The Reading, PA to NYC bus has two stops in Reading - the Fairground Square Mall and downtown Reading. The Fairground Mall stop is located at 2910 N 5th Street Hwy, Reading, PA 19605, in the parking lot between Boscovs and Wells Fargo. This stop is easily accessible by car or with the BARTA buses that serve the city of Reading and its surrounding area. Taking the bus from Reading, PA to NYC with OurBus is an easy choice. New York City is full of sights, sounds, and experiences for everyone to enjoy while visiting.

Even if you have family who already live there, NY is a great city to act like a tourist. Two of these places that should be on everyone’s checklist are the Statue of Liberty and the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration. Lady Liberty is counted as one of the most iconic historical sites in America because of the ideals that it represents. The Ellis Island Immigration Museum is a visualization of the statue of liberty quote that is often mentioned, The New Colossus. It shows the process of early immigration to America with its various exhibits exploring immigrant lives at that time.

Both of these places can be visited by taking the ferry to Ellis Island and are worth the visit if you can make time while in New York. The Statue of Liberty tickets can be bought in addition to the Ellis Island Museum of Immigration through the National Parks Service website.

The Morgan Library and Museum is another public attraction worth visiting in New York City. The Library and Museum began as a private collection owned by Pierpont Morgan in 1890. Morgan began gathering a collection of notable manuscripts, early printed books, and old master’s prints and drawings. After Morgan’s death in 1913, his son JP Morgan Jr, decided that the library had become significant to remain as a private organization. He fulfilled his father’s dream of making the library public and making the collection available to everyone, which is regarded as one of the most memorable cultural gifts in American history. In 2006 the Library and Museum’s largest expansion was completed, adding 75,000 square feet to the campus. The project included additional exhibition space, a new performance hall, a new cafe and restaurant, a gift shop, a reading room for visitors, additional collection storage, and an inviting entrance on Madison Ave.

Washington Square Park in NYC is one of New York City’s favorite places to hang out for residents, NYU students, and visitors alike. Located in Greenwich Village, Washington Square is one of the city’s most used green spaces. While the park is on the relatively small side, covering a mere 10 acres, it boasts a colorful history that is intertwined with the development of NYC. For two centuries Washington Square Park has been a place for people to enjoy themselves while they relax, celebrate, play, and listen in under the iconic Washington Arch.

Ratings and Reviews

5.1K Ratings

I think this app is amazing. It’s functionality is perfect. They really have thought of everything. In fact it’s probably the best app ever designed in the context of what it’s needed for. I can’t sing it’s praises enough. I guess I’m a person that likes to keep things simple; I like it when things do exactly what it says on the tin, and this app does exactly that. They really have thought of everything. So I really am a happy customer. I’m not really a tech savvy person but I know enough to know that whom ever designed it really deserves to be praised and congratulated. I’m also the sort of person who is a bit lazy when it comes to writing reviews, but I’m so impressed with Reading Buses app that I feel motivated enough to give sincere praise to those who designed it. So from one happy customer to the designer I send a heartfelt message of gratitude and praise.

Super convenient

This app is great. You can track live bus times, which in my experience are highly accurate. There are also detailed timetables and functionality to plan any journey, which is very useful when connections are required. Mobile tickets also work really well. They’re very reliable, easy to purchase with Apple Pay and are clearly explained. Exactly how a transport app should be!

Why is there a new one?

1. Why did they need a new app? Old one worked fine if you ask me, just release an update?!? 2. Tried to sign into my existing account, couldn’t reset my password (why I would remember a password I’ve never had to put in I don’t know), pretty sure most people don’t. Luckily only had one day left on my existing ticket otherwise would have been livid having to switch between two apps completely pointlessly. 3. Went to add my card details and for no reason the app decided there’s something wrong although having checked back three times with nothing wrong with the input. Apple Pay worked fine? 4. Following from the last point, apply pay is a nice introduction. 5. Again, why is there a new one? 6. I do like the inclusion of the timetable viewer, used to have to go online to the we site to check, good move. 7. Service updates, great, but I don’t really care about how annual open day at the depot. Face painting? Where’s my bus?!? Also, clogged with retweets, couldn’t care less about “Susans” reply in regards to the number 6 being late, just keep me up to date with the buses, please and thank you. 8. Not sure you need the “Things to do” can’t see it being used that much.

Reading Borough Council

Consultation on proposals to speed up bus journeys in Reading

  • Consultation launched on six proposed new bus lanes
  • Council’s £26m investment aims to make bus services even faster and more reliable
  • Residents can have their say at community drop-in sessions and online

Proposals to speed up bus journeys in Reading by introducing more dedicated bus lanes around the town are now out for public consultation.

The plans for six new bus lanes are part of the Council’s £26 million bus investment which aims to attract new passengers to even faster, more reliable and better integrated public transport in the town.

Residents were first invited to comment on the proposed new bus lanes during an informal consultation in May and June this year. The Council has taken on board feedback and is now progressing with a formal consultation on the plans.

The proposed new bus lanes are:

  • A329 Oxford Road - outbound bus lane between Zinzan Street and George Street
  • A329 Oxford Road - outbound bus lane between Pangbourne Street and Norcot Junction
  • A4 Bath Road - outbound bus lane from Circuit Lane to Granville Road
  • A327 Southampton Street - inbound bus lane from Pell Street to The Oracle roundabout
  • A4 London Road - inbound bus lane between Sidmouth Street and London Street
  • A4 London Road - inbound bus lane between Liverpool Road and Cemetery Junction

The Council’s Bus Services Improvement Plan (BSIP) is an important part of the overall Reading Transport Strategy which aims to reduce congestion, tackle poor air quality and create a healthier town for residents and visitors.

Residents can comment on the proposed bus lanes, and other elements of the Council’s transport strategy, at a series of drop-in sessions being held around the borough.

Comments about the bus lane proposals can also be made on the Council’s consultation webpage at: https://consult.reading.gov.uk/dens/bus-service-improvement-plan-statutory-consultatio/ .

Other recent improvements delivered from the BSIP includes the launch of Tap on Tap Off technology on buses, with a special offer of a £3 fare cap, and the introduction of the ‘Reading All-Bus’ ticket which allows passengers to use Reading Buses, Thames Valley Buses, Arriva and Thames Travel services with the same ticket in the Greater Reading area.

Future proposed improvements include extensions to bus services in south Reading, developing park and ride services, better bus information and further phases of the South Reading MRT scheme on the A33.

Cllr John Ennis, Lead Councillor for Climate Strategy and Transport, said:

“Reading already has an extensive and well-used bus network which provides vital access to opportunities such as education, training, employment and essential services, such as healthcare, as well as for leisure. “However, bus services can suffer from delays due to traffic congestion, particularly at peak times. The creation of bus priority measures on key routes aims to make travelling by bus quicker and more reliable and therefore a more attractive option for getting around town. “More people choosing to travel by bus will result in reduced carbon emissions, better air quality and improved health and wellbeing – tying in with our vision of a net zero carbon Reading by 2030. “We recognise that limited road space in Reading means these plans will have a potential impact on traffic flows and will require careful traffic modelling and design which is why we are keen to hear the views of as many people as possible during this consultation.”

The drop-in sessions where people can give their views on the proposed bus lanes and Reading Transport Strategy are happening as follows:

  • 14 Nov: Battle Library, Oxford Road, 1-7pm
  • 15 Nov: Reading Town Hall, Blagrave Street, 1-6pm
  • 16 Nov: Caversham Library, Church Street, 1-7pm
  • 21 Nov: Whitley Library, Northumberland Avenue, 1-7pm
  • 23 Nov: Palmer Park Library, St Bartholomew’s Road, 1-4pm

Anyone unable to attend can comment on the proposed bus lanes at: https://consult.reading.gov.uk/dens/bus-service-improvement-plan-statutory-consultatio/ .

The deadline for comments is 7 December 2023.

Blade is launching a luxury bus service between NYC and the Hamptons that costs from $195 one-way

  • Blade is launching a new luxury bus service between NYC and the Hamptons.
  • Prices start at $195 for a single trip.
  • Blade says the bus journey will have the same level of service as a private flight.

Helicopter chartering company Blade is launching a new luxury bus service between New York City and the Hamptons to bridge the gap between cheap bus journeys and its pricey helicopter flights.

Part of the appeal of its helicopter service is its nearly 40-minute journey time, which costs around $1,050.

But while the company's luxury bus still has to obey traffic rules, it aims to offer guests a more premium experience to distract them from the longer journey time.

It will be like an in-flight service than a traditional bus. Passengers will be able to press a call button to have staff bring them complimentary refreshments, including espresso martinis and Sweetgreen salads, as well as hot towels and cashmere blankets, The New York Times reported.

"This level of service is commensurate to what you would see in private aviation," Roisin Branch, Blade's chief marketing officer, told the outlet.

It comes at a price, though: the cheapest one-way seats start at $195 for the double-row seat and go up to $275 for a single-row seat, Bloomberg reported.

The 19-seat buses are a partnership between Blade and The Jet , a luxury coach company. The Jet also runs a service between New York City and Washington, DC which promises a similarly high level of service as the latest collaboration — including comfortable seats, extra legroom, and high-quality WiFi.

Blade aims to capture the market of people who don't want to charter a helicopter but are happy to pay more than the mainstream bus fare. The popular Hampton Jitney bus costs around $40 when booked ahead of time.

The new luxury bus service promises fewer stops and only picks up New Yorkers going to the Hamptons in Hudson Yards — one of the city's most expensive neighborhoods .

In 2022, Blade had to bump up the price of its helicopter trips to the East Hamptons after new airport regulations limited the company to one trip a day, Blade CEO Rob Wiesenthal previously told BI. The regulations were made in response to thousands of complaints from local residents over the noise pollution from helicopters.

The company — whose early investors included former Google CEO Eric Schmidt , Warner Brothers CEO David Zaslav , and IAC chairman Barry Diller — has staved off competition in the field. It reported $225 million in revenue in 2023; over 50% of that was earned from the medical side of its business, which air transports human organs for transplant.

In Botswana, 44 victims of an Easter bus crash in South Africa are laid to rest

At least 44 people who died in a horrific bus crash during Easter weekend in South Africa were laid to rest in Botswana on Saturday

MOLEPOLOLE, Botswana -- At least 44 people who died in a horrific bus crash during Easter weekend in South Africa were laid to rest in neighboring Botswana on Saturday.

About 5,000 mourners clad in black gathered in the Botswana village of Molepolole to pay their last respects nearly a month after the bus crash that claimed the lives of everybody on board except one 8-year-old child.

The bus driver, Ogaufi Noonyane, was buried separately in the village of Thamaga, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) away.

The victims were travelling to an Easter pilgrimage of the Zion Christian Church, one of the biggest churches in southern Africa, when their bus plunged about 50 meters (yards) from a bridge near Mokopane village in South Africa's northern province of Limpopo.

The accident was a tragic reminder of how deadly South Africa’s roads become during the Easter period, when millions crisscross the country during the long holiday weekend.

The mass funeral followed the repatriation of the victims' remains to their home country of Botswana.

“We stand here with devastated hearts,” said Limpopo provincial minister of health Phophi Ramathuba, who was among the South African dignitaries who attended the funeral.

Atlang Siako, the sole survivor, was transported back home to Botswana after receiving medical attention in South Africa.

Last month, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and his Botswana counterpart Mokgweetsi Masisi visited the scene of the crash, where they laid wreaths and paid their respects to the deceased.

At least 30 arrests at Portland State University as scene remains active, police say

From CNN’s Paradise Afshar

Police officers scuffle with protesters trying to block vehicles taking detained students, who had been occupying the Portland State University Library building on May 2.

At least 30 people were arrested Thursday at Portland State University, where law enforcement was working to clear a library occupied by protesters , according to authorities.

Arrests were made in a park and at the library, where some people broke back into the building after police left, the Portland Police Bureau told CNN

PPB said the situation remained “active” as of about 8 p.m. local time.

“The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) is actively collaborating with Portland State University (PSU) to address the illegal activities at the university’s Millar Library," police said.

"After a group of protesters departed from a peaceful First Amendment gathering and unlawfully entered the campus building on Monday, the PPB has been working in partnership with city leaders, other municipal bureaus, the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office, and Portland State University to ensure a safe resolution.”

Police said they were monitoring the library and several groups that have “splintered off into small marches."

Analysis: Biden cannot afford a boiling summer of protest

From CNN's Stephen Collinson

Joe Biden delivers remarks about student protests over the war in Gaza, from the Roosevelt Room of the White House, on May 2, in Washington.

President Joe Biden  can ill afford a long, hot summer of protest that comes to a boil in time for the Democratic National Convention in August and then bleeds into the final weeks of an already venomous clash with  Donald Trump .

After days of  college campus demonstrations  — triggered by outrage at the civilian carnage from Israel’s war in Gaza — the president’s reticence to throw himself into the politics of a perilous situation finally became unsustainable, resulting in  his first on-camera comments on Thursday.

In a political sense, Biden’s speech was an act of fence sitting.

He needs to avoid further alienating young, progressive voters who are furious about his handling of the Gaza war and could doom his reelection hopes if they don’t show up in November. But he must also ensure that more middle-of-the-road voters aren’t convinced by Trump’s claims the country is on fire and spinning out of control.

Any time a sitting president looks like he’s observing rather than controlling inflammatory events, he’s taking a huge political risk. This is especially the case when a political opponent, in this case Trump, is lambasting him as weak and not up to the job.

Inside the makeshift newsroom that covered Columbia's historic crackdown

Over the past week, student journalists have been working around the clock from a makeshift newsroom inside Columbia University.

Due to the school's strict lockdown, they were the only media allowed on campus on April 30 as police massed outside .

Palestinian journalist Samaa Khullar was one of them.

Here’s what we know about the arrests at campus protests in New York City on Tuesday night

From CNN’s Shimon Prokupecz, Mark Morales and Celina Tebor

Private security and NYPD police officers stand guard at the gates of Columbia University in New York City, on May 2.

Authorities arrested 282 people at Tuesday’s pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University and The City College of New York, according to the New York Police Department.

Of the 112 people arrested at Columbia, 32 (or 29%) were not affiliated with the university, according to an NYPD official. At The City College of New York, 102 (or 60%) of the 170 people arrested were not affiliated with the college.

At Columbia, dozens of protesters entered the university’s Hamilton Hall on Tuesday and barricaded themselves inside before the university asked for the NYPD’s assistance.

These individuals could be charged with burglary in the third degree, criminal mischief and trespassing, NYPD Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry said. Protesters in the encampments outside could be charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct, he said.

But on Thursday, a spokesperson for the Manhattan District Attorney's Office said that 46 people arrested inside Hamilton Hall have so far only been charged with one count of trespassing.

Seventy-four people were arraigned Wednesday night and Thursday in connection to the Tuesday events at both schools, the Manhattan DA said. At least six people were arrested on burglary charges related to the protests, according to another NYPD official.

Read more about some of the individuals who were arrested.

CNN’s Gloria Pazmino, John Miller and Elizabeth Joseph contributed to this report.

University of Pennsylvania asks for more police resources

From CNN's Danny Freeman

Eight days after a pro-Palestinian encampment was set up in the center of the University of Pennsylvania, the Ivy League school has written a letter to the Philadelphia Mayor’s Office asking for more police resources, a school spokesperson told CNN on Thursday.

“Protest activity began to escalate overnight and has steadily continued, with large crowds in and around College Green today,” the university said. “We have reached out to the City of Philadelphia to ensure we have the necessary resources to keep our community safe.”

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker’s office has requested more information from the university, which administrators are working to provide, the spokesperson said.

The university declined to provide a copy of the letter and CNN has sought comment from the mayor's office.

The Philadelphia Police Department has an agreement with the University of Pennsylvania Police Department “to ensure effective cooperation in situations requiring a police presence,” according to Philadelphia Police spokesperson Sgt. Eric Gripp.

Gripp said the department does not publicly share strategies related to ongoing situations.

The last 24 hours at the university have been tense. The university  said  a pro-Palestinian rally at the encampment late Wednesday night “escalated at multiple times” and resulted in “defacement of Penn property, an unauthorized drone, and threatening rhetoric and chants.”

On Thursday, CNN witnessed a minor confrontation between campus police and protesters when protesters jumped barriers and began chanting on and around a statue of Benjamin Franklin on the College Green. The incident did not result in any arrests but the police presence was heightened.

Masked men, some displaying pro-Israel messages, attacked UCLA protest encampment for hours, video shows

From CNN's Sharif Paget

Several dozen men dressed in black with white masks repeatedly attacked UCLA's pro-Palestinian protest encampment late Tuesday with crude weapons, including poles and incendiaries, according to video provided to CNN by William Gude, who routinely films and shares videos of police conduct in Los Angeles.

Gude told CNN he arrived at the encampment area before chaos broke out around 9:15 p.m. local time Tuesday, and says he filmed hours worth of footage, showing what led up to the incident and what followed.

He described the attackers as pro-Israel based on remarks they made in the video. His footage also shows at least two people with Israeli flags and another wearing a hoodie that reads, "Free our hostages."

In a video shared with CNN, which captured what Gude says is the first 24 minutes of the incident, individuals dressed in black attempt to force their way into the encampment, as protesters inside used mace to defend themselves.

At times, individuals from each camp engaged in furtive, one-on-one skirmishes in the area between the two groups, though Gude described what he saw as "a sustained attack for three-and-a-half, almost four hours, by one side against the other."

Multiple videos posted online show the attackers punching, kicking and hitting the pro-Palestinian protesters with sticks. Some videos posted on social media show officers at the scene but not engaging with the crowd.

Gude told CNN that about an hour into the attack, the UCLA Police Department arrived on scene. Later, the California Highway Patrol arrived, followed by the Los Angeles Police Department. None of the departments moved in to de-escalate the situation, Gude said, until about three hours later.

The LAPD referred CNN to UCLA police. CNN has reached out to all three departments and the university regarding the incident.

NYPD officer fired gun in Columbia University's Hamilton Hall this week, district attorney's office says

From CNN’s Gloria Pazmino and Rob Frehse

An officer with the New York Police Department fired their gun in Hamilton Hall during the police response at Columbia University’s campus Tuesday night, a spokesperson for the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office told CNN.

According to DA spokesperson Doug Cohen, the office is conducting a review of the incident, as it is part of the DA's policy to do so. Cohen said that no students and only police officers were immediately nearby the gunfire incident and that no one was injured.

An NYPD investigation determined the officer accidentally fired his gun while using the attached flashlight to search the first floor of Hamilton Hall, according to a statement from the police department.

"The (Emergency Service Unit) officer has a firearm that is equipped with a flashlight, and he was illuminating the area to find the best way to navigate through the barricaded area. The officer accidentally discharged his firearm causing a single round to be discharged," the NYPD statement read.

The round hit a frame on a wall and no injuries were reported, police said, noting body camera footage of the incident has been given to the DA's office

The NYPD will hold a briefing on the incident at 11:30 a.m. ET Friday morning.

Second gentleman spoke with Jewish students and Hillel leaders from universities across US, official says

From CNN's Sam Fossum

Second gentleman Doug Emhoff spoke with Jewish students from Columbia University and Barnard College as well as Hillel leaders from Emory and the University of Texas at Austin on Thursday to hear their stories and experiences with antisemitism on college campuses, according to a White House official.

Emhoff, according to the official, listened to the students and leaders and reiterated his commitment to fighting hate speech and countering antisemitism.

Other response from the White House : President Joe Biden attempted to draw a line between peaceful protests and violent demonstrations in remarks earlier on Thursday. It was the first time the president spoke extensively on the protests that are sprouting up on college campuses across the country.

Still, Biden said his support for Israel remains unwavering amid the protests. Many of the protesters have expressed anger at the president’s policies toward Israel.

Acie Holland III.

US teen averts tragedy by taking wheel after school bus driver falls ill

Eighth-grader Acie Holland from Wisconsin hailed as hero for quick thinking after he noticed driver had become unresponsive

An eighth-grade student recently averted a tragedy when he brought a careening school bus carrying him and his fellow students to a stop after its driver fell ill from a medical emergency, according to officials who are praising the boy’s actions.

Acie Holland III was taking a bus ride home when he realized the woman driving had become unresponsive, his principal, Anna Young, wrote in a letter to the campus community. The bus veered into the oncoming traffic lane, prompting Acie to rush up to the driver, move her foot off the gas pedal and apply the brake.

The eighth-grader, comparable in age to year nine in the UK, then “securely parked the bus” before it crashed, Young said in a missive that detailed the close call.

The letter – which went viral on parts of the internet dedicated to heartwarming news – recounted how Acie then called 911 for emergency help, checked that the younger students onboard the bus were physically OK and told them to contact their parents.

Furthermore, while waiting for first responders to arrive, Acie dialed his grandmother, a nurse, to see if there was anything else he should do, according to the principal’s account. The woman regained consciousness and called her dispatchers, who sent out a safety team and a replacement driver to finish dropping off the children on the bus.

“What easily could have resulted in tragedy was avoided due to the quick thinking of … Acie Holland III,” Young wrote. “The Glen Hills school community could not be any prouder of Acie. The compassion and leadership that we see him exhibit daily was taken to the next level.”

Separately, in an interview with the Milwaukee television station WTMJ , Acie attributed his leaping into action to an instinct to protect others – and himself.

“I was scared, but at the same time I was like, I wanted to just make sure everyone was OK, and that nothing was going to happen while I was there,” Acie – a go-karting enthusiast and skilled wrestler – said to the news outlet.

Acie remarked: “That just comes from being raised around positive people and being surrounded by positive people.”

WTMJ reported that the boy’s fellow Glen Hills students could be heard chanting “Acie Hero” the day after his bus heroics, when the station went to interview him.

Statistics from the US’s National Safety Council show about 111 people are killed annually in school bus-related accidents nationwide. Most of those who die from such mishaps – and the much larger number who are injured – are inside another car, are pedestrians or are bicyclists.

School bus crashes in general are relatively rare. One study determined that there are about 63,000 crashes involving buses of all kinds in the US in a typical year. An estimated 490,000 yellow school buses provide transportation each day in the US, making them a safer option for children than walking or getting a regular car ride, the National Safety Council has also found.
