Summer 2022 Disney Cruise Line Itineraries

disney cruise norwegian fjords 2022

Disney Cruise Line has released itineraries through Summer 2022! There are sailings to great new destinations and popular ports of call in the Greek Isles, Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Alaska, and the Caribbean. In this post, we’ll take a look at the awesome options, followed by commentary on pricing, our recommended destinations, and why we’ll be booking on opening day instead of waiting for a deal.

Note that “opening day” booking for the general public will begin on March 25, 2021. Prior to that, there will be a staggered advance booking period beginning next Monday. Here’s the eligibility timeline:

  • March 22, 2021 — Platinum Castaway Club Members, Golden Oak Club Residents
  • March 23, 2021 — Gold Castaway Club Members
  • March 24, 2021 — Silver Castaway Club Members, Disney Vacation Club Members, Adventures by Disney Insiders
  • March 25, 2021 – All Guests

If you’re an existing member, Disney Cruise Line recommends that you log in to your account now to verify your Castaway Club status, so you’ll be all set to book on your designated date. You can also call (866) 784-1592 starting at 8:00 AM Eastern Time, or contact your travel agent.

Another thing to note is that the Disney Wish is scheduled to sail its maiden voyage in Summer 2022. However, it’s not included in this itinerary release. Disney Cruise Line promises bookings and info for the Wish will be released at a later date.

By process of elimination, we’re pretty confident it’ll be taking over the shorter Bahamas cruises out of Port Canaveral. On the one hand, we really want to experience the Disney Wish. On the other hand, I’ve had my fill of those itineraries for a while. Back to the first hand, we really do miss Castaway Cay, and getting back there plus a new ship will probably win out.

disney cruise norwegian fjords 2022

Summer 2022 will bring a new collection of Disney Cruise Line destinations as part of the Disney Magic’s grand tour of Europe. This will begin with sailings through the Greek Isles and Mediterranean before heading to Northern Europe for cruises to the Baltic, British Isles, Iceland, and the Norwegian Fjords. Five new ports of call in Europe include Chania, Greece; Porto, Portugal; Riga, Latvia; Maloy, Norway; and Nynashamn, Sweden, which is near Stockholm.

From Rome, cruises to Greece will whisk families to the beautiful landscapes and archeological wonders of Piraeus, the gateway to Athens, and to the spectacular Greek islands of Santorini and Mykonos. One 9-night sailing will mark Disney Cruise Line’s first call to Chania, Greece on the island of Crete, known for its charming harbor.

disney cruise norwegian fjords 2022

Mediterranean voyages from Barcelona, Spain, will visit a mix of must-see locales including Rome and Naples, plus French Riviera coastal towns like Villefranche (pictured above) and Cannes. During a 7-night cruise from Barcelona to Dover, England, Disney Cruise Line will make its first-ever visit to Porto, Portugal, a coastal city with old-world charm.

Additional new ports of call in northern Europe include Riga, the capital of Latvia and the largest metropolis in the Baltics; Nynashamn, Sweden, a beautiful seaside town just outside Stockholm; and Maloy, Norway, a charming coastal village bordered by silver-sand beaches and historic lighthouses.

disney cruise norwegian fjords 2022

For the first time ever, families can sail out of Miami during the summer season. Every cruise from Miami in the summer of 2022 features a stop at Castaway Cay. The June 7 voyage will be the Disney Dream’s inaugural cruise from Miami–the ship has previously only home ported in Port Canaveral.

In addition to visiting Castaway Cay, 3-4 night cruises from Miami will call on Nassau, Bahamas, while 5-night cruises include a stop at either Grand Cayman or Cozumel, Mexico. One special five-night sailing features two stops at Castaway Cay, along with a call on Nassau.

disney cruise norwegian fjords 2022

Itineraries to the Caribbean and Bahamas continue aboard the Disney Fantasy from Port Canaveral. Each Disney Fantasy voyage features a visit to Castaway Cay. This ship will embark on an assortment of itineraries to the eastern and western Caribbean throughout the summer of 2022, including 7-night voyages, a special 5-night sailing, and an extended 9-night cruise.

The 9-night Disney Fantasy cruise features a first-time call on Roseau, Dominica, an eastern Caribbean destination filled with natural hot springs, waterfalls, and tropical rainforests. This mountainous island is bordered by pristine beaches and crystal clear water.

disney cruise norwegian fjords 2022

The Disney Wonder will return to Alaska for the 2022 summer season to explore the region’s breathtaking natural vistas, glaciers, and wildlife. These 7-night sailings depart from Vancouver, Canada and most will visit Dawes Glacier, Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan. Two of the cruises will call on Icy Strait Point in place of Skagway.

If you’re looking for a recommendation, pretty much everyone who has done one will shower the Alaska itineraries with praise. To be sure, that’s one of the better trips we’ve taken. It’s also pretty approachable.

disney cruise norwegian fjords 2022

However, our all-time favorite cruise is the Norwegian Fjords itinerary–by a pretty wide margin. We cover the similarities and differences in Norway v. Alaska Cruises , but the bottom line is that for us, Norway was much better. Others we know who have done both give the edge to Alaska–you really can’t go wrong either way.

Although we haven’t done it as a cruise, we absolutely love the French Riviera. Villefranche-sur-Mer is one of the most gorgeous harbors I’ve ever seen, and it’s a 15 minute train ride from Monaco. Not seeing James Bond at the Monte Carlo Casino was sorta a bummer, but Monaco is otherwise a fantastic, highly-recommended place.

disney cruise norwegian fjords 2022

Much like Walt Disney World on discount drop day, Disney Cruise Line’s phones will be jammed and the online system will likely slow to a crawl at peak times. Please do not exacerbate this by calling on a day before you’re eligible; they won’t make an exception and let you cut the line. It’ll just waste everyone’s time, including yours.

It’s always a good idea to use an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner to do the work for you, but especially for opening day bookings. For one thing, using them to book your cruise is a great way to save time and stress. For another, their services are free to you since they’re paid commission by DCL on the reservation.

disney cruise norwegian fjords 2022

Every year opening day price-points make waves on social media once they’re available to book for Platinum Castaway Club members, as prices always jump. This is not really a surprise at this point, but it’s nonetheless easy to be taken aback when first seeing each year’s prices…especially if you remember what prices were 5 years ago.

With that said, it’s worth noting that opening day stateroom rates are largely on the lower end of the historical pricing spectrum. As itineraries start to book up and stateroom inventory becomes more scarce, rates invariably increase. Pricing is demand-based, with cruises in recent years rarely decreasing in price–increases are far more common.

disney cruise norwegian fjords 2022

We’ve scored some good deals on Disney Cruise Line over the years (and cover how you can do the same in our How to Save Money on Disney Cruise Line Sailings post), but have had less luck in the last couple of years. We do not expect that this trend will change with the Disney Cruise Line itineraries. If you’re planning on taking one of the popular cruises, booking early is definitely the most pragmatic route!

With the sailings out of Florida–especially Port Canaveral–the odds of prices dropping are stacked against you. There’s probably a 90% chance that opening day prices are the cheapest that those sailings will ever be.

disney cruise norwegian fjords 2022

For what it’s worth, we plan on following our own advice here. There are several itineraries we’re eyeing, but the ones that really stick out include stops in St. Petersburg. That’s a bucket list city for us, and a cruise seems like the ideal way to accomplish that. We’d also love to visit Oslo–still need to touch that viking ship to awaken the Spirit of Norway.

My suspicion is that there’s a lot of pent-up demand for cruising and, unlike theme parks, insufficient stateroom inventory to absorb all of that. There are a lot of avid cruisers, and most will have gone nearly 2 years without sailing once cruising finally resumes. On top of that, a lot of people are going to be getting stimulus checks and/or have unspent vacation budgets from the last year that they won’t mind burning on cruise reservations next week.

disney cruise norwegian fjords 2022

Being frugal by nature, I’ll still cringe at the itinerary prices, but I’ll find a way to justify it to myself. In part, I have absolutely no faith in scoring a last-minute deal given the pent-up demand, record personal savings rate, and stimulus. Also in part, we really want to take another European cruise. (Maybe I’ll just let Sarah book the cruise and never tell me what it cost. Ignorance is bliss. )

With zero international travel, only one trip to Disneyland last year, and a couple of hotel stays at Walt Disney World, we spent a fraction of our normal budget last year. It’s looking less and less likely that Japan or Europe will be reopening borders anytime soon, so that’ll probably be true (albeit hopefully to a lesser degree) again this year. That’ll also make it easier to justify whatever these absurd prices end up being. I’m not looking forward to overpaying for a vacation, but I’m looking forward to a vacation enough that I’m willing to overpay for one!

Tom, Did you end up booking one of the St. Petersburg cruises this summer? Are you still planning to go? I think we still are but was wondering about your take. Thanks

disney cruise norwegian fjords 2022

Does anyone know if there will be repositioning cruses in the summer of 2022? We didn’t see the, listed. We would have linked to take the Dover to New York one but it doesn’t appear to be one of the options. Thanks

disney cruise norwegian fjords 2022

I’ve seen gorgeous photos of Porto. That would be a stop I would love to do.

disney cruise norwegian fjords 2022

We have enjoyed The Viking river cruises. They have Ocean cruises too. All include shore excursion each stop. Also wine and beer with lunch and dinner. Free wifi. No nickle and diming. We did A Rhine River Cruise and a Danube Cruise. Both were great.

disney cruise norwegian fjords 2022

Merci beaucoup Tom pour cet article. J’ai pu voyager ♥️ en ses moments très désagréables…. Paris repart pr un confinement de 4 semaines. Très dur pour eux et pour nos 2 parcs Disney. Céline

I love your insightful, intelligent discussions, also look forward to reading your articles when I see them in my inbox!

Has anyone done the British isles cruise? We’ve done Alaska and loved it. This year we are deciding between Norway and the British isles. Any opinions?

disney cruise norwegian fjords 2022

Norway if you’ve never been. But you can’t go wrong in either direction.

I don’t like to talk too much online in public about my past but for a couple of years in the nineties and again in mid 2000’s I worked extensively on cruise ships (stand up). Alaska or the Fjords of Norway…Both are incredible experiences, so amazing that they can leave one feeling closer to God. But to really appreciate those trips one MUST also get off the ship. Hike, kayak, go whale watching, explore cities that are a 900 years old. The first time you sail through Fjords tops watching glaciers cave but after that they’re pretty equal in astounding views and experiences that are intellectual, emotional, social, romantic and religious all at the same time! I don’t like discussing this out in the open but there are two things you should do, besides putting together a photo book, which I would gladly assist you with. Put together a DTB cruise (I’ve got some great ideas for that) and a short one day WDW get together/gathering with your readers. I know you claim to be on the shy side but with a good well thought out itinerary once you get past Hello you’ll find it’s easier done than said.

disney cruise norwegian fjords 2022

Has anyone ever taken a cruise from NY? We live close to NY and would love to take a cruise from there and back on Disney. I have seen prices but I don’t think they have anything out yet for next year to sail out of NY.

disney cruise norwegian fjords 2022

I also agree. Norway crushes Alaska by a mile. Geiranger fjords is easily one of my most favorite sail-ins to any port in the world.

Not really that much more difficult to get to Europe if you are on the east coast as well. For the west coasters Alaska is an easy trip but for those on the east coast it’s not that big of a difference to just head across the pond.

disney cruise norwegian fjords 2022

“Not really that much more difficult to get to Europe if you are on the east coast as well. For the west coasters Alaska is an easy trip but for those on the east coast it’s not that big of a difference to just head across the pond.”

Totally agree with this, but for many people it’s a mental barrier. Traveling to Vancouver is not as intimidating as Copenhagen or Dover. Personally, I think that’s irrational, but it is what it is.

disney cruise norwegian fjords 2022

No Galveston departures? That makes me sad as we are close enough to drive there. Adding in flights I’d rather just go to WDW instead.

Disney Cruise Line Announces Summer 2022 Itineraries (May – September)

Disney Cruise Line released their Summer 2022 itineraries today for the current fleet. The Disney Wish is not included in this release. However, based on the process of elimination, the Disney Wish is expected to take over the 3- and 4-night Bahamian sailings from the Disney Dream at Port Canaveral. The other major news in today’s itinerary announcement is the redeployment of the Disney Dream to her new homeport, Miami, Florida. As expected the Disney Magic will return to Europe, the Disney Wonder will spend the summer in Alaska, and the Disney Fantasy will remain at Port Canaveral offering Caribbean cruises.

Today’s release extends the available sail dates through the summer months of 2022 giving guests options for their future cruise credits and plan vacations more than one year out, as well as take advantage of opening day pricing for some of the new itineraries.

Although the dates were announced today, general booking will not open until Thursday March 25th . However, there will be a tiered booking period beginning Monday March 22nd.

  • Monday March 22nd – Platinum Castaway Club members & Disney’s Golden Oaks residents
  • Tuesday March 23rd – Gold Castaway Club members
  • Wednesday March 24th – Silver Castaway Club members, Adventures by Disney Insiders, and DVC members who have not previously sailed with DCL
  • Thursday March 25th, first time cruisers will be able to book.

If you’re an existing Castaway Club member, simply log in to your account now to verify your Castaway Club status, so you’ll be all set to book on your designated date. Alternatively, you can call (800) 388-4513 starting at 8:00 AM Eastern Time or contact your travel agent.

Golden Oak Club Members should contact Golden Oak Club Member Services, Disney Vacation Club Members wishing to book with points will need to call Member Services at (800) 800-9800. To make a cash-only booking, call Disney Cruise Line at (866) 325-6348. Finally, Adventures by Disney Insiders call (800) 388-4513 – or contact your travel agent.

Castaway Club members can book online beginning Monday! The only caveat is that this is for new bookings only as the website is still not set up to move a placeholder to a new booking. Those types of bookings will still require a phone call.

The following bears repeating, please do NOT try calling today to book; this will just clog up the phone lines and bog down the reservation cast members. There may be people attempting to book an available cruise vacation today.

Speaking of opening day, we will offer a look at  opening day prices for the Summer 2022 sailings  on Monday.

For those looking for Fall 2022 dates, we anticipate the next release to occur sometime in the spring just before the summer season gets underway based on the historical itinerary release cycle . As for the Disney Wish inaugural sailings, well, it could happen at any time. However, I suspect we will hear more about the ship before itineraries are announced as not everyone is keen on booking a cruise on a ship based only on the name, atrium, and stern character concept art.

Below you will find a breakout by ship, but this is a work in progress . I will be updating the website throughout the day as I load the sailings and upload the new itinerary maps. Thanks for all the great info Scott. Just a note though…the pdf and jpg links below the brochure title are not active.

' src=

Scott, this was temporary text for me to use to name the files. However, I have not seen an updated full brochure, just the summer 2020 specific version.

' src=

I’d imagine DCL want to see some more progress on the Wish before committing to sail dates.

' src=

Darn, I don’t see any double dip castaway cay cruises.

There is a double dip on the Dream from Miami.

' src=

James, I saw at least one sailing from Miami on the Dream.

' src=

Nera the top of the post, for the Dream 3 night sailings, it has Miami, At Sea, At Sea. Is one of those At Sea supposed to be Castaway, or is it truly leave Miami, sail around for 3 nights and come back? I could see myself doing either of those options. Thanks for all the hard work getting this info posted.

Hi, Don. This has been updated. It should be Miami, Nassau, and Castaway.

' src=

Do you know if we will be able to apply a credit from a cancelled cruise to an online booking?

' src=

Hi Scott! Will you have the pricing for the 07/21/2022 Fantasy sailing 9 day southern Caribbean?

Hi Michael, I posted a summary of the Summer 2022 opening day prices earlier this morning.

' src=

Scott, there is a discrepancy with your dates and ports for Disney Magic sailings out of the mediterranean summer 2022 sailings. You have listed 5/21/22 and 5/28/22 itineraries out of Barcelona for your blog on the summer itineraries and 5/22/22 and 5/29/22 dates for your blog on starting prices. Plus I noticed that the itineraries are slightly different. Can you clarify which set of dates and itineraries are accurate. Thanks!

Sophia, I am unable to see the discrepancy referenced in your comment. The 5/21/2022 and the 5/28/2022 sailings have been checked against Disney Cruise Line’s site and they details match. I’d be happy to fix the discrepancy, if you help me find it in the post.

Scott, it looks like you fixed the problem. The dates are the same now.

' src=

Hi Scott. Is the Dream going to be permanently in Miami? Even though we live in Miami, love the Dream and Port Canaveral.

' src=

Hi, we are schedule to go on the Disney Magic 11 night northern europe cruise from Dover, ending in Copenhagen 7/30. St. Petersberg was a 2 day stop but was cancel because of the Ukranian/Russian conflict. Have you heard where or what country will take the place of St. Petersberg?

At this point, they have been replaced with sea days .

Hello, I've wanted to go on a Norwegian Fjords cruise for some time. I was looking over the 2022 itinerary, and it doesn't seem to include the really spectacular fjords I've heard of (Geiranger?), but I'm certainly no expert. Day 1: Dover, England Day 2: At Sea Day 3: Alesund, Norway Day 4: Nordfjordeid, Norway Day 5: Eidfjord, Norway Day 6: Stavanger, Norway Day 7: At Sea Day 8: Dover, England I'm thinking of waiting to see if a better itinerary appears in 2023, especially since DCL seems to vary the Norwegian Fjords ports from year to year. I would love to hear others' opinions on the 2022 itinerary. Thank you!

It also misses Bergen, which we really liked for the Hanseatic museum and quaint old town area. You can take a funicular to the top of the mountain--we had to canx due to rain. However, there's no guarantee the next year will have G, etc. Or that it wouldn't be rainy or fogged in on your day anyway. I wouldn't delay just for G, if the other ports looks enticing and the timing for 2022 works for you. It was a great cruise--one of our favs.

AquaDame

I rushed a little to see Geiranger instead of sailing the next year without and we missed it due to wind (the other cruise ship in port that day still went ashore using their tender boats which was salt in the wound). Here's to no guarantees on the water! Eidfjord also has a viewpoint overlooking it and pics are cute of the parish so at first glance it seems a fair enough alternative..?

Those are all good points to think about. Thank you!

We did the cruise in 2019, and did stop at Alesund and it was amazing. We loved the port! The stop was too short to take the trip to the path of the trolls, so you may consider how long that stop is - the views from the path of the trolls look spectacular. We also stopped at Stavanger - and the fjords were impressive and the town was lovely! looking at the 2022 stops, I’d almost be tempted to go again! It was really an amazing itinerary!

We sailed the 2019 itinerary with Geiranger and Olden on the menu. Geiranger weather was picture perfect. Took the DCL excursion to Mt Dalsnibba - and also rode an electric car up the Eagle Road! We wouldn't have done one without either Geiranger or Flam. These are the two best-known fjord stops in that part of Norway. The problem is, Geiranger - for instance - has just a single floating dock and space for maybe two other ships tendered. For the short summer season, the early bird catches the worm. By the time Disney comes up with the single Norway summer itinerary, Geiranger is already snapped up - by the likes of MSC, NCL, etc. who are regulars with more lucrative port contracts. So, you have two options to hit Geiranger if it's not directly on the menu. 1 . You can rent a car in Alesund and, with the help of a couple of ferries, drive to Geiranger and back. You need at least 10 hours of port stop in Alesund to make it happen. 2 . The Nordfjordeid stop allows access to Geiranger from the south - and, I think, Disney has a Geiranger excursion. I think the 2019 itinerary is the perfect 7-day Norwegian Fjords itinerary that Disney has offered so far. We would redo it in a heartbeat if it ever returned. Here is a summary: - Alesund: Drove the Trollstigen/Troll Rd loop using our rental and - enjoyed the Alesund town too. - Geiranger: See above. - Olden: Drove to the Briksdal glacier and back. This drive was the most spectacular of the entire cruise. - Stavanger: Hiked the Pulpit Rock.

Let the countdown begin!

I thought the 2019 cruise was the last time the Magic could sail into Geiranger due to emissions.

Guest Trip Report: 10 Night Norwegian Fjords and Iceland on the Disney Magic, Day 2

October 29, 2018 by Disney Cruise Mom Leave a Comment

This is a guest trip report written by Carol, who sailed on the most recent 10 night cruise to the Norwegian Fjords and Iceland on the Disney Magic on August 16, 2018.  You can start the trip report from the beginning by clicking here .

Day 2: Kristiansand, Norway

Day two lead us to Kristiansand – our first stop on the cruise and our first stop in Norway!  After 3 days in Copenhagen and a busy first day on board, we had to get going right away for our first excursion .  Our first excursion was a Disney excursion – “Lillesand by Land & Sea (KR01)” .  We met in the Walt Disney Theater where we found out we needed to bring our passports (which was different from when we cruised in the Mediterranean and never needed to take our passports off the ship).  So, we went and grabbed our passports quickly and returned to get ready to disembark the ship for our excursion.  When our group was called, we disembarked the ship and boarded a bus.  We first took a bus through some of Kirstiansand and to the town of Lillesand just outside of Kristiansand, where we saw houses typical of the area and the small port area as well.

Typical houses in Kristiansand:

Small port area at Lillesand:

After the bus trip, we boarded a small boat for a 90 minute cruise on the inlet waters near Kristiansand and Lillesand.  The cruise was smooth (for those worried about seasickness – as I was) and the scenery amazing! We passed by many small homes which we were told we used by many Norwegians as summer homes as they were right on the water and Kristiansand is very south in the country.  We also learned that if a house has a flag flying then it means someone is home and all are welcome!  The cruise was fun, informative and I highly recommend it.

After our Disney excursion, we still had time to walk around town.  It’s a really cute town with a really easy layout so it’s easy to walk and very easy to get to and from the cruise ship.  Tom Sheridan writes a really good walking guide of Kristiansand with highlights of the city and you can see it here.

We followed some of it – mostly due to time constraints.  We started by going over the bridge as directed and saw the new opera house while we did – it is so beautiful and you can see the reflection of our ship in it.

We then headed toward Christiansholm Fortress, passing by these amazing sculptures and beautiful water fountain on the way:

Christiansholm Fortress was really neat, you could climb to the top of a spiral staircase and look inside and the views from the back were just inspiring.  You could really imagine being there trying to defend the city (although that’s what it was built for, it was never actually used for that purpose).  They are doing construction on it now to fix it up, but it really is an amazing Fortress and worth taking the time to check out!  Our kids loved the cannons and liked pretending to play with them.

After the fortress, we headed to the Cathedral.  The Cathedral is just breathtaking, and right outside the Cathedral and down the street is a street of outside vendors who all sell homemade, local Norway ware so once you are done being amazed by the Cathedral, you can shop and pick up some souvenirs before you head back to the ship.

On our way back we had an amazing view of the Disney Magic:

Back on board that night our dinner was at Rapunzel’s Royal Table.  I was so excited to try this new restaurant on the Magic, especially after having experienced Tiana’s Place on the Wonder, and I was not disappointed!  We were lucky enough to have a table close to the front and the stage and that made for a lot of interaction with the characters.  This first night was Rapunzel’s birthday and the thugs from the Snuggly Duckling were throwing her a surprise birthday party!  They were very interactive through many of the tables, they were funny and it was a great time!  Rapunzel came around to every table and greeted everyone and took pictures.  They also put on a great show, singing songs, both from the movies and other ones.  It made dinner so much more entertaining!

All in all it was an excellent day!!!

Up Next: Day 3 – Stavanger, Norway

Which Of The Five Disney Cruises Is The Best? Here's The Definitive Ranking

T here's just something special about Disney. Whether we're talking about the theme park's most iconic rides , its long list of highly-rated resort hotels around the world , or the brand's penchant for captivating storytelling and unforgettable experiences, it's safe to say that pretty much everything that Disney touches quickly turns to gold. Their top-ranked cruise line is no different .

The first iteration of Disney's Cruise Line set sail in 1998 under the name Disney Magic. One year later, the Disney Wonder took to the sea. Today, at the time of writing, the current Disney fleet includes a list of five enchanting ships: the Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, Disney Magic, Disney Wish, and Disney Wonder. Coming in December 2024, a new vessel is set to join the crew: the Disney Treasure.

For travelers planning their own sea-bound adventure, it can be difficult to differentiate and ultimately choose between the five. After analyzing reviews, the cost-to-value ratio, unique amenities, each ship's design, and onboard entertainment options, we finally settled on our definitive ranking of Disney's cruise ships — all so you can choose which Disney cruise might be right for you .

5. Disney Wish

Although there aren't any necessarily "bad" Disney cruises, the Disney Wish has come under fire from travelers and Disney fans since its official launch in 2022. Specifically, most reviews believe the ship has some pretty glaring issues in terms of spacing and overall layout — both of which make it incredibly difficult to get around. According to previous travelers, the ship — one of the largest of the Disney Cruise Line fleet — surprisingly only has two sets of stairs and elevators for everyone onboard. This, in turn, means there's always a crowd. It also means that adult activities, like nightclubs and lounges, are scattered around, so there is no dedicated adult-only zone, which ultimately muddles the experience.

When it comes to entertainment, however, the Disney Wish does a slightly better job at redeeming itself with four theaters, the kid-favored Oceaneer Club, three main restaurants (assigned on a rotational basis to passengers), adult-friendly bars, and more. As for the pools, some travelers say that these feel more like hot tubs because of their small size. And the water slides? Per online blogs, they're mediocre at best.

It's worth noting that Disney Wish is one of the highest priced of the Disney Cruises for not that much more value, aside from being a more modern vessel — according to reviews on Cruise Critic and Tripadvisor . As an example, Disney Wish offers three- and four-day itineraries from Florida to the Bahamas, with the ship's most affordable route — a three-night cruise from Port Canaveral — priced at $1,925 for two guests.

4. Disney Dream

Operating since 2011, the Disney Dream cruise ship is a strong contender in terms of amenities. Throughout its 14 decks, the ship boasts five main restaurants (including two that are adults only), theaters, bars and lounges, adult-only and kid-friendly pools, sun decks, and plenty more to keep travelers entertained. Nonetheless, some online reviews have expressed disappointment that the ship's dining experiences feel fragmented — leaving plenty to be desired in terms of themed dining.

Considered one of the most kid-friendly cruise lines, the Disney Dream is brimming with kid-focused activities — including daily princess meet-and-greets, movie-themed shows, character cameos, and a bustling kid's club. However, according to a recent discussion on the r/DCL subreddit , the ship's history of shorter itineraries typically makes it less desirable than its counterparts, since there's only so much you can enjoy with so little time — although it's important to note it has expanded itinerary options to include week-long and 12-night trips in Europe.

Lastly, in terms of pricing, the Disney Dream's rates vary depending on length and route. For example, a three-day trip to the Bahamas from Ft. Lauderdale will set you back around $1,700 for two people. Meanwhile, on the farther and pricier end of the spectrum, the Disney Dream's 12-night Norwegian Fjords and Iceland cruise carries a higher price tag at $8,565 for two.

3. Disney Wonder

Even though it's a smaller ship, one of Disney Wonder's main selling points is that — out of the five vessels currently sailing today — it's the only ship that offers Alaska-bound cruises, as well as trips along New Zealand and Australia. Given this, it's no surprise that the Disney Wonder often ranks in the top-half of fan-favorite Disney ships — especially for first-timers who want to get a feel of the experience before moving up to a larger ship.

Beyond the ship's unique destinations, some of the Disney Wonder's most notable amenities include three main restaurants (with rotational dining), three heated pools for when you're traveling to cooler destinations, nightly entertainment options, a prim and proper "Royal Court Royal Tea" for the little princesses and princes to enjoy, and even a nightclub for the adults who crave a party. As for dining, one of the highlights of the ship is the New Orleans-inspired restaurant, Tiana's Place. Not only does the restaurant serves some pretty delicious meals, but it also hosts nightly entertainment and its own mini-version of a Mardi Gras parade.

Tickets for the Disney Wonder start from $1,104 for a two-night cruise from Sydney to Brisbane for two passengers. Longer trips are also available — like a seven-night Vancouver to Alaska cruise for $3,424 for two, or a 10-night Hawaiian adventure for $4,013.

2. Disney Magic

The second-best ship on our list is the Disney Magic. After debuting in 1998, the ship has undergone plenty of updates and renovations to keep it modern and appealing — all while staying true to its original charm. Another one of the fleet's smaller vessels — with capacity for just over 2,700 passengers, compared to the others' ability to accommodate up to 4,000 (except Disney Wonder) — the Disney Magic isn't struggling to keep up with any of the larger (or newer) ships.

One of the ship's highlights is the AquaDunk — a top-rated water slide within the entire Disney Cruise Line fleet — which features a straight-down, three-story drop into the pool. Other amenities that make the ship worth your bucks include daily character meet-and-greets, nighttime entertainment (the ship's Cinderella-themed show is a must-see), and delicious dining options. Traveling with an adults-only crew? Disney Magic is ready to cater with bars and lounges, couples' games nights, and adult-themed trivia nights.

Price-wise, the Disney Magic offers trips that range from roughly $1,500 to just over $7,000 for two guests to either the Bahamas or other must-visit destinations in the Caribbean , including Mexico and Antigua. Specifically, a 4-night Caribbean cruise to Mexico will cost two travelers $1,534. On the pricier side, a 10-night cruise through the Eastern Caribbean will set you and a travel partner back about $7,359.

1. Disney Fantasy

Topping off the list, and coming in as the top-ranked Disney cruise, is the Disney Fantasy. After setting sail for the first time in 2012, the ship has quickly cemented itself a go-to for Disney fans and cruise lovers looking for a longer getaway. With six, seven, and 10-night cruise routes available through the Caribbean, the Disney Fantasy ticks all the boxes in terms of entertainment, comfort, and adventure.

Much like the other ships that belong to the Disney Cruise Line, the Disney Fantasy is equipped with plenty of onboard entertainment and amenities that'll make any trip unforgettable. From kid clubs to Broadway-style stage performances, meet-and-greets with beloved Disney characters, and both kid-friendly and adult-only pools, the ship is anything but boring. Plus, as an added bonus, the Disney Fantasy is also home to one of the best adults-only districts, Europa. With bars and eateries inspired by European destinations, it's a great escape for adult travelers who want some respite from kid-centric spaces.

Lastly, it's worth mentioning that — similar to the Disney Wish — the Disney Fantasy is pricier than other ships, with 3-night trips to the Bahamas starting from $1,996 for two people. However, the destinations more than make up for the cost. For example, the Disney Fantasy is the only ship to offer transatlantic journeys — like their 13-night cruise from Port Canaveral, Florida, to Barcelona in Spain starting at $4,859.

Our Ranking Methodology

There's a lot that goes into each Disney cruise ship. From themed restaurants to activities, entertainment, and accommodations, each of the Disney Cruise Line's vessels are designed with pretty much the same intention: to provide guests with a Disney-themed experience where, in Disney's own words, "magic meets the sea," no matter the route or destination. Nonetheless — and in spite of these shared goals — there are certain things that some ships do better than others.

In order to come up with our ranking, our primary focus was on the relationship between guest experience and value aboard each ship. Scouring through online reviews and fan forums, as well as the official Disney Cruise Line website, we created a list of each of the ship's pros and cons. From there, we compared these factors against the price of a ticket for two travelers for an inside cabin (typically the most affordable rate). This ultimately helped us find a correlation between how much guests were paying to travel on the ship and what they were getting in return.
