Kevin Michael McKeehan, better known by his stage name, TobyMac is a Christian hip-hop/ rock artist from Virginia in the United States.
Born on 22 October 1964 in Fairfax, Virginia, TobyMac got his music start in 1987 when he formed a duo with Michael Tait called DC Talk, and together they released “Christian Rhymes to a Rhythm” in 1988. They then recruited Kevin Max Smith and the three of them released ”DC Talk” which reached gold status, followed shortly by “Free At Last.” The tour that followed was a huge success, eventually leading to worldwide success.
TobyMac then went on to pursue a solo career in 2001 with the release of “Momentum.” The record earned five Dove Awards and a Grammy Nomination. “Welcome To The Diverse City” followed the success of his first solo album in 2004, which peaked at number 54 on the Billboard 200 and sold over 20,000 copies. In 2007 he released “Portable Sounds” and it sold over 50,000 copies, followed by his first live album released in 2008 entitled “Alive and Transported.” TobyMac’s fourth studio album, “Tonight” released in 2010 was an equally huge success; specifically it earned him “Artist Of The Year” at the Dove Awards and a nomination for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album” Grammy. His fifth studio album entitled “Eye On It” was released in August 2012 and debuted at Number 1 on the Christian album charts.
Live reviews
Everyone loves a classic feel good song, especially TobyMac, who focuses on inserting moral and spiritual messages into his music and appealing to the whole of the Christian community. Although his songs are catchy and something you expect to hear at your local party, one has to look deeper into the lyrics to fully understand this remarkable performer. TobyMac is a versatile artist who is comfortable creating a plethora of songs from different genres, from dance to pop to rap to rock, but makes sure that his discography always contains a continuous theme of how his experience as a Christian makes him a better person. One of the most notable names in Christian music, TobyMac has recorded six solo albums since 2001 with most of his success coming in recent years, winning Top Christian Artist and Album at the Billboard Music Awards in 2013, along with a Grammy for the catchy single 'Speak Life' released this year. The 49-year-old has a dedicated following and has played to packed out arenas of over 10,000 people, including the WinterJam 2013 gig in South Califournia. TobyMac isn't afraid to have a good time on stage and can spring the occasional surprise to the hysterics of the audience. During a rendition of 'No Ordinary Love' he bought out a team of marching drummers to accompany him halfway through the song and also pranced around the stage with his band following the end performance of 'Me Without You' as confetti showered down from the ceiling. A truly manic and unforgettable performance.

Toby McKeehan otherwise known as tobyMac is an innovator of sorts as he has successfully blended Christianity and hip-hop, two entities that one would not necessarily place together. Due to being one of the artists at the forefront of the combination, he naturally has amassed a large following globally which has allowed him to preach his message through his verse.
He has five albums to hand select his setlist from and of course he must include some work from the Grammy award winning album 'Eye On It'. A naturally warm performer, he interacts with his audience throughout and is genuinely pleased by the cheers for fan favourites 'Made To Love' and 'City On Our Knees'. Unusually for a hip-hop act, he performs part of the set acoustically but this is Toby's chance to allow his lyrics to shine and to be able to talk more with his audience about the influence of faith on his music. He is clearly passionate for both his religion and his music and by the finale you really feel as though Toby has given his all to the performance.
I love TobyMac's songs I listen to them every day,I recently went to a TobyMac concert hits deep tour on February 18 because it was my birthday I turned 12, so that was one of my presents and out of all my presents of all my birthdays that was the best one. I am trying to save up for front row seats and backstage tickets so he can sign something of mine. I am his biggest fan. I've been listening to his songs every since I was young, well younger than I am now. My name is Brennan by the way. I'm glad a TobyMac concert was my first concert , and it will probably be my favorite one. Especially since it was on my Birthday hopefully he is signing shirts and stuff so he can sign something of mine that has been my dream. NO I'm serious I've been dreaming about him for at least 3 days straight no joke. But that was the funniest concert I've ever been to I'm glad that was my first one.
This was my third time seeing Toby Mac live in concert, and the second time seeing him on your for his album This Is Not A Test.
He's the best. Hands-down. The Hits Deep tour was amazing with all of the bands and songwriters on he docket. But when Toby comes out and does his thing, you understand why he's the headliner, and how he just got a Grammy for best Christian album of the year. Go see him, support him, anything.
TobyMac's concert was one of the best we have ever been too. It was full of fun surprises, a lot of unexpected interaction with the audience, phenomenal guest artists, and an energy packed performance. It was definitely worth the hour drive to get there and the hour drive to get home. My husband and I agreed, we will be sure to go see TobyMac in concert every chance we get!
Great Show! Since Toby hasn't released a new album the songs were the same ones we know and love. Powerful presentation! Backup singer is the bomb! Huge voice in a tiny package.
Would have liked to have seen Ryan and Finding Favour have more time.
Still..... Well worth the drive! Can't wait till next year. Please come back again. We'll sell you out again!
We thoroughly enjoyed the concert. It was extremely well done. The lights and the sound were awesome. We enjoyed the Scripture that was shared. It was an uplifting experience. It was just the spiritual boost we needed! It was excellent all the way around. Thank you so much for coming to Tulsa! God bless you!
David and Dorothy Crockett
A great performance overall. Tobymac is one of my favourite artists and did not disappoint. The whole place was hoping to the beat! He even played a song from his new unreleased album that hasn't been heard before!
All the artists before him were amazing as well and it all worked together for an unforgettable experience!
This show is spectacular! The new songs, new peeformance, and sweet moves are very memorable. There is even a moment where there's a, Toby Greatest Hits, which is heartwarming and endearing. Toby has amazing swag. He and Diverse City keep you on your feet and enjoying every moment.
Toby is amazing! His music is so creative and well-produced. He is excellent for Jesus! Mandisa was fantastic as well. I could have listened to her much longer. I did geel he had too many musical guests. Wish he had only 2 or 3 instead of 5!

Mental Illness Drugs ‘Attack You’—John MacArthur Doubles Down on Controversial Comments
Blac chyna talks to lecrae about giving up onlyfans, her baptism, and ‘rollin’ by faith’, ‘no one could tell me that there’s not a god’—former nickelodeon star kel mitchell discusses exorcism experience with shannon sharpe, russell brand quotes timothy keller in video about first communion, a priest observed a ‘eucharistic fast’ for racial justice. now, he could be deposed., liberty university commencement ceremony features tim scott, tobymac, willie robertson, and mike pompeo.
Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, held its 2024 commencement ceremony on Friday (May 10). The ceremony featured Christian music star TobyMac, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, U.S. Senator Tim Scott, and reality television star Willie Robertson.
This was the first commencement ceremony held under the leadership of new university President Dondi E. Costin. Jonathan Falwell, who is the son of Liberty University founder Jerry Falwell Sr. and serves as the university’s chancellor, praised Costin during the ceremony, saying that Costin “had a pretty good freshman year.”
Costin assumed leadership at Liberty during a tumultuous season for the university. Jerry Falwell Jr., the university’s former president, resigned in 2020 amid questions of his fitness for leadership and scandalous reports of an affair between his wife, Becky, and then-business partner Giancarlo Granda.
Liberty University has also endured several legal battles resulting from allegations that it failed to protect students from sexual assault and mishandled sexual assault claims. Earlier this year, the school agreed to pay a historic $14 million fine to the United States Department of Education for violations of campus safety law regarding the prevention of and response to sexual abuse.
Despite these controversies, Liberty University remains one of the largest and most influential Christian universities in the nation, honoring roughly 29,000 graduates on Friday.
In a prerecorded message, TobyMac said that attending Liberty “changed the design” of his life.
“Everything I thought I was gonna do got just wiped off the map, and God redirected me, right here on this campus,” TobyMac said. He went on to recount how he met Michael Tait and Kevin Max while attending Liberty. The trio went on to form the Christian band DC Talk.
TobyMac added, “It all began here—the dream that we could do music.”
“I would say to students here, ‘Wait for God to open doors,’” he said. “Wait for God to open the doors and tell him that you’ll just step through them when he opens them—and be willing to be a servant.”
During his address, Mike Pompeo congratulated graduates and emphasized the importance of military service.
“Liberty and faith are sacred things and they are worth being defended,” Pompeo said. “And throughout now 250 years of American history, our nation has always depended on the willingness of incredible young men and women and their families to sacrifice for it, to fight for it, and even to give their lives for it.”
Pompeo went on to say that “over 40,000 Liberty students are part of our military community.” He also said that 20% of all military chaplains are graduates of Liberty and that 2,000 of the 2024 Liberty graduates are on active duty.
Pompeo said that Liberty’s strong ties to the military is “logical; it makes sense.” He added, “ This university takes pride in its support of our military heroes.”

Later in the ceremony, Liberty University awarded Senator Tim Scott with an honorary doctorate of humanities, after which Scott delivered remarks to graduates.

Just a Few of the Biggest Concert Tours of 2024, from Olivia Rodrigo to Bad Bunny
Posted: May 17, 2024 | Last updated: May 17, 2024
1) Taylor Swift
Undoubtedly one of the biggest concert tours ever, Taylor Swift's Eras Tour will continue right through 2024. The international leg of the tour kicked off in Japan, where she played four shows in Tokyo. She'll also stop in Melbourne, Singapore, Paris, Madrid, London, Milan, and more before returning to the States to play in the fall.
There's nothing like seeing T. Swift IRL, but don't fret if you're unable to nab tickets—the Eras Tour movie is now available to stream from the comfort of your home.
2) Olivia Rodrigo
This is not a drill—"Drivers License" singer Olivia Rodrigo will be hitting the road on tour starting at the end of February. The Guts World Tour runs from February through mid-August and has dates in Nashville, Toronto, Chicago, and New York City, among others. Even cooler? Rodrigo will have a stacked list of special guests—like PinkPantheress, Remi Wolf, The Breeders, and Chappell Roan—with her.
3) Red Hot Chili Peppers
Did you hear the good news? The Red Hot Chili Peppers have extended their global tour through summer 2024. The buzzy stadium tour, which kicked off in June 2022, will now run until July 2024 and bring the California-based band to places like Los Angeles, Tampa, Toronto, and Salt Lake City.
4) Bad Bunny
It's fitting that "Monaco" rapper Bad Bunny titled his tour Most Wanted —it's slated to be one of the year's hottest tours. Planned to help promote his latest studio album, Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana , Most Wanted will kick off in Salt Lake City on February 21 and run through May 26.
5) Billy Joel
If you haven't yet seen Billy Joel perform live, there's still time! The Piano Man has added more tour dates to his schedule, stopping in cities like Tampa, New York, Denver, and St. Louis this year. Even more exciting? He'll share the stage with fellow iconic performers Sting and Stevie Nicks for some of these dates.
Mitski recently announced that she's expanding her North American tour dates , and we couldn't be more excited. The months-long tour, which supports her 2023 studio album The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, has a long list of stops, including Miami Beach, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, and Paris.
There's nothing quite like a Madonna concert, that's for sure. The singer's Celebration Tour , which started last October, continues straight through the spring with dates in Seattle, San Francisco, Mexico City, and more. Besides her eye-catching sets, chart-topping songs, and impressive choreography, concertgoers also get a glimpse of the performer's fantastic costumes, which include looks from Versace and Jean Paul Gaultier.
8) Bleachers
The New Jersey-founded rock band, which is fronted by Jack Antonoff—known for producing albums for top acts like Taylor Swift, Lorde, and Lana Del Rey—not only has announced a new album but a new tour , too. The tour will start in the UK in March, ending fittingly in the band's home state of New Jersey in mid-June. Check out their newly released music video for "Tiny Moves" if you need a Bleachers fix in the meantime.
9) Nicki Minaj
Nicki fans rejoice: the rapper and singer might be coming to a city near you soon as part of her Pink Friday 2 World Tour. The massive tour will include performances in Brooklyn, Oakland, and Baltimore, with stops at Dreamville Festival and Rolling Loud California along the way.
10) Blink 182
Live out all of your nineties and early aughts pop-punk dreams with one of Blink 182's One More Time Tour dates. The tour, which supports the band's ninth studio album, One More Time..., will bring the trio to cities all over the globe, including Sydney, Santiago, Portland, and Boston. The tour's supporting act is Pierce the Veil, which is also worth checking out.
11) Stevie Nicks

The San Diego International Fringe Festival opens Thursday with 10 days of nearly 70 shows with a combined 300 performances at 11 venues.
Figuring out what to see can be daunting, so on Tuesday night festival producers offered a free preview for Fringe fans. Performers were invited to present two-minute excerpts or descriptions of their shows and 59 of the shows were represented at the event. Here are 15 picks based on the previews. Most of them are PG-13 rated, unless otherwise noted. Many shows are in Balboa Park, but others are sprinkled at various San Diego locations. For tickets, schedules, venues and more, visit sdfringe.org .
“Anatomica”: Amika Hunter’s comedy play about the human body and skeleton looked weird but strangely intriguing in a preview where they stripped down and contorted their body into the shape of a crab.
“Audition Sides”: Riot Productions’ interesting new play is about a man and woman who recently broke up, then unexpectedly end up auditioning for roles to play a romantic couple onstage.
“Best Hammer” : The comic duo of Paige Oberholtzer and Jacob Rozansky, who perform as the collective Dad Skeleton, present a series of comic sketches, including a funny one previewed Tuesday about Airbnb hosts who’ve been caught secretly filming their guests.
“The Best Man Show”: L.A. comedian Mark Vigeant, who won “Best of Fringe” honors at last year’s festival, is back with this solo comedy where he plays a beer-totin’ bro testing out his cringey jokes and ideas for his best-man speech at a wedding. He’s a naturally funny, in-the-moment performer and this show looks like a winner.
“Forest of Truth”: Japan’s wacky, high-energy and elaborately costumed Gumbo theater troupe is back with a new play about two people finding love in a forest.
“Intolerant”: Australian comedian Uma Dobia talks and sings about her food allergies, Crohn’s disease and more in this unusual theater and music show.
MeSSeS: Solo CircuS: Janoah the Jester — a juggler, unicyclist and circus historian — presents this family-friendly show where he’ll teach audience members how to juggle scarves and more.
“No Worries if Not”: Canadian comic Katie-Ellen Humphries’ solo play is inspired by her life as a “pathological people pleaser.” She’s a funny and charismatic stage performer.
“Party of Two”: Southeast San Diego native Skyler McCurine’s new comic solo show is about caring for her 94-year-old grandmother, Lola, who has Alzheimer’s. Sounds sad, but from the dirty panties-thievery bit she previewed, it looks funny and sweet.
“The Pirates of Hamlet”: Local playwright Nicolas A. Castillo riffs off a line in Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” for this new play featuring seven high-energy sword-fights, pirates and the kidnapping of the Danish prince. Looks like fun.
“Shadow Necropolis”: The Canadian-Japanese Mochisnosha & the Wishes Mystical Puppet Co. presents this all-ages story performed entirely through shadow puppetry about a girl traveling to see Oizys, the goddess of anxiety.
“The Kids Might Die (a tale told by an idiot)”: Jill Young wrote and performs as both an 8-year-old actor and a youth theater director staging Shakespeare’s “Scottish play,” just as the end of the world arrives. Looks quite amusing from the preview.
“Upline”: Megan Stern has won Fringe awards nationwide for this solo play about a mom-preneur aiming to sign up audience members in her scammy-seeming multilevel skin care products marketing business.
“We Don’t Say Kill”: Local playwright Ron Logan’s intriguing new two-character, film noir-style play is about a hit man unexpectedly finding romance.
“We Lovers”: San Diego’s Loud Fridge Theatre Group presents this one-act by talented local playwright Christian St. Croix about a group of friends sharing scary stories in the forest.

Charli XCX Speaks on Her ‘Sometimes Volatile’ Global Impact, Universal Wins Publisher of the Year and More From 2024 ASCAP Pop Awards

Charli XCX was honored with the ASCAP Global Impact award during the organization’s 2024 Pop Awards at the Houdini Estate in Los Angeles on Wednesday night.
Surrounded by the late, legendary escape artist’s lavish green gardens, Charli accepted one of the most prestigious awards of the night from veteran songwriter Paul Williams, president and chairman of the board for ASCAP.
Popular on Variety
While in Brooklyn, Charli also teased songs at a public event where she stood atop a van with multiple speakers with a sea of hundreds as her audience. “It was so fun and really rowdy,” she says. “I damaged the car and felt horrible about it. Everyone was meme-ing me, making the comparison to Michael Jackson on top of an SUV. It was definitely a surreal moment to see just how many people showed up.”
Charli also took some time to reflect on her long career, and reaping the rewards she sowed with her 2013 debut, “True Romance,” to her experimental “Pop 2,” and now “Brat.”
On stage, Charli concluded her acceptance with a toast to “all the real artists out there,” and pointed to Chappell Roan and said, “You are absolutely one of them.”
Roan was there to present Dan Nigro with the songwriter of the year award, a trophy he shares with Olivia Rodrigo. In her speech, Roan touched on Nigro’s past, joking she discovered him from his appearance in a Pizza Hut commercial, and later praising his role in Sky Ferreira’s debut album.
Nigro told Variety the pair had started working on Roan’s upcoming album in the last few days . Roan is just one of the many rising pop stars in Nigro’s repertoire of collaborators that also includes Conan Gray. “I’m just so lucky that I get to work with awesome people that make amazing music,” he said.
Meanwhile, Roan shared praise for another pop singer, Sabrina Carpenter, who is having a major moment with her single “Espresso,” the No. 4 song in United States, as of last week .
“I love ‘Espresso.’ I love it so much,” she said. “She invited me into her Coachella trailer when we were there and I got to talk to her for the first time and it was just so… I was like, ‘Oh my God, I need to be friends with more pop girls’ because I feel crazy sometimes and having someone going through it at the same time as you can be so grounding in a way. I just love to see the girls win.”
Steph Jones — who co-wrote Espresso with fellow honoree Amy Allen, and Julian Bunetta — gushed about Carpenter saying, “I met her when she was 16 or 17 so it feels so cool to see where she’s headed now. We always knew she had that ‘it factor,’ and I’ve just always been the biggest fan. I would never be able to do what she does — she’s always ten minutes early to sessions, there’s a drive and a level of perseverance and dedication to the craft that she has that is incomparable.”
Jones also said she is working on Carpenter’s upcoming, unannounced album. Leon Thomas, an honoree for SZA’s “Snooze,” also revealed he is currently producing R&B star Giveon’s next project.
The ASCAP Pop Awards also honored Rema and Selena Gomez’s “Calm Down” as the song of the year. The song topped the Billboard Pop, Adult Pop and Rhythmic Airplay charts, and hit No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Publisher of the year went to Universal Music Publishing Group for songs including “Calm Down,” “Cuff It” (Beyonce), “Dance the Night” (Dua Lipa), “Barbie World” (Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice with Aqua), “Lavender Haze” (Taylor Swift), and “Paint the Town Red” (Doja Cat),“ among others. ASCAP also praised the company for sparring with TikTok over royalty payments and AI policies .
The ASCAP Pop Music Awards chose their winners based on data offered by terrestrial and satellite radio and programmed and on-demand audio streams, all provided by Luminate Data LLC in accordance with ASCAP’s publicly available rules.
