Best Cruise Vlogs to Binge Watch

Last updated on January 29th, 2024 at 01:50 pm

As cruise lovers, we prefer to be on board in the middle of the sea than being on land, even virtually. But during those times we have to be away from the blue, we have modern-day storytellers that would bring us back right in the midst of the salty air–vloggers. Armed with cameras, microphones, tripods, and laptops, they tell stories that we love to immerse ourselves in.

6 of the Best Cruise Vloggers and their YouTube Channels to Follow

' src=

If you can't be on a cruise ship perhaps the next best thing is watching videos of cruising adventures from great cruise vloggers! You can find an array of content on these cruise-focused YouTube channels, from ship tours, to island escapes, to tips and info. Kind of like this blog…but in video form.

One day we'll get to some great video content too but in the meantime we want to give some love and shoutouts to some amazing, inspiring vloggers in the cruise world, around the globe. They constantly inspire us with their posts and knowledge.

Best cruise vloggers and their YouTube channels with an image of a TV with a cruise ship on the screen.

We asked each cruise vlogger…

We asked all the cruise vloggers the same questions regarding when they started to vlog, what their most watched cruise vlog content is, what they specialize in (if anything in particular) and what they're proudest of in their cruise vlogging career and the cruise YouTube content they've produced.

Table of Contents

Tips for Travellers

Gary Bembridge is one of our all-time favorite cruise vloggers. Partially because he spends a lot of time and energy on videos that talk about what we love and gravitate towards: small format cruises! This includes river cruises , barge cruises , and the like. But we also adore his YouTube account because the tone of his voice and accent are so soothing!!!

Why did you start vlogging and what year?

My first video was posted on YouTube in August 2006, pretty much as YouTube was starting up. I began posting clips of hotel rooms and sites I was staying in or visiting, as I used to travel 3 out of 4 weeks for work around the world for a corporate marketing job. It was mostly to show friends and family (and to remind me of what hotels I liked and did not).

As I got more into cruising for vacation, I started posting that. My channel really took off after I retired from corporate life and started to focus on it and cruising specifically.

What's your most watched content?

Some of the very old clips I posted of Las Vegas thrill rides have millions and millions of views, and people still watch them. They are pretty bad looking back.

Nowadays, my most popular content is cruising tips and advice (as the name of my channel would suggest, as that is what I focus on and guess people expect from me).

In terms of specific videos, overall the most views come from topics that help people make choices around cruising like cabin choice, cruise line overviews and reviews, packing advice, and best cruises to do in different regions.

Do you specialize in any particular type of videos?

All my videos are focused on tips and advice. I see myself as helping make it easy and fun to discover, plan and enjoy cruise vacations.

What else would you like viewers to know?

Vlogging is hard work and takes a lot of time. But if you focus on what your target market wants to know and watch, it is incredibly rewarding to see how much you can entertain, inform and help them. The best part is when people come up to me on a cruise to say hello and thank me for helping them choose and organize that trip – and that they are loving it.

What is your all-time favorite video you've created, or one you're proudest of?

Some of my favorites are not necessarily the biggest in views, but where I feel have covered something a bit unusual that will really help. Like this one focusing on if people should consider doing a barge cruise in Europe :

Check out Gary's helpful complete list of top cruise vloggers , which he updates quarterly.

CruiseTips TV

Sheri Griffiths and her husband, Mr. Cruise Tips, have great content, both in their cruise podcast and cruise vlogs. Sheri is a natural “reporter” and is always up on the latest cruise news. They have content that's far-reaching beyond the Americas areas, including content in Asia .

When did you start vlogging and why?

While CruiseTipsTV started in 2013, we did not start vlogging until 2016. We started to create and share our travel films because we believed bringing the viewer along with us offered a deeper way to share our knowledge and experiences with our audience, outside the studio environment.

What's your most watched content?

Day One cruise Vlogs (everyone loves embarkation day!), tips about specific cruise lines and what NOT to do on a cruise tend to be most popular.

Do you specialize in any particular videos?

CruiseTips TV focuses on adventure and outdoor experiences suitable for families on a variety of cruise lines.

We cruise to see the world and love to visit destinations like Alaska, Europe, Asia, the Caribbean and the Mexican Riviera. We have cruised the most with Princess Cruises, but we also LOVE the MSC Yacht Club, Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, and Holland America.

What else would you like viewers to know about you?

High-quality audio and video are very important to us. Because while it may seem like a subtle difference, viewers appreciate the extra effort. So we invest in proper equipment and spend a considerable amount of time editing.

Cruising with Matt

Matt Mramer has a relatable approach to cruising. You feel like you're watching a friend share his advice when you watch his vlogs. Matt aspires to have his own cruise series one day on TV, and we can't wait to say, “We knew him back when…”

But there's no need to wait until he reaches celebrity status to see his videos; his cruise content is on YouTube right now.

I started vlogging as a personal hobby on a cruise onboard Norwegian Escape in 2017. It was my first ever cruise with my dad and I wanted to make a video to remember it. That was my first real experience with using video to relive or recreate my trip and I fell in love with the creativity of it; I have been video-recording my trips ever since.

My most-watched content is probably my ship tours. I created several ship videos both on my own and during my time working for Cruise.com that have been among my most popular content on YouTube. I'll include a link below for a recent ship tour I put together.

Do you specialize in any particular videos or content?

I wouldn't say that I have one specialty, but I do strive to be engaging and informative. I want my videos to be exciting enough that people stick around to watch them but I also want viewers to be smarter about cruising after they watch. Recently, I have sailed with Norwegian most often so I do have a bit of an NCL vibe to my content but I'm not exclusive to NCL by any means.

I mostly want readers to know about my most recent project and the one that I am most excited and passionate about, which is the namesake of my online identity.  Cruising With Matt  is an idea that I've had for many years that I have worked very hard to bring to fruition on my own.

It is a cruising web series designed to bring viewers along for an immersive cruise experience. It is very similar to several popular travel programs being created today, but I have done everything for the project myself from scripting and shooting to hosting and editing. If there is any of my work that I hope people see, it would be this project.

Here is Episode 1 of Cruising with Matt, a Quarantine Virtual Cruise to Bermuda:

Alanna Zingano

Alanna's energy is contagious in her cruise vlogs. Her point of view and dedication to cruising are great, and we especially love her cruise line trivia videos. She has loads of other content, though, not just about cruising!

I started my channel in 2018 and took it full-time just a year after that. I started vlogging simply because I wanted to better document the places we were traveling to.

For example, in the years prior to starting my YouTube channel, I went on an incredible cruise trip with my lifelong childhood friend; we took a very minimal amount of photos! I look back and think, “Wow, we were having such a good time that we were too busy to take photos. We just snapped the bare minimum.” Now I travel with portable hard drives for all of the photos and videos I'm taking. I've made a complete 180.

The same goes for a trip my husband and I took to Cuba. I would love to go back and watch those vlogs from our trip since we can't go back and experience that destination anymore! And, if I'm being honest, I've always been fascinated about being a ‘YouTuber' and having a channel. It was a goal of mine for a long time but was too scared to start.

Some of my most-watched content is my interview series and cruise vlogs. I love to share tips and tricks throughout my videos and you can see this throughout vlog-style content; I find viewers enjoy this.

My “Living at Sea” series, specifically, has been incredibly popular. I have interviewed a few people who have lived on cruise ships full-time, along with loads of other fascinating crew members in various roles who work aboard the ships.

Do you specialize in any videos?

I love to share content from lots of different cruise lines. This is why I call myself the “TGI Friday's sampler,” meaning there's a little something for everyone in my content. I take a lot of pride in having sailed on nearly all the contemporary cruise lines.

Anything else you want viewers to know?

I try and have as much fun as possible! We make the best out of every travel situation even if it isn't pretty. Like when we were stuck on the side of the road in a broken-down van in Jamaica. (Hey, as long as we made it make to the ship on time, it made for a funny vlog!)

One secret we love to share is we always tick the box to say we are celebrating something on a cruise! It's worth celebrating so many different moments in life and if you try hard enough there is a birthday, anniversary – something – to celebrate while you are onboard, even if it is around the corner.

Check out Alanna's video of 7 Things to know about Perfect Day Coco Cay (Royal Caribbean's Private Island) before you arrive:

Eat Sleep Cruise

Don and Heidi are highly regarded in the cruise blogging and cruise vlogging world. We turn to them as a fellow cruising couple, particularly for their expertise in larger cruise ship lines, though they do have great content about smaller format cruising sprinkled in too.

Why did you start vlogging and what year?

We launched our blog in late 2014, and focused on writing and social media for the first few years as we built EatSleepCruises' presence. Many of our posts focused on in-depth cruise reviews, guides, and cruise tips.

We decided in late 2018 to start creating videos around our most popular post. We had some early success with those initial videos.

Then, in 2019, we started putting out one video a week, focusing on similar topics like cruise ship reviews and guides. In 2020, we had to pivot to more news and topical commentary videos, which did well for the beginning of the year. Now, in 2021 as cruising returns, we are transitioning again to more general and evergreen cruise reviews, ship tours, and tips.

This year it has been difficult finding the right balance for our audience, as there is still a lot of uncertainty around the resumption of cruising in the U.S. With any content we create, we provide our honest, first-person perspective as a couple that loves to travels together.

Some of our most popular cruise vlogs include our Cruise Ship videos for 2020 and 2021, as well as our Guide to Alaska cruises. Our Drink Package and Speciality Dining Package Guides for Royal Caribbean have also done well.  Additionally, our video guides and reviews for Perfect Day CocoCay are among the most watched YouTube cruise vlogs. As over-planners and researchers, we want to provide thorough analyses so viewers can make informed decisions regarding their next trip.

Do you specialize in any particular type of (or particular cruise line) videos?

We mostly do reviews and tips, with some cruise news and updates. This year we are starting our first ever live show on Sunday nights. We are looking forward to adding this additional content to connect with other cruisers and discuss the return of cruising.

We focus mostly on contemporary cruise lines. Royal Caribbean, Celebrity C ruises, and Norwegian Cruise Line are the ones we have sailed the most with in the past. Still, we have reviews for other cruise lines including Carnival, Viking Ocean, and River Cruises , MSC Cruises, and even Windstar Cruises.

Anything else you want readers to know ?

We are always happy to hear from other travelers or answer any questions cruisers have after watching one of our videos or reading a review.  We love cruising and our so grateful to those who follow along with our adventures. It is so rewarding when we get comments or emails letting us know that a video or blog post was helpful. You can find us all over social media @EatSleepCruise.

Cruise with Ben and David

The adventure and love shine through what this traveling couple creates. Their fun-loving energy and spirits radiate in the cruise vlogs they produce and broadcast on YouTube. We love to watch their candor and honest reviews unfold as we watch their cruise videos.

We uploaded our first video in April 2016 but didn't start posting regularly until a year later in 2017.

Our first video was a tour of the cruise ship, Britannia. We couldn't find any good videos of the ship showing what it was like when initially planning our trip. So whilst on board, on a rainy day, we decided to film a tour of the ship on our iPhone. We didn't expect anything from it, just thought it would be useful for other cruisers in the future.

About 6 months later we checked the video again and noticed it had gained over 50,000 views in the first 6 months and had wonderful feedback asking for more. We couldn't believe it! So a year later we decided to post regularly with weekly travel tips, advice, and eventually vlogs.

What's your most-watched content?

Before the pandemic, our most-watched content was our ship tours and tips videos. Obviously, travel and, in particular, cruises, have had a huge hit in the past year. Because of that, our recent most-watched content has been cruise news and updates.

Do you specialize in any particular type of (or particular cruise line) videos?

We don't specialize in any particular cruise line. We've covered all aspects of cruising from the big mainstream companies like Royal Caribbean, to luxury cruises to river cruising. We always try to make our videos informative, fun and show what cruising is really like. The most important thing is also to be honest. We wouldn't want to recommend something that a viewer would not like.

What is the all-time favorite video you've created, or one you're proudest of?

We are most proud of the recent Virgin Voyages video we created. It shows everything we do in one video. A ship tour and a vlog with a little bit of humor thrown in!

Meet the ‘cast’ of the 9-month cruise that’s taking over TikTok

There’s not much drama aboard the Ultimate World Cruise, but TikTok users are obsessed

black cruise vloggers

Joe Martucci was beginning the trip of a lifetime, and he intended to tell his kids all about it.

On Dec. 10, after two years of planning, the recently retired 67-year-old and his wife, Audrey, finally embarked on Royal Caribbean’s Ultimate World Cruise . The itinerary on the nine-month expedition includes 65 countries across every continent. They’d see the snowy shores of Antarctica, climb the ruins of Machu Picchu and feast across Southeast Asia. Between their ports of call, they’d play mini golf, attend lectures and relax at the spa on the 965-foot Serenade of the Seas.

To share it all with the folks at home, Martucci started recording updates for his four adult children, who encouraged him to post the videos online. Almost overnight, a star was born.

Unbeknownst to Martucci, an insatiable interest in his cruise had been growing since his ship left port in Miami. How could anyone stand to be on a cruise for nine months? How could anyone afford to with rates starting at $61,000? Across the internet, people were clamoring for as much information as they could find.

Dozens of TikTok accounts have popped up to document all things Serenade of the Seas. Some are run by a few of the 600-something travelers staying on board for the entire 274-night itinerary. Others are spectators on land. The culmination of their content — with hashtags such as #ultimateworldcruise, #worldcruise and #9monthcruise — has racked up hundreds of millions of views. The effect is comparable to a reality TV show, complete with “cast members,” drama and intrigue.

Unlike a traditional reality show, with meddling producers and forced cliffhangers, content from the nine-month cruise comes from average Joe Martuccis. That’s what makes #CruiseTok so captivating.

“Those of us who haven’t been on a cruise before or don’t even like the idea of it are probably thinking, ‘These people must be crazy,’” said Beth Fletcher, 39, who started a series recapping Ultimate World Cruise news called “Ship Happens” on her TikTok account a few days after it departed. “Like, we want to know more.”

While the internet loves the folksy content Martucci and others share, it’s also thirsty for reality-show infighting.

“Everybody likes to think there is conflict,” Fletcher said. “My first couple of posts, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, if I was traveling in a small cabin with anyone in my family, after a week or so I would want to throw them overboard.’”

Such plot twists have yet to actually emerge. To understand the appeal of TikTok’s favorite cruise, you’ve got to meet the “cast.”

The ‘mom and dad’

@spendingourkidsmoney #royalcaribbean #cruising #explore #WorldCruise #UWC #Serenadeoftheseas #cruise #cruisedad #UltimateWorldCruise #traveltiktok #travel #cruisemum #9monthcruise #cruisemom ♬ original sound - joe

Martucci’s family asked him to post his recaps online for their friends to see. He started a TikTok account with the handle “spendingourkidsmoney,” because he often jokes that the cost of the cruise could have been their inheritance. On Dec. 18, he published his first public check-in. It has now been watched more than 1 million times.

“People tell me, ‘Joe, you have 76,000 followers in three weeks, that’s amazing!’” Martucci said. “And I sit there and go, ‘Well, how many am I supposed to have?’”

The most wholesome account on Serenade of the Seas, the Martuccis are a fantastic antidote to the increasingly chaotic nature of many viral videos . No real editing, no second takes, just your “cruise mum and dad” checking in.

“If I mess up, we just let it run,” Martucci said. “I have a little speech dyslexia, especially when it comes to pronouncing words, … and Audrey’s always correcting me, but we just leave that in.”

To feel like you have parents on the Ultimate World Cruise, this is your follow.

The bucket-lister

Angie Linderman: @angielinderman

@angielinderman Ultimate World Cruise Q&A or really FAQ since i dont know how to do a Q&A on here. Help! I tried to andwer as many as I could that I know a lot of people have, but let me kniw what else you want to know about what its like on @Royal Caribbean’s Ultiamte World Cruise. #RoyalCaribbean #crusing #explore #solotravler #worldCruise #UltimateWorldCruise #UWC #SerenadeOfTheSeas #cruise #travel #solofemaletraveler #cruiseship #cruisetok ♬ original sound - Angie

Passenger Angie Linderman became a breakout star thanks to an early Q&A sharing how she ended up on the ship.

After both her parents died of cancer, Linderman discovered that she also had an elevated risk for breast and ovarian cancer. She had a preventive double mastectomy and plans to have both of her ovaries removed in the near future. “To me there is no thought of retirement,” she shared in a TikTok, adding: “Doing all of the things I can do now is kind of the motto.”

Linderman spent her inheritance to book the Ultimate World Cruise with her brother’s family, and is continuing to work remotely along the way.

“She will be inspiring lots of people who receive cancer diagnoses, and cancer survivors, to go out and just live your life as if every day could be a last,” Fletcher said.

The swingers (or, not?)

Adita: @aditaml2759

@aditaml2759 We’re not swingers, but we do love our Pineapples 🍍 #ultimateworldcruise2023 #ultimateworldcruise #royalcaribbeanultimateworldcruise #pineapples ♬ original sound - Adita

Adita (last name unknown) has been drumming up fan interest with her sassy , slightly wacky videos that wink at the potential of her and her husband being swingers. The main culprit for the rumor: her obsession with pineapples. When shown upside down, the fruit is known to be a signal in the swinger community that you’re game. Many of her posts wink at the theory, although Adita has (perhaps unconvincingly ) denied the claim.

“She says that they aren’t and that she just likes pineapple,” Fletcher said. “But that’s a heck of a lot of pineapple.”

Adita also loves to clean and share tidbits of ship life , such as how she stays organized on board.

For a behind-the-scenes look at working life on the cruise, there’s the @singing.sailor Daniele Salvatore Arbisi. Originally from Essex in the United Kingdom, Arbisi comes to the ship as a performer and has amassed a following for his crew cabin tour s , thorough travelogues from port days and helpful Q&As, such as when he tapped the ship’s captain to find out the best side of the ship for whale watching.

“He’s very, very talented,” Fletcher said. “His content is fantastic. … He’s got a real good likability, and he’s very funny.”

The solo traveler

Anthony McWilliams: @anthonyantoine1021

@anthonyantoine1021 Good Morning ☀️ #ultimateworldcruise I’m joining the #christderedeemer #christtheredeemer excursion with my UWC Family. @Royal Caribbean #royalcaribbean don’t let me down! #anthonyantoine #worldcruise2023 #worldcruisetiktok #riodejaneiro #brazil🇧🇷 ♬ original sound - Anthony Antoine

Anthony McWilliams was working in public health at Emory University at a job he loved when tragedy struck. “I lost my husband to cancer in 2018,” McWilliams, who goes by Anthony Antoine on social media, told The Washington Post. “From diagnosis to his passing was literally eight months and one day.”

His late husband left him with a request: to travel the world. “He said traveling would be my salvation,” McWilliams said. So he retired and hit the road that year.

Now McWilliams is one of the most beloved passengers on the ship — both to fellow cruisers and online fans. After a mix-up with Brazilian cruise regulations , he had to fend for himself on land for a week until he was allowed to return. “Everybody was cheering for me to come back on,” he said.

He mostly posts joyous port recaps and musings, such as when he said he’d gained 10 pounds in five days on the ship. He gets messages constantly that his travels as a solo Black traveler is inspiring.

“That’s my number one travel rule : to not wait on the others. If you’re waiting on the others, you’ll end up going nowhere.”

Could you spend nine months sharing a room with your sister? That’s the social experiment Shannon Marie and Brandee Lake are carrying out in real time for fans. So far “it’s working well,” Shannon Marie told The Post.

“We travel together a lot, so we know each other’s hotel style, like, ‘Okay, you take long showers,’” Shannon Marie said.

When she’s not spending time with her parents, who are also on board, Brandee keeps in touch with her audience through “ sea day chats .” She made headlines in the first weeks of the cruise after sharing a post about her experience being regularly confused for a staff member, as she and her sister are among the few guests of color on board. “She was like, ‘Oh my God. Is this going to be the case for the next nine months?’” Fletcher said. “That seems to have settled down now, but obviously that leaves a bit of a bad taste in your mouth.”

Shannon Marie is more inclined to share street art from their on-land excursions. Both sisters answer tons of the public’s questions and dance their way around the ship . If you can’t get enough of their videos, you can also listen to their podcast , “Brannon Files.”

Traveling with their parents, Brooklyn and Madison Schwetje take their roles as the eyes and ears on the ship seriously, posting tons of content for their growing audience. They share vlogs of unglamorous sea days, featuring bad weather and laundry duties , as well as the highlights, such as what it’s really like to visit a World Wonder .

One of their most popular posts was an extensive tour of the ship Madison took in the wee hours of the night, giving us an eerie and fascinating look at the massive ship almost completely empty.

“They know how to create a post that’s engaging,” Fletcher said. “They’re good at highlighting things that people want to see.”

“We love Little Rat Brain,” Martucci said.

Little Rat Brain, who’s traveling with her mother, shares expertly edited, highly silly updates of life on board, such as experiencing the “Drake Shake” (the sort of turbulence that comes with crossing the Drake Passage) and itinerary changes .

A seasoned social media user, Amike Oosthuizen posts highly satisfying day-in-the-life videos that bring you into her world. Since the South African boarded the cruise with her parents and her husband, she has taken us along for sea-day gym sessions , what it’s like to dine on board and how she learned to do gel manicures ahead of the cruise so she could save money.

Her mother, Renske Lammerding , has actual reality-TV experience as a cast member on “The Real Housewives of Pretoria” But Oosthuizen told The Post that people gravitate most to her everyday experiences.

She knows people are waiting for drama to erupt, but unfortunately (for them, not for her), “all of the people I’ve met on the ship are just so nice, and they’re all here with their loved ones for a vacation or to travel the world,” she said. “I just don’t think that expectation will become a reality, to be honest with you.”

More cruise news

Living at sea: Travelers on a 9-month world cruise are going viral on social media. For some travelers, not even nine months was enough time on a ship; they sold cars, moved out of their homes and prepared to set sail for three years . That plan fell apart, but a 3.5-year version is waiting in the wings.

Passengers beware: It’s not all buffets and dance contests. Crime data reported by cruise lines show that the number of sex crimes has increased compared to previous years. And though man-overboard cases are rare, they are usually deadly .

The more you know: If you’re cruise-curious, here are six tips from a newcomer. Remember that in most cases, extra fees and add-ons will increase the seemingly cheap price of a sailing. And if you happen to get sick , know what to expect on board.

#1. Best Cruise Tips by: Jonathan Souza: Cruise Fever

Cruise Fever was founded by 2 brothers and is a huge resource of cruise tips, cruise reviews and cruise news. In addition to the website, you can follow Cruise Fever on Facebook .

1. On day one of your cruise try to explore as much of the ship as possible .  You will be tempted to just unpack your luggage and hit the pool or buffet, which is totally fine.  But some areas of the ship like the spa and thermal suite are open for tours during this time and you will be able to see all the ship has to offer.  I know some cruisers that didn’t realize certain features of the ship until the last day of a cruise.

2. Try a different dining venue each day , whether it’s for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.  This way you will not only know what kind of eateries are available, but you’ll know which one to hit again later in the week.

3. Arrive at the cruise port city a day early , and find a hotel that offers complimentary shuttle service.  There are usually several of these to choose from and it makes the trip slightly more hassle-free when your transfers are already taken care of.  Often these hotels will allow you to leave your car in their parking lot for the duration of the cruise as well, sometimes for a nominal fee.

#2 Money Saving Cruise Tips by : Jonathan Hyek –  Cruise Port Advisor

expert tips Cruise Port Advisor

1. Don’t “buy” the hype!

Let’s face it –  cruise  lines know how to make money! From the time you set foot on a  cruise  ship, the entire experience is designed to help you part with more of your hard-earned money. Purchasing extra drinks, spa packages, low quality “luxury” watches and jewelry could end up costing you hundreds of dollars over the course of a week. Avoid the hype and allure of purchasing stuff you don’t need. Rarely is something sold on a  cruise  ship that you can’t get somewhere else for less money. Set your budget before you get on the ship and avoid spending on those incidentals. A little self-control could save you hundreds of dollars!

2. Explore on your own

Choose your destinations wisely so that you can explore on your own. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on excursions, many locations are safe enough to explore by yourself. Bermuda, USA, New Zealand, Japan, Europe, Canada as well as the  Cruise  lines private islands are safe and easy to explore on your own. There’s no need to purchase an excursion. Just use common sense as you would in any new city within Canada or the USA. Be careful in many Caribbean destinations though, as crime and theft is a real concern for tourists!

3.Stay “inside”

#3 cruise packing tips by: lucy williams – lucy williams global.

cruise packing tips

I love to follow Lucy’s travels (her photos are gorgeous) and hope you will too: Instagram @lucywilliamsglobal

1.Don’t over pack for a long cruise as on most cruise lines there are laundrettes that you can use yourself for a small charge. There are laundry detergent and fabric softener you can buy in the laundrette or you can bring your own or buy some ashore. Or you can take advantage of the the ship laundry service and have it all done for you.

2. Pack a capsule wardrobe for a long cruise, as you really do not need so much clothing as you think. If you stick to a few colours that coordinate you can make up lots of different outfits. Remember you can wash your clothes onboard and nobody remembers what you wore a few days ago.

3. People always bring too many pairs of shoes with them on a cruise and there is no need. For warm climate all you need are one pair of each; sports shoes, flip flops, ballet pumps, heels. For a cold climate; walking boots, sports shoes, ballet pumps, heels. If you bring neutral colours for ballet pumps and heels they will go with all your outfits.

#4 Cruise-ship Tips by: Annabel Cornall – Go and Cruise

expert blogger cruise tips

Go and Cruise is a place where you can escape the day to day and be inspired to plan your next cruise and travel adventure. You’ll find wonderful cruise and port reviews and guides written by Annabel, as well as guest contributors. I think you’ll enjoy Go and Cruise on Instagram.

Choosing Your Cabin

Deciding on and choosing your cabin is a really exciting part of your cruise planning. Once you have decided upon a type of cabin that you would like; it is really worth putting into internet searches and YouTube the cabin number or type of cabin and ship. Many travelers will kindly upload videos of the cabin, detailing their features and layout, so you can gain a sneak preview.

Specialty  Dining

If you fancy trying the gastronomical delights of a specialty restaurant onboard your cruise ship, think ahead of when you are going to go. Why not start your cruise with a delicious delight; many ships will have great offers for the first night aboard. In addition, you can often book your dining preferences online before you embark, that way being able to plan your dining pleasures.

Port Days in the Spa

On your itinerary, there may be places that you have visited already and you might decide not to go ashore. What can you do with your time? I would suggest enjoying the amazing spa facilities that you find on cruise ships. On port days, spas will give you the best offers they have, often suggesting a package price for a number of treatments – go on treat yourself!

cruise tips life well cruised

I love watching Chris and Bradley’s cruise adventures and how they offer great tips all while keeping it real! In addition to their youtube channel, you can also follow on Instagram

1.Save money and travel more often by booking inside staterooms.

We have experienced over 20 cruises, in balcony rooms, ocean view and even suites. We found that with the endless on board activities and venues on the ships, we were never spending that much time in the room. We now only book interior rooms, that way we can save our money for cruise excursions, on board spending and even future cruises!

2.Casino Benefits

The casino can be your ticket to future deals! We are suckers for the slot machines and enjoy playing on board. We bring a set amount of money to play with and enjoy the casino on sea days. We always make sure to insert our cruise card into the slots or give to the attendants at the tables, as you spend money at the casino we earn points, which can translate to future cruise offers and discounts plus free cash play for a future cruise.

3.Build Loyalty with Cruising with the same Cruise Line

We have sailed with Carnival, Royal Caribbean but mostly with Princess Cruises. We enjoy the laid back, quiet and relaxed atmosphere that Princess offers, as well as their variety of itineraries. We have enough Princess Cruises to enjoy such loyalty perks as free internet access, priority boarding, a Captain’s Cocktail party and some other good perks. Many other cruise lines offer incentives and programs for repeat cruisers.

#6 Cruise Tips/Budget Cruising by : Emma LeTeace – Cruising Isn’t Just for Old People/Emma Cruises

cruise tips from expert bloggers

Cruising Isn’t Just for Old People is a cruise blog where you’ll find fabulous cruise information of all sorts. Emma also a vibrant group of young and young at heart cruisers in her Facebook group .

1.Research the cruise line

My first  tip  for any  cruiser  would be to research the  cruise  line so that you can find the one that suits you best. I’m a firm believer in the idea that there is a  cruise  for everybody but there is no point picking a  cruise  line with strict dress codes if you don’t want to get dressed up. Proper research can ensure you make the most of your time onboard doing things that you want to do.

2.Book an inside cabin

To save money consider booking an inside cabin. I usually  cruise  in inside cabins and although balconies are nice I rarely end up spending much time in my cabin. An inside cabin not only saves you money but also encourages you to get out and explore the ship. One of my favorite things about  cruising  is always being able to find entertainment going on somewhere, whether that’s live music or something more interactive like a game-show.

3.Travel off-season

If you are able to do so consider travelling out of peak season. School holidays are much busier than other times of year and are generally more expensive too. If you are looking for a bargain months like November and January can be great options. A cruises around the Mediterranean or Canary Islands during winter are a particular favourite of mine, the weather is usually still relatively warm (compared to the weather in the UK!) and the prices are dramatically less.

Cruise More Often for Less

You may also want to consider taking this course by Emma from Emma Cruises, on saving money on a cruise. It is full of information to help save money on cruises, and will pay for itself with the first cruise you book.

Here’s the info if you want to check it out:   How to Cruise for Less (course)

#7 First-Time Cruise Tips by: Tanner Callais – Cruzely.com

cruise tips Cruzely

I always suggest that passengers book an excursion in at least one port . Excursions can seem pricey, especially if you’re a frugal cruiser, but they are almost always worth the money and the memories. You’ll definitely remember the adventure you had years later compared to a day of simply sitting on the beach.

As well, if you forget anything from water shoes to cold medicine, wait until the ship gets into port. These items are for sale on the ship, but they are extremely expensive (we’ve seen cold medicine for nearly $18 a bottle). Every port has a small pharmacy and a number of other shops where you can pick up anything you forgot for cheaper.

Finally, don’t forget to bring an outlet adaptor . With all the electronics we carry these days, most cruise ships only have one or two outlets. An adaptor (make sure its not a surge protector and that its approved by the cruise line) that provides more plugs can be worth its weight in gold

# 8 Cruise Tips/Family Cruising by: Alyson – My Virtual Vacations

cruise tips expert bloggers

  • Arrive to the port early

Unless you live a short drive away from your departure destination, consider arriving the day before. On the day of embarkation, you must be on board early and the check-in process can be lengthy. If flying to your cruise, there can be flight delays and you don’t want to stress about missing the ship. Arrive a day before and start enjoying the departure city right away.

2. Book your next cruise while onboard

Sometimes it’s hard to plan ahead but it’s not permanent. If your dates or plans change, you can easily cancel or move to a different date without penalty. But it’s all about the perks! You’ll typically get more free perks when booking on board (think drink packages, WiFi, or onboard credit) and often reduced deposits.

3. Bring your picky eater!

A cruise can be the best type of vacation for picky eaters. There are numerous choices and varieties of food on board. The buffets often have signage pointing to gluten-free or nut-free selections. Also, notify the cruise line ahead of time and the main dining-room will accommodate specific food preferences and allergies.

# 9 Cruise Advice and Tips by: Ilana Schattauer – Life Well Cruised

cruise tips by Life Well Cruised

1.Book an excursion: If its your first time in a port, book an excursion with the cruise line or research on-line ahead of time. Whatever you do, don’t wing it! Most cruise ports require you to at least take a cab to the beach – and the port area will feel really “touristy” at best. The good stuff is out there, but you need to leave the port area and go and find it!

2.Get extra on board credits: On board credits (OBC) are extra money placed into your cruise account that you can use while cruising. This is a great way to “save” money by using it to book shore excursions, buy drinks, photos and even gifts at the shops. So, how do you get them?

  • Book your cruise when the cruiseline has this type of promotion
  • Book with a travel agent who may add additional OBC’s
  • Book your next cruise onboard (you’ll be rewarded with OBC’s)
  • Purchase cruise line shares (check the conditions, but this can be very advantageous)

3. Cruise complaints: If something isn’t right, don’t wait until you’re back home to complain about it. Cruise lines want you to have a great experience, so if you have an issue, bring it up politely with guest services and allow them the opportunity to get things resolved. It will help you avoid days of potential frustration and leave you with only good cruise memories.

4. Cruise Packing Tips

Here are some cruise packing tips , to help you get ready for your cruise.

3) Don’t get stuck in the rut and sail with one company only

It may gain you loyalty points on that brand but go experience the world our there! Different  cruise  lines have different things to offer – you could do the same itinerary but have a totally different  cruise  experience. Sister brands may recognize your loyalty status (Royal Caribbean & Celebrity do) and MSC will status match all major  cruise , airline and hotel loyalty program levels. Not every  cruise  line will suit everyone, but there are several that you might enjoy.

#11 Family Cruising Tips by: Claire – First Initial Sea

cruise tips from cruise bloggers

1.Do your research and find a ship that is right for your family

Most ships offer a pool and kids clubs at the very least. However, if you have two sea days or possibly more in a row, you might just need a little more than this to keep your children entertained. Cruise Lines such as Royal Caribbean, MSC Cruises and Carnival offer an amazing array of fun features and almost endless entertainment for your children. Research opening hours and age ranges for the children’s clubs in your research as these tend to vary significantly with each cruise line.

2.Pack wisely

Whether you’re heading out to the Mediterranean, Norwegian Fjords or the Caribbean, sea nights can see temperatures drop and the breeze pick up. If like us, you like to walk off your 3 course MDR (main dining room) meal and perhaps like to partake in a little top deck shuffle board or catch a movie under the stars. Your  children will thank you for packing a couple of cardigans or their favorite fleece.

Remember,  embarkation day is in fact day 1 of your cruise which you have paid your heard earned money on, enjoy this day and make the most out of it. Pack the swimmers in your handbag/travel bag. Sun cream and goggles too!

3.Cruise with extended family

Now this tip comes with a warning. I appreciate that not all of us are either lucky enough to have other family members around or who share a love for cruising, furthermore not all of us get along with extended family members. Thankfully and gratefully, we do.

Grandparents are often keen to stay on board when we dock in a destination that they have previously enjoyed, thus resulting in them wishing to enjoy the ships facilities with their Grandchildren who can sometimes be reluctant to walk around exploring historic buildings and cultures for the day. Therefore they choose to spend the day together on the ship making those magical memories that last a life time together.

Consequently, this enables my husband and I to immerse ourselves fully in to experiencing various ports. Everyone’s a winner!

#12 Luxury Cruising tips by: Richard and Helen – Visit with Us

Luxury Cruise Tips

If you’re interested in luxury cruising (and why not?), then I encourage you to check out their videos on your tube. These are genuinely some of the most engaging (and informative) vlogs I’ve seen. Visit with us can be found on Facebook and Instagram. You can also join their Facebook Group The Luxury Cruise Society .

1. All-inclusive benefits: The main thing we love about luxury cruising is the all-inclusivity of your cruise experience. For example, not having to produce your cruise card every time you go to the bar. However, not all of the luxury cruise lines are totally all-inclusive. While most have gratuities, drinks, specialty dining and WiFi included, some charge extra for these. A few even include shore excursions so it’s always best to read the small print.

2.Mainstream cruise “luxury” options: Luxury cruise lines tend to have smaller ships than most sailing the high seas these days. However, if you prefer the facilities and entertainment offered on larger family style shipst, don’ rule out luxury cruising. Many ships now offer a ‘ship within a ship’ experience for their suite passengers, which allows them to experience luxury on a larger ship, such as MSC’s Yacht Club and NCL’s Haven.

3. Luxury Cruise “deals”: Lastly, don’t exclude luxury cruising thinking it’s too costly. Many cruiselines offer ‘guarantee’ fares (unassigned cabins) which are less costly. If you aren’t bothered about choosing a specific room, this can be a very attractive offer.

#13 Cruise and Destination Tips by: Ryazan – Everything Zany

cruise tips from cruise bloggers

1.Be time wise

Time is gold. This is true, especially on cruising or within the maritime industry. Visiting a new port or city can be really fun and it’s easy to lose track of time. If you do, this can cause a major disruption to the trip. If you haven’t booked a cruise excursion without a guaranteed return to ship, you might risk the possibility of being left behind and having to make your own arrangements to get onboard the ship at the next port.

2.Research on your destinations

Researching your port of calls can be handy, especially if you only have a very limited time in each port. If you are planning to DIY your excursions, make sure you have handy information ready. Other than typical guide books, joining various online travel communities would be useful.

3.Take the stairs

Burn those calories! One of the best parts of cruising is tucking in to the tasty food onboard. Since buffets are available all the time, it is a good option to skip that lift and use the stairs. You get free exercise too.

#14 Family cruising/Cruise booking advice by: Alex – On Travel Mode

cruise tips experts on travel mode

1. Book early – In my experience, you should book a cruise vacation as early as possible. Booking early means you usually get the best price. Cruise lines also like to sweeten the deal by offering freebies called Perks. Perks can come in the form of onboard credits, unlimited beverage packages, and Wi-Fi plans. Who doesn’t love freebies, right? Don’t forget to monitor for any price changes. If the fares go up, you can smile knowing that you got in at the right time. If they go down, the fares can be adjusted and you get to do a happy dance. If you’re looking to save money while on a family cruise I suggest taking advantage of free activities on board.

2.Daily Planner – Check out the daily flyer provided by the cruise line. There are so many things happening each day. In fact, so many that your family will never run out of things to do. We always take advantage of the many free activities onboard. We have watched demo cooking classes, learned how to dance salsa, sung Karaoke, and so much more thanks to our “Freestyle Daily” flyer. It is possible to have a lot of fun without having to pay for any onboard activities.

Real cool tipps from professional cruisers… very good, thank you for that list. There are some things I’ve never thought about before, but now I really do. Cruising doesn’t have to be expensive…

i’m so glad you found this list helpful! It’s true that there are ways that cruising can be so affordable – we cruised in an inside cabin for years when my kids were little (and often they were heavily discounted), and this way we could cruise more often.

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment!

One of the best tips I ever heard is to make sure everything works as soon as you can and report problems right away. I told my mom that TIP before her first Alaska cruise and indeed her hot water did not work. They moved her from a standard cabin to the Presidential Suite.

Hi Charles,

I think you’re 100% right! I never thought of checking everything right away, but you make a good point. And wow! A very lucky upgrade for your Mom. I’m not sure if that happens much these days, but nevertheless it’s a great tip!

Thanks for taking the time to comment,

This is a great list and one that has many of the things I do when on a cruise. I am going on the MSC Belissima next month and can’t wait.

I’m so glad you liked it Edward. What a beautiful ship you’ll be on!

I have just returned from a cruise to St. Petersburg and one tip I would like to offer is research a plan B for a port destination. We arrived late at one port because of a medical emergency the night before and all shore excursions were cancelled. Luckily I had spotted a museum that looked interesting. Also Google to see if there is any thing interesting happening the day you are in port.

Thanks a great point. Although unlikely, it is good to have researched a port at least at a minimum to find an alternative plan. Very true that there could be a festival, free museum day and other interesting things to do and see.

I’m glad for you that you were able to see St. Petersburg and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment!

Oh, it’s great to know that most long cruises have laundry stations for you. I’m actually hoping to take European river cruise with my wife next year. It would be wonderful to see the European countryside sail by us.

Some ships have self service laundry, while others don’t. It’s always best to check with the cruise line or travel agent for specific information. That river cruise sounds phenomenal!

amazing collection for us, blog users.

Glad you enjoyed the list of tips from bloggers and vloggers! Thanks for taking the time to comment John!

I like Lucy William’s tips. Her advice will probably work for me. Because I always take a long time to prepare my belongings carefully before every trip.

That’s awesome! So glad Lucy’s tips were helpful! She has a wealth of knowledge about packing well for long cruises!

' src=

There’s so many great tips you’ve collected here, Ilana. It’s so easy to get stuck in a rut when you’ve cruised a lot, so it’s good to learn from fellow cruises what their tips are. I’d agree that it’s good to explore other cruise lines – it can also give you a new perspective of what you like and help to identify or confirm what’s most important to you when you cruise.

I love that Steph! It’s true that confirming what you enjoy most and want out of your cruise vacation is important.

This really encourages all of us to be part of the cruise ship journey. Thank you for sharing.

Great to hear!

40+ black travel bloggers to follow

09/11/2021 by Roobens Leave a Comment

Before reading the article, be aware that I wrote a 200+ pages book about traveling as a black person.  Click here for more info .

Are there any black travel bloggers out there? Hell yes! Traveling while black brings numerous challenges to overcome but that doesn’t mean that consequently, black people don’t travel. Just in the US, African Americans contributed more than $109 billion to the tourism industry in 2019! And many of them run a blog. 30 Black Top Travel Bloggers To Inspire Your Wanderlust

Sharing is caring!

Are you looking for Black travel bloggers or creators to follow on Instagram? Look no further! I’ve compiled a list of 30 amazing Black bloggers who are inspiring others to travel the world and share their experiences.

From family friendly trips to solo adventures, these Black travel creators are creating impactful content for all of us to enjoy.

So, if you’re ready to be inspired, check out my list of the must-follow Black bloggers on Instagram.

I created this list of the best black travel bloggers to follow because diversity, equity, and inclusion in the travel industry was trending for most of 2021 when brands pretended like they cared about inclusivity but it’s back to business as usual.

I have not seen many brands put their money where their mouth is when it comes to hiring and collaborating with Black travel bloggers.

We know African American travelers contributed more than $109 Billion to United States tourism in 2019!  Can your brand afford to miss out on the revenue Black travelers bring to the table?

The Black Travel Alliance partnered with MMGY to develop a series of market research studies to better identify the needs, behaviors, and sentiments of underrepresented travel communities.

The first installment of these studies, powered by MMGY Travel Intelligence , is titled The Black Traveler: Insights, Opportunities & Priorities and focuses on Black leisure travelers and meeting professionals.

The Black Traveler study was published in November 2020.

The links in this post may be affiliate links.  That means that if you click them and make a purchase, this site makes a commission.  It will have no impact on the price you pay or the experience of your purchase.

Black women alone spend $55 billion dollars according to Neilsen data but brands still have a hard time using their trade fund dollars to market to people of color.

Last year, according to Nielson less than 3% of overall advertising showcased African-Americans. Black people are not waiting until they turn 65 to start traveling.

We are traveling now and there are some amazing travel bloggers highlighting their epic vacations via Instagram, social media, and their blogs.

Black travel bloggers have to work twice as hard and make sure every damn I is dotted and T is crossed because we will never be on the mainstream list of “Best Travel Blogs” that often leave out multicultural bloggers.

The Importance of Following Black Travel Bloggers on Instagram

In a world where representation matters, it is essential to follow Black travel bloggers on Instagram. These creators share their unique experiences, cultures, and stories while exploring the world.

By following them, you can expand your knowledge, perspective, and appreciation for diversity. Black travel bloggers offer a fresh and exciting outlook on the world and inspire you to visit new destinations and try new things.

By sharing their experiences, they shed light on hidden gems that may otherwise be overlooked. Therefore, following Black travel bloggers on Instagram is not only an act of solidarity but also an enriching experience.

Not including Black Travel Bloggers on these coveted “best of” lists leads brands and the media to believe that Black people don’t travel, write informative articles, or draw high traffic to their travel blogs which is further from the truth.

Black women travel more than any other group and we travel in packs while spending those coins.

If you need a little travel inspiration from bloggers that look like you keep reading as I will provide you with the best of the best when it comes to Black travel bloggers and content creators!

Why the 9-month Ultimate World Cruise is social media's latest obsession

It only took two weeks into a nine-month global cruise for it to go viral on TikTok.

The Ultimate World Cruise, a 274-night voyage aboard the Serenade of the Seas by Royal Caribbean Cruises, departed from Miami on Dec. 10. The cruise, which promises passengers travel to more than 60 countries and almost a dozen world wonders during its course, was intended to give those aboard the opportunity to spend the months “bonding with like-minded explorers over global discoveries across all seven continents,” according to Royal Caribbean’s website .

Shortly after its departure, many aboard the Serenade of the Seas began documenting their time on the ship. Some showed off cabins in the style of the MTV show “Cribs” while others opted to give tours of the entire ship. One couple made videos onboard joking about how they spent their children’s inheritances on the price of the cruise.

As people began to share their experiences on board, those on dry land were already reveling in the reality show that they believed would soon unfold on the Serenade of the Seas. On TikTok, the #UltimateWorldCruise tag has more than 54.8 million views as users obsess over what they speculate will turn into seaside drama.

One person began tracking all the content creators on board so that others could easily follow along. Another offered advice to those on the ship on how to stay safe and healthy.

“I’m so invested in this 9 month world cruise happening cause I know it’s gonna be some MESS,” one person posted on X.

“There’s going to be mutiny,” said one TikTok user. “There’s going to be blood. Someone is going overboard. I want to watch. Bravo, where are you? I need eyes,” the person said. “We’re witnessing Fyre Festival, Alabama Rush and no one is rushing there.”

Rumors also quickly began to circulate on TikTok, with some people alleging that the ship wasn’t at capacity and how some travelers with better membership status were being treated differently than the others on board.

A spokesperson for Royal Caribbean Cruises did not immediately respond to NBC News’ request for comment regarding the rumors, as well as the virality of the cruise itself.

Although no major drama has unfolded aboard the ship, those following along on social media appear eager for reality TV-style turmoil to unfold.

Jessica Maddox, an assistant professor of digital media at the University of Alabama where Bama Rush takes place each year, said she knows first-hand how morally gray it can be to wish drama onto the lives of real people.

“For the world cruise TikTok, I think it’s OK to think of the content we consume on TikTok as reality television,” she said. “But I think it’s important to remember these are real people, and that even reality television is scripted and coerced and is forced drama.”

Here’s everything we know.

Where is the cruise going and how much did it cost?

There are four legs of the cruise. The first traverses North America and South America over 67 nights and includes stops in Brazil, the Caribbean and Antarctica.

The next leg of the cruise heads to the Pacific, stopping at 87 destinations in 87 nights. These stops include New Zealand, Japan, Australia, China and India, among other countries.

The penultimate leg of the trip heads to the Mediterranean and Middle East destinations over the course of another 67 days. The stops include Egypt, Greece, Italy and Turkey.

Finally, the last leg sees passengers touring Europe, with stops in Sweden, Denmark, and Norway over the final 63 nights.

Some said they cannot fathom what being on the cruise, traveling to that many locations while eating and drinking the days away, would do to a person physically.

“Imagine eating unlimited cruise food for nine months, like what that’s going to do to your body. I just worry people aren’t going to pace themselves and it’s going to be really hard on their bodies. They’re vacationing for nine months. Like, you can’t vacation for nine months! You need to have balance,” one TikToker said in a video about concerns for the passengers aboard the ship.

But travelers were not required to book the entire nine-month duration of the cruise. Instead, they were able to purchase either a nine- to 28-night duration aboard the ship or one of the four segments of the trip, rather than booking the entire trip, Royal Caribbean's website states.

Those who chose the full trip, prices started at $53,999, according to the Royal Caribbean website.

What’s really happening onboard?

The passengers on the Serenade of the Seas so far seem to be enjoying the cruise, according to several who spoke to " TODAY ."

Sisters Brandee and Shannon Lake, who are Black, said they’re sharing a cabin and said that quarantining  together during the pandemic prepared them to live in close quarters on the ship for nine months.

Brandee Lake, 46, said the staff and passengers have been “so friendly, so kind, so much energy,” quashing some of the online chatter that there’s tension among different travelers.

She appeared to have one issue, according to a TikTok that she posted, saying she has been repeatedly asked if she is a member of the ship’s staff rather than a traveler.

“If I get asked if I work on this ship one more time,” she said in the video. “After I said I was not working, then I was asked if I was independently wealthy — like, basically, how did you afford this?

But she told "TODAY" that after she posted her TikTok, the cruise’s hotel manager made it a point to greet her during dinner. She and Shannon Lake, 42, said that nothing has happened yet on the ship that would be worthy of reality TV.

Brandee Lake did not immediately respond to a request for comment made by NBC News.

Other passengers told "TODAY" they were on the cruise to celebrate wedding anniversaries. One traveler, Angie Linderman, said she took the trip because she is at a higher risk for developing cancer in her lifetime and wanted to check off bucket list items while she is healthy.

“Retirement age is not a guarantee. And so (there is) an emphasis on just doing all of the things I can do now while I’m healthy, while I’m able, instead of putting them off in hopes that I can do them later, when in reality that may not happen,” she said.

So is there drama and why is social media obsessed?

Well, not really.

Some have homed in on the fact that “pinnacle members,” Royal Caribbean’s highest tier of membership, have access to different excursions and have allegedly had town hall meetings. This doesn’t appear to be out of the norm for a cruise, Maddox said.

But there have been some suggestions that people of different backgrounds might be experiencing different treatment on the ship.

One person claimed that American and non-American guests were being treated differently on board the ship.

Beyond that, those documenting their time on the ship have yet to report any reality TV-worthy drama for TikTok to consume. The posts from those on land have mostly consisted of documenting who is aboard the ship, creating “bingo cards” for events on the ship, and cheering on drama.

“I don’t love the idea of people dubbing themselves ‘gossip director’ or ‘content curator,’ which I’ve seen to describe, like, talking about viral trends and events on the ship,” Maddox said. “These are real people with real lives on the other side of the screen.”

Like Maddox, many likened the cruise to the viral BamaRushTok — the time of year when sororities recruit new members at The University of Alabama, which is often shared by potential recruits on TikTok. Maddox, who has taught some of the women who became stars of the Bama Rush phenomenon, said she’s seen first-hand how real people being treated like figures on reality TV can be damaging and stressful.

“There’s definitely this fascination that’s baked into TikTok that we see exacerbated in things like Bama Rush and the world cruise of ‘I could never live this life, so I’m now going to live vicariously through these people,’” Maddox said.

Maddox said it makes sense that people are trying to use the language of reality TV to understand what they see on TikTok, where “storytime” posts and drama are often posted episodically. Still, she urged viewers to remember that where reality TV is often scripted and planned behind the scenes, those on the Ultimate World Cruise are real people living their real lives.

“It’s an ethical issue to hope and wish drama upon people who are just trying to do this fun thing with their lives and decided to share it with us,” Maddox said. “So I hope everybody, including the people who are enjoying watching this content, take a pause and remember that ethical social media use applies to them too.”

Awkward moment Tom Cruise nearly gets into Rishi Sunak’s car in London

Tom Cruise suffered a pretty awkward moment after attempting to get into the Prime Minister’s car.

The Hollywood legend , 61, was in London last week and could be seen waving to fans as he strode out into the car park at London Heliport in Battersea.

However, the Top Gun actor was then snapped and filmed attempting to open the door of a black Audi before quickly realising it was not the car he was meant to be in.

Although most of us have faced similar situations when approaching Ubers or forgetting which vehicle is ours in car parks, Tom had been trying to enter the car of one of the most powerful figures in the country.

Currently in the UK filming the latest instalment of the Mission Impossible film series, Tom then walked awkwardly to the right car while one of his entourage ushered him in.

Later in the day, Sunak was spotted leaving the heliport and getting into the same vehicle that Cruise had previously darted towards.

Tom Cruise getting into Rishi Sunak's car

Although the politician didn’t have any trouble finding out which car he was meant to enter, it was made slightly easier by the fact an aide held the door open for him.

The mix-up took place on a day Sunak arrived back in the capital after an election campaign trip to Cornwall and Devon.

The Prime Minister had taken the sleeper train to the South West, arriving in Penzance in the morning.

He then returned to London by helicopter later that evening.

Meanwhile, last month Tom was spotted at Battersea after flying himself there in his own helicopter.

Tom Cruise

The actor has held a pilot’s licence since 1994 and owns several planes.

On that day he flew from Longcross film studios in Surrey, where the next Mission Impossible is being shot.

Last month his Top Gun: Maverick co-star Glen Powell revealed Tom pulled a heart-stopping prank on him.

Glen, who plays Lt. Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin in the film, revealed that Tom once pretended to lose control of a helicopter they were flying in, plummeting over the city of London.

‘Tom goes, “Oh no, oh no,” and he starts dropping the helicopter over London,’ he told GQ.

He then recalled thinking: ‘Am I about to be the unnamed guy that dies with Tom in a smoking hole in the middle of London?’

Anya Taylor-Joy continues to show off her fashion sense in beautiful western European locales. She arrived at the 2025 Dior Cruise fashion show on June 3 wearing a gray blazer over a black fitted outfit, including sheer tights with cut outs and black patent leather boots.

Taylor-Joy has been in the public eye lately as she’s been promoting her most recent film, “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.” The actress, who grew up in Buenos Aires and London, has proven herself to be a world traveler as of late. This spring season, she has been spotted in Cannes , Tribeca , Monaco , and now Scotland for the new Dior show. On each occasion she’s shown off her distinctive style, which blends classic elements with the occasional edgy flair.

At the Dior event, Taylor-Joy stood in front of a floral backdrop at Drummond Castle in Crieff wearing her black-and-gray ensemble. Her gray tweed blazer was draped over her short black dress and tights, which featured semi-circle cutouts along the upper thighs. The timeless academic look was fitting for the event inspired by the culture of Scotland.

Taylor-Joy’s shoes, meanwhile, made a dramatic statement at the photo call. The patent leather boots shined brightly, reaching just beneath her knee. The boots include buckles all the way up the shaft as well as a lighter-toned heel that contrasted the dark leather. The shoes added an edge to the neutral-toned outfit, aligning with her character Furiosa, who is known to be a tough heroine.

Creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri helms the Dior cruise show. While this year brought the show to Scotland, last year’s was based on vibrant Mexico City. The much-anticipated annual event, which takes place at a different locale every year, attracts a host of A-listers from the fashion world and Hollywood.

Taylor-Joy has supported Dior before, attending a fashion show of theirs in 2023 wearing a different pair of black boots .

Black World War II medic given posthumous award for D-Day services

Army medic Waverly Woodson Jr. was posthumously awarded for his services on D-Day.

(CNN) – A Black medic credited with treating many wounded soldiers on D-Day has been posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross.

It’s the second highest military decoration that can be awarded to a member of the Army.

Army medic Cpl. Waverly Woodson Jr. was part of the 320th Barrage Balloon Battalion.

The battalion was the all-Black unit which had the task to deploy balloons to protect troops along the beaches of Normandy from German fighter planes during the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944.

Army medic Waverly Woodson Jr. was posthumously awarded for his services on D-Day.

That day was the first of the Normandy landings that laid the foundations for the Allied defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II.

Woodson spent 30 hours treating fellow soldiers as the assault took place.

He became seriously injured when his boat hit a mine.

Woodson died in 2005 at the age of 83.

Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen, other lawmakers and the medic’s family have pushed for years for Woodson’s actions to be recognized, saying it took so long because Woodson was Black.

Woodson’s family and Van Hollen said they will continue calling for him to be awarded the Medal of Honor.

I grew up in Zimbabwe, but I have been based in London since 1987. My travel life spans more than three decades and that includes more than 95 cruises. In 2005, I launched Tips for Travellers to make it easy and fun for people to discover, plan and enjoy incredible cruise vacations. And the rest, as they say, is history. Jennifer Lawrence Brings Wild Flair in Black Pumps and Leopard-Print Coat to Dior 2025 Cruise Show

J ennifer Lawrence touched down in Scotland for the 2025 Dior Cruise show on June 3, arriving at the coveted event at Drummond Castle in an animal-print jacket paired with pointed black pumps.

Lawrence fittingly wore Dior to the show, which unveiled the fashion line inspired by the culture of Scotland. She wore wide-leg navy blue jeans with a white shirt imprinted with an insect and CD insignia. Over this casual ensemble, she wore a long leopard print jacket tied together with a black Christian Dior belt.

To accessorize the look, the "No Hard Feelings" actress held a small quilted black purse and donned a pair of oversized sunglasses.

Lawrence's patent leather heels featured a classic design with a sharp pointed toe. While the back of her shoes were obscured by her pants, the part of the heels that did peek through picked up her purse, sunglasses and the black accents of her jacket.

Lawrence is no stranger to a black heel. She recently stepped out at the 2024 GLAAD Awards wearing a black gown and black Maison Ernest heels. She presented the Vito Russo Award to Orville Peck at the event.

Since her breakthrough starring role in "The Hunger Games" franchise, Lawrence has been turning heads on red carpets throughout her extensive career - and she has not disappointed in the footwear department .

Also present at the 2025 Dior Cruise show were fellow Hollywood stars including Lily Collins, Anya Taylor-Joy, Shay Mitchell and many more familiar faces.
