Understanding Norwegian Cruise Line Gift Cards
Before we delve into where you can purchase Norwegian Cruise Line gift cards, let’s take a moment to understand what they entail. Norwegian Cruise Line gift cards are a convenient way to pay for your cruise experience or give the gift of travel to others.
These gift cards come in various denominations, allowing you to choose an amount that suits your budget or the desired gift value. Whether you’re planning a honeymoon, a family vacation, or a getaway with your friends, Norwegian Cruise Line gift cards provide a flexible and personalized option.
A Norwegian Cruise Line gift card can be used towards a wide range of expenses onboard, including accommodations, dining, bar purchases, spa services, and even shore excursions. This means that the recipient can tailor their cruise experience to their preferences and indulge in the activities and amenities that interest them the most.
Not only are Norwegian Cruise Line gift cards perfect for individual travelers, but they can also be a fantastic gift idea for special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, or graduations. Instead of a traditional present, why not give the gift of unforgettable memories and adventures at sea?
Furthermore, Norwegian Cruise Line gift cards do not expire, giving recipients the flexibility to plan their cruise vacation at their convenience. Whether they want to set sail in the near future or wait for the perfect moment, the gift card will be ready and waiting.

Now that you know where to purchase Norwegian Cruise Line gift cards online, let’s explore the options available for in-store purchases.
Where to Purchase Norwegian Cruise Line Gift Cards In-Store
If you prefer the traditional brick-and-mortar shopping experience, you can still purchase Norwegian Cruise Line gift cards at select retail locations. Here are some options for in-store purchases:
- Travel Agencies: Visit a local travel agency that specializes in cruises to inquire about Norwegian Cruise Line gift cards. These agencies often have partnerships with cruise lines and can assist you in selecting and purchasing the gift card.

When purchasing Norwegian Cruise Line gift cards in-store, it’s important to ensure that the gift card is properly activated and loaded with the desired amount. Check the terms and conditions of the gift card to understand any restrictions or limitations.

- Booking: Begin by selecting your desired cruise itinerary and travel dates. You can do this by visiting the Norwegian Cruise Line website or contacting their reservations team.
- Payment: During the booking process, you’ll reach the payment section. Look for the option to apply a gift card and enter the gift card information, including the card number and PIN, if applicable.
- Verification: After entering the gift card details, the system will verify the balance and validity of the gift card. Once verified, the value of the gift card will be applied to your booking.
- Confirmation: Once the gift card is successfully applied, you’ll receive a confirmation of the booking, including the amount deducted from the gift card balance.
It’s important to note that Norwegian Cruise Line gift cards can only be used towards the payment of your cruise fare and onboard expenses. They cannot be redeemed for cash and are not applicable to other purchases, such as travel insurance or pre-paid gratuities.
Gift cards can be used for new bookings or to pay any remaining balance on existing bookings. If the gift card balance is insufficient to cover the entire cost, you can pay the remaining balance using other accepted payment methods.
Remember, it’s always a good idea to review the terms and conditions of your gift card to understand any limitations or exclusions before redeeming it.

They do have gift cards but I don't know about the 10% off.
https://www.ncl.com/giftcard/faq
Are you talking about prepaid OBC or Gift Cards to give to somebody.
If you are giving them to somebody, I hope they are really go to travel with NCL. Somebody gave us Carnival Gift Certs a few years ago at work. Never used them and they expired. Should have sold them on ebay or something. But...
There are places where we can buy carnival and royal gift cards@ 10% off.
Example buying. $500 gift card for $400. That's how I normally pay for my cruises. I've. Never seen any for NCL, so I was curious to know if there are companies that did the same:
Ah, I think you are talking about people that resell gift cards. Very handy way to do lots of shopping.
grannys gift cards is a good one for finding cards
AAA and other big organizations sell them
It is very hard to find discounted NCL gift cards. It's not like Carnival and Disney, where if you know your way around travel hacking, you can easily save 15 to 20 percent by accumulating gift cards. NCL, like Royal Caribbean, just doesn't play that game. But both do occasionally have discounts through Amex offers.
Ohh okay. Thank you.
You can get some savings by buying NCL Future Cruise Certificates on eBay. You need to already have a Latitudes account set up so they can transfer the credit to your NCL account, and then you can still only apply 1 (maybe 2) per cruise.
BermudaBound2014
Based on my research, Carnival offers the best discount gift cards (10%) with the least restrictions. as they can be used for booking, obc, all pre-cruise purchases, they can even be used on the ship.
Royal gift cards can also be easily purchased for 10% off, BUT, Royal attaches a boat load (pun intended) of stipulations to their discount cards. If you know you are going to book, purchasing $1000 in gift cards for $900.00 starts to add up in savings. I have yet to find any discount cards for NCL :(.
Buying a $500 card for $400 is NOT 10% off.
Sorry, meant $450 for a card that's $500

Do you still have the Carnival gift card? It is illegal for gift cards to expire in CA... I'd be interested in buying.

It's not like Carnival and Disney, where if you know your way around travel hacking, you can easily save 15 to 20 percent by accumulating gift cards. NCL, like Royal Caribbean, just doesn't play that game. But both do occasionally have discounts through Amex offers.
Royal and carnival both have ten percent of cards through all state rewards and AARP rewards for good.

I've. Never seen any for NCL, so I was curious to know if there are companies that did the same: Sent from my iPhone using Forums
If you think buying a $500 item for $400 is 10% off I would hate to do your budgeting or taxes. 🤣

I personally have never seen discounted gift cards (not cruise certs, future cruise certs, etc) for NCL. AARP has discounts for Carnival and RCL.
cruisekitty22
I received a NCL gift card for my birthday. It was for $25.00 and not discounted. I already used it for our upcoming cruise in December. I gave our travel agent the number on it and she used it like "cash" subtracting that to the price of our cruise. Every bit helps!
Never seen them discounted, but I do receive them from family as gifts sometimes. They do decrease in value over time, so keep that in mind. I signed up for alerts on the Granny Giftcards site years ago and have never once received an email telling me that NCL cards are available. It's worth a try, but don't count on it 🙁

Norwegian Cruise Line credit card review: No-annual-fee card with minimal perks
Norwegian Cruise Line® World Mastercard® overview
The Norwegian Cruise Line® World Mastercard® is designed to reward frequent NCL cruisers with discounts, onboard credits and free cruises. The card is appealing for its no annual fee and no foreign transaction fees, but it lacks other compelling benefits. Card rating*: ⭐⭐½
* Card rating is based on the opinion of TPG's editors and is not influenced by the card issuer.
Issued by Bank of America , the NCL credit card has no annual fee and typically requires a good credit score of at least 670 for approval. Fans of Norwegian like the cruise line for its " freestyle cruising " aspect, especially the lack of rigid dining schedules, dress codes and formal nights.
However, if your goal is to get a free cruise by signing up for the NCL credit card, it's going to take a lot of spending to do so. This is because the bonus categories are not compelling enough to make it an everyday spending card .
Let's take an in-depth look at the Norwegian Cruise Line credit card to see if it might make sense for you.
The information for the Norwegian Cruise Line credit card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.
Norwegian Cruise Line World Mastercard welcome offer
The Norwegian Cruise Line World Mastercard is currently offering a sign-up bonus of 25,000 points after making at least $1,000 in purchases within the first 90 days of account opening. The 25,000 points are worth $250 in onboard credit.
This welcome bonus falls in line with what you can generally expect on a no-annual-fee card that requires $1,000 or less in spending. However, you can typically get a much better value from the welcome bonus on most general travel credit cards , especially if you're willing to pay an annual fee of around $100.
Related: Credit card sign-up bonuses you can earn with $1,000 or less in spending
Norwegian Cruise Line World Mastercard benefits
The NCL credit card is light on benefits. Its two big highlights are no annual fee and no foreign transaction fees. The lack of foreign transaction fees is useful for those who frequently make purchases outside the U.S., such as when traveling by Norwegian cruise ship. Many cards that offer this perk have an annual fee, so that's a point in the World Mastercard's favor.
However, the card lacks the travel and shopping protections that many other travel credit cards have; such protections include trip delay insurance , lost or delayed baggage protection , trip cancellation insurance , extended warranty or purchase protection . Those protections can come in handy when you're facing travel troubles, although you can buy stand-alone insurance policies if you don't have a credit card that provides them.
Cardholders do receive some benefits under the card's World Mastercard label. Among them are a complimentary ShopRunner membership and cellphone protection with up to $1,000 in yearly coverage (maximum two claims per year, for up to $600 per claim, $50 deductible) if your phone is damaged or stolen.

Earning points on the Norwegian Cruise Line World Mastercard
The NCL credit card earns WorldPoints, which are completely different from the Latitude Rewards points you can earn from Norwegian's loyalty program.
The earning rates on the NCL credit card are slightly better than competitor cruise cards, like the Carnival World Mastercard and the Royal Caribbean Visa Signature Credit Card. NCL cardholders earn 3 WorldPoints for every dollar spent on Norwegian purchases, 2 WorldPoints per dollar spent on eligible air and hotel purchases and 1 WorldPoint per dollar spent on all other purchases.
Plus, if you're a Bank of America Preferred Rewards member , you can earn 25% to 75% more points on every purchase, applied to the base earn of 1 point per dollar.
Both the Carnival Cruise credit card and the Royal Caribbean credit card only offer 2 points per dollar spent on their cruise lines and just 1 point per dollar spent on all other purchases, with no bonus points for air and hotel purchases like the NCL credit card. The ability to earn more as a Preferred Rewards member means you can rack up points just a little bit faster with the NCL credit card.
Still, there are many other credit cards that earn more bonus points on specific category spending , such as travel , dining , gas and groceries . This is probably not a card to use for everyday spending because it will take a long time to earn a substantial amount of points.
Norwegian Cruise Line credit card points expire five years after the month they were earned, regardless of activity.
The information for the Carnival Cruise credit card and the Royal Caribbean credit card have been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Redeeming points on the Norwegian Cruise Line World Mastercard
You can redeem your WorldPoints for onboard credit, cabin upgrades, cruise discounts, free cruises, car rentals, hotel stays, cash rewards and gift cards. Redemptions begin at 2,500 points.
Redeeming for cruise discounts and onboard credit is straightforward with the NCL credit card with rewards valued at 1 cent per point. You can redeem as few as 5,000 WorldPoints for $50 of onboard credit or 10,000 points for $100 off any cruise ($50 per person).
Free cruise redemptions are offered at a flat rate (rather than a dollars-to-points conversion). Currently, free cruise redemptions begin at 80,000 points for an inside cabin on a three- or four-night Bahamas cruise for two. The points redemption includes all applicable government taxes, port expenses and fees.
In order to redeem your points, you can sign in to your account on the Bank of America website and select the Rewards tab, or you can call Norwegian at 1-866-954-4077.
Which cards compete with the Norwegian Cruise Line World Mastercard?
Even if you are a cruise lover, you'll likely get more value from a cash-back or general travel rewards credit card like one of the following three:
- If you want to earn more points on your travel purchases: Check out the American Express® Green Card . It earns 3 Membership Rewards points per dollar on travel purchases , including cruises. This means you'll earn bonus points on the cruise booking as well as any airfare or hotel purchases you make to get to and from your cruise. The card has a $150 annual fee but also includes several travel protections* and has annual statement credits for Clear Plus and LoungeBuddy. For more information, read our full review of the Amex Green .
- If you want to earn flexible rewards: Try the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card . It charges a $95 annual fee (see rates and fees ) and has an earning rate of at least 2 miles per dollar on all purchases. The miles earned can be transferred to airlines and hotel programs, redeemed for airfare, hotels and rental cars through the Capital One travel portal , or redeemed as a statement credit for travel purchases, like cruises. It also comes with a credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck. For more information, read our full review of the Venture Rewards card .
- If you want a flat earning rate with no annual fee: The Citi Double Cash® Card (see rates and fees ) earns 1% when you buy and 1% when you pay your bill (for a total of 2% cash back on all your purchases). The card does have a 3% foreign transaction fee, so you'd want to use an alternate card for purchases outside the U.S. For more information, read our full review of the Double Cash .
For additional options, see our lists of the best cash-back and general travel rewards credit cards .

*Eligibility and benefit level varies by card. Terms, conditions and limitations apply. Visit americanexpress.com/benefitsguide for details. Policies are underwritten by New Hampshire Insurance Company, an AIG Company.

Is the Norwegian Cruise Line World Mastercard worth it?
If you only go on a Norwegian cruise once a year and charge the cost to your NCL credit card, the points would not add up quickly. For example, a $5,000 cruise would only earn 15,000 points. Big cruise spenders might find the card slightly more appealing.
Bottom line
The Norwegian Cruise Line World Mastercard can help you save money on your cruise purchases and even earn you free cruises — if you can spend enough on the card before the points expire.
However, frequent cruise travelers might do better signing up for a general travel card to earn a big welcome bonus or using a card that offers more points per dollar on everyday spending. You'll be on your way to a free cruise much faster.

Everything About Buying Discount Cruise Gift Cards via AARP (Carnival, Royal Caribbean, & More)
There’s a way that you can purchase gift cards for Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Princess, and other cruise lines… all for a sharp 10% discount off their face value. This deal means you can save potentially hundreds of dollars off your next cruise.
That may sound too good to be true, but the offer is available through AARP, the popular senior interest group. There’s no catch or hoops to jump through, apart from being a member.
Even better, before you think you have to be an older American to join up and get these savings on cruise gift cards, membership is open to anyone . That means you can save no matter your age.
Still, there are some details you should know. That’s why I signed up for the AARP program myself to see exactly how things work. Here is how to sign up, purchase cards, and take advantage of the savings…
Overview of the AARP Cruise Gift Card Program
First things first, what exactly is the deal offered by AARP?
As an interest group with tens of millions of members across the country, AARP is known for its influence. For members, it also offers a number of benefits and perks.
The group’s website includes everything from insurance plans to car buying programs to credit cards to literature about topics in aging. But the site also has what it calls “AARP Rewards.”
Here, the group offers all sorts of deals from discounted magazine subscriptions to book deals to sweepstakes entries. One of the biggest groups of deals, however, is dedicated to discounted gift cards.
You’ll find specials for gift cards entailing everything from restaurants to grocery stores. All of them offer a discount off the face value. For instance, there are $25 gift cards to clothing store H&M for $23 — about 8% off the face value. Other options include discounted cards to AirBnB, Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s and more.
Of all those discounts, it’s the cruise gift cards that seem to offer some of the best deals. Here, the cards are 8-10% off the face value . Given the cost of a cruise, that can save you potentially hundreds of dollars.
What Cruise Line Gift Cards Are Available?
At the time of this article, there are a total of five different cruise lines with gift cards available via AARP. The available lines include:
- Royal Caribbean
- Celebrity Cruises
- Holland America
Combined, these lines represent roughly 100 cruise ships offering trips just about anywhere in the world. In other words, no matter if you want to sail the Caribbean or Australia, the Mediterranean or Alaska, you can do it while saving some serious money.
What Sort of Discount is Offered?
At the time of this writing, each cruise line on the AARP list of offers had two denominations of cards offered: $100 and $500.
Each card is offered at an 8-10% discount. So in general the $100 gift cards sell for $90 via AARP and the $500 cards sell for $450 .
So if you were to purchase a cruise costing $2,500, you could buy five of these cards for $2,250, saving yourself $250 off the purchase.
Here are the current discounts by cruise line:
- Celebrity: 10% off
- Royal Caribbean: 10% off
- Princess: 8% off
- Carnival: 10% off
- Holland America: 8% off
Do I Have to Be an AARP Member to Buy?
Of the five different cruise lines that have gift cards on the AARP website, four of them — Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Holland America and Celebrity — specifically state they are for “Members Only.” Holland America doesn’t make that distinction.
For Holland America, you should be able to register for a free AARP account to purchase. However, I haven’t tried doing that. Given that most lines require a paid membership (which starts at only $12), it’s best to sign up that way.
I’m Not Over 50 Years Old. Does That Mean I Can’t Get the Discount?
No! While AARP is known for being an interest group for older Americans, anyone can join, no matter their age. We were personally able to sign up for a membership and then access all the gift cards with no issue despite being under 50 years old.
Where Do I Go to Buy the Gift Cards?
So where exactly do you go to get your card? If you don’t yet have an AARP account, first you’ll need to register. If you sign up, expect a $12 per year charge. That’s a small price to pay for the ability to save up to 10% off your cruise.
If you’re already registered with AARP, follow these steps to find the gift cards:
- Visit AARP.org
- Click “AARP Rewards” in the menu at the top
- Click “Login” at the top right of the next page and then enter your email/password
- Once signed in, look for the drop down menu on the Rewards page. Select “Redeem” and then “All Rewards”
- Scroll down until you see the heading “All Rewards”. Enter “cruise” in the search box to bring up all the discounted cruise gift cards
I’ll admit that it was a little confusing on how to find the discounted cruise gift cards at first. When creating a new account like I did, I suggest that once you register, go ahead and sign out, then close your browser. Then re-open the browser and sign back into AARP. When I signed up, it seemed to not recognize my new account at first.
Is There a Limit on How Cards Many I Can Buy?
Yes. Each gift card will come with restrictions on how many are able to be purchased at once. The “Premium” items like Carnival gift cards had a limit of 25 per month. The non-premium cards had a lower limit of just five gift cards per month.
If you are headed on an expensive cruise, it may be that you have to purchase over multiple months to get all the gift cards you need.
Are There Special Restrictions on Using the Cards?
Before you buy the cruise cards, you’ll definitely want to read through all the fine print that’s provided on the AARP website about their use. Each cruise line seems to have different rules regarding usage.
For instance, Royal Caribbean only allows you to use the card for a new reservation. And you have to book the cruise, pay a deposit, and then email in a copy of the gift certificate to apply to your remaining balance.
Lines like Princess and Carnival are more lenient on when and where you can use the card, but it’s still smart to understand the rules about the cards before buying. You can find the terms on the AARP site before purchasing.
Can I Use These Cards For Myself?
Absolutely. Like other gift cards, the cruise cards don’t have anyone’s name attached. You can use them like cash. So if you want to buy them as a gift for someone, you can do that. Or if you have a cruise coming up and want to use the discount to save money, you can do that too.
Are the Gift Cards Physical or Digital?
If you’re wanting to purchase these as a gift, then you should know that the discounted cards are actually digital. According to the fine print on AARP, each of these is “fulfilled as a digital gift code.”
You will receive the card via email. One thing to note is that it can take several minutes before the cards arrive in your inbox.
Are the AARP Discount Cruise Cards a Good Deal?
If you’re looking for a deal, it doesn’t get much better than this. With no strings attached, hoops to jump through, or other headaches, you can essentially get 10% off the cost of your cruise by buying these gift certificates and then using them to pay for the trip. So a $2,000 cruise becomes $1,800 just with buying the cards through AARP.
And since you can still shop around and buy your cruise how and when you want, you can buy the cards, and then wait for a deal that looks good to you. The only difference is instead of paying full price, you get a discount.
I’ve personally bought and used cards for a Carnival cruise. Applying the cards on the payment page was simple, and I had no issues.
If you plan to cruise one of the lines offering the cards, we see no reason not to take advantage.

how do you use the digital codes for carnival? i dont see anywhere on my cruise page to enter it
When it comes to the payment screen, there should be a spot to enter a gift card number.
I have done this for 4 Carnival cruises. It works great. I had no problem purchasing them and redeeming them when booking my cruise. I used USAA travel service to book all of my cruises and they accepted my carnival gift cards over the phone for payment. I saved 10% and it was easy.
On your payment page click on gift card, enter the card number, the pin and the amount you want applied to the card. I have done this multiple times. Good luck and happy cruising.
Unfortunately, the discount for the Princess Cruises gift card has gone from 10% to 8%. I asked AARP about this, and they said that the discount amount is up to Princess, not AARP.
Travel insurance will not reimburse payment towards a cryise paid with a gift card should you need to cancel for any reason.
No place to add gift card online for payment. Called gift card #, they can’t add it no place on cruise personalizer. So exactly hiw are yiu redeeming Princess gift for cruise payment.
AARP Rewards (and thus access to gift cards) is only available to US residents. Wish I’d known this before joining AARP (which you can do as a Canadian).
Go online and chat. I just did it and cancelled my membership and got reimbursed. Same problem you had.
Warning: The AARP site does not support Safari, only Chrome. Mac users, I just saved you half an hour, you’re welcome. I left them lots of feedback.

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) is one of the top players in large-ship cruising, and its fleet is seeing one of its biggest refits in decades with its new Prima fleet of ships. Norwegian Cruise Line ships are also known for their colorful hull art that makes them stand out in ports around the world.
The company dates back to 1966 when it got its start as a Norwegian shipping company. Today, it has become one of the more popular mainstream cruise brands and is part of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, which also includes the Regent Seven Seas and Oceania brands.

NCL sails around the world with numerous routes from the U.S. to Caribbean destinations as well as around the Mediterranean and Baltic Seas.
Its loyalty program, onboard amenities and variety of cabin types offer something for every type of traveler.
Cabin types: You can expect a range of different cabin sizes and layouts ranging from solo-traveler interior studios and inside cabins for as many as four people to ocean view and balcony cabins. A wide range of suites are also available. The Prima class of ships feature the largest suites, some of which have private whirlpools on the balcony and as many as three bedrooms.
Main U.S. routes: NCL has plenty of North America sailings from U.S. ports to Alaska, Bermuda, Canada and New England. There are also sailings to the Caribbean, Hawaii, Mexico and the Panama Canal, among others.
Loyalty program: NCL's Latitudes Rewards loyalty program, which issues one point for every night sailed as well as bonus points for booking suites or participating in certain promotions. At each elite tier, members earn onboard benefits like discounts, laundry service and special event access. The more you travel with NCL, the more benefits you can earn.
NCL spans the globe with sailings to every continent (even Antarctica) on a wide range of ships. They leave from both U.S. coasts as well as from Hawaii — where NCL has operated inter-island Hawaiian sailing for almost two decades.

You'll find lots of good deals on Norwegian, but cruise fares will fluctuate based on the destination, time of year and other variables. You’ll want to keep these factors in mind when booking a cruise, as they'll affect the price of the trip:
Time of year.
Trip duration.
Destination.
Ship class.
Cabin type.
You can find cruise bargains for as low as $350 on four-night cruises, but if you want to splurge and do a longer cruise, expect to pay as much as $4,600 or more (especially if you book a suite or a Haven category room).
Of course, the fare will always vary depending on which cabin type you book.

When it comes to which NCL ship is best, that depends on what you're looking for in a cruise. If you're traveling with a family, for example, water slides, amusement park-style games and multi-bedroom suites may be important. This means you may prefer one of the line’s newest Prima Class ships: Norwegian Prima or Norwegian Viva.
If you're looking for a romantic vacation, perhaps you'll want a smaller ship or a cabin in The Haven, which is a hotel-within-a-hotel concept with more personalized service. The Haven is only available on select Norwegian ships, including Encore, Viva and Prima.
What is the newest NCL ship?
Norwegian Viva launched in the summer of 2023, making it the newest ship for NCL. It has special features like a three-tier race track, the fastest slides at sea, a food hall with 11 complimentary eateries and a sustainable cocktail bar.

Norwegian Cruise Line pioneered many features aboard its ships, some of which other cruise lines have imitated. These are some of the special features you'll find aboard some or all of the ships in NCL’s fleet.
Freestyle dining: open-seating in restaurants with extended hours and no reservations.
Private island: Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas is a private island for cruise passengers. NCL was the first cruise company to offer access to a private island, and it spurred a growing trend in the industry.

Latitude Rewards awards members with points based on each night they sail, and they can earn bonus nights when booking certain categories of suites.
Occasional promotions also offer double-night credit. You will only earn cruise points on eligible sailings where you are paying a traditional fare; promotional sailings with a heavy discount might not be eligible, although you would still receive the benefits at your tier. Also, sailings on sister lines do not qualify for Latitude Rewards cruise points.
As you accrue nights, you earn elite status that delivers onboard benefits that grow with each status tier.
Latitude Rewards levels
The loyalty program has seven levels, from Bronze to Ambassador. The full roster of onboard amenities can be found on the Norwegian Cruise Line website . There are some extra perks that come with certain tiers.
How to earn Latitudes Rewards points
Earn one point for every night you spend on a sailing and double points in suites or The Haven category accommodations.
How to redeem points
This program does not offer any points to redeem. Instead, you would earn benefits on future cruises related to your particular elite tier. Ambassador members (700+ points) earn a free 7-night cruise.
Spending on the Norwegian Cruise Line® World Mastercard® won’t earn you Latitude Rewards points (the only way to do that is by sailing with NCL), but it will earn you WorldPoints. This currency can be redeemed for onboard credits on future sailings, Norwegian Cruise Line shore excursions and other travel experiences. The card has no annual fee and no foreign transaction fees, making it ideal for world travelers.
With the Norwegian Cruise Line® World Mastercard, you earn WorldPoints as follows:
3x points on NCL sailings.
2x points on eligible airfare and hotel purchases.
1x point on everything else.
Earn 20,000 WorldPoints, which is good for a $200 onboard credit or discount toward a future cruise, if you spend $1,000 or more in the first 90 days the account is open.
How to redeem WorldPoints
Each WorldPoints point is equivalent to one cent, which you can then redeem for things such as:
Stateroom upgrades.
Travel discounts.
Last-minute cruises.
Onboard credits.
Car rentals.
Hotel stays.
Gift cards.

No, but you can pay for a Wi-Fi package, which starts at $29.99 per day per device.
No, but all sailings do include accommodations, activities, food and beverages, and entertainment. There is the ability to purchase extra benefits on each ship.
There are several drink package options on NCL sailings:
Non-alcoholic
The Unlimited Soda package includes all fountain soda drinks for $9.95 per person per day.
The Unlimited Starbucks package includes all Starbucks drinks for $12.95 per person per day.
An adult over the age of 21 could opt for a non-alcoholic drink package, but that means everyone else on their reservation must also get non-alcoholic drink packages.
Premium offers most drinks that cost $15 and under. You can pay the difference if you choose a more expensive drink. This unlimited package costs $109 per person per day.
Premium Plus offers even more drink options, mostly premium and top-shelf category labels, bottled water, Starbucks drinks and energy drinks for a flat price of $138 per person per day.
Keep in mind that alcoholic drink packages must be purchased for all people above the age of 21 in the same reservation, and those under 21 must pay for the soda package. The policy is intended to prevent people over the age of 21 from getting alcoholic drinks for other members of their party that did not pay for the alcoholic drink package.
Norwegian Cruise Line offers sailings at different price points to a global range of destinations. It is also known for its beautiful hull art, pioneering Freestyle Dining and adding buzzworthy amenities like ice bars and race tracks to its ships. NCL cruises are fun for all types of travelers, and its loyalty program can provide added perks along the way.

Norwegian Cruise Line World Mastercard: Heavy on the cruise perks but limited everyday rewards
Whether you plan on sailing to the Bahamas on the Norwegian Breakaway or cruising to the Mediterranean on the Norwegian Dawn, using the Norwegian Cruise Line® World Mastercard® could be a good way to earn extra rewards. You'll earn up to three points per $1 spent on Norwegian cruise bookings, and the card has no annual fee.
However, the card's rewards program offers limited rewards on other purchases. Unless you're a Norwegian Cruise Line devotee, another credit card may be a better choice.
Norwegian Cruise Line World Mastercard at a glance
Annual fee : $0
Welcome offer : 20,000 points after spending $1,000 on purchases within 90 days of account opening
3x points per $1 spent on Norwegian purchases
2x points per $1 spent on eligible airfare and hotel accommodations
One point per $1 spent on all other purchases
The Norwegian Cruise Line World Mastercard doesn't have an annual fee. Assuming you pay off your statement balance in full each month, you can use the card and earn valuable rewards at no added cost.
Welcome offer
You can earn 20,000 points if you spend at least $1,000 on purchases within 90 days of account opening. Although the value of those points varies based on your redemption method, the bonus could be worth as much as $200.
With some credit cards, the new cardmember welcome offer requires you to spend thousands in a short time, so the $1,000 spending requirement and 90-day timeline is more accessible than most. You can qualify for the bonus by spending a modest amount, or by using the card for routine purchases like gas and groceries.
Intro offer
There is no introductory APR offer for purchases or balance transfers on the Norwegian Cruise Line World Mastercard; the regular APR applies to all transactions from the time you open the account. If you book a cruise, that means there's no way to spread out the cost over several months without carrying a balance and paying interest.
The best introductory 0% APR credit cards available
Rewards rate
You'll earn the following rewards when you use the Norwegian Mastercard:
3x points per $1 spent on Norwegian Cruise Line, including cruise fare and on-board purchases
2x points per $1 spent on airfare and hotel stays
How to earn rewards
Norwegian is the third-largest cruise line in the world, serving nearly 3 million guests per year. If you have the Norwegian Cruise Line World Mastercard, you can earn rewards by booking cruises on one of the company's 17 ships.
You can also earn a higher rewards rate on airfare and hotel stays, so using the card whenever you travel will allow you to earn more rewards quickly. For example, here is how much you could earn in rewards by spending $6,000 on a Norwegian cruise vacation:
Depending on how you redeemed those rewards, you could get as much as $140 in value for your points.
How to redeem rewards
You can redeem your Norwegian Mastercard points when you've accrued at least 2,500 points. The card allows you to redeem your points in the following ways:
Norwegian cruise stateroom upgrades
Norwegian cruise onboard credits
Car rentals
Hotel stays
Cash in the form of statement credits
In general, your points are worth one cent each; some redemption methods, such as gift cards, may have a different value. You'll typically get the most value from your points by redeeming them for future Norwegian Cruise Line cruises, stateroom upgrades, and onboard credits.
Additional benefits
Although it is a travel rewards card, the Norwegian Cruise Line World Mastercard's benefits could be more extensive. However, it does offer the following benefits:
Cell phone protection: Pay your cell phone bill with your card and your phone is automatically covered against damage or theft, up to a maximum of $600 per claim and $1,000 per account. Each claim is subject to a $50 deductible.
Mastercard Global Service: If you're traveling and lose your card or it's stolen, Mastercard Global Service can ship you a new card, and you may qualify for an expedited cash advance.
Mastercard Airport Concierge: The Airport Concierge is a service that can connect you to chauffeured service to and from the airport, assist you with luggage at baggage claim, or escort you through the airport.
Who is the Norwegian Cruise Line Mastercard best for?
The Norwegian Cruise Line World Mastercard is suitable for cruising enthusiasts who prefer Norwegian Cruise Line over other cruise lines. It offers a higher rewards rate on Norwegian bookings and no annual fee.
However, the card's value is limited for other travelers. If you aren't an avid cruiser, you may get more value from another travel rewards card with a more general rewards structure.
Norwegian Cruise Line Mastercard card pros
No foreign transaction fees: The Norwegian Cruise Line World Mastercard doesn't charge foreign transaction fees , so there's no cost to use the card to make purchases in other countries — a useful perk when you're on a cruise with different ports of call in multiple countries.
No annual fee: Unlike many travel rewards cards, the Norwegian Mastercard doesn't have an annual fee.
Cell phone protection: The Norwegian Mastercard includes cell phone protection, protecting you against theft or damages.
Norwegian Cruise Line Mastercard cons
Sparse travel benefits: Unlike many major travel credit cards, the Norwegian Cruise Line World Mastercard's list of benefits is quite limited. It lacks common travel benefits like trip cancellation or interruption insurance, trip accident insurance or baggage delay reimbursement.
Lower rewards on most purchases: Only Norwegian purchases are eligible for the highest rewards rate. All other purchases give you a lower rate of rewards, making it more difficult to build points.
No promotional APR on purchases or balance transfers: Although many travel cards have special promotional APRs, particularly for new travel bookings, the Norwegian Mastercard doesn't have a promotional APR for purchases or balance transfers.

Alternative cards to consider
If you aren't a fan of cruises or like more flexibility with your rewards, consider these alternatives:
Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card
Why we like it : With no annual fee, the VentureOne Rewards card allows you to earn unlimited 1.25 miles per $1 spent. And the card has a generous introductory APR offer on purchases and balance transfers, giving you plenty of time to pay off your trip without accruing interest.
Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card
Why we like it : The Chase Sapphire Preferred card has a $95 annual fee, but it could be well worth the investment. Besides a valuable rewards program, it provides robust travel benefits that the Norwegian Cruise Line World Mastercard doesn't. Benefits include trip cancellation or interruption insurance, auto rental damage collision waiver protection, baggage delay insurance, trip delay reimbursement and travel and emergency assistance.
Hilton Honors American Express Card
Why we like it : The Hilton Honors Amex has no annual fee, and you can earn 7x points per $1 spent on Hilton hotel stays, 5x points per $1 spent at U.S. restaurants, U.S. supermarkets, and U.S. gas stations, and 3x points per $1 spent on all other purchases (see rates and fees ; terms apply). The card also includes added perks like complimentary silver Hilton Honors status and car rental loss and damage insurance*.
*Eligibility and benefit level varies by card. Terms, conditions, and limitations apply. Please visit americanexpress.com/benefitsguide for more details. Underwritten by Amex Assurance Company.

How to save on cruises with AARP Travel
MSN has partnered with The Points Guy for our coverage of credit card products. MSN and The Points Guy may receive a commission from card issuers.
Savings-conscious consumers have long gravitated toward AARP. The advocacy organization for older Americans negotiates discounts on everything from mobile phone plans and drug prescriptions to restaurants, hotels and, yes, cruises. While “older” generally connotes seniors ages 65 and above, AARP membership is open to Americans who are considerably younger. But is it worth subscribing if you’re looking to save money on your next cruise?
I remember feeling insulted when right before my 50th birthday I received an invitation by mail to join AARP. “I’m nowhere near retirement,” I thought as I crumpled it, mumbled something about ageism and tossed it in the trash. This was years after AARP (pronounced A-A-R-P with the letters sounded out) officially changed its name to its acronym. It was founded in 1958 as the American Association of Retired Persons, but as leading-edge baby boomers began retiring in their 50s, AARP started to engage with them to encourage younger membership.
For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG’s cruise newsletter .
More than a decade later I’m still not retired, but this assignment gave me an excuse to finally join AARP. When I did, I took a look at the perks of membership to see which benefits would be useful to my travel plans. Here’s what I learned about how to save on cruises with AARP Travel.
You don’t have to be retired or age 50-plus to join AARP
You do need to be age 50 or older to reap full benefits, but Americans ages 18 to 49 can also join AARP. Folks under 50 can receive most member benefits, aside from those restricted by law or contract, such as certain insurance products.
To sign up, simply visit AARP.org and click “Join Now.” Membership is $16 per year, although rates can be as low as $9 per year if you sign up for a multiyear membership term.
Related: This annual membership can save you hundreds on flights and hotels
When you join, you’ll also get a second free membership for another adult in your household, as well as a monthly AARP Bulletin and the bimonthly AARP The Magazine.
You can book cruise travel via the AARP Travel Center Powered by Expedia
The booking engine that offers member discounts for cruises, as well as hotels and rental cars, is the AARP Travel Center Powered by Expedia . This is where you can search for ocean or river cruises, just as you would on Expedia, with an added bonus: AARP members can receive up to $100 onboard credit on more than 15 cruise lines and up to $200 onboard credit on select Holland America Line cruises.
You can search for a cruise by using a drop-down menu of almost two dozen destinations (you have to pick one to search) and then plugging in your desired travel dates.
The ocean cruise options are fairly extensive but not deeply discounted
Since Expedia powers the AARP Travel Center, it offers access to an extensive range of cruises to global destinations, from a three-night Caribbean sailing from Miami on Norwegian Sky to an 80-night world cruise on Cunard ‘s Queen Victoria. In all, I found thousands of sailings offered by most major cruise lines through mid-2025.
When I searched for Caribbean cruises during the period from Jan. 1 to April 30, 2024, the booking engine returned more than 800 options offered by 13 cruise lines. When I narrowed my search to just premium and luxury cruise lines, I saw a seven-night Caribbean itinerary from Miami on Oceania ‘s new cruise ship Vista in mid-February priced at $2,599 per person for a balcony cabin with bonus shore excursion, beverage, specialty dining and Wi-Fi inclusions. This Western Caribbean itinerary calls on Cozumel, Mexico; Roatan, Honduras; Costa Maya, Mexico; and Harvest Caye, Belize, with two sea days.
That seemed like a terrific deal, but when I checked Oceania’s website, I found the same price with all the included bonuses. The only difference was the “up to $100” onboard credit available with AARP membership. In this case, the credit was the full $100 because the cruise fare was more than $2,000. Cruises priced below $2,000 per person get a $50 credit.
Related: The 5 best destinations you can visit on an Oceania Cruises ship
Other deals in the luxury category included a seven-night Caribbean cruise in late February 2024 in a verandah suite aboard Seabourn Ovation for $3,249 per person. The cruise departs from St. Maarten and calls on the British Virgin Islands, St. Kitts and Nevis, Dominica, Guadeloupe and Martinique before ending in Barbados. On Seabourn ’s website, verandah suites for this itinerary started at $3,419 per person. So, the AARP price did offer a savings of $150 per person — plus the $100 onboard credit.
Budget-minded cruisers can also find plenty of three-night sailings for $300 per person or less (for an inside or ocean-view cabin on Norwegian Sky with free drinks, dining and excursion credits) and even some seven-night sailings for under $500 per person (for an inside cabin on Royal Caribbean , MSC Cruises and Princess Cruises ships). All were similar to what’s available on the cruise lines’ websites, but with AARP qualified for an onboard credit of $50.
Cruisers who prefer Holland America also have plenty of choices. They can, for example, book a seven-night Caribbean cruise from Fort Lauderdale in early March 2024 aboard Nieuw Statendam that visits Jamaica; Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands; Cozumel; and Half Moon Cay, Bahamas. The price? An inside cabin was priced at $614 per person (comparable to what HAL offers on its website) and came with a $50 onboard credit.
What I discovered is that the $200 onboard credit deal with AARP links directly to Holland America’s website for booking and is valid only for balcony and suite bookings on select cruises lasting 10 days or more.
AARP members can also book expedition cruises , such as 12-night Antarctic Explorer itineraries on Viking Octantis and Viking Polaris, via the AARP Travel Center. These are priced at $11,995 per person (the same price as on Viking’s website) with just a $25 deposit. Again, the only savings is the $100 onboard credit.
Basically, the AARP Travel Center seems to be an expedient way to compare ocean cruise deals as they are offered by individual cruise lines via the booking engine Expedia — with the chance of scoring a slightly discounted cruise fare and the added bonus of a $50, $100 or $200 onboard credit, depending on the cruise booked.
AARP Travel Center has offers from 4 major river cruise lines
The AARP Travel Center also allows you to search and compare river cruises by searching the destination “Europe” and a specific date range.
A search for European river cruises in 2024 and 2025 turned up hundreds of options on river ships operated by AmaWaterways, Avalon Waterways, Uniworld River Cruises and Viking. Itineraries ranged from a seven-night Rhine River cruise from Amsterdam to Basel, Switzerland, in late March 2024 aboard Avalon Panorama for $1,949 per person to several sailings of 20 nights or more priced at $15,000 per person and above for suite accommodations.
There were also more than a dozen Viking itineraries on the Rhine in March and early April 2024 for $1,999 per person, which is the same price featured on Viking’s website. Uniworld prices start at $2,999 per person, also comparable to its website, while AmaWaterways ’ value fares ($1,919 to $2,159 per person for Rhine cruises) all matched the cruise line’s pricing — and were in February 2024. Brrr!
A search for river cruises in Asia in 2024 and 2025 turned up more than 300 sailings on AmaWaterways, Avalon Waterways and Uniworld, most 12 to 14 nights in length with prices ranging from $6,999 to $8,399 per person.
Once again, the AARP Travel Center seems to be an efficient aggregator, pulling deals from Expedia’s booking engine. River cruise fares also are eligible for a $50 or $100 onboard credit.
River cruise fans can find additional members-only deals beyond onboard credit
AARP members also have access to specific deals on river cruises offered by AARP-preferred travel providers.
Offers include saving up to $100 per person on river cruises booked via Grand European Travel. These are aboard luxury river cruise ships in Europe operated by Uniworld, and the $100 discount per person is off prices comparable to those listed when booking directly with Uniworld.
For example, the eight-day Enchanting Danube itinerary in March and April 2024 aboard S.S. Maria Theresa starts at $3,299 per person, the same as on Uniworld’s website. The total savings? A $100 per person discount if booked with Grand European Travel.
Another savings opportunity is $50 off per person on Collette cruisetours . Cruise options here are more limited and are mostly on Amadeus River Cruises ships on the Rhine and Danube, plus some small-ship coastal cruising in Croatia and tours in Egypt featuring a four-night cruise.
Members-only benefits also include 5% off select rail-and-cruise vacations with Vacations by Rail . The discount is offered on a variety of itineraries in Europe that combine rail travel with cruises aboard river ships operated by CroisiEurope and Amadeus. The catch: All tours begin in London (Vacations by Rail’s parent company is British), which can be a detour for American travelers because it’s simpler to arrive by air in Amsterdam, Basel, Budapest or Bordeaux, France, where these cruises begin.
Some guided tours are 12 days, with four days of rail travel and hotel stays in advance of a seven-night cruise. Reviews, however, mention the hassle of getting luggage on and off trains by yourself (there are no porters).
Related: Best cruises for seniors who love to travel by sea
The cost of the four-day rail/hotel portion of Vacation by Rail’s 12-day Glacier Express & the Majestic Rhine cruise-and-rail tour also seems to account for about half of the overall cost for one-third of the days. The price is $5,095 per person for a June 2024 package, but the seven-night Classical Rhine itinerary on board MS Amadeus Star from Basel to Amsterdam that is included can be booked on the Amadeus website for about $2,600 per person on dates in May and July or $1,913 per person in April.
Both the agility required for train travel and the cost of the four-day rail tour are something to consider when weighing the value of a 5% discount.
Discounted cruise line gift cards are available to AARP Rewards members
Members who sign up for AARP Rewards — which lets you earn points by taking knowledge-boosting quizzes or using fitness-tracking or money-crunching tools — can also purchase gift cards for five cruise lines at a 10% discount. Applicable lines include Carnival Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises, Holland America, Princess and Royal Caribbean.
AARP Rewards members have two options: $100 gift cards priced at $90 ($92 for Princess) and $500 gift cards priced at $450 ($460 for Princess). You can use these gift cards to pay for a portion of your cruise fare or, on some lines, onboard expenses.
Card availability and amounts may change at any time. You can purchase a maximum of 25 gift cards each month.
You can find deals for pre- or post-cruise hotel stays and get a discount on British Airways
You might save the most money by booking a pre- or post-cruise hotel stay with one of AARP Travel Center’s dozens of hotel partners, most of which offer a 10% discount off the best available nightly rate. The list includes Hilton, InterContinental, Radisson, Holiday Inn, Best Western, Embassy Suites, Wyndham, Waldorf Astoria, Conrad, Kimpton and Hotel Indigo.
AARP also has partnered with British Airways. Members save $65 off World Traveller (economy) and World Traveller Plus (premium economy) or $200 off Club World (business class) fares when they purchase round-trip transatlantic tickets online to more than 130 destinations, including Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Restrictions do apply.
You can save money with AARP, but you should also do your homework
The AARP Travel Center seems to be a terrific place to compare fares when deciding which cruise line and month best suits your budget. Whether you eventually book via AARP, the cruise line’s website or elsewhere depends on your preference. (Remember, travel agents and advisers often have deals with extras that websites don’t.)
With similar pricing, it probably depends on whether the onboard credit is a better bonus than perks offered elsewhere.
Signing up for email offers from your preferred cruise line and checking its “deals” or “offers” tab on a regular basis might be your best bet for scoring a top deal. However, there’s no doubt that AARP’s $9 to $16 annual membership fee quickly pays for itself with even a one-time onboard credit — and there is a potential for additional savings. No matter your age, it can’t hurt to sign up.

SPONSORED: With states reopening, enjoying a meal from a restaurant no longer just means curbside pickup.
And when you do spend on dining, you should use a credit card that will maximize your rewards and potentially even score special discounts. Thanks to temporary card bonuses and changes due to coronavirus, you may even be able to score a meal at your favorite restaurant for free.
These are the best credit cards for dining out, taking out, and ordering in to maximize every meal purchase.

I've worked on cruise ships for years. I always see passengers make these 13 mistakes.
I've worked on cruise ships for over six years, so I've seen many passengers make mistakes.
Missing the ship at port or booking excursions with outside operators could be costly and risky.
If you don't set your phone to airplane mode, you may rack up overseas roaming charges.
After over six years working on ships for a major cruise line , I've witnessed tons of travel blunders that prevent guests from having the best possible experience.
Here are 13 common mistakes I see travelers make:
Not reading the fine print can lead to conduct issues later
Passengers usually come on the ship excited for a good time, and for many, this involves a drinks package . And with lots of drinks can come rowdiness.
I've come across a few troublemakers who had no idea that smashing Champagne glasses in the hot tub could get you booted off the ship.
Every passenger consents to a hefty conduct policy when they book the cruise, so make sure to read through it to know what's prohibited on board.
Make sure to put your phone on airplane mode to avoid expensive roaming charges
Cellular rates at sea can sneak up on you, and you can easily rack up a $500 roaming bill.
Even if you're not actively on your phone, most are still using data, so make sure to put yours on airplane mode to avoid roaming charges.
Really, just turn your phone off unless you're using it to take photos or access the ship's WiFi.
Many passengers don't take advantage of the different dining options on board
There are more complimentary dining areas than just the buffet. Solarisys/Shuttershock
I often see passengers eat all three meals at the buffet every day. I know some people just really love the self-serve option, but it surprises me how many guests have no idea what's included with their trip.
Many times, the biggest shock to most first-time cruisers is that the dining room is included on most ships. Yes, this means a sit-down meal where you can order seven appetizers, five entrées, and 12 extra cookies for a midnight snack.
There are also so many spots with free food around most ships, like a pizza station, 24-hour ice-cream machine, and small cafés. Just be aware that specialty dining, like the steak house , might cost extra.
Leaving your room key behind is more of a hassle than you'd expect
It is not just a room key — it's your onboard credit card, ticket on and off the ship, and identification for the week.
Everything is connected to that card, so make sure to set up your information online ahead of time so you can start swiping the moment you get on board.
Security will scan it when you pass through the gangway to know who is on or off the ship, so it's especially important to have it on port days.
If you lose it, report it to the service desk immediately to ensure that no one else spends your money.
Many guests don't know they can bring their own wine on the ship
While many people think no outside alcohol is permitted on the ship, many major cruise lines allow passengers over the age of 21 to bring a bottle or two of wine on boarding day, so you can stop smuggling drinks in empty mouthwash bottles.
Some terminals will even sell wine to boarding travelers. If you buy alcohol in a port, you'll usually have to check it upon reentering the ship, and it'll be delivered to your room on the last night.
Missing the all-aboard time on port days is an expensive mistake
In my years of working cruises, I have seen more than a handful of guests miss the ship.
Although this is a huge fear for most passengers, it usually happens to avid cruisers — people who have been to the port many times before sometimes assume the all-aboard time is always the same.
But this time varies by cruise, and it's stated on multiple signs at the exit gangway, in the daily planner, and in the captain's announcement.
Also, always triple-check whether the all-aboard time is based on the ship's clock or the local time.
If you miss the ship, you'll often have to get yourself to the next port, which can be very pricey.
Passengers miss out on discounts by not booking their next cruise while still on the ship
Booking a future vacation while on a ship can get you bigger discounts on cruises , access to new itineraries not open to the general public yet, and a lot of onboard credit.
These booking appointments are usually filled up by the last few days of the cruise, so head there at the beginning of your stay for more deals and no wait.
Booking a tour with an outside operator can be risky
Ships usually won't wait for outside tours to return. Erica DePascale
Although it might be a lot cheaper to book your tours independently, it's also a lot riskier.
Excursions booked through the ship are with verified operators. Most cruise lines will wait for the ship's tour to return before leaving the port, even if it's hours late.
But this is not the case if you book on your own, and running through the port to find the ship sailing away is probably not the excursion you're looking for.
Immediately removing the automatic gratuity affects many staff members
On most cruise ships, there is a preset daily gratuity charged per passenger unless it's removed at the guest-services desk.
I see so many people come on board and immediately remove the charge, but this fee is usually split between your housekeeping, dining, and cleaning staff. It is essential to their jobs and affects their livelihoods.
I'd recommend waiting until the end of the cruise to make sure you're happy with the service instead of removing it on day one. You can also increase or decrease the amount instead of cutting it.
Packing prohibited items can lead to a headache
As confident as you are that you can sneak on your portable iron, I seriously advise against packing anything that's not allowed on board.
Security scans your bags on embarkation day, and if a prohibited item — like an iron, a bottle of vodka, or a candle — is found, they will hold your bag.
Your luggage won't be delivered to your door, and you may have to wait several hours until security contacts you, brings you to the holding area to search the bag, and confiscates the item until the end of the cruise.
Prepare your necessary travel documents to avoid trouble at ports
It's your responsibility to know which documents you need. Erica DePascale
Cruise ships travel all over the world, so check if you need specific visas or documents based on your nationality.
You are responsible for knowing and bringing your own paperwork. If you don't have the right documents, you might not be able to get off at a port or, even worse, be allowed back on the ship.
I saw this happen when traveling to India with many American guests, a handful of whom didn't realize they needed a visa.
Dressing down on formal night can limit your dining options
Even though walking through the promenade in shorts is your choice, many guests aren't aware that there's usually a formal evening on most cruises.
Most passengers don evening gowns and suits on formal nights, and I've met cruisers who wished they would've packed at least one nice item — besides their Margaritaville shirt, of course.
Passengers not formally dressed on this evening usually aren't allowed to eat in the ship's main dining rooms, though the buffet is open to everyone.
It's worth learning the difference between port and starboard
Different announcements will direct passengers to either the port side or starboard side of the ship, so it's best to brush up on the jargon before your vacation.
Port is the left side of the boat and starboard is the right, always configured facing the front of the ship.
Just remember that "port" and "left" are both four letters. You'll thank me later.

Investor demand has been so strong for shares of hot HR startup Rippling – over $2 billion worth of term sheets, it says – that it is allowing former employees to also participate in its giant, tender offer sale, the company told TechCrunch. Rippling has also told employees who have previously sold shares, particularly if those sales were outside its previous tender offer, that they would not be authorized to sell as many shares this time around.
