If you work anywhere within the performing arts, chances are at some point along your career, you will either be hitting the road yourself or managing a group of artists and management team who will. According to the Broadway League , revenues from “Touring Broadway” continue to grow each year, passing the 1 billion dollar mark for the 2016-2017 season. Additionally, Live Nation made nearly 6 million dollars alone in 2016 from live entertainment. Clearly, there is a demand from fans around the country to catch their favorite shows or artists in person. But, once you are working on the road, how can you keep up with the demands of a schedule constantly in flux while keeping everyone you manage on track? Turns out, there is a powerful app called Master Tour that can help.

The history and goals of the platform

Master Tour was was developed by Paul Bradley  (former touring musician and Manager with 90’s band The Drovers) and Ian Kuhn (sound engineer for Smashing Pumpkins and Dave Matthews Band) after identifying a need on the road for better organization and communication among the management team, crew, and artists. They turned the custom databases they developed into proprietary software, which eventually became branded as Master Tour. It now boasts over 100,000+ mobile users, and its main goal is to increase efficiency and communication on tour through shared technology.

  Master tour has two tiers of product functionality:

The free version of the app is what you artists and crew download onto their smartphones.

1. Daily itineraries: It allows each person on the tour to easily view the daily itineraries (which works both on or offline).

2. Guest Lists: Each artist can send guest list requests directly through the system.

3. Set lists:  Set lists for each venue are easy to access and view.

4. Sync: The schedule syncs with iCal, Outlook, and Google Calendar.

Besides not having a feature that allows the group to fast forward through the daily 8 hour + drives to each ven ue, there is only one:

1. Alerts for important updates : Even though the app provides the ability to for the tour manager or whoever is managing the app day-to-day to send push notifications, it is a manual process on their behalf. It would be great if there was a way for artists or others on the tour to receive a push notification directly to their device if a change was made to the schedule for something like sound check, bus call, etc., to eliminate the need to constantly check the app and refresh it for updates.

Professional

If you are managing a tour, this is the level for you. At an additional $49.99 a month, you receive all features of the free version, plus, you have full access to the desktop platform. This allows you to create and send push notifications to everyone on your tour, generate accounting reports and day sheets, can manage full guest lists, and create and edit notes for your whole group to see.

As a touring fiddle player with the band Gaelic Storm , I have only used the app from an artist’s perspective. Therefore, I sat down with the man who relies on this app daily, our band’s tour manager Josh Waishes, to find out what he likes about the app and what features he feels could be improved. 

1.     Desktop Dashboard: This is a separate software program that you can download onto your desktop once you purchase the professional subscription and is how you manage the majority of those features. It’s relatively easy to use, customizable, and gives you a great overview of what your tour has in store for you.

2.     Calendar Sync Features: As mentioned above, the app has syncing capabilities with iCal, Google Calendar, and Outlook, but also has the ability to sync with other platforms, such as Bandsintown and Excel. few buttons, Josh can easily bring the venue, time, and contact information for each gig in a tour from Bandsintown to automatically populate in Master Tour for each tour member to see easily.

3.     Itinerary Tasks: This feature allows you to convey as much detail as you need to everyone on your tour. You’ll never have to answer another question individual about what time the tour is leaving the next day, what hotel the group is staying in, what the weather will be, where the nearest coffee shop is, etc. It’s all right here, and everyone on your tour has access to it once you input the details.

4.      Accounting Features: For large tours, this feature is particularly handy because it allows you to manage all of your accounting details as contracted per venue, saving a lot of time and energy on the backend. You can use the dropdown and input features to manage the rates or guarantees that go to you versus the promoter or venue, and use their developed template for calculating income/expenses.

5.     Tags: This feature is a local directory housed within the platform. Developer Paul Brady explains , “It’s basically Yelp for touring people, by touring people. So, say you need to know the best coffeehouse in Seattle for post-gigs, or you found an awesome wine bar or museum for a day off in Chicago, or the perfect guitar tech in Biloxi. Open the Master Tour app and you can tag it, or you can see where other touring artists have tagged and commented. This may get more social as we go along, but it’s getting a lot of great reviews and being used a lot.”  

6.     Hotel Information: The platform is synced with geo-location hotel information across the globe, which makes it easy to insert where your tour group is staying each night. Additionally, there is a saved hotel feature, so when you are looking to book in an area you have previously toured in, you can see where you stayed the last time you were there.

7.      Detailed tracking:  Within the professional version, there are areas to house all relevant documents for the tour, list all your gear down to the make, model, and serial number, and compile your tour logos. This further allows the app to be a one-stop shop for all your touring needs and cuts down on emailing files back and forth, keeping track of external hard drives or jump drives (which always seem to find a way to hide from you on tour), or external document housing sites like Google docs. 

8.     Other Integration:  The app also syncs seamlessly to Apple and Google Maps, along with Uber. Anyone on the tour can easily order an Uber from where they are directly to either the venue or the hotel without leaving the app.

1.     Limited accessibility from smartphones and tablets: The premium feature is really designed to be used from a desktop. While an administrator can edit the schedule and itinerary notes, many of the full-blown features (such as accounting, syncing with other platforms) are only accessible through the desktop program. Additionally, while you can still make edits on a computer if not connected to the internet, in order to sync to the rest of your group, you must access the web. This sounds obvious, but as anyone who has toured throughout remote areas of the country, you know that at times this is easier said than done.  

2.     Customized push notifications needed: There are certain features that could be displayed more prominently to the administrator, such as when someone is added to the guest list. The number of guests fluctuates greatly from venue to venue depending on the contacts that the tour has in the area, and sending the final guest list to the venue, especially with last minute changes, can be difficult to stay on top of in the middle of a hectic day of touring. Receiving a push notification would be good way to remember these last minute and often fluctuating details.

3.     No simple printing feature from smart phone: So much of what happens on tour is on the go, and often, the luxury of sitting down at your laptop to make changes or print important documents like the set or guest lists is just not a reality. Unfortunately, the mobile app does not give you the ability to print these documents – you must do it from your computer.

All in all, these are minute complaints compared to the alternate reality of not having the app at all while on tour. It cuts down on unnecessary communication between management and the rest of the group on tour, it keeps everyone on the same page even when traveling in separate vehicles or coming from different areas of the country, and cuts down a lot of the daily stress for everyone involved.

Master Tour: The Next Killer App For Your Band

If you’ve ever been on tour, no matter the size, you know that the hardest part is everything but the few hours you play.  It’s the arrangements: travel itineraries, tickets, merch stock, scheduling, interviews, lodging, guest passes, and so many more details. Emails and texts are ineffective when things get complicated.

I was involved with a tour that used an app called Master Tour from Eventric , and it was an amazing experience; I wouldn’t tour without it now. I mean if it’s good enough for Queen Bey and Maroon 5 (plus hundreds of others), it’ll work for your tour. It’s an app that brings all of those nasty details into one place, affordably, distributed to everyone, without any special software, instantly.

Here’s how it works. An administrator – usually the tour/band manager – inputs the tour information into the web portal. Then, every member of your tour – from the drummer to the dancers to guitar techs and promo team – uses the free mobile app, which has all the information and communication built in. You get the schedules, setlists, call time, hotels, interview times, all of it.

Look, I’m not going to tell you this is an easy app/software to use, it isn’t. But, then again, neither is touring. It’s not meant to simple, it’s meant to be powerful, and it is.

The app has come a long way from its humble beginnings, and is adding new features all the time.

So, I spoke to CEO and co-founder, Paul Bradley, to get the inside scoop. I love Paul. He loves the business and is constantly thinking about how to streamline life for musicians and touring crews. Our interview ran about two hours and could’ve gone longer. So, this is edited for brevity.

The story of Master Tour starts with Paul finishing college in Des Moines, joining an independent label, becoming a booker, then tour manager, then road drummer for The Drovers in the ’90s – all before texts, email, and social. He and his partner, Ian Kuhn (sound for Smashing Pumpkins), developed custom databases in Filemaker (remember that?) and adapted the software for what the road demanded: venue lists, hotels, interviews, etc., and Ian took it with him when he joined Dave Matthews Band on tour.

By association with DMB, Paul met many other bands, like Beastie Boys and Barenaked Ladies; those early adopter bands used it, and gave feedback for improvements. As time went on, Filemaker was crashing and shipping discs to hundreds of bands made no sense. By  2005-2006, technology had improved and it was time to develop proprietary software to bring efficiencies for tour management, stadium level to small clubs. After some early investment, it took about four years to develop, and that’s really where Master Tour began.

Performer Mag: What problems is Master Tour meant to solve?

Paul Bradley: Efficiency and communication. That’s the core of what we’ve always tried to do. Now, everything is on a mobile phone; day sheet, interview times, guest lists, etc. The problem is that info is often spread out everywhere. A manager may be sending PDFs over email, sharing spreadsheets, and using multiple calendar apps. This may get more social as we go along, but it’s getting a lot of great reviews and being used a lot.

PM: Explain the two levels of Master Tour for our readers.

Mobile is the free app. So, the band, audio guys, techs etc. use that for free. It’s read-only mostly, but the team can do guest list requests, and also use Tags, if they’re anywhere in the world; they can privately or publicly tag a location – guitar shops, rental shops, videographers, coffee shops [and so forth]. Isaac Freeman III , aka Fatman Scoop , has died after the iconic musician collapsed onstage Friday night.

Scoop's tour manager broke the sad news when he said of the Grammy-winner, "I am honestly lost for words… You took me all over the world and had me performing alongside you on some of the biggest and greatest stages on this planet, the things you taught me have truely made me the man I am today. Thank you so much, I love you x."

Reminisce Festival, where Fatman Scoop was set to perform Sept. 7 also posted to Instagram saying, "It is with the deepest sorrow that we at Reminisce have received the devastating news of the tragic passing of the legendary Isaac Freeman III, known to us all as Fatman Scoop. This loss has left us all heartbroken."

Not long after, his family also released a statement, which said in part ... "He was the laughter in ours lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength and courage."

TMZ broke the news that the legendary hip hop hype man was performing at Town Center Park in Hamden, CT when he appeared to suffer a medical emergency.

Horrifying video showed Scoop collapse mid-performance.

The icon worked with a ton of big names in hip hop over the years ... collabing with the likes of Missy Elliott , Mariah Carey and Jermaine Dupri ... just to name a few.

Following his collapse and being rushed to the hospital, Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett asked fans to "please keep him in your thoughts and prayers."

We are out to Scoop's agent for more information ... so far, no word back.

Oasis issues warning after reunion tour tickets relisted for more than $11,000

Oasis has warned fans against purchasing tickets to their reunion tour via unauthorised resale sites. 

Tickets scooped up in a pre-sale ballot were seen listed for more than £6,000 minutes after first becoming available.

General sales for the band's 2025 tour will open Saturday evening, Australian time. 

Oasis has issued a warning against resale tickets for their reunion tour.

After much speculation online , the English rock band this week announced dates for 17 shows across the UK and Ireland in August and July next year.

A limited number of fans were able to purchase the first round of tickets through a ballot on Friday evening.

But tickets appeared on resale websites within minutes of a pre-sale, listed for thousands of pounds.

Fans shared screenshots of ticket listings on StubHub with asking prices of more than £6,000 ($11,644) for lower seating and general admission.

Oasis said according to the terms and conditions, tickets could only be resold at face value via Ticketmaster and Twickets.

"Tickets sold in breach of terms and conditions will be cancelled by the promoters," they wrote in a post to X.

Oasis promoters had previously issued a similar warning, telling fans tickets sold through "unauthorised resale platforms" would be in breach of terms and conditions and "may be cancelled".

Ahead of the pre-sale, promoters said standing tickets would cost £150 and standard seated tickets would range from £73 to £205.

The most expensive official package, available for five concerts at London's Wembley Stadium, is priced at £506.

About 1.4 million tickets are expected to be sold for the band's 17 shows across the UK and Ireland next year.

General sales will open on August 31 at 9am BST (6pm AEST) for the band's UK shows and 8am IST (5pm AEST) for its Ireland dates.

The English rock band announced they were reforming for the first time in 15 years earlier this week.

In-fighting between brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher boiled over on August 28, 2009, culminating in a backstage scuffle moments before they were set to play the Rock en Seine festival in Paris.

Noel Gallagher q uit the band the next day, saying he "simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer".

Long-awaited Oasis reunion hits snag as error messages, long queues greet fans scrambling for tickets

Hundreds of thousands of fans scrambling to get tickets for the long-awaited Oasis reunion tour were met with error messages and lengthy online queues as platforms strained under the demand.

The Britpop-era behemoth led by brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher sent fans into a frenzy this week when they announced they would play together for the first time in 15 years. They are scheduled to play 17 gigs in Cardiff, Manchester, Edinburgh and Dublin starting July 4, 2025.

More than 1 million tickets are up for sale at prices starting just under $100.

Early Saturday, some people attempting to get onto the handful of authorized sale sites, including Ticketmaster and Gigs and Tours, received error messages, while many others were told they were in a lengthy queue with thousands of people in line.

Within hours, tickets began to be offered on resale websites for as much as $7,800.

The band was quick to issue a warning , saying tickets could only be resold at face value through authorized sites.

"Tickets appearing on other secondary ticketing sites are either counterfeit or will be cancelled by the promoters," it said in a statement on social media .

Josh Jeffery, a videographer who lives near Edinburgh, spent hours moving up the online ticket queue, before "the whole site collapsed" at the last step.

"I've given up, my friends have given up," said Jeffery, who first saw Oasis in Manchester as a teenager in 1996. "We just decided it's too much hassle.

"As I was in the queue, I heard 'Wonderwall' blasting out from my neighbor's house," he added ruefully. "He'd obviously got tickets."

Some fans managed to buy tickets through a presale lottery on Friday. Barista Isabelle Doyle said she was "over the moon" after snagging two seats for one of the band's London shows.

"I've been a fan of Oasis for about 10 years now, literally since I was 11 years old," the 21-year-old said. "Finally to be able to see them after they got me through as a teenager, it's absolutely amazing and I'm so excited."

The tour will begin July 4 and 5 at the Principality Stadium. Oasis will also perform at Heaton Park in Manchester, on July 11, 12, 16, 19 and 20; London's Wembley Stadium on July 25, 26 and 30 and Aug. 2 and 3; Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on Aug. 8, 9 and 12; and Croke Park in Dublin on Aug. 16 and 17.

Band's break up and reunion

Formed in Manchester in 1991, Oasis was one of the most dominant British acts of the 1990s, releasing hits like "Wonderwall" and "Don't Look Back in Anger." Its sound was fueled by singalong rock choruses and the combustible chemistry between guitarist-songwriter Noel and singer-sibling Liam.

The group split in 2009 after many years of infighting. Noel Gallagher officially left the band just before a performance at a festival near Paris. Even before the dissolution, the two brothers had long had an antagonistic relationship.

"People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer," Noel Gallagher, the band's guitarist and songwriter, wrote in a statement at the time.

While the Gallagher brothers haven't performed together since both regularly performed Oasis songs at their solo gigs.

In 2011, Noel Gallagher told The Associated Press in an interview that he left the band after an incident in which Liam Gallagher started wielding a guitar "like an axe ... and he's swinging this guitar around and he kind of you know, he took my face off with it, you know?"

In 2019, Liam Gallagher told the AP he was ready to reconcile.

"The most important thing is about me and him being brothers," he said. "He thinks I'm desperate to get the band back together for money. But I didn't join the band to make money. I joined the band to have fun and to see the world."

Earlier this week, the Britpop progenitors ended  a few days of fan speculation of an upcoming reunion. A short video on the band's social media accounts Sunday night had revealed the date "27.08.24," and time "8 a.m.," written in the same font as the well-known Oasis logo. The brothers shared the same to their individual accounts.

Announcing the reunion, the band said fans would experience "the spark and intensity" that occurs only when they appear on stage together.

Big payday 

Prices for the London, Cardiff and Edinburgh concerts range from about $97 to just over $260 for seats, and about $200 to stand. In Manchester, the cheapest tickets are $195 to stand, with no seated option.

The costliest option is a $666 package for the London gigs that includes a pre-show party, admission to an Oasis exhibition, souvenirs and a "premium collectible item."

Tickets for the Dublin shows start at $96 plus a booking fee.

Alice Enders, head of research at media consultancy Enders Analysis, said the band could expect a big payday, though the tour, limited for now to the U.K. and Ireland, pales in comparison to global juggernauts like Taylor Swift's Eras tour.

"The streaming business doesn't really pay," she said. "Most artists nowadays, the only way they can earn money is being live."

She said Oasis is playing catch-up in a live music market that has seen "a relentless climb in expenditure, consumer expenditure, demand for festivals."

"It's been 15 years of a mega-trend that they missed out on, basically," Enders said. "So it's a good thing they're jumping on now. ... If they wait too long, then they are just a bunch of old geezers."

The host cities anticipate an economic boost to hotels, bars, restaurants and shops — especially Manchester, the band's hometown and a city renowned for its musical heritage.

Sacha Lord, Manchester's official nighttime economy adviser, said "there's a big buzz" in the city about the reunion.

"This is a homecoming gig," he said. "When they set foot on that stage for the first time, it's going to be a really special moment."
