3 Compelling Reasons to Return to La Tour d’Argent

Closed since spring 2022 for extensive renovations, the legendary Michelin-starred restaurant La Tour d’Argent is once again welcoming Parisian gourmets who cherish tradition. Everything has been completely revamped with exciting new features. While the panoramic view remains as stunning as ever (along with Chef Yannick Franques' signature dishes, of course), let us tell you about the budget-friendly options that have tempted us to return without breaking the bank.

A Brand-New Bar

On the ground floor, La Tour d’Argent unveils the brand-new Bar des Maillets d’Argent , which is now an essential part of the new experience. Joyfully, in this comfortably furnished setting with ochre sofas, a fireplace, and a library, you can now sit down for a very chic breakfast starting from 9 AM. The great deal? The €19 menu includes a hot beverage, freshly squeezed juice, and pastries or toast straight from the Boulanger de la Tour (right across the street and among the best in Paris).

Prefer the aperitif team? After work, settle in at the bar for a toast with a well-shaken cocktail like the Chukker (apricot, verjus, white vermouth... €28) or the Pink Mademoiselle with calvados infused with lemon verbena, in addition to classic options available upon request.

Psst: A true all-day hangout, the Bar des Maillets d’Argent also offers daily lunch specials (veal blanquette, pike quenelle... €39) and snack options with tempting pastries (whipped cream tart, fruit charlotte…).

Passion for the Rooftop

The Roof of the Tour was previously unused. Now, secured and greened, you can enjoy an extraordinary 360° view of the Seine , Notre-Dame de Paris , and the Île Saint-Louis : the ideal spot for a romantic drink for two. On the menu, you'll have a tough choice between a glass of Chablis (€30) or Menetou-Salon (€20), unless you opt for a glass of La Tour d’Argent champagne (€28), to be paired with an incredible terrine and bakery bread (€42) or a selection of cheeses (€22).

The Bar des Maillets d’Argent is open daily from 9 AM to midnight.

The Roof of the Tour is open from Monday to Friday from 6:30 PM to midnight and from noon on weekends. Reservation on tourdargent.com

La Tour d’Argent is a 400 year-old restaurant with an exceptional view overlooking the Seine and Notre Dame. It reopened in 2023 after a long renovation, and we recently returned four our fourth visit and loved the experience. We’ve included La Tour d’Argent among our 50 favorite restaurants in Paris.

Le Toit de la Tour, le nouveau rooftop en terrasse de la Tour d'Argent

Vous êtes toujours en quête de nouveautés à Paris ? Dans la famille des nouveaux rooftops de cette saison estivale à Paname, j'appelle La Tour d'Argent ! Pour la première fois cet été , le lieu historique dévoile sa terrasse qui a nécessité pas moins de 15 mois de travaux d'envergure. 

Le Toit de la Tour , voilà le doux nom de ce rooftop à ciel ouvert qui devrait vous en mettre plein la vue. Bien qu'idéalement situé pour offrir une vue imprenable sur Paris, ce toit terrasse était auparavant inaccessible, du moins en toute sécurité. C'est une réalisation audacieuse, nous dit-on, qui a été opérée pour nous offrir une belle expérience. 

Cette terrasse , nichée au centre de la capitale, offre désormais un panorama à couper le souffle, prolongeant l'expérience de la Tour d’Argent au niveau des emblématiques toits parisiens. Imaginez un jardin empli de  plantes et de fleurs , agrémentée d’un jardin aromatique et parée de zinc qui se fond harmonieusement avec les nuances anthracites du Paris haussmannien et vous y voilà.

Cette terrasse propose des champagnes d’exception de la Maison Roederer, dont la célèbre cuvée Cristal proposée au verre, des bouteilles vieillies dans les caves de la Maison sélectionnées dans la légendaire bible des vins, ainsi que des cocktails exclusifs élaborés par les mixologues de la Tour, le tout accompagné des délicieuses créations du Chef Yannick Franques .

Le menu des légumes croquants accompagnés d'une sauce Bagna Cauda, ainsi que des légumes à tartiner comme du houmous au citron vert, du tzatziki à l'ail confit et une tapenade au basilic. Vous pourrez également déguster du chèvre frais en baratte mariné à l'huile d'olive et romarin, accompagné de poivrons rouges confits. La sélection inclut aussi de la mozzarella, des tomates cerise, des olives Lucques et du basilic pourpre. Savourez notre cecina de bœuf, affiné pendant 14 mois, servi avec du fenouil à l'huile d'olive. Pour une expérience plus luxueuse, vous pouvez opter pour le caviar Osciètre de Sologne Tour d'Argent (50g) accompagné de blinis et de crème épaisse. Enfin, on peut terminer sur une note sucrée avec une salade de fraises accompagnée de chantilly de mascarpone à l'huile de menthe. 

Phare du quartier latin, Le Toit de la Tour devrait enchanter vos couchers de soleil .

Recently revamped by third-generation owner, Monsieur André Terrail, this is one of Paris’s most exclusive spots. Tethered to the River Seine, it has wrap-around windows with views of Notre-Dame Cathedral and the surrounding Haussmannian buildings. Chef Yannick Franques puts a lighter spin on traditional French classics like the signature dish of pressed duck. The wine list is also a landmark in itself and is so huge that it has to be wheeled out on a trolley, which is no surprise, considering the restaurant has one of the biggest and oldest collections of wines in its maze-like subterranean wine cellar. One of the city’s oldest restaurants, said to have opened in 1582, it has an unrivaled rollcall of A-list diners, from monarchs to politicians and Hollywood stars. Today, there’s a must-book rooftop bar and a ground-floor salon that serves lunch and drinks, and there’s even an apartment with more of those “big” Paris views that you can have all to yourself for the night.

La Tour d'Argent rouvre ses portes avec un rooftop inédit

Cette institution parisienne, logée dans le V e arrondissement, s'est offert des travaux de plus d'un an pour « l'inscrire dans le XXI e siècle en s’appuyant sur la richesse de son histoire », explique André Terrail, propriétaire de la Tour d'Argent. Le projet, mené par l'architecte AD 100 Franklin Azzi , a transformé différents espaces, du rez-de-chaussée au sixième étage.

La décoration de la salle de restaurant été repensée : si le bleu signature a été conservé, un plafond cinétique a été ajouté, ainsi qu'une moquette imaginée par l'artiste Margaux Lavevre, inspirée des mouvements de la Seine. Le célèbre « théâtre à canard », lieu où la recette emblématique de la Tour d'Argent (un canard en plusieurs façons), réalisée sous les yeux des clients, a été placé au milieu de la salle. En cuisine, le Chef Yannick Franques proposera de nouvelles recettes et réinterprétations du patrimoine culinaire de la Tour.

Au rez-de-chaussée, un bar à été aménagé : le Bar des Maillets d’Argent. Inspiré des années 1930, il accueille les clients du café matinal aux cocktails du soir. Attenant, un salon feutré, à la cheminée chaleureuse, offrira une ambiance plus intimiste.

Clou du spectacle : le tout nouveau rooftop , perché au septième étage tout en fleurs et zinc, où les clients pourront déguster un verre de champagne ou un cocktail avec une vue époustouflante sur Paris. Enfin, le cinquième étage accueillera L'Appartement d'Augusta, où il sera possible de séjourner, en compagnie d'un hôte de maison dédié, dans un cadre à la vue unique.

Since the Middle Ages, Paris has been a ‘Cockaigne’ – a land of plenty, a cornucopia, a warehouse stocked with the best produce from the French provinces and beyond. In 2024, with the Olympics on the horizon, this still holds true, and Paris is limbering up for its own gourmet games. All disciplines and categories are represented, from Japanese chefs to young, home-grown MICHELIN-Starred talent, from revered restaurants to bistros in all their contemporary incarnations. Let the games begin!

Reopening of Legendary Restaurants

New: discover paris by the michelin guide – expert insights on where to dine, stay and enjoy the city of light, paris, japanophile capital.

At Akabeko , it’s all about a subtle, French-Japanese omakase menu created by Yasuo Nanaumi. The experienced Japanese chef opened the restaurant with his son, who takes care of proceedings front of house. In this gorgeous little place, diners can shift seamlessly between the two cultures, as they tuck into dishes such as foie gras with teriyaki sauce or deep-fried sole goujonnettes with dashi. Yuichiro Akiyoshi ( Chakaiseki Akiyoshi , new star restaurant) serves up so much more than a meal. Expect a poetic interlude centred on the tea ceremony (lasting three hours) with subdued lighting and contemplative stillness; here, you forget the noise and furious pace of the city outside. Originally from Fukuoka, the chef spent 10 years in a Three Star restaurant in Kyoto, learning cha-kaiseki, the traditional Japanese culinary art based on the idea that food should complement tea. A unique restaurant in Paris. Finally, in Chef Tomoyuki Yoshinaga's Sushi Yoshinaga (new star restaurant), Paris has one of the finest restaurants dedicated to the art of sushi. The produce used smacks of exceptional quality: ikejime fish from Brittany, in particular, plus caviar, sea urchin, abalone, wild eel and matured bluefin tuna of a quality that one rarely has the opportunity to taste. The art of cutting fish, the exceptional skill of the chef, the different temperatures of the rice, the various soy sauces used to complement the fish... it has all the elements of an exceptional dining experience.

Paris's new michelin-starred talents.

Maison Dubois (new star restaurant) may be Arthur Dubois's first restaurant but the fact remains that his dishes are nothing if not impressive. Carefully selected ingredients, proven expertise, impeccable technique – the chef shows he is a dab hand at putting a new spin on classic cuisine, in which the influence of his mentor, Pierre Gagnaire, makes its presence felt. The man behind Onor (pronounced ‘honour’, with good reason) is Thierry Marx, an up-and-coming chef who seems destined to make a name for himself. In a nautical-inspired setting (incorporating a wealth of recycled materials) reminiscent of a bijou luxury brasserie, the chef dances to his own tune, supported by his right-hand man Ricardo Silva. The menu switches between nods to Asia and the chef's classics, showcasing this judo enthusiast's many talents. On the rooftop of the Hôtel Cheval-Blanc, a surprise awaited our Inspectors: the luxury brasserie Le Tout-Paris , whose all-encompassing view is enough to whet the appetite. Leading chefs Arnaud Donckele and Maxime Frédéric oversee the kitchen, where top-quality produce is prepared either simply (langoustine and pike quenelles accompanied by velvety pike heads with rosemary), or more elaborately (black pudding à la royale with gnocchi, juniper berries and savory). Géosmine (new star restaurant) is named for the smell that rises from freshly ploughed or wet soil, hinting at the ‘natural’ cuisine that Chef Maxime Bouttier's restaurant has in store for diners. Originally from the Sarthe ‘département’ in northwestern France, where he used to hurry after school to watch the cows being milked, he serves cow udders at his trendy restaurant in the 11th arrondissement. This offal is cooked in a seaweed broth before being pan-fried in butter, lightly grilled on the barbecue, placed on a tartare of seaweed, and topped with a little caviar and finished with two sauces. A creative dish, emblematic of a chef with a strong personality.

Taylor Swift says 'most wonderful' Eras Tour will end in December

Taylor Swift knows that all good things must come to an end - and that includes her Eras Tour.

In an emotional speech during the 100th show of her record-breaking tour on Thursday night, the megastar confirmed that her current musical voyage would come to an end this year.

"You know, this is actually the 100th show of the tour," she told her fans at the first of three back-to-back shows in Liverpool, England, prompting joyful screams from Swifties.

"That blows my mind. That doesn't feel like a real statistic to me because this has definitely been the most exhausting, all-encompassing, but most joyful, most rewarding, most wonderful thing that has ever happened in my life this forth. These moments with you," she said, as shown in a video circulating on social media.

Acknowledging that many in the audience might be wondering how she will mark the milestone, Swift said, "The celebration of the 100th show for me means this is the very first time I've ever acknowledged to myself and admitted that this tour is going to end in December."

"Like, that's it, and that feels like so far away from now, but then again it feels like we just played our first show on this tour because you have made this so much fun for us that we wanted to do 100 shows, 150-something shows that we have on the whole tour," she continued.

The Eras Tour, which began in Glendale, Arizona on March 18, 2023, has been extended several times since it was first announced. It has since passed through the United States, South America, Asia and Australia, and is currently on its European leg before it makes a return to North America.

It now appears there will be no additions to the current dates listed on her website, with the last one a show in Vancouver, Canada, on December 8.

"I think that this tour has really become my entire life," Swift said, adding that "it's taken over everything."

"Like, I think I once had hobbies but I don't know what they were anymore. 'Cause all I do when I'm not on stage is, like, sit at home and try to think of clever, like, acoustic song mashups and think about what you might want to hear. Just - so like, when I'm not on the stage, I'm dreaming about being back on the stage with you guys," she continued.

Swift thanked her fans for all the work they have put in to be at her show, including making plans "so far in advance," memorizing lyrics and figuring out transportation.

The Eras Tour has had a staggering impact on tourism, recently causing a spike in air travel across Europe.

United Airlines revealed in May that demand for flights to Milan and Munich, where Swift is set to perform in July, has soared, with upward of 45% more passengers compared with last year.

Her recent concerts at Edinburgh, Scotland, led to seismic activity being detected four miles from the stadium where the singer was performing, according to the British Geological Society.

The historic tour has also been accused of pushing up inflation and is predicted by British bank Barclays to boost spending by nearly $1 billion in the United Kingdom.

Anna Goldman Co-Leads Tour of New Rooftop Solar and Farm Facility

Last month, Dr. Anna Goldman , a primary care physician and health services researcher in GIM, and Dave Maffeo, BMC’s Senior Director of Support Services, led a tour of BMC’s rooftop solar and farm facility at 960 Massachusetts Ave. Dr. Goldman has recently taken on a new role as Medical Director of Climate and Sustainability for the BMC Health System.

While the tour was open to all of GIM, it was part of the Society of General Internal Medicine’s annual conference and was sponsored by the SGIM Environmental Health Interest Group.

The recently installed rooftop solar panels produce energy for BMC’s Clean Power Prescription , a pilot program that will use solar power generated at BMC to give energy bill credits to eligible, existing patients. Patients will be identified for this pilot program based on need, program availability, and eligibility. They must already be enrolled in BMC’s Complex Care Management Program and must have an Eversource account.

In addition to getting a glimpse at the solar panels, attendees received a first look at the brand new BMC rooftop farm, called Newmarket Farm . While continuing the work of the Power Plant Farm and supplying crops within the hospital, Newmarket Farm also donates produce to the community surrounding BMC twice a week.

In addition to supplying fresh produce, the farm offers several educational programs. The Rooftop Farm Summer Series has officially kicked off with a Gardening 101 workshop. Employees toured the farm, learned about soil science, and got to plant, fertilize, and take home their own tomato plants! To sign up for future Gardening 101 workshops, please click here .

The Newmarket Farm is also hosting farm-to-table experiences for children starting in July. Kids will learn, explore, and harvest on the farm at 960 Mass Ave. before heading to the kitchen (same address) to prepare a locally sourced, tasty meal.

The solar and farm facility tour drew an engaged group of attendees, including internal medicine physicians from across the US. It presented an opportunity for others to learn from the experience of Dr. Goldman and Mr. Maffeo, as they discussed what it takes to develop and implement pilot programs related to environmental health, climate, and sustainability.

Swift’s record-breaking world tour began in March 2023, in Glendale, Arizona, and has since hit multiple cities across the U.S. and around the world – becoming the first tour in history to surpass $1 billion in revenue and the highest-grossing tour of all time, according to Forbes.
