SPARK! is a local nonprofit that inspires creativity in children 2nd grade and up! Offering a totally cool immersive setting (think Meow Wolf and Truck Yard made a jungle gym baby) paired with hands-on education, students grow their creativity while learning from professionals, creators, and artists through a variety of courses, field trips, camps, after-school programming, and weekend activities!

(And they sometimes do adult nights *keep reading for info* so we can enjoy the awesome space and be kids again too!)

PRISMATIC POP-UP

PRISMATIC is a really cool & unique pop-up art experience featuring multiple rooms built by local high school students, each one with a different color and theme ranging from slime to deep sea. And it allows you to help support SPARK’s mission to instill creativity in all kids, at the same time! We loved touring them - the giant rubber ducky room was our favorite.

Immerse yourself every Saturday from 10am-4pm, Sunday from 12pm-5pm and select holidays from 10am-4pm!

TICKETS & ADULT NIGHTS

PRISMATIC General Admission tickets begin at $20, with access to explore for an hour! There is one weekend each month set aside for adults 21+. These tickets are valid for two hours and come with two drink tickets. Check their website for dates!

Send this article to your friends, pick a date & head to the link above for tickets. Teachers also get discounted tickets with an ID!

SPARK! truly is such a hidden gem for kids and adults alike and we definitely encourage you to check it out for a fun night out with your friends or a great activity idea with the kiddos!

After you receive your confirmation email for your purchase, please email [email protected] and we will send you an invoice for your District.

What is the address of the Dallas Zoo?

The Dallas Zoo is located at 650 South R.L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, TX 75203 .

What are the Zoo’s hours of operation?

The Dallas Zoo is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during spring and summer (October-February) and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during fall and winter (March-September). The Zoo is closed on Christmas Day.

Do you offer scholarships for field trips or for Title 1 schools?

We do not have any scholarships available at this time.

Are there educational activities for students to do?

Yes. There are a variety of walk-up activities for students throughout the park. Some, including feeding opportunities and rides, require an additional fee. Others, like Keeper Chats and demonstrations, are free. There will be a schedule board when you enter the Zoo the day of your trip. We do not take reservations for any of these activities.

Wild Walks are TEKS aligned guided tours that are available for an additional fee. See more information here.

How many adults must I bring?

You must bring a minimum of one adult per ten students. We recommend additional chaperones especially for younger students. Additional chaperones will allow any field trip to move through the Zoo in smaller groups. This will enhance your experience and allow your students to view animals more easily.

Chaperones are required to stay with students at all times.

What do we need to reserve a field trip online?

In order to reserve your field trip online, you will need an account with the Dallas Zoo. You can sign up for an account during the reservation process.

You will need a credit card to reserve online. You can use any credit card to reserve your field trip. You will have the option to use an “Alternative Payment Plan” to defer your payment until after the end of the school year, but you will still need a credit card to finish your reservation. Your credit card will not be charged if you select the “Alternative Payment Plan” option.

How do I book a field trip online without paying immediately?

How do i book if i don’t have a credit card.

If you are not able/willing to use a credit card to book online, please call the Education Department at 469.554.7300 or email us at [email protected] to reserve your field trip without a credit card. Provide this information to reserve your trip without a credit card:

  • Name of School
  • Date you would like to attend
  • Grade level of students
  • Number of students
  • Number of staff/teachers (school staff MUST have a ticket)
  • Email address if you would like the invoice sent to another person

When do I need to pay? What types of payment do you accept?

Payment is due upon arrival. We do not require deposits or prepayments.

Credit cards, cash, or institutional checks (payable to “Dallas Zoo”) are accepted at the ticket booth.

You are also able to have your district mail a check or you can call the Education Department at 469.554.7300 with a credit card beforehand. We recommend that you call the day before if you are using a credit card as we can adjust your attendance numbers one final time. We do not accept Purchase Orders.

How do I know what dates are available?

Field trips are available all year except for during specific Zoo-wide events. When you book online, the website will indicate which days are sold out on the calendar page .

How do I make a change to my field trip reservation?

Contact the Education Department at [email protected] . You are able to adjust your number of guests up until your arrival, but any changes to program numbers must be made at least 1 (one) week in advance.

We strongly encourage that you wait until at least a month before your field trip to finalize your numbers. Additions and subtractions to the number of students can be made at any time.

You may change your field trip once at no charge. Additional field trip reschedule requests are subject to a $25 fee.

What is the refund policy?

Refunds will not be issued for any amount under $25, for program cancellations made within one (1) week of the scheduled date, or for no-show groups. In the event you bring a check on the day of your visit, then your check will be processed and you will be issued a refund check if the difference is over $25. This refund will be mailed to your school. The refund is processed by the Education Department. Refunds are processed quarterly and can take 4 to 6 weeks to process once the check request has been submitted.

What does the teacher need to bring on the day of the visit?

The lead teacher will need the confirmation letter provided in their email, payment (if not pre-paid), and an exact count of students, and teachers/staff. Failing to present a confirmation letter may result in a delay entering the facility.

What do I need to tell parent chaperones?

Chaperones coming in their own vehicles will park in the main parking lot and are required to pay the $12 parking fee for their vehicle. Ask them to meet you inside the Zoo in order to facilitate a quick entry into the Zoo for everyone.

We ask that all parent chaperones purchase their own tickets when they arrive. They will receive the discounted field trip price, but they must tell the ticket booth staff which school field trip they are with.

We recommend that you designate a lead chaperone that other parents and chaperones can contact to meet up with your group if they are late.

Can we bring our lunch? Where can we eat?

Yes, groups can bring their lunches to the Zoo and eat in any of our outdoor picnic areas. We do not have lunch storage on grounds. Plan to carry your lunches with you. We advise groups to hand out lunches at the bus or bring wheeled coolers/carts to transport them. If you leave the Zoo to get lunches on the bus, you will need to show your receipt/admission ticket to re-enter the Zoo.

Can we buy lunch at the Zoo?

Yes, groups visiting the Dallas Zoo can pre-purchase meals through our catering department. Please call 469.554.7477 for more information. Food and drinks can also be purchased at the Prime Meridian Café in ZooNorth or the Serengeti Grill in the Gregg Hudson Giants of the Savanna.

The Dallas Zoo reserves the right to change these policies without notice.

THE BOSTON CELTICS AND DALLAS MAVERICKS

When their alarms went off this morning, the Celtics and Mavericks had a little bit more pep in their step. That's because they both scored big wins in the NBA playoffs Wednesday night, and Boston advanced to its third straight Eastern Conference finals.

Jayson Tatum  was terrific in Celtics'  113-98 win  over the Cavaliers in Game 5, but it was the ageless veteran who really gave Boston a spark. Roughly two weeks ahead of his 38th birthday, Al Horford did a little bit of everything  in turning in a historic performance.

  • Horford is now the oldest player in NBA history to post at least 20 points, 10 rebounds, at least five 3-pointers and at least five assists in a playoff game.
  • Horford paced the Celtics from beyond the arc, knocking down six of his 13 3-point attempts.
  • On the defensive end, Horford was a big reason why Darius Garland was 4 of 17 from the field.

After punching their ticket to the conference finals, the Celtics got to kick their feet up and watch the Mavericks  go into the Thunder's gym and steal back home court with a  104-92  win in a pivotal Game 5. The Mavs now led the series 3-2 and can eliminate OKC back in Dallas in Game 6.

It should be no surprise that Luka Doncic was the driving force behind the Mavericks' success. Doncic recorded his second straight triple-double with 31 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds. He also cut his turnovers from seven in Game 4 to just three Wednesday night.

It wasn't always the prettiest game from the Mavericks, but their defense completely stifled the Thunder. Dallas put forth a suffocating effort in the win.

  • Outside of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (30 points), no other Thunder player scored more than 13 points.
  • OKC shot 25.0% from three-point range, and Chet Holmgren went just 1 of 5 from deep.
  • The Mavericks grabbed 37 defensive rebounds to the Thunder's 25.

On Saturday night, Dallas will be looking to advance to its second conference finals appearance in the last three seasons.

🏈 NFL releases its complete 2024 schedule

getty-cj-stroud-texans.jpg

The NFL knows how to dominate the sports calendar, and schedule release day is a prime example. For most other leagues, releasing the schedule for a season that is months away consists of a press release and some social media posts, but it's reached full-on holiday status in the NFL.

All 32 teams unveiled their complete 2024 schedules on Wednesday night, and you can check out every matchup here . It is always interesting to see which teams are featured in prime time more than others, and the  Texans will be prominently featured this season after getting exactly zero prime-time games last year.

The NFL's vice president of broadcast planning, Mike North, sat down with our own Jonathan Jones and said the league won't be hiding C.J. Stroud and the Texans under a bushel basket this fall.

  • North: "So six nationally televised games for a team last year, as you mentioned, was scheduled for zero ... It's a shame that that was the first time a lot of people got to see C.J. Stroud play quarterback, so hopefully we don't have that same problem this year."

Once the schedules got released, fans started running to their calendars to circle the dates of the biggest matchups, but they aren't the only ones. Some players were doing the same thing, and CBS Sports' Will Brinson has Russell Wilson's trip to Denver among his biggest revenge games .

  • Brinson: "Russ got cut by the Broncos this offseason and eventually signed with the Steelers on a dirt-cheap, one-year contract. He has all the spite in the world for being publicly embarrassed, even though the Broncos are still paying him roughly $85 million not to play for their team."

Of course, teams cannot simply release a schedule graphic and go about their day. Social media teams around the NFL work diligently to put out the most creative schedule release videos possible, and you can see all 32 of this year's videos right here .

🏈 CFB coach rankings: Riley clings to top-10 spot

USC spring game

Talkin' season has officially begun in college football, and CBS Sports has entered the chat with our annual Power Four (formerly Power Five) coach rankings . The top 25 were just released yesterday, and not everyone agreed on the final product.

There wasn't much drama at the top. Kirby Smart landed at No. 1 following the retirement of Nick Saban , and he might have wound up there even if Saban was still at Alabama . That's what two national titles and a 42-2 record in the last three seasons will do for you.

Beyond Smart, there were some tough decisions for our panel of college football experts. Perhaps no coach was tougher to place than Lincoln Riley , who has compiled a strong resume but went 8-5 with Caleb Williams at quarterback last season.

Tom Fornelli gets why Riley slid in the rankings, but there aren't many coaches with four conference titles and three College Football Playoff appearances.

  • Fornelli: "This is one of the bigger surprises for me. I understand why Riley would drop after USC went 8-5 last season and failed to build a strong enough team around Caleb Williams, but this is still the same Riley who has won four conference titles and reached the playoff four times."

Here are some of the more fascinating risers and fallers in this year's top 25:

  • Ohio State's Ryan Day lost to Michigan for a third consecutive season in 2023 and climbed six spots.
  • Steve Sarkisian soared nearly three dozen spots after taking Texas to the College Football Playoff.
  • Josh Heupel nearly slipped out of the top 25 coming off a nine-win season at Tennessee .

🏒 Cale Makar keeps Avs alive with two goals in Game 5

untitled-design-2024-05-16t010759-624.png

Down 3-1 in the series, the  Avalanche 's season was on life support going into Game 5 against the Stars , and  Cale Makar  used CPR to keep his team alive. Makar scored a pair of goals in a  5-3 road win  to move the series back to Colorado.

The most impressive part of this win for the Avs is that they had to come from behind twice in front of a hostile crowd. Just over halfway through the second period,  Miro Heiskanen  gave the Stars a 2-1 lead, but Colorado didn't blink.

Makar scored two goals in the final 23 minutes of game time, including what proved to be the game-winner just 4:28 into the third period. Through five seasons, Makar has already established himself as an elite playoff performer.

  • Makar now has 79 playoff points, which ranks 26th all-time among defensemen.
  • That puts Makar above Alex Pietrangelo , John Carlson  and Brent Burns .
  • His 21 postseason goals are tied for 21st all time among defensemen and put Makar above Hall of Famer Serge Savard .

That's not too shabby for a 25-year-old considering I was still living in my parents' attic at that age.

The Avalanche are now 6-0 all time in Game 5 after falling behind 3-1 in a series, so that's good. The bad news for Colorado is that the team has never won a series when facing that deficit.
