Graco FoldLite review

The Graco FoldLite is a compact travel cot that can fold in two ways and is suitable from birth to approximately three years old. Not only is the FoldLite hailed by parents for its lightweight frame, but it has also won a prestigious Mother&Baby Awards 2023 Bronze award.

Collapsing to only 26cm wide, the FoldLite travel cot has a mesh lining and two wheels for easy manoeuvrability, plus it comes with mattress included. The FoldLite comes with a Home Fold feature to help fold away quickly and clear space within seconds.

Our parent testers put the Graco Foldlite to the test and here is what they thought.

Archana said: "The product when opened out itself is fantastic - robust for a child to be in to sleep or to use as a safe space to place your child when you need your hands free. The bottom is soft too. My child enjoyed being within it and could still see me through the side panels and was happy to be sat with toys. The thing I found I didn’t get on with is the dismantling. Folding into the slide away is easy - and really handy for day to day use - that’s what I liked most about it - however folding away fully and putting in the bag is quite clunky and a chore."

Holly said: "The cot is very easy to put together. The cot unfolds and just clicks together, only two of the sides need to click together due to the way it is folded which makes putting the cot up and down much easier and quicker. We have now replaced the travel cot at my mum's house with this one as it is a lot easier and quicker for her to use."

Sarah said: "The Foldlite travel cot has been most useful to us for quick and easy use around the house with a mobile baby. It genuinely is two clicks to put up or down and the house fold setting means I can quickly pop it out from next to the sofa if I need to iron or nip to the toilet and pop it back in a few seconds so it’s not taking over the room. It would be invaluable for this in a holiday cottage which is less baby-proofed too! It seems both comfy and robust for my very mobile ten month old and he’ll play happily in it with some toys thrown in for a while. When folded down for travel it’s small and neat and doesn’t take up too much valuable boot space when you’re already contending with buggies and suitcases. The grandparents popped it up without instructions and my ten month old slept happily in it."

Georgia said: "We had used a travel cot before and it was very bulky, took up a lot of room when we were travelling and also didn’t fold as easy. Love the fact that when we tuck the FoldLite away after being used as a play pen it folds easy and can be stored - doesn’t take up too much room. The only issue I had with it was once wrapping the mattress around the base you do have to pull it quite tightly to then fit it in the bag."

Catrina said: "I cannot really think of anything that I would change. The only thing I can think of would be to have a little changing mat for the top of it that you can add on. I know that this would then effect the overall weight of the travel cot though so I cannot decide whether it’s a good idea or not. Really good without it."

Joanna said: "I think the one thing that I would change about the product would be to have alternating leg lengths or height so it could be used raised from the floor as well as on the floor. I feel like this would be easier for things like naps and transporting baby in and out of it. It has quite a large high sides so it can be difficult to reach within, especially if you have a bad back."

The Donkey. A noble steed who, for thousands of years, has enabled farmers to power their machinery has evolved. It can now commonly be seen unloading cars, carrying suitcases and backpacks at airports up and down the country. That’s correct, the donkey evolved into the modern day Dad.

Jokes aside, holidaying with kids can be uber stressful and for years brands have tried to invent new ways to make proceedings less taxing. But many have failed. One element that always seems to fail parents in this area is the lack of practicality. Items are always too big, too heavy or a flash in the pan phenomenon that keeps children occupied and happy for a day or two. What parents really need are solutions to actual everyday problems that they face on holiday. Introducing the Graco Foldlite Travel Cot .

Sleeping Arrangements on Holiday

One thing I have always found fairly stressful is rented sleeping arrangements for your babies/toddlers. Everytime you go on holiday, there’s always likely to be an issue with where your children are to sleep. Here’s a quick round up of some holidaying options, and the usual issues that are raised…

• Hotel: The cots that you rent are often old, meaning the mattresses are lumpy and lead to a broken night’s sleep for yourself and your partner as, by 3am, your little one has already joined you in the bed, giving you even less room in what the hotel claimed to be a king size bed…
• Caravan holiday: There’s no room for an alternative and you co-sleep , again presenting its usual problems. 
• Camping: There’s two options, you either co-sleep with your toddler, leading to multiple kicks in the face throughout the night and an uncomfortable morning of lying still, to ensure you don’t wake them up OR you have to sacrifice a serious amount of space in the car to make room for a travel cot. 

Graco FoldLite Travel Cot

However, Graco have recently launched a new travel cot that isn’t as heavy as a powerlifter’s warm-up routine, nor as large as your wife’s ‘overnight stay’ bag. The Foldlite travel cot is, as you’d imagine, light, compact, durable and multi-functional. 

The Foldlite travel cot fits so neatly into the boot of your car, you don’t have to sacrifice the swing-ball set when you’re going on a staycation, which is a bonus. It is also much lighter than a traditional travel cot, ensuring that when you’re at the airport, you don’t feel like a Blackpudlian donkey. 

As well as being compact when folded, it’s also really tidy when it’s fully put together (which takes all of 5 seconds) meaning that even if you are going on, say, a caravan weekend, you can go there knowing that it will easily fit in the notoriously ‘cosy’ bedrooms. 

The travel cot isn’t just great for sleeping, though. We’ve often found that when you’re holidaying with babies who are at the dreaded crawling stage, it also acts as a playpen. This means you can carry on with your set-up, unpacking and more, knowing that your toddler won’t be on the other side of the field or hotel after you have unloaded your bags. 

A real bugbear of mine for years has been the practicality of products. However Graco have clearly done their research whilst developing the Foldlite Travel Cot and, in our opinion, they’ve absolutely nailed it.

So it’s a no-brainer that the Graco Foldlite deserves the Dadsnet Approved badge!

How do you clean FoldLite LX? Clean the travel cot with household soap and warm water and make sure to air dry. The carry bag can be machine-washed in cold water and air-dried.

What is the max weight for the playpen? FoldLite LX can be used from birth up to 15kg, approximately 3 years of age.

Does FoldLite LX come with a mattress? FoldLite LX includes the mattress designed for use with the travel cot. Never add a mattress, pillow, comforter or padding. Only use the mattress pad provided by Graco®.

From time to time check your travel cot for worn parts, torn material or stitching. Replace or repair parts as needed. If damage is found, contact Graco Customer Service for advice on replacement or repair.

How to get to Suzdal from Moscow

If you are ever in Moscow, you should look at The Golden Ring , a ring of towns and cities north east of Moscow which played an important part in the formation of Russia and the Russian Orthodox Church. The towns themselves are almost like museums and none more so than the jewel of the Golden Ring, Suzdal . You have to visit this town if you are in Moscow and I will tell you exactly how to get to Suzdal from Moscow.

You can do this in a return day trip to Moscow, just, but I recommend staying the night in Suzdal. That will give you the afternoon on the 1st day and the morning and early afternoon on the 2nd day to explore which should be enough time. You can get a bus from Moscow to Suzdal. However, there is only one bus a day and it is not very comfortable. A better option is to get a train to the nearby city of Vladimir and from there get a bus to Suzdal. There are multiple trains every day from Moscow and buses are almost every 30 minutes so you will not have to wait long in Vladimir.

Getting the train to Vladimir

Go to the state run website for Russian railways . In the departure station, click (or type) ‘MOSKVA’, in the arrival station type ‘VLADIMIR”, select your departure date (and return if you will go back to Moscow the next day) and click on the buy ticket button. You will have multiple trains to choose from. The fastest trains do the journey in about 1 hour 45 minutes. Be sure to check which of the Moscow train stations your train will depart from. More than likely this will be Mockva Kurskaia. Whichever station it is, you can get there very easily by using the metro .

Getting Bus from Vladimir to Suzdal

When you arrive at the train station, follow everyone else that is leaving the train station. When you get outside, if you look across the street, you will see the bus station. The facilities in the bus and train station are pretty basic. the train station is a little better so if you want a coffee or something to eat, I would get it there.

In the bus station go to the ticket office and get a single ticket to Suzdal. Something like “odin billet Suzdal” should be enough to be understood. The ticket costs 98.50 rubles so its easier to have a 100 ruble note to get change from.

My ticket to Suzdal is bus number 159, platform 10 at 12:00 and seat number 6.

When you have your ticket, go outside to the platform listed on the ticket and wait for the bus. Simple really!

Staying the night in Suzdal

There are a lot of accommodation options available in Suzdal. The place i stayed is Suzdal Hotel . It is actually a house and they have a few rooms available. The breakfast that is included is very very good. Trust me on this. They will even collect you from the bus station in Suzdal and bring you back the next day.

Returning to Vladimir (and Moscow)

To return to Vladimir, just repeat these steps in the opposite direction – return to the bus station in Suzdal, buy a ticket to Vladimir and continue your onward journey in Russia. Simples! 😉

I went to Suzdal over 13years ago for Christmas, I was on an on the go tour and they organised the train for us which was a very interesting journey. I would love to go back and explore longer. I am definitely impressed that you have done it on your own and it sounds like you had a bit of an adventure :).

Hey Lydia, you certainly can! If you go early enough in the day to Vladimir, you can probably get 6-7 hours in Suzdal.

I think it is the sort of place you go to get away from the craziness of big cities and have some slower, quiet time. If my memory is correct, they also have a cucumber festival once a year every July. Apparently the cucumbers of the area are very good!
