iXS Reveals The All-New Tour Jacket Laminat-ST-Plus

Waterproof, Windproof, Breathable 

iXS has just revealed their all-new textile jacket – and judging by the specs, it’s a goodie. 

We’ve reviewed a few of iXS’s items before; from the Vidar gloves that we were able to try out , to the Curtis Jacket that our top-notch reviewer Rick covered back in 2016 , the brand seems to speak quite well to wBW’s high-flying ideals of quality and integrity – so let’s dig in and see what we’ve got. 

The iXS Tour Jacket Laminat-ST Plus , according to a recent press release, is comprised of a 2-layer fabric – called ‘solto-TEX® PLUS Laminate’ that is purportedly the reason why this unit has been getting such high ratings for waterproofing, sweat-wicking, and breathability. An included thermal lining can be removed from the jacket, with the width of the elbow and upper arm being fully adjustable. 

Features are pretty bang-on as well, with the Laminat-ST Plus boasting a covetous amount of pockets (6 outside, 2 inside, and 1 Napoleon at the chest) as well as reflective patches, a connection zipper that goes the full way around, 3 ventilation openings that can be tinkered with depending on the riding conditions, and a hem that can be cinched up thanks to a drawstring, for those especially wet commutes. 

The exact percentage of the material used for the jacket itself is as follows, according to iXS’s official webpage :

Shell: 100% polyamide

Lining: 82% polyamide, 18% elastane

Sleeve lining: 100% polyester

Thermo lining: 100% polyester

“The advantage of the iXS Tour Jacket Laminat-ST-Plus is that it will never become completely saturated with water,” states the press release.

IXS Introduces The Flex-ST Touring Jacket With Adaptive Fit

The Flex-ST touring jacket has adaptive size adjustment for an optimal fit.

Perfectly fitting clothing for motorbike riding is a must-have for several reasons. In the event of a fall, the only crush zone is between the rider and the tarmac. Protectors protect exposed parts of the body such as the shoulders, elbows and knees and should fit closely to the body so that they don’t move out of position. Motorbike clothing should therefore be neither too big nor too small and should adapt perfectly to the shape of the body. Quite apart from this, a motorbike tour is simply more fun if your clothing fits properly.

The new iXS Tour Jacket Flex-ST has a particularly flexible fit owing to the new SIZE-ADJUST-SYSTEM! Two circumferential zips from the jacket waist band at the front over the shoulders to the jacket waist band at the back make additional widths possible. Now, even a thick quilted jacket for cold days will fit underneath this jacket!

Alternatively, the jacket will also still have a perfect fit when the thermal lining is taken out on hot days. Fluctuations in the rider’s weight can also be balanced out with different adjustments of the Tour Jacket Flex-ST. By opening or closing the zips, the width of the jacket can be adjusted by up to 8 cm. Therefore an iXS Perfect Fit!

The Tour Jacket Flex-ST is also flexible to deal with temperature fluctuations and can remain in use all year round. The removable thermal lining ensures this on the one hand. It’s fitted with a side stretch so that it is compatible with the jacket’s SIZE-ADJUST-SYSTEM. A breathable net lining and a back protector pocket in 3D-mesh ensure improved moisture transport towards the outside and therefore an optimal body climate. If temperatures rise, six ventilation openings are available so that additional fresh air can be provided, if necessary.

High-quality Level 2 protectors at the shoulders and elbows as well as a fully-fledged back protector, which satisfies the latest CE safety standards, are part of the series equipment. The reflective transfer prints promote safety and are simultaneously attractive style elements. There is sufficient space to accommodate bits and pieces in the four outer pockets and the additional inner pockets. The sizes range from S to 5XL.

10 most beautiful places in Karelia (PHOTOS)

1. Petrozavodsk

The capital and the largest city in Karelia (with just under 300,000 people living there) is famous for having one of the most remarkable waterfronts in Russia. Lake Onega’s embankment is decorated with installations by contemporary artists from all over the world. And the sunsets here are simply unbelievable!

Architecture enthusiasts will fall in love with the old Karelian wooden houses in the city center, which is basically an open-air museum.

2. Ruskeala Mountain Park

Several years ago, these abandoned marble quarries were turned into a park. Marble was mined here beginning in the 18th century. Ruskeala marble was used in the decoration of St. Isaac's Cathedral and St. Michael's Castle in St. Petersburg, as well as the city’s Primorskaya and Ladozhskaya metro stations.

The main attraction at Ruskeala Park is a big canyon filled with blue water. You can also visit underground tunnels.

3. Kivach Falls

This waterfall features prominently in just about every tour of Karelia. It is impossible to miss! Kivach is translated from Finnish as “powerful, impetuous,” which is a very fitting description of this waterfall on the Suna River. At 10.7-meters high, Kivach is the second largest plain waterfall in Europe after Rhine Falls in Switzerland.

4. The Girvas extinct volcano

Girvas is not like any volcanoes we are used to. It looks like a rocky forest cut by numerous lakes and dams. But it is actually a volcano, or more precisely a paleo volcano, as scientists would say. It went extinct more than 2 billion years ago and is considered one of the oldest on the planet.

Kizhi island.

Lake Onega has more than 1,300 islands, but Kizhi is especially worth a visit. It is an island museum of wooden architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Medieval buildings were brought here from abandoned villages in northern Russian and restored. The heart of the ensemble is the Kizhi Pogost.

It consists of the 37-meter-tall Church of the Transfiguration, which was built in the early 18th century entirely from wood without a single nail. Here you will also find the Church of the Intercession, which has a partially preserved iconostasis and a 19th century bell tower.

6. Valaam Monastery

One of the oldest and most famous monasteries in Russia is located in the western part of Karelia on Lake Ladoga. The Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Saviour was founded in the 11th-12th centuries on the secluded Valaam Archipelago, which consists of 50 islands. Some of them are so close to each other that they seem like a single piece of land, while others are more remote and difficult to get to. On many of those islands, you can find secluded dwellings for monks that are called sketes.

Pilgrims and tourists come here not just because of the monastery’s religious history, but also to go on scenic walks around the islands.

7. Ladoga Skerries

One of the most beautiful national parks in Russia consists of hundreds of islands, canals and bays hidden away in the dense Karelian forests. It is one of the most popular fishing and kayaking destinations for tourists and locals alike.

8. White Sea Petroglyphs

These carvings on rocks—messages from people who lived in the area 5,000-7,000 years ago—are considered one of the main mysteries of Karelia. They can be found all over the region, but most of all near the city of Belomorsk in the north of the republic. There are more than 2,000 of them here, with new ones being discovered all the time. They depict scenes from the everyday life of the ancient residents, ranging from fishing to domestic scenes. There are even pictures of people on skis!

9. Rabocheostrovsk

In the 1920s, this old Karelian village on the shore of the White Sea housed a transit prison for inmates of the Solovki prison camp. What remains of the old buildings today are just their foundations and a ruined pier, although it still serves as a starting point for trips to Solovki.

10. Village of Kinerma

This tiny village with a population of just six people is a member of the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages of Russia and is considered one of Karelia's main attractions. Kinerma has preserved the historical appearance of an old Karelian village, with real wooden houses dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries.

Local residents have set up an exhibition for tourists that introduces everyday life in a Karelian village. And, of course, all visitors are treated to delicious local pasties, called kalitki.

Petrozavodsk

Founded in 1703, Petrozavodsk is an important centre of culture and industry in the North-West of Russia.

Petrozavodsk streets, squares and sights

Let us list some notable places in the historical center of the city.

Lenin Avenue

The main street of the city is Lenin Avenue, until 1918 – Borodinskaya street. The avenue stretches from the railway station to Onega Lake embankment. It contains residential and administrative buildings, restaurants, cafes and shops. • Train Station. Build in 1955 in the style of late neoclassicism, Petrozavodsk vokzal is decorated with columns of the Corinthian order and a 17-meter spire. • Former children's clinic, also known as the “Kareldrev” trust building. The two-story wooden building was constructed in 1935 in the Northern Art Nouveau style. • Pobeda cinema, a Soviet classicism building of 1950. • Trust "Karelles". A wooden building from the late 20s in the Art Nouveau style. • Hotel "Severnaya". Built in 1939 in the spirit of constructivism, it was heavily damaged during the Second World War. Restored in 1948 in the traditions of neoclassicism. • Catholic church (1904).

Lenin (Round) Square

Constructed in 1775 in the tradition of Russian classicism, buildings on the Round Square are the oldest ones in the city: • “Governor's House”, now the National Museum. At various times, governors and vice-governors of the Olonets province lived and worked there. • Government building, now the Ministry of Culture. Public offices, the district court, and the apartment of the governor general were located here. The bronze lions at the entrance were cast at the Alexander Factory in 1858 in honour of the arrival of Emperor Alexander II. • Lenin monument. Erected in 1933 on the site of the monument to Peter I, the granite statue of the Soviet leader is dressed in a winter coat and holds a winter hat in his hand. • Memorial complex “Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with the Eternal Flame”. Made of Shoksha red quartzite and gabbro-diabase, opened in 1969.

Karl Marx Avenue and Kirov (Cathedral) Square

Going down from Kirov Square to Lake Onega, one will found the monument to Peter the Great. Dedicated to the bicentenary of the Emperor’s birth, it was erected in 1873 on Round Square, where Lenin now stands. On the granite embankment of Lake Onega one can find gifts from the sister cities of Petrozavodsk, including unusual sculptural compositions made by modern architects from Duluth (USA), Varkaus (Finland), Umeå (Sweden), Mo and Rana (Norway), Neubrandenburg and Tübingen ( Germany), La Rochelle (France). Between the building of the Cosmos Petrozavodsk Hotel and the mouth of the Neglinka River a so-called Historical Quarter is located, where one can see several interesting wooden buildings of the 19th-20th centuries. Ducks and other waterfowl can be spotted at the mouth of the Neglinka River.

The city has a number of museums, including:

• National Museum of the Republic of Karelia; • Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Karelia; • Exhibition hall of the Kizhi Museum-Reserve; • Repository of the Kizhi Museum-Reserve; • Children's Museum Center of the Kizhi Museum-Reserve; • Art gallery "Doll's House"; • Geology of the Precambrian Museum; • Gallery of industrial history of Petrozavodsk; • Maritime Museum "Polar Odyssey"; • Shop/museum "Shungite Center".

National Museum of the Republic of Karelia

The museum is situated in the historical building in the centre of the city. Its exhibitions are devoted to nature, archaeology, history, folklore and ethnography of Karelia. Address: Lenin Square, 1. Working hours (subject to change): from Tuesday till Sunday 10:00-18:00. Closed – Monday.

Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Karelia

The museum's exhibition includes works of Russian art of the 18th - early 20th centuries, decorative and applied arts, domestic art of the 20th century, ancient Russian art and art of Karelia of the 20th century. Among the exhibits, there are paintings by famous Russian artists, including I. Shishkin, I. Levitan, I. Aivazovsky and V. Polenov. The latter graduated from the Olonets Boys’ Gymnasium in 1863, located in this very building. There is a special exhibit displaying the art of Kalevala, the famous Karelian-Finnish epos. The museum hosts an important collection of Russian icons of the XV-XIX centuries. Among its highlights is the icon of Our Lady of Smolensk (early XVI century), taken from the village of Kinerma. Art gallery “Doll House”

Artist Tatyana Kalinina created this small private museum in 1999. The basis of the exhibition is a collection of designer dolls – mermaids, kikimoras, house spirits and other fairy tales’ characters. Address: La Rochelle Embankment, 13. Working hours (subject to change): from Monday till Saturday 12:00-17:00. Closed – Sunday.

The IXS Tour Jacket-ST is, as you would expect from its title, designed primarily for touring. It is made from ultra-durable 600D Polyoxford with a Solto-Tex 2 layer Z liner waterproof membrane with a mesh lining with water barrier and removable Thermo lining as well as four ventilation openings making this jacket genuinely versatile. CE approved Level 2 armour at the shoulders, elbows and back protector provide added protection and reflective detailing gives added night visibility, be safe, be seen! Adjustability throughout gives the perfect fit, and this is a longer three-quarter length jacket to prevent wind ingress and provide maximum comfort. The elbow armour is height adjustable, and a long connection zip fits matching trousers. Six outside pockets and two inside pockets in the mesh with one Napoleon pocket for ample storage. Available in a choice of colours.

“I love you, Peter’s creation” are the words a Great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin devoted to the city of St Petersburg. It is possible to refer them just as well to St Petersburg ‘s coeval: the city of Petrozavodsk.

Both Petersburg and Petrozavodsk had been created in order to enlarge the western boundaries of the newly built Empire of Tsar Peter. Peter also tried to actively develop the construction of the new Russian fleet, that‘s why he ordered building of the Petrozavodsk iron foundry, where weapons and other iron equipment were manufactured. Petrozavodsk craftsmen were also manufacturing art casting production for decoration of the Petersburg Palaces and embankments, which were made of Karelian granite.

In our days, Petrozavodsk is the capital of the Republic of Karelia (within the Russian Federation), it is also an important town for engeeniring, transport and scientific research.

It is proud of its location on the shore of the Onezhskoye Lake, the second largest in Europe. The city’s boundaries also comprise four small lakes. There are more than 50 fish species that live in these lakes (including whitefish, salmon, zander, pike, smelt, burbot, bream, perch).

Petrozavodsk ia a major scientific, cultural, educational and industrial center in the north-west Russia. It is also one of the most ecologically clean cities in Russian Federation.
