Went on the two hour cruise yesterday at 6pm, and we all had a great time, especially the kids. The crew had the kids and adults laughing the entire time. I wanted to video the whole trip there were so many funny antics. My kids were asking today if we could go again. The weather for the 6pm sailing was great for July since it had rained earlier in the day and therefore not too hot.

Great hosts and a wonderful family atmosphere for my kids and grandkids. I highly recommend this cruise for a fun sunset evening. Wish more companies were as full of integrity as this one.

Join our dolphin research team and get to know the local dolphins on our Marco Island dolphin cruise – both fun and educational! Launched February 1, 2006, the 10,000 Islands Dolphin Project is a long-term study of the abundance, distribution, movement, association patterns, and behavior of bottlenose dolphins of Southwest Florida. Located on Marco Island with close proximity to Naples and the Everglades, we offer a one of a kind tour!

The Project is the only on-going study of wild dolphins in SW Florida and the only one in the United States that engages and is supported by the general public.

Using ‘photo-identification,’ our dolphins are recognized by their dorsal fins which act as their ‘fingerprints.’

You have the opportunity to participate in locating, counting, and confirming of individual dolphin sightings on our exciting Marco Island eco-tour. For more about the study, visit our dolphin survey results.

May 2024 We live on Marco and have never been on the Dolphin Explorer and i wanted to go for Mother's Day. It was simply AMAZING. Bob was so informative, and we were so happy that we got to see so many dolphins. Its like they know Bob because they are so happy to see the boat :). We also got to see several groups of stingrays as well as some manatees from the distance. I will encourage my friends and family to do when visiting. Thanks again for such a great time Bob and Captain Ed.

May 2024 This is the only dolphin tour you should take. These guys are so passionate about the dolphin community and take the time to show you all of the named dolphins that they have identified by the markings on their fins. They have a binder with pictures of each and when they were born and their offspring. It’s educational and entertaining at the same time. Ask as many questions as you can, they love it. We saw almost 30 dolphins and have great pictures from our tour. Plus you get 1/2 hr of exploring for shells, we went to Tigertail. They also take a picture of your group and give you a print at the end. Thank you for a wonderful trip!

May 2024 This was great!!! Smooth boat ride, plenty of time to view the dolphins, extremely knowledgable staff, and very patient. The dolphins were jumping and playing right next to the boat. Worth every penny!! Bathroom on boat, shade, and complimentary waters. They also have the best gift shop to get clothes, ice cream, hats, etc….

MAY 2024 Absolutely the best experience for my family and I! We saw above average dolphins yesterday! At 18 dolphins! We saw moms with calf’s, we saw 4 to five teen dolphins playing, we saw a dolphin ride our boats wave, we saw plenty of different animals! And when you stop at the beach you get a complimentary picture printed for you and your family! Absolutely will be coming back when we can! For now we can watch from a far on their social media accounts where they have incredible pictures! The instructors/guides were absolutely amazing and knowledgeable on everything dolphin! Our daughter had a blast and got a dolphin patch at the end! 10/10 must do if you go to Marco island!

April 2024 We had a group of 9 and went in the afternoon. Our hosts were not only funny and entertaining, but we also had a great educational experience. We saw several dozen of local dolphins. Bob, James, and Jen were fantastic! Highly recommended.

April 2024 This tour more than exceeded our expectations from start to finish. Very knowledgeable dolphin scientists on board sharing a wealth of information. Dolphins were treated respectfully, we were there to watch them in their natural habitat and did so without interfering in any way. I appreciated that bc we have been on tours where the anals have been chased and lured with food and I don't like that. Lots of little touches from the company in addition to the multiple dolphin encounters and knowledge shared. Well worth the trip!

April 2024 I've been on the Dolphin Explorer 7 times now and hope to go 27 more times. I love to take visitors on it because they get to see Marco from the water, get out on the beach, and spend 3 hours with a big grin on their faces from seeing so many dolphins! Bob McConville is just GREAT at what he does---and it's clear he loves his dolphins.

Apr 2024 My wife and I went on the Dolphin Explorer Tour and had a wonderful time! It was so educational to listen to Bob and Captain Eddy talk about the dolphins that they have identified and tracked from one generation of dolphins to another! We learned things about dolphins that we have never heard before and left the tour so enlightened! We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who wants to learn more about dolphins from people who really have a passion and knowledge of dolphins!

Amazing Tour

Highly recommend! Spotted lots of dolphins, toured Egmont Key, and stopped at a great sandbar. Captain Ben was very knowledgeable about Anna Maria Island as well as the history of Egmont Key. We had a such a great time! Will do again.

Exceptional Tour

Chad was a wonderful Captain and guide! We've been on dolphin cruises before, but this was an exceptional trip. We saw a mother and baby dolphin play in our wake!! So awesome. We also saw a manatee! Just wonderful. We loved it!

Great Boat Rental

Group Packages & Private Tours

Group rates are available for schools, church groups, large family reunions and companies.

Cruises are 1½ to 2 hours long. The tour encompasses 3 distinct experiences starting with a narrated cruise up the Intracoastal waterway. Then picking up speed and passing several uninhabited islands as well as the jetty heading out into the ocean. The second part of the tour is heading into the ocean to find and view the dolphins and the third part is picking up speed to view our beautiful coastline.

This is a wet ride so dress accordingly. There is a dry box on board for valuables. We do suggest a bag or case to keep cameras and phones dry so you may take pictures. Sun glasses and sunscreen are also recommended for this tour.

If you want SEATING UNDER THE CANOPY please arrive early because boarding is done by group #.  Group #1 will board first and will include several parties who arrive the earliest.  All passengers must check in and get a boarding pass before boarding. The boat departs promptly at scheduled times so please allow time to park, check-in, etc.

These cruises are not handicap approved by the coastguard.  Tickets are non refundable!

Are The Boats Different?

No, they do the same cruise.  They are both narrated by an experienced crew.  Both boats have a canopy covering about 8 rows of seating. Both hold 141 passengers.

How Long Are The Cruises?

They are 1 ½ – 2 hours long.

Are The Boats At The Same Location?

No, but they are close.  The boats are a couple of blocks away from each other.

Do You Need To Print Anything?

No, when you make a reservation online, your confirmation, instructions & directions will be emailed to you.  Just give your last name when checking-in for your boarding pass.

Are There Bathrooms?

Yes, there are restroom facilities at each location prior to boarding. The restrooms on board are marine toilet facilities and are for emergency use only.

Do You Get Wet?

Yes, it can be a wet ride so dress accordingly. Bathing suits with covers, towels, whatever you are comfortable with.

Do You Cruise In The Rain?

Yes, the cruise operates in light rain.  The Captain may cancel if weather becomes stormy. (Thunder & Lightening)

What Can I Bring?

You may bring food and drink in a  small (6 pack) soft sided cooler.  STROLLERS & CAR SEATS are NOT allowed on board.

Are There Life Jackets?

Yes, under the seats for all passengers. Also CHILDREN’S life jackets are available.

Are The Boats Handicap Accessible?

No, the boats are not handicap accessible.  Wheelchairs & walkers can go as far as the stairs to the boat.  They are not allowed on board for safety reasons.  There are about 4-5 steps (handrails) up to the boat and then a short distance to a seat.  The crew will assist with boarding.  These cruises are not handicap approved by the coastguard.

Join LeBarge and a Sarasota Bay Explorers-trained marine biologist on this two-hour cruise and learn about the lifestyle and behavior of our local population of over 160 bottlenose dolphins, as well as manatees (in season). The guide explains their hunting techniques, physical adaptations, and social hierarchy, plus you learn of the effects brought on by humankind and what is being done to protect this magnificent mammal.

Sarasota Bay is the ideal location to observe these intelligent marine mammals. All of our marine biologists are guides with our sister company, Sarasota Bay Explorers, located at Mote Marine Laboratory, to ensure that you receive the latest, most accurate information regarding these marine mammals.

We must meet a minimum passenger count to run the cruise. Reservations are highly recommended. We take reservations for regularly scheduled cruises no more than 3 weeks in advance. All scheduled cruises are subject to change.

Know Before You Go

• Bayfront parking lots and garages are owned, operated, and monitored by the City of Sarasota. Please pay attention to all posted signs and ordinances and allow time for parking upon arrival.
• Times to remember: CHECK-IN begins 1 hour prior to departure time and BOARDING begins 30 minutes prior to departure.
• To ensure we leave on time and keep on schedule all passengers must be on board 5 minutes prior to scheduled departure time OR YOU WILL MISS THE BOAT.
• Please be advised that our boarding procedures have changed. We board by order of check-in time and will call your name when it is your turn to board. If you have multiple parties arriving separately, and would like to board consecutively, please take this into account and check in at the same time.
