6% elastane into the wool-synthetic base. Proof’s pants are nearly a one-and-done purchase. They are durable and stay stench-free on the road, making them the only pants you may need to bring.

After thorough hands-on testing, our editors have reviewed the 18 best men's travel pants below, including notes on their specs, performance, comfort, and any cons we found. When showing up in sweatpants or joggers won’t do, and wearing chinos or jeans on a long trek leaves your lower half feeling suffocated, these best men's travel pants will save the day.

This slim-fit travel trouser has all the hallmarks of your go-to office chinos but with twice the functionality and comfiness factors. Really, a chino that moves like a jogger but looks like a pair of grown-up pants is no wonder Everlane's hero item. And this was in fact handpicked to be tested by our Fashion Director Ted Stafford and then fitted on Bullet Train action star Andrew Koji . Why? Because it will move you from the tarmac to the resort without losing a second of relaxation, courtesy of the spandex four-way stretch that we found was so movement-friendly that we were able to squat and even jog a bit in them with ease. Coupled with a business-casual veneer, these chinos won us over with a versatility that's perfect for traveling, working in the office, or going about your everyday life in a chino style.

After testing it out by wearing these chinos to the office and to travel by flight, our favorite part of Everlane's performance chinos is its sweat-wicking and quick-drying capabilities. I even wore them on hot summer days to stroll under the sun, and the fabric was able to keep my legs feeling cool and dry. Lastly, although the fit leans slim, it hasn’t stifled or smothered the beefy thighs of our testers.

What Do Experts Say? " Everlane’s chino is comfortable to wear for all-day work, parties, or formal events. Plus, it is made from four-way stretchable fabric that prevents it from wear and tear. It is also considered to be a technical pant option because of its sweat-wicking and quick-drying features ," says Susan Gagnon, designer at Costumes Heaven .

Having thoroughly tested Lululemon's ABC pants, we found them to be the comfiest pants to stay classy in our everyday life. Really, its comfort is second to none: with sweat-wicking, quick-drying fabric, amplified four-way stretch, wrinkle resistance, and a comfortable ABC (Anti-Ball Crushing) design, the athleisure brand has managed to infuse its activewear innovation into a classic pant style geared toward everyday life.

Even though they’re partially made with polyester (which isn’t a breathable or stretchy fabric), the main material, called Elastomultiester, comes to save the day. In my experience wearing these, the fabric breathes and wicks away sweat like a beast, and the four-way stretch has made them my go-to pants for commuting to work in the summer. My favorite part is also how light and soft the fabric feels, which is why I always make sure to pack a pair of ABCs for when I’m flying away for a few days.

Read More: Lululemon ABC Pants Review

In fact, I was able to wear these pants multiple days in a row after owning them since 2020, and their stretchy performance has never let me down once. My favorite part about these pants is the anti-ball-crushing tech which I tested out to be a gusset at the crotch and thigh areas that helps relieve tension while walking. Style-wise, while the ABC looks more casual than regular chinos since it's made without cotton, meaning no-brainer versatility as summer pants, spring pants, khaki pants, travel pants, office pants, casual pants... You get the gist.

All in all, Lululemon's ABC pants are what guys have always hoped to find in their everyday slacks, giving you unrestrictive movement and all-day comfort without compromising on an elevated style.

Since launching in 2013, Vuori has been producing versatile pants that you can wear practically anywhere. Case in point: their elastic waist Ripstop pant, which features a modern slim cut and super soft fabric that's perfect for working from home, or trekking to the airport.

Created using Vuori’s Dura Terra ripstop fabric that features a two-way stretch, we found in our testing that these lightweight travel pants with a 33-inch inseam are issued with a gusset for extra roominess too. Their modern and straight-fit cut has let me dress them up or down as I pleased. We also found it to be quite breathable and work well as summer pants.

These pants also have the same tapered style that our testers love, but offer more room to move around despite being a slim fit. The cotton and elastane fabric is lightweight and breathable, and has helped our testers remain comfortable even while being in hot weather for hours. However, the real star is the brand's DuraTerra™ tech in the fabric: a material for active guys that can be sported all day long, for all sorts of activities, thanks to its two-way stretch flexibility, durability, strength, and stain resistance. Hence, our testers have even worn these Vuori pants to hike and bike besides just commuting and running errands.

Not only is this one of the best summer pants we’ve ever tested, but it’s also one of the most versatile and rugged travel pants we’ve tried. Our gear editor, John Thompson, even sported these as hiking pants to the great outdoors to test them and came back singing more than a few praises. Firstly, they’re made of nylon, and one thing about nylon is that it’s going to perform: really, the lightweight activewear fabric is breathable, moisture-wicking, quick-drying, and has a light natural stretch that is now enhanced with 6% of spandex in these pants. Basically, these pants have ventilation and quick-drying in spades.

Let’s talk more about that stretch: our testers found that the fabric thoroughly and easily moved with our legs in our hiking and commuting tests. It's safe to say we love them both on and off the trail, as everyday pants or tough outdoor pants.

Also, a note on how they wear as summer pants: even when the sun is blazing, our legs never felt searing or humid in these slacks. And since the fabric is also treated with UPF 50 protection against sunlight, we wear them outdoors to travel in by default.

Sure, cargo pants fell out of fashion in the last couple of years, but with the emergence of the gorpcore trend embracing all things utilitarian, it’s safe to say they’re back—and looking better than ever.

These cargo pants combine style and functionality seamlessly, courtesy of their performance build. Crafted in a unique knit material, they offer unmatched stretch and mobility for any occasion, making them as comfortable as sports pants but as stylish as casual wear. We also love how they are able to retain their shape wear after wear, wash after wash. The neat built-in UV protection also has let our testers enjoy activities out in the sun worry-free all day long. One tester says he loves how these have stretch and flexibility for hours to keep up with the movement, and how the elastic waistband has always let him ensure a perfect, comfortable fit.

Lastly, with these pants, you can say goodbye to damp discomfort thanks to their quick-drying capabilities that keep moisture at bay, allowing you to stay dry and fresh throughout your pursuits. The fit is roomy above the knees and tailored below, which is versatile for working out and going out.

The brand that specializes in creating functional basics made good with these pants crafted from a high-tech fabric that’s built to brave the elements. The blend of tough polyester and spandex renders the fabric extra rugged and even weather-resistant, to the extent that in our testing, one wearer found it to be water-repellent on rainy days and stain-resistant during accidental coffee spills.

However, according to him, the best part about these travel pants by Mack Weldon isn't just how resilient it is, but also how convenient and comfortable it is too. The back-ribbed ankle cuffs, welt zip pockets, and belt loops in front of and behind the elastic waistband are neat additions, allowing him to get a personalized fit. The spandex stretch in the fabric also optimizes flexibility and mobility, allowing us to move freely and comfortably in any situation; the natural quick-drying property has also kept our wearer fresh and dry even during intense activities in our testing.

While as joggers, these aren't as soft or lounging-friendly as your usual go-tos, we do love Mack Weldon's intelligent design like the stealth zip pockets that offer secure storage while maintaining a streamlined look.

These sweatpants-like travel pants are one of our testers' perennial favorites: according to him, not only do they boast the comfort and softness of sweatpants, but they also are and look versatile for just about everything from flights to working out.

With an elastic drawstring waistband to snug them up just right, and a trouser-like silhouette, we felt that Public Rec's travel pant is as comfortable as your favorite collegiate sweats, yet look like dress pants or office pants for work, thanks to a slim silhouette. You won't be embarrassed to sport these in public. This stylish alternative to the normal sweatpant blows the most comfortable jeans out of the water, and sports tapered legs to help show off your sneakers too.

Our testing also shows that they're truly the all-powerful trousers since they're made with a unique blend of nylon and spandex that feels like a second skin but also offer a natural combo of four-way stretch, moisture-wicking, and breathability. Our testers found that these pants feel like your favorite pair of soft, cozy sweatpants but look like your Monday office bottoms and work like your go-to workout pants. Using a drawstring instead of a button, you can wear this from your office to the gym to the bar—no changing needed.

Personally, I've worn these Public Rec pants for a long travel day that included multiple flights and layovers, from NYC to Denver. Needlessly to say, that was the most comfortable travel day I have ever had, thanks to these pants.

You can tell just by the look of Rhone's commuter pants that they’re comfortable, but let us confirm that for you. Rhone hits the nail on the head with these wrinkle-resistant commuter bottoms that are made from the brand’s premium Flex-Knit fabric. While the fabric is polyester, the material here is reworked to be stretchy and breathable.

The Flex-Knit fabric has the 4-way stretch and recovery of a Stretch Armstrong action figure, and there’s a gusset inserted into the seam to keep your below-the-belt boys breathing easy, all delivered in a timeless silhouette that you’ll keep in your outfit rotation for years to come. Best of all, the brand offers these pants in a ton of color options, both staples you can get year-round and limited-time seasonal colorways.

Designed for today’s ever-connected professional, the pants also boast a media pouch for your phone and a security zipper pocket for your cardholder. In our testers, one wearer also can’t get enough of how sleek it looks with a polo shirt or how comfortable it fits even on the go. However, the only qualm is that the waistband isn't as stretchy and flexible as we'd like it to be.

Columbia’s Flex ROC Pants in a regular fit look just as relaxed in town as they do on a hiking trail. Add to the mix the brand’s Omni-Shade sun protection and multi-purpose pockets and you’re good to go pretty much anywhere.

One tester took these hiking pants to test them in the backcountry and mountains and came back singing more than a few praises: according to him, these are made of naturally breathable, soft, and moisture-wicking cotton. Then, there’s the stretch plus a comfy regular fit that gave him enough room and mobility.

Off-the-trail-wise, we’ve worn them as everyday pants before even in the office, and no one has batted an eye. We also love their utility features like the multi-functional pockets and a zip-up security pocket that keep our essentials and valuables safe and readily accessible.

The Patagonia Skyline Traveler Pant is equipped for the office, trail and travel. Made from a nylon-spandex blend, this pair offers four-way stretch for extra mobility, and a water-repellent shell to keep rain at bay. Our testers compared the feeling of these pants to that of cozy loungewear, but also stylish enough to wear in the city. We also appreciate the zippered thigh pocket to stash any valuables such as credit cards or keys that could get lost in transit.

Day and Night Pant

Alo’s athleisure are comfortable and stylish enough to wear to most errands and casual outings. Take the Day and Night pant. It has a closer fit for a dressier vibe, and there's a hint of stretch for that feels like a breeze to move in. Plus, the performance woven fabric is breathable, moisture-wicking and designed to resist wrinkles.

Our testers have worn these pants from the plane to dinner and still felt fresh. Even on warmer days, these pants don’t cause you to break a sweat, which is a testament to its breathability. The price is higher than most travel pants, but this pair has enough durability to last quite some time without any signs of fading or piling, based on our testing. Another bonus: it’s a fresh take on the classic, four-pocket pant style, which also comes in longer inseams for taller guys.

Banana Republic Brushed Traveler Cargo Pant

Brushed Traveler Cargo Pant

Cargo pants have made a comeback in recent years with options that feel more refined and sleek. Banana Republic’s version does just that, merging style and functionality. We found this pair ideal for extensive days on the road. For maximum comfort, this slim pair is constructed with adjustable slider tabs at the waist to customize the fit. Despite the tailored cut, there’s an incredible amount of stretch for ease of movement.

Our favorite aspect of these pants is the ultra-soft feel of the fabric, which we wanted to keep on for days. We also love the ample amount of pocket space including at the front, back and at the lower sides. It feels super airy and moves seamlessly through the airport, so you don’t experience any heaviness that most baggy cargos can bear. The Brushed Traveler Cargo is thick enough to keep you warm, especially when you’re sitting in the chilly airplane cabin for hours.

Bonobos Extra Stretch Travel Jeans

Extra Stretch Travel Jeans

Just as you'd expect from Bonobos, the brand offers one of the most comfortable jeans on the market, available in every wash you could imagine, with fits that range from tailored to straight. These Extra Stretch Travel Jeans often happen to be a favorite by athletes and active guys who refuse to be tamed by heavy denim fabric.

According to our tester, these jeans in ultra-stretchy cotton merge the performance capabilities of the Bonobos name while maintaining the classic look of a staple pair of denim, making them a superb choice for stylish guys on the move. For instance, ever thought of going for a light jog in jeans? That seems implausible, but not impossible with these extra stretchy jeans that almost feel like sweatpants according to our tester.

Tyler Sellers , a fitness coach and professional athlete, is stoked by Bonobos' versatile offerings. "They produce high-quality clothing in more sizes than most other manufacturers... Bonobos offers all cuts, sizes, and materials on a single product page so you can quickly choose whatever you believe will work best for you," he says. That is also to say you’ll love the fit, four-way stretch, and classic look of these travel jeans, so make room in your closet to stock up on a few pairs.

What Do Experts Say? " What I love about Bonobos is how they cater to any body shape. Their original stretch chino is not only a well-constructed item, but is at a budget price point as well. When shopping this piece keep in mind what fit will work best for your body shape. Larger thighs? Athletic fit is the option for you. Carry a little more weight around your midsection? Stick with the straight fit ," says personal wardrobe stylist Grace Thomas .

Ben Sherman 24/7 Motion Stretch Slim Chino

24/7 Motion Stretch Slim Chino

Old-school chinos were reliable business casual staples but didn't provide much comfort. A suite of forward-thinking labels—Ben Sherman among them—have updated the chino with athleisure-friendly features: stretchy waistbands and water- and wrinkle-resistant fabrics that hold up in all types of conditions without sacrificing style.

Having worn Ben Sherman’s chinos to travel in April and May 2023, I was impressed by how lightweight and smooth the fabric is. While it’s not traditional chino material, I like its nylon blend that is stretchy enough for a squat and sweat-wicking. I also found that while the fit is slim, it is not restricting, and all in all looks great enough for everyday wear as well as the office. At this price, it’s a bang for your buck.

Ben Sherman's chinos are a favorite among stylists, and it's easy to see why: they're made with the ideal bit of stretch, tapered to look sharp, and enhanced with a cotton-nylon blend that provides all-day-long softness. "What I love about Ben Sherman's Chino are their fit, cut, stretch, and a wide variety of colors," says celebrity stylist Lisa Marie Cameron who recommends going for the brand's unique colors to give you an elevated flare, or opting for classics that are easy to pair with your daily wear. "You can't go wrong choosing Ben Sherman's chinos because they are suitable for any occasion. From work to meetings, to date night, to weddings, and everything in between," she highlights. "All it takes is your favorite color, adding your own touch of style and you're ready to tackle the day with whatever you have planned."

Madewell Athletic Slim Jeans

Athletic Slim Jeans

After you’ve nailed your comfort on the fit, the next step is to go after other kinds of comfort—softness, stretch, and coolness—in spades. These Madewell athletic fit jeans are our editor’s tried-and-true favorite: they feel incredibly soft, have more room in the seat and thigh areas for beefy quads but look tapered from the knees down, and move like joggers when worn on the go but still look tailored and elevated; they’re also built with moisture-wicking temperature-regulating tech to keep your legs dry.

Overall, Madewell developed their COOLMAX denim blend to be far more breathable, flexible, and comfortable than regular 100% cotton denim. All three of these properties make them ideal travel pants. You get the look and function of a good pair of jeans that feel as comfortable as track pants.

Brooks Brothers Stretch Advantage Chino® Pants

Stretch Advantage Chino® Pants

Despite being one of the oldest menswear brands, Brooks Brothers' Advantage Chino® pants have the most modern design we've ever tested, from spandex stretch to cotton twill softness to a wrinkle-resistant fabric to five different fits that cater to just about every guy. Marcos Martinez , a lifestyle influencer, verifies how these pants meet all the demands in chinos. "The chinos should have a flexible waistband to give comfort and breathing room around the waist. The material should be mostly cotton twill and part spandex for flexibility," says Martinez.

If you're concerned that a legacy menswear label like Brooks Brothers decided to go for a more modern, performance-minded fabric with stretch for its chinos, we found that not only did they give us a perfect fit right off the shelf, but they also felt incredibly comfortable and have managed to stay crisp for almost a year—far better than chinos made with full. The touch of stretch and flexibility especially helped our tester wear them to travel or commute throughout the day, and the overall elegant look kept us looking sharp. Plus, with enough fits and sizes for anything from extra slim to extra large, whatever your body type is, rest assured that Brooks Brothers' chinos have you covered.

L.L.Bean Venture Stretch Five-Pocket Pants

Venture Stretch Five-Pocket Pants

A pair ideal for anyone who spends an equal amount of time at the office as they do in the great outdoors—and travels tons to get there. These stretchy and hard-wearing L.L.Beans can repel water yet still offer ample smartness for business days.

Roark Layover 2.0 Pants

Layover 2.0 Pants

Roark’s travel pants are constructed from a blended stretch canvas and feature a ventilated back yoke-mesh panel. Then there are all the compartments: two large zipped front pockets with inner storage sleeves, two buttoned back pockets, and a super-handy stash pouch at the rear for your phone.

How to Choose the Best Men's Travel Pants

commerce breaker

Comfort, mobility, and a nice fit are key elements to be on the lookout for when finding the best men's travel pants.

Fabric: The whole point of travel pants is that they should look like regular chinos or slacks while feeling like athletic pants when you're wearing them. They should be lightweight, flexible, and breathable. That means you want to look for a fabric blend that has some stretch in it and at least half polyester or Tencel fiber in the mix. Some brands will put cotton or wool in the mix to keep the business look and shape. The one thing to avoid is when brands go overboard with the stretch. If there is more than 10% elastin or spandex in the mix, your pants are going to look too casual and won't hold a proper shape.

Performance: Features like quick-drying and moisture-wicking are essential for comfort, keeping your legs cool and dry throughout your traveling. Wrinkle resistance in travel pants also helps you maintain a neat appearance without ironing. If you're traveling to a sunny destination, consider travel pants with built-in UV protection to shield your skin from harmful rays. And if you're packing travel pants, make sure the ones you get are lightweight.

Stretch: Travel pants are known for their ability to move with our legs and cater to our movement, so stretch is essential—whether it's a natural stretch or courtesy of a few percentages of elastane, spandex, or lycra.

Fit: Good travel pants should have a business-casual look. You want them to fit like a pair of cotton chinos or wool slacks. This means whatever style of fit you wear in those pants, you want the same fit in your travel pants. There may be a compulsion to go slimmer since it's a stretch pant. If you wear a straight-leg chino, do get slim-fit travel pants. If you wear slim-fit jeans, don't get skinny-fit travel jeans. Stick to your go-to fit.

Look: A lot of brands have gotten into the travel pants game in the past few years which means there is a lot of variety in looks out there. It's important to remember that your travel pants are a replacement for regular pants and should look the part. Stick to traditional colors like Navy, Black, Gray, Olive, and Khaki. You want them to be versatile and understated. Avoid the aqua blues and dusty oranges.

Pockets: While travel pants should look like normal pants, their functionality for ease on the go is key. Since you'll likely carry your travel and everyday essentials with you while you wear travel pants, you want to make sure you have enough deep pockets because you need to carry stuff on the go and don't want to worry about anything falling out when you sit down. Travel pants with hidden or zippered pockets for added security are also worth the buy.

Frequently Asked Questions

line

What are the best overall travel pants?

For catching flights, commuting, running everyday errands, or going to the office—all while looking good—the best men's travel pants overall are Lululemen's ABC Pant . It has a four-way stretch, feels soft, is made with breathable, moisture-wicking, and quick-drying fabric, comes with a gusset that relieves tension from your crutch while walking, and dons the classic chino style. You can probably squeeze in a few workouts or hikes in them too.

What Types of Pants Make the Best Travel Pants?

Jeans designed with stretch and moisture-wicking properties provide comfort without sacrificing the classic style and are perfect for urban exploration and casual outings. Classic chinos updated with stretch and quick-drying features are ideal for a polished look while on the move or for formal occasions. Joggers and sweatpants made with soft and breathable materials are suitable for long flights or casual activities. Cargo pants that are lightweight give you easy access to essentials while you're traveling. Hiking pants also make great travel pants since they're bound for outdoor adventures.

What are the best travel pants for men to wear on an airplane?

The best men's travel pants for men to wear on an airplane combine comfort, style, and functionality. Joggers and sweatpants, for instance, offer stretch and lounging-like comfort to provide ease of movement during long flights. Jeans made from stretch denim and moisture-wicking properties provide a sharp look while ensuring comfort during your flights. Chinos made with stretch and breathable materials are also good for long flights and staying polished. Lounge pants are soft, breathable, and often come in a relaxed fit that'll provide extended comfort.

What is the best material for travel pants? While cotton is a solid choice since it's naturally breathable and stretchy and even moisture-wicking, the best men's travel pants will incorporate activewear materials. Nylon is a popular choice for travel pants due to its durability, natural breathability, and quick-drying properties. Similar to nylon, polyester is moisture-wicking, quick-drying, and lightweight, but needs to be made with stretch. Denim designed with moisture-wicking and stretch is also foolproof if you're looking for jeans as travel pants. Ideally, the best men's travel pants will come in blended fabrics that combine the best qualities of different materials.

Pants might be the first thing you think about when planning or packing for a trip, and prioritizing comfort on long—or short—trips is essential. A good pair of travel pants will be stylish and functional. Ideally, they’ll be suitable for multiple uses on a trip, like going from the trail to a restaurant. We scoured the internet and tapped some of our well-traveled editors to find the best joggers, trousers, and adventure pants with an eye toward materials, durability, and style.

Final Verdict

  • What to Look For

Why Trust TripSavvy

Best overall, vuori ripstop pant.

Seven color options available

Include a zip pocket

Some might not like slim fit

Vuori’s Ripstop Pants are our go-to for flights. The main reason is they’re comfy. Vuori’s proprietary ripstop fabric—a blend of organic cotton and elastane—has enough stretch and durability and looks good. We love pants that don’t require a belt, especially when moving through TSA. These pants have an elastic waistband with a drawcord.

One nitpick with these pants is that the material attracts dog hair. But that’s probably not a total dealbreaker, depending on your pet situation. Having owned these pants for a couple of years, our tester mentioned zero concerns for durability or wear and tear.

Sizes: XS to XXL | Materials: DuraTerra ripstop fabric (98 percent organic cotton and 2 percent elastane | Sustainability: Organic cotton

Best Overall, Runner-Up

Patagonia skyline traveler pants.

Backcountry

Allow natural and active mobility

DWR finish helps repel spills

Environmentally conscious sourcing and production

A bit on the pricey side

Limited sizing

Patagonia’s Skyline Traveler Pants are ideal for road trips. These pants feel slightly less suited for airports and restaurants but are perfect for hiking, backpacking, or moving around cities. They feature a nylon, polyester, and spandex blend that our tester found exceptionally comfortable. The four-way stretch is excellent for mobility, and the elastic waistband and drawcord design boost a secure yet flexible hold.

We also love that these pants have five pockets, including one zippered on the thigh. And after a year of real-world testing, we can happily report zero durability issues. Because it's Patagonia, you also get planet-friendly features like recycled nylon and Fair Trade certification.

Sizes: S to XL | Materials: 64 percent recycled nylon, 25 percent polyester, 11 percent spandex | Sustainability: Fair Trade certified, recycled nylon

Coalatree Trailhead Pant

Functional treatments

Very durable

Probably too casual for business settings

Our tester has owned this pair of pants longer than any other on this list, and they are still like new. That’s thanks to their tear-resistant construction, four-way stretch, and DWR coating. The antimicrobial fabrics also mean less washing over their lifetime.

Because of all this, these pants are excellent for hiking, bike commuting, and traveling. We love that they come in both slim and regular fit, six colors, and both men’s and women’s cuts. Since they’re also one of the least expensive options on this list, we recommend stocking up on two or three pairs.

Sizes: XS to XXL | Materials: FairWear 88 percent nylon, 12 percent spandex with DWR finish | Sustainability: FairWear and recycled materials

Most Comfortable

Kuhl freeflex jogger.

UV protective

Super lightweight

Could also work as hiking pants

Multiple lengths and cuts

No recycled/sustainable materials

Kuhl says these pants feature a “luxuriously soft and lightweight softshell,” and we’d have to agree. These polyester pants are so comfortable that our tester has been using them as loungers at home and as travel pants. We also recommend these pants for anyone who tends to run warm or will be going on outdoor adventures where pants are necessary, but the temps outside are warm. In particular, we view these as solid desert or beach pants thanks to the UPF 50+ rating.

These pants are breathable, wick away moisture well, and are quick to dry. And if you’re not into the jogger style, the same version of these pants comes in a traditional pant silhouette.

Sizes: S to XXL | Materials: Polyester | Sustainability: Not listed

DU/ER Performance Denim Slim

Very comfy and stretchy

Offered in multiple fits

Ideal for hiking, cycling, and going to the office or restaurant

A bit pricey

Anytime we see anything related to performance denim, we automatically think it’s gimmicky. So we were skeptical when we first tried DU/ER’s performance denim pants. But, we must say, many bike commutes to the office and the local brewery later, these pants are the real deal. We usually hate bike commuting in denim because of the lack of stretch, but what stood out to us immediately about the pants is how much stretch they have. That’s thanks to a blend of organic cotton and polyester with a touch of spandex.

These pants are also decent—not great, but decent—at wicking moisture, thanks to the CoolMax polyester. And an antimicrobial treatment helps ward off stink, making these pants good for a few wears between washes. If the slim fit is not for you, the same performance denim pants come in relaxed and straight fits.

Sizes: 28 to 40 (waist), 30 to 34 (inseam) | Materials: 70 percent organic cotton, 28 percent CoolMax all-season polyester, 2 percent Lycra spandex | Sustainability: Organic cotton

Best Jogger

Du/er no sweat jogger.

Belt optional

Stretchy and cozy

Lots of colors to pick from

Pricey and no sustainable fabrics mentioned

First things first, these joggers are comfy. Our tester repeatedly reached for these joggers while lounging at home, mainly when it was chilly outside. But like the DU/ER performance denim pants above, we were skeptical about the gimmicky “No Sweat” in these joggers’ name. Our tester, who runs warm and sweats easily, was pleasantly surprised to discover these pants do a fairly good job of keeping sweat away. That’s because of the blend of TENCEL Lyocell, Lycra T400 Polyester, and Lycra spandex.

These pants also have some nice features like a zippered thigh pocket, a drawstring, and belt loops.

Sizes: 28 to 40 (waist), 29 and 31 (inseam) | Materials: 62 cotton, 34 percent TENCEL Lyocell, 3 percent Lycra T400 Polyester, 1 percent Lycra spandex | Sustainability: Not listed

Chubbies Everywear Performance Pant

More modern style

DWR coating

Fit may be baggy on slimmer frames

Chubbies, which dubs itself as the original “short shorts” brand, released its first pair of pants a couple of months ago. And while they’re not short, they are incredibly comfortable thanks to a polyester and spandex blend. We didn’t include a true chino on this list, but these are probably the closest to it because of their look and lightweight feel.

We view these pants as best on the list for urban, beach, or golf travel . They just have that look, style, and feel about them. They’d also work well in the office or for work trips, but we’ve got a pair of pants specifically for work below.

Sizes: S to XXL | Materials: 90 percent polyester and 10 percent spandex | Sustainability: Not listed

Best for Work

Mack weldon radius flex jogger.

Mack Weldon

Non-wrinkly, breathable fabric

Sleek, versatile look

Water resistant

Not adjustable

Business travelers expect more out of their pants. Yes, they must be lightweight, comfortable, and allow easy movement, but most importantly, they also have to look the part in more formal settings. That's why we've chosen the Radius Flex Jogger. The polyester/spandex is airy and durable with the right amount of give, easily taking you from long flights and taxi rides to the boardroom and later to local eateries. The waist is flexible with a button-fly closure, and the belt loops offer the ability to formalize an outfit even more. All your essentials are securely within reach thanks to several "stealth zip" pockets for less obtrusive zipper pulls. Count on two pockets at the front, two at the back, plus one on the left thigh.

Sizes: S to XXL | Materials: 91 percent polyester, 9 percent spandex | Sustainability: Not listed

Best for Cold Weather

Unbound merino men's merino travel pants.

Unbound Merino

Hidden rear zipper pocket

Low-maintenance

Planet-friendly product

Not ideal for high-intensity activities

While we've chosen the Merino Travel Pants as the best option for cold weather destinations, this wonder fabric's utility goes far beyond that. This fine wool naturally regulates body temperature by wicking moisture away from your skin when you sweat, helps insulate you from the cold when worn as a base layer , and also keeps you fresh in warmer temperatures.

Unbound Merino added a small amount of elastane for a two-way stretch that bounces back to its original shape. These pants are light and wrinkle-resistant, so wear them onboard or pack them in your bag without worrying about unsightly creases. Other highlights include sustainable sourcing and production and an understated and polished style.

Sizes: 28 to 40 (waist), 30, 32 (inseam) | Materials: 95 percent merino wool, 5 percent elastane | Sustainability: Natural materials, NATIVA-certified, Responsible Wool Standard certified, Green OEKO-TEX certified

Best for Adventure Travel

Livsn ecotrek trail pants.

Well-designed, technical pant

Reflective tab for cuffing

Better suited to casual settings

These are the pants you want to pack for active, adventure-filled, thrill-seeking trips, especially in warmer weather. They feature articulated knees, a diamond gusset crotch, and more stretch than meets the eye—a definite pro in our book—for unparalleled freedom of movement and support to summit that peak or reach that next handhold. With plenty of storage solutions, we find the zippered rear pockets and the sideseam welt pockets on either leg particularly useful.

Sizes: 29 to 40 (waist), 30, 32, 34 (inseam) | Materials: 70 percent Blue Ocean nylon, 25 percent nylon, 5 percent spandex twill | Sustainability: Made with recovered fishing buoys, Repair and Replacement Program

Best for Fishing

Free fly apparel stretch canvas pant.

Free Fly Apparel

Unrestricted mobility

Versatile enough to dress up

Mitigates solar radiation

Limited colorways

If you’re traveling specifically to fish—or if your trip will include fishing—we highly recommend including Free Fly Apparel’s Stretch Canvas 5 Pocket Pants. These pants are durable and comfy and feature four-way stretch and UPF 50+ sun protection. We love that they also look stylish enough to fit in many office settings and restaurants. We wish these pants came in more than just three colors, but besides that, these are our go-to fishing pants.

Sizes: 30 to 40 (waist), 30 to 34 (inseam) | Materials: 70 percent cotton, 28 percent bamboo, 2 percent spandex | Sustainability: Use of bamboo

Best Lightweight

Cotopaxi veza adventure pants.

Has a "barely there" feeling

Lifetime warranty including repairs

Secret storage

More casual than versatile

Limited shades available

The Veza Adventure Pants are a classic from Cotopaxi. These super lightweight and relaxed pants are comfy and will fit many body types. We like the tapered legs that also allow plenty of room with the baggier fit and the “invisible” zippered stash pocket inside the wearer’s front right pocket.

We do wish the flat elastic drawstring were easier to tighten and that these pants came in more than three colors. But those are just nitpicks on an excellent and comfortable pair of travel pants.

Sizes: S to XXL | Materials: 91 percent nylon, 9 percent spandex | Sustainability: Focus on durability and repairs, certified B Corp

Best for Rain

Patagonia granite crest pants.

Excellent just-in-case item

Functional details

Eco-conscious sourcing and production

We don’t necessarily recommend wearing rain pants to the airport or on road trips. But if you’re traveling to a rainy environment, we recommend packing a pair. That’s where the Patagonia Granite Crest Pants come in. These lightweight and highly packable rain pants are excellent at repelling water.

They also boast some helpful features like zippers below the knee to put on over shoes or boots, zippered and seam-seeled pockets, and a wide range of sizes. And because it’s Patagonia, you know our planet was taken into consideration with the construction of these pants. They’re made of post-consumer recycled ripstop nylon from recycled fishing nets and feature Patagonia’s proprietary H2NO DWR finish, which is free of harmful chemicals.

Sizes: XS to XXL | Materials: 100 percent post-consumer recycled nylon ripstop made from recycled fishing nets | Sustainability: Fair Trade Certified, recycled nylon, PFC-free DWR finish

Most Packable

Western rise evolution pant.

Western Rise

Feels soft, hangs tough

Occupies minimal suitcase space

Odor-resistant

Some will prefer more zippered pockets

Light, stretchy, and durable, the Evolution Pant checks all the boxes. The nylon fibers are processed to be softer against the skin and then woven into a hardwearing yarn that resembles denim with added functionality. The slim cut provides a casual sleekness that easily goes from Japanese urban streets to bustling Moroccan markets .

At a featherweight of 11 ounces, these are incredibly packable and will leave tons of room for the trinkets you acquire along your journey. There is a rear security pocket for valuables and a DWR treatment to help keep any unexpected showers and spills at bay.

Sizes: 28 to 40 (waist), short, regular (inseam) | Materials: 90 percent nylon, 10 percent elastane | Sustainability: CO PFA-free treatment

If you pack only one pair of pants, make it the Vuori Ripstop Pants . Its in-house blend of organic cotton and elastane hits the mark on durability and stretch, and the hybrid drawstring, button-fly closure is comfortable and chic. If there's room for another—especially for a road trip— Patagonia's Skyline Traveler Pants is our reliable second choice.

We selected products based on internet research and our knowledge of travel pants. We considered pants featured on other prominent sites and pants and brands we already own and wear regularly.

What to Look For in Travel Pants

Most pants will have synthetic materials like nylon and polyester for their water resistance, durability, and versatility. Some travel pants on this list and elsewhere primarily use cotton, which can be good for comfort but isn't as solid for moisture-wicking or breathability. We included pants of both types of material, because this comes down to personal preference.

Generally, if your travel will include higher-intensity movement, or you want to prioritize breathability, moisture-wicking, and stretch, we suggest looking for nylon- and polyester-based pants. But if you’re not concerned about those features and prefer a softer pair of pants, look for cotton-based trousers.

This one is tough to judge just by looking at a pair of pants online, but there are some indicators to look for if durability is one of your priorities in purchasing a pair of travel pants (which it probably should be). Look for “ripstop” materials if you’re looking for extra-durable pants. Of the men's travel pants we tested, we only included options on this list that have been particularly durable throughout testing.

Again, this is subjective and comes down to personal preference. But it is something to consider when picking traveling pants. We recommend having a pair of comfortable pants that will also be appropriate for work or nicer restaurants and a pair that will work for more active trips that involve hiking , fishing, or running.

The cut or silhouette of the pants will influence the formality of an outfit. A relaxed or slim cut offers more versatility though it lends itself better to dressing up. A more dramatic jogger fit with its tapered lower leg is trendy and gives an active, casual look.

The ones you feel most comfortable wearing! Think about temperature and movement. You may prefer lightweight and stretchy pants if you tend to run warm and move a lot. Are you cold in airports and on planes? Consider some heavier-weight pants. Do you fidget a lot? Definitely get some stretchy pants. But the answer to this question comes down to personal preference.

They definitely can be good for traveling, especially if you’re headed directly to work or an event. Chinos have the look of trousers but are generally lighter weight and offer more stretch and breathability, thanks to their lightweight twill or cotton construction. If your travel is more wilderness or outdoor-based, we recommend other pants on this list (like the Patagonia Skyline Pants ).

We always recommend reading the manufacturer's instructions on the pants or the company’s website. That said, travel pants are generally built to be durable and resilient. So most will be fine tossing into the washer and dryer.

  • Buying Considerations

Why You Should Trust Us

Final verdict, 1. best overall: tropicfeel chino pant.

Why They’re Great: As far as the travel pants go, this pair from Tropicfeel is unmatched. This brand is dedicated to upgrading modern travel gear, and these pants ensure guys stay comfortable wherever life takes them. Thanks to the chino design, they’re easy to dress up or keep casual, making them a highly versatile choice for any kind of trip.

Featuring a packable design – they fold up into a pouch attached to the back pocket – and water-repellent material, they look like classic slacks but have all the qualities of tactical pants. They’re breathable with stretch, have zippered back pockets, and even use a little reflective strip on the cuffs to keep you visible at night. Not to mention, they’re a carbon neutral product. This is the definition of pulling out all the stops to create the best, most comfortable travel pants for men.

How They Feel: Crafted from a cotton, TENCEL lyocell, and spandex blend, these pants are supremely lightweight and ultra-breathable. The cotton ensures softness, while the TENCEL lyocell, made from biodegradable wood pulp, contributes to the breathable, wrinkle-resistant traits. Finished with a touch of spandex for extra stretch, they’re designed to move with you wherever your adventures lead.

Flaws But Not Dealbreakers: Due to the lightweight construction of these travel pants, they’re best for warmer months. You may find them a bit thin for winter wear.

Material : 79% cotton, 19% TENCEL lyocell, 2% spandex | Sizes Available : S – XL | Colors Available : 3 | Fit : Slim

2. Best Budget: Jockey Active Joggers

Why They’re Great: If you’re a sweatpants on travel days kind of guy, these are a top choice. A great budget friendly option, these have a classic jogger style made from a polyester blend for comfort and stretch. You won’t find yourself constantly readjusting thanks to the sturdy elastic waist and ribbed cuffs that keep these travel pants in place, even while on the move. And the best part? Zippered pockets – a rarity when it comes to men’s joggers. Since they have a pared-back black design, they’re easy to wear every day of your trip.

How They Feel: Lined with fleece, these sweats will keep you toasty on chilly airplanes and make them awesome for lounging when you’re not using them as travel pants. Rather than open ankles, they have ribbed cuffs that trap heat and prevent them from riding up.

Flaws But Not Dealbreakers: Despite the fleecy lining, these are lightweight travel pants for men, which can throw off guys who are expecting a heavier pair of trousers.

Material : 62% polyester, 34% rayon, 4% spandex | Sizes Available : S – XL | Colors Available : 5 | Fit : Slim Tapered

3. Best Luxury: Luca Faloni Pure Cashmere Joggers

Why They’re Great: If comfort is a top priority, these joggers take the cake. Made from the finest Italian cashmere, these upscale sweats are supreme for long travel days and exploring new cities. Designed with a tapered fit, drawstring waistband, and side pockets, these travel pants are flattering and by far the coziest on this list, ideal for ski trips and cold weather destinations. Dress them up with a crisp button down and a pair of Chelsea boots.

How They Feel: These pants feel like crawling into a warm bed after a long day. The cashmere is extremely soft against the skin while being breathable enough to keep you from sweating. They have plenty of stretch, and the elastic cuffs around the ankles ensure they stay in place throughout any voyage.

Flaws But Not Dealbreakers: It’s tricky to find flaws with pants this nice. However, the only negative aspects about these men’s joggers are the pockets don’t zip, and they’re pretty pricey. But hey, cashmere never comes cheap.

Material : 100% two ply pure cashmere | Sizes Available : XS – 2XL | Colors Available : 6 | Fit : Slim Tapered

4. Best Everyday: Lee Extreme Motion Cargo Pant

Why They’re Great: Denim brand powerhouse Lee knows a thing or two about men’s pants . These chino-cargo hybrids embody the top qualities of both styles. They’re sophisticated enough to wear out to that fancy dinner you have planned, while packed with practical features so you can explore during the day in comfort.

In addition to the side and back pockets, these pants have dual zippered cargo pockets on each leg (perfect for valuables) and seven neutral colorways to choose from. To ensure the perfect fit, there are also four different lengths.

How They Feel: These pants have the appearance of men’s chinos with the stretch of joggers. The elastic waist consists of active stretch fabric with a button fly closure, while the pants themselves have enough flexibility to curl up in a window seat or run to catch a train. The straight leg is slimmer than traditional cargos without sacrificing breathing room.

Flaws But Not Dealbreakers: The only downside of these men’s travel pants is the main pockets are pretty shallow and may not fit newer phones. Good thing there are deep cargo pockets on the side of each leg.

Material : 98% cotton, 2% spandex | Sizes Available : 30 – 42 | Colors Available : 7 | Fit : Straight Leg

5. Best Relaxed: Closed Nanaimo Pants

Why They’re Great: For streetwear-inspired travel pants for men, we’re huge fans of the Nanaimo Pants by Closed. While the brand normally specializes in denim, they’ve created the ideal cotton travel pants with exposed seams, a contrasting drawstring waist, and a relaxed fit.

Stash your passport in the deep front pocket and pair them with solid colored shirts or hoodies. When you get where you’re going, these travel pants double as everyday trousers to explore in style.

How They Feel: Made from durable Italian cotton, these pants are soft with plenty of structure. Since they’re woven with a twisted yarn, they have a solid mid-weight making them stellar for four-season wear. We also always love an elastic waist, especially on long travel days and for indulging in hearty local cuisines.

Flaws But Not Dealbreakers: The relaxed fit of these pants may be a bit baggy for some men’s tastes, especially if you prefer a more polished look.

Material : 100% cotton | Sizes Available : 33 – 38 | Colors Available : 3 | Fit : Relaxed

6. Best Slim: SpecialMagic Slim Casual Pants

Why They’re Great: Thanks to strict course dress codes, golfers know a thing or two about performance trousers that look good. Whether you wear them at the club or on the concourse, these are among the best casual pants for men if you’re looking for a more sophisticated style of travel pants.

Featuring a flattering slim fit, they have everything we love about men’s travel pants: a stretchy design, moisture and wrinkle-wicking fabric, an elastic waist, and multiple deep zippered pockets. They’re flattering, versatile, and perfect for wearing on any voyage. Crumple them in the bottom of your bag and they’ll still look good as new when it’s time to get dressed.

How They Feel: These lightweight travel pants for men are made from an active, waterproof material that feels soft against the skin. The fabric is super stretchy and suitable for casual or dynamic movement, which is why we love wearing them on trips.

Flaws But Not Dealbreakers: Studded with rave reviews, these pants don’t have many faults. Though you may want to consult the sizing chart before ordering to ensure you have the right length.

Material : 96% polyamide, 4% elastane | Sizes Available : 30 – 40 | Colors Available : 13 | Fit : Slim

7. Best Straight Leg: Dockers City Tech Trousers

Why They’re Great: With a distinct khaki-like appearance, these tech trousers are filled with four-way stretch, allowing you a full range of motion, unlike traditional rigid slacks. Due to their flexibility, they make wonderful travel pants for men on business or guys who simply like to look good on the go.

The straight leg makes them easy to pair with wardrobe staples , whether you style them with a simple white tee or a button down and sweater. Plus, we always love the addition of a hidden security pocket.

How They Feel: Crafted from a blend of cotton, polyester, and a generous amount of elastane, these men’s travel pants are breathable and supremely comfortable. Due to the mix of materials, they stay wrinkle-free and wick moisture to keep you looking and feeling your very best.

Flaws But Not Dealbreakers: These pants’ polyester fabric makes them less sturdy and durable than your average chinos. That said, fabric also makes them some of the most lightweight and comfortable trousers. They can also pass as dress pants for men in a pinch while traveling.

Material : 55% cotton, 37% polyester, 8% elastane | Sizes Available : 29 – 42 | Colors Available : 6 | Fit : Straight Leg

8. Best on Amazon: Lululemon ABC Pants

Why They’re Great: Well revered as some of the most comfortable travel pants for men, lululemon created this garment with all day comfort in mind. They have four way stretch and plenty of breathing room, despite the flattering straight leg fit.

But what we really love is the durability of these modern trousers . lululemon uses abrasion-resistant fabric that won’t snag or tear even if it takes a beating. Wear them for business travel, throughout the backcountry, or atop a bike – there’s even reflective tape on the cuffs. You no longer have to sacrifice your look for a full range of motion.

How They Feel: Like most travel pants, these appear to be your run of the mill slacks, but feel like your favorite athletic gear. The four-way stretch ensures they’ll never restrict your movement, and the five pockets (four classic and one hidden) are a nice addition to ensure there’s room for all your essentials while on the go . After all, ABC stands for “Always Be Comfortable.”

Flaws But Not Dealbreakers: Definitely consult the sizing chart before ordering to ensure the pants don’t end up too baggy.

Material : 54% elastomultiester, 33% cotton, 13% elastane | Sizes Available : 28 – 36 | Colors Available : 5 | Fit : Straight Leg

Buying Considerations for the Best Travel Pants for Men

The best travel pants for men come in all shapes, sizes, and styles. When choosing a pair, it’s important to consider how they fit, as this majorly impacts how they’ll look and feel when you’re wearing them.

In general, travel pants come in a few main fits. Here’s what to expect from each:

Straight Leg: This fit has straight legs from the waist to the ankle, resulting in a slightly relaxed look. It’s worth consulting the sizing chart before buying straight leg travel pants to ensure they aren’t too baggy on your frame.

Slim: Slim travel pants are some of the most flattering, with a tapered leg that narrows as it reaches the ankle. Slim travel pants are a solid choice for business travel or looking good on the go because they result in a more polished appearance, especially when styled with a smart top.

Jogger: The jogger fit is also slim, however, it tapers more than the previous style and often has ribbed cuffs around the ankles. The jogger fit is best for casual travel, especially if they’re paired with a men’s sweatpants material.

Functionality

Functionality is everything when it comes to men’s travel pants because you want a pair that works with you instead of against you.

Travel pants should have the look of classic trousers with the functionality of the best tactical pants. This means they should have some stretch for an increased range of motion and (hopefully) zippered pockets to keep your belongings secure.

Some travel pants go further with a packable design, hidden security pockets, and reflective tape on the cuffs, which makes them even better for wearing on the move. Functionality also plays out in qualities like quick drying and wrinkle resistance, which will keep them looking fresh until the end of your trip.

Finally, the material of the best travel pants for men impacts the fit, functionality, and overall look and feel of the trousers.

Most travel pants are made from some sort of blend, combining cotton or polyester for softness and elastane or spandex for stretch. These blends are often lightweight and super comfortable, with useful moisture- and wrinkle-wicking properties.

However, you’ll also find travel pants in luxurious materials like cashmere or fleece, which are great for winter wear and keep you warm during cold weather travel.

I’ve been traveling full time for the past five years, and over this period, I’ve been consistently hunting for the best travel pants. To date, I’ve tested more than twenty-five pairs of pants. What can I say? I’m a sucker for comfort and versatility.

Each time I come across a new pair of travel pants, I wear them on my adventures, rigorously testing them for durability, functionality, and overall feel. I’ve shared my findings in the product choices above to make someone’s trip a bit more enjoyable. Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or setting off on your very first journey, these men’s travel pants will get you there in comfort and style.

While there are dozens of pairs to choose from, the ultimate best travel pants for men are the Tropicfeel Chino Pant . They embody everything we love about men’s travel pants: breathable material, innovative design, and plenty of functionality. They also look sharp, making them a versatile piece that you’ll wear for years to come.

If you’re looking for a less expensive alternative, the Jockey Active Joggers are budget friendly and have zippered pockets, which are extra handy for travel.

The most durable travel pants are lululemon ABC Pants , which are crafted from an abrasion-resistant material that prevents them from snagging or ripping.

The Tropicfeel Chino Pant is among the most lightweight travel pants for men and is especially practical if you’re looking for tactical pants that look like classic slacks.

The best pants to wear on a plane are comfortable, breathable, and with zippered pockets, like the Tropicfeel Chino Pant , the lululemon ABC Pants or the Lee Extreme Motion Cargo Pants .

Pants are probably the top choice for what to wear when traveling, over shorts and skirts. However, not all pants are created equal.

Pants can come with a variety of problems: waistbands digging into your skin, fabric wrinkling, or not being able to wear them with any other outfits. You may find yourself wishing you could just wear sweatpants and call it a day. However, sweatpants don’t exactly have a reputation of being stylish, so,  if you want to travel and still have a little style, we’ve got you covered.

There are four key elements that go into the best travel pants: comfort, fabric, style, and versatility. These options for men and women tick all the boxes, so you know you’re making a good investment. Below you’ll find categories for athleisure, activewear, and business casual, as well as many styles including plus-size options.

FAQ About Travel Pants

What are the best travel pants for long flights.

As most things, it depends on your circumstances. If you are just traveling for leisure, a basic legging will do the trick for women, and you can’t go wrong with the Women’s UA Motion Ankle Leggings . They are a typical legging, with a pocket to keep anything you want handy while traveling, they allow for movement, and are super breathable, making them perfect for any trip you take. For men, the Public Rec All Day Everyday pants are our pick. More stylish than sweatpants, but just as comfortable, you’ll be a happy traveler when you wear these! As far as something dressier goes, for guys we pick the Prana Brion Pant II . They are super comfortable with 5 convenient pockets, and can easily be dressed up when you need them to be. For Women, our top choice is the Cotidie Harriet Trousers they are insanely comfortable, yet super stylish.

What are the most comfortable travel pants?

This depends on your personal preference, but typically, the simpler, and the more stretch, the more comfortable they are going to be. Alo’s ⅞ High-Waist Airlift leggings are a basic legging, but are soft, stretchy, and are probably the closest you will come to wearing pajamas while you travel. Again, for men the Public Rec All Day Everyday are going to give you the most comfort while on the road.

Should I wear shorts or pants on a plane?

It’s really a personal choice—but just keep in mind that it can get chilly on airplanes. You also may want to consider  your bare legs hitting up against the seat at the airport and on the plane, if you aren’t going to be able to shower shortly after you land, you may want to consider pants so you don’t have to worry about germs.

What material is best for travel?

Again, this can boil down to personal preference, however, a lightweight, breathable, stretchy material is going to be best. Typically stretchier material won’t wrinkle, which is an added bonus on top of comfort.

On Running Pants

Over the years, I’ve collected quite a few pairs of joggers. To me, joggers are different from sweatpants. The feature of joggers should have qualities suited for travel, exercise and comfort.

Joggers let you feel casual, yet decent. They function as athleisure pants, but you can often (and secretly) dress them up. They’re chill and versatile, and I tend to put them on for travel days or simply working at home.

In this article, I’ll go over some of the best joggers that I’ve come across and tested. Make sure to look closely at how they fit me, to see which may be ideal for your body type and style.

I hope you find your next favorite travel joggers in the list that follows!

Public Rec All Day Every Day Jogger

The Public Rec joggers are what originally turned me onto joggers in the first place. Before I owned these, I didn’t really know how comfy joggers could be.

My thoughts about these joggers feel opinionated, if that makes sense. Let me explain. They hold their shape really well, and have more of a stiff framework. If you think about how you can roll sweatpants into a ball, these are the opposite of that.

travel jogger pants mens

They are not stiff in terms of comfort, though. They are soft, comfortable and versatile. You can wear the Public Rec All Day Every Day Joggers with a wide variety of tops to make your outfit complete.

I usually wear a T-shirt or a hoodie by default, but you can wear a nicer sweater and dress these up a bit. They’d look fine. You can also buy a matching pair for a woman in your life, as my wife Becca already reviewed the Public Rec joggers for women .

Level of activity I would recommend with these

Before I had any real type of running pants, I would actually run in these. I would only wear them running when the temperature was hovering around 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

travel jogger pants mens

I wouldn’t really recommend these as running pants, but I would recommend them if you want something to assist in your comfort for light activity. Going for walks, having a catch, playing with a niece or nephew are all par for the course.

travel jogger pants mens

Do I recommend the Public Rec All Day Every Day Joggers?

Yes. I recommend these, and they are up these with some of my favorite joggers that I own. If you are on the fence with sizing, pick something on the smaller side. They run a tiny bit big, in my opinion.

Stay comfortable all day with the Public Rec All Day Every Day Jogger, designed for an active lifestyle.

Western Rise Spectrum Jogger

Western Rise , a brand from which I’ve sourced an entry on my list of the best travel pants for men , has debuted the Spectrum travel joggers , which are meant to be okay both for light athletics and casual wear.

These versatile joggers for men happen to be perfect for travel, because of the stretchy fabric that’s breathable, moisture-wicking and comfy. I’d for sure wear these on a flight or as soon as I get to my hotel and need to lounge around and decompress.

Western Rise markets these joggers as being meant to “replace sweatpants and casual chinos” rolled into one. What you’ll see about the fit is that they’re a bit baggier (rather, not as form-fitting) as other joggers, and they do look a little bit more like loungey sweatpants.

One great feature is a slim hidden zipper pocket.

Sizing comes in S through XXL, and you’ll find a helpful sizing guide on the Spectrum Jogger product page .

Run freely in the Western Rise Spectrum Jogger, designed for maximum comfort and mobility.

lululemon ABC Jogger Warpstreme

Let’s talk about lululemon’s joggers for men : they’re unique and they look nice. The ABC Jogger Warpstreme come in a whole list of cool and versatile colors, and they have funky deep pockets on the front.

I have these and they’re very nice. The fabric and material feel high quality, which is what you can expect from lululemon.

travel jogger pants mens

In short, the crazy name “Warpstreme” refers to the company’s Warpstreme fabric, which sports a four-way stretch, shape retention, wrinkle-resistance and everyday performance. In more detail, it’s made from recycled polyester, nylon, Lycra elastane and Elastomultiester (this is a new word for me).

travel jogger pants mens

The ABC Warpstreme joggers have technical features like secure storage in those deep front pockets and a single zippered back pocket, with a drawcord that can be hidden if you prefer a flat waistband.

Like DUER products, the crotch is built with an ergonomic gusset that’ll let you sit cross-legged in your desk chair (I use this one ) during the work day. Don’t tell!

travel jogger pants mens

I have a Medium, and while this is mostly my size for joggers, the waist feels a tad small. I wouldn’t want a large, because the legs would feel too baggy. While wearing them all day, they don’t feel uncomfortable. When I tried them on originally I didn’t think they’d fit. Once they got over my hips they were actually fine.

travel jogger pants mens

If you are in between sizes, I would size up if you want a more relaxed fit.

Experience ultimate comfort with the lululemon ABC Jogger Warpstreme, designed for both active and leisurely days.

DUER No Sweat Jogger

You’ll be familiar with DUER from my review of their performance denim jeans for men and fireside denim jeans .

Get free shipping when you spend $99+; no code needed.

Now that DUER has a pair of joggers that are tapered and stylish, you won’t want to miss them. The build on these are considered ‘athletic,’ which is usually where I find a win in terms of fit and sizing.

travel jogger pants mens

As for DUER’s No Sweat Joggers, I wouldn’t consider them pants for athletics. They’re a more true casual pant, good for wearing on a day spent working from home or running (not literally) around town running errands.

With the casual athleisure build, they have a cool slim fit with a bottom cuff, two back pockets like you’d find in your favorite pair of jeans, and a zipper thigh pocket that sets these apart.

travel jogger pants mens

I’ve got to say that what I also think is great about DUER’s jogger offering is the array of colors that are both calming and classic. With the bestsellers of black and army green, you’ve also got more seasonal color picks of ink blue, slate gray, golden brown, falcon gray and a yellowish-gold called Tobacco.

travel jogger pants mens

DUER’s sizing comes in sizes by waist, so choose from 26-38 and use their size guide before checking out.

See why everyone's talking about these comfy joggers.

Mott & Bow “The Leisure Pants”

These medium-weight cotton-canvas pants from one of my favorite brands ( Mott & Bow ) are new to the brand’s lineup of comfortable menswear that packs in a “stretch factor.” If you’re curious about this company known for its denim, check out our guide about what to know about Mott & Bow before you buy.

What’s the fit all about? These jogger-style pants are reminiscent of comfy jeans, actually, but with a drawstring waist and tapered leg. They are easy to pull on and take off, and are perfect as work-from-home or weekend pants. They’re perfect for wearing with a crewneck top like my Mott & Bow French Terry sweatshirt or a Mott & Bow Heavyweight Pocket Tee . If you’re looking for spring or summer pants, check out the Khaki color , which I think looks best with the casual cuff on the bottom.

The Leisure Pants come in sizes 30-38 with a set inseam at 32. I’d keep this in mind if you require a 30, or a 34. Otherwise, the 32 length will work for most guys who are average height. Mott & Bow gives the suggestion of cuffing them when wearing, if the set length doesn’t work for you. For sizing, keep in mind that they run snug so you may want to size up.

Quince Flowknit Performance Pant

I like the affordable Quince brand (you may have seen our Quince hard shell luggage review ) and their product quality is always up to par. Quince came out with the Flowknit Performance Pant , a performance jogger with a slimming fit.

I tried them in Heather Gray in size M after reviewing the size chart. A few benefits of their “Global Recycle Standard polyester” blend is that they dry fast, have a four-way stretch and are moisture-wicking. These are all good qualities that make them contenders for having in my bag on a travel day. I like the secure back pocket, and the hidden phone pocket at the front.

Plus, a few good things about these Quince joggers is that they use eco-friendly dyes and low-water manufacturing processes. Quince also debuted the men’s Cashmere Joggers , and I have yet to try those. Quince makes a lot more than just joggers, so be sure to check out the Quince men’s loungewear collection .

Stretchy moisture-wicking poly-blend performance joggers with a phone pocket.

Brooks Spartan Pants

I have the Brooks Spartan Pants and I really enjoy them. Yes, they are marketed as running pants and I use them for that. But, they are also less traditional joggers that can be used for any active activity and beyond.

There is quite a lot of overlay between joggers and running pants. You get comfort, zipper pockets, flexibility and versatility.

travel jogger pants mens

As an example of versatility, if you’re cold, you can easily throw these on over your existing activewear shorts. Because the ankles zip, you don’t even have to take off your shoes.

Another benefit of these Spartan Pants is they are lightweight and do well in most climates.

You can pack these for travel because they don’t take up a lot of room. They compact to a small footprint which is good if you’re running low on space.

If you’re looking for other lightweight pants for men, check out this list of the best men’s travel pants .

travel jogger pants mens

Dress up for success with the Brooks Spartan Pants, offering a perfect blend of form and function for active professionals.

Tracksmith Session Pants

I like my pair of Tracksmith Session Pants . They fall in the category of “running pants that are also great as joggers”, though. If you’re a runner, you probably know about Tracksmith.

If you’re into activewear, you should also know about Tracksmith by now. They are a New England-based company that’s keeping the spirit of running alive. I like this!

travel jogger pants mens

In my opinion, Tracksmith also stands for quality and experience. When you receive your pants, you get a clean package design experience. There’s a great-looking mini-envelope with a small branded sticker, and your receipt. It’s the opposite if receiving a garment in a plastic bag with no branding. It’s the opposite of getting something from Amazon.

Sure, the packaging is nice, but how are the pants?

Verdict: They’re great. The minute you slip them on, you know they are made very well. You can feel the quality, and you can feel the effort that went into sizing them for a fit guy.

Like most running pants, I think these work as a great pair of joggers. They are an A+ in the comfort department and they allow me to move freely when I’m wearing them.

travel jogger pants mens

I typically wear a 32x30, and the Tracksmith Session Pants fit perfectly. I was actually really surprised that I had no qualms at all!

travel jogger pants mens

If anything, they are a tiny bit on the snug side. There is a lot of stretch, so they can accommodate most body types.

Experience the comfort and freedom of the Tracksmith Session Pants, designed for peak performance in all your workouts.

Tracksmith Rapid Transit Pants

I tried the Tracksmith Rapid Transit Pants , and I don’t think they are for me; however, they could be for you!

travel jogger pants mens

For what they are, they have an incredible amount of quality and strength built into the materials. This is something I could tell as soon as I took them out of the bag. It was obvious that the price tag reflects the design and craftsmanship.

They are built like dress pants, but they feel like joggers. With details like a hook-and-bar waistband and pleats, you’d be surprised that they are in fact, joggers.

I found that there was too much room in the thighs and backside for me to feel comfortable in these, in size M, even though, as written above about the Session pants, the M in that style fit great.

travel jogger pants mens

I think the Tracksmith Rapid Pants are not my style, but that doesn’t mean that this style isn’t for you.

travel jogger pants mens

Knowing that they fit more on the baggy side and are optimized for comfort, they would be a perfect match if you’re looking for something like that. I recommend looking into your exact sizing, and perhaps ordering a size up and size down so you can find your perfect match from Tracksmith.

Stay agile and comfortable with the Tracksmith Rapid Transit Pants, the perfect companion for your active lifestyle.

Nathan Men’s 365 Jogger

When I received my Nathan Men’s 365 Jogger , I immediately put them on and went for a run. It was winter, and I had already gotten a pair of running pants from Amazon, just to have a base model off of which I could compare better brands.

travel jogger pants mens

I went for a run in the NYC winter in the Nathan Men’s 365 Jogger, and then I went for a run in them again. And again. And again.

These joggers are great for (you guessed it…) jogging. And I would recommend them to any runner, especially anyone who lives in a city that sees all four seasons throughout the year.

My favorite aspects of the Nathan Men’s 365 Joggers are that they have plenty of pockets, a tapered leg fit that cuffs at the ankle and super stretchy fabric.

They feel lightweight, but not flimsy. They’re versatile. They’re great both for a workout, or working from home right in your home office . They’re the perfect work-from-home joggers that turn into your workout pants for when the day ends.

travel jogger pants mens

None of this is surprising because Nathan is a brand that makes running essentials. The intuitive designs of their products are for athletes at any level. I also feel like I could live in these joggers at home, so it’s a win-win product for me.

Enjoy the comfort and style of the Nathan Men’s 365 Jogger, perfect for casual days or rigorous workouts.

Bluffworks Airline Pants

You probably know that I like Bluffworks a lot as a casual brand built for travel. I’ve reviewed an array of Bluffworks products, from how to pack their travel suit to the Bluffworks wrinkle-free dress shirts .

Let’s talk about the Bluffworks Airline Pants , the brand’s new take on the jogger, styled with a dress pant, in fact. It’s a hybrid style, good for a travel day or a smart casual occasion.

travel jogger pants mens

The Bluffworks Airline Pants are casual, with a tailored fit and a drawstring close. They’re like smart weekend pants, cool for heading out to hang, and great for spending a few hours on a plane, when you want really comfortable pants for your flight.

My favorite pair of any Bluffworks item is my Ascender shorts .

I basically live in them in summer. The fit is perfect. With the Airline Pants , the fit was a bit more on the snug side, although they have a considerable stretch. They come sized in S-M-L-XL, rather than sized by the waist (i.e. 30, 31, etc.). Also, there are both Regular and Long lengths available as options when you’re choosing your size, which I appreciate!

travel jogger pants mens

I’d encourage you to explore your best size by using the Bluffworks Fit Guide and ordering a size up as well as the size you think you are based on what you own.

My favorite aspects of the Presidio Airline Pants are the materials, and this is because it’s a similar proprietary fabric as my favorite Bluffworks shorts . The Presidio fabric is quick-dry, machine-washable and wrinkle-resistant, so it’s your ideal trifecta for when you’re traveling, and you need a go-to pair of casual pants that’ll do the trick.

travel jogger pants mens

Bluffworks made it so that if you’d like to go up a notch and style the Airline Pants with a blazer, the Presidio Blazer comes in the same colors for matching.

Paka Apparel Men’s Everyday Joggers

I first heard of Paka Apparel as a travel-friendly company making the “coziest fiber in the world” from alpaca fibers, inspired by this material from the Andes Mountains in South America. I got my hands on the Men’s Everyday Joggers and right out of the package, they fit just right. That rarely happens.

One thing Becca noticed immediately on my joggers and hers (she got them in women’s ) was that the label in the back of the waistband is hand-signed by the person on the other end of the supply chain who helped to weave the product.

And yup: according to the Paka website, each garment has a “handwoven Inca ID” that helps bring you closer to this Quechua community. Having been to Peru multiple times, this is especially endearing for us.

As for the Everyday Joggers , I like that they’re made from Paka’s earth-friendly fabric, and it is nothing short of comfortable. I like the thick waistband, drawstring closure, crotch gusset for stretch and durability, the Quechua pattern on the back zippered (!) pocket and of course, the hand-signed tag.

They feel fresh and cozy, and have a flattering fit on me.

Paka Apparel Men's Everyday Joggers

Paka Apparel's Everyday Joggers for men are made of an earth-friendly alpaca fiber fabric and have unique elements from a Quechua community in South America.

Everything else!

I handpicked the rest of these options based on overall reviews that I found online and brands that I already know and trust. In the future, I hope to test them out and compare them to the rest of the items on this list!

Commuter Jogger by Rhone

The stretchy Commuter Jogger by Rhone is built with maximum mobility. They were dreamed up for multiple uses and have a gusset for ultimate mobility! I like that they’re designed with replacing your favorite pair of chinos in mind.

The Commuter Jogger has a cool back-of-the ankle zip and a cuff that hugs right above the ankle for a nice look. The flexible fabric is wrinkle-resistant, so when you get off the train for your morning commute, you won’t look all wrinkled up. There’s a good reason for why they’re called the Commuter Jogger.

Meant to be a day-to-night pair of pants, these joggers are semi-athletic and comfortable. One thing I’d like to note about them is that they do have a hug-the-body type of slim-fitting snug fit, so if you are looking for a looser pair of loungey joggers, I’d suggest looking at the other alternatives in this list.

Achieve a sleek, modern look with the Commuter Jogger by Rhone, designed for the active man who values style and comfort.

lululemon Surge Jogger

Slightly different from the lululemon Warpstreme Jogger is the Surge Jogger , which is kind of like the joggers of the future.

In contrast to the Warpstreme, which is designed for athleisure loungewear, the Surge leans toward actually working out. The classic tapered fit is the same, and instead of a zippered back pocket with deep front ones, there are streamlined front pockets and a single back pocket with no zipper.

An added feature is a zipper at the ankle, as well as reflective detailing for when you’re out a dab past dark, for safety.

These joggers aren’t quite “pro” athletic gear, but if you’re a fan of the brand and you’re looking for joggers that look great and perform in a workout, see how you’ll like the quick-dry sweat-wicking fabric in the Surge Jogger .

Make a statement with the lululemon Surge Jogger, designed for optimal comfort and mobility.

Bonobos Homestretch Jogger - Lightweight

These lightweight joggers from Bonobos are classically good-looking. What I like about them is that the sizing accommodates men of various heights, with options in “Short,” “Regular” and “Long.” You don’t see this every day.

Bonobos describes these joggers as refined and for all seasons, and given the lightweight material, they’re just that. Made from a rayon-nylon-polyester-polyurethane blend, they’re easily machine-washable and can be tumble dried.

As for the fit, they’re pretty simple and relaxed. There’s a tapered leg shape with an ankle cuff, and an easy drawstring waist. Bonobos has lots of information on finding your correct size so that you can hopefully get it right. Check out the Lightweight Homestretch Jogger (and see if you can snag them on sale).

Bonobos Lightweight Homestretch Jogger

Achieve a casual yet stylish look with the Bonobos Lightweight Homestretch Jogger, the perfect balance between comfort and aesthetics.

Outdoor Voices All Day Sweatpant

From Outdoor Voices, there’s the jogger-like sweatpants for men called the All Day Sweatpant .

They’re incredibly soft in terms of the material, and have a relaxed tapered fit that anyone could like.

Outdoor Voices unabashedly recommends them for cozy days spent working from home . The CloudKnit fabric is 94% polyester and 6% Spandex, giving them a dab of stretch. Two technical details are the drawstring waist and two side pockets.

As a bonus, the All Day Sweatpants come in cool colors like Heather Grey, Charcoal, Fog (very light grey) and Tea Tree (greenish).

Relax in style with the Outdoor Voices All Day Sweatpant, a wardrobe essential that never compromises on comfort.

On Running Pants

These stylish joggers from On are specifically meant for running, which is why they’re literally going to be your favorite pair of unique jogging pants.

What’s great about this specific style is that they hug the calf, so they have a much more athletic feel to them than the other joggers in this list aside from those that are from running brands as well.

The On Running Pants have a neat drawstring waist, cool side zipper pockets and a convenient ankle zipper. The design is meant to be for race-day ready guys who also want to lounge in the same pair of joggers. They’re debatably best for cold-weather running and athletics, warming up and cooling down after a workout.

On Running Pants are designed for maximum comfort and durability, helping you push your limits while keeping you comfortable.

How did I make this list?

Comfort is one of the most important decision factors when picking a pair of joggers. You’re wearing these pants and you want them to be comfortable.

If they don’t fit well, you won’t like wearing them and they’ll find their way toward the back of your dresser.

Everyone is shaped differently and certain brands may fit you better than they fit other people. For me, I have more of an athletic build and pants generally tend to fit me better than shirts.

Joggers are also quite forgiving because they aren’t designed to be as fitted as a pair of jeans or dress slacks.

You should like the way joggers look and you should especially like how they look on you. For me, I tend to be more conservative with the styles that I pick out.

For colors, I have a preference for dark and neutral colors with the occasional pop of color here and there.

I like to stand out and fly under the radar at the same time, if that makes sense. My style for joggers tends to stay within that range of motion.

The joggers that I selected for this list are stylish in today’s climate, but won’t turn you into a trendsetter by any means.

Functionality & Versatility

I enjoy being able to use a pair of pants for multiple occasions. As I’ve lived the extremes of having too many clothes at some points in life and at others, traveled full-time living out of a backpack, I value being able to have clothes that fit multiple use cases.

With joggers, you inherently get a great pair of bottoms that are great for exercise, comfort, travel and lounging.

Some joggers are better than others, or so it seems. There’s not much variability that you can fit into a pair of pants. They’re pants. Sometimes they have zipper pockets and sometimes they have different reinforcements at common points of failure.

These features are nice to have, but aren’t always practical for you if you’re looking for something simple.

For me, I’d rather have a feature that I use once or twice rather than not have it at all. One time, I was wearing a normal pair of sweatpants on a train and my wallet fell out of my pocket. I’ll never forget this.

I ran back to the train after I noticed and luckily the train hadn’t left the station. I was able to figure out where I was sitting and I found my wallet in between the seats. Now, given the chance, I always zip up my valuables even if I don’t think they’ll get pick-pocketed.

The materials are important because they determine a lot about the quality and longevity of your joggers.

100% cotton sweatpants are comfortable, but don’t offer you any benefits for sweat-proofing. They may also stretch, unreliably, over the years. There’s nothing wrong with 100% cotton, but I wouldn’t want to get them wet, even by a single drop. Especially with gray sweatpants, a drop of water looks like a stain before it dries.

I have two identical 100% cotton T-shirts that fit completely differently. Conversely, 100% cotton clothes that I have are some of my favorite items in my wardrobe.

With different materials, like polyester, nylon or elastane, you get a mix of comfort and practicality. Some brands choose to go 100% polyester, while others find a mix of materials that optimize performance. There’s no right choice, and the construction and quality of the materials will make a huge difference.

Price is important because saving money is important. A good guideline that many people forget when they see something they want is: “Don’t buy something if you can’t afford it.” You can often find deals or sales if you track the brands that you know and love.

Keep in mind that some of the items on this list were gifted to us. They don’t impact the decision of our recommendations, because all opinions here are our own. You can note that I didn’t pay for some of these products in order to own them. I want to be up-front and transparent about that!

travel jogger pants mens

Travel + Leisure / Tyler Roeland

I always find myself turning to one pair of pants when I travel, despite however many pairs that I’ve packed. Typically, the comfiest pair in my suitcase will see the most mileage, no matter the occasion. After traveling across the world this year, I discovered the power of pants that can do it all — standing up to the trials and tribulations of rugged trails and economy airplane seats without sacrificing comfort or mobility. Whether you’re an overpacker or a space-saver, combining your travel and hiking pants into one pair is a great move. Besides saving space in your suitcase, these pants blend the best of two worlds into one pair that is durable, flattering, and built to move .

As an outdoor gear outfitter, I take my travel wardrobe seriously — on any given day, I could be hopping off a train, traipsing through a city, or heading into the woods (or all of the above). I’ve made it my mission to find options that offer the perfect combination of a comfortable lounge pant and technical hiking bottoms, based on my own expertise and the pairs that my customers rave about. With picks from REI, Vuori, Lululemon, Amazon, and more, you’ll never have to make the impossible choice between comfort and performance again. Keep scrolling to explore the best expert-approved hiking pants for travel.

REI Co-op Women's Activator 3.0 Pants

If you want pants that can truly handle it all, look no further. These soft-shell pants are so breathable and stretchy that you’d almost think that they’re typical joggers, but don’t be fooled because these are seriously high-performing pants. With a durable, water-resistant coating and high-tech fabric that shields you from winds up to 35 miles per hour, these pants are suited for icy mountaintops and airport lounges, alike. I like to keep my hands free when I travel, so the three zippered front pockets and two back pockets give you tons of options for all of your essentials.

REI Co-op Women's Flash Hybrid Tights

The REI Flash Hybrid tights are some of the most versatile pants in my personal wardrobe. If you typically travel in leggings but are looking for a pair that will also stand up to wear off the beaten path, I can vouch for these tough-but-cozy tights. Stretchy legging material on the sides of the legs give these pants the fit and feel of traditional leggings, while thicker abrasion-resistant panels on the front and rear add durability and a bit of water resistance.

I wore these on a National Parks road trip, and I loved how easily I could switch between kicking back in the car and hitting the trail without needing to change pants. To sweeten the deal, the Flash Hybrid Tights are currently 30 percent off on REI.com.

Baleaf Women's Quick-Dry Hiking Joggers

With the women’s joggers, Baleaf managed to squeeze premium performance into a budget-friendly package. A wide, soft waistband and ankle cuffs helps this pair stay neatly in place for all-day wear with plenty of room to breathe. The nylon and spandex fabric blend keeps your bottom half at the perfect temperature, no matter the destination.

Besides being a flattering style choice, I typically recommend a higher waistband like the one found on this pair for outdoor wear since it helps a pack’s hip belt sit more comfortable on your body. Plus, with five zippered pockets, UPF 50+ sun protection, and impressive quick-drying capabilities, these pants have the technical specs and features to put them in the running with far pricier pairs.

Athleta Women's Brooklyn Mid Rise Ankle Pants

For a more dressed-up pair of pants that still hold their own on long travel days or when the pavement ends, Athleta’s Brooklyn ankle pants are the way to go. Thanks to their flattering, tailored fit, these pants blend in no matter the occasion. Athleta’s specialty Featherweight Stretch fabric is impressively light, yet it still has plenty of structure to stay stylish for coffee runs and sunset hikes.

The addition of a knit waistband and side panels gives them all of the movement that you might need for a day hike. I tend to travel light, so I like to have one or two pairs of pants that cover all of my bases, and these Brooklyn pants dress up as well as they dress down, making them versatile travel favorites. Depending on the color that you choose, you can get a pair on sale starting at $30 — but hurry, sizes are selling out fast.

Vuori Women's Performance Joggers

Vuori’s Performance Joggers are genuinely the softest pants that I’ve ever touched. I’m always trying to catch power naps on planes and trains, and with these pants, it’s almost too easy — there’s a reason Vuori calls their premium fabric blend “Dream Knit.”

Of course, these aren’t just the dreamiest lounge pants ever made; they're built to move, making them a standout pick for active travelers who value comfort. Four-way stretch fabric guarantees you the freedom of movement necessary for all manners of outdoor activity. The fabric is moisture-wicking, too, so you’ll stay dry and comfortable, even if you’re tackling serious mileage.

Athleta Women's Headlands Hybrid Mid-Rise Tights

Athleta’s Headlands Hybrid tights are the perfect balance of sleek athletic leggings and hiking cargo pants. A whopping six ( six! ) zippered pockets give you plenty of space to stash anything that you could possibly need while on the trail, exploring a new city, or somewhere in between.

These tights’ tough two-way stretch fabric shields you from the elements with a durable water-repellent finish and a UPF 50+ rating for excellent rain and sun protection. Don’t worry, because Athleta didn’t sacrifice comfort for performance; though the recycled nylon and spandex on these tights is thicker and more durable than most leggings, they still fit like a dream.

Lululemon Women's Wunder Train High-Rise Tight With Pockets

They may not have the trademark zippers and wide legs of your everyday pair of hiking pants, but Lululemon’s Wunder Train Tights are great picks for the outdoorsy traveler. I’ve talked to plenty of Appalachian Trail thru-hikers whose leggings of choice are from Lululemon, and it makes total sense — this pair’s high, secure waistband and four-way stretch fabric are designed for high-intensity workouts, but those features also mean that they’re well-suited for hiking.

What's more, they're also quick-drying, so rain and sweat will never stick around for long. The original Wunder Train Tights were already excellent for travel, sporting the same silky-soft feel and high-performing fabric, so it was tough to imagine much room for improvement — then, of course, the geniuses at Lululemon added two extra pockets. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Vuori Men's Ripstop Pants

I tend to wear a lot of workwear-inspired clothing in my day-to-day life, but when hiking or traveling where weight and mobility are a concern, it’s not always practical. Enter: Vuori’s Ripstop Pants. Made from organic, rip-resistant cotton with a bit of elastane, these pants retain the essence of sturdy work clothing with the added stretch and comfort of athletic pants.

They also have a gusset (aka that extra bit of fabric that gives your legs full range of motion), and trust me, it makes a difference — in my job as an outfitter, many of my most well-traveled customers refuse to buy non-gusseted pants because the feature is so helpful for all of the bending, squatting, and sitting that a long travel day might entail. No matter how rugged your itinerary is, Vuori’s durable Ripstop Pants are up to the challenge. They're also available in women's sizes .

Unionbay Men's Rainier Lightweight Chino Pants

These Unionbay Rainier Pants might be the silver bullet in your hike-ready travel wardrobe. With a casual chino-style fit that is easy to dress up, these pants are all-rounders for travelers who need options that can suit any occasion. Behind the classic slim silhouette of these pants are features that make them a solid off-road pair, too.

Though the material could easily be mistaken for the thick twill of a traditional chino, it’s actually stretchy, durable nylon with UPF protection and a water-repellent finish. Unionbay’s Rainier Chinos look great, and they wear great, too. For maximum versatility and comfort, I love the hook-and-loop waist adjuster that's sneakily hidden under a belt loop (it allows you to perfectly dial in your fit). Even better, they’re on sale for 50 percent off at Amazon right now.

Patagonia Women's Happy Hike Studio Pants

These versatile, do-everything bottoms are built to take on any kind of activity, but they excel as outdoor-friendly travel pants. The wide waistband on Patagonia’s Happy Hike Studio Pants means that they'll sit comfortably on your hips without shifting around during physical activity or while squeezed into an airplane seat.

Cleverly-designed knit ankle cuffs also stay in place while you’re moving, making them feel like a comfy cross between joggers and leggings. And as an added bonus, you can push them up to your calves when the temperatures get warmer or if your travels take you somewhere tropical. If you're by the water, these pants have a water-resistant finish, as well as five easy-access pockets for on-the-go storage.

Lululemon Men's Merino Wool Hiking Cargo Pants

If I had to change one thing about my most recent trip abroad, I think I would have brought more merino wool clothing. It’s the perfect material for hiking and travel as it insulates well on cold days and sheds heat on warm ones, dries quickly, and doesn’t hold onto odors. If I had to design my perfect train-to-trail pants, I’d take notes from these Lululemon Merino Wool Hiking Pants.

However, choice in material isn’t the only thing that makes them special. Perforations at the knees and waistband dump heat in targeted areas to keep you cool, even in crowded metro systems and on sun-scorched crags. The wool is soft and comfortable, and a hidden phone pocket keeps your valuables safe wherever you’re trekking.

Patagonia Men's Terrebonne Joggers

These are technically a men’s fit, but that didn't stop me from picking up a pair of the Patagonia’s Terrebonne Joggers last year after enviously eyeing a coworker’s pair. Now, they’re one of my favorite pants that I own. In fact, I wore mine almost daily on a trip around Europe, and they were everything that I could have asked for. The Terrebonnes’ ripstop polyester construction is super compressible, so they barely took up any space in my packing cubes on the rare occasions where I wasn’t wearing them.

They also have a PFC-free durable water-repellent finish and UPF 40+ sun protection, so they shed water and shield you from UV rays without harsh chemicals. In my recent travels, whenever I left the city to spend some time in nature, these were my pants of choice — and odds are, I was already wearing them on my way to wherever I was going.

The Tortuga Promise

At Tortuga, our mission is to make travel easier. Our advice and recommendations are based on years of travel experience. We only recommend products that we use on our own travels.

Table of Contents

When you build your travel wardrobe, start at the bottom. Start with your pants. You’ll wear them a lot, so you’ll get great value for the price. Plus, you can wear them multiple days in a row without washing or ironing. The upgrade from the cotton pants in your closet to a pair of travel pants is a bigger leap than most clothing purchases.

In this article, we’ll break down what to look for in a great pair of travel pants, what to avoid, and the tradeoffs you’ll face when choosing fabrics. Finally, we’ll share our favorite pants for travel across a range of categories.

Why You Should Trust Us

We are a team of travelers who care deeply about gear.

Jeremy Cohen and Fred Perrotta (me) co-founded the travel backpack company Tortuga in 2010 and have been making, selling, testing, and reviewing gear ever since. We make travel bags. But we also research and test all of the clothing and gear that you might pack in those bags .

Here on the Tortuga blog, we write about packing, clothes, and gear. We have to be well informed so that we can provide good advice to our customers on what to pack. And, we love gear.

In 2015, I bought my first pair of “travel pants”—more on that pair below—and have been putting new brands to the test ever since while comparing notes with other travelers and our customers.  Guys love to talk about clothes when those clothes are also gear.

Backpacks are my job. But my career and travel hobby have trained me to care about the gear that I pack and wear.

Nick Hilden and Shawn Forno also contributed to this post. Both Nick and Shawn are freelance travel writers with extensive travel experience who contribute regularly to the Tortuga blog.

What To Look For

The point of buying pants specifically designed for travel is that they should be a huge upgrade on what you already own. Otherwise, you shouldn’t be spending money on new pants.

Don’t fall into the trap of buying specialty travel clothes that you’ll never wear at home. Here’s what to look for in a pair of travel pants.

Comfortable

Your clothes should feel good and look good on you .

All the nifty features aren’t worth much if you’re uncomfortable in your clothes or self-conscious about how they fit.

Buy pants that you can also wear at home to get the most value for your money. Before you consider performance, make sure that you like how the pants look. You should wear them often at home. If they’re a specialty item, you’ll never get your money’s worth. So opt for a classic look.

Your pants should feel soft enough against your skin to be worn all day and on long flights. Choose pants that also have a bit of stretch to allow for unrestricted movement. We’ll cover stretch in more depth in the fabric section later in this article.

Fit is personal, so buy a few pairs and try them on one after the other. To check the fit before ordering, compare the measurements online against the measurements of your best-fitting pair of pants. Slim, tapered, and regular fits mean different things to different brands. Order a few pairs to compare the fit on you.

Check each company’s return policy before ordering so that you aren’t surprised by return shipping, handling, or restocking fees. And remember that you can get your pants altered if needed. Travel pants, especially from smaller brands, often only come in one length, ie. they’re sized only by the waist, not the combination of waist and length. You’ll have to get them hemmed unless your legs perfectly match that brand’s default length.

Travel pants aren’t cheap. They’re an investment. An extra $20 to get the perfect length or a slight taper is worthwhile if you’ll look better and be happier with your purchase.

Easy to Care For

Your pants must be easy to care for even when you’re traveling.

Choose durable over delicate. The best travel pants must repel dirt, liquids, and stains. They can’t rip or tear. And they need to be made well enough to never blow out a seam.

You should be able to wear your travel pants multiple times before having to wash them. If you’re exercising or sweating all day, please wash your pants. Otherwise, you should get a few days of casual, non-sweaty use before needing to wash them.

Washing and drying your pants should be easy. Hand washing is an option as is a laundromat or a wash and fold service. If you’re washing them by hand, make sure they will dry quickly. This is the downfall of cotton and especially jeans. Denim is rugged and can go multiple wears without needing to be washed. But when they do, you’ll be waiting for more than a day for them to air dry.

Lastly, your pants should be wrinkle-resistant. You want to look as good as possible with the least amount of effort. Just because your hotel room came with an iron doesn’t mean you should have to use it. Choose a fabric that’s wrinkle-resistant and doesn’t look like you picked it off the floor.

You’re looking for a good value, not something cheap. Like any piece of gear, the good stuff costs money. But the good stuff should also last longer and perform better during its lifespan.

I’ve owned my travel pants for years and wear them multiple times per week, even at home, with no problems except for a tiny snag or two that you can barely see. If you wouldn’t wear your travel pants when you aren’t traveling, don’t buy them.

You don’t need travel pants. You need a great pair of pants that travel well.

The total price matters for your budget. But to get good value , consider the cost per wear. Sure, you might be making an investment, but what’s the value of a pair of pants that you love, can travel with, and can wear 100-200 days/year for multiple years? Do the math.

In our picks, we’ll be covering the best stuff, not the cheapest stuff. But we do still care about value. We paid for our travel pants ourselves. They weren’t gifted to us. We are both gear sellers and buyers. We sit on both sides of the sale and always have to be mindful of the end price.

What to Avoid

This guide will skip over pajamas, cotton sweatpants, and flowy, hippie pants. Our picks are comfortable but also double as everyday wear. We don’t recommend in-flight-only pants that you wouldn’t wear again on your trip.

Our picks also aim for the sweet spot of features. Many pants marketed for travel have a long, unnecessary list of features to seem more novel and to telegraph that they’re travel pants. You don’t need all that. A single, zippered pocket is fine. A list of hidden, zippered pockets is overkill and makes for an ugly pair of pants.

Man wearing a travel backpack looking at an exhibit

Travel Jeans

Let’s start with the most common pant material: cotton (denim) jeans. I like both jeans and more technical travel pants. I still love breaking in raw denim and wear jeans every week. We even published a guide to the best travel jeans . A broken-in pair of jeans can be great on short trips . I have no problems wearing jeans on a short flight or packing them for a weekend trip. But I tend to leave mine at home on longer trips.

On a longer trip, you’ll have to either wear your jeans on a long flight or pack them in your bag where they’ll use up way too much space. Neither solution is great. Even if your jeans are comfortable in most situations, you’ll be rethinking your decision on the tenth hour of your international flight.

Denim jeans are made from cotton. You can wear them multiple times without needing to wash them, and they look good a little rumpled. But jeans don’t dry quickly, aren’t soft to the touch, and don’t repel water and stains.

If you love jeans, check out our five-pocket, jean-style picks to replicate that look with lightweight, more comfortable pants that travel better than denim.

Nylon vs Polyester

Travel pants are usually made of nylon or polyester, two synthetic fabrics known for high performance. Both are durable and dry relatively quickly. We wrote about the similarities and differences of nylon and polyester in an article about backpack fabrics .

Both nylon and polyester are easy to care for, wrinkle-resistant, and stain-resistant.

Nylon is softer, stretchier, and has a higher strength-to-weight ratio than polyester (though it’s not always “stronger”).

Polyester is more abrasion resistant, pills less, and holds color better than nylon.

They also differ in their level of water resistance.

Water Resistance

Nylon is hydrophilic meaning that it absorbs water and can stretch out. Polyester is the opposite: it’s hydrophobic and repels water.

Brands often add a durable, water-repellent (DWR) coating to polyester and nylon pants for increased water resistance. If you’ve ever seen a video of spilled coffee running right off a pair of pants, that’s because of a DWR coating in the finish, not the pant fabric.

DWR coatings can wear off over time, but heat (a quick spin in the dryer or ironing) can reactivate them.

The biggest concern with these coatings is perfluorochemicals (PFCs). PFCs are believed to be toxic to the environment and do not break down easily. Most of the outdoor and apparel industry has already moved away from C8 (i.e. having eight carbon chains) DWR to the shorter-chain C6 DWR which is less toxic and breaks down faster.

Industry leaders like Patagonia plan to move to C0 DWRs , which are PFC-free. Those C0 DWRs do not perform quite as well as C6 DWRs. In situations like climbing Mount Everest, performance is a matter of life and death. For your travel pants, less so.

We recommend pants with a C0 DWR because the benefits outweigh the slight tradeoffs in performance. You should choose which option you want to prioritize.

Travel pants should offer a bit of stretch to allow for a greater range of motion.

Knit fabrics can offer some mechanical stretch meaning that the stretch is knit into the design of the fabric. A fabric with mechanical stretch will be more limited in how much it stretches. But will have better “recovery” meaning that it won’t “bag out” as you may have seen with some pants, like stretchy jeans. If your pants do bag out, wash and dry them as most will bounce back to their original size and shape after drying.

Some fabrics achieve stretch by blending elastane (aka spandex or Lycra) in with a primary fabric like polyester or cotton. Elastane stretches great at first but can sag and lose its shape over time as it wears out. For this reason, we prefer fabrics with either mechanical stretch or a small amount of elastane. Avoid fabrics with higher percentages (over 5%) of elastane as they won’t hold their shape as well over time.

Check your pants’ care instructions before buying so that you know how to take care of them and if you can handle them on the road.

Best Men’s Travel Pants

Let’s get to the picks. First up are the alternatives to jeans. These are five-pocket pants that look like jeans but perform like travel pants. If you mostly wear jeans at home, start with this style of travel pants.

Outlier Slim Dungarees

High-performance pants that look like jeans but are lighter, more comfortable, and easier to care for.

Fred’s Pick: The Outlier Slim Dungarees are the ultimate travel pant. I bought my first pair in January 2015 and have been wearing my current pair since 2017. I still wear them on every trip and multiple days per week at home.

The Slim Dungarees (SDs) look a bit like jeans but are comfortable to wear, easy to pack, and out-perform any other pants you might buy. You’ll look great, even in a fashionable city, and won’t have all the extra bells and whistles of some travel pants. If you prefer to keep it simple, you’ll love Outlier’s Slim Dungarees.

Why We Like Them

  • Look like jeans: The Slim Dungarees have the same five-pocket cut as jeans and come in similar colors including black, grey, and indigo. Up close, they look more like canvas work pants because of the texture of the Workcloth fabric.
  • Packable: With a clean look and comfortable feel, the SDs are made for travel. I usually wear mine on flights. But if you’re packing them, SDs are much lighter than jeans and will take up a fraction of the space in your bag.
  • Comfortable with (some) stretch: Unlike jeans, SDs are soft right out of the box. The double weave fabric has tougher nylon on the outside and a softer nylon/polyester blend against your skin. They have a light two-way stretch plus a gusseted crotch for easier movement. The nylon fabric has an F0 DWR treatment for water and stain resistance.

What Else You Should Know

  • Slim : The Slim Dungarees are—as the name says—slim, though not skinny. Still, they may run too narrow for some travelers. I find some pants to be too tight on my thighs, but not these. So check the measurements before buying.
  • Price : At $198, SDs aren’t the cheapest pants, though they are in line with high-end denim. I’ve been wearing my current pair of SDs for five years without any issues and expect to have them for years to come. The price point isn’t cheap. But the value is tremendous, and the cost per wear is competitive with any brand.
  • Temperature : The SDs work best in mild weather. They are fine in cool weather and breathe well enough in the heat, but I wouldn’t recommend them for extreme temperatures.

Western Rise Evolution Pant

Western Rise Evolution Pant 1.0

A second high-performance denim alternative with a roomier fit, more pockets, and a lower price.

Jeremy’s Pick: I prefer the Western Rise Evolution Pant to the Slim Dungarees because the former has more room in the thighs. If your thighs are muscular or just big, the Slim Dungarees can fit like yoga pants.

The fabric also feels slightly more cotton-like than the SDs both on the outside and inside and never irritates my skin. These pants pack well, roll up small and light, don’t stink, and the dark colors never stain.

At $128, the Evolution Pant costs one-third less than the Slim Dungarees. If they fit your thighs better, you can trust they’ll perform about as well. That makes them a relative steal.

  • Look like jeans: The Evolution Pant is similar in most ways to the Slim Dungaree. The design imitates classic five-pocket jeans, but the fabric is softer and more flexible. Western Rise offers them in six basic colors so that you can wear them more like jeans or khakis. No one will know you’re wearing “performance” or “travel” pants.
  • More room in the thighs: The Evolution Pant is more forgiving and more comfortable than the SDs from the crotch to the knee. For a size 32 waist, the Evolution Pant is 1″ larger in the thigh than the Slim Dungarees. Compare both brands’ size guides before buying.
  • Durable: The Evolution Pant lasts for years. With its six-inch gusset and tough material, you don’t need to worry about crotch blowout. The stain-resistant coating does its job well, too. I wore my first pair for nearly three years before I needed a new pair.
  • A hidden, zippered pocket behind one of the normal back pockets. I’ve never found a use for it, although it doesn’t get in the way or bother me.
  • A “phone pocket” in place of a change pocket inside the right hip pocket. The phone pocket is bigger and deeper than a normal change pocket. I appreciate it for holding my AirPods Pro case but don’t keep my phone in it.
  • Version 2.0: Western Rise recently ran a Kickstarter campaign to pre-sell their new, still-unreleased Evolution Pant 2.0. The differences in the new model seem modest, except the material appears to be much stretchier. I haven’t tried them yet—and they may be superior to the original—but I still endorse the 1.0, which you can get discounted for the time being. You can see the difference between the two versions in this infographic .

Best Travel Joggers

Joggers are excellent travel pants for long flights. Like sweatpants, they’re soft, comfortable, and stretchy. The right pair of joggers will out-perform your cotton sweatpants but look fashionable enough to wear outside of the plane.

We don’t recommend bringing pants that you’ll only wear in-flight. Any pants that you wear or pack should be worn often on your trip. Choose a stylish pair of joggers so that you can wear them even on the non-travel days of your trip.

DUER No Sweat Jogger

DUER No Sweat Jogger

Upgraded sweatpants that are soft, stretchy, and can be worn (almost) anywhere.

Nick’s Pick: With their slim-fit, low-cut waist, and gusseted crotch, the DUER No Sweat Joggers look and feel great. They’re my “do everything and do it in comfort” pants.

Their all-day comfort and stylish aesthetic make them the perfect jogger to wear while exploring a new destination.

  • Versatile: The No Sweat Joggers offer a surprising level of versatility for a pair of what are essentially fancy sweatpants. I wear them to the gym, on casual nights out, and for lounging around my Airbnb. They’re great in each setting.
  • Soft and stretchy: I’m a big fan of their cotton/tech-fabric blend that is soft yet durable. Wrinkling is a non-issue. They have a pleasant stretch while retaining their lasting-power thanks to reinforced seams and general solid craftsmanship.
  • Lots of colors: Something DUER does well, in general, is color options, and the No Sweat Joggers are no exception. They’re available in an evolving series of seasonal colors, and all of them look great.
  • Hidden pocket: They also have a secure, zippered pocket which you won’t find in most joggers. I’ve found this to be useful in a variety of situations, but particularly for cycling as their low-cut waist would typically pose the threat of dropping your phone or wallet when pedaling. Not with these pants.
  • Price: At $129, these certainly aren’t cheap joggers. Their durability, however, does mean that it’s a worthwhile investment in pants that will travel with you for a long time.

Lululemon ABC Joggers

Lululemon ABC Jogger Warpstreme

The perfect pants for the plane.

Jeremy’s Pick: Lululemon’s ABC Joggers are perfect for wearing on planes, especially during overnight flights. They’re comfortable, durable, and work how you’d hope. They’re looser and more comfortable than any of the travel pants above but still fit well.

  • Comfortable: The Lululemon ABC Joggers are more comfortable than old-fashioned sweatpants and can be worn in many situations without looking too informal. Lululemon’s Warpstreme fabric has four-way stretch and most of the characteristics you’d expect from technical gear.
  • Versatile: During the pandemic, my wife got me these pants to suit our new lifestyle of endless time in front of screens and long walks. They worked perfectly, and that’s why the product took off so much as to become ubiquitous. They also work well for travel. Especially when you’re going to spend some time working from your hotel or Airbnb and lounging. These joggers won’t look out of place at the airport, in a hotel lobby, or going out for lunch. You can even wear them comfortably for moderate workouts or weightlifting.
  • Deep pockets: Their deep pockets hold a day’s worth of stuff.
  • DWR costs extra: You’ll have to pay $20 more for DWR water-resistant fabric. Hopefully, that becomes standard in the future.
  • Dressed down: Trade these in for more traditional pants before going to museums, fancy restaurants, or a night out on the town.

Best Travel Chinos

While joggers are for dressing down, chinos are for dressing up. Chinos are classics for a reason. They offer a clean, dressy look as an alternative to jeans. Our best travel chinos are for dressing up a bit, business travel , or just a different look from jeans or joggers.

Fred’s Pick: Yes, I’m making a second pick from Outlier. I’m an admitted fanboy and buy almost all of my pants from one company. With all of the travel clothes on the market, I still love Outlier because their fabrics look good and perform well with no extra pockets or unnecessary fluff. They do everything you need and nothing that you don’t.

I bought my first pair of Futureslimworks (previously known as the Futureworks) in 2016 and currently own two pairs, bought in 2017 and 2019, which show zero signs of wear.

  • High-performance: The Futureslimworks have similar properties to the Slim Dungarees but in a totally different fabric. Both have two-way stretch, a gusseted crotch, stain and water resistance, and excellent durability.
  • Wrinkle-resistance : The Futureslimworks’ F.Cloth fabric has a smoother texture that works well for chinos and performs better in hotter temperatures than the Slim Dungarees’ Workcloth. The best feature of the fabric is that even when it looks wrinkly coming out of your bag, the wrinkles fall out as soon as you put it on. I’ve never seen another fabric go from a rumpled mess to looking great instantly with no work.
  • Dressier than jeans : The Futureslimworks also work well in business settings and at dressier events since you can’t tell that they’re “technical pants” as they don’t have any unnecessary pockets or features. I’ve worn them to conferences (even as a speaker) and to a casual wedding. These chinos have a soft drape, not a sharp crease, so they’re better suited to business casual than formalwear.
  • Slim: The Futureslimworks are slim. Like the SDs, the fit is in the name. If you need more room in the thighs, the Futuredarts use the same F.Cloth fabric but have a wider top block and a more tapered lower leg.
  • Price: At $160, the Futureslimworks are not the cheapest chino on the market, but the price is a great value for pants that can be worn multiple times per week for years.

Bluffworks Ascender Chino

Bluffworks Ascender Chino

A high-performance pant that looks like a classic chino but has 10 pockets and plenty of stretch.

Shawn’s Pick: The first time I reviewed travel pants, I fell in love with the Bluffworks Tailored Chinos (sadly discontinued), but the Ascender Chinos are the improved successor to what was already my favorite travel pants.

If you want to travel in style without sacrificing comfort, the Bluffworks Ascender Chinos are fantastic. They’re comfy, durable, stylish, and wearable in all climates. I’ve worn them in Dublin and Bali with no complaints.

  • Pockets : You wouldn’t know by looking at them, but these pants have 10 pockets (including the hidden interior zipper pockets) in the front and rear.
  • Stretch : Great stretch without feeling like a pair of jeggings. I rock climb in these pants. Yes, really, I rock climb in chinos.
  • Wrinkle-Free Packing : Roll them up, stuff them in, and go (although I usually wear these on my flights and long travel days).
  • Belt needed: The waistline stretches with multiple wears. Like all elastic waistband pants, these stretch over time. You really need to wear a belt.
  • Possibly too “nice” looking for some: I like chinos but sometimes want pants that look more casual or at least don’t require a belt.

The Best Travel Pants by Category

Best Travel Pants for Long Flights

For long flights, choose pants that are comfortable against your skin and have a bit of stretch. On long flights, we recommend joggers like the DUER No Sweat Jogger and Lululemon ABC Joggers .

Stylish Travel Pants

For casual but stylish, we recommend the five-pocket style Outlier Slim Dungarees or Western Rise Evolution Pant .

If you need to be a bit more dressed up, choose a pair of travel chinos like the Outlier Futureslimworks or Bluffworks Ascender Pants .

Lightweight Travel Pants

All of our travel pant picks are lightweight, roll up easily, and pack better than your jeans.

Most Comfortable Travel Pants

To maximize comfort, you need a soft pair of pants that will stretch a bit as you move. The most comfortable travel pants are also the best for long flights: joggers like the DUER No Sweat Jogger and Lululemon ABC Joggers .

Travel Pants with Zipper Pockets

For a bit more security than “normal” pants, the Western Rise Evolution Pant and Bluffworks Ascender Chinos include zippered pockets on two different styles of pants, five-pocket jeans and chinos respectively.

Both brands feature zippered pockets on most of their pants.

Stretch Travel Pants

Travel joggers from DUER and Lululemon will offer the most stretch as they’re built more like sweatpants or gym shorts.

Travel Dress Pants

The most “formal” dress pants are made of wool with a sharp crease down the front. Most travelers won’t need a pair of pants that formal on their trips. A sharp, tailored pair of chinos like the Futureslimworks or Ascenders will look great in most situations. Just make sure they fit well and aren’t too baggy at the top or too long at the bottom.

Wrinkle-Free Travel Pants

All of the pants recommended in this guide are strongly wrinkle-resistant. You won’t have any issues with the pants above looking too creased or rumpled for a nice night out.

Nylon Travel Pants

The pants above cover a range of blended fabrics including nylon, polyester, and even cotton. The nylon travel pants are the Outlier Slim Dungarees (82% nylon), Western Rise Evolution Pant (96% nylon), and the Outlier Futureslimworks (97% nylon).

Your travel wardrobe starts with a pair of tough, yet stylish pants that you can wear day after day. The best travel pants are comfortable enough to be worn on a long flight, easy to care for, and light enough to roll up and pack in your backpack .

The real test of pants is if you can wear them constantly on the road but still reach for them when you’re back at home.

COMFY!! It is my second pair of joggers. They are comfortable and stylish. Kerry F., Western Rise customer

We need to avoid letting our belongings fall out of our pockets or getting pickpocketed in tourist destinations such as Paris, Rio de Janeiro , etc. So besides making sure we get good travel insurance that also covers our electronics when we get robbed, it is always a good idea to make sure that the men’s travel pants you purchase come with zipper or hidden pockets. All of the Western Rise male travel pants have it.

Have you noticed how men’s jogger pants have become more popular? Probably the most common are the men’s jogger fleece pants – more comfortable but not so fancy. That’s when Western Rise brings the technology to create the Spectrum Jogger , the best men’s jogger pants, combining the sweatpants comfort and the twill style for any occasion.

It’s not always pleasant to wear a seat belt, especially if you’re a traveler who is always at airports going through security. Pants with an elastic waist are more comfortable for traveling and more practical too, but they are not the prettiest, don’t you agree? To maintain style and travel in comfort, opt for the Evolution Chino travel pants with a stretch waistband and casual design.

Men’s quick-dry travel pants are a must for modern explorers, offering comfort and swift drying. These pants combine practicality with style and low-maintenance ease, making them perfect for any adventure. With durability and stain resistance, they’re an essential addition to any traveler’s wardrobe. From Western Rise, try AT Pant , Evolution Chino Pant , and the Diversion Pant .

Travel pants are versatile, comfortable, and often quick-drying clothes designed for travelers. They offer features like comfort, durability, water resistance, and wrinkle resistance, making them ideal for various activities and destinations. Travel pants cater to the needs of modern adventurers seeking both style and practicality on the go.

Fortunately, you can order your Spectrum Jogger directly on the Western Rise website . The website measurements are accurate and guarantee successful purchases despite you not physically trying on the pieces.

Popular pants for guys include jeans, chinos, and joggers. Jeans are versatile and classic, while chinos offer a more polished look. Joggers provide comfort and a sporty style. What To Wear to the Airport: 7 Travel Outfit Essentials

Styling tips.

From cozy sweats and versatile tops to iconic sneakers, your travel wardrobe is about to get an upgrade.

What To Wear to the Airport: 7 Travel Outfit Ideas

Planning your airport outfit is a crucial step in travel preparations. Travel outfits aren’t just about making a style statement — prioritizing comfort and function is key, too. Navigating the airport terminal, waiting in lines, and sitting for extended periods call for cozy clothing items.

The best travel outfit ideas revolve around ease and adaptability. Whether you’re trying to catch an early morning flight or prepare for a lengthy international journey, your travel outfit needs to be versatile enough to adapt from the chilly airplane cabin to the warmer climates of your destination.

Airport outfit ideas marry comfort with style, making athleisure outfits the ultimate go-to. For context, adaptable athleisure pieces include leggings and joggers, tops and T-shirts you can layer and sweaters that easily come on and off.

Of course, comfortable footwear you can slip in and out of is the ultimate finishing touch (hello, Nike Air Force 1s). Likewise, utilitarian bags help make packing and security checkpoints a breeze.

Whether they are for a quick business trip or a long-awaited getaway, the airport outfits ahead ensure you’re well-prepared and comfy for whatever amount of time you spend traveling — from departures to arrivals.

Your Travel Outfits Need These 7 Essential Clothing Staples

Slip into cozy sweats.

Navigating the airport can sometimes feel like a sport in itself. That’s why a pair of joggers or sweatpants are a reliable go-to. They offer maximum comfort and flexibility for long walks to your gate or unexpected dashes to make a connection. Style these with a form-fitting tank or T-shirt and layer with an oversized jacket to balance out the look. A chain-link necklace or sleek watch will elevate the coziness without feeling fussy.

Hoodies and pullovers are the best companions for chilly airplane cabins or early morning flights (not to mention they can double as a pillow if you peel off the layer after getting warm). Pair these cozy layers with joggers or leggings, and for more dimension, perhaps add a bomber jacket for a finish. After all, wearing a jacket on the plane reduces the weight in a checked bag — a pro-packing hack.

Tees, Please

Easy tees are all about comfort — key for travel — but there's no harm in prioritizing a little style, too. Think beyond your regular rotation of V-necks and crew necks and consider an oversized rugby style silhouette. Then, pair your favorite one with relaxed-fit joggers or cargo pants and a classic baseball cap or beanie.

It's in the bag.

Don't underestimate the power of a functional bag. A duffel or backpack is a sensible choice for travel, as either option is often equipped with plenty of pockets and straps for hassle-free packing and carrying. Make the most of this travel look by thinking monochromatically , adding socks and a hat of the same hue for a color-coordinating effect — and statement-making impact.

If you're heading somewhere warm (beach vacay, perhaps?) — and you want to get out of your airport outfit after landing — consider tossing an athletic dress, a color-coordinating cardigan and a pair of strappy sandals in your carry-on bag for a quick glow-up.
