Is Cory Rogers any good on the Allure?

I have not cruised with Cory as CD but had the opportunity to meet him when he came aboard Grandeur to shadow John Blair.  He had just come from Carnival and was there to learn the ropes.  I found him to be very personable and outgoing so I have good expectations for him.

Agree, very nice and approachable guy. 2 days into our 9 nt Indy cruise last month is when he accepted the Allure CD job, so his replacement took over from that point on.

If he was the CD in October on the Allure, I found him to be tolerable but not engaging.... Hope he will not be on the Enchantment. Yawn.

Thanks for keeping track of  the CD's.  Hope to sail with you again before too long..

Why is a CD last name important?  Just wondering.

Just for general identification purposes.  With all the RCI ships and some old and new CDs, a last name just helps to make things clear.

We were on the Anthem's Thanksgiving cruise. CD introduced himself as ...." I am your cruise Director, It's Mark!". Exact words. Got me wondering what his last name or initial of last name was, not that it matters, but just curious.

If you are interested in this thread, then isn't the last name important?  Mark isn't exactly a unique name so you could have different Marks.  Isn't there a Mark Walker (or something like that)?

The current CD on Anthem is Mark Rous.

Surfguyxxx

Just off the Independence OTS; Sophie was probably the worst CD I've encountered.  Monotone voice, hardly any enthusiasm and just boring.

Update...12-2-21   Can anyone update on Freedom, please?

ANTHEM: Mark Rous from Southampton #2076/#12

Navigator Of The Seas Itineraries

Navigator of the seas review, review of navigator of the seas.

The 2002-built Navigator of the Seas cruise ship is the 4th Voyager-class Royal Caribbean liner, with sisterships Adventure OTS , Explorer OTS , Mariner OTS , Voyager OTS .

The vessel (IMO number 9227508) is currently Bahamas- flagged (MMSI 311478000) and registered in Nassau .

History - construction and ownership

Royal Caribbean International (RCI) is a US passenger shipping company, trademarked travel brand and subsidiary owned by Royal Caribbean Group (RCG/shipowner). RCI was established in 1968 and currently has over 1/5 of the worldwide cruise market. RCI also has RCG's largest fleet by both vessel number and GT tonnage (ship sizes and capacities).

All RCI liners have names ending with "of the Seas".

Navigator Of The Seas cruise ship (Royal Caribbean)

The 3400-passenger ship Navigator OTS, like the sisterships, features some of the industry's most unique facilities - like a Rock-Climbing Wall, Ice-Skating Rink, indoor Promenade street, large sports complex, in-line Skating Track.

As a second-generation (modified) Voyager-class ship, Navigator OTS has a larger Windjammer buffet area with the Asian "Jade" and "The Plaza" bar. The first generation Voyager-class ships metal-walled balconies are here replaced with glass railings. Navigator OTS features more glass exteriors, wine bar, expanded youth amenities, Plaza Bar zone (with dining venues / both complimentary and at a fee), first at sea Latin Jazz Bar, first at sea Ben and Jerry's ice-cream parlor. Later, RCI spread these concepts fleetwide.

Decks and Cabins

Navigator Of The Seas staterooms (1674 total, in 34 grades) include 119 Suites, 671 Balcony, 232 OceanView, 138 Promenade View, 514 Inside (including Virtual Balcony). Most cabins are sized 150-160 ft2 (14-15 m2). Most cabin balconies are sized 50 ft2 (5 m2). The largest is Royal Suite (1090 ft2 / 101 m2 plus 215 ft2 / 20 m2 terrace with Jacuzzi). Wheelchair-accessible cabins are 27.

The boat has 15 decks , of which 14 are passenger-accessible and 9 with cabins.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

Eating options aboard Navigator OTS were expanded during ship's 2014 refurbishment. The line added Sabor - a Mexican restaurant, and Izumi Japanese Cuisine - Asian-fusion eatery. The Italian Portofino was replaced with a new family-style option called Giovanni's Table. Longtime Royal Caribbean's steakhouse Chops Grille features a revamped menu including premium steak options. The 3-level main dining room was consolidated under one name, the Sapphire and redesigned - now decorated in golds and whites, with a grand staircase, dark carpeting, white linens, and a dramatic chandelier. Reservations are recommended for the speciality restaurants. Guests can make reservations online (up to 4 days prior to the cruise) for parties of up to 6, or once onboard at reservation tables outside the Windjammer buffet, by calling guest services or at the restaurants themselves.

Follows the complete list of Navigator of the Seas restaurants and food bars.

  • Sapphire (735-seat aft Dining Room with fixed seating for Dinner)
  • Windjammer Cafe Lido buffet restaurant (348-seat, offers Early Breakfast at 6:30 am, Breakfast between 7-11:30 am, Lunch 11.30-3:30 pm and Dinner 6.30-9 pm)

Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport

At night, Navigator of the Seas offers traditional-style productions (singing and dancing shows) presented in The Royal Theatre. Bar venues offer various musical performances aimed to please everybody at any time with classical guitar, jazz, and country. Beyond the usual, where this cruise vessel excels is unique, like Studio B ice rink which hosts "Ice Dancing" - worth the effort to get a ticket (free of charge but the venue is tiny, so tickets are limited). The Royal Promenade on some nights comes alive with street entertainment. New to the ship after the refurbishment is the signature R Bar, which replaced the Champagne Bar located on Deck 5, outside the Promenade. This is a very popular gathering spot for pre- and post-dinner exotic cocktails, mixed by using various techniques.

The RCI's enhanced Adventure Ocean youth program is hosted in a redesigned playground space. With trained staff and RCI's award-winning kids programming, the contemporary concept offers activities organized by interests. The teen areas sport updates via the redesigned teen-only laidback hangout, Living Room, as well as a "hidden" entrance and outdoor deck serving up nothing but chill vibes.

Additional amenities include Complimentary 24-hour Room-Service, Supervised Youth program, Internet/WiFi Access, Laundry.

Navigator Of The Seas Wiki

Navigator is one of Royal Caribbean's Voyager-class liners, with sisterhips Adventure , Explorer , Mariner , Voyager . Voyager-class Royal Caribbean vessels were all built in Finland by shipbuilder Kvaerner Masa-Yards. This company was later acquired by STX Europe (part of STX Corporation, South Korea).

Navigator Of The Seas cruise ship (Royal Caribbean)

The ship's godmother is Stefanie Maria Graf/Steffi Graf (1969-born German tennis player). The naming ceremony was held on December 6, 2002. Steffi Graf has 107 singles titles and is 3rd in the WTA chart - after Martina Navratilova (167 titles) and Chris Evert (157 titles). RCI Navigator's Maiden Voyage left on December 14th.

Navigator OTS refurbishment 2024 review

The ship's last drydock was in 2024 (February 16-April 6) conducted by Seatrium Marine in Singapore .

The drydocking project was mainly for routine technical maintenance (machinery overhaul, classification works, minor repairs/steel works) as well as general hotel upkeep - updates to some public areas and passenger staterooms (carpeting, new upholstery, walling).

Navigator OTS refurbishment 2019 review

During drydock refurbishment in 2019 (January 5 - February 23), the ship was Royal Amplified at the cost of USD 115 million. The grandiose project resulted in the following changes:

  • On Sports Deck 13, RCI's waterslides "Cyclone" and "Typhoon" (Perfect Storm aqua park) were installed (next to the FlowRider simulator).
  • On Spa Deck 12 (aft), the "Slashaway Bay" kids aqua park was added. This is an interactive water play area (with cannons and geysers), replacing the old Outdoor Youth Area (aka "back deck").

Following the refit, the vessel now has some unique new facilities currently not available on other RCI ships.

  • In addition to "Perfect Storm", a new water coaster (trademarked as "The Blaster") and a new headfirst mat racing slide (trademarked as "Riptide") were also installed. RCI trademarked both names in September 2018.
  • The Blaster aqua coaster has length 244 m (800 ft) - ranking it the longest at sea 2-person raft slide.
  • The Riptide mat racing waterslide features a transparent tube.

Also new for the fleet is "To Dry For" - new blow-dry bar (specializing in quick beauty fixes/hairstyling) and also serving champagnes and wines by the glass. "To Dry For" was trademarked in July 2018.

The list of other new venues and activities includes:

  • Lime and Coconut (2-level bar lounge with live music)
  • Bamboo Room (bar lounge)
  • Johnny Rockets Express (fleet's first)
  • Playmakers Sports Bar and Arcade (with "Owner's Box" VIP room)
  • Starbucks Bar (specialty drinks and pastries)
  • new restaurants (El Loco Fresh, Jamie's Italian, Hooked Seafood)
  • The Observatorium (Royal Escape Room)
  • Battle for Planet Z (laser tag course at Studio B)
  • redesigned Mini-Golf Course

Navigator of the Seas Review! Is this the best ship sailing out of Los Angeles

West Coast cruises are much more sparse when compared to the thousands of sailings heading off the coast of Florida. That being said the options are increasing with a few ships heading to the west coast from companies like Disney Cruise and now Royal Caribbean.

We took sail on the newly amplified Navigator of the Seas for a 3 day journey down to Ensenada, here is our complete Navigator of the Seas Review.

Amplified Navigator of the Seas

Navigator-of-the-Seas-Back-of-Ship

The Navigator of the Seas is one of the latest ships from Royal Caribbean international to have been completely upgraded with the addition of water slides, a new fun deck area, revitalized rooms and so much more.

It has many of the fun aspects of some of the new Royal Caribbean ships like the Harmony and Symphony of the Seas .

Navigator of the Seas Dining

Dining has to be a top part of our Navigator of the Seas review and any cruise for that matter. There are several restaurants that the amplified Navigator of the Seas offers, however if you have not upgraded your dining the options are a bit limited. Let’s go over all the dining options included in your cruise fare.

Windjammer Buffet

The Windjammer Buffet is definitely one of the most popular places to grab food while onboard the Navigator of the seas. There you will find a wide selection of foods from ethnic dishes like Indian cuisine (my favorite) to burgers, pasta, ribs etc.. Breakfast offerings include everything you would expect, oatmeal, eggs, omelets, baked goods, cereal and more.

I have to say I was not a fan of breakfast as much, perhaps the healthy options I was looking for just didn’t satisfy my taste buds.

El Loco Fresh

El Loco Fresh

El Loco Fresh is a great little stop on the pool deck where you can grab some tacos, burritos, nachos and more. The tacos and burritos were delicious, the nachos left a little to be desired…. that cheese sauce was not for me.

Cafe Promenade

Cafe promenade is where you will find pizza, sandwiches, baked goods, fresh fruit and more. It is located on Deck 5 across from Legends sports bar. This is your go to spot for grabbing a late night snack after a fun night onboard the ship

Main Dining Room

The Main Dining Room on the Navigator of the Seas occupies good real estate towards the ship’s back.

Passengers can enjoy a complimentary nightly supper on the three-deck venue, with the option of My Time Dining (where you can walk in and be seated whenever you want between 5:30 and 9:30 p.m.) or traditional dining (where you sit at the same table, with the same wait staff, at 6 or 8:30 p.m. every night). Those who choose My Time Dining must make a reservation.

Starters include beef carpaccio, French onion soup, escargot, and an iceberg wedge salad; main courses include almond-crusted cod, duck a l’orange, vegetable casserole, and the usual chicken breast and steak; and desserts include carrot cake and sugar-free peach shortcake, and creme brulee.

Upgraded Dining Options

We paid to upgrade our dining to the unlimited dining ($89 per person for the 3 night cruise) and were surprised to say it was definitely worth it. The unlimited dining includes dinner and lunch at 5 different specialty restaurants plus dining credit to the Legends Sports Bar and Johnny Rockets.

***Pro Tip*** Book the Unlimited Dining Online to Save Money & Also book reservations online at the upgraded restaurants as they do book up fast

Jamie’s Italian ( $39.99 for adults, $10 for kids )

Navigator of the Seas Review - Jamie's Italian

Jamie’s Italian was our favorite dining experience. It is surprising the least booked and I think that is simply because it is the least expensive, so if you have the unlimited dining plan, people feel like they are not getting as good of a value.

The food at Jamie’s was top knotch from the amazing appetizers, the incredible short rib (a must) and the lemon meringue cheesecake is one of the best desserts I have ever had.

Izumi Sushi (A La Carte Pricing)

Izumi Sushi - Navigator of the Seas

Located on deck 15, Izumi Sushi is a must stop if you enjoy sushi. Everything from the miso soup to the sushi rolls were incredible.

Also, don’t pass up on the ramen, it is very, very good. Our kids loved the experience so much they asked to have it for lunch on our day at sea. Unlimited dining plans receive one appetizer two entrees and one dessert per sitting.

Chop’s Grill ( $42.99 for adults, $10 for kids )

Chop’s grill was probably my least favorite of the dining experiences but one of the most booked up locations. It could be that I am not a big steak person, but the food overall was not as exceptional as I expected. You can enjoy several different cuts of steak along with an assortment of different sides.

Hooked Seafood Grill ( $42.99 for adults, $10 for kids )

Hooked Seafood Grill

We were unable to booked Hooked but it looked amazing. Raw oysters and other shellfish specialties are on the menu, as well as fresh fish prepared any way you like it.

Playmakers Bar & Grill (a la carte pricing)

Playmakers bar and grill offer classic bar fare from wings to burgers and delicious desserts. Get the s’mores brownie, it is incredible. The wings are pretty top notch too. The pricing is A La carte but if you have the unlimited dining you get $30 per person per sitting which is way more than you will ever need.

IMG 8492

Johnny Rockets

Back on the pool deck is Johnny Rockets Express. Your classic burgers, shakes and fries are available at this location. The shakes are not included in the dining plan here, however you can get a soda if you have the dining plan even without the soda or drinks plan.

Room Service: $7.95

Room service is offered 24 hours a day, and all orders, with the exception of continental breakfast and those placed by passengers sleeping in Grand Suites or higher, the rate is $7.95.

Activities on Board the Navigator of the Seas

There are a ton of activities onboard the Navigator of the Seas. We had a blast exploring the ship. While it is not a mega ship like Harmony of the Seas or any of the Oasis Class ships, Royal Caribbean has done a great job packing in a ton of entertainment on this ship and it is the most modern of the voyager class ship.

Water Slides

Navigator of the Seas Water Slides

There are two water slides onboard the Navigator of the Seas and both are some of the best slides I have been on for a cruise ship.

The Blaster Aqua Coaster

The Blaster Aqua Coaster is a two-person raft that propels riders through more than 800 feet of hills, drops, and straightaways, including extending over the side of the ship for a burst of ocean air. It is the cruise line’s first-ever aqua coaster and the longest waterslide at sea.

***Note*** The Blaster was only open on our day at sea, so make sure to jump on this ride during your day at sea. (2 people are required to ride the blaster)

Riptide slide royal caribbean

Riptide allows you to take a headfirst plunge down the industry’s only headfirst mat racer and finish in a thrilling translucent tube with unlimited ocean vistas. This slide can go pretty fast if you want it to.

ROyal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas Pool Deck

The pool deck has a very fun vibe to it with bright colors. There are three different Jacuzzis that got pretty filled up because it was a surprisingly cold weekend while onboard the ship. There are also several cabanas which look like they will be extra but are first come first serve. Some have amazing views.

During the day, the Lime & Coconut is a lively area where you can relax, enjoy some great music and have a delicious cocktail.

Royal Caribbean Mini Golf

Mini golf onboard Navigator of the Seas is a ton of fun. Royal Caribbean had a family mini golf competition which we sadly missed but of course we created our own amongst are family which was a ridiculous amount of fun.

Navigator of the Seas Rock Climbing

The rock climbing wall is located on Deck 14 above the sports deck. There are several different paths from easy to quite difficult. This made it fun as our kids kept trying to improve and try the rock wall again and again to see if they could accomplish the most difficult course.

Sports Court

Navigator of the Seas Sport Court

The Sports Court is where you often found our boys. There are basketball competitions onboard from free throw to three point competitions. 7 day cruises have 3 on 3 tournaments. The court is also setup for soccer and pickle-ball games at times too. Next to the sports court are some ping pong tables to enjoy.

Flow Rider Surf Simulator

Navigator of the Sea Flow Rider

Located at the back of the ship is the flow rider. The flowrider surf simulator allows you a chance to test our your boogie boarding or surfing skills. There are certain times for the flow rider and they are designated for if you want to surf or boogie board so check your Royal Caribbean app for times.

Ice Skating

On Deck 3 you can actually Ice Skate onboard the Navigator of the Seas. This small Ice rink is a lot of fun, but times do book up fast so try to book with your app once you get onboard.

Legends Sports Bar

Legends Sports Bar is a great place to hang out. They have table shuffleboard, pool and foosball to play for free, plus they are playing many popular games on their numerous tv’s.

Escape Room & Lazer Tag

Both of these experiences were closed onboard our ship. I think they have not brought everything back fully yet and this is one of the few experiences that was not yet ope but soon will be.

To Dry For! New Blow Dry Bar

On board make sure that you check out the new To Dry For blow dry bar to get glammed up and look amazing the rest of your cruise!

Shows/Entertainment

Navigator of the Seas Ice Show

There were several shows onboard the Navigator of the Seas. The first and 3rd night had an Ice Skating show which is the best show on the ship by far. There was also a comedian, a broadway style production and several of the pubs on the promenade have live music including the Bamboo Room which was a very lively venue.

The casino onboard the cruise ship is fun but they do allow smoking which makes it less fun. They have all the table games from craps, to blackjack to roulette.

Bingo on Cruise

There are several other types of games on the ship from Harry Potter Trivia to the most popular event Bingo.

Deluxe Family Suite

We stayed in the deluxe family suite which was the first time we stayed in a suite and it was a ton of fun to have all 8 of us in a room, although sometimes with teenage boys….less fun.

The suites have upgraded linens and bath products and an espresso maker. The deck off the back of the suite was massive. Also, with the suite you have access to FREE In room Dining (regular $7.95) and access to the suite lounge and concierge

Suite Lounge/ Concierge

The suite lounge is located on Deck 15 and was a nice place to stop by in the evening as they have appetizers and free cocktails from 5-7 pm each evening.

The concierge was by far the best part of having a suite. He contacted us before the cruise to help with bookings of restaurants and excursions (we should have taken him up on the excursions as the one we wanted was all booked by the time we got on board)

He also helped us get show and ice skating reservations when things were pretty booked.

Kids Club/Teen Club

The Kids Club was a definite highlight of the trip for Olivia. She loved it! The kids club (aka Adventure Ocean) would have activities the kids could take part in or they could do their own thing and play video games or do arts and crafts.

There were set times each day for the kids club, 9am -12 p.m. 2-5 p.m. and 7 -10 p.m. I actually enjoyed this as otherwise Olivia would just want to be in the kids club the whole time so it was a nice balance.

The teen area is located on the back of the ship in a hidden area and has a pretty cool vibe. Our kiddos did not visit because well there are so many of them they kind of have their own club, but it looked pretty awesome.

Back Deck Teen Lounge Navigator of the Seas

Navigator of the Seas Service

I think one of the highlights of my Navigator of the seas review was the service. The service onboard the ship was outstanding.

There weren’t the pushy waiters trying to get you to buy drinks everywhere you went like some other cruises I have been on. The staff from the waiters, to entertainment, to kids club to the pool staff was just there to make sure you had a great time.

Navigator of the Seas Booking Hack!

One of the hacks that we use when booking cruises is actually really simple. Expedia gets exclusive special offers and extras on cruises that smaller travel agencies don’t get plus they have a rewards program that gives you 4% money back for future vacations. You can book your Navigator of the Seas vacation here!

Overall – Navigator of the Seas Review

Overall, the ship was great, normally your amazing cruise ships are sailing Caribbean cruises, but this one is unbelievable. The staff was great and the food was for the most part phenomenal. They pack a ton of activities onboard this ship. I think the only thing lacking was more dining options during the daytime on the pool deck.

There are definitely plenty of activities for the whole family. Whether it was us the parents, or our teens, or even our 8 year there was constant entertainment even though it was a surprisingly cold weekend when we sailed. You can can book or learn more at Royal Caribbeans’s official website

We were on the ship from May 9-13 and had a great time. I wanted to learn more about the cruise director, Mey, but can’t find anything on her. She was a fabulous singer, dancer, and all around host. The Set Sail party and live shows on the Promenade deck were so enjoyable. Please send me info on this fantastic cruise director! Was she a substitute? If so, she is worthy of a full time position!

We sailed in early March. Weather in February is typically cooler than normal.

We are sailing last week of November this year. Our first cruise. should we do the unlimited dining, the cost seems high for a 7 day cruise. we are used to all inclusive vacations and accustomed to eating when we want. should we purchase excursions before hand or are they offered on the cruise. Very nervous since we are new to all this

October 23, 2022 at 7:21 am

You can just upgrade a few nights of dining to make it more affordable. That would be my recommendation. Book all excursions beforehand as they do sell out. Let me know if you have any other questions.

We are going out 12/23/22 on the Navigator for 7 nights to Mexico. It will be our 5th cruise on RCCL, after having three postponed/canceled since 2020. Our last was on Navigator in 2019, and looking forward to the changes made to it. I recommend not buying the unlimited Dining package or the Deluxe (alcoholic) drink package. Both are very expensive, even with pre-cruise discounts. You really do have to eat, and drink A LOT to make it worthwhile, and it really isn’t necessary, as the food in the MDR and the Windjammer are very good. If you are new to cruising, just pick one or two of the specialty restaurants – Jaime’s Italian is excellent btw, our sons(then 6 & 11) loved it. I have the experience of staff drastically discounting specialty dining during the cruise & you may get a deal. Pro Tip: Book a suite. That way you’ll get access to the Concierge Lounge, where complimentary adult beverages are served before dinner, along with small plates. Excursions- we are not big on the fondling the Dolphins or petting the tame stingrays, but do book the port/city tour and the beach brake pre-cruise.

All about the Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas

Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas cruise ship

The Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas was built in 2002. It was renovated in 2019. It's considered a medium size ship. Coming in at 1,020 ft long and 157 ft wide, it's roughly the length of 2.8 football fields, as wide as 3 tractor trailers, and the same height as a 14-story building.

Navigator of the Seas Size and Passengers

The Navigator of the Seas can hold 3,386 based on double occupancy (two people per room) and more when you take into account 3rd and 4th passengers. When you compare the total tonnage of the ship to the number of passengers, the Navigator of the Seas has a space ratio of 41. Depending on the ship, this number can range from 30 to 52 (with a bigger number meaning more space per person) so this ship's space-to-person ratio is about average.

The Navigator of the Seas is one of five Voyager-class ships currently sailing with Royal Caribbean. The Voyager-class ships were the first to introduce the Royal Promenade, a large central hub that runs through the middle of the ship, offering shopping, restaurants, bars, and activities. It also saw the introduction of the Studio B Ice Skating Rink and a climbing wall onboard. The Navigator of the Seas is very similar to its sister-ships; Voyager of the Seas, Explorer of the Seas, Adventure of the Seas and Mariner of the Seas, although each ship may have some differences.

Navigator of the Seas Food and Restaurants

Chops Grille on the Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas

Food is a big part of any cruise, and there will plenty on the Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas. You have 11 different dining options to choose from. Of those options, 4 are complementary, or included with your cruise fare. The other 7 options have an additional fee. Some of those options are a set price and some have a la cart menu pricing. Only 36% of the dining options are included meaning you might spend more while on the ship due to the additional fees.

Navigator of the Seas Bars and Drinks

Royal Caribbean's Playmakers

Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas has 11 different bars and lounges where you can enjoy a beer or cocktail. It also has 1 other bars that are available for select guests.

Alcohol is not included in the base price of this cruise ship. To see if you would save money with a drink package, try our Drink Package Calculator.

Royal Caribbean also serves the Coca-cola family of products. That means Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite and Barqs Root Beer, although the selection can vary by ship. Most Royal Caribbean ships also have Coke Freestyle machines where you can make 100 different flavor combinations.

Pools and Hot Tubs on Navigator of the Seas

Caribbean Themed Main Pool Area on the Navigator of the Seas

Nothing beats relaxing by a pool with a nice drink in hand as you feel the fresh sea breeze pass by you. The problem is that with thousands of people on a ship, there's not always room. If you want to spend all day in a pool, a cruise might not be the right choice. You would have a much better bet choosing a resort with a huge pool complex. That being said, a quick dip in the pool can be nice on a hot day.

The Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas has a total of 3 pools and 6 hot tubs.

Tired of loud kids and splashing? 1 of the pools and 2 of the hot tubs are adults only.

Navigator of the Seas Features and Activities

There are quite a few things to do on the Navigator of the Seas. These are the main amenities that are available. Some are included in the cost of the cruise, while others have an additional charge.

Royal Caribbean is a mainstream cruise line. Mainstream cruise lines cater to a variety of guests, hoping to provide something for everyone. These typically cost about $100 - $350 per person per day.

Cruise pricing is dynamic and varies for each specific sailing based on factors such as departure point, ports of call, and time of year.

Navigator of the Seas Onboard Costs

Another way to gauge the cost of a cruise is to consider how much you'll spend on board. Even though a lot is included in the base cruise fare, you may still spend money on things like spa treatments, specialty dining, drinks, and excursions. In addition, guests can also have to pay for things like gratuities and tips.

Typically guests can expect to spend about 25 - 40% of the cost of the cruise on onboard expenses. In other words, if the cruise fare is $1,000 per person, you might spend between $250 and $400 on extra expenses.

The table below will help you understand what you might spend onboard a Royal Caribbean ship.

Royal Caribbean uses dynamic pricing, which means the pricing for many things will vary per sailing. The daily gratuities and tip are consistent across the fleet, but the pricing for the drink package, internet, and excursions will change. The only way to know your price is to consult the Royal Caribbean cruise planner once you're booked.

Carnival, Royal Caribbean cruise ships embark from Baltimore in latest sign of recovery after Key Bridge collapse

By Mike Hellgren

Updated on: May 27, 2024 / 8:05 PM EDT / CBS Baltimore

BALTIMORE -- On the cusp of nine weeks since the Key Bridge collapse, the Carnival Pride embarked from Baltimore Sunday on a 14-day journey to Greenland.

fsddfsvdbb.jpg

The day before, Royal Caribbean's Vision of the Seas left Baltimore for Bermuda—exciting for Colonel Estee Pinchasin of the Unified Command.

"Did you guys notice the cruise ship?" she asked reporters with a smile while on a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers tour of the recovery efforts on Friday.

Thomas Sitzler and his friends were onboard the Vision of the Seas to celebrate his partner's 60th birthday. It was important that they leave from Baltimore.

"Our fingers were crossed the entire time. We knew if we couldn't do this now, there would be another opportunity with Royal Caribbean to do this," Sitzler told WJZ. "The whole plan was to cruise out of Baltimore into and out of the [Chesapeake] Bay because all of these people grew up in the area, and they wanted to see all the sites from the water, so it's super cool we're going to go out this way."

Jonathan Daniels, the Executive Director of the Maryland Port Administration, said the economic impact is more than one million dollars for each ship. He noted more than 440,000 people cruised out of Baltimore last year—the second highest number since 2012–and promised more growth ahead.

"We hate to see any business leave for any period of time, but certainly thank the flexibility that was out there for the industry,"  Daniels said and referenced the temporary rerouting of cruises to Norfolk, Virginia.

Signs outside the Cruise Maryland terminal  welcomed back cruisers while tropical music played inside the terminal which served as the Unified Command's headquarters less than a week earlier.

After the Dali was successfully re-floated and removed from the collapse site last Monday, Unified Command packed up and left the cruise terminal, but they still continue working and providing updates on the recovery process.

"We are here to celebrate the fortitude and the work that was done during the last two months to bring cruising back so quickly," Daniels said.

After the Dali was removed , the main 50-foot-deep channel could accommodate these larger cruise vessels, but for now, there's only one-way traffic—with the opening of the full 700-foot width pushed back from the end of May until June 8th to 10th.

"We're very proud of the hard work that our team put in to get to 400 feet across, 50 feet down, which allows any vessel that used to come to Baltimore to come in now," Pinchasin said.

WJZ Investigator Mike Hellgren came to WJZ in the spring of 2004. Solid reporting credentials and a reputation for breaking important news stories have characterized Mike's work. First cruise ship sets sail from Port of Baltimore since Key Bridge collapse: ‘It’s a good day’

Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas is preparing for the first cruise out of Baltimore since the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. (Jerry Jackson/Staff)

The festive occasion marked the first cruise ship to arrive and depart the Port of Baltimore since the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26.

Less than a week prior, the terminal was the headquarters for the Key Bridge Response Unified Command to coordinate recovery operations, Daniels said. They began condensing their workspace down last weekend, started packing up Monday night after the Dali was refloated that morning and were out by Tuesday afternoon.

Maryland Port Administration Executive Director Jonathan Daniels speaks Saturday at the Cruise Maryland Terminal ahead of the first cruise departing from the port. (Annie Jennemann/Staff)

“While there is still work that needs to be done to be able to complete the salvage operation, this is a wonderful sign that the next milestone is pointing to the fact that business is truly returning to the port,” Daniels said.

Just after 10 a.m., the sound of steel drums echoed in the terminal as it began to fill with passengers eager to board Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas cruise ship for a five-night trip to Bermuda.

Tom Sitzler said he and his group had planned the trip since August to celebrate his partner’s 60th birthday. They live in Washington, D.C., but had a very specific reason to sail out of the Port of Baltimore.

“The whole purpose of the cruise though was to actually cruise out of Baltimore out past Annapolis, because Allen grew up there, the birthday boy, and he wants to see Annapolis from the bay,” Sitzler said.

“I’ve always wanted to cruise down the bay and see all the spots where I grew up,” said Allen Steven, the birthday boy.

Cruises that were already underway or were scheduled in the past two months have been rerouted to the Norfolk Cruise Terminal . Steven said if their trip had been moved to leave from Norfolk, they would have rebooked.

A group of five friends from Harford County also were heading on a cruise to celebrate, donning matching pink hats that said “Friends on the Loose 2024 Friends Trip.”

“We are celebrating a milestone birthday,” said Kathy Schlehr. “We have all attained the age of 70 or beyond.”

“Not yet!” someone chimed in.

The group said they were ecstatic when they found out about a week and a half ago they would be sailing out of the Port of Baltimore. The departure location was one of the reasons they went on the cruise.

The return of cruises benefits the tourism industry in Baltimore and the rest of the state, Daniels said.

More than 440,000 passengers went through the Cruise Maryland Terminal in 2023, he said, and they may also stay in hotels, eat at restaurants and even come back to enjoy the city afterward.

“Many of them are experiencing what Baltimore has to offer for the very first time,” Daniels said.

The 915-foot long vessel with a 25-foot draft got underway after 4 p.m. and used the 400-foot-wide, 50-foot-deep channel that opened Tuesday in the Patapsco River. In addition to a pilot, it was accompanied by two tugboats.

Even though the Unified Command vacated the cruise terminal, operations are still ongoing, just back in their own spaces, said David O’Connell, the Coast Guard’s captain of the port. They coordinate daily on ongoing operations, including salvage work in the main and outside channels as well as coordinating with the Army Corps of Engineers on vessel traffic in the temporary channels.

Saturday, the Army Corps announced a delayed goal of June 8-10 to restore full access to the federal channel. Officials had previously said this would be achieved by the end of May.

“It was great all being together and coordinating operations, but it’s great to be here and see this place in a different light,” O’Connell said. “You see it lively with people that are going on vacation, going through security, the ship is out back. It’s a good day.”

May 28 (UPI) -- A passenger died Sunday morning after jumping from the world's largest cruise ship after the liner pulled out of its Florida port for a trip to Honduras, the Coast Guard said.

The man, who remains unidentified, was a passenger on the Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas. The ship was setting out to go on a weeklong cruise when the incident happened.

"Guests sailing on the brand-new ship were enjoying a day at sea when the man went overboard," Royal Caribbean said in a statement .

"According to online reports, Icon of the Seas was sailing to its first port of call, Roatan (Honduras), when the man went overboard. The ship was reportedly sailing north of Cuba when the man plunged into the Gulf of Mexico, around 300 miles from Miami."

The travel was paused for about 2 hours until rescue crews found the man who went overboard.

The Icon of the Seas carries a maximum of 7,600 passengers and houses a crew of 2,350.

"Our care team is actively providing support and assistance to the guest's loved ones during this difficult time," Royal Caribbean told the website CruiseHive . "For the privacy of the guest and their family, we have no additional details to share."
