EA SPORTS™ PGA TOUR™ Courses Overview

Read on for a deep dive into courses in ea sports pga tour..

EA SPORTS PGA TOUR will have 28 real-life and 2 fantasy courses for a total of 30 beautiful golf courses at launch. And on each of these courses comes a variety of gameplay and visual features that result in 30 unique experiences to play. Check out the Course Deep Dive below and read on to learn more.

State-of-the-art Technology Supports Course Mapping for Accurate Course Visuals

Each course is designed in stunning quality with Frostbite, so you can immerse yourself in golf’s finer details more than ever before. And to achieve the most true to life course visuals we meticulously mapped Augusta National, the home of the Masters, and other courses, with state-of-the-art technologies like photogrammetry scanning, drone technology, and survey-grade GPS.

We also led custom LiDAR helicopter flights over each course in the game, scanning at lower altitude with slower speeds to achieve more data-point-density and a higher level of realism than scans from publicly available sources. Using these technologies, which are actually designed to discover underground gold mines and oil reserves, we achieved pin-point accuracy down to the blade of grass for many courses in-game. Each course’s scan has been transferred into EA SPORTS PGA TOUR to be developed and tuned for the most accurate depiction of them possible.

And we didn’t just scan the greens, the terrain map also created precise renderings of clubhouses, vegetation, bridges, tee markers, rock formations, water, and more on-course elements.

To achieve the highest granularity possible, we also took the time to visit these prestigious courses ourselves to fully understand how the course plays in real life. From walking the holes to surveying course superintendents, the unique conditions at each golf course were mapped and recorded in these in-person visits over the years.

We were able to even record the distinct cuts of grass and how the ball behaves on them along with upcoming changes they’re making for future seasons to capture a full picture of these courses and how each of them play now and in the future.

So whether it’s The Old Course at St. Andrews Links or The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, you’ll be able to see and feel the distinct differences of playing on these courses just like you would if you were there in real life.

Course Visuals Enhanced by Time of Day Features

Inspired by classic American landscape artists, we set out to create the most beautiful courses in-game with lighting that changes the look of a course based on the time of day. The goal was to create discreet times of day that showed off each course or hole in its absolute best light.

In game, we represent those as 3 different “tee” times, morning, mid day and late afternoon, across 4 unique “Biomes”. Each of the 4 biomes , Humid subtropical, Mediterranean, Oceanic and Desert, have varying lighting conditions, levels of contrast, clouds and atmospheric haze etc, to give each course a unique look based on its location and the time of day that you are playing.

Course Dynamics Support True-To-Life Ball Dribbling and Behavior

But stunning visuals are only one part of making a course feel like it does in real life. To make each course not only appear but feel accurate to real life, Pure Strike gameplay’s Course Dynamics impact the way the ball behaves on every green in the game.

Each course is tuned to behave just the way it does in real life which impacts the height of a ball’s bounce, the speed of its roll, the impact on ball spin, and the launch of the ball which vary from course to course.

Each course has its own subtleties including everything from the speed and firmness of the fairway to the firmness and length of the first cut. The ball reacts to these subtleties to result in a variety of ball behaviors that change on each course. So you’ll see the ball roll differently on the firm and fast fairways at The Old Course at St Andrews Links in comparison to those of Harbour Town.

The ball will behave differently across different terrains like pine straw, firm fairway, soft fairways and more. So you can expect to see the ball bounce differently on softer terrains in comparison to hard ones, just like you’d see in real life.

But you’ll also be able to feel how your ball behaves differently in the air as well since ball behavior and course dynamics are also impacted by altitude so courses above sea-level will see balls go further than those on the coast.

The Tee is Yours on 30 Prestigious Courses

From ball behavior on each course to life-like visuals, the Tee is Yours at these 30 prestigious courses listed below.

Augusta National The Old Course at St Andrews Links Pebble Beach The Country Club Southern Hills TPC Sawgrass East Lake Wilmington Country Club TPC Boston TPC Southwind TPC Scottsdale Whistling Straits PGA WEST Quail Hollow Torrey Pines The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort Chambers Bay Banff Springs Wolf Creek Bay Hill Liberty National Harbour Town The Riviera Country Club Tara Iti Top of the Rock Bandon Dunes Evian Resort Teeth of the Dog Wetlands (fantasy course) Lighthouse Pointe (fantasy course)

And there are more courses waiting for you after launch with the 2023 major courses including Oak Hill, The Los Angeles Country Club, Royal Liverpool as well as Olympia Fields as a part of the FedExCup series and Marco Simone for the Ryder Cup releasing in the future.

  • On FIFA 08 , Ronaldinho (this time, his sleeves are longer) appears from the left while dribbling a ball, before flicking it above him.
  • On NHL 08 , Eric Staal skates past us from the right.

  • On NHL 09 , Dion Phaneuf skates in from right and shoots a puck directly at the screen.
  • On Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 , the logo, instead of moving up, turns into a golf ball, which promptly gets hit by an off-screen Tiger Woods, transitioning to the title screen.
  • On NCAA Basketball 09 , the background turns blue with laurel branches appearing. Kevin Love then comes in from the right dribbling a ball and slam dunks it.
  • On NASCAR 09 , the logo turns dark instead of moving up. Many small lights illuminate the logo, before proceeding to the game's intro.
  • On Fight Night Round 4 , Mike Tyson appears and punches the screen.
  • On Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 , instead of moving up, the logo flashes into the game's intro.

Audio: Three whooshes, followed by a crowd cheering, as well as the sounds of the athletes.

Availability: Seen on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of various EA Sports titles, starting with the 07 titles. It is only available when in widescreen. It was last seen on NCAA Football 13 .

23rd Logo (August 28-September 25, 2012)

Visuals: In a dark sports stadium, the EA Sports logo rotates into the center while red lights flash in the background. Then it flashes, segueing into the game's opening movie.

Variants: The background changes depending on the game; Madden NFL 13 takes place in a football field, FIFA 13 takes place in a soccer pitch, and NHL 13 takes place in an ice rink.

Audio: The 1999 recording of "It's in the game" voiceover.

Availability: Seen on FIFA 13 , NHL 13 and Madden NFL 13 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

24th Logo (July 9, 2013-March 15, 2016)

Variant: The background changes depending on the game.

Audio: A whoosh sound, accompanied by the 1999 recording of "It's in the game" voiceover.

Availability: Seen on PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U titles, like NHL 14 , Madden NFL 25 and FIFA 14 .

25th Logo (August 23, 2016-September 28, 2018)

Visuals: The EA Sports logo draws in over a white background, as parallelograms move. The full EA Sports logo appears, and then it transitions to the game's intro.

Audio: The 1999 recording of "It's in the game" voiceover, along with whooshing sounds.

Availability: Seen on many EA Sports games from the period, like FIFA 17 and NHL 17 .

Visuals: Over a colored background, the logo starts with parallelograms zooming out that reveal the EA Sports logo on a spotlight background. Then it transitions to the game's intro.

Technique: 2D animation by Tobias Kruz.

Availability: Seen on FIFA 20 , Madden NFL 20 and NHL 20 .

27th Logo (August 14, 2020-)

ea sports pga tour logo

Visuals: As the "camera" flies away from a red , white, blue , and black tunnel background, the screen passes through various sport-related objects (a soccer ball, a football helmet, a basketball, a soccer cleat, boxing gloves, a golf ball, a hockey mask, a football, a hockey club, a checkered flag, and a racing tire), before the camera pans out to reveal that it's inside a white EA Sports logo against a white background. After a few seconds, the stripes zoom back in, transitioning to the game's intro or black.

Early Variant: Before EA purchased Codemasters in 2021, the checkered flag and racing tire weren't present. Furthermore, the stripes use different colors based on the cover visuals (like UFC 4 and Madden NFL 21 for example).

Variant: On EA Sports FC 24 , a circle is zooming out which fades to the inverted print EA Sports logo (as shown on the cover art for the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 versions of EA Sports games since 2020), which then slides to the letters "FC" and the number "24", which creates the game's logo, then zooming out to the around the top middle before proceeding to the title screen.

Audio: A long whoosh, followed by the 1999 recording of the "It's in the game" voiceover, with drums beating in time to the words. This theme is done by The Elements Music.

Audio Variant: On Madden NFL 23 , John Madden's voiceover from the SNES version of Madden NFL 96 is used, while the second drum beat is removed. This was possibly done to honor Madden, who passed away on December 28, 2021.

Availability: Seen on EA Sports titles since 2020.

EA Sports PGA Tour’s best mode pulled me back into my golfing game obsession

It’s the best practice mode before taking on 18-hole rounds with new surface physics and shots

Share All sharing options for: EA Sports PGA Tour’s best mode pulled me back into my golfing game obsession

It’s been a decade since Augusta National Golf Course was in a video game, and eight years since we saw St. Andrews on a console. Just going back to these places will be enough for most fans interested in EA Sports PGA Tour — especially following Jon Rahm’s win at the Masters Tournament this past weekend. But the game, now on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, does play a little differently. So they should factor in some time to get familiar before gorging on its buffet of 30 bucket list destinations.

The best way to do so? Honestly, it’s the Challenges mode. Golf doesn’t really need to be reduced to bite-size challenges for video games — it is bite-size challenges, 18 of them making up a round. But the Challenges mode quickly became EA Sports PGA Tour ’s signature feature for me, at least in the first week, for how it familiarized me with the tasks these courses will expect later in my (very deep) career mode. I wasn’t prepared to appreciate or enjoy this live-service vehicle as much as I did, but absent a practice facility or tutorial in the video game, I absolutely depended on it to, as they say, get back in the swing of things.

Challenges takes players to one of the game’s 30 courses and gives them three tasks to complete, replicating some performance from real life — for example, Lexi Thompson at the 2019 LPGA Championship or Francesco Molinari making recovery after recovery at the Masters the same year. Each challenge awards three stars, those stars award XP and Reward Points, and those two collectively progress your created golfer or give them cool new skills and cosmetics. (Although the latter are unlocked through a prominent in-game store menu, it’s important to note that nothing affecting a created golfer’s play or improving their game can be bought for a real-money equivalent. That’s all for cosmetics.)

 alt=

You don’t have to complete all three obligations of a challenge in the same playthrough, either; this is what I meant about Challenges supporting repeated attempts. If one challenge is, say, to make green-in-regulation on all four holes (that is, landing on the green in par minus two strokes) and make birdie on two of them, you can focus on sticking the greens in one playthrough and getting the birdies in another.

This isn’t to suggest that the challenges aren’t demanding. It took me a couple of hours to clean up the Thursday and Friday moments from this year’s Masters. Some of that was my unfamiliarity with this game’s controls after eight years since the last EA Sports golf game. But some of it, also, was because the surfaces and ball lies are truer to life and therefore more difficult to play — which should be the point of a simulation, after all.

The green of No. 15 at Augusta National — sorry to keep referring back to this course, but I have a feeling a lot of people are playing it right now — is a notorious real-life challenge for tour pros. It’s definitely in range for a chance at an eagle. In previous games, I never had to worry about overshooting this green or rolling my recovery long all the way into the water hazard. Now I do, which makes the decision to lay up at 15, and take a shorter approach to the green, a lot more meaningful. Now I know a little more of what was going through Chip Beck’s mind at the 1993 Masters.

EA Sports PGA Tour is as lavishly illustrated as ever; it’s the strongest trait so far of a golf simulation that will take a lot of playing and replaying to truly understand. The best way to see the 30 courses on the disc are, again, in the bite-size play offered by the Challenges mode. For some courses, like Pebble Beach, or Augusta, or TPC Sawgrass, I have a thing about waiting to play my first full round there until it’s an event on my created player’s career calendar. Of course, I want them to go into that prepared, and not embarrass themselves, so these warmups are a nice way to keep that personal tradition intact while still bringing a talented virtual golfer to the tee.

The features serving that golfer are a little uneven. While there are plenty of cosmetics and unlockables (and the promise of more) to kit them out, the character creator itself is very rigid. Different genders and many ethnicities are represented, but don’t expect them to look much like you, as the faces come from stock templates. This has been a long-running weakness of EA Sports titles, especially compared to their contemporaries. In Career, however, there is the chance to play in AI pairings, which, while a little time consuming, is there for those who favor full-fat, immersive sports experiences (like me). And for those who truly want to sink into an immersive career, you can start all the way back as an amateur — including in the newly created (2019) Augusta National Women’s Amateur. These are experiences I look forward to recreating over the next several dozen hours (if not 100) that I can devote to the game.

For many, the selling point of EA Sports PGA Tour is simply the ability to play these courses in a video game; it sounds like a low standard, but rendering them faithfully takes a ton of effort, and EA Sports’ developers still exceeded my expectations. The broadcast presentation supporting these visits is crisp and attentive, feathering in little touches like the walk over the Sarazen Bridge at that No. 15 hole now giving me so much trouble. Returning players and new ones alike should expect to put in plenty of time working on their game, however, before they’re confident taking on the likes of Pebble Beach or Whistling Straits. But that’s an essential part of the challenge, and appeal, of golf.

Are The Majors in PGA Tour 2K23?

Image of Colin Mieczkowski

One of the things that makes golf so great is all of the different tournaments fans can enjoy while watching the players battle it out on beautiful, historic golf courses. Each tournament is unique and has their own little rituals of sorts or iconic course landmarks like the Arnold Palmer statue at Bay Hill or the old silos at TPC Southwind.

You can enjoy many of the PGA Tour’s best tournaments in PGA Tour 2K23 as you make a run for the FedEx Cup at East Lake in the MyCareer mode. However, speaking of traditions, many fans every excitedly tune in to watch golf’s four major championships, including casual golf fans who don’t follow the sport regularly.

And so, if you haven’t played PGA Tour 2K23 yet, you may be wondering: are any of the majors in the game? The answer to this is no due to EA Sports having exclusive rights to all four tournaments, including The Masters.

PGA Tour 2K23 PlayStation Plus

PGA Tour 2K23 instead offers its own majors starting with the Legends Tournament (Masters), followed by the Northwest Open (US Open), HB Championship (PGA Championship), and the Royal Championship (The Open). Each event offers its own fictional course.

Despite not having the official majors, it’s good to know that HB Studios did what they could to try to bring the huge tournament experience to the career mode. Also, the game itself is still a lot of fun, even with no majors. The course creator returns, meaning that there are hundreds of incredible courses to play.

As long as EA Sports still has the majors (also a good game in its own right, by the way), we likely won’t see these iconic events in MyCareer any time soon. But, who knows, things can eventually change. But, for now, you can win The Legends and visualize as if you won The Masters.

SEC athletic director expects NCAA to allow sponsor logos on fields to help pay for athlete revenue sharing

Florida athletic director scott stricklin says the ncaa is set to relax rules around corporate sponsors.

ncaa-logo.jpg

Destin, Fla. -- With expenses going up following the agreed upon $2.8 billion House v. NCAA lawsuit settlement, it's only natural for schools to look for new revenue opportunities to meet the rising costs.

One potential source that could be available soon is field/court naming rights and sponsored jersey patches, according to one Southeastern Conference athletic director.

"I believe the NCAA is going to allow us to put a sponsored logo on the field during the regular season," Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin said. "That's an obvious revenue stream we have not had in the past. Pro sports are putting patches on jerseys. That doesn't seem like something that's crazy for us to consider."

The NCAA heavily restricts the use of commercial logos on fields, but a June 6 NCAA committee meeting "could change some of those restrictions,"  USA Today reports .

Stricklin also pointed to fantasy sports as a huge driver of interest for professional sports. He believes college sports should consider fantasy sports licensed with player names in which players and schools each receive a cut.

Athletic departments are grappling with an expected $22 million annual revenue share cost -- likely to go into effect in August 2025 -- as part of the House settlement terms. In the NBA, a sponsored jersey patch alone can be worth tens of millions annually.

Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne said Wednesday at the SEC's annual spring meetings that schools will "have to be open-minded" about new revenue possibilities but didn't foresee sponsored jersey patches coming to the football program's iconic crimson jerseys anytime soon.

"We're pretty traditional," Byrne said. "It's cool that Alabama doesn't change their jerseys. We're unique in that way now. You never say never but we're fairly conservative when it comes to how we do anything like that."
