The Nest Self-Catering Holiday

The Nest is a fully equipped Self-Catering Holiday Cottage, situated privately in the bush-area about 3.5km from the main lodge (Eagles Rest)An illuminated waterhole makes sure you won’t miss the thirsty wildlife through the night and you can enjoy the beautiful bird life around this waterhole. This self-catering unit provides sleeping facilities for up 6 people, 3 spacious bedrooms with double or twin beds and two sleeper couches per room.  With an open-plan kitchen and lounge. Ideal accommodation for a group of friends or a family. A cozy swimming pool with a BBQ area, surrounded by big trees gives you the refreshing relaxation you need after a long, warm African day.All guest must check in at the main lodge and get direction to the Nest. No self-driving is allowed. Game drives can also be booked at reception. 

Otjiwa Safari Lodge is one of the oldest private game farms in Namibia, which offers about 25 different game species, such as giraffes, zebra, springbuck and mainly the white Rhino, and if you are lucky enough, you will also spot a leopard roaming its freedom. Otjiwa is 12,000 hectares in total and have up to 21 water dams, each with its own natural habitat and bird life. To enjoy Otjiwa to its full potential we offer the following:

Horseback riding

Experience nature at your feet with this adventurous activity. Our horses are specially trained by our professionals and you will get to experience Namibian nature. Our horseback riding is suitable for beginners and older children. Your horseback experience will be about one hour, with our guide. On your trip you will receive  homemade snacks and water.Bookings can be made in advance or upon check-in. Maximum 4 pax per trip. 

Ombu Village tours

With this culture rich activity you can expect the following: You will be transported with Otjiwa guides and vechiles to the Ombu Village location. Here you will be greeted with the friendly staff of the Ombu Village. They will take you through a historical tour from how architecture, culture and traditions formed during the centuries. You will learn about their believe systems, customs and traditions, marriage and economic systems. Guest are encouraged to engage, touch and feel during the tour. This activity includes experiencing some of the following: Milk churningMilking cowsHoly fire ritualsDressing in traditional dresses

We offer guided cycling to guest that would love to experience nature directly. We do not offer bicycles to rent, guest would have to bring their own gear. A minimum of two cyclists are needed for this activity. It’s important to pre-book this activity.

Sundowner Game Drive

You can expect to see most of the game that Otjiwa has to offer. Ranging from the national small Springbok to our biggest White Rhino. The sundowner game drives are about 2 hours long, where you will pass a few of the 22 water dams, each with its own beauty and natural bird habitats. At the end of your sundowner game drive you will be taken to one of the hills on the private reserve, where your eyes can feast on Namibia’s famous sunsets, while enjoying a picnic basket with some refreshments. (*Picnic basket only included in the SUNDOWNER game drive, not the normal game drive)

With all that Otjiwa has to offer, you can definitely enjoy it on foot. From the smallest insects to the largest antelope, walking through nature will definitely show you all its secrets. With our guides knowing nature like the back of their hands, they can tell you all there is to know about the Namibian wildlife. 

Rhino Tracking

With Rhino tracking we have a well-trained guide that tracks the Rhino’s by vehicle and then once spotted, the guide will take you closer on foot. If you are looking for an adrenaline rush experience, this is definitely it. Coming up close to such a spectacular animal will truly let the blood rush through your veins. 

Night Drive

With this activity you are more likely to find small predators and night animals. At night all the shy and small predators will come out, and maybe even a large leopard will show its appearance. Night drives will take place after dinner and with a cozy blanket and the fresh Namibian air, you can be sure to enjoy this outing.

Saurichnium Damarense at Mount Etjo - German archeologists Dr Huene in 1925 and Dr Gürich in 1926 were the first to discover and describe the footprints found in the Etjo sandstone.

Okapuka, meaning “small animal” in Herero lives up to its name already at first glance. Fast alle Sehenswürdigkeiten und Aktivitäten in Namibia sind für Kinder gut geeignet. Für größere Kinder kann es in Namibia mit Kanufahrten und Wandersafaris sogar eine sehr spektakuläre Rundreise werden. Etwas weniger spektakulär und genauso interessant sind die Wanderungen am Waterberg Plateau oder die Besichtigung des versteinerten Waldes in Khorixas. 

Während unseren Namibia Reisen bist du sehr abenteuerlich mit einem 4x4 Auto mit Dachzelt unterwegs, für eine Familie mit Kindern genau das Richtige. Das Zelten hat auf Kinder fast immer eine magische Wirkung. So kannst du am Abend gemütlich selber etwas kochen oder eine kleine Grillparty veranstalten. Es gibt jede Menge Supermärkte, in denen du die notwendigen Zutaten besorgen kannst. Auch kannst du am Abend mit den Kindern in einem Restaurant gemütlich essen gehen. In den größeren Städten sind gute Restaurants mit einer internationalen Küche zu finden. Die deutsche Küche ist noch immer sehr populär und oft steht Wienerschnitzel mit Pommes oder Apfelstrudel auf der Menükarte.

Die Infrastruktur an den Campingplätzen ist sehr ausgeprägt. Vor allem haben die Kinder viel Platz zum Spielen und meistens sind Schwimmbäder vorhanden. Auf kleineren Campingplätzen oder Guestfarms befinden sich kleinere Wildtiere auf dem Gelände. In Etosha kommen manchmal die Schakale zu den Stellplätzen, in Grootfontein und Sesfontein laufen zahme Strauße herum und in Kamanjab wohnen außer 3 zahmen auch noch 30 halbwilde Geparde, natürlich hinter einem Zaum. Kinder finden dies meistens sehr spannend.

Etwas gemütlicher wird eine Namibia Reise für Kinder mit Übernachtungen in gemütlichen Lodges. Wir haben die kinderfreundlichen Lodges für dich gesucht und sind fündig geworden. Und wir buchen natürlich nur Lodges, wo deine Kinder auf Safaris zugelassen sind. Logisch, oder?

Obwohl Namibia ein afrikanisches Land ist, wirst du von den Vorteilen überrascht sein. Du bist hier in einem gut entwickelten und sehr sicheren Land mit einem guten Gesundheitssystem unterwegs. Das Afrika, welches wir vom Fernseher kennen mit Armut und schlechten Lebensumständen wirst du in Namibia nicht finden.

Die offizielle Sprache ist Englisch, aber die Namibier sprechen oft auch deutsch.

Einen Jetlag wirst du nicht haben. Zur europäischen Sommerzeit ist es in Namibia eine Stunde früher, zur europäischen Winterzeit ist es in Namibia eine Stunde später. In Namibia wird die Uhr nicht mehr umgestellt.

In den größeren Städten sind große Supermärkte vorzufinden, in denen wirklich alles zu kaufen ist. Und auch am Land findest du öfters kleinere Läden wo es Brot, Kohlen, Getränke und Wasser zu kaufen gibt. Großeinkäufe solltest du in den großen Städten wie Windhuk, Swakopmund, Otjiwarongo und Tsumeb erledigen. Geld abheben geht meistens in kleineren Orten direkt im Supermarkt bei einer ATM Maschine. Tankstellen findest du nicht überall. In den dünnbesiedelten Gebieten ist es ratsam etwas öfters zu tanken.

Unsere Sommermonate sind sicherlich eine gute Reisezeit um Namibia mit den Kindern zu besuchen. In Namibia ist es dann Winter mit angenehmen Temperaturen tagsüber. Obwohl es in der Nacht ziemlich abkühlen kann, wachst du am nächsten Tag eigentlich immer mit einem blauen Himmel und strahlendem Sonnenschein wieder auf. Es ist im Juni und Juli empfehlenswert, etwas öfters in der Lodge zu übernachten. Und du hast noch einen Vorteil. Es ist Trockenzeit! Viele Tiere finden in der Natur kein Wasser mehr und kommen zu den künstlich angelegten Wasserstellen um Wasser zu trinken. Und die Sträucher und Bäume haben ihre Blätter bereits verloren, wodurch du die Wildtiere besser finden und sehen kannst.

Außerdem werden die Kinder im Auto ziemlich durchgeschüttelt und es fehlt die Muskulatur diese Erschütterungen aufzufangen. Das Resultat ist ein Muskelkater.

Guided Dune Walk - Starting from N$ 6720.00 pp Explore the Kalahari on foot with a guide. Refreshments and a light snack will be provided. Morning only. Only to be booked directly at the Lodge. On request.

Morning Nature Drives for Families (guided) - Starting from N$ 755.00 pp Join a 2-hour morning drive with a dedicated tour guide. After a leisurely drive guests will arrive at one of the red dunes. The red sand of the dunes invites all children to play. The family will spend some relaxed time on the dunes with coffee and hot chocolate. The guide will share some interesting facts on fauna and flora with the children (and their parents). Morning only. Subject to availability.
