Radamis II 4-day Nile Cruise - Walid is the best photographer!

We took the 4-day Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor. Khaled was great in the communication beforehand and the price was very reasonable. The cruise takes you to see all the best temple sights along the way - really the best, if not only, way to see all these without the logistical nightmares of finding your way there yourself. Although we hadn't specifically booked a private guide, we had Walid (Waleed?) all to ourselves every day. He was a great and fun guy and had great stories about every attraction, and coming from Luxor, he seemed to know everyone - got the feeling he was a minor celebrity there! The best thing is - and we never thought about this until later in our trip when we were without a guide - having a private guide with you means you get the most amazing photos. Walid told us he was a great photographer, and he was right. Obviously his experience meant he knew all the best shots and how to skip the crowds to get them. Without his masterful eye, all our holiday snaps would have been boring couple selfies with an arm stretched and no background detail. He was almost fanatically proactive about taking our photos, and every 2 minutes would be "Give me your phone - I take a photo"! We are so grateful for that!!!

Dear Valuable Guest, We can't thank you enough for writing such an amazing review and for spending your valuable time describing your adventure with us. You were truly exceptional guests to our travel agency and it was truly our pleasure to customize this trip for you. The Whole team of "Nile Holiday" wish you all the best of luck and we are waiting for your upcoming trip to the land of pharaohs with some special offers for you as you are no longer normal customers of our travel agency, but, you joined the list of our best friends. Wish you all the best of luck.

My husband and I joined 10 other colleagues on a wonderful 6 day/5 night cruise down the Nile River. Our tour guide, Hany, was with us on the boat and took excellent care of us. He was a wealth of knowledge about Ancient Egypt and was great at explaining the significance of the sites we visited. We started in Luxor (Karnak Temple, the Valley of the kings, Queen Hatshepsut Temple) and then started our trip on the Nile. We were able to visit less touristy sites like El Kab, Edfu Temple (we were the only ones there for some time), Gebel el Silsila, Kom Ombo, Aswan and the fabulous Abu Simbel. It was simply the trip of a lifetime. I highly recommend this tour company and Hany our guide.

We booked our tour through Nile Holiday and spent 8 nights in Egypt. I cannot express how amazing this trip truly was! All airport transfers, car services, tours, restaurants were arranged beyond what we expected. I typically do not like tours, but after traveling with Nile Holiday, I definitely changed my mind. We were with Ahmed in Cairo. He is so wonderful and knowledgable. We felt safe at all times and really felt like we got the full Cairo experience. All of the hotels and transfers were flawless. I am so glad I chose Nile Holiday for my trip to Egypt. In Aswan, Luxor and the Nile Cruise we were with Mostafa. Another great guide. We were truly pleased with this portion of the trip! The booking process was so simple and I am so grateful to have found Khaled. I emailed him and contacted him several times a week for two months leading up to my trip. He was always patient with me, answered all my questions and responded to me very quickly. I cannot say enough about Nile Holiday! I recommend them to everyone who plans to visit Egypt. If you are weary about traveling to Egypt, don't be! I felt safer in Egypt than some places in NYC. It is an amazing place and I plan to go back and I will definitely book with Nile Holiday!!

We were on a private customized tour with Ahmed, arranged by Nile Holidays owner Khaled. After extensive mail beforehand contact to figure out the details of the tour, we were picked up at 7 am from our Cairo hotel. We went to Dahshur to see the Bent Pyramid and Red Pyramid. After that we went to Sakkara to see the step pyramid and temple area, followed Memphis, and by lunch with view of the great pyramids of giza (which were the last stop on this tour). Our guide Ahmed was very knowledgable and explained differnt things around all the sites. He also helped us take nice picures and arranged snacks and drinks. All in all, a very nice day. Can highly recommend Nile Holiday, they will customize your trip to do exactly what you wish, at fair prices too.

I have nothing but good things to say about Khaled and Nile Holiday. We arranged the Nile Holiday Nile cruise from Luxor to Aswan. We were were treated wonderfully throughout the cruise. Our guide Mohamed Saeed Gomaa exceeded our expectations. He was so knowlegeable and friendly and helped us experience the trip of our dreams. Thanks Mohamed and Khaled

My friends and I took Nile Holiday's Cairo by Night Tour. I guess I was expecting to see lit up facades in the old city. This tour was actually more an in-depth history of Islam with an emphasis on visits to mosques. Not really what I was expecting. The guide was good, but spoke very fast and very softly making him difficult to understand. Once in the hectic city he walked very fast which was also difficult. When we went to the Mokatam hills we expected a nice place to sit and view the city. What happened was we stopped at an open air "restaurant" in the dirt where you had to order drinks just to sit in plastic chairs and view the area. The other option was standing somewhere and looking through a fence. Somehow the plan for the Mokatam hills part of the tour was disorganized and really messed up. Once back in the old city the emphasis was on visiting mosques which the girls I was with weren't really interested in doing. It was fun to see the bustling city at night, but the tour had way more Islamic history than I really wanted.

Wonderful Nile River cruise on the Radamis II

We visited Egypt for the first time in February this year and travelled as part of a tour arranged by Solos Holidays of the UK. We were really a group within the group, because two friends from the UK, one of whom instigated the journey had herself been to Egypt some 20 times earlier and knew just about everything there was to know about the ancient sites etc. When we arrived in Luxor via Cairo (with Egypt Air, excellent) we were met and welcomed by the tour guide Tamer Abdeen, who would later become known to all as "Tam". When the rest of the group arrived from the UK everyone transferred by coach to our boat, the Radamis II. We had cabins on the 4th level, just below the sun deck, the cabins were large and well equipped with everything that might be needed. All meals were included in the tour, breakfast, lunch and dinner, and all were served as a buffet. The food on board was delicious with a large variety of dishes, wine and beer was readily available. Contrary to what we had heard in advance we did not get sick while on board or in Egypt as a whole, we drank only bottled water and avoided salads and food that had not been cooked. When we left Luxor and started on the journey down the Nile toward Aswan, relaxing on the sun deck was a gorgeous experience, seeing the landscape float by and in February the sun was not too hot. Nevertheless we did observe a very curious phenomenon on the sun deck; amongst our group of English ladies, a number of these had stretched out on the sun beds in bikinis. Our group were not the only ones on board however, and on this journey a number of Arab/Egyptian families were also travelling and so we were treated to the strange sight of ladies clad in bikinis while five feet away an Arab family would be sitting at a table, the wife of the family completely covered from head to foot in a black niqab with just eyes visible. The husband and kids in ordinary western clothes but the woman completely covered in black. That this was an extraordinary sight to put it mildly. Later we heard that there were so few western tourists travelling now, there were also some Italian and Spanish people on board, that also Egyptian families were travelling as this was a holiday period in Egypt. When we travelled back to Luxor on the return journey a large party from Hong Kong came on board, so the vessel was truly international! When the Radamis II arrived at Aswan everyone went on a number of excursions, the Valley of the Kings, Queen Hatshepsut’s temple, Abu Simbel, a three hour drive through the desert either way, the Isis temple at Philae, the Nubian museum, the unfinished obelisk, the little temple on Elephant Island, we had also visited Kom Ombo on the way to Aswan and then Edfu on the return to Luxor. Aswan is such a lovely place, on the one afternoon we were free my partner and I hired one of the local boats and went on a tour around the waters, the bird life was incredible, the vegetation lush, everything was so peaceful, we would love to return to Aswan one day, highly recommended for anyone interested in bird watching! Our lovely guide Tam shepherded the group safely from temple to temple, he was extremely knowledgeable with a keen sense of humour and entertained everyone with improbable stories about what the ancient Egyptians had been up to! Whenever he wanted attention he would shout out "Lovelies! Come to me!" Tam held a degree in Egyptology so he always had an answer to every question. We were probably something of a trial to him, as our own little group of four would frequently go off and do our own thing. One of our excursions was drinks and tea on the terrace of the Old Cataract Hotel at Aswan, fabulous! The view over Aswan was wonderful, the terrace plush and the drinks delicious and costing just as much as was expected in a hotel like this. Well worth it! Back on the Radamis II, our room steward on deck 4 was the excellent Mohamed, he had an amazing talent for creating strange creatures out of cloths and towels (a graduate of the Aswan Hotel School our friend said!) one afternoon we came back, heard a shout from our friend's cabin, rushed in and found that Mohamed had created a whole figure of a person sitting in a chair out of a borrowed tunic from the shop, some pillows and towels. Mohamed was a lovely, sunny person who looked after us very well! While in Luxor we visited the Karnak temple of course. A friend of mine in Oslo who is married to an Egyptian, travels frequently to Egypt, told me later that she and her husband were at the temples in 2009 and then there were so many tourists there it was almost impossible to move and very difficult to take photos. When we were there there were few tourists, we could wander around and enjoy/ marvel at what the ancient Egyptians had created, and just relax in the shade, when it all became a bit much. When back in Luxor we moved into the Sofitel Karnak Luxor hotel just outside the city, which was our base for some more excursions. We hired a car to take us to the temples at Abydos and Dendera, Hathor's temple at Dendera is perhaps our favourite temple for the whole tour, it was wonderful! What was so extraordinary was that when we arrived there at about 11 in the morning, we were the only tourists there! Four people! So we had three or four local Egyptian guides/minders all to ourselves - in addition to our friend who knew more about the site than a couple of the local Egyptian guides. The guides were very friendly and we spent a lovely hot day at both sites. At the Abydos site there was even a local policeman/soldier there, actually carrying what looked like an automatic weapon (?) who escorted us round part of the time. Happily there were was no need for his services. So far I haven't mentioned "backsheesh" - or "a little extra payment" to take pictures etc at part of a site that might be closed at the time or take photos inside a museum where pictures were not allowed to be taken etc. Everyone at the temples and sites etc. from the doorkeeper to the guides, expect a little backsheesh. This always worked out without problems and my partner, who always travels with at least two large cameras, took over 500 photos on this journey and was extremely pleased. While on the Radamis II we also had two evenings with belly dancing while the boat was at Aswan. This was fine but I really wished those in charge had brought on board local Saiidi dancers, these are men in long white robes who dance with wooden canes, the beat and the music is really great. This would have been perfect as this music and dance is indigenous to the area. All the while we went on land from the Radamis for excursions etc. there were great many street sellers who would pester everyone in the group. We learned “La shukran” no thank you, very quickly but this didn't work at all. As Tam explained, during the last few years over 80% of the tourists had disappeared from Egypt. This made life very hard for the local people who were dependent on tourists for their livelihoods. As at the temple at Dendera, we were only four people there, great for us but a disaster for the local community. It was very sad too to see as we travelled along, obvious signs of hardship and how some people lived. We loved our journey on the Radamis II and have no hesitation in recommending this boat to everyone. We had a wonderful time in Egypt and are longing to return, as soon as possible!

A “Last Minute Bargain” resulted in a great trip on the Nile… On June 28th, we celebrated our 38th Wedding Anniversary whilst enjoying a fantastic 7 nights on the MS Grand Rose. We received excellent service throughout our Nile Cruise (Red Sea Holidays)! It was a late booking and for the price we were nervous, you know what they say “if something looks too good to be true, then it probably is!” This was our first river cruise and although we have done many ocean cruises, we didn’t know what to expect. We shouldn’t have worried; it turned out to be one of our best holidays ever!!! We flew from Manchester on a Thompson flight. Entry cards were handed out and we completed them before landing at Luxor Airport. Upon arrival we went straight to the airport booths to buy our Visas, at a cost of £10 each. DO NOT buy them from the reps, they will charge far more!!! The cabins are all spacious, beautifully furnished and cleaned to a high standard. All have a safe and fridge. There are lovely picture windows; however, when moored up at Aswan or Luxor alongside other boats, the view is blocked by the other cruise boats. It didn't spoil our trip as we spent a lot of time on the sun deck and not inside the cabin! Toiletries are provided and there is a hairdryer in the bathroom, but its low wattage and very slow (I was glad that I had taken my own). The cabin boys were fantastic and arranged different towel arts every night, amazing!!! On the first night we were led to a table which was to be ours for the week. Thankfully, we enjoyed the company of our fellow travelers. The food choice was amazing, delicious, varied and plentiful. The manager and staff in the restaurant were fantastic and all went the “extra mile” to ensure that everyone was happy. They sang and served cakes to anyone celebrating a birthday/anniversary – it certainly made our anniversary extra special when we were gently persuaded to get up and join in this tradition! The MS Grand Rose is all inclusive and well worth it! Water, soft and alcoholic drinks, including cocktails were available from 9am-midnight!! Tea and coffee was available during the day on the sun deck where afternoon tea (pancakes & cakes) was also served. Bottled water was available from the bar, we used to get ours the night before a trip and put in the room fridge for the next day. Our Egyptologist/Guide for the week was Hadey; we felt so lucky to be in his group. He was very knowledgeable and able to answer any questions asked of him. He advised us on everything we needed to know and was available 24/7 – making sure we had everything we wanted. Tipping was very straight forward (unlike ocean cruising!!!) we paid £20 per person in advance for the week. This is then shared out between all the staff. It doesn't include the services of the guide - we happily tipped Hadey at the end of the week, he was so worth it!! You can of course tip at your own discretion throughout the cruise. The bar on the sun deck was a lovely place to sit and watch the world go by. Waiters would come round all day and night refilling empty glasses. Freddie was fantastic - he looks like the Freddie Mercury!!!! Sun beds were always available and pool towels were provided free of charge. The pool was small but adequate and a perfect place to cool down under the blazing sun. The entertainment which was really good fun, included a belly dancer and an Egyptian night. Your must take part in the Egyptian night it’s great fun. You can get an outfit on board, but it’s much cheaper to buy while out and about – we paid about £5 each for ours. We had 10 free excursions included in the package – they were all amazing. We also visited Abu Simbel and the Nubian visits – both highly recommended. Be aware that most are early starts, thus avoiding extreme heat. We soon settled into a routine of early starts, followed by lazy afternoons on the sun deck. Oh and the Karnak Sound and Light show is a must, but you can book it yourself and save ££’s. The boat moors right in front of the Karnak temple. The boat charges £30 for the Karnak light show which includes a horse drawn carriage around Luxor, but you can do it yourself for £10 either on Monday you arrive (English at 7pm) or the Sunday night (English at 8pm). The boat is absolutely fantastic and we met some great people and we can confidently recommend it. We returned home on July 3rd 2013 when sadly, due to the tense political situation in Egypt, a lot of people in Luxor had their holidays cut short. Thomson’s sent a gigantic plane to pick up "British" holidaymakers as well as staff. People due to go out also had their holidays cancelled. It’s tragic because Egypt is such a beautiful country as are the people we met…

We went to Egypt last December. We cruised from Luxor to Aswan and returned to Luxor on MS Farah ship. MS Farah ship was amazing, modern theme, very clean, great food and excellent service. There was not a single thing we can fault about the ship. Visited Luxor & Karnak temple, Valley of the Kings, Philae temple, Abu Simbel, Edfu temple and Kom Ombo. It was a magical experience. We could not believe how creative ancient egyptians were. Thier architecture and engineering simply unbelievable. We could have covered all the sites in one way cruising, tehrefore felt 7 days cruising was bit excessive. The bit I didn't like about egypt was tour guides and vendors. Tour guides are more interested in taking you to shops than showing the attractions. As they they get big commission from inflated prices. So be careful when tour guide says I'll take you to nice shops. They other bad experience was street vendors, they are very aggressive sellers. Also any person do any sort of things expect a tip. Even as simple as 'you can take a better picture from this angle'

Have recently returned from a fantastic holiday in Egypt from 1st to 17th July of which the first week was on a Nile cruise, and the remainder spent at Hurghada. We had planned to spend 2 nights in Cairo/ Giza but followed the tour agent's advice and gave that a miss due to the security situation there. The cruise (on the MS Esadora) was excellent in every way taking in all the sights from Luxor to Aswan and the optional trip to Abu Simbal (we flew, i think it would be a long drive at this time of year). Our guide/ Egyptologist, Elia, was excellent and so helpful in making all the necessary arrangements, giving advice and keeping us up informed of changes to plans. The standards on the ship were very high, food was great and varied, rooms were kept immaculately, service throughout was always friendly and welcoming. As others have noted, the sad part was knowing that the staff would be laid off afterwards due to lack of bookings. We saw many cruise ships laid up in ports along the way and were told there are only around 40 ships currently operating out of 400 or more due to lack of tourist numbers. On the up side, for us anyway, this meant that all the temples etc were very uncrowded - we found ourelves alone in Abu Simbal, for example, which was fantastic. We saw no hint of trouble while we were there although we were advised against the evening trip round Luxor on our last night due to a political rally. Overall, we had a great cruise and would like to thank Jane at Orbital Travel for making the arrangements together with the last minute changes - everything was well organised and ran very smoothly despite the problems outside their control.

Wondering if any has traveled recently on a Nile cruise with the travel warning and recent unrest, mainly in Cairo. The last travel warning update was July 4th. We are contemplating a Nile cruise at the end of September and would love to get feedback or opinions on travel safety on the Nile on an upscale cruise ship. We would love to take advantage of great pricing, but certainly do not want to risk our lives. Thanks for your comments and feedback!

We spent 4 nights on Domina Prestige Emilio 5* superior. I really enjoyed this cruise and would love to to a longer one next time.

RADAMIS 2 CRUISE

WOW !! Cruise from Luxor to Aswan on Ramadis 2 An older boat, but clean, functional and most importantly...Great staff Everyone on board seemed to be part of a "family" of work mates. Smiling faces, ever eager to help and a NO Tipping policy whioch really was a welcome relieft! (Give what you like at the end in an enveloppe which is then shared amongst ALL the crew, even those you never see!) Food was excellent, which in Egypt is a rare thing to say, and the wine and beer prices, acceptable. All the temple visits were well organised and the guides they employ very knowledgeable! Overal a great trip!

It is better when a hotel moves with you rather than you move your luggage. I took MS Egypt cruise and it was really nice one.

Just returned from one week Nile cruise. Thoroughly recommend. Good balance between seeing the sites and relaxing on board ship, although they get you up early to avoid the hottest part of the day. Guides were amazing, and you have the same guide all week which provides continuity. The food was good but vegetarians might struggle for variety. There is some evening entertainment but a lot of people go to bed early because of the very early starts. The tours are good and the extra tours at a charge are very reasonable. Sound and Light show at Philae temple well worth it.

We were part of a 2 day at hotel then 7 nights cruising and then 5 nights back at the hotel. We had a 5 hour coach journey from the hotel to the boat which was not a good experience on the way down, as the bus had no seat belts and a number of the seats were broken. When we arrived at the boat there was no area to drive in to so people were stood on the road side trying to identify their cases which was dangerous. Once on the boat we found the cabins a good size and well equipped with a good sized bath/shower (something which annoys my husband when they are small). The ship was in a better condition than I expected based on previous write ups. OK there were some areas on the sun deck which could have been improved such as light bulbs out and seats on chairs broken but for what we paid for the holiday it was acceptable. It would have been nice to have been given a bit of advice regarding what happens if there is a problem with the boat. The food was good and buffet style with a selection to cater for all tastes we especially liked the Egyptian theme night. The entertainment in the evening was a bit disappointing with a badly light Nubian evening with a belly dancer the only main event which was over by 10pm, The mic failed to work on the welcome day and on other occasions There was a camera man on board filming the 7 days and always trying to catch us to watch the continual filming of waving and saying cheers which was very annoying and we kept trying to avoid him. All the trips were extra and the trip to Abu Simbel was one that we did not want to miss and was a three hour bus journey away but we did think the £80 each we paid was a little bit high. We enjoyed all the trips to the various temples and valley of the kings which seemed a lot of money at the time £160 each for the package but was not to be missed. The Balloon trip at £85 each is a must with a total of 10 balloons going up and flying over some temples. Also taken is £27 each which covers tips for the whole crew but if anyone in your opinion stands out you can give extra tips. It was not unusual for other boats to be tied alongside sometimes over night and at other times just for a few hours which blocks any view from the cabin. Be under no illusions Egypt is a very cultural and interesting country which we felt sate travelling through but is a very polluted country and the Nile is no exception

Advertised as 5*, 3* at best. Cabins roomy and well equipped; public areas clean and spacious; sundeck needs overhaul (a lot of wooden walkway pieces were loose, handrails at the rear of boat were loose and very dirty from diesel fumes, life rings were broken open and generally in a poor condition). Food was, generally, very poor. Same meats/vegetables/sweets almost every day and meats were almost always presented in sauces, fine if you don't mind eating what you can't see!. All passengers paid 27GBP (or equivalent for other nationalities) for drivers/tips/baggage handling as part of the initial contract, yet when leaving boat to return to Hurghada, the staff were holding hands out for money to 'walk' the bags 10 metres to the side of the coach! Yes, I've heard it said hundreds of times that this is part of their 'makeup'. Frankly, having now been to Egypt 7 times, it really starts to grate! Trip sold as 7 night Nile cruise....2 nights in Luxor, 2 nights in Aswan.....where's the '7 night cruise'? The reps on board were arrogant, only seeming interested in selling trips which on the whole were poorly organised and very expensive (eg Abu Simbel, 3 hours each way on the coach with only 2 hours there....and all for the 'bargain' price of 80GBP per person!!!) Always wanted to do a Nile cruise, and quite disappointed now. Villages, towns, the desert areas close to roads, and the canals AND the Nile were littered with plastics and all kinds of other rubbish (it seems nobody cares about the state of the country, probably because rubbish-tipping is a way of life!) Whilst at Aswan, there were 3 'rubbish' boats moored just in front of the Emilio. We watched as the contents of one boat were tipped over the side into the main stream of the Nile....disgusting. Now I know where a large amount of plastic comes from when it ends up in the Mediterranean.

We have just done the 7 day cruise on the "Nile Ruby". The trip was fantastic. Food on the boat well presented and cooked, very creative. The staff could not have done any more , they were fantastic. Very friendly and helpful. We were told that the cabins were not very big but we found them more than adequate. My only niggle would be that it was due for a refurb, but this in no way detracted from our enjoyment of the whole experience
